twst food culture compilation
Please note: this post does NOT include all food-related lore in TWST (for example, you wonât find a lot of information about individual charactersâ food preferences or personal experiences with food here). This post ONLY talks about the food culture, notable locations, cultural dishes, and unique foods of the Twisted Wonderland world at large (ie countries, specific towns and cities, etc).
I did my best to scour for info, but Iâll update if I find anything new or details I missed the first time around.
General and/or Unspecified Location
Icicle mushrooms are one of Twisted Wonderlandâs three greatest delicacies. They are extremely rare and expensive.
There is a seasoning called âpure azure saltâ, which is said to be rare, even in the Coral Sea.
Twisted Wonderland has a fruit called ruby berries (which taste âlike freshly picked strawberriesâ).
There is frozen mint with a ârefreshing profileâ that grows in icy mountainous areas.
There exists Walrus-brand oyster sauce. Trey uses this to cook hamburger steak for his younger siblings. He says the oyster sauce provides a "nice savory flavor" with considerable depth. Trey also jokes about adding it to chestnut tarts in book 1.
There are mentions of irl Japanese foods such as konjac and takoyaki, but so far no place of origin in Twisted Wonderland has been sited.
Like in the real world, celebrities like Vil and Neige are used to promote products (including food and drink) in commercials, on social media platforms, etc. For example, in book 5, we see Neige advertising Red Apple Soda and Vil using his Magicam account to promote the apple juice made by Epel's family.
There's a popular dish called "pumpkin carriage stew". The insides of a pumpkin are scooped out and the shell is filled with a creamy stew, which made it difficult to carry over to tables. It would sell out every day at the cafe Ruggie used to work at.
Some restaurants call their spaghetti with meatballs "starry night spaghetti", named after the tale of two dogs who shared a spaghetti kiss under a starry sky. It is said that sharing spaghetti with meatballs with someone outside would lead to true love.
Hunting is sport as well as something done for food.
Crowley goes on vacation âto the Southâ and reports to enjoy mango and mango-flavored products from there. He also brings back manga tea as a souvenir.
Briar Valley
General
Cotton candy is a classic snack food sold at Briar Valley food stalls. The way it is prepared resembles spinning threads, which is considered a blessed occupation (as there was a period in Briar Valley's history when no one was able to spin thread, so some clever individual tinkered around and made cotton candy instead).
In the battlefield (~400 years ago, during the human-fae war), soldiers would roast rats and lizards to eat if they didn't have rations or other ingredients.
There is little in the way of modern technology and electricity; typically, one would prepare dishes and/or collect ingredients by hand (such as via fishing) or by using magic.
Magic is used to light fires for cooking. There is little risk for fire accidents since magical fires automatically go out when you go to sleep.
Because Briar Valley is located to the north, it can get very chilly. When the snow melts, it turns into very cold freshwater.
According to Lilia, âberries are a must-have, especially at birthdays partiesâ in Briar Valley. They are famous for its berry juice.
The forest where Silver and Lilia live has strawberries. Silver picks them with his animal companions.
Coral Sea
General
According to Jade, there are no fires in the Coral Sea. Therefore, most of the food consumed is raw.
A month-long land boot camp first established by a mermaid princess that married a human prince teaches merpeople fire safety and how to eat food as part of its curriculum.
It's rare for merfolk to eat anything sweet, as those kinds of foods aren't readily avaliable in the sea.
The Atlantica Memorial Museum has the mermaid princess's "silver hair comb" on display. This, of course, refers to the "dinglehopper"--a common fork. This implies that merpeople (such as the mermaid princess referenced in many stories) fused to be unaware of the eating utensils on land.
Azul's mother owns the "hottest restaurant" in the Coral Sea. It started off as a small place, but has since expanded to have a large staff.
Couples from the Coral Sea frequently request rainbow dessert soup with trident cookies for their weddings. To eat it, you use the trident cookie to stir the sweet sky-blue soup, which then turns the soup into seven colors of the rainbow. This is a dish that is only served for special occasions in the Coral Sea, and it is typically served warm.
Jade says that he was surprised to see that many land dwellers eat their fruit without the peel; this would imply that those from the Coral Sea typically eat their foods with the skin/peel left on, or as-is.
Playful Land Amusement Park
All food and drink are handed out for free.
They serve food in large quantities, such as tuna, entire tart cherry pies (with cinnamon, clove, and crushed nuts in the filling) and a whole peppery roasted chicken. The park encourages consuming in excess.
Other food items being offered include fried tuna fish and sparkling apple juice. The juice comes with an umbrella stuck in the opening to prevent bugs from getting in. You remove it before drinking.
They have ice-cream in many flavors! We see strawberry milk in the related event.
The park had candy and popcorn in âapple coreâ flavor. Supposedly, this is a taste inspired by the story of the Generous Fox giving a Puppet Boy an apple core instead of a whole apple because âthe puppet wished to have a coreâ.
There is a âCandy Roadâ, a street lined with shops that have caramel lollipops, chewy candy, marshmallows, cookies, chocolate crunch, and lots of other sugary treats!
Their chocolate crunch has 12 different charms thrown in.
The third most popular souvenir are pasta snacks in the shape of the Friendly Fox and Gentle Cat. The second most popular is a tin of plain cookies in the shape of the Friendly Fox and cocoa cookies in the shape of the Gentle Cat. Finally, the most popular are apple core flavored candies!
Sage's Island
Night Raven College
Pomefiore holds a welcome party for the freshmen, which includes a fancy dinner. Savanaclaw does not hold a welcome party.
Scarabia regularly holds banquets, typically at Kalim's request.
Heartslabyul holds "unbirthday parties" whenever it is a day that does NOT fall on a Heartslabyul student's birthday. Sweets are mandatory at unbirthday parties.
The dorm members of Scarabia and Heartslabyul pitch in to prepare for banquets and unbirthday parties.
Mr. S's Mystery Shop stocks food items, such as candies (which Floyd often buys), tuna cans, and ingredients for baking (this is where Deuce and Yuu pick up things for the chestnut tart in book 1). Sam also sells food items that he seems to have made himself, like the Mystery Drink (which Octavinelle eventually buys the rights to).
The school cafeteria is said to have delicious breads.
Students can use the school kitchens outside of normal serving hours; Ruggie and Jamil sometimes do this, but they also have their own dormitory kitchens to cook.
Once a month, a famous bakery from out of town serves their goods at NRC. Their stock includes items such as chocolate croissants, egg sandwiches, yakisoba bread and cream bread ("cronuts and bear claws"), roast beef sandwiches, red bean buns ("hot dog buns"), and deluxe minced cutlet sandwiches ("deluxe ham and cheese"/"grilled cheese" in the localization). They sell out fast!
The school library includes recipes books. Some recipes include spicy curry soup, red pepper and tomato soup, and garlic pork habanero soup.
Basic school lunches are free to all students, but they must pay for changes or extra items.
The cafeteria at NRC serves food buffet style; the cafeteria is kept warm with magic from fire fairies which are supplied with dry firewood every day. There is also a rotating daily menu.
Master Chef ("Culinary Crucible") is an elective course at NRC that teaches students how to cook. It is meant to curb the expenses related to eating out and to help the boys maintain balanced diets and learn how to take care of themselves. Judges for this course are randomly selected from the students and staff (prior to this methodology, people would bribe the judges for extra credit).
While taking Master Chef, students help with preparing meals in the cafeteria in exchange for part-time pay.
The instructors for Master Chef are ghosts who were professional chefs at five-star restaurants when they were alive. These same ghosts also serve as cafeterias staff. Crowley says it was difficult but worthwhile to recruit them.
There are various locations on campus where the students go to fetch ingredients for Master Chef. This includes an on-campus farm, ranch, windmill... and even the dormitories themselves!
The woods behind the campus have chestnuts, which the main crew collect for an apology tart to Riddle.
The Botanical Garden has some edible plants growing there. These include strawberries, which the Science Club cultivates.
NRC opens its school gates to the local townspeople for a period leading up to Halloween; during this time, they distribute candy and other sweets (such as Sam's waffles, served with jam made from NRC's apples) to guests. There's also a party on Halloween night where lots of food is served.
Mostro Lounge
Octainvelle has the Mostro Lounge, described by Jade as "a meeting place for gentlemen" where fighting between dorms is prohibited. While dining there, students are expected to abide by Octavinelle's rules. It is run by the manager and founder, Azul, who made a deal with the headmaster to get the rights to open the establishment. NRC gets 10% of the revenue the Mostro Lounge makes.
Jade and Floyd partake in some cooking, but Azul does very little cooking. He tends to investigate the competition and market.
Jade uses the weeds and plants he collects from mountain hikes to brew experimental new teas. Sometimes Azul adds these drinks to the menu.
Floyd likes to experiment with making sauces. These, too, are featured in the lounge.
The lounge offers cakes with coral decorations. You can order one for your special occasions.
The Mostro Lounge is particular about its quality name-brand dishware. Azul believes that this will boost the experience customers have in the lounge.
The Octatrio bought the rights to the Mystery Drink from Sam and raised its price from 600 madol/6 thaumarks to 1500 madol/15 thaumarks.
The Mostro Lounge has a one-drink purchase minimum.
Menu items range from roughly 600 madol to 1500 madol (6 thaumarks to 15 thaumarks).
The menu rotates on a seasonal basis; this helps to cut down on costs since they can focus on cheaper in-season ingredients.
The Mostro Lounge also operates food stalls and/or sells food at many school events, such as the cultural festival in book 5 and the interdorm magical shift/spelldrive tournament in book 2.
It is mostly Octavinelle students who staff the Mostro Lounge, but there are occasions when outside students are brought in as extra help. Ruggie has worked there part-time, as well as Jack, Ace, Deuce, and tons of other students.
Unbirthday Party Rules (related to food)
Rule 25: There must be a tea party on the 5th of every month.
Rule 29: You must not eat the Queen's tarts without her permission.
Rule 153: The only tea you may drink in the evenings is herbal tea.
Rule 186: Do not eat hamburger steak on Tuesdays.
Rule 256: You must not drink lemonade with honey past 8 pm.
Rule 271: You must get up from the table within 15 minutes after eating lunch.
Rule 339: Your post-meal tea must be lemon tea with 2 sugar cubes.
Rule 529: If you eat steak on the night of a full moon, a cat must play the violin afterwards.
Rule 562: Do not bring chestnut tarts to an unbirthday party.
Rule 648: You must brush your teeth 2 times on nights when you eat turkey.
Rule 703: Whoever comes in 2nd place in a croquet match must serve tea to the Queen (dorm leader) the next day.
If the dormouse wakes up at an unbirthday party, you are to paint its nose with jam.
Coffee is forbidden; tea must be served at all occasions except for birthdays.
According to Cater, sweets are mandatory at unbirthday parties.
Dwarves' Mine & Silent Woods
There is an abundance of wildlife in these areas; Jade often goes hiking and foraging, making note of what he finds. He uses the plants to make his own tea blends (which are sometimes added to the Mostro Lounge's menu) and the herbs, plants, and mushrooms to experiment with in cooking.
There are fish to be found at the lake, including massive catfish.
The Foothill Town
There is a port for mainly cargo ships located at the southwest part of town. It's called Crane Port! The east side has a port as well, but that one is moreso for passengers. Crane Port has been getting fewer and fewer people passing through lately (until Port Breeze Fest, in which the NRC boys run food stalls and help to revive business in the area). Group A makes churros, Group B makes waffles, Group C makes salads, Group D makes cotton candy, and Group E makes clam chowder.
A popular restaurant in the Crane Port area serves foods like french fries and burgers. Their signature menu item is a donut made from potatoes. Actually, this restaurant specializes in potato dishes!
There is a chain restaurant on the island that also has locations elsewhere, including in Ace's hometown. He mentions that there are slightly different flavors to the sauces depending on which location you go to. This chain is also described as affordable for students and gives free refills. There is a location of this chain a car ride away from Harveston.
The town also has other eateries that are more geared towards students, seeing as it exists on an island with two notable magic schools to the north and the south. Cater often mentions going into town to take pictures at cafes.
The town has a public market; the Ramshackle Ghosts resell mandrakes there.
There is a famous patisserie there. You have to line up early in the morning before opening time to get your hands on one of their strawberry tarts (or anything, really!).
There is a stall in the marketplace that sells specialty coffee. They also have a tea which Crewel enjoys (though he also brews his own).
Scalding Sands
General
The Scalding Sands seems to borrow heavily from Middle Eastern cultures. For example, some of the Scalding Sandsâ traditional dishes include, but are not limited to: roasted lamb, moussaka, döner kebabs, shawarma, flatbreads, potato and bean spreads, and seafood sautĂ©s.
Tea is a popular beverage; it is had at every meal and break. People can drink up to 10 cups of tea a day!
The Scalding Sands specializes in black tea. For entertaining guests, special tea leaves are used.
In the Scalding Sands, they brew their tea leaves loose and without an infuser. This makes the tea very strong and bitter. To counteract the powerful flavor, people add lots of sugar to their tea and drink it with sweets.
âLuxuriousâ tea is very sweet, since sugar was once very expensive (due to a shortage of it, according to the localization) and considered a luxury.
Due to the hot weather, people often toss herbs into their tea to make it more refreshing to drink.
Coffee is also popular; there are many cafes that serve coffee and tea. The Scalding Sands is known in particular for their spiced coffee, which has a very distinctive flavor. This coffee is brewed without a filter, and some cafes do âcoffee divinationsâ (reading the shapes and patterns of the grounds and the water droplets that remain after drinking to tell the fortunes of customers).
There are a lot of unique spices in their dishes. This is especially true of banquet dishes. However, a variety of dishes are still served at these occasions.
Kalim describes the Scalding Sands as being âbig on stewed stuffâ like curries.
