“Baby! You almost ready?” You heard Jack ask you from the bedroom as you were in the bathroom trying to finish curling your hair.
“Give me five more minutes!”
Just then Jack came into the bathroom behind you and wrapped his arms around you and then leaned down to kiss you cheek which you gladly accepted.
“I’m not rushing you mamas, but you told me to give you five minutes twenty minutes ago. I could have been eating you out for all that.”
“Jackman! Behave!”
“I am behaving! We were supposed to meet up with everyone at 2 and it is now 3:15.”
“Pookie.” You said as you turned around to look at him since you had finally finished putting the last curl in your hair.
“Yes, princess?”
“How long have we been together?” You asked while placing your arms around his neck.
“Umm ten years.”
“And you know your wife is black, correct?”
“What? Where are you going with this?”
“Since when has my family EVER started anything on time? Trust and believe that my parents will be pulling up at the same time we do.”
“I-.....”
All you did was look at him and smirk as he was trying to come up with an answer for when your family had been on time for a function.
“Exactly. Now give me kisses so we can go.”
“Now, don’t start anything you can’t finish.”
“We’ll finish when we come back! Kisses please!”
Jack leaned down to place several kisses all over your face and you couldn’t help but laugh.
“Now it’s time to go see my favorite in-laws.”
“Jack, baby, they’re your only in-laws.”
“They’re still my favorite.” Jack answered you while shrugging before leading you both out of the bathroom.
The two of you were now walking hand-in-hand in Cherokee Park to the spot where your parents told you everyone would be. You quickly spotted them along with your grandparents, Dani, Drama, all of Private Garden since your parents considered them their sons, and a lot of your aunts, uncles, and cousins.
“It’s about time you two got here!” 2fo said while walking up to the two of you while eating with his plate in his hand.
“You know what they were probably doing! We actually started at 2:45 this time!”
“Shut up Urban! Or should I say Big Whore!” You exclaimed and he made a face at you.
“Hey! Don’t act up in front of company!” He responded and all you and Jack did was shake your heads.
“The princess took an hour curling her hair.” Jack muttered and you pinched his side.
“Jackman, don’t start.”
“It looks pretty on you though.”
“Aww, why thank you, baby.” You said while reaching up to kiss him.
“See? That’s the type of shit that made yall late in the first place.”
“AHHH! Is that my baby and my favorite son-in-law?” Your dad exclaimed while making his way over to the both of you. He quickly embraced you and then hugged Jack.
“HE’S YOUR ONLY SON-IN-LAW DAVID!” Your mother Ivy said and you couldn’t help but to laugh.
“Is that? Is that what I think it is?” He asked and motioned to the bottle of Hennessey in Jack’s hand.
“Of course, I know it’s your favorite.” He said while handing it over to him.
“Baby girl, keep him around FOREVER. Now I have to make sure your Aunt Cassie don’t see this. I know you two remember what happened last time.” He responded while eyeing the two of you.
“Daddy, I am so done with you.” You said as you simply shook your head and all Jack was doing was laughing next to you.
“Y/N! Why you always keeping Jack from us?!” Your Aunt Keisha asked as she quickly walked up to hug you both.
“Because yall are embarrassing and I can only take yall in doses. 2FO! THAT BETTER NOT BE THE CHEESECAKE MY MOM MADE FOR ME!”
“I SAW IT FIRST!”
“Not the white boy bringing the Hennessey to the black function.” Shloob said and immediately busted out laughing.
“I thought it was understood that he was just light skinned! He’s been around us since he was fourteen!”
“Wait, Jack’s white?” You heard your grandmother ask and you looked at her in disbelief.
“What the? Yes nana! My husband is white!” You said while laughing and shaking your head.
“Oh, I thought he was a rapper?”
“Jesus, have mercy. He is nana!”
“You know I heard that First Class song on the radio the other day. Maybe Jack can do a collaboration with him one day.”
“NANA, THAT IS JACK! THAT’S HIS SONG!”
“SINCE WHEN?!”
“I-... baby come on so we can get food because I CANNOT with them.” You said while grabbing his hand again and leading him towards the food.
The both of you made your way over to where your Uncle Julius was on the grill while you saw your Uncle Jason, the youngest of the triplets that your grandmother had making his way towards you.
“Oh shit.” Jack muttered because he immediately knew what was about to happen.
“Ignore him and maybe he’ll go away.”
“JACK! BABY GIRL! LONG TIME NO SEE.”
“Mm hmm.” Both of you said as your Uncle Julius simply handed the both of you plates and went back to flipping burgers.
“Aye! Let me hold something! I got yall the next time I see you! Oh wait, actually Jack lemme get them New Balances off your feet. Those the new 550’s ain’t they?”
“JASON! Get away from my babies and leave them alone! You always acting like a damn fool!” Your mom exclaimed while reprimanding her younger brother while you and Jack stifled a laugh.
“I just need twenty dollars! Oh better yet, Jack can I give you my mixtape? Been working on a few things.”
“Then get a job! And no he doesn’t want to hear your dried up crusty ass bars! You’re over 60! It’s time for jazz music now. The rap career as a goal ship has SAILED!”
“IVY, you always been a damn hater!”
The two of you piled your plates high before making your way over to your best friends and sitting down with them while your parents, sister, and Dani were at the opposite end.
Urban was currently talking to your younger cousin Demi while 2fo had gotten his fourth plate, Quiiso was talking to your cousin Cierra and you’ve been trying to hook them up for the longest, and Shloob and Ace went to go play basketball with your old ass uncles and put money up to see who would win.
“Now, Demi, go to your grandma Kat and ask her for an eight and give her this entire thing. Don’t short change her now. I’ll give you ten dollars when you come back.”
“Okay, be right back.”
“URBAN!” You exclaimed while shaking your head in disbelief.
“What?!?! Your grandma got some of the best weed I ever smoked in Kentucky! I’m not messing up this business deal.”
“I… I gotta agree baby.” Jack said as he took your soda can from you and opened it and slid it back since he knew you would have trouble doing it with your long nails.
“Yall are a hot ass mess and fit right in with my family.”
“OH LOOK! IT’S MY FAVORITE WHITE BOYS, JACK AND URBAN!” Your Aunt Marisa said while coming over to the table and all you could do was laugh.
At the other end of the table, your mom was watching the two of you with nothing but admiration in her eyes as the two of you were feeding each other and Urban was making gagging gestures before you threw a spare fork at him which hit him on the forehead.
“At least one of our kids had a successful marriage.” Your mother said as she eyed Dani and Drama.
“Mom, seriously?” Dani asked as she took another bite of her food.
“Yeah seriously and look how well she turned out. All thanks to me and your dad. Because if it was left up to you, she’d probably be doped up somewhere.”
“Now Ivy…” Your dad David started to say but all she did was shrug.
“Don’t Ivy me. She’s successful because of what we instilled in her and I damn sure will never let you two take credit for it. We raised her, not you.”
“I-...” Drama started to say but was immediately cut off by Ivy.
“Now don’t either of you start with me. I said what I said and you two need to come clean to her because I can already sense that this is about to turn into a shit show. Been telling you two that for years and now the girl is 24.”
“We will when the time is right.” Drama said while looking at them.
“There isn’t ever a right time but she needs to hear the truth and hear it from the two of you. And you know what this means right?”
“What? What does it mean?” Dani curiously asked while glancing at you and seeing you laughing at something Jack whispered in your ear.
“I highly doubt that she’ll ever forgive you two for this.”
Marisa was telling you her latest products that she was selling and Jack was listening to her intently while you were intrigued.
She’s been selling sex toys and anything that has to do with sex for as long as you could remember.
“So, it’s like the rose toy? Jack bought me that already.” You asked her and she shook her head no.
“No, it’s even better. Rose toy takes about what? Three to five minutes for you to hit your peak? I give this one two minutes and don’t let Jack be in you too, bitch you will see HEAVEN, okay?!”
“Now Aunt Marisa…” You said while trying not to laugh but Jack was all for it.
“How much?!” He eagerly asked and you looked at him like he was crazy.
“You’re my favorite nephew and niece so it’s on the house, just leave a good review for me. You two won’t be leaving the bed the entire night.”
“They don’t do that anyway.” Urban added as Demi came back up to him with his weed in her hand.
“Demi! My girl! Okay, here you go.” He said while handing her a ten dollar bill.
“Grandma Kat said the price went up but since you’re one of her favorite customers, she’ll keep the price the same.”
“Damn bestie, I love your family.”
“I do too even if they are a bit crazy.” You confessed.
The day was winding down and the sun was starting to set since it was now around eight and your father had gathered everyone around as he was sipping from his Hennesy bottle.
“Now Jack is my favorite son-in-law ever and baby girl, you aren’t allowed to marry anyone else, okay? We just had to make sure that was clear.” Your dad said while throwing his arm around Jack and you knew he was tipsy.
“I just wanted you two to know how proud I am of the both of you and that I admire the way he takes care of you and you do the same exact thing for him. I never worried about you growing up, but that Danielle? Whew, story for another day. Anyway, Jack you better not hurt my youngest and baby girl you better not hurt Jack, understood? Because you damn sure not moving back in with me. Whatever goes down between the two of you, you better fix it! No take backs Jack! You snuck and married her so now you’re stuck with her!”
“What the? DADDY!”
“And since you two finally got caught! Been married since you were nineteen!” Your mom exclaimed while eyeing the two of you.
“But that was URBAN! His fault!”
“I didn’t say I do like the two of you!” Urban said while sipping on his beer.
“Might as well had, since you are definitely a part of that relationship!”
“But on a serious note, we love the both of you so much and can’t wait to see the success that will come. The way you two love each other is evident in everything that you do and I know this marriage is meant to be.” Your mom said and the both of you went over to hug her.
“Appreciate you saying that, mom.” Jack said and all she did was nod and you knew for a fact that she was about to cry.
“Now… I want my grandbabies so get a move on!”
“I’m trying, but I swear your daughter is dodging me!”
