Here’s one for the headcanons prompts!

What would be everyone’s favorite modern pop-culture fandom?

Ok so this will be general interests/hobbies as well as a little bit of fandom, depending on each character!

Arthur is a jock. He follows rugby religiously I reckon (he's posh, posh jocks follow rugby or cricket, not so much football) but if his local/national team is playing he'll semi-obsessively check the scores for any sort of sport. He also has a shameful (or at least shameful to him) attachment to those big American Serial Dramas (think Criminal Minds, Supernatural, NCIS, Suits, Bones) which he binges.

Merlin has a billion different shows on the go at once. A show for every mood. He watches crime dramas and big American serials with Arthur, but if he's feeling dramatic or gritty it'll be something like Hannibal. If he's feeling like watching a show that's light hearted and fun it's Final Space or Gravity Falls. I also reckon he's pretty on it with books, he's read ALL the popular/important series (ACOTAR/A Song of Ice and Fire/Lord of the Rings/Hunger Games/Divergent/The Maze Runner, etc). 

Morgana is never even a day behind on fashion, but like... high fashion. She watches all the fancy important fashion shows live no matter the time of day and probably has some sort of incredibly highly respected blog dedicated to Awards Shows where she talks about what people wore. In terms of fandom, I think Morgana is into high fantasy literature. She’s read everything Tolkien multiple times. She’s also read all of Discworld and everything else Terry Pratchett (though her favourite is The Amazing Maurine and his Educated Rodents) has written. Modern fantasy isn’t really her thing though.

Gwen is always up to date on whatever is going on in the animal rights world. Any well informed protest that's less than a 4 hours' drive away? She's there. And normally dragging Merlin or Percival. (Morgana also sometimes mentions her efforts on her blog). She's not a vegan, but she is vegetarian and she gets all of her animal products (eggs, milk, etc) from locally sourced, thoroughly scoped out, independent businesses/farms. When it comes to fandom, she’s pretty into Disney. Not so much a fan of the live action remakes, but she does have a movie night at least once a month where everyone comes round with NO inhibitions to sing along to various Disney movies.

Gwaine is a gamer and he is not ashamed. But not like... a high tech gamer (that's Elyan, he has all the special gear and fancy speakers and headsets and stuff), he plays Minecraft and fortnight and steam games. He's an anonymous world champion or something stupid and no one in his personal life knows.

Percival is the Nerd of all nerds, but sci-fi is his thing. Doctor Who, Star Trek, Star Wars ("It's not a dichotomy guys, I can like both."), all of that. He has a list of comfort episodes that he re-watches religiously and has forced all his friends to sit through at least one binge session of something or other. He’s big into board games, he’s played ALL of them, and he DMs dnd every once in a while as well.

Leon is, and I can't believe I'm saying this, super into historical re-enactments. Everyone has seen one of his shows (they all find it dreadfully boring but it makes him happy so they all trundle along to his medieval fairs or whatever every once in a while). Specifically, he's a weapons buff. It may be the oddest hobby/interest in the group, but Leon can and will use a full on medieval style long sword with ease. He has successfully made a burglar piss himself scared at least once.

Instead of poker and cigars, Gaius does dnd and cigars. But also poker nights with his old buddies. But also he has a shameful attachment to some shitty soap like EastEnders or Coronation Street or Hollyoaks or something.

Mordred can not go one month without swapping hobbies and obsessions. He has like... a running list (that’s constantly being added to) of various fandoms/interests that he cycles through randomly, but he never stays on one for long. Overall he’s pretty creative, or at least he tries to be, but he’s a huge Nerd, like Percival, when it comes to movies and TV shows. Kiddo also has a semi-extensive comic book collection. Maybe not as many as a fanatic, but definitely more than the average person.

Lancelot is not an obsessive person because he’s a well-adjusted adult that has normal hobbies like going for walks and reading books and fanatically creating the most detailed artwork (based on his books) that has ever existed. Man has such a vivid imagination, it takes him weeks to read the shortest of books because his brain just... supplies him with images that he has to get out. He’s even been approached by a few authors/publishers asking for him to create book cover artwork. He sort of... accidentally makes money off of it? But that wasn’t his intention and he still has a hella boring day job. His friends keep telling him how good he is, but he’s one of those infuriating people who genuinely doesn’t recognise how talented he is.

favourite ships: ive read leon/mithian in some fics which i can see the potential for:D

notp: anyone older than 50, i cant really think of any ships i cant stand with leon??

random headcanon: i think leon writes a lot of poetry in his spare time and i think all of his poems are like. genuinely really good. like i think he’s a REALLY good poet and writes about all sorts of things like sunlight or cozy winter nights or horses or whatever. i think he’s absolutely DELIGHTED when he thinks merlin is teaching arthur poetry and once sought arthur out to share a favourite poem of his with arthur. i also think arthur indulged him bc he felt bad for lying and so it became like. a Thing every week, in which leon would share a new poem. and then he inadvertently became arthurs poetry teacher. 