In Kalimâs hometown, people love to gather around the table and talk over a meal.
Halloween in the Scalding Sands is celebrated by feasting on a variety of dishes. The idea is that the food must be abundant so that the ghosts that return to the world of the living for the night may also have their fill.
It used to be difficult for the people of the Scalding Sands to obtain water due to the lack of rainfall, hot climate, and expansive desserts. However, Kalimâs ancestors utilized the countryâs rivers to reach other countries and to trade their textiles, spices, tea leaves, and other local goods with foreign lands. It was particularly impressive at the time, as they were the first traders from the Scalding Sands to sail (back then, accurate nautical maps were not a thing). This maritime pioneering is what would make the Asim family their massive fortune.
The Asims and other merchants heavily invested in technologies and innovations to make the area more sustainable and potable water more accessible.
The waterways of the country eventually developed into canals and communities formed around them as trade hubs. The canals are also used to host ferryboats for locals and tourists to sightsee, boosting the tourism industry. This also made access to water much easier for the residents, and the water helps to cool the temperature.
Silk City
The bazaars in Silk City are where locals do their shopping for various goods and staple foods like vegetables and fish. There are also stalls with gourmet food that cater to tourists.
Camel Bazaar is named after camels, which were used to transport people, goods, and luggage before Silk Cityâs canals and roads came to be. There also used to be an oasis where the camels would rest and drink after long treks; this oasis became a center for commerce and eventually evolved into a marketplace. To this day, the name âCamelâ has stuck, even if people use trucks, ships, and cars more than camels.
There is also Zahab (âGoldâ) Market, which is popular with tourists for shopping (especially for souvenirs!) but also has swindlers and pickpockets mixed in with regular customers.
Many snacks are sold! Thereâs camel milk chocolate, cookies drizzled in syrup, sunflower seeds, pistachios, chickpeas, all kinds of nuts, dried fruits (including dates), jams, jellies, syrups, starfruit, dragonfruit, etc.Â
(Lamb) shawarma is described as meat roasted on a spit and served on baguettes or pita bread. Because grease drips off while it cooks, it is âsurprisingly healthierâ than one expects it to be. Shawarma is also customarily served with vegetables (tomatoes, onions, olives, jalapenos, etc.) and sauces (yogurt, garlic, chili, hummus (a paste of garlic and chickpeas), mayo basil, etc).
There is a vendor that can supply large quantities of sweet and refreshing coconut water; this is because theyâre used to providing for Kalimâs extravagant and excessive tastes. They create a hole in the top and provide straws to poke in and use to drink the water. The coconut flesh inside is also edible.
There are a lot of bread stalls; bread is also another staple food, and it comes in many sizes, shapes, and textures. Small roadside bakeries have wood-fired ovens which allow them to serve bread fresh to customers.
One stand sells baguettes that are taller than many children; these âtower baguettesâ are a famous Fireworks Festival treat. People say that if you eat a big one, youâll never go hungry again! The saying comes from a story of a young man that shared bread with hungry children. Itâs because of that story that baguettes are considered a good luck food that many vendors sell on holidays.
The Camel Bazaar sells an elastic ice-cream (based on a similar irl frozen Turkish confection). It is kneaded on a pole and stretched out; customers are meant to âcatchâ it in their cups and cones. Itâs food performance art! All the stretching makes the texture very unique.
Thereâs a fruit stand that is only open on festival days which sells a Silk Melon sundae; the fruit is hollowed out to host ice-cream (of the same melon flavor!) and toppings which make it very photogenic.
Starfruit is usually put in salads, according to Trey.
The dragonfruit sold is recommended to be eaten with honey. You drizzle it on top of a slice and eat!
Silk Cityâs signature fruit is the Silk Melon. It is called that because of its silky texture and sophisticated sweetness. It canât be found in many other countries. The man of legend that shared his bread with a starving child is said to split a melon with his friend, even though he did not have much money to spare. Itâs because of this tale that people started saying if you share Silk Melon with someone, it would make your friendship or romance last forever. Now the fruit is a festival staple and considered a symbol of good fortune.
In the past, water was only used for irrigation due to its scarcity. Some gave up on farming after years of trying to produce crops and failingâbut others refused to give up and cultivated the land to made it fertile, something which future generations would reap the benefits of.
The fruits and veggies sold Camel Bazaar are freshly picked and grown locally. Jamil says this is possible because the arid climate actually helps with growing crops of high quality. Produce raised with less water concentrates flavor since the final fruit will have a higher sugar content. Because of this, Silk Cityâs produce is prized by chefs all over Twisted Wonderland. Of course, you can get them at an affordable prize in Camel Bazaar!
Shaftlands
General
The Shaftlands are famous for its jeweled pineapples.
The Shaftlands spans a large area of land and has drastically different climates depending on the part of it you're looking at. Therefore, we can deduce that foods and customs surrounding food are very different as well.
City of Flowers/Fleur City
The cityâs food culture seems to be inspired by real world Paris, or at the very least, France.
Bread is a local specialty, particularly very buttery kinds. As you walk down the streets, you can smell bread baking. The City of Flowers has 10x (or more) the variety of bread that Sage's Island offers, and has an abundance of bakeries too.
Bread-making is popular in the City of Flowers. The windmills at the edges of the city grind grains to produce fresh flour. There are also watermills powered by the Soleil River to assist with making flour.
Because wheat is plentiful in this area, some of it is also used for desserts. One such confection is financier, which is made from a combination of wheat flour, almond flour, and butter. It resembles a gold bar, so eating one is said to bring financial prosperity.
Lately, gluten-free desserts have been trendy.
A dessert that does not use wheat flour is macarons. In the City of Flowers, they are yellow and shaped like bells to honor the Bell of Salvation which oversees the community and provides magic that helps rare plants grow in the area. The filling is a ganache with dried bits of grapes and apples.
Grape juice is popular in the City of Flowers, as the fruit is another specialty. You can buy the grapes raw and eat them as is, or ask a vendor to crush it (skin still on!) into juice for you. Some buy the grapes to give as gifts!
The grapes are grown in vineyards right outside of the city, and the farmers are constantly experimenting to improve their breeds. They taste very rich, tangy, and sweet.
The City of Flowers is also known for its many specialty cheese shops. Together, bread and cheese are called the staple foods of the city, and are sometimes eaten together. One specialty cheese shop the boys visit sells baguettes topped with ham and rich melted cheese.
The city considers goats a symbol of good luck, so they are treated with care. There are many community goats (which are just as common as domesticated cats or dogs) allowed to roam freely in the city. It is said that if you treat the community goats with kindness, they will come rescue you in your time of need.
Goat milk is used in some of the specialty cheeses produced by the city. The grapes mentioned earlier are also made into fruit compotes to go with the cheeses.
They served a roast beef at the young mageâs social; this was infused with spices and evenly heated.
Harveston
This village has many dishes that borrow from a mixture of irl Nordic cultures. Thereâs also an emphasis on having hometown pride and the community itself being very close.
Crows often damage the apples Harveston grows. The community comes together to put up nets and make noises to scare them off.
As expected, many of Harveston's dishes feature apples: apple pie, grilled and roasted apples, apple salad, apple pound cakes, etc.
Epel's family has an apple orchard that has been in the family for generations. They grow different kinds of apples throughout the year. Many of his neighbors are older people who also raise produce, and they help each other out when they're short on hands. The community is very tightly knit because of this, and treat each other like extended family.
Harvest season (autumn) is the busiest time of year; once that's over, everyone comes together to have a party. It's a potluck style celebration where everyone brings a homemade dish or homegrown food to share.
Harveston preserves its produce (such as apples and wild greens) by pickling them and serving them in salads. The bright colors are maintained by boiling the produce in a copper pot, which stabilizes the pigments. It's wisdom passed down from generation to generation.
There is also pickled herring, traditionally eaten on bread. Brining preserves the fish while it is still raw and doesn't dry it up. It's ready to eat right out of a jar, no cooking required.
The local stew is not very thick. It tastes sweet because of the added vegetables and savory because of the tender meat in it. There is also a salmon broth sprinkled with herbs which is described as "melty".
Fruits and vegetables can be packed in snow to keep them preserved. This method is called âsnow agingâ and prevents evaporation. In the old days, the villagers would build whole farms out of snow. In modern day, they just shovel the snow into a barn. This creates a natural fridge that will naturally thaw in the summers. Snow aging in this manner makes the produce sweeter and more nutritious.
The next town over is a three-hour bike ride. The roadside has many apple trees you can enjoy during the trip.
You can easily pick apples off the branch and eat them fresh! Farmers can snack on apples while picking.
Harveston is surrounded by tall mountains that are snow-capped all year, the most famous one being Mt. Moln. The greenery around Harveston is due to the spring water irrigation which runs down from Mt. Moln.
Most of Harvestonâs land is used for orchards, and apples are their main produce. They also make many products using those apples like chips, rice crackers, and cookies.
Fall apples are sweeter, while winter ones are more sour. Winter apples are unique to Harveston.
Harveston also grows a lot of garlic.
Harveston farming is done the old fashioned way, as the predominantly older population distrusts chemical fertilizers and biotechnology.
Some villagers like the mayor and Marja (Epelâs grandma) adjust their accent to communicate with people from outside the village. Marja says she switches up when sheâs selling goods in another town, since it can be tricky for non-Harveston locals to understand.
Hand washing before eating is a must! They take the act very seriously in Harveston. Stories say the miners of the past used to get very sick due to poor hygiene, but their health improved drastically once they started washing regularly with soap and water. It was difficult for them to get treatment because the town is so remote and far from hospitals or doctors, so the best thing is stressing prevention. This why the townspeople are sticklers about hand washing now.
To wash the Harveston way, you plunge your hands into ice cold water and make it all foamy with soap. You also scoop the water up and splash your face as well (as the miners from the past would also do this).
You can catch salmon in the nearby river.
Apple Square is the main festival venue; it has many vendor stalls in an area called Kokko (which means âBonfireâ) Market. The Sledathon is the most lucrative time of year for the townsfolk.
Many of their products are made locally by the older folks in town. The goods arenât trendy or very fancy, but theyâre high-quality and made with Harveston pride.
The stalls give apple juice, apple tea (which has fruit pieces floating in it), and apple ginger tea for free. The apple juice is one of Harvestonâs most popular products.
Giant five-meter apple pies are made for the Sledathon. Theyâre considered one of the main attractions, and you can get a slice from them free of charge.
There are other stalls that sell regular apple pie too. Every vendor has their own style, from the apples used to the crust and baking technique.
There are other kinds of fruit pies for sale, but apples are the most popular and âspecialâ ones. The Beautiful Queen had a preference for apple pies, so the townspeople do too.
Harveston apple pies have such an entrancing flavor that the nearest city has stores that stock them. Critics say that Harveston apple pies make anyone drool and that the best way to convince someone to do you a favor is to gift one.
Harveston holds an apple competition to find the reddest apple. This is because the Beautiful Queen prized beautifully red apples. In the past, the townspeople would offer the reddest apple from the seasonâs harvest to the Beautiful Queen. Over time, it evolved into the apple competition.
Kokko Market makes pancake balls from a flour batter and top it with jam. Itâs prepared in a pan and with methods similar to takoyaki, coming out crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
Pancakes also come in a square form. In Harveston, pancakes are baked in the oven instead of on the stove. Some people cook pancakes in the fireplace too; this makes them tender, thick, and pudding-like.
There are many grains used for bread: sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, oats, flax seeds, sesame seeds, rye, wheat...
Barbeque is served for large gatherings and celebrations.
Cooking tends to be done in the fireplace instead of on a stove, especially in the case for stews. It keeps the room warm in winter while the food cooks.
Harveston has a bean and fruit soup. Most other places serve it cold, but those in Harveston sometimes enjoy it warm. Itâs a thick consistency and the fruit in it has been dried.
Farmers drink tea on their breaks between work.
When setting the dining table, people in Harveston leave one extra plate out. This tradition comes from a story about a traveler visiting a familyâs house and being surprised by the messy state of it. The traveler cleaned the house and cooked a nice meal for the family. From this story came the belief that as long as you leave a plate at your table, youâll never want for food or go hungry.
Sandwich cakes are common party centerpieces. They are made with bread and vegetables, topped with shrimp, deviled eggs, olives, apples, and salmon slides arranged in a rose shape. The frosting on it is made from mayonnaise and sour cream, making sandwich cakes more salad than dessert.
They sell cherries and other berries by volume. Also sold are vegetables and juice, freshly squeezed.
Because Harveston is located in a mountainous region, there are rare varieties of mushrooms to be found. These can be served in a traditional mushroom soup, which can be finicky to prepare (so usually only experts make it). Mushrooms are also cooked in butter and served in sandwiches.
Mushrooms, herbs, and flowers are foraged from the nature (both public mountains and private woods). Locals usually donât buy plants that are wild when they can pick it themselves. Instead, theyâre sold to tourists.
Good foraging spots on Moln Mountain are kept secret so people donât overharvest. The mountains are dangerous in winter, so foraging has to be done in spring or summer.
Harveston brines raw fish like salmon in a mixture of salt, sugar, pepper, and fill. In the old days, brined salmon was buried in sand to let it ferment.
Fish is dried to preserve it and to enhance the flavor. Before there were proper roads, it was hard to bring in food for the winter, so Harveston relied on foods preserved in the spring. They last for a long time and have many uses (such as in soup stock or to eat straight up). To this day, preserved meats and vegetables are a local specialty and new methods such as roasting have been developed for preservation.
Sunset Savanna
General
The food here appears to be inspired by African cultures of the real world.
Fruit is more plentiful than grains.
There is floral cacao in the Sunset Savanna. It bears fruit only once every 10 years.
Gummy bugs are popular and a Halloween staple.