“I am NOT!”
“Then let me get you pregnant!”
“Give me another year!”
“See what I mean?!” Jack said as he threw his hands up in disbelief and all you did was laugh.
Your Grandma Kat then came next to Urban and motioned for him to open his hand.
“Got another eight for you and don’t you go telling all my grandkids. I don’t like them the way I like you, Jack and baby girl. Tell them I’m out if they ask you.”
“If I was older we would have definitely been married. You stay looking out” Urban said while quickly slipping it in his pocket.
“If I was thirty years younger, I might just take you up on that. Just don’t let my husband hear you say that.”
“GRANDMA KAT! STOP TRYING TO SHOOT YOUR SHOT AT URBAN!” You yelled while looking over at them in disbelief.
“HE DID IT FIRST!”
“I do like cougars though. No shame in it.” Urban said while shrugging.
“Like I said before, all of you fit right in with my crazy ass family.”

slipping through my fingers - hughes siblings
warnings - mild language, mini angst & sadness (not everything will be accurate as it’s fiction lol), it is a very long fic and has two instagram edits as well
please listen with slipping through my fingers by abba <33
hey it’s me again. I sent you guys four tickets to graduation & I hope you guys can make it! mom & dad already told me they could make it, and q said that he is flying in for it. I hope you three can make it! it would mean the world to me— please…. I’ll talk to you soon j! love ya— bye.
❀☻ 𓆉☼ ✿
college graduation.
the one thing that y/n had been dreading since she started at umich…. leaving. home was here. so many good memories here, as well as meeting her bestest friends & boyfriend. but it was time to go— and it just felt like
time slipped away from her.
she was glad that she was convinced by q to come here, and then got to share some of her college years with her twin brother luke. y/n always felt like she was forgotten by her siblings as she didn’t excel at hockey and that she was a girl. they loved her, and she loved them— but the distance between them was enough for her to feel like she didn’t get enough time to grow up with them. she wanted to not stand in their way, but still cheer them on. so, when quinn— her oldest brother convinced her to go to umich instead of boston college, she felt seen. she felt even more seen when luke — her own twin was petitioning for her to go to college with him.
“cmon sis— we can take on the world from ann arbor together! come with me!!” luke pleaded at the family dinner table as ellen gave her daughter a “it’s up to you, scholarships have been coming in for you for years to go to anywhere you want sweetie. lu is going for athletics— and you are our ms. academics! that would be amazing but you know that it is your choice, honey.”
“okay lu on just one condition……. don’t push me away.” she told her older brother she got tackled into a bear hug from the side.
“YES!! 3 to mich baby!!!” q yelled as her two older brothers got up and joined the hug.
“guess I’m the odd one out now…” jack joked as he saw y/n’s smile grow bigger by the minute.
“I love you hockey idiots.” she said as she meted into her older brother’s hug.
y/n got to be his cheerleader sister for the two years as became one of the greatest young players in college hockey. her friend group intermingled with his— and she even had a thing with his friend mark estapa for awhile. until they all left after their sophomore year, as expected. they had big nhl contracts & big bucks coming in. no one was more proud than y/n of her boys, she bought all of their jerseys, went to as many games as she could all while being in school.
❀☻ 𓆉☼ ✿
junior year started and she had earned an internship for the red wings. a dream come true as she has always wanted to be in the hockey industry some how. it felt as it was a birthright that she started to fulfill. y/n was on cloud 9 when she called her dad and said that she had started with the red wings as an intern assistant pt to the head physical therapist to the red wings organization. her parents were ecstatic as they knew how important it was to her.
on one of the first games, she met him— simon. he had came into the locker room with a bad shoulder injury during a game while y/n was “on deck” aka waiting for someone to give her someone to work on. he came in with a bloody nose and a out of place shoulder— and changed her whole life.
“hey— you think that you can fix this and we can go out some time?” he asked her as she looked to the side to see him smirking at her with a little bit of blood on his nose still. she had only met him 20 minutes ago and he was asking HER out.
“maybe— we still need to get this blood off. my brother may add some if he knew though.” she joked as they both laughed. she was nervous. guys aren’t normally like this to her without knowing her family.
“I think you will be worth the risk, ms dr in training hughes.” he winked and put the ice pack back on his nose.
“hughes? you know who I am?” she questioned stupidly as he smiled at her. he looks down to her name tag that says “y/n hughes— physical therapy & sports medicine assistant” with the red wings logo on it & her little flower doodles. her eyes look down to her name tag— and she feels herself turning pink.
“right— my name tag. duh.” she says laughing off her awkward question as she turns to grab some k-t tape for his shoulder.
her back was turned as he started “of course— but that’s not how I know you. I saw you on draft night on tv. luke was no.4 overall and I was no.6. I followed you on instagram after that. I thought you were cute, despite all of the hockey glory family & scary older brothers to go through. you seemed so sweet & cared a lot about hockey. I just didn’t know I’d actually get to meet you…..” simon semi ranted as y/n turned bright pink at his words.
she turned around and he saw her turn pink, and he smiled at it. she was cute, in a way that was different from the rest. the compassion & intelligence radiated from her making her stand out in a way that caught his eye.
“okay— one date edvinsson. but first let’s get your shoulder back in place & get you healed up.” y/n said in return of his semi rant as she quickly popped his shoulder back in. she kept him company for the rest of the game, getting him more ice water as they talked & watched the game. it was relaxing, the pair got to have a calm moment in their “stressful” lives.
he didn’t care who she was the sister of— or what family she was from. he was a genuine, caring guy who wanted to be with her. she loved him— she loved everything about her life when he stepped— ran into it with his injury stunt that night. date after date, their relationship went from flirtatious friends to a private but secret relationship. no one knew who got them whipped— but each other.
❀☻ 𓆉☼ ✿
the rest of junior year flew by, as well as her internship with the red wings. at the end of the season, after a great time she was promoted from an intern to a part time assistant for the red wings in her department. summer came & she spent most of it at the lake w/ simon. her parents loved him, and her brothers had no idea of her relationship yet due to the fact they have had summer hockey and couldn’t come home. again, she felt that time slipped away as her brothers wouldn’t even call any more, or text her to check up on her like she did to them.
one night at the lake, the university called & told her that after she graduated that she would have a guaranteed spot for their graduate program, which would have hours for her to go work for the red wings. simon was sitting next to her, trying to watch his girlfriend’s odd expressions on the phone.
“yes— thank you! thank you so much. I cannot wait to sign. alright — see you in a few weeks then!” y/n then quickly hung up, looking over at her confused boyfriend. they were sitting on the dock as she got the call.
“who was that? signing? I’m confused.” he asked her as she leaned over to kiss him happily.
“guess who’s becoming a wolverine again! and a redwing!” she said ecstatically as simon jumped up.
“WHAT?!” he said excited as she jumped up and hugged him tightly.
“yeah!!! I got the graduate program spot & it will let me go part time with the red wings now— this is it!” y/n told him as he spun her around.
“my girlfriend with her big girl job & big girl graduate school!! I’m so proud of you baby. you deserve the world!!” he told her as she started to tear up.
“I— I love you so much si— thank you for being here.” she told him as they held hands walking back up to the house so she can tell her parents.
“always my love. always. are you going to tell your brothers? or just your parents?” he questioned as they walked up the dock.
“just my parents. I’ll wait until I get closer to graduation to tell the boys about my new job & graduate school. I still got a season left as a intern so—“ y/n trailed off as simon stopped her.
“hey— you got time. they are going to be happy for you regardless.” simon told his nervous girlfriend as they walked in the door. “go— celebrate. I’ll be here.” pushing her to go to the dinner table & tell her parents. he watched from behind the corner as she told her parents, taking a few pictures as the moment went on.
it’s like he was freezing the special moment for her in time
❀☻ 𓆉☼ ✿
november came and it was only a month away from graduation. y/n's university life was full of having its "lasts" while simon was cruising through the beginning of the season. he would try to come to her senior banquets if he was off, but y/n knew that the thought counts if he couldn't attend. simon was nervous about it because she knew how her brothers were with her, the stories he has listened to about the hughes brothers ignoring their baby sister. he wanted her to feel loved and he engaged in everything he could for her.
two weeks from graduation; y/n relooked up the graduation date in correlation to her brother's hockey schedules and of course, they didn't line up anymore. she knew that they weren't going to put the effort in to show up, but she still sent a voicemail.
and of course, she waited every day for a call or text back from at least one of them. she would call her mom every day, asking how her and her dad were doing, as well as asking about the boys. nothing on the boys, but at least her parents agreed to come to her college graduation.
she felt like shit the week before graduation, sick with stress. simon was truly worried about his girlfriend, and he couldn't even worry about his stress.
graduation day came and y/n's stress turned into bliss when she was handed her diploma. she couldn't see her group in the crowd, but she could feel the love. simon was sitting with her parents and grandparents in the crowd.
simon sat next to ellen as ellen called frantically all day to get in contact with her sons. again, no answer. "I swear I talk to y/n more than those boys." she told simon and simon tried to laugh it off.
"yeah, y/n knows more about the boys through their insatgram posts than anything else." he tells his future in law as she looks at him, dumbfounded.
"si-- what?" she questions almost angrily. "did y/n never tell you?" he asks as the whole hughes family starts to listen in. "she hasn't actually talked to any of the boys since junior year. they ignore all of her texts and calls, she didn't see them when they would come to detroit......" he continues on and ellen puts the pieces together in her brain. her boys have completely ignored their baby sister, so y/n would always check up on them through her.