general opinion: I LOVE LEON!!!! i think i sometimes forget how much i love him, but once i read a fic where he died and i just. i learned that i absolutely Would Not be able to handle that, so. there u go kljsflkjs

random headcanon: he once found an injured puppy (idk where/other logistics leave me alone) and took care of it/ nursed it back to health, and then literally could not leave it alone bc the puppy would follow him everywhere. i also think he got very attached to the puppy too and almost cried when he realized how large the puppy had gotten. i just think lance was some form of animal whisperer. with dogs, horses, cats. you name it. they all loved him and the dogs would sometimes knock him over bc they were so happy to see him:)

general opinion: lancelot is my favourite. i think it was a personal hate crime against me that he was in less than 10 episodes and i will never forgive the universe for it. i wish he would’ve stopped running& let gwen make her own decisions though

brotp: (w/...) merlin, the knights, arthur, gwen (i wish we saw more interactions), i think him and s1-2!morgana would’ve been great friends and very terrifying together.

random headcanon: i dont really remember his canon relationship with his sister, (IF HIM HAVING ONE IS EVEN CANON????) but id like to think that they exchange letters every once in a while where they insult each other a lot and the only reason he has a bit of a grudge against her is bc they made a bet once and he lost and she made him do a Very Embarrassing Thing That He Has Not Forgiven Her For And Never Will.

general opinion: i LOVE HIM. i wish we got more backstory on him. i simply think he deserves the world.

20. What is the purest ship in the fandom?

For Merlin:

Hmmm... when it comes to the most popular ones, I think none of them, because they all get complicated and dark to some degree. But on a platonic level, when it comes to friendships, I would go with Merwen, Merlance and Merwaine. Merlin and Gwen are delightful together, but I have a hard time shipping them romantically without Arthur, there is just no path forward for me there that does not involve him too, and that tips the dynamic into something much more complicated (but still happy for all three of them, I am so not down for jealousy and competition between Merlin and Gwen, Arthur has two hands and he can damn well use them). I also think that Lancelot’s love for Merlin was pure, but I just don’t ship it at all and think that there was never anything there except for friendship (I can see Arlance going sexual, though). The same goes for Gwaine, I think that he loved Merlin unconditionally, and as far as friendship goes, it is pure, but if I ship them sexually, then all purity goes out of the window, not just as far as the sex is concerned (because the sex they would be having would be positively filthy) but also because I just can’t imagine a universe in which Merlin does not love and desire Arthur more. The angst, the pain and the darkness are off the charts. 

As for the less popular ones, I think the purest is Percival/Elyan regardless of whether you see it as romantic or platonic. There is just so much mutual love, admiration and respect between them! No angst, no lies, no triangles, no drama, just taking care of and supporting each other and living in domestic bliss.

For The Untamed: 

WangXian, no contest. They fell in love as kids and continued to love each other for the rest of their lives, even beyond death. The way they love each other is so absolute and so selfless! They both respect and admire the other, they are so supportive and accepting of each other, quirks, flaws and all, and kind of set the gold standard as far as relationships go! 

7. Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?

I already answered this one yesterday, so I will just copy/paste it here, if that’s OK, because the answer hasn’t changed! 😅

For Merlin:

Okay, I am pretty much over this by now, but Gwaine. He was not only my favourite knight but also one of my favourite characters on that show, then that last episode happened with that mind-bending stupidity, and I was so mad, I was not even sad over his death. I couldn’t stand to look at him for a long time afterwards. I am mostly over it by now, lol, and I love Gwaine again, but I never rewatch DotD and I do my utmost best not to think about what went down with him in the finale. However, he never regained his no. 1 spot among the knights, that goes to Leon now, and he is sitting uncomfortably in no. 2. Sorry, Gwaine, there have to be consequences!

For The Untamed:

Jiang Yanli. I really felt for her in the beginning because all three of the Yunmeng siblings loved each other so very much and after meeting her awful mother, my heart went out to her! Also, I loved the rare occasions where she showed her lovely, shiny spine, so she was, for the most part, a very enjoyable character in spite of being the embodiment of one of my most hated tropes. However, her entire relationship with Jin Zixuan gets on my very last nerve and it totally spoiled her for me. I wouldn’t say that I can’t stand her, that is entirely too extreme, but I no longer find any enjoyment in her at all and there is no chance of that changing, considering that what’s left for her to do at this point is only to have her baby and die so that her death can trigger the final confrontation between her brothers. So, while I don’t hate her (I could never), she has been reduced from a character I empathize with to a plot device, and all my interest in her is just gone.