The people of the Sunset Savanna value living in harmony with nature and will go out of their way to adapt to the land (due to the high population of beastmen, who have animal ancestors). Because of this, they oppose change that could damage the environment. There are some parts of this arid country that still rely on wells for their drinking water needs. They also hold the Tamashina-Mina festival every year to pray for rain.
Sautéed mutton is a common meal in this country. Leona brags that the Sunset Savanna is top notch when it comes to cooking meats.
The bananas of the Sunset Savanna are starchy and resemble potatoes (similar to plantains). They are steamed and served as a staple food. Theyâre faintly sweet and are actually very light and easy to digest.
Itâs easier to grow fruit instead of wheat and rice in their climate.
Rice hull crepes, another staple, are served with a stew that you pour over it. The stew comes in variants such as a white fish stew simmered in tomato sauce, spinach and potato stew, beef stew, etc. There are also many side dishes you can enjoy with the crepes. The crepes arenât meant to be eaten alone, as they taste too sour solo.
The phrase âthatâs the Circle of Lifeâ is a proverb that has been around for ages. The strong eat the weak, then when the strong die, their bodies become nutrients for the grass which feeds the next generation of prey animals. Life comes âfull circleâ, and the proverb indicates this delicate balance.
The Sunset Savanna is famous for its coffee. It tastes spicy, not bitter, because the custom is to add spices to the drink.
Food prep performances seem to be common for the wealthy; Leona mentions seeing big fish filleted before being served.
Yogurt is considered a âhealthy dairyâ and is typically served for breakfast.
Elephant Graveyard
The Elephant Graveyard, once considered a scary and lawless place (the âshadow landsâ which were not a part of the original kingdom), has become a tourist destinationâsomething akin to a spa.
They are known for selling vanilla cookies shaped like bones.
The hot springs at the Elephant Graveyard have kettles hidden by the steam. The hot water vapor cooks onsen tamago (a traditionally Japanese irl dish) and puddings. It imparts a slightly salty and sulfurous flavor and smell to the foods.
Sunrise City
The Raintree Market is a bazaar that features many foods and drinks.
Many snacks sold in the marketplaces are local specialties, so theyâre popular as souvenirs.
Wild and cultivated hibiscus flowers are boiled with sugar to produce a red juice. There is also a white juice, which is made using wild baobab (which is full of nutrients; people call it a beauty elixir you can drink). A legends says that, long ago, members of the royal family would have their foreheads painted with baobab juice when they were born. Thatâs how the fruit became a local specialty.
In the original tale, the juice for marking foreheads was red. It seems that, over time, the color was changed to white by word of mouth, with the latter description fitting more with the white fruit of the baobab. Because of this change, more and more stalls have been selling a mixture of hibiscus juice and baobab juice.
The baobab fruit is also used to make a particular sour candy. The candy is dyed with red food coloring and is then dusted with sugar and chili powder. Itâs described as having a âmatureâ flavor. Leona has liked this candy since he was a child.
Mangoes are a local specialty! Vendors will happily cut open the fruit for you to enjoy on the spot.
Other notable fruits for sale are tart passionfruit and creamy but smelly jackfruit. The latter is considered the largest fruit in Twisted Wonderland and grows on its treeâs trunks.
The Sunset Villa is a luxurious hotel that hosts VIPs and important guests of the state. They offer a large selection of drinks (fruit juice, black tea, coffeeâŠ) and serve whole slabs of steak in front of you before serving at luxurious barbecues. After dinners, they have dance performances.
There is an enormous sausage thatâs wrapped up in a coil. If unwound, itâs a meter long. Itâs meant to be cut with scissors before eating. The sausageâs herbs make it taste refreshing, and its meat is finely grounded to allow its flavors to come through.
Seafood is fresh and cheap, provided you live by the sea or in a coastal region like Dawn City. In more inland areas, seafood is considered a luxury.
Their seafood tends to be cooked with strong spices.
Ruggieâs yet-to-be-named hometown
Because the residents are poor, their food is usually made from collected scraps (such as pumpkin pie made predominantly from the pulpy parts) or prepared with substitutions and without extra flourishes. For example, Ruggieâs grandma prepares homemade donuts for his birthday but they couldn't afford fancy toppings (until Ruggie started working to bring in extra income).
Itâs implied that there were instances when Ruggie (and presumably others from his hometown) had to eat rotten food or out of trash cans to get by.
Queendom of Roses
General
There is reference to some irl UK foods in this region, such as the jacket potato.
The Queendom of Roses is famous for its rose jelly rolls. Roses are the flower the country is best known for, of course, but they also have lavender, rosemary, sweet violet, foxglove, bluebells, and many berries.
People from this country eat flowers (which are specifically grown for eating). Flowers are also used for dried flower bookmarks? potpourri, etc.
The Queendom has a good selection of breads.
Apparently, the Queendom also has a strong âtea cultureâ.
People in the Queendom of Roses eat a lot of different pastries (pies, tarts, quiches, croissants, scones, etc). Croissant donuts (cronuts) in particular have been pretty trendy lately. Theyâre donuts made with croissant batter, so they come out super flaky. They are sometimes sold with iced tea as a combo.
Potatoes are a staple food.
Jacket potatoes are common at festivals; they are potatoes baked with the skin (ie âjacketâ) still on. The standard topping for them is baked beans, but you can also have tuna mayo corn, bean chili, sour cream, avocado, and other things.
Anyone that grew up in the Queendom of Roses has probably done the âcookie smashâ at least once as a kid. (More info on this under the âClock Townâ section!)
The Queendom is known for lavender, berries, and rosemary.
Riddle and Trey's yet-to-be-named hometown
Trey's family owns a bakery (called "Patisserie Clover" according to the TWST manga). It seems to be a small "mom and pops" shop with no particular notoriety. However, the manga implies that it was the Clover bakery where Riddle saw the strawberry tarts and became entranced by them. This is also where Riddle would later try his first strawberry tart.
In Riddle and Trey's hometown, people enjoy apple bobbing during the Halloween season.
Before interview: Riddle was worried whether they can start on time and was relieved when Vil showed up and Vil was pretty smug about it lmao
There is a farm not too far from where Riddle lives; it is famous for its ice-cream buns. There is also a cafe located on the farm! It opened shortly after Riddle entered NRC and is so popular that itâs spoken about in magazines and tourists go there just to sample their sweets.
Clock Town
The people of Clock Town value time and punctuality due to the town's connection to the White Rabbit, who was always in a hurry. Many of the foods sold at stalls are things that are easy to hold and eat while walking, such as sliced sandwiches.
The Clock Town Folk Museum mentions a girl that appears in the story of the White Rabbit. She ate cookies that made her grow large; the museum recreates this experiment by projecting a large image of guests that eat cookies they have set out.
The Clock Town Folk Museum also runs a bugle-playing contest. The participation prize is a carrot cookie.
Clock Town sells a brand of potato chips with the White Rabbit logo on them.
The town also sells cookies iced to look like a pocket watch. The icing is made from a mixture of sugar and egg whites (âroyal icingâ) which hardens considerably. Youâre meant to crush the cookie with a hammer to make it into smaller pieces, making it easier to eat. Itâs based on the story of the White Rabbit breaking his pocket watch. Others tried to help him fix it by hitting it with a hammer, but it didnât help at all, only damaged it more!
A lot of people enjoy growing plants, gardening, and horticulture, including stuff that can be eaten like herbs.
Sausage rolls are served in pairs to resemble bunny ears; the container they come in resembles the White Rabbit. Theyâre sausages wrapped in a pie crust/puff pastry dough, and come in cheese (with a shortcrust pastry similar to what is used for tarts to help hold its shape) and a spicy sausage (with a puff pastry that makes it flaky) variant for the White Rabbit Festival.
There are large mushrooms that grow in Clock Town; eating one side will turn you large, eating the other side will turn you small. The girl in the story of the White Rabbit has eaten these strange mushrooms before. These mushrooms are said to be enchanted and only work in a particular area; its effects last for ~1 minute after eating.

2018
May 3rd Heppenheim, Germany
Sebastian
The exhaustion was piling up in my body, and I knew that what I was doing was crazy. I was fully aware that facing my past with just two hours of sleep was quite risky, but I couldn't wait to see Y/N again. As soon as Hanna told me she had spoken to her and gave me the green light to visit her, I forced Britta to buy me a plane ticket to Cologne to head home as soon as I finished some Ferrari ads and all that shit I absolutely hated in Maranello. My excitement and nerves were so intense that I didn't even tell anything to my parents or Fabian, who would probably go crazy for not telling them earlier.
I let go of the suitcase reluctantly and, to my misfortune, it fell to the floor with a rather noticeable thud. I sighed and did my best to ignore it, ringing the doorbell and leaning against the wall while holding the bouquet of tulips I had bought for Y/N. I knew it was silly, but I was excited to have this small gesture as a sort of belated birthday gift for her.
"Who is it?"
I was notably surprised when, instead of my motherâs voice, a childâs one chirped the question.
"Itâs Seb," I replied, trying not to make a big deal out of the situation. Maybe it was just the daughter, or even granddaughter, of one of my motherâs friends.
"I donât know any Seb! Who is it?" she asked again, this time with a slightly annoyed tone.
"Iâm Sebastian."
"Sorry, but I only know two Sebastians: one is the crab from The Little Mermaid, and the other one is the man who sometimes appears on TV at Grandmaâs house."
I couldnât help but laugh. Whoever that little girl was, she was the best thing I had come across in a long time.
"Mum also says I canât open the door to strangers, so I canât let you in. Iâm sorry, sir."
"But my parents live here," I replied as calmly as I could. It was clear that the lack of sleep was affecting my patience.
"Are you Mr. Norbertâs secret son?!"
"Emily, let me open the door!"
The door suddenly opened, revealing a somewhat out-of-breath Hanna, as if she had come running to open it and was now trying to catch her breath. Next to her was a girl about five years old, with completely blonde and curly hair that reached roughly to her waist. The little one didnât hesitate to smile and greet me with her right hand, and almost immediately, her eyes widened as she made eye contact with me. When I turned my gaze back to my friend I was quite surprised. Her skin, which was already pale, had turned even paler for no apparent reason. The girl, however, kept looking at me, curious and, in my perception, somewhat pleased.
Had Hanna become a mother and didnât tell me?
Before I could react or say anything, the door slammed shut in my face, not giving me a chance to say anything. My surprise came when, a few seconds later, it opened again, revealing the same scene.
âYouâreâŠâ she started to say, hesitating. She was nervous, and her nerves only made me more anxious. âSeb⊠but notâŠâ
âIs something wrong, Hanna?â
Instead of answering, she remained completely silent. I knew something was wrong as soon as she started to look at the ground instead of looking at me.
âHanna?â
âAunt HannaâŠâ the little girl, still by her side, intervened, trying to get her attention by tugging at her sweater sleeve. âThe man who appears on TV with the red car is talking to you,â I widened my eyes, surprised. Did the girl know me? âMom says that when someone talks to you, you should respond; itâs rude not to.â
âDo you know who I am?â I asked the little girl, crouching to her level.
âOf course I know youâŠ!â
âHey, sweetie, why donât you go play outside for a while?â My friend intervened before the little girl could finish. âSebastian and I need to talk about some things, okay?â
âDid mommy have a surprise for me and thatâs why she brought him?â the girl asked curiously, pointing at me. âMommy said she was going to bring me a surprise when she came back fromâŠâ
âEmily, thatâs enough! Go outside and weâll talk about mom's surprise later. We can even call her if you want, okay?â
Praterâs shout startled the girl, who simply picked up a stuffed panda from the couch and a red car that looked quite similar to the one I had in Formula 1 back in 2015. As soon as Hanna turned back to her, scolding her once more, she ran towards the yard.
I found it amusing that, when my friend turned back to me, that curly-haired blonde girl peeked around the door, trying not to let us see her, possibly feeling quite curious about what we had to discuss.Â
It didnât bother me at all, but exactly the opposite. I used to do the same when I was a child and my parents had friends coming home.
âAre you here or not, Sebastian?â
Hanna quickly brushed her hand over my face. I immediately shifted my gaze from the little girl and refocused on her. She had her arms crossed, her sweater sleeves rolled up, and her face was completely red.
I wasnât sure if she was angry with little Emily, with me, or with the situation, though she had no reason to be. After all, I was the one who had come to my parentsâ house, my home, to get ready to see Y/N. It wasnât my problem that I had encountered Hanna and this mysterious girl here, without any prior notice. At least, I didnât see it as such.
âIâve been here since I arrived, Hanna. Youâre the one whoâs gone crazy seeing me show up,â I responded tersely.
âYou could have told me that you were coming.â
âDo I need to give an exact day for when Iâll be back home? Canât I give my parents a fucking surprise?â
âDidnât you consider that your parents might be running errands at this time? Or thatâŠâ
I left her talking to herself because the last thing I wanted was to argue, especially over something trivial like this. Her behavior was stressing me out too much, and that was the last thing I needed, especially considering that my ex and I might run into each other at any moment.
Without saying anything else, I headed to the kitchen to find a vase for the tulips for Y/N before they wilted. While filling it with water, I noticed the little girl. She was engrossed with that red toy car, moving it back and forth while murmuring commands with what seemed to be an attempt of technical Formula 1 words. She pushed her curls out of her face and suddenly decided to include the panda bear in the game.
I stared at the girl. Her face seemed familiar⊠too familiar, in fact. I didnât know exactly what it was, but I had a feeling I had seen her before in Heppenheim, though I didnât remember seeing her as part of any family of my parentsâ friends.
I tried to downplay the fleeting thought when Hanna arrived, leaning against the doorframe with her arms crossed and, as I had guessed upon looking back, with a rather unfriendly expression.Â
Her eyes were analyzing me, I knew it perfectly. I sighed and placed the vase on the counter, arranging the tulips as best as I could while trying to ignore her behavior.