three ish months later.......
hey, it’s y/n. I’m calling and I know you wouldn’t have answered me— but I’m engaged! I just called to tell you and jack because I already sent a voicemail to q. I love you both & I hope that you can call me or facetime me soon. but if not— I’ll see you when I see you. or if I even see you. bye, lu lu.
another phone call was unanswered and sent to voicemail by her siblings. all she wanted was for them to answer or even just acknowledge their existence. she didn't know why she had been exiled, nothing on simon's & hers relationship was out, she was still at umich -- nothing was adding up. but all three of her older brothers were ghosting her. she felt like they were slipping away from her, but this time -- they truly were.
being engaged and working for the same team as your fiancee was tough for y/n. papers were to be signed, and contracts were to be renegotiated, but everything worked out in simon's and y/n's favor. the rest of the year went smoothly, and playoffs came quick enough. the devils were in and the canucks as well as the redwings were out of the playoffs. meaning the whole hughes family went to new jersey to see jack and luke play. y/n told simon that he could come, and ellen encouraged it. so, the future edvinssons with the hughes parents went to new jersey for the first round.
———-
the airport was awkward as they met quinn there, and then waited for jack and luke to pick all of them up. quinn had grown up significantly since the last time that y/n had seen him in person. his beard was grown out, and he grew into the levelheaded defensive player that the canucks needed and wanted as a captain. his face tensed when he saw his little sister with his family, and a tall blonde man. he had no idea why his mother had that face on.
"hey, how was the flight?" quinn asked his family as he dropped his stuff next to ellen's, engulfing her into a hug. a hug which she reciprocated but then as she let go, she grabbed her eldest son by ear, tugging him to his little sister. y/n and simon stifled a laugh as ellen dragged him to them.
"quintin jerome hughes! I am livid at you and your brothers! ignoring your sister for THAT LONG?!? unacceptable, you are not children anymore." she said as she dropped him off right in front of the couple.
quinn was facing downwards, meaning his eye level was at his little sister's hands, meaning he saw that ROCK on her finger. his head whipped up so fast it almost gave him whiplash. eye to eye, quinn got a good look at his baby sister who was not a baby anymore. she was beautiful, and he had no idea how much time passed until he saw that rock on her finger. "you're engaged?" he questioned her lightly, almost out of breath because he couldn't BELIEVE that his BABY sister was engaged, let alone in a relationship.
"yeah, if you would pick up your damn phone you would have gotten MULTIPLE things from me over the past two years, quintin." she spat back. he was shocked at her anger, but not fully surprised by it. he looked over to her left to see him. the man who stole his little sister's heart, simon edvinsson. he knew who he was as they were both defensemen, as well as luke. they were always in the articles together.
"you're marrying a hockey player, y/n? that's pretty low of you." quinn told her as he watched her face drop.
"unlike you quinn, he actually has time and cares for me. he has ALWAYS been there, unlike some hockey players I know." she tells her older brother, and she laughs at the end. "oh speak of the devil and they shall appear. simon, meet my other two asshole brothers, luke and jack." she pats his shoulder as quinn turns around to see his other brothers.
"hey what's up -- who's the guy y/n?" jack questions as ellen starts to walk over to her other two sons.
"you two are in serious trouble. how could you ghost y/n like this? for this long? unacceptable." ellen says grabbing them both by their ears for a moment and then letting them go.
"boys, meet simon, y/n's fiancé. y/n, go order an uber for you and simon, please." jim asks them and they nod.
"c'mon babe." she says lightly, grabbing their stuff and heading to the uber terminal.
"they aren’t mad, are they?" simon asks, holding her hand. "not at you my love, but a hughes family talk will be done and hopefully my dumbass brothers will realize what they have done wrong." she tells her fiancé.
———-
a day later and its game day. y/n and simon waited until the game to see everyone (so aka the boys could get their shit together). ellen texted y/n that the boys would need to explain it to her. so, like any good sibling, she met them before the game. bright and early at 8am so they could have a good talk. she met them by a coffee shop near the rink, just a simple brunch spot where it should be fine to talk. or so she thought.
all three boys were sitting at a table when she walked in. she was wearing a monochrome black and red outfit, her brunette hair in curls. she had developed a nice look since they last saw her in person. she was glowing, and looked so much like their mom. she smiled softly at them as she sat down.
“did you order yet?” she asked them politely as they all had coffees in front of them.
“no but we did get coffee, I got you a vanilla latte.” luke told his twin sister as he scooted it next to her.
“thanks luke.” she thanked him.
the waitress came over and took their orders, and then it was silent again. jack cleared his throat and quinn took a drink of his coffee. y/n kept looking down at her rings, fiddling with them. it was awkward, all of the hughes siblings were in a way — but especially now.
“you want to start?” quinn asked his younger sister as she looked up.
“yeah. what the fuck.” she stated bluntly as she took a sip of her iced latte. “how, why, when. I want to know everything. I have done everything right. I have no idea what I have done wrong. do you even know how you made me feel? all of you? I have always felt like the outcasted sibling and you all have made it worse over this period of let’s ignore y/n time.” she ranted as she watched all of their faces turn.
“look y/n with everything going on—“ quinn started as y/n bluntly cut him off. “quintin do not fuck with me. I work for an organization in the league and I’m engaged to a player. I know how your schedules work, I keep up with both of your teams on top of the redwings’, and simon still makes time for me. so, do not bullshit me if you guys say “I’ve had no time” or “we didn’t want to bother you.” she told them straight as their food came.
the tension was thick between the four of them. y/n couldn’t even eat, she just stared and drank her coffee.
“we thought you needed space okay? we thought you wanted to be your own person and we are sorry. we made a promise to each other to all back off and not be the overbearing brothers that we were for the past 20 years. I regret it I do because look at you now. graduated, big girl job, engaged?! I regret missing these milestones of your life y/n.” jack says sincerely which made her choke up.
“I’m sorry too y/n, as a twin I have been horrible. I broke our promise of not pushing you away. I wanted to let you have your umich experience on your own for the past two years but I would do anything to go back and tell myself how stupid our idea was to give you space. I love you, I love you sis. I am happy that you got to do what you have always wanted career wise — and honestly, even relationship wise. I haven’t fully met him, but my friends in the league say he is a pretty good guy.” luke rants heartfully as he grabs y/n’s hand.
at this point y/n is looking at a with tears in her eyes. she has always been closest to quinn. seeing his baby sister look at him like she used to when they were toddlers makes his heart ache. how could he be so stupid, how could all of them be so stupid.
“you— you slipped though our fingers, y/n. and I’m sorry. I’m sorry that I wasn’t there for graduation, I’m sorry I wasn’t there to buy your first legal drink like I said, I’m sorry for not answering your calls, I’m sorry that I didn’t try harder. you’ve grown up without us for the past two years and I fucking regret it all. I missed hearing your voice and seeing you at games or in our gear. I’m guilty for pushing you away but I’m not guilty about it if that means you got to get your dream job and dream job because we weren’t standing in your light anymore. I love you. we have missed having our little dancing queen in our life, sis. will you take us back?” quinn stutters out and y/n is full on crying in her pancakes.
“I love you boys. I hated that you left — simon hated that you left. but if that means I would get you back again then I would let you do it to me all over again. you are my brothers and I would nev—never not want you in my life. I am still mad but I have worked past it. I love you three to death. luke, jack — lets get you playoff ready, yeah? ice cream?” y/n tells them as they both smile.
quinn is looking at the two boys and their eyes are lit up like christmas. the boys get up and hug their sister tightly and quinn goes to pay the bill. luke and jack lead the way to the ice cream shop down the way, and quinn & y/n follow.
“so, you really love him yeah?” he lightly hits y/n’s shoulder as she blushes.
“yeah I do quinny, he means everything to me.” she mumbles softly as quinn wraps his arm around her shoulder.
“as long as he makes you happy, we approve — but sis; you do know he will still have to pass the hughes brother tests right?” quinn jokes to her as they both laugh.
“simon is up for it if you guys are, but my man is a 6’6 goon so be careful.” she jokes as they meet them at the ice cream shop.
“morning ice cream before playoffs, just like old times when you’d drag us in michigan.” jack tells his younger sister as they make their way to the counter.
“good habits die hard, jacky. time may have slipped but I’m still the same.” she tells him as she orders a mint chocolate chip cone with extra rainbow sprinkles, just like she did as a kid.

since the hughes sibling talk, the hughes family & simon watched every single devils playoff game together, as a family. the devils went all the way to the stanley cup finals, everyone was ecstatic for it as luke & jack were not having record breaking seasons. y/n was happy to be there in person to see her brothers shine. she missed it. but she was even happier to see her brothers get along with her fiancé, especially quinn. simon and quinn bonded fast as they watched all of the games, side by side.
two years ago, if she told herself that her brothers would be back in her life and being on good terms with her fiancé, enough to even be civil while watching the cup together - she would have laughed. now…. she can’t imagine it any different. time slipped by and the hughes siblings grew apart, but not even time can break the bond of the siblings. it just grew stronger.
if y/n knew that this would be the outcome of growing apart from her siblings — she’d let it all happen again; in a heartbeat.

okay controversial opinion. i know everyone loves baby jack and finds it really cute and admittedly i even get a laugh out of it sometimes but i just. its too much. like its become mainstream headcanon and if u dont like it ur an outlier. i just love jack how he is! i see so many baby jack posts but im happy with regular jack and the relationship to tfw that he already has. also get very sad when ppl cut sam out of the dadsticule :( hes jacks dad too, he was the first of tfw to look out for him (not counting before he was born) and i just think he deserves equal credit as the deancas dads
I get what you mean, sometimes a headcanon becomes so popular that when you don’t agree with it you are pushed to the sidelines, at least that’s how it feels when you see that headcanon everywhere, and I know that feeling quite well :p
But personally I love baby Jack and the possibilities he brings (and I would pay money to see how the widower arc would actually look like if he didn’t age up immediately) and I think the character deserved to have a happy childhood so I also love the idea of Jack just de-ageing into a toddler in the end so Cas has a chance to be a dad <3 But it’s totally okay to not like it, no one is obligated to like every idea tumblr destiel edu comes up with!
As for Sam, I think I will give you even a more controversial thought because as much as I am not a Sam girl, one thing is true (ohhhhh I am going to be crucified for that): he is not only as much of a dad to Jack like Cas and Dean, like you said. He is more. He doesn’t deserve equal credit as Dean - he deserves more than Dean (and i am saying this as someone who doesn’t really care about sam but you have to give it to him because it’s true). Sam was the first one to care about Jack when Dean was grieving and defended Jack from Dean’s anger. Even in season 15 Dean says ‘Jack is not family’ and ashjfgshdh no matter if you blame it on Chuck or the writers, fact remains that Sam never said anything like that about him. If anything, Cas is Dad #1, Sam is Dad #2 and Dean is the alcoholic uncle (and I say it as a terminally deancoded person).
(send me your unpopular/controversial spn take 👀)
#not that long time ago i saw a fic that said that baby jack's first word would be 'dean' and i almost screamed#of course zero hate towards the writer this is not a vague or anything i am just giving my thoughts#but i almost screamed because dean doesn't deserve that at all sorry not sorry#i am right there with you for baby jack truthing but baby jack's first word is 'dad' to cas and that's it#ask#anon#unpopular monday#i knoooow it's saturday but this is the tag okay#Anonymous

Can I request 42 & 43 from the fluff list in prompt 2? Is it possible to include the team as well? So much love for you and your work!
Of course friend <3
The prompts are "she's worth the wait" and "For her, I'll do anything" (I re-worded the second one slightly)

Words: 1.3k
Warnings: mentions of labour, but absolutely no detail. Just pointless fluff.

Aaron tries to be quiet as he walks back into Emily’s hospital room, gently pulling the door closed behind him in case he disturbed the peace the room had fallen into just before he left. So different from the organised chaos of just an hour ago, their daughter’s first cries filling the room, shortly followed by Emily’s tears. Relieved and overwhelmed in equal measure when she saw her baby for the first time.
He smiles when he looks over at the bed, the infant tucked under Emily’s hospital gown, her head under her chin. Emily had a hand securing the baby to her, and the other running up and down her back in random patterns, her voice soft as she spoke quietly.
“Hey.” Aaron says, unable to stop the smile that spreads over his face when she looks up at him, her own joy not diminished by her exhaustion.
“Hi.” She replies, “she’s asleep.”
He walks over to the bed, settling on the edge of it as he kisses Emily’s cheek. “She looks so much like you.” He says, the same thing he had already said countless times in the very short period of time since the little girl had been born.
Emily smiles indulgently at him. “Did you manage to speak to everyone?”
“I spoke to your mother,” he replies, chuckling at her when she grimaces, “I’ve held her off until we get home. The team too.” He feels the tension leave her body, the way she relaxes at not having to see anyone else yet. “Not sure who tried to argue with me more, your mom or Garcia.”
She laughs at that. “My money is on Pen.” It was something she’d decided early on, that she didn’t want an endless parade of people in the hospital in the couple of days she’d be there. She’d rather be in the comfort of her own house, the place her daughter would call home. “And Jack?”
“He was already asleep.” He answers. “But I spoke to Jess, and she’s bringing him here first thing in the morning.”
“Good.” She replies, turning her attention back to the baby as she snuffles against her. “I miss him.”
Aaron watches as she shifts and grimaces again, although this time it was nothing to do with the mention of her mother.
“Are you ok?”
She rolls her eyes at him. “Aaron, I just gave birth.” She says wryly. “You were there. Our ridiculously adorable daughter is asleep on me.”
“I just want to make sure you’re ok.” He replies, running his knuckles down her cheek. “You were in labour for a long time.”
That felt like an understatement. Well over a day had passed since she first told him that her contractions had started for real this time, the hours all lost and blended together as he held her hand through it all. Only taking a quick nap when she insisted he did, the stress of seeing her in so much pain clear on his face.
There were a few moments in Aaron’s life that he knew he would remember forever. The best and the worst things that had ever happened to him intertwined into his very being, making him the man he was today. The first time he’d seen his father truly angry, his frustration bleeding out into more than words. Meeting Haley and losing her, twice. Jack’s birth. Falling in love with Emily and then marrying her, and now this. Watching their daughter be born, the look on Emily’s face when she saw her for the first time. It would forever be a part of him, something he could hold on to when the monsters inevitably came knocking.
“She’s worth the wait.” Emily says softly, keeping quiet so she doesn't disturb the tiny baby sleeping on her chest, still revelling in the feel of her daughter finally pressed against her skin. Something she had been looking forward to since the moment she found out she was pregnant. She traces her finger over the dark, soft, hair on the baby’s head as if she was mesmerised by it.
Aaron smiles at the sight of them together, affection flooding through his body so fast it almost makes him light headed, making him grateful that he’s sitting down. He doesn’t remind her that she’d cursed at him when he said the same thing to her during her labour, knowing now wasn’t the time. That he’d let her call him every name under the sun for the rest of their lives now, even more in awe of her than he had been before.
She found new ways to make him fall in love with her every day.
“I am so tired.” Emily says, her eyes closing as she leans back against her pillow. “I didn’t know it was possible to be this tired.”
“I can take her,” Aaron replies, kissing the side of Emily’s head. “Let you get some sleep.”
She briefly tightens her hold on the baby, and he doesn’t take offence. Something he learned during Jack’s first days of life, when he’d misinterpreted Haley’s reluctance to let go of him as mistrust.
Emily looks away from their little girl and up at him, a slightly sheepish look on her face. “This is going to sound insane,” she says softly, “but I think I’ll miss her.”
Aaron smiles at her and kisses her. “That’s not insane sweetheart, it’s perfectly normal. But you need some sleep. And we’ll be right here, just sitting in that chair over there.” He says, tilting his head towards the armchair next to the bed, only a few paces away.
She nods, turning to kiss the top of the baby’s head before relinquishing her hold, letting him lift her from her chest. She smiles as she watches him wrap her in a blanket before he settled down, their daughter looking impossibly tiny against his chest. Small and safe in her father’s arms.
“You look good holding a baby.” She says, her eyes already drifting shut as she settled further into the bed, pulling the blankets up around her. “Really good.”
“Calm down, sweetheart.” He jokes, “you’re off limits for at least 6 weeks.”
Emily scoffs. “If you think I’m having sex with you anytime soon, you have another thing coming.” Her words slur together, her eyes clearly heavy as she can’t keep them open.
“Go to sleep, love.” He says, and his only response is a hum, and he knows she’s lost her fight with falling asleep. He looks down at his daughter and smiles, kissing the top of her head. “Mommy’s silly, but it’s only because she loves us so much.” He says softly, keen to ensure Emily stays asleep. “And I love her too. And you, and your big brother. I’ll do anything for any of you.”
He sits there for close to an hour, telling the sleeping baby about anything and everything. About all the people that already loved her. About the nursery he and Emily had argued over for months, finally getting a contractor in to do it for them just a month ago. She stirs eventually, her tiny fists stretching out as she squirmed slightly, her squawking cries starting quickly, making her displeasure at being awake clear.
“Oh I know, sweetheart,” he says softly, rocking her gently, “Mommy doesn’t like waking up either.”
“I heard that.” Emily says, and when he looks up she has an eyebrow raised at him, but a wide smile on her face. “Now bring me my baby.”
Aaron does as he’s asked, walking back to the bed as if he was carrying the most precious thing in the world. He sits with Emily as she feeds the baby, the little girl relaxing almost as soon as she is back in her mother’s arms, and he doesn’t think he’s ever been happier.

The Right Chapter 27 || Aaron Hotchner x Fem Reader
Hello my loves! Just a reminder that this chapter is posting from the queue as I am on vacation--- I will be checking in periodically but less active than usual and not updating the tag list! Hope y’all enjoy this one :)
Read previous chapters of this fic here!
contains: food mention, hangover mention, discussion of parenting, canon-typical mentions of violence
wordcount: 2k
When you woke up the next morning, you’re somewhere between completely refreshed and wickedly hungover. You need a bacon egg and cheese on an everything bagel and a big cup of coffee stat if you are going to get anything at all done today. Aaron, of course, must have gotten up hours ago, and has long past left the bedroom by the time you rise at nearly 11. When you roll to get out of bed, you notice that he’s left you advil, water, and a sleeve of saltines just in case you were feeling nauseous. You smiled, sitting up gingerly to sip at the water and take the pills. Once you were sure your stomach was fine, you slid out of bed and found Jack and Aaron in the kitchen, cooking up bacon and frying eggs while The Beatles played in the background. The boys hadn’t noticed you yet, and you decided not to call attention to yourself-- taking the moment to commit this mental image to memory, of Jack on his father’s hip, Aaron rocking back and forth as he pushed scrambled eggs around a frying pan, smiling and giggling and not thinking about work or serial killers or the next time he’d be pulled away.
When the song fades out, Aaron looks up, seeing you leaning against the doorway to the hall.
“Good morning, sleeping beauty. How are you feeling?” He asks, looking you up and down for signs of a hangover.
“I’m okay. I’ll be better after breakfast,” you tell him. “And a big hug from my favorite Hotchner!” You add, crossing the kitchen and taking Jack from his father, shooting Aaron a knowing glance that said “I’m pretty sure physical therapy didn’t clear you for that. Especially not after last night.”
“I cracked the eggs. There’s no shells in them, Mom.” Jack says, and the world stops. He doesn’t even seem to notice that he’s slipped up, but Aaron and you both freeze, whipping your heads to look at each other with equally bewildered glances.
“I’m sure you did a great job, buddy!” You tell Jack, after a moment that feels like hours, not wanting to ignore him but not quite sure how to address what had happened, and Aaron wasn’t being much help.
“Breakfast is ready,” Aaron says, handing you exactly what you needed-- a bacon and egg sandwich, along with a hashbrown, some fruit, and a big cup of coffee.
“You might be the perfect man.” You tell him gratefully, and he smirks at you as the three of you sit down at the table and eat.
You and Aaron make casual conversation for a little while before Jack poses a question. “Dad, can we take my kite out today?” Jack asks as he spears a sausage link on his fork.
“It’s not really windy enough to fly a kite today, buddy, but we can go for a bike ride or play some soccer if you want,” Aaron responds before taking a sip of coffee.