"Are they for Y/N?" she finally asked.
"Who else would they be for?"
"She isnât here," she said abruptly, dropping the news.
Silence fell between us once again. I raised my gaze so quickly that I almost felt a bit dizzy. All she did was look at me, unable to continue the conversation or, at least, undecided on whether to continue it or not. Finally, after a few seconds, she decided to speak again:
"I know I told you sheâd be here this week, butâŠ" she hesitated. It was the first time I had seen her like this, and she was by no means the self-assured Hanna I had known since the first day of school. âDamn it, Seb, I shouldnât be telling you this, butâŠâ
"Does she have a boyfriend?"
That was the first thing that came to mind, and I immediately regretted blurting it out. Hanna laughed so hard that Emily, who was now chasing a butterfly, stopped dead in her tracks to see what was happening to her supposed aunt.
Hanna approached me. She gave me a few pats on the chest and then on the head, before giving me a hug that caught me off guard.
"How naive you are, Sebastian Vettel⊠Do you really think Y/N would have a boyfriend? Can you picture her having one?"
"Well, it's been five years since she broke up with me. It's about time she moved on, so I find it normal."
"Have you moved on? Do you have some secret girlfriend you havenât told us about, Mr. Privacy?"
I didnât answer, which was enough for her to know we were in the same romantic situation.
"I've slept with a few girls all these years, but Iâve never looked for anything serious," I confessed.
"Well, Iâm afraid to tell you that youâre in the same boat as Y/N then. As far as I know, she hasnât slept with anyone, although itâs understandable, considering she hasâŠâ
And before she could say anything more, she stopped talking. Again.
If the situation between us had calmed down, it had now become tense again. It was the second time that day, at least as far as I had noticed, that Hanna Prater seemed to have let something slip. I looked at her, searching her expressions for something that would give me a hint about what she wanted to say; she simply looked away and headed to the living room, sitting on the sofa and changing the channel from some cartoon pigs to the local Heppenheim news channel.
"What does Y/N have, Hanna? Or who does she have?"
"Y/N is in London, Seb," she finally revealed with a sigh, as if it was hard for her to tell me. âI know itâs not my place to tell you this, and even less that she would like you to know, but after your breakup⊠she has some contacts.â
"What kind of contacts are you talking about?" I wanted to know. Had she done something I wasnât aware of? Was she in trouble?
"To say it briefly, because the story is too long, a guy from this very famous boyband back in the day decided to come here for a while to find inspiration for new music and see what to do with his solo career," she explained. âCall it coincidence, luck or an act of God, but Niall ended up going to the bar where Y/N works and, well⊠the rest is history.â
I didnât know what to say⊠Yes, I hoped things were going a bit better for her than when we were together, but that she had met someone as important as that guy seemedâŠ
"The thing is, Y/N is in London right now. But sheâll be back, so donât worry. Sheâs been there for several days," Hanna continued. "Niall isnât particularly good at keeping secrets, and since he knew she was the face behind Red, he had the bright idea of mentioning it to his label who, luckily, said theyâd like to meet with Y/N to offer her a contract."
"And did you know any of this before telling me to come, or"
I tried not to sound angry, but the truth was I was, at least a little. To be more exact, I was more than just angry⊠I was upset. Upset simply because Y/N, knowing I had asked if she was the face behind that viral video that was having so much success, and now considering that she had a possibly important meeting with that record label, hadnât bothered to respond not only to my question but also to my birthday wishes.
I felt really bad because, despite being the person who probably knew y/n better than anyone else in the world, it seemed like the opposite.
"Y/N didnât tell me anything until the day before she left," she confessed quietly. "I swear, Seb, she was so reluctant to go that I even thought she wouldnât go and you two would finally get to talk about everythingâŠâ Once again, a pause full of uncertainty gnawed at me from within. âThe only thing she said to me before going to London was that she wasnât going to sign anything and that she was going only because she hadnât traveled since you two were together, and she actually was doing that because she needed to disconnect and think about a few things.â
"So⊠did she go for nothing?"
"She doesnât want to sign any record deal, Seb. She just wants to put her life in order and continue it as it is now. She doesnât need anything more than what she has."
I didnât know what to say, but I had a thousand conflicting thoughts swirling in my head right now. It struck me as very strange that my ex-girlfriend didnât want to accept a record deal. That was everything Y/N had worked for in this life, and now, when she had the opportunity, she was turning it downâŠ
Maybe Britta was right and the Y/N I knew was now just a mere ghost of my past, still haunting my life to torment me with the answers I never got.
"Y/N should accept it," was all I could say, impassive to what my ears had just heard. "I canât believe sheâd turn down something sheâs fought for so many yearsâŠâ
Suddenly, a melody from a song I didnât recognize started playing in the room. Emily appeared with a phone in her hand and ran to give it to Hanna who, upon looking at the screen, became quite alarmed.
"Sorry, Seb, itâs importantâŠ" she said without taking her eyes off the phone. "Emily, stay here with Seb, okay? Iâll be right backâŠâ
Hanna left faster than I would have liked, leaving me alone with the little girl, who again kept staring at me.
"Youâre just like on TV..."
The little blonde girl came up to me, too close, and began examining me closely. She placed her small hands on my cheeks and moved them across my face. I was sure she was leaving little traces of dirt, but I didnât mind when I saw she couldnât stop smiling and laughing.
"If my mommy were here, sheâd be very happy to see you," she said, sitting next to me.
"Does your mom know who I am?"
She nodded.
"Mommy watches you on TV every day," she revealed. "Well, not every day, but when youâre on grannyâs TV on weekends, she spends hours and hours watching you at your work!"
"So your mom likes Formula 1, huh?"
"Whatâs that?" she asked innocently. However, before I could say anything, she spoke again. "Oh, I remember now! Thatâs whatâs on TV where the cars go really fast, right? And you drive one of them, donât you?"
I nodded slightly while laughing.
"Mommy says itâs very dangerous and sometimes sheâs scared about what might happen to you. Mommy really likes you a lot, you know? Why donât you go out with her and be my daddy?"
"Sometimes it is a bit dangerous, yes, but donât worry: today there are many safety measures to keep us safe, and we also take a lot of care when we drive,â I said quietly, trying to sound as calm as possible and ignoring her last request. Did this girl not have a present father?
The girl frowned, not very convinced by my answer and, possibly, upset by ignoring part of what she was surely eager to know. Her eyes, a shade of blue that was neither dark nor light, looked at me with curiosity.
"Have you ever hurt yourself while driving your red car?" she asked again, interested.
"Well, umâŠ" I hesitated for a moment on what words to choose so as not to alarm her further. "Sometimes we have small bumps, but the barriers on the track protect us when we go off."
Emily seemed more at ease with the softened version of reality, although she still looked worried and upset. I didnât know why I was telling her all this considering she was probably no older than five and I might be scaring her.
"Hey, now tell me something about you, since Iâm on holidays and I donât want to talk about my work! What do you like to do? I donât know anything about you yet!"
Her eyes lit up when I asked her that. My main intention was to change the subject, but something inside me was glad to see her so happy when I showed some kind of interest in her.
"I love to paint and play!" she exclaimed. "I also like going to the park with mummy, dancing and singing at her work! And I also like tales!"
"Whatâs your favorite tale?"
âMommy always tells me one about a prince who is part of a blue team and takes part in an important game every year, and he always wins! And in the end, he falls in love with a very pretty waitress, and they have a little baby and take care of it together, and theyâre very happy!â
I got in absolute shock at her words.
Could it...?
No, itâs impossible, thereâs no way thatâs some kind of version of my story with Y/N. It must be the exhaustion and all the hustle and bustle of these last few days that are starting to make my head a mess.
I didnât know what else to say, so while I tried to sort my thoughts, we sat in silence for a while. I changed the channel from the local one to the cartoons that had been on earlier to keep Emily entertained.
The little one didnât say anything else, but she did snuggle up to me as if she had known me for much more than less than an hour.
When some amount of time had passed, I felt slight tugs on my shirt. I hadnât realized I had closed my eyes and had dozed off a little. Emilyâs little smile brought me back to reality:
âIs something wrong, little one?â I asked, worried that something had happened to her.
âAunt Hanna is still on the phone, and Peppa Pig is over,â she pointed to the TV with her little hand. âAnd you probably have to leave soon... Mrs. Heike and Mr. Norbert are coming back any moment now!â
âBut this is my house. Iâm not going anywhere,â I said, trying not to laugh. âHeike and Norbert are my parents. Do you remember that I told you that before?â
She nodded, relieved and partly remembering that we had talked about it earlier. From her face, I knew she was about to say something more, but I didnât hear her when I noticed my phone vibrating in my pocket.
I tried to disconnect as much as possible when I was on âvacation,â but given that it could be an important work issue, I decided to check what the notification was about.
To my absolute surprise, it was a message from Y/N:
Hi, Seb.
Iâm so sorry for not replying to you earlier. I completely forgot...
I really wanted to, but with one thing and another, itâs been impossible. Hanna has probably talked to you about it, so I wonât say much more so I donât stress you out more than you probably already are.
I promise that the next time you come, Iâll be there, and weâll talk about whatever you want.
I think we have quite a few things to discuss about, and I hope youâre not upset with me when that happens.
I read the message more times than I could count, not believing what my eyes were seeing. Relief mixed with confusion at the last sentence. âI think we have quite a bit to discuss, and I hope youâre not upset with me when that happensâ didnât make me think of anything good, especially coming from Y/N.
I took some time to reply, maybe hoping that Hanna, who I saw was coming back into the house, could help me. I started to worry again when I saw a forced smile on her face, as if she was trying to hide something, just as she seemed to have been doing all day.
I started to hear the door lock and then it opening. I knew perfectly by the way of walking that it was my parents, and Emily seemed to know it as well. The little one jumped off the sofa and ran towards them, which surprised me quite a bit.
I only did the same, except I stood up as calmly as I could, with a kind of fear I couldnât explain.
âYouâve come back home!â the little girl shouted excitedly, bouncing up and down. âMrs. Heike, Mrs. Heike! Can I ask you something now that your son, the one who drives cars and is very liked by mom, is here?â
My mother looked at the little girl, and then at me. Her face changed completely when she realized that Emily wasnât lying and that I was, in fact, back home. I didnât know what Hanna was like at that moment, but I would swear she was more distressed than she had been all day.
Even my father, who normally was a person who didnât get flustered by anything, seemed quite nervous.
Emily and I, however, seemed to be the only ones who werenât catching on and were living in our bubble of innocence.
âDoes your mommy have a nickname for you, Sebastian?â the little one asked me in a low voice, calling me by my name for the first time. Then she asked me to bend down and carefully placed her hand on my ear to tell me something so that no one would hear. âMy mommy says Iâm the sunshine of her life, but she always says to me not to tell anyone, that she calling me that way is a secret between us. No one answers me why when I ask them, do you know why?â

Chapter Seven: The Price of Heart
On the proclamation from the Iron Throne, King Viserys granted a ceremony and anointed a young maiden to unite both factions, Blacks and Greens, and renamed her as Lady Greenstar, a star that befell and shook the cores of Westeros, to which have known for causing disruption and awakened in the realm.
Apart from previous accomplishment on saving Princess Helaena and Prince Jacaerys, Lady Greenstar, a newcomer to Westeros, has its gaze is as deadly as a thorn. Upon a gaze of a maiden, menâs hearts fickle in delight, and womenâs hearts enraged with fright. And among others, she is nothing but an air of mystery, but her appearance is no more than averagely simple and unimpressive (claimed by Mushroom). Lady Greenstar, whose maiden name is unknown, the time of Viserysâs reign may have yet to be remain, as Lady Greenstar is in an absolute self-merry and encourage the nobles and commoners alike to a celebrate at her unimportant arrival at a tedious ceremony.
~Your POV~
The nightmare hadnât stopped.
You want to destroyâset ablaze everything into ashes.
In a soundless blight rising in your chest, you managed to gather yourself in the midst of ceremony. You wanted to scream. Heating anger risen within you; you are nowhere near happy with the proceedings. You just wanted to go home, anticipated that this no more than a fever dream, a weirdly filter episodic moment that is meant to be unseen.
Unable to gaze upon the crowd, despite your head is held high, your roundish headpiece wrapped atop your tucked hairstyle; your hairline styled and slicked back, yet your longish manes flowed and adorned your figure, clad in a floor length ivory gown, your arms heavies a wide bishop sleeves, but your forearms are fitted, ends of your v-pointed sleeves rested on the back of your hands. Your bodice, from bust to waist, the ivory corset is encrusted in pearls and gold embroidery, aligned and patterned with black and green stones as your long skirts in mermaid-shaped flowing, not strictly.
Bowing to Blacks and Greens, the ever so watchful gazes on the crowd are perplexed, yet so many spectators are grateful for your deeds. Some womenâs gaze directly lanced at your direction with envy, perhaps displeasure of King Viserysâs announcement. As for men, however, itâs unreadable for you, but with unknown gazes may have yet proceed to either have notable rancor or the deepest of illest intentions.
In Westeros, you knew that you could trust no man. For now, trusting the Targaryens is your only option, a sole bargain, a wager to your existence. Nothing has ever come to simple or as festive. All you wanted was to stay in the sidelines, watching the events unfold, not to be a part of one. The real question is: who sent you here, and what was the real purpose? Of course not, youâre just a simple and honest modern womanâor at least what anyone thought of your outward appearance, which prevailed by the designed precision of Queen Alicent and Lady Rhaenyraâs plan of softening image.
You werenât meant to be here.
The scream emerged.
All eyes snapped away from your direction. One man grabbedâdragged away and pointed itâs knife at Princess Helaenaâs throat at the centered floor, the guards had their swords up, as one of them demanded for the man to release the princess.
âNone should accept a woman as a knight on the throne,â the man spattered, yellow teeth gleaming, his voice grating with delight, continuing to drag the princess away bit by bit.
âMother,â Helaena pleaded quietly, the knife pressed onto her ivory skin, trying not to flail.
âItâs either the cause for the great nobles, or the cause of the war.â
Alicent is frightened for her daughterâs fate.
And so, you watched, palm clenched and unclenched. Hands behind your back, your body veiled with a silver sparkling cloak, but one hand seized the spare knifeâyour knife you had in your clutched purse, moving with caution as you descend the steps without anyone spotting your intentions.
âLet her go,â you said, before turning your eyes to theirs.
Soothe the realm.
The men flabbergasted at your appeased state. âWhat?â
âDid I stutter,â you said, ambling, the cloak floated a little. âYouâre ruining the Kingâs celebration. Do you want to be executed? Youâre in the presence of Targaryens.â
âI wonât lay rest until I see no woman standing beside the Iron Throne. I wonât serve by the likes of you!â
Shaking your head as you said, âWho said itâs about me?â
The man uttered no response but a heaving breath, near Helaena, furrowed with concern.
Unblinking, your head tilted to the side. âYou want me, right?â
The man carefully laid his eyes on you.
âYou donât want the princess,â you resumed, drew nearer. âYou want me.â
Soothe the realm.
Your eyes indicated to one of the guards to hold him down, but none succeeded on reading your body language. Looking at your side, Queen Alicentâs widened eyes glazed with warning, a reminder to soften the image. Prince Aemond still abide, his violet eye gleamed, his eye stated something more, wanting more of the anticipation of what youâll do next.
âLet her go, and Iâll give you what you want,â you negotiated.
âWhat makes you think I could negotiate with such a pathetic woman?â
âBecause Iâm not a liar,â you declared, hand stretched. âRelease her.â
After moments of hesitation, Princess Helaena has been freed into your arms, shaking. You lightly shoved her towards Alicent as you walked onward without looking elsewhere.
And before you knew it, a knife stabbed behind your belly.
The gasps ensued as the fight broke out, leaving the Blacks and Greens emerged with apprehension, still safe and guarded.
Turning around, the knife you held plunged into the backstabberâs throat, but missedâinstead it became a slight deep scratch on the cheek and his hand smacked against your cheekbone. Falling down, you pulled yourself back up again and knocked him out unconscious and rushed to Helaenaâs side again and escorted her out, leaving the guards to assign fate to the intruders.
The fate became crueler; the man separated you and Helaena, shoving Helaena aside the intruder hooked you by the arms, trapped. When another opponent came, you lifted yourself in the air, and punted the opponentâs chest with both of your feet, leaving you and the large man collapsed. Rolling back, you gathered yourself again and escorted Helaena back at the corridor.
A young boy screamedâPrince Lucerysâhis arm being yanked through the crowd. Briskly, you aid to their side, shoving the crowd apart, you casted your cloakâaiming at the foe, and lanced the manâs neck, trails of blood exploded, smearing the young princeâs face and placed him back Rhaenyraâs side.
A tall figure suddenly shielded you; the knife flew at your direction; Aemond deflected the attempted shot with his spare dagger. Queen Alicent and Lady Rhaenyra rushed altogetherâguards protected all and ushered back into the corridor, leaving you breathless.
The pain has been numbed due to the shock implanted.
Far back at the pillar, you watched Rhaenyra and Alicent exchanging with altercation while you find yourself leaning on the stoned pillar with your left hand clutched your bleeding waist beneath the white dress.
âThis wasnât supposed to happen,â Rhaenyra stated in shaky breath.
âOf course not,â Alicent seethed. âKing Viserys shouldâve thought of bringing Lady Greenstar to the Iron Throne to soothe the realm before the commotion erupts.â
âI hadnât known,â Rhaenyra argued back, cradling Lucerys in her arms.
âYou did this. Lady Greenstar warned that this would happen. A private ceremony shouldâve been suffice.â
âWe need Lady Greenstar to unite both factionsâfather suggested to that.â
âYour ideas may influence others, but youâll never influence with me from the misguidance of your indulgence.â
âI have made no declarations and decisionsâit is my father who has done it so!â
Bellows of altercation continued as Prince Jaecerys stood nearby you, given you an awkward tight-lipped expression with his hands laid rest upfront.
Blacks and Greens watched two ladies quarreled with venom as your chest heaving. Gazing below onto your hand, the gold ring sparked on your fourth finger; you brought it up to your lips and kissed it.
Everything will be alright, a gentle voice reminded.
Lidded eyes hazed as the hand placed on your back shoulder; Princess Helaena walked over to your side and consoled you with diminutive smile.
Instead of returning the offer, you patted Helaenaâs hand your half-lidded eyes in a suggestion that everything is alright. The concentration in your mind has been misplaced that Helaena began to tie your strands to tiny braids. Youâve inspected everyone. So far, it went smoothlyâyouâve found no wounds, but when your eyes meet Green sons, your head inclined to a subtle bow. While Prince Aegon bowed back with his smugness, Prince Aemond is as elegant and unreadable. His eye still lay onto you as you faced back, watching the princess and the queen.
Altercations and debate went ongoing.
The aggravating pain hadnât ceased.
âStop,â you groaned.
The abrasion struck you so hard that you let a long groan, your head hung back, relied on a cold pillar.
âLady Greenstar,â Jacaerys said.
âIâm fine,â you assured, eyes watery. âIâm fine.â
Daemon, no doubt, is suspicious. Shielding Helaena with your might, you held onto her spare hand.
The quarrel wasnât far from over as you sauntered, the belly scorched again, pinching your nerves and coiled your stomach to a point of punishment you couldnât withstand.
The cough unleashed, veiling the spots of blood.
SomeoneâŠ
And collapsed onto your knees, trembling with cold sweat, fell onward.
âLady Greenstar,â Jacaerys called aloud, as he caught you into arms, soon follow by your feet, your body weakened, slipped away.
âYouâre safe now,â you said, darting at Aemond, offering him your sweetest expression laid on your lips.
Gradually, your eyes fluttered with slow blinks, choking. Then your vision faded to nothing.
~Aemondâs POV~
âMy Queen, Lady Greenstar has collapsed,â Criston announced.
Queen Alicent and Lady Rhaenyra halted, and veered back to your lifeless body in Jacaerysâs arms.
Both womenâs anger replaced with fear. âNoâŠâ Rhaenyra uttered.
âTake her to the Maester at this instant. We canât afford to lose her,â Alicent ordered.
All the while, Aemond, the kingâs second son, is devastated, powerless and hopeless as the life slipped between your parted lips. Piqued as he was eyeing on the golden ring rested on your fourth finger.
~Your POV~
What the hell was that?
âThe life flashes before your eyes,â it said.
Your head snapped to the noise.
âPoor little woman, whoâs life has been tormented one after the other,â a voice rang into your ears in a darkened void. âA life of a woman is no ordinary, but will soon be free.â
âWho are you?â
âMy, youâre just a thing of beauty. A shame that comes price with itâever so ethereal but with a demonic spirit residing in you since your childhood, all but bad luck,â it taunted. âYou have killed and tortured the mundane, both men and women, especially in your days where you were trying to save your dying loverâborn a thief and a liarâthe evil men have taught you well.â
âWhat the hell do you want?â
âI want to make an offer, an offer to which it might entice you. Right now, your very soul is on the bridge between life and death.â
âI know that!â
âOf course you knew. But you didnât believe that we exist.â
âAll are anything but real.â
The voiceâs rang into your ears with its taunting laugh. âBut if you wish to remain alive and well, I offered you choices, one which the cost of your life to be rekindled. One which you cannot turn your back intoâand I offer you this; stay in Westeros and serve the realm, serve the dynasty and find a new purpose and bond. Even if it means of forgetting your dead lover. Or, the Gods will offer a sweet and merciful deathâyour pathetic and tragic life will soon meet its end and face your maker.â
âI want to go home,â you objected.
âGoing home is no longer an option; if you go there, chances are your death will be as quickly repulsive and vile; death is near at your doorstep as soon as your consciousness blurred.â
âWhat do you mean?â
âThe men from your former clan are hunting you down. They have found you. You thought running away from a syndicate after burning everything to ashes would be simple.â
âWhy Westeros? Why send me there? Who sent me here?â
âThose questions are irrelevant; time is ticking.â
âAt what cost?â
âThe price youâll pay, itâs either your eyes, ear or mouth. Or I will decide for you.â
Goosebumps flooded over you, heart struck with quiver.
âI canât,â you whimpered. âI canât!â Fell onto the ground, hands veiled your face, walls youâve built tarnished as your cries echoed through the void, cried longer than you shouldâve.
âSweet summer child,â it cooed. âTime is running short. The elder man of Hightower wants to burn your body.â
Another shiver ran.
âI know everything. Submit yourself to me, and I shall grant the desireâthe offer I gave youâyour life will start anew. What do we say to the God of Death?â
âNot today.â
âGood!â the voice rang, enchant. âI knew you have come to made your decision.â
The green light sprang and ran into your heartâyour voice reached high into bellows and wails. Nails digging into your chest firmly, nails dragged with blood, already on the floor, knees on your chest. Ears rang in high-pitched noise; ears bleed as nose, and mouth drained in red flow, crying in agony.
âDonât worry, child, youâll soon meet the fate that youâve been longing for,â it said. âYouâll find your purpose here. The history of Fire & Blood, alongside yours, will be rewritten.â
In that moment, you knew the unknown being wasnât lying.

wyll and ulder ravengard's timeline pre-baldur's gate 3
1468 DR: wyll is born <3
1475 or 1476 DR: wyll sees duke stelmane for the first time and gets smitten with her
1476 DR: wyll, 8y/o, gets caught sneaking into the counting house when he'd heard it held mythical treasure
sometime before and until 1482 DR: blaze ulder ravengard works as grand duke abdel adrian's right hand man. (abdel is notably a bhaalspawn.) as blaze, ulder served as warden of wyrm's rock fortress
1482 DR: abdel dies, ulder ravengard gets promoted to flaming fist marshal, wyll is 14 years old. this would also be the same age wyll first drank alcohol and "got so tipsy from wine, [he] puked in dillard portyr's bushes".
1483 DR: wyll gets his first kiss in the blushing mermaid!
on or before 1485 DR: ulder ravengard becomes grand duke of baldur's gate
1485 DR: ulder gets called away to elturel to settle a dispute, cult of the dragon attacks baldur's gate, wyll ravengard signs a warlock pact to stop them and gets exiled from baldur's gate </3
1485-1492 DR: wyll travels the sword coast as the blade of frontiers
1492 DR: start of baldur's gate 3, ulder gets dragged down to avernus while he was in elturel, wyll gets tadpoled while hunting down karlach, you know the rest!
more fun facts:
ulder would often send mini-wyll to deliver messages to sharess' caress. wyll did not know the place was a brothel.
wyll has a fishing spot under wyrm's rock bridge, he didn't catch much and would get scolded by his father
wyll has been to waterdeep as a kid when he and his father visited
wyll has a thing for mermaids, he'd swam around the docks to look for them and apparently saw one
totally not relevant to the last point, ulder has at least one trashy mermaid smut book, one that wyll can quote verbatim
source: forgotten realms wiki, in-game dialogue
feel free to add more info/any corrections <3

The direct follow-up of this post.
I finally found a complete set of the 12 illustrations for the twelve months of this "Fairy Tale Calendar". They were all the German versions, because they were apparently designed by Heinrich Lefler, who was Austrian - indicating the German version of the calendar came first, and it was later translated in French.
I unfortunately could not find which fairy tale corresponded to which month, but here is the full set. Mot of them are based upon the brothers Grimm fairytales, except for two.
Cinderella:
The Frog King:
The Little Mermaid (Andersen):
Briar Rose (aka the German Sleeping Beauty):
The Goose Girl:
Godfather Death:
Hansel and Gretel:
Mary's Child:
Rapunzel:
Snow-White and Rose-Red:
Little Snow-White:
Swan, stick on (a Ludwig Bechstein story):
If you are interested, these pictures come from this website page dedicated to the art and work of Heinrich Lefler. It contains other examples of illustrated calendars he created (he was quite famous for those), and more of his fairy tale illustrations (there is notably the full set of illutrations he did for MusÀus' The Chronicle of the Three Sisters.

A Gallery of Dragons from Around the World
Dragons appear in the myths and legends of civilizations around the world from ancient times to the present day. Like the lion in ancient Mesopotamia, the dragon in some cultures (notably China) came to be associated with royalty and good fortune in that the king had subdued the forces of chaos that threatened order and stability.
In ancient Mesopotamia, the dragon was closely associated with the goddess Tiamat and chaos, defeated by the hero-god Marduk, but the image also appears as a symbol of protection and civilization, as with the mushussu dragon of the Ishtar Gate of Babylon. The same is true of China, Korea, and Japan where the dragon is both a threat and a defender, or order and bringer of rain. The image of the hero defeating the dragon is repeated in many different cultures â some having no contact with the others â and is thought to represent the triumph of order and civilization over the perceived disorder and capriciousness of the natural world.
Even so, once order has been established, dark forces still threaten to destroy it and return the people to an uncivilized state â and so the dragon continues to be depicted in art as both a defender of and a menace to civilization and, in Christian art, the works of God.
The following gallery presents images of dragons around the world from Mesopotamia to China to medieval Europe, including an image of the dragon-woman Melusine (sometimes depicted as a mermaid), best known today as the logo for Starbucks Coffee Company.

ALRIGHT. So. Idk how many people (who are not my friends/mutuals and get to hear me rant about this show every other week) are aware, but I'm slightly obsessed with Winx Club. And I've talked off and on about these Winx redesigns I'm slowly chipping away at, and how doing them has sorta led me to rewriting the show itself, since I've redone a lot of the lore around the transformations (esp the later ones).