“And we’ll all go?” Jack asks, looking across the table at you.
“Of course,” you tell him. “We’ll all go to the park with you.”
“Okay. Can I be excused?” He asks, and Aaron nods.
“Go ahead, just make sure you wash your hands and your face. You’ve got syrup everywhere,” He chuckles, and Jack scoots out his chair and leaves the table.
As soon as Jack is out of eyesight, you speak up. “So, are we gonna talk about that, or what?” You say in a hushed tone, not wanting Jack to overhear.
“I didn’t tell him to do that,” Aaron says.
“Neither did I,” you assure him.
“Are you upset?” Aaron asks, a furrow in his brow that just about broke your heart. Silly, silly man.
“No, of course not. Not if you aren’t.” You assure him.
“I just… he can’t forget Haley. He’s all that is left of her.” Aaron says with a deep sigh, and your eyes well up in tears.
“No, Aaron, he hasn’t and he won’t. We won’t let him.” You say, reaching across the table to squeeze his hand. “And if you don’t want him to call me Mom, I understand.”
“That’s not it. It’s just… bringing a lot up for me, is all.” He says.
“That’s normal, honey. You should think about it for a while, maybe talk about it just with him. No matter what you decide, you’re not going to disappoint me or him. But it’s okay to need some time with this.” You say, standing up to wrap your arms around his shoulders from behind, pressing a kiss to the junction of his shoulder and his neck.
“Thank you, for understanding me and for respecting her.” he tells you, raising one hand to cover yours where they met over his heart, craning his neck to leave a kiss on your wrist.
“Baby, have you seen my phone?” You asked, realizing that you haven’t checked it all morning.
“It’s charging next to mine on the bedside table. You were having a little trouble with the charger when we got in last night,” he chuckles at the memory of your drunken antics from the night before.
You go into the other room to grab your phones, noticing that you have two missed calls from Penelope--- you only just missed her. You dial her back as you head back towards the kitchen to help Aaron clean up.
“Where are you right now?” Garcia asks you as soon as the line connects, and your face twists up in confusion as you put your plate in the dishwasher.
“I’m at Aaron’s place, where are you?” You ask, not understanding her line of questioning.
“Is Jack in the room with you?”
“Garcia, what’s going on?” You ask, starting to get nervous. Aaron turns to face you, sensing your anxiety and you place a hand on his forearm for support.
“Last night, when we were all at the bar, a girl was kidnapped, who based on the description, looks a hell of a lot like you. A neighbor saw the guy, and based on the he neighbor’s description--
“It looks like Josh,” you finished Garcia’s sentence, and you felt Aaron tense under your fingers. He puts his palm out, silently asking for your phone, and you pass it to him without even telling Garcia that you were putting him on.
You were scared, terrified even, but you knew that the best thing you could do right then was be a profiler. You left Aaron to settle the details, and went into his bedroom to find something work-appropriate to wear. By the time you came back out, Aaron was off the phone.
“I called the rest of the team in, they’re going to meet us at the office. We’re going to get this loser, and we’re going to get him today,” Aaron lets out, and you nod.
“I’ll take Jack over to Jess’s,” you say, turning back towards Jack’s room, and he stopped you.
“No. You stay with me. Jess is on her way,” Aaron says, and she knocks at the door at the next moment. “I just told her that we got called in,” he tells you as he answers the door.
“Morning, guys,” she says as she steps in, entirely too chipper for the terror that’s rolling through your stomach in waves. “Duty calls, right?” She smiles at you, and you use all the power you have to muster a smile back.
“Yeah, even at the worst times,” you’re impressed that you strung that many words together.
“Any idea when you’ll be back?” She asks, and you shake your head.
“We’ve really got to go,” Aaron says, coming back into the room with Jack, who gives you and his father both hugs before you have to leave. You squeeze him extra tight before Aaron ushers you out of the apartment and towards the car.
“I am not going to let anything happen to you.” Aaron tells you after a few moments of tense, silent driving.
“I know,” you say noncommittally, and it’s back to silence.
“You can’t go in the field.” You both say after a moment.
“Darling, you have to understand--”
“No, Aaron, it’s not even up for debate. You’re out because of your leg, and JJ is pregnant. The team needs me, and I can’t sit this one out because either one of us is emotional about it,” You argue, and Aaron heaves a sigh.
“I wish Elle were here. Josh wouldn’t even still be a problem.” Aaron grumbles out, and despite yourself, you burst out laughing. Aaron’s shocked at first by your reaction, but after a moment, he lets out a laugh, too.
“Aaron, that’s awful. You were upset with Elle for months, even after she left. You’re better than that.” You say, still smiling even though it really wasn’t funny at all.
“Yeah, well, when you hobbled out to my car with a black eye, I think I began to understand Elle a little bit better than I did at the time.” Aaron tells you.
You think of the girl Josh has taken now-- being punished only for the sin of resembling you. No doubt she had her own black eye to match yours, plus god only knows what else at this point, nearly twelve hours after being taken. You swallowed thickly. After a moment, you speak up again.
“You knew that this was going to happen, didn’t you?” You ask quietly-- it’s a genuine question, not an accusation, but it still breaks Aaron’s heart. “That’s why you weren’t excited or relieved like I was when he got arrested.”
“I knew it was a possibility,” he confirms. “I didn’t want to say anything to you, because there was no way to know-- and I didn’t want you to have to keep living in fear,” he explains.
“I’m gonna get this son of a bitch,” you whispered, more to yourself than to Aaron.
The team is already waiting for the two of you in the roundtable room while you arrive, although there’s really no need to brief, so you all launch into a profile while Garcia digs for more information.
“What do we know about the unsub?” Aaron asks the team.
“He’s a power-seeker. He uses physical force as a method of coercion.” Morgan says, and Reid scribbles his statement onto a whiteboard.
“He doesn’t react well when challenged--- his demeanor completely changed when he came here and Hotch went after him.” Emily adds.
“True, but he had no problem going toe-to-toe with Morgan.” JJ contradicts.
“Based on the message he left with the flowers, he’s displaying early indicators of stalking behavior. If that’s escalated far enough, it’s possible that Josh might really believe that the woman that he’s taken is Y/N.” Spencer says, and you nod. For her sake, you hoped not. He had a hell of a lot of pent up anger towards you, and you didn’t want this poor girl to take the brunt of it.
“What’s her name?” You asked, quietly, and with everyone talking over you, you almost think no one hears you, until Aaron leans in a little closer.
“What’s that, darling?” He asks.
“What’s her name?” You say again, and his brow furrows in confusion.
“Who’s name?”
“The girl who’s taking the beating with my name on it right now,” you spit out, and the rest of the team stops talking over you. “The least I can do is learn her name and go talk to her parents.” You say, packing your stuff up.
“Her name is Anna Reardon. We’ll send the address to your phone,” Emily tells you, and you turn on your heel and walk out.

Updates are three times/week (Monday, Wednesday & Friday)! tags (as requested by users); @footballffbarbiex @obsesseds-world @abysshaven link to fic masterlist here
Longing glances and shy smiles. That was how Amelia and Ben both spent the next morning at Cobham together, prior to travelling to Stamford Bridge for the fourth match of the season against Aston Villa. The two had spent the rest of the evening relaxing on the couch; no additional kisses were shared between them as they had both agreed to keep things friendly, and no matter how hard Ben tried, Amelia had no intentions of going any further just yet. She had admitted to him something that she had never uttered out loud before: she still needed to work out how to exist without Fede.
While their situationship had been as unconventional as it was, it was still something that Amelia had grown to live with and love. Fede’s personality was unlike no other she had come across, perhaps closest to that of Jack Grealish. Friendly, flirtatious, charming, to the point where she found herself blushing sometimes - not many people had been able to make her shy enough to blush, but Fede had, and now Jack was too.
hot boy grealish
mornin mils, can’t wait to see ya today.
I’ll be the hot one with the good hair and even better ass.

morning my dear jacky, looking forward to seeing you too.
Is Tyrone not playing?
His bum has always been my fav bum to stare at.
hot boy grealish
cut it out, you.
Banter-filled texts had been a constant stream of entertainment throughout the days leading up to the match. Jack has been preparing Amelia for the possibility of her losing, constantly picking on the girl for being an overachiever and saying that she needs to be brought down a few pegs, having been quite some time since her team had lost a match. Amelia however, with enough self-confidence to rival that of the villa boy, wouldn’t even let him finish his sentences. Far too superstitious for that to happen.
The girl believed in superstitions, and she was not about to tempt her fate. She even went so far as to have her family name and a small Italian flag embroidered onto the inside of her collar of every polo shirt she would wear for match days. She did it at Juventus and organised for it to be done to her new Chelsea uniform. It was a personal choice, something that happened to run in her family also, her father and brother also having the White family name stitched to the inside of their kit. It was a way of keeping them all tied together, no matter what side of the pitch they were on. The Italian flag was there to remind her of all that the country had given her: her grandparents and a chance to be brilliant at what she loves most.
Arriving at Stamford Bridge off of the team bus, Jorgi had insisted she sitwith him and they spoke exclusively in Italian for the 30-odd minute drive from Cobham. Despite Amelia purchasing a new car a few days prior, Jorgi insisted they continue to carpool. It worked out well because now Amelia wouldn’t have to catch the team bus back to the training ground after the match. She had spent the better part of an hour out on the pitch with some of the boys, running through the plays she had in mind before she ushered them back into the changeroom, allowing the Aston Villa men to have their time out on the grass.
______________________________________________________________
“I would know that bum anywhere.”
“Hello Jack, nice to see you too. I’ve been well thanks, so has my bum. I’ll let my face know you said hello, too,” I spoke as I stood up from my crouched position, where I had been tying my laces.
“Just kiddin love, actually no I'm not - I love your bum. But I am happy to see your beautiful face too!” Jack spoke, as he pulled me into a hug - wrapping both of his arms around my head, effectively pushing me further into his chest.
“You saw my face a couple days ago when we were on FaceTime!”