But because I'm a full-time university student majoring in character design with an interest in Not seriously injuring my wrist/hand, it's taking me. a while to make them (as of writing this, I have rough designs for all the main 6 girls up to Enchantix. 2 of them have finished designs which I shall be posting soon :D), so in the meantime I thought it'd be kinda fun to throw down some of the overall AU headcanons I have about the world and how it works. SO. with that I present:
Cup's Winx Rewrite AU Headcanons:
-What is known as the Magic Dimension/Universe in the show, in my version, is more like the term for a collective of various worlds, united through a variety of portals and links to the distant planet, Magix, which serves as an intergalactic capital. -Part of the reason that Magix exists in the way it does (both as the capital for the universe, as well as being where all three main magic schools in the show (Alfea, Cloud Tower, and Red Fountain) are located) is in part as a means to prevent another disaster like that which occurred at the hands of the Shadow Phoenix and the Ancestral Witches, which ultimately ended in the complete destruction of the planet, Domino. -The school's themselves both function as academic places of learning as well as training grounds for new guardians to learn how to protect themselves. Each school offers a different magical path for its students: Alfea, the path of Fairy Magic. Cloud Tower, the path of Witchcraft, and Red Fountain, the path of Wizardry (those who learn it being called "Specialists"). While it's uncommon, it is possible for students to switch paths if they find they aren't gelling with the one they started with. Everyone has the potential for any kind of magic, but that doesn't mean every kind of magic works for every person. -Oh, also, there's no gender specifications for any school. Fairies, witches, and specialists of any and every identity under the sun(s) exist in this world. -Fairies, witches, and specialists are not the Only magical beings to exist in the dimension. The planet Andros, notably, is home to not only many land-dwelling beings, but also to mermaids, who live in the Infinite Ocean, a realm that connects to all other oceans in the Magic Universe via numerous underwater gates. -Earth is, or rather, was part of the Magic Universe, for a very long time. This was up until the tragedy that befell the planet's magical creatures at the hands of the Wizards of the Black Circle. This led to its link being cut off from the rest of the other magical realms, and leaving its human society to develop in a world where magic remained a mystery. -This does not mean magic on Earth died. It continued to exist in the fringes, where it was safest for it to be allowed to develop. The bulk of it was/is maintained in Tir Na Nog, the Kingdom of the Earth Fairies, due to its extreme difficulty to locate by mundane means. -Another celestial object that was one connected to this network was one of Solaria's moons: Lumenia. Solaria claims to have lost contact with them eons ago, and refuses to make attempts to reopen the connection. -Since all of this IS rooted in a redesign project, I feel like I should note that there are a multitude of forms of varying power levels open for fairies to utilize. However, only 3 forms are actually taught at Alfea: Winx, Charmix, and Enchantix, Winx being the base form every fairy has the ability to use once they figure out how to tap into their powers. -Enchantix is one of the most powerful forms to exist. Once it is acquired, it serves to be the new base form over Winx. Gaining it also opens the doors for the fairy to acquire practically any other form to exist, most of which serve more to help in certain situations (eg.: Sirenix = Underwater needs). I'll go in-depth about the lore of each form once I've finished their designs. :)
I feel like. that covers most of my bases for now. I have. so many more thoughts sitting in my brain, if anyone is curious about anything please feel free to ask. I'm basically making myself stop for now bc I do have some homework I need to work on tonight JKHFJK
#winx club#winx#winx headcanons#winx redesign#winx rewrite#cupcake rambles#genuinely I could talk about my ideas for this and my thoughts on the show for DAYS#alas. I have responsibilities.

The Anomalies aka Miles,Percy and Jason headcanons because i keep wanting to talk about how they hang out and work together
So!!Going in,Miles is a dreadhead and transmascfem,Percy is an afrolatina trans woman and Jason is afrolatino and fat.Be respectful ty!!
Dairy Super is their 2000s cartoon protagonists hang out. It's the Prime Earth equivalent to Dairy Queen and it was their first ever place they had a proper convo post-Miles and Percy literally crashing into Jason on his motorcyle as they shot out of their portals on the outskirts of Gotham so it has a special place in their hearts
Usual orders:Salted caramel truffles with a double cheeseburger and fries for Miles, blue cotton candy and blue kryptonian burgers for Percy and frosted animal cookies and a taco salad for Jason. They're regulars and a staple as something of Dairy Super cryptids that let you take pictures of them and show their powers for you if you ask first instead of being rude.Eventually Dairy Super announces a The Anomalies special meal you can earn with coupons
They have schedueld weekly diy sessions-they each have their own collection of diy items they made and gifts from the other two's but their favorites they've made are their 'White Streak Gang' tops,Percy's gray streak having faded and Miles getting his own white streak with Apollo's Blessing for their artistic talent and dedicated-Miles' is a sleveless hoodie,Percy's is a crop top and Jason's is a baggy t-shirt.The sessions were Percy's idea as the most actively punk out of the team!!
Obviously Percy and Jason join in on Miles' art, most notably his grafitti but also literally as he dedicates his sketchbook to them upon their first seperation like he does Gwen. They snatch it up from him and tease him about it like her in Atsv too and he's even more embarrased. They tag with him across New York,Gotham and Metropolis too and he got them into painting and chalk(Jason actually bit into one when he thought nobody was looking and they didn't say nothing because all their autistic asses had done it at some point so no snitches)
They watch Bluey together.Yeah there's no way around it,they simply would. It's where Jason got his nickname for Percy,Bluey, not just because Bluey Heeler is blue but also because she's so Percy-coded and it was Miles' suggestion to watch it so Jason tried to resist but couldn't at both Miles and Percy's Kitty Cat Eyesâąïž and Mike, once you see this drop lore for their fave characters and episodes and merch they've stolen /lh /nf
Ghosthunting amd cryptidhunting but actually because they know damn well they actually exist even before Jason's ressurected ass came along. They exorcise when needed but mostly just make new ghost friends and they ask the cryptids questions and help out with their problems if they're benevolent, which they almost always are
Miles is strawberries,Percy is blue raspberry and Jason is cookies and cream.Miles is pink and black,Percy is blue and pink and Jason is red and pink.Miles is a sunflower,Percy is a bluebell and Jason is a rose.Iykyk
Miles is basically a human kamoji in his mannerisms and expressions and it drew Percy and Jason in big time out of wanting to keep around him for how fun and adoptable he is and his hardcore traits underneath only made them love him even more
And vice versa as Miles felt Percy and Jason are trustworthy instantly due to how overtly tough they are but could sense a hidden gooey softness underneath and it's all around a well-balanced dynamic from the start
They go to the beach in diy'd suits made to reflect their aesthetics:Miles' is a cutesy swim trunks and tank top,Jason's is gothic swim suits and no shirt to show off his Lazarus Pit top surgery scars and Percy's is a mermaid themed blue bikini with an attached hoodie. They always make sure to help clean the shore and ocean on each trip but also to have fun by swimming together, sunbathing, getting ice cream and boba if they're lucky, collecting seashells, sandcastle building and even playing with the marine life per courtsey of Percy
Percy carries around motivational stickers so Miles and Jason picked up the habit but completely different kinds from hers-Percy's are ocean based,Miles' are pastel kidcore and Jason's are kidgothic
Miles and Jason do that brothers thing where you throw food in the air for the other to catch with your mouth. They get it 8/10 of the time
Percy does that mom friend thing where she places her hand on the back of Miles and Jason's heads to pull them close to hers in a hug as she closes her eyes
Jason subconciously amps up his scary aura when he senses or at least percieves a threat to Miles or Percy and notably dosen't do it for himself
Jason is basically a portable heater with how warm he always is contrary to the ghostly assumption of him being cold all the time so Miles and Percy plop down on him often even if not their entire bodies and he's not complaining because of how comfy they feel
Miles and Percy do their nails with Miles starting off with just a plain color until Percy got him to embrace his femininity and now they both do real nail art and got Jason to join in by revealing they could do tradgoth styles on him.Miles does multicolor or sunflowers,Percy does sharp and jelly(because jellyfish lmfao)and Jason has them do edgy ahh ones on him
They have matching tamagotchis Margo hacked to be communicators too:Miles' is a cat,Percy's is a shark and Jason's is a bat
Tim and Miles are a thing?????Obviously? That goes without saying,it's not a real crossover if they aren't.Tim and Miles crushed on sight and only didn't get together sooner because teenage boygirls are stupid and they're so cheesy together and so t4t and audhd4audhd too and Tim is also cherokee on Janet's side!!His brown swag bewitched Miles just like her afrolatina swag bewitched him /lh.They put their minecrafts beds next to eachothers and i wanna see TV Girl redraws with them STAT
Bruce:Uh.....Watcha got there? Jason, standing with a hot earthy part-kryptonian part-human half greek-god girl(Percy)and an itsy bitsy ass spider mutant who's technically a quasi-god by virtue of blessing and blue power ring accsess(Miles)and all three of them sipping Batburger milkshakes:Batburger Batidas

âšHello!âš
My name is Jay. I love Star Trek, Good Omens, BBC Merlin, and basically anything sci-fi or fantasy.
My favorite book changes by the day, but right now it's Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut. My favorite TV show is a hard one, but I'll whack down Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. My favorite movie is Avatar. (The blue people one, NOT that wretched excuse of a ATLA film). My favorite fictional character is Marvel's Gambit.
I'm a semi-active fanfic writer (currently writing a Marvel Bucky x OC reader series!) and am also working on various original stories! The current one is I Won't Hurt You, a fluffy but surprisingly emotional story about a kitten who transformed into a catgirl in a laboratory experiment and gets adopted/abducted by a powerful bounty hunter with a soft heart. Check it out on AO3! Tags for it are "I Won't Hurt You" and "IWHY".
I'm bisexual and genderfluid - any pronouns work.
I'm an amateur archer who placed third in my division for the state-wide championship and also a budding clay worker. I love off-roading in my Jeep Wrangler and pretending to be a mermaid in any body of water I come across.
I'm double-majoring in Computer Science and Spanish Linguistics.

Hi, again! Luv what you did for my request with Marie Antoinette! Reader! I love how you characterised her and how she interacted with others, notably Jack!
Hope it wouldn't be too much of a bother for me to request Amphitrite! Reader with Poseidon, sort of a re-imagining of their marriage story where Amphitrite is an elegant, diplomatic queen, and yet literally the only thing keeping Poseidon from drowning humanity entirely/not having the seas in war with other gods?
I imagine Trite and him originally met during the Titanomachy, where she was sided with her dad Oceanus, and later met again in the actual marriage myth. I'd also especially love to request the part in the myth where Poseidon couldn't rizz her up himself, so he sent every sea creature to do it for him, and she goes, not because they were convincing, but because she wanted him to do it himself.
I wish you the best, take care of yourself, and keep doing what you do! đ
A/N: Hello and thank you so much for even suggesting it in the first place! It was a blast to give her some characteristics with what you gave me and put her next to different characters. Jack was the cherry on top~ đ€
You already know the answer~ I'd gladly write about your wonderful Amphitrite! I wish you the same back, take care of yourself and as always, love your art work and I hope you enjoyâšđ
A Love Forged in the Depths đâ€+đ
â© In the shimmering depths of the vast sea, where the currents weave tales of old, resided the regal domain of Poseidon, the tempestuous god of the oceans. Yet, beneath the tumultuous waves, there awaited a woman upon Poseidons arrival home.
It was Amphitrite, the elegant queen whose grace would temper with Poseidon's wrath as it often did! Soon enough bringing back the couple back down memories lane.
â© Reader type: Amphitrite!reader x Poseidon
â : A bunch of romantic fluff and teasing!
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden hue upon the waters, Amphitrite awaited Poseidon's return to their coral-laden palace.
Her dark skin glistened under the iridescent glow, and her red eyes held depths as unfathomable as the ocean itself. With each graceful movement of her dark mermaid tail, she exuded a sense of regality and power.
As Poseidon emerged from the depths, his trident gleaming with a fierce light, Amphitrite approached him with a gentle yet resolute demeanor.
"Welcome home, my lord," she greeted, her voice a melody that calmed even the wildest of storms.
"I trust your ventures were successful~?"
Poseidon's gaze softened as he beheld his queen, the one who held sway over his heart like no other woman.
"Indeed, they were, my darling Amphitrite." he replied, his voice filled with genuine feelings of happiness to be with his love once more, but he was hiding something behind those dark blue eyes.
"But, the affairs of the sea are ever tumultuous, and my patience wears thin on these mortals.."
Amphitrite raises an eyebrow at his words, confused on what the mortals could've possibly done now. She placed a comforting hand on Poseidon's arm, her touch soothing the storm within him.
"I understand your frustrations, my love.." she said, her words a balm to his troubled spirit.
"But please remember, it is through rational thinking and restraint from your anger that we maintain balance in the world right?"
Poseidon grunted, his gaze drifting towards the distant horizon where mortals sailed upon the waves.
"Humanity tests my patience at every turn.." he growled, his grip tightening on his trident.
"They pollute my waters, plunder my depths, and show no respect for the power I wield."
Amphitrite nodded understandingly, her eyes never leaving his.
"Yes, they may be reckless and foolish at times," she conceded. "But they are also capable of great beauty and ingenuity. We must guide them, not punish them."
Poseidon sighed, the tension in his shoulders easing slightly under Amphitrite's gentle persuasion.
"You speak wisdom, my queen. I'll think about this..." he admitted, his voice softer now.
"Perhaps I have been too quick to anger, too eager to unleash the fury of the sea.."
Amphitrite smirked, her radiant presence illuminating the darkness that threatened to consume them both.
"Exactly, together, we can achieve great things, my love~" Amphitrite said, her words a promise of unity and strength.
Poseidon took Amphitrite's hand in his own, the roughness of his touch softened by the tenderness in his eyes. He pulls her closer to himself, grabbing her waist.
"You are the anchor that holds me steady~" he confessed, chuckling under his breath. "Remember the day we first met?"
Amphitrite blushed and couldn't help but grin, biting her lip at the excitement Poseidon was expressing.
"Who do you take me for my king, of course I would remember such a embarrassing day upon your behalf, hehe~"
Once upon a time, amidst the chaos of the Titanomachy, where the Greek gods waged war against their predecessors.
Poseidon had first laid eyes upon Amphitrite here, as Oceanus's daughter and not his wife.
She fought alongside her father, her strength matched only by her elegance and diplomatic prowess.
Intrigued by her beauty and resilience, Poseidon sought to win her affections.
Yet, despite his attempts to charm her, Amphitrite remained steadfast, unmoved by his advances especially after this war.
Remaining loyal to her people and father! Unwilling to concede defeat, Poseidon devised a plan on a way to win her heart somehow.
Even if it took sending forth every sea creature under his command, from the majestic whales, to the playful dolphins.
Poseidon tasked them with persuading Amphitrite to accept his courtship. But unbeknownst to him, Amphitrite saw through his ruse, recognizing his reluctance to approach her directly.
It caused the woman great amusement that he wanted her so badly, but didn't dare set a foot before her.
One fateful day, as the ocean stirred with anticipation, Amphitrite decided to visit Poseidons domain and confronted him.
"Poseidon, god of the sea, why do you hide behind your creations?"
Poseidon, taken aback by her boldness to just enter so uncalled for caused his heart to skip a beat of panic. As he gazed upon her with newfound admiration.
"If your heart truly yearns for mine, then let your words be your own, not whispered through the mouths of creatures~"
The woman winks at him, about to turn away and leave, but Poseidon saw his chance and took it bravely!
"Amphitrite, daughter of Oceanus please wait! Your grace surpasses that of the ocean's depths, your wisdom and words are the most impressive things I've heard..!"
Amphitrite stops in her tracks, her red eyes shimmering with curiosity at what came next. A smug grin formed on her lips.
"Oh, is that so Poseidon~?"
"Yes! It is true..I have sought to win your favor through the sea's creatures, fearing rejection. But now, I stand before you vulnerable and sincere, asking for your hand in marriage.."
Finally the god of the ocean had said it, he had admitted to what had been so clear as running water, his true feelings and intentions for sending every creature in the sea to catch Amphitrite's attention.
"Poseidon," she replied, her voice soft yet resolute.
"Your sincerity brings me more enjoyment than any gesture orchestrated by you to win my heart. I accept your proposal, not because it was convincing but that you finally said it to my face, handsome~"
And so, beneath the starlit canopy of the ocean's depths, Poseidon and Amphitrite soon exchanged vows of love for each other, their union a testament to the enduring power of genuine affection and mutual respect.
As husband and wife, they were now both rulers of the sea and all its creatures, the same ones Poseidon had used to try winning Amphitrite's affection!

But orders are orders. Or so thatâs what you repeat to yourself in your head as you help the crew restrain it and drag it below the deck. All thatâs available to keep it in is a small metal poolâ more of a tub really, filled with seawater and hardly two feet deep.
Youâre the last to leave the hold, and only you seem to hear the mournful cry the creature makes as you climb to the top deck again. You chew your nails off with worry in your quarters that night, guilt settling in your stomach like a heavy stone.
You force yourself to avoid that area of the ship to close your heart to the whole situation, and for two days that seems to work. You carry on with your duties; marking maps, scrubbing the deck, and tying knots. But try as you might, you just canât get that awful, mournful cry out of your head. Canât unsee the fear in those golden, catlike eyes. And it starts to show.
Upon seeing your uncharacteristically mopey demeanor, Akaza decides to saddle you with the task of feeding the creature, âSince youâre so broken up about it.â
You roll your eyes at that, all but snatching the bucket of fresh fish from his grasp. You canât help but see your friend in a new light after this whole debacle, not that fishermen were generally the compassionate or trustworthy sort, you just⊠You liked Akaza. He was friendly from the start, and respectful, and pretty⊠You supposed you expected better of him.
As you make your way below the deck where the creature is being held, you canât help but feel excited. Your giddiness melts into anxiety as soon as you reach the bottom of the stairs, however, hearing the splashing halt at your arrival.
You donât see him at first, but as you approach, you notice two yellow eyes just peeking out from beneath the water. You fight the instinct to flee; your curiosity inspires you to march right up to it. Immediately itâ he backs up to the farthest side of the pool away from you. The feeling is reminiscent of a stray cat running away when you pspspsps it.
âHello there⊠you. Uh, you must be hungry, right?â
His finlike ears flick, but otherwise, he shows no signs that he even understands you. In fact, youâd be surprised if he did. Heâs probably never even come across a human before. Awkwardness permeates the room. Should you even bother trying to communicate? Do you just throw the fish in and bolt? Risk hand-feeding it and likely losing some fingers?
âFood? Hungry? Ahh, you probably donât understand a bloody word Iâm saying.âÂ
You curse under your breath.
At this point, youâre just talking to fill the silence with something other than your shaky breathing.
You reach into the bucket barehanded, uncaring of the slimy texture of the fish after almost a lifetime at sea. You wave the fish in the air, which seems to snap his attention away from you, but only briefly.
âLooks good, right? Been a couple days since youâve eaten, i bet.â
You set the bucket down on the floor, but it hardly registers when you take in the sight of his tail beneath the water. The disturbed surface of the pool distorts it slightly, but you canât help but stare even still.
You hold out the fish by the tail and the creatureâs molten gaze flickers nervously between you and the offering, oozing distrust. But somehow, torn? Cautiously, he dares to come closer, using his webbed hands to âwalkâ himself across the pool. Youâre mesmerized by his face as he approaches, even half-hidden beneath the water, heâs notably handsome.
A cute round face with even rounder eyes, wide and fixated on the fish in your grasp. His skin is bronzed by the sun, and the image of him lounging on a rock in the summer sun appears in your mind. But what really sticks out is the color of his hair. It looks like a flame; bright blond with crimson tips.
He stops a foot or so away, and no closer.
âItâs for you.â
Still nothing, and you have to admit youâd be mistrustful too if you were in his shoesâ er, position, you supposed was a better word. He didnât quite have feet. So you compromise and drop the fish into the pool, deciding you were satisfied with his willingness to come even this close. In an instant, he ducks under the water and snatches the fish between his pointed teeth, nearly swallowing it whole with two harsh chomps to soften it up.
âGood!â You canât help but praise, and instantly you feel silly for it. âMore fish where that came from, though try to chew the next one, yeah?â
And thatâs when youâre completely soaked in seawater by a rather rude splash of his fluke.

As for the "Is Skully Secretly Jacked?" debate, I would like to bring up a point made by someone in the tags of the post that started said debate:
The twins do kinda-sorta look like twigs. Granted, they aren't human, but still.
And in my opinion, Vil and Rook both look like twigs as well.
[Referencing this post and this post!]
My response includes many example images that are MASSIVE spoilers for book 7 cards (which havenât been released in EN yet!!) so please proceed with caution.
I think a lot of the characters definitely look like twigs due to their in-game live 2D models usually not accurately depicting their actual bodies. Just as an example, here are what the twins look like in live 2D:
... And here is what the twins look like in (Mermaid Fin SSR) card artwork. You can see there is a MAJOR discrepancy.
We also see this in Floyd's Club Wear card. His arms are much more defined in the card art and are noodle thin in the live 2D model:
It's not just the twins either. Another notable nerf between the card art and the live 2D models occurs with Silver and Sebek. I mean, just LOOK at their arms in the P.E. Uniform cards... and then how sad and limp they look in the actual gameplay...
Vil and Rook are entirely different cases. Both of them are typically wearing long sleeves, which conceals their bodies and gives the illusion of lacking muscle.
It was stated in the Magical Archives that Rook is beefier than Trey (who is quite strong from playing soccer as a kid and helping out at the Clover family bakery). It also makes sense for Rookâs character as a huntsman wanting to hide his presence (thereby making it easier for him to observe his prey). Showing off how big of a threat he actually is with his physique out on display defeats the whole purpose.
Without the arms covered, we can see how truly muscular Rook isâthough again, the live 2D model is greatly toned down.
Vil, meanwhile, is in a separate category. He is strong tooâthis much is true! However, his build ISNâT jacked up like Sebek, Silver, Rook, etc. Why? Vil states that he dutifully trains to maintain his figure as a model but is also mindful that he doesnât get too bulky, as that wouldnât be aesthetically desirable for his work. You can still be strong while being lithe. Think about dancers, for example.
Vil has also demonstrated in side content such as the Sunset Savanna hometown event and Beans Day that heâs able to take down opponents far larger than him using tactics besides brute force. This includes using his foeâs weight against them to toss them and acting gravely injured to make his foe cocky.
And now letâs revisit Skully! Iâd say he definitely doesnât LOOK bulky, whether in his art or in the live 2D model.
For the sake of argument, letâs say heâs hiding massive arms under his suit. But like⊠where exactly?
Unlike the sleeves we normally see, the Nightmare Suits are visibly stitched. They can only be so effective for holding together. Just looking at the artwork, it doesnât look as though Skullyâs arms are straining to be freed or pushing back against the seams.
Okay, so what if Skullyâs instead like Vil and has a lean frame that hides a surprising amount of strength? I donât really buy this either because no lore supports it. Vil trains extensively because his career demands it and he is a tenacious person. What reason does Skully have to keep in such shape? He isnât really described as an athlete or dedicated to health or something along those lines. Boy just LOVES Halloween. There isnât a clear lore reason why Skully would want to get (excuse me for the pun) jacked.
So yeah, thatâs why I donât believe Skullyâs secretly physically strong. Heâs literally just⊠lanky.

Today you're getting trivia dump on the musical Little Shop of Horrors because I'm considering getting a plant for my dorm. And my roommate is a theatre major so there is a greater than zero chance of me walking in on her singing to it. Let's begin!
The official description of Audrey II is "a cross between a venus flytrap and an avocado" that notably gains "shark-like aspect" when snapping at food.
A remake of the original film was in the works but went into dormancy in 2020 due to COVID. The remake was planned to have Taron Egerton as Seymour, Chris Evans as Orin (the dentist), Scarlett Johansson as Audrey, and Billy Porter as Audrey II.
The inspiration for the story came from H.G Wells short story The Flowering of the Strange Orchid , written in 1894, which was about a human-hungry plant. Roughly 40 years later, John Collier wrote Green Thoughts, a dark-comedy based off of Wells' work. Then, in 1956, Arthur C. Clarke wrote The Reluctant Orchid, which explored the more ominous side of the plant's intentions. The culmination of these works resulted in Charles B. Griffith's idea for The Little Shop of Horrors, which would be adapted by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken in 1982 into the musical.
The musical is frequently credited the first horror-comedy in the musical theatre scene.
Ashman and Menken also composed the music and lyrics for Disney's The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin.
The story is a satirical take on the common Faust Legend- the story of a man selling his soul to the devil. This trope is common for stories of greed and consequence.
The show is credited as the having been the 3rd longest running musical and highest grossing in off-Broadway production records.
Despite technically premiering on Broadway after running off-Broadway prior to 2003, the Tony awards determined the musical was eligible for the "Best Musical Revival" category despite never having been on Broadway previously.

WIP Update 5.27.24--Holiday Treats Edition
Hi-de-ho, tumblrs! It is Memorial Day Weekend here in the US, and I am spending the beginnings of the last day  of a 3-day weekend posting WIPs for the first time in what seems like forever!
And I have a lot of WIPs for you today; however, half of them DO NOT HAVE WORDS. Iâll make that up to you by posting extra-long snippets of the ones that do. Itâs gonna be a mixed bag, with the majority of these stories being ideas I am unsure popped in my brain or shot themselves out of my ass.
If you have ever read at least one of my WIP updates, you know the drill: all works are in very rough draft and a state of flux; published/posted works may vary. No promises on when anything will be posted, but everything is in an extremely active state of progress.
Everything is below the cut; please enjoy!
Rating is M for Mature because it's me
9 Days a Queen: Based upon the painting The Execution of Lady Jane Grey, and a crapton  of historical dramas, this is the story of the brief yet impactful reign of Queen Riley Brooks of Cordonia.
Object of Affection, Chapter 9: Hard Dayâs Night: The Mermaids are on the comeback trail!
Untitled KTAW fic: The suitor from House Theron takes a meeting with the Duke of Ramsford.
The Real Housewives of Cordonia: Lorelei and Hana: The RHOC will be a once-in-awhile series that will focus on a pivotal moment in the lives of the mother/mother-in-law and daughter/daughter-in-law of the ladies of my favorite gang. Except theyâre in Cordonia, Connecticut. Once completed, this will be my #HLAW submission.
Dolos: This fic is inspired by my absolute LOVE of Homeland, a now-defunct Showtime series. The subject matter may be triggering to some, so reader discretion is advised. FYI, Dolos is the Greek God of deception, craftiness, and treachery:
âExcept one player is notably absent. King Liam of Cordonia,â the host replied.