“I saw your bum a few days ago on FaceTimetoo, doesn’t mean I'm not happy to see it!”
“So that's why you like helping me do my laundry, so you can see my backside as I reach into the machine!”
“Now I’m not a religious man, but I have prayed to God a few times that you drop a sock or two riiiiiiight in front of the camera.” He laughed back at my shocked expression.
“Jack! You are ridiculous! Stop being such a perv! No wonder you don’t have a girlfriend” I play-shouted at him as I smacked him with my rolled up matchday program.
“I’m holding out for you, my love.”
“Always the joker, Jack. Get out there and prepare for the worst match of your season.”
“Dream on Mils, we’ve got this in the bag.”
“Sure thing Jacky, sure thing.”
I walked further up the tunnel towards the changeroom, getting ready to deliver my strategy talk to the boys.
“Stop looking at my ass, Grealish!” I shouted without turning around. The boisterous laugh that followed my exclamation was enough to know that I was correct. I didn’t need to turn around to be able to predict what the laddish lad was already doing.
60 minutes of football later.
Amelia was correct in saying that Chelsea were going to win the match, her quiet confidence only getting louder and louder as each premier league match went on. She was apprehensive at first to see if her tactics were going to work in the Prem, or if there was to be some compromise on skill due to the fast-paced nature of the game. So far, however, the Chelsea men were quick learners and even quicker to execute.
One thing she wasn’t prepared for, however, was the absolute worldie that Jack had scored just before half-time at the Bridge. There was an element of familiarity in his goal, recognising the play as one of her own. A small smile crossed her face after he scored, running to celebrate with the away fans before jogging down past the bench and mouthing a quick “all you baby” at her as he moved back into position. She must have told him about it back when she was in Italy, knowing that there was no chance she would have exchanged her trade secrets to an enemy in the same league. It warmed her to know he paid enough attention to her to be able to practice that on his own with his team and execute it flawlessly in a live game.
What Amelia also wasn’t prepared for was for anyone else to recognise the play. Behind her on the bench sat an oddly-inquisitive Ben. He saw the tactic as it was playing out, recognising the run that Jack had to make to put himself in the box at the exact moment that John McGinn crossed the ball. Better yet, he saw Jack run down the sideline, nowhere near where he should have been, and mouth those words to Amelia. He wanted to know what was going on, was that why she wasn’t ready to commit to him?
Later that same evening.
After a hot shower, Amelia was curled up on the couch, ready to continue the docuseries she was watching the night before when she had an unexpected visitor pop round and confess his feelings to her. Thinking back on the night prior, she was happy that things ended up working out the way they did. Of course she wasn’t exactly thrilled with just how they happened but she could forgive the sweet boy. His intentions were pure and that's not something she was used to. It made her giddy to think about him, and about where things may go in the future.
A ring of her doorbell, almost to the exact hour that it had the night prior, made her get off her couch and walk down the small hall to the front door with a smirk on her face. Expecting to see the same brown-haired, blue-eyed boy that seemed to enjoy ringing her bell after hours. What she saw on the other side, however, was not what she was expecting.
“Jack, what on bloody God’s earth are you doing here?! You should be halfway back to Birmingham by now!”
“Are you gonna let me in love, it’s bloody cold out ‘ere tonight. Come on, shove over,” The slightly-less-than-6-foot-tall footballer commandeered her hallway, shutting the door behind him and locking it. This, coupled with his overnight duffle bag hanging off his shoulder let Amelia know that he had no other plans but to stay with her.
“Sure, Jack, I suppose you can come in and spend the night crashing in my spare room.”
“Now now, don’t pretend that you’re not happy to see me, love. And a spare room? I believe you promised me a cuddle.”
Rolling her eyes, she couldn’t help but smile at the charming young man. Feeling the blush start to spread from her chest up her neck and across her cheeks, she quickly turned and walked into her kitchen, calling out over her shoulder to ask if he wanted a cup of tea. Feeling a sense of deja vu from the night before, she shook her head and reminded herself that this is nothing like the night before. How could it have been - there was no kissing involved.
“Was that a blush I saw? Do I make you nervous, Amelia?” Somehow, Jack had moved to be right behind the girl at her kitchen counter. Hands on her hips, chest to her back, lips to her ear. Amelia felt herself freeze, and then relax into his hands.
“Jack, please, I don’t think we should do this.”
“Why not, Mils? You can feel it, too. The tension through the screen’s enough to force me into a cold shower most nights.”
And just like the night before, the whistle of the kettle was the only piercing sound resonating around the townhouse. Whilst all she saw was truth behind Ben’s eyes, Jack's eyes were clouded with lust and affection. Just once, she could give in, right?
Leaning her head back to rest on his right shoulder, he attached his lips to the left side of her neck. Hands rolling from the side of her hips, to underneath her shirt, feeling the small navel piercing between his fingers and smirking.
“Didn’t take you for being the kind of girl to have a piercing, Mils,” He spoke into her collarbone, a small nip to the sensitive skin as the girl continued to focus on her breathing.
“Piercings, Jack. I have more than one” She breathlessly spoke, knowing exactly what she was doing now. The admission of having more than one piercing that he could not see was all of the consent Jack needed to continue his exploration of her body.
“Are you going to let me see them, darling?”
“If you’re lucky.”
“I’d say I'm the luckiest guy in the world right now, especially in this position.”
She was unsure how it had happened, but Jack had pressed her further into the countertop. With her back still to his chest, his waist was at the perfect height to press into the small of her back. His leg had settled between both of her own and his hands had found the bottom of her bralette and were gently caressing her rib cage, desperate to get closer to where he presumed her other piercing was.
“We shouldn’t be doing this Jack,” she breathed out into the air, hot air escaping her lungs to resemble what she felt brewing in the pit of her stomach. Desire.
“Why the bloody hell not?” he mumbled into her sweet spot, where her jaw met her neck.
“Because I've been here before. This is bad.” With her eyes shut, he continued his way down her neck. The fabric of her top shifted so he could slide one of her straps down her arm.
“If it's bad, why does it feel so good? '' Whilst his lips got to work on her collarbone, and his hand was busy toying with the elastic line of her bralette, his other hand began to fiddle with her fingers. Entwining them with his own, the kind of strength she needed to feel to make her next decisions.
Pushing back off of the counter, meaning her ass had pushed right into the part of his body where he wanted her most, Amelia turned around and faced Jack. The two stood there, slightly panting, staring at each other. Amelia being the kind of girl that she is, decided that she wanted to have a little slice of the dominance pie. Maintaining eye contact, she lifted the bottom of her t-shirt over her head and dropped in on the floor, that second piercing now very clearly visible through the sheer fabric of her bralette.
“Come on Jack, aren’t you an athlete? What’s got you so out of breath? I thought you’d be able to last a little longer than some heavy petting.” She taunted at the smirking man, wanting nothing more than to mess up his hair as he nestled himself between her thighs. That's exactly the position that they found themselves in not more than 5 minutes later, this time upstairs in her bedroom.
Throughout the multiple rounds of passion that the two so-called friends shared that night, not once had their lips touched. Of course, her lips had touched parts of him and he had definitely been all over a completely different set of lips a few times (and from a few different positions), but face to face, eye to eye, nose to nose - their lips had never met. That told Amelia enough to set her anxiety on fire. Had she just gotten involved with a carbon-copy of the man she left behind in Italy?
The regret seeped through her bones and settled into her heart by the time that the Villa boy had fallen asleep next to her. What had she done? This was not the girl Amelia wanted to be anymore. She was done being the girl that was loved only when the lights went out. She wanted love under the sun, she wanted breakfast by the river, double dates, family parties. She wanted the kind of love that you could never try and hide even if you wanted to. She knew that this wasn’t what Jack was able to offer her. She was grateful for their friendship, she truly was, he made her laugh more than most people but for the first time in a very long time, she was certain that that's all she wanted from him.

In Search of a Happy Ending
Square Filled: Cooking Dinner for @spndeanbingo & Head Cannon for @girl-next-door-writes Make Me Feel Bingo
Characters: Dean x Reader; Sam mentioned
Rating: Teen
Summary: Dean is ready to do whatever it takes to have his apple pie life.
Word Count: 1607
A/N: Thank you first for your friendship @dean-winchesters-bacon and for your beta read on this fic. I know I can rely on you for “Dean accuracy”.
From the moment Dean said “Sam’s gone to a museum thing in Kansas City,” you knew he was up to something.
“What kind of museum thing?” Your eyes narrowed at your boyfriend of seven months, but there was also a huge smile spreading across your face.
“Some kind of ancient Roman artifacts or something,” he answered while he stirred the pot on the stove. Sure Sam liked that sort of thing, but you’d never known him to make a weekend of going to a museum by himself, which conveniently left the bunker all to you and Dean.
You peeked inside the pot that Dean was pretending had all of his attention. He was making a red sauce. The smell of the basil and oregano he’d added to it made your mouth water. In a pan on another burner, he was sauteing chicken. The biggest surprise of all was the chopped up carrots and broccoli he added to the chicken. This was not Dean’s usual fare.
That made you even more pleasantly suspicious. “Want to try a taste?” Dean dipped the wooden spoon he was using into the sauce and blew on it to cool it down before holding it to your lips.
The sound you made was something similar to orgasmic, and your eyes closed to fully savor the flavor. “Dean, that’s amazing.” You opened your eyes and licked your lips. Dean smiled, clearly pleased you liked it, and there was the kind of happiness in his green eyes that once had rarely, if ever, been there. Things were different now. Chuck had been neutralized. Jack was in charge of the known universe, life had gotten much simpler, and with all these changes; Dean had finally allowed himself to relax.
You walked behind him and circled your arms around his waist, easing your hands underneath the bottom of his t-shirt. Dean’s stomach was one of your favorite parts of his body. It was soft, but you could still feel the strength of the muscle underneath. And that summed up Dean nicely. Soft and strong.