The visitor slowly lowered his fork. âYou have power players such as the United States, Britain, Canada, France ⊠Cordonia will hardly be missed.â
âYouâre either stupid or think I am,â the host retorted with the slightest edge to his tone. âCordonia is in the middle of this maelstrom and trying to play neutral. Which they cannot.â
âYouâre still not explaining why I am here with you.â
âKing Liam is half Auvernese, his bride is Hidaran. He will have to enter the fray, and when he does, he will be on the wrong side of history. There is a ⊠faction that is willing to ensure that doesnât happen.â
âTerrorist cells are forming a dime a dozen. It would seem to me that they would jump for joy at a wealthy country financing the winners.â
The host pushed away his plate, his eyes staring into mirrored lenses. âThere are no winners here. Itâs a complete suicide mission whoever enters the fray; the death of the Supreme One illustrates that. The fact is Cordonia will back the aggressors, regardless of how they spin it, and they have the money and resources to ensure both wars continue for years.â
The visitor lifted his teacup. âAnd?â
âWhile this is quite the distraction, other wheels are already in motion that need to be addressed now. In order for that to happen, funding must be cut and diverted. Already, the first-world countries are scaling back. There cannot be a fallback to take their place.â
The visitor sat his cup down, and leaned forward, his elbows on the table. âWhat are you saying?â
âKing Liam must be assassinated; the faction is offering $50 million US dollars to make it happen. Do you want the job?â
This Little Life (Versions Edit): Leo Rhys has died, and his wife and lover finally have the confrontation theyâve waited 20 years for:
Weâve spent the last two decades as an unassuming family living a quiet life in the town of Rury, located in Duchy Krona. When we were looking for a place to live, I argued returning to my home country of America, but Rury was my husbandâs motherâs birth town and seemed the perfect place to escape life in the royal limelight without changing continents.
Yet another compromise I made in the name of our relationship.
Leo spent the first half of our marriage fulfilling his motocross passions and rebuilding with his love, all while using me as a depository for his seed when things went sideways with the one who held his heart. I was essentially a single mother who had hit the child support lottery. I suggested several times we divorce; those were our worst arguments.
When Asher was three, my husband agreed we needed to settle down and focus on raising our family.
We purchased a large farmhouse that sits on the banks of Kingsman River. He used his savings to buy a local farm and construction equipment company that serviced all of Krona and Valtoria to save it from being sold to developers. With his charisma and leadership skills, he was the boss everyone wanted to work for.
Iâm Vice-President of Commercial Acquisitions for Cordonia Commerce, the nationâs largest financial institution, a position I was promoted to five years ago.Â
We were both active in our community: volunteering at local food banks, and participants in the Krona school system: book drives, bake sales, pestering neighbors and co-workers when it came to fundraisers, coaching soccer and track & field.
There were family dinners and vacations, Sunday feasts, road trips, and pizza nights.
We have four children: twin girls Hope and Joy, who are 19; our son Luca, 15; and our youngest, Asher, who is 13. I love each of them a little harder, hug them a little tighter, and kiss their cheeks a little more often, much to their embarrassment. But I canât help it; all of them were conceived in drunken indifference, my husband pouring his every misery into my waiting womb after arguments and rejections from another.
It's been a good life, filled with care, respect, and friendship. Honestly, Leo was my best friend. But there was no romantic love, no passion.
Because all we had built together as friends and co-parents, he was supposed to have with his lover, not with me.
I fasten my robe more tightly around my waist as I traipse downstairs; in the living room, reserved for company only, I push apart curtains and twist open venetian blinds. I frown at what passes for dusting in Lucaâs world before moving on past the family room where we binge television shows and celebrate holidays.
Iâm fine, Iâm fine, Iâm fine.
Finally, I am in the kitchen, the heart of our home. Arguments, homework, meals, birthday celebrations ⊠they all happen here.  I brew a single cup of the coffee my husband loved; itâs a dark roast from Comery Isle with hints of praline and coconut, which I douse liberally with sugar and cream.
Breakfast will be simple: slices of fried ham; tomatoes, eggs, and yesterdayâs rice; yogurt; fruit. I begin pulling dishes and pans from cabinets, food from the refrigerator; my body is rigid, my movements almost robotic. I silently count eggs as I place them in mixing bowl.
Routine, routine, routine.
But suddenly, I can no longer do anything, and I feel the bowl of eggs slip from my hands; I hear it crash against the hardwood flooring.
Grief for so many things overwhelm me, and I slide down a cream-colored wall to the floor, my eyes flooded with tears.
Iâm not ready to say goodbye.
Stormholt: Based upon Saltburn. That is all:
My orgasm erupts from the engorged head of my dick like creamy lava from a pornographic volcano. Ropes of seed spurt into the air only to splash back against my member and increasingly sticky hand. My hips thrust against air one last time, and I feel my body shudder.
If you knew Jesus, you wouldnât be doing that!
Rileyâs voice in my mind pushes the last vestiges of the sexual fantasy that awoken me away; with still- closed eyes, I try to calm my labored breathing.
My eyes open, and I study the intricate canopy above my four-poster bed while I lay still. Thereâs nothing on my agenda this morning except be rich, look good, and suntan: breakfast, workout, pool.
This is the life of the Lord of Stormholt Manor.
The semen and lube are beginning to congeal on my hand, and the tip of my cock feels gummy resting against my thigh. I sit up and shift to the side of the bed; I frown at the sight of sunrise coming through closed, sheer, crimson-colored curtains.
Itâs the color of fresh blood.
With the slightest twinge of guilt, I stand and push the drapes open with my clean hand before lighting a cigarette. I stare out the window, seeing my friends and lovers below. Thereâs Riley and the baby; Maxwell; Constantine. Regina is in the great room; she enjoys the view of the south gardens from the windows there.
My eyes fall on HIM; anger still roils my stomach at what he did to me.
Betrayal.
I turn away from them; I may or may not stop by to say hello. I begin heading into the bathroom, not bothering with the bed sheets; Gladys will change them. The house is quiet, but thatâs to be expected. Itâs only 7am; the day officially begins at Stormholt in exactly one hour.
I make short order of my morningâs hygiene; my outfit today will be robe and swim shorts. Iâm fastening the sash on robe as I make my way down an immense, window-lined hallway that is in serious need of dusting.
Doors are half-open to bedrooms that currently sit unoccupied. I give cursory glances inside them: beds neatly made, light coatings of dust on furniture, bloody light leaking through closed curtains. Photographs sit on night tables and dresser tops, faces frozen in time. Their eyes look into nothingness, and their lips smile into emptiness.

Goliath Spiny Shark
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Clade: Eugnathostomata
Clade/Class: Acanthodii
Order: Ischnacanthiformes
Family: Ischnacanthidae
Genus: Tyrannoselache
Species: T. polycanthus (âmany-spines tyrant sharkâ)
Temporal range: late Miocene to recent (7.7 mya - present)
Information:Â
T. polycanthus, better known to the natives of Xenogaea as horduuĆ/hĂłrduuĆ (/ËxoÌr.duËĆ/, âdreadâ) or mevoskaska/mĂ©voskaska (/ËmÉ.voÌ.ska.ska/, unknown etymology, likely of pre-Xenogaean substratic origin), and to Western scientists as the Goliath spiny shark, is unusual amongst the acanthodian family (a group of stem-chondrichthians [cartilaginous fishes] colloquially called âspiny sharksâ) for its sheer size: around 17-18 feet in length and weighing between 2.7-3 tons, the Goliath spiny shark is one of the largest known non-coelospondyl acanthodians ever discovered, practically rivaling the sizes of its distant shark cousins and with an attitude to match, nearly 100 times the size of its closest known relatives, making it an anomaly amongst its family, its size a mystery, especially amongst an already wide assortment of other large predators in its environment. However, the most commonly-accepted theory is that its ancestors adapted to life in the deep sea before eventually moving back to shallower waters, its size an atavism of its ancestorsâ deep sea gigantism. Nonetheless, despite its humble origins, the Goliath spiny shark is still a force to be reckoned with, being notoriously territorial and responsible for many sinkings of small boats and canoes. Like the sharks it is distantly related to, its method of killing prey, although gruesome, is highly effective: prey is usually pursued from below before the animal, with a sudden burst of speed, seizes it, propelling the both of them into the air as it violently shakes its prey to dislodge bite-sized chunks. An incredibly patient and persistent predator, it has been known to stalk prey for several miles, sometimes even propelling itself onto land to chase fleeing prey. Alternatively, prey may be flanked and rammed into from the side before a similar method of dispatching it is utilized. Speaking of prey, as a near-apex predator, the Goliath spiny shark is an opportunistic predator which hunts a wide variety of different prey items, both vertebrates and invertebrates alike. Though sea turtles and cephalopods appear to be some of its favorite prey, it has been known to eat pinnipeds, sirenians, small cetaceans, sea-monkeys/mermaids, small-to-medium-sized marine reptiles (namely plesiosaurs and ichthyosaurs), and several varieties of large reef fish and sharks, hybodonts, and other shark-like fishes. In areas where it shares its habitat with the mud tiger, the two species are known to occasionally prey on one another, and though never confirmed, great whites are notably absent from the areas where the Goliath spiny shark is found, suggesting either predation on young individuals or competition for the same food sources. Individuals living near the edge of the deep ocean may also sometimes venture out into deeper waters to pursue tuna. Scavenging is also quite common.Â
Found all across Archaeonesiaâs shallow seas, the Goliath spiny shark primarily stalks the waters around kelp forests and coral reefs, though it has occasionally been as much as 10 miles inland. Typically a nocturnal or crepuscular hunter, its eyesight is superb, with its sense of smell, although substantially better than a humanâs, being relatively rudimentary in comparison to sharks. Contrary to the stereotypes of sharks and their relatives being ram ventilators, the Goliath spiny shark is not, being able to remain perfectly still on the ocean floor while still being able to breathe, and it does so during the day to rest. While not necessarily gregarious, 2 or more individuals may occasionally work in groups to take down large prey, and cooperation with other large carnivores is also documented. Nonetheless, these animals tend to be territorial and generally do not take kindly to trespassers, chasing off crocodilians and mosasaurs which enter its territory and readily killing other large predators which enter its domain. Cannibalism is well-documented, with larger adults readily consuming subadults and juveniles who stray too close. Notably, however, it will abandon its hunting grounds entirely if large predatory placoderms show up (with the exception of the estuarine flatshark, which it is notably tolerant towards due to pursuing different prey animals), large mosasaurs, and orcas are spotted in its area. Exceptionally intelligent for a fish, it appears to some ability to solve rudimentary problems and seems to be able to way-find with great efficiency, memorizing landmarks or other pieces of the scenery and returning to these areas if hunts have proven successful there before. They also engage in what is believed to be playful behavior, nudging objects in their environment and reorienting them seemingly as a way to stimulate itself when not hunting. Its peculiar habit of arranging objects, namely stones and pieces of corals, in highly-organized patterns across its hunting ground, and its strong tendency to correct their positions when the waves or other animals move them out of place, has consequently earned it the affectionate (and somewhat humorous) nickname of the âOCD fishâ or the âautism fishâ in online spaces.Â
An exceptionally colorful large predator, it is covered in spotted and striped patterns all along its body of varying black and brown hues while its flanks are tan and its underside cream-colored, and during the spring and summer months, when these massive fish breed and when food is most available, the colors of the male will become all the more vibrant. Males will court a female by presenting her with a fresh kill, after which copulation begins. Goliath spiny sharks are internal fertilizers, the males utilizing a pair of modified pelvic fins called claspers to inseminate the female before the two part ways once more. Gestation is quite long, taking anywhere from 10-12 months. Unlike other acanthodians, the Goliath spiny shark is ovoviviparous, giving birth to around 2-4 pups. Cannibalism in the womb is known but does not appear to be common. Nonetheless, when the pups are born, they immediately flee to find cover, as the mother may eat her own young if they linger for too long. For the first decade of their life, they will slowly begin to reach full size, eventually moving out of the safety of the coral reef and into less obstructed waters, around 16-18 years old, they will reach sexual maturity. If all goes well, a young Goliath spiny shark can except to live between 50-60 years.
Both feared and revered by the Native Xenogaean peoples, this creature is seen as what is known as a so-called ârealm-walkerâ, a creature said to have the supernatural ability to cross between worlds. This ghostly ability to migrate between the celestial world, the world of the living, and the underworld means that it is regarded as, in some aspect, sacred and therefore untouchable, though its aggressive nature complicates this relationship. As such, it is seen to embody the force of nature itself, unpredictable yet majestic in nature. Amongst the Banguani, in lieu with their Polynesian culture, the Goliath spiny shark is seen as both a god in its own right and as an ancestral spirit, perhaps a unique example of the traditional Xenogaean and surrounding Austronesian folklores converging on a similar worldview. The Hachin people of the outer islands also view it as a minor death and ocean god called QxhĂłĂrĂ Ă (Hachin: /qÍĄÏoiË„.ÉŸaËË©/), a sentiment mirrored by the Hnipixe people of the western Isle of Perils, who see it as their version of the Draconic sea god, Angiosaa, whom they called DyehnyĂĂ-tkâĂčĂčxyap (Hnipixe: /Ée.ÉČÌiËË„.tkÊŒuËË©.çÉb/, âshark kingâ). It appears prominently in the traditional artwork of the Hnipixe as well, seen as an emblem of strength and courage. Alas, despite this animalâs ability to captivate the spirit of people across many cultures, attempts to export it to foreign aquariums have proven difficult, as its needs, although not impossible to meet, are rather fickle. On rare occasions, this species has been spotted outside of the Archaeonesian archipelago, with a relatively stable population believed to be inhabiting the waters immediately surrounding the outside of the border mountains. Reports of Goliath spiny sharks have also surfaced across parts of Remote Oceania, being sighted as far as Jarvis Island in Micronesia and being reported from French Polynesia as well. Granted, such reports cannot be confirmed, particularly when its general aversion to deeper waters, which it would need to cross to read such locations, are taken into account, but nonetheless, such stories of Goliath spiny shark sightings outside of their native Archaeonesia are commonly circulated amongst cryptozoological circles. With around 9,000 mature adults in the wild, its population appears to rebounding from a century-long decline, the cause of said decline being unknown but possibly related to disease. Fossil deposits of this species go back as far as the late Miocene some 7.7 million years ago.