He was moving the chicken around the pan with a spatula, and he laughed. “You keep doing that, baby, and I’m never gonna finish cooking this dinner.”
“What? This?” you asked innocently, running one of your hands slowly up his torso to his chest. You’d chosen to go up instead of down, because if you’d done that it would have been all over, and this was clearly important to him.
Dean put down his cooking utensils and turned to you. He kissed you, his lips sweet and firm. “Yes. That. I promise I’ll take care of you real good later, but let me feed you first.”
Dean liked his food. That was no secret, but he liked sex more. So, what was up?
His hands slid below your waist to hold your hips, and his eyes held yours. Each time you saw them it felt like you were touched even more deeply by the intensity and beauty you found there.
Dean’s eyes scanned your face, and you smiled. “Go sit at the table. Food’s almost ready,” he told you with a quick kiss to your lips.
The plate Dean sat before you not only smelled divine; it looked good too. He had clearly done some research about food presentation. When he put a bottle of wine and two glasses down on the table, you knew something monumental was about to happen. Chicken and vegetables? Now wine?
Dean pulled out the chair across from you and sat down. You’d suggested the boys replace the industrial cafeteria style table with some real furniture to make the bunker seem more like a home, and they had agreed. You were still getting used to seeing Dean sitting in a wooden chair that was house worthy and at an actual table. He popped the cork from the wine bottle and poured you a glass. Wine with a cork too?
You sipped your wine and took a closer look at Dean. He was wearing that red shirt that made your heart flutter and your walls clench. It was somewhere between plaid flannel and an FBI white dress shirt on the fanciness scale. Was he trying?
That’s when you noticed Dean was looking at you too. Was he waiting for you to take a bite of your food? Waiting for you to say something? You couldn’t tell. So you cut a piece of chicken and put it into your mouth, along with a sugar snap pea.
“It’s good, Dean. Delicious actually.” He seemed to relax a little. What was going on with him?
You took another bite while Dean drank his wine. He had relaxed some, but something still seemed a little off, so you attempted to make conversation. “How long has Sam been planning this trip to the museum?”
“It was...uh...kind of a last minute thing.” Dean still hadn’t touched his food.
You put down your fork and looked at him intently, trying to read him. Dean dropped his eyes.
“Dean, what’s going on?” You reached across the table and put your hand over his, offering him reassurance about whatever it was he was carrying.
He raised his eyes back to yours and started slowly, “Y/N, there’s something I want to tell you.”
You curled your fingers around his thicker ones to hold his hand. “Okay, Dean. You know you can. Whatever it is.”
His tongue slipped out over his lips, wetting them. “There was something I did a long time ago.” He shifted a little in his seat.
“I...fixed myself. I mean...there was something that happened.” Dean looked uncomfortable enough that it made your heart hurt.
“There was this one hunt and…I met a woman. Only, she wasn’t a woman. She was an Amazon. I got her pregnant, and it was... a weird Amazon pregnancy.” He waved his hand around in the air and sighed.
“The...the baby was born a couple of days later. I... had a daughter, but Sam... killed her.” Your mouth fell open.
“Sam killed a baby?” Dean’s eyes darted to yours.
“No.” He was shaking his head. “No. She grew up as fast as she was born. Sam had to kill her because she was a monster, and she was going to kill me.” Dean hung his head and let go of your hand. “But she was still my kid.”
Dean’s words were falling out of his mouth unchecked. He was telling you things he’d never said before, things that helped explain more of who he was.
He brought his eyes back to yours, and what you saw in them was heartbreaking. “I never wanted anything like that to happen again, so I made sure it wouldn’t.”
You reached for his hand again, so you could hold it. You needed to hold it. “Dean, are you telling me you got a vasectomy?”
Dean clutched your hand, glanced away, and finally ventured a glimpse back at your eyes. “Yeah. But not anymore. I mean I undid it. I can...you know.”
He was so adorably flusterd it made you love him even more. “You had your vasectomy...reversed?”
Dean sighed deeply. “Yeah. That last hunt didn’t last quite as long as I told you it did.” He licked his lips. “I can...I mean I couldn’t ask you to marry me if I couldn’t give you children.”
Your breath caught in your throat, and your heart swelled with more love than you had ever thought it possible to feel. Your heart was also pounding; you weren’t sure how to take what Dean had said.
“Dean, I...” Your fingers moved nervously over the back of his hand. Now he was the one asking you to trust him, needing you to love him.
He stumbled over his words, and it was delightful to see him so ruffled. “I mean I’m going to ask you to marry me better than this. It won’t be in the bunker kitchen. I’ll do it right. You deserve more than this.”
You stood up, walked around the table, and sat in his lap. You snuggled your face into his neck, needing to feel the closeness. Your smile was so wide you could feel it, and your heart was nearly bursting with joy.
“Dean, are you saying you reversed your vasectomy for me? That you want to have babies with me?”
“Yes.” He was so cute when he wasn’t his usual cocksure self.
You brushed your fingers slowly through his short, soft hair. “I love you, Dean Winchester.”
His lips were soft when you touched them with yours, and when you pulled away; his eyes were even softer. “I want to give you anything you want, Y/N. But I can’t. Not yet. I mean...I have to wait. Doc says I’m healing. I can’t...But I can still make you feel good.”
You kissed his forehead and then his cheeks. “Come to bed with me, Dean. There’s plenty of time for all that later. I just want to hold you, feel you hold me.”
Dean stood and took your hand to lead you back to his room. You left the beautiful meal he’d prepared on the table. The chicken could get cold; the chicken didn’t matter. All that mattered was your love for each other.
He’d done it for you, thinking about a future with you, and that was what mattered. That, and the fact, Dean had basically just said he was going to ask you to marry him. All the hurt of the past could be put to rest. You’d make him happy. You would.

---
Sam turned slightly to look at you, where you had fallen asleep in the back of the Impala and smiled.
“Kid’s pooped.” Dean commented and Sam smiled. “Technically she’s only what… 11?” Sam said with a smile, looking back out the window, as Dean looked in the mirror and turned the music down.
Sam still remembered that day about 11 years ago, when he had first found you – just a baby wrapped in a thin blanket. It took a little less than a minute of you laying in his arms before you had Sam wrapped around your tiny fingers.
At best, Dean had been hesitant, the hesitation only growing when they realised you were half-demon. Sam glanced at Dean who had his eyes fixed on the road, remembering the many arguments that they had had - about bringing you up to be good and Sam’s own insistence that you were half human and could be good. When Sam finally managed to convince Dean to carry you in his arms, you had looked up at him, grabbed his finger and Dean had stopped arguing altogether.
You had spent the next 11 years growing under the watchful eyes of the Winchesters. You didn’t present like a normal 11-year-old child, growing rapidly, both physically and mentally and Sam had finally relented a few years back, allowing you to go on hunts with them. Which, as Dean constantly reminded him, had saved their skins more than once.
You whined a little as Dean went over a hump and Sam turned to glance at you again as you shifted in your sleep. “Sorry kid.” Dean whispered, an affectionate smile on his face as he glanced at you through the mirror.
Sam smiled. “Crazy, huh?”
Dean glanced at Sam. “You know if Dad was here, he’d whoop our asses.”
Sam rolled his eyes. “Dean, it took you all of two seconds to love that girl.”
“Shut up.”
Sam chuckled, readjusting himself on the seat, taking one last look back at you, the feeling of pride that was blossoming in his chest was one that only a father could have. You’d made both of them proud - the way you could tell right from wrong as easily as breathing, sometimes even steering both of them on the right path when they wavered.
---
You had been brought up like a daughter under Sam and Dean, but you always knew it was out of the goodness of their hearts that they had taken you in, so you were always careful about making the right decisions. You had always called them by their names, and no one talked about what you all were to each other – you just knew you were family, and you loved each other.
As you were growing up, you had an unmistakable connection to Sam that you couldn’t really explain. Dean was just as protective over you and you knew he loved you under his gruff exterior but there was just something that made you naturally closer to Sam.
You looked up as you heard voices talking, getting up and peeping out from your room. You could hear it in Dean’s voice and it wasn’t good.
“We’ll deal with them but right now, you and me, we gotta go to Hell.” Dean’s voice travelled down the corridor.
You froze as you heard Castiel’s voice, “Woah. You do?”
“Jo said that’s where Ruby stashed the Occultum.” Sam explained.
You stood a little distance away but you could hear everything they were saying. “Ruby? The demon you were sexually intimate with?”
Your eyebrows shot up as you heard the disdain in Dean’s voice. “Sexually intimate?”
You didn’t like where this conversation was leading though, as you listened to Cas try to convince Sam and Dean that going to Hell wasn’t a good idea.
“We have to work with what we have. So we’ll go to Hell, you stay topside and keep that spell alive so we get back, alright?” Dean snapped, turning but freezing in his tracks when he saw you. “Hey kid.”
“Y/N?” Sam stepped out of the room they had been in.
Your expression must have betrayed you because Sam stepped towards you.
“Isn’t that too dangerous?” You asked, your eyes darting from Sam to Dean and back again.
Sam didn’t answer your question directly. “As long as the spell is kept alive here, Dean and I will be able to come back. No problems, okay?” he bent to look you in the eye.
You knew this was important. “Okay.” Your voice came out as a whisper.
As Sam straightened up, you looked up again. “Sam.”
You paused as he looked back down at you. “Be safe.” You whispered. Sam smiled and reached down to hug you. “You take care of things here, okay?”
You nodded before looking at Dean. “Don’t worry, kid.” Dean said, as he gave you a tight hug. “We’ll be right back.”
---
You sat with Castiel in the library, staring at the bowl that contained the spell that was Sam and Dean’s ticket back.
“So they made it? Sam and Dean are in hell?” Jack asked as he walked in.
You didn’t answer but Castiel spoke, “Yeah.” He paused. “There are too many holes in Jo’s story. Who was Ruby going to sell the Occultum to? Why didn’t Jo try to get it back?”
Your eyes flicked up now. “You think she’s lying?”
Castiel sighed, “I think we need to ask Ruby.”
“She’s dead.” Jack stated, confusion etched across his face.
“In the Empty.” Castiel clarified. “I need your assistance. Both of you.”
“Sure, anything.” Jack responded, as you knew he would.
Castiel stood, “I need you to kill me. Almost.”
“Wait.” You stopped him.
Castiel put a hand up. “Listen, if I’m at death’s brink, I should be able to put one foot in the afterlife and contact Ruby.”
Jack frowned and glanced at you. “Cas, the Empty doesn’t exactly like you, remember?”
“I’ll go.” You said, interrupting the conversation.
Castiel frowned at you. “No.”
“I’m half-demon, the same spell will get me to the same place. I’m a new face, the Empty doesn’t have a beef with me, and me being half-demon might be advantageous when I talk to this Ruby.”
Castiel hesitated, glancing at Jack.
“Besides, it’s safer that you’re here. What if you go and Jack and I can’t bring you back?” You argued. “If you’re here, I know that you’ll definitely be able to bring me back. Come on, Cas.”
Castiel looked at your determined expression and he knew that you were right.
“If this will help Sam and Dean, I’m doing it.” You stressed.
“Are you sure?” Jack asked, looking from you to Castiel.
Castiel glanced at you again and you nodded at him.
“You have one hour. That’s it.” Castiel said, looking slightly worried.
You nodded at him before turning to Jack. Jack hesitated but touched your forehead and you felt the breath knocked out of you, your life force being drained into a flask that he was holding out in front of you. The last thing you saw was Jack’s worried face before your eyes fluttered shut.
---
You found yourself surrounded by darkness. Utter pitch black. You could even feel your human half squirming.
“Ruby? Ruby? Can you hear me?” You called out, taking a few steps forward. You weren’t even sure if any of your powers would work here.
“Hello. You’re a new face.” A voice came out of the darkness and you spun around defensively.
A woman sitting on a chair facing you. “Why are you stomping around here looking for Ruby?”
You took a deep breath. “I’m here to fulfil a request ordered by Death.” You paused, narrowing your eyes slightly. “Are you the Empty?”
She let out a smile. “Oh, a smart one. Now, tell me. Why should I help you?”
You took another step forward. “I understand you and Death are working together.”
She sighed dramatically before pointing. You turned to see a ball of light, before it enlarged and a young woman took its place.
“Ruby?” You ventured, moving towards the new appearance.
She looked confused as she looked around before looking at you. “Where am I?”
“You’re dead.” You stated matter of factly.
Ruby’s eyes grazed over you and it bothered you that she seemed to be sizing you up. “I remember.” She finally said, “Are you?”
You shrugged, “Almost, I guess.” A beat of silence passed between the two of you. “Ruby, I’m looking for an object known as the Occultum. The angel Jo said that you hid it somewhere in Hell.”
Ruby rolled her eyes. “Did she? That is so like her. Don’t you think it’s a little obvious for a demon to be hiding something in Hell?”
“I wouldn’t know.” You said, squinting your eyes at her. “Sam and Dean are searching there now.”
Her expression softened, “Oh, Sam. How is the big lug? I liked him.” Unconsciously, a low growl rose in your throat. “We had a good thing, until…”
Ruby paused. “Are you… You are, aren’t you?”
“What?” You snapped, your patience wearing thin.
“You’re half-demon aren’t you? You’re her.”
You froze. “You know me?”
Ruby looked at you. “Oh, you must be her. Sam must have found you. I’m glad he took you in, that’s so typical Sam.” You growled a little, getting annoyed.
“How do you know me?” You asked again, wary.
“Why, honey, don’t you recognise your mother?” Ruby drawled, a small smile playing on her lips.
If you had been holding something, you would have dropped it.
Your mouth opened but no sound came out as the conversation you had overheard this morning played in your head like a broken recorder.
Ruby? The demon you were sexually intimate with?
You looked at Ruby again and she answered the question you didn’t ask, “Yeah, honey, Sam’s your father.”
You swallowed, processing the information. You didn’t have a lot of time left in the Empty, you needed to get the information you came for.
“Listen, I don’t have a lot of time. Can we just…” You tore your eyes away from the woman, the demon, that had just dropped a bombshell on you, and pressed further. “When you went to Jo about the Occultum…”
“When I went to see her?” Ruby’s voice was scathing now and you looked back up. “She called me.” You listened, an uneasy feeling forming in your gut as you listened to Ruby give her account of what had really happened, how Jo had asked to see her, pitching her the idea to be in the safest place anyone could be in when Michael and Lucifer battled it out – the Occultum.
“It’s a place?” You asked incredulously.
Ruby looked straight at you. “Whatever you want to call it, it’s powerful. Anyway, we had a deal so I stashed it. I can tell you the location. But it’s definitely not in Hell.”
You tried to ignore the voice screaming in your head that Sam and Dean were in hell for nothing, stashing away the desire to kill Jo. “Does Jo know where it is?”
Ruby let out a dry laugh. “As if she could be trusted. But you can trust me.”
It was your turn to let out a laugh. “Because you’re my mother?”
Ruby rolled her eyes. “Because I want a deal.” She paused. “I’ll help you on one condition. Get me the hell out of here.”
“What?” You asked, furrowing your brows.
“This place is full of sorrow and despair, playing over and over again.” Ruby spat.
You looked back at her helplessly. “There’s no way I can…”
“You’re connected. I bet Sam, Dean, Castiel, they’re all waiting for you at the other end. I just need you to try.”
You needed to get the information from her before time ran out. “Okay, I’ll try.”
Ruby leaned forward to whisper in your ear.
---
Jack cast a look at Cas, his eyes moving towards your limp form at the table before looking back at the bowl containing the spell that was Sam and Dean’s ticket back here. Just then, a whooshing sound signaled their return.
“Guys, you’re back!” Jack called as their eyes fell on your limp form.
“Jack? Cas? What the hell?” Dean stepped forward, his eyes trained on you.
“Y/N? Honey?” Sam was kneeling next to you. “She’s cold. What’s going on?”
Jack looked at them. “She’s dead… kind of.”
Dean looked worriedly at you, his eyebrows furrowed.
“What?” Sam spat.
Castiel stood. “The Occultum isn’t in Hell.”
Dean didn’t say anything but swung his head to Jack.
“Y/N went to the Empty. Hopefully... To find Ruby. Hopefully... To find out where this Occultum thing is located.” Jack frowned. “Hopefully...”
“That’s way too many hopefullys!” Sam raised his voice as Dean looked back at Castiel.
“Bring her back. Now!”
---
When Ruby pulled away, you studied her.
“But it’s true, what you said?” You asked. Ruby rolled her eyes. “I told you, you could trust me.”
You shook your head. “I meant what you said about… me…” Your voice trailed off.
Ruby smiled. “Oh darling, that is definitely true. I made sure Sam would find you. But the rest? That’s all him.”
With that, Ruby quietly disappeared into the darkness, smiling at you.
“Hey.” The Empty was back now. “Now, my turn.”
Your stomach did a nervous flip. You were now pretty sure none of your abilities would work here.
“You don’t get to come traipsing in as and when you like, so take this as a little punishment.” She fisted her hand into a ball and you felt a pain surge through your body, as if someone was squeezing your heart and your whole body.
You groaned, sinking to your knees.
---
Castiel glanced at Dean again. “Now, Cas!” He raised his voice.
Castiel nodded at Jack, who quickly picked up the flask, unscrewing it and holding it close to you, letting the lifeforce seep back into your body.
Dean watched helplessly as Sam tightened his hold on your arm.
Your eyes snapped open as you took a deep shuddering breath, coughing. You could still feel the lingering pain from the Empty’s hold on you.
“Y/N!” Sam called out, as you swiveled your eyes towards him, his face hovering above you – your father. Your actual father.
Dean let out a sigh of relief.
“You’re back.” You breathed, smiling at them.
“Are you crazy Y/N? What if this hadn’t worked?” Dean asked, staring straight at you like he did when you used to get in trouble. You looked at Sam whose worried expression was now being replaced with one of slight annoyance.
“But it did.” You stubbornly said. “I’d do it again.”
“You could have gotten yourself killed.” Sam said, causing you to fall back into silence.
You crossed your arms. “The Occultum was never in Hell.”
“We would have told you that if you had waited for us.” Sam said.
You shook your head continuing, “It’s apparently the safest place in the world. And I got the location.” You stared back defiantly at both of them.
“It’s a place?” Dean asked, frowning.
“Yeah.” You said. “Am I still crazy?” You asked, looking between both of them.
“Yes.” They both said in unison.
You rolled your eyes.
“Before we go, we need to talk.” Sam said, his stern voice telling you there was no room for argument.
You sighed and nodded. Sam looked at Dean who nodded at him. “We’ll find a way. Go.”
Sam stalked back towards your room, as you followed close behind.
“What were you going to do if you got stuck there?” Sam asked. “Y/N, I told you to think before you react. Always!” You could hear the genuine worry in his voice.
You didn’t respond immediately, just stepped forward and looped your arms around his torso, hugging him.
“I’m sorry…” You let a beat of silence pass before you said it, “Dad.”
You felt Sam freeze before he pulled away gently so that he could look at you. A small frown crossed his face. “Thought you didn’t like calling us that.”
You shrugged. “I thought you wouldn’t like it.”
You turned away. “I met Ruby.”
The thoughts you had pushed aside earlier were flooding your mind now. Sam and Dean had taken you in without knowing anything, without knowing who you were, where you came from and it was by sheer dumb luck that you had found out that Sam was your father. Your actual father. With that thought, a warmth spread in your chest.
Over the years, you had had your doubts about yourself. Sam always stressed that you were half human and that the human side of you could always choose to do the right thing. But you were never really sure, until now. You now knew why your human side could do the right thing, because your human side had come from Sam.
“Y/N?” Sam asked, you could hear him moving closer.
You turned around to face him. “She told me. About the both of you.” A look of knowing crossed Sam’s face. “That’s where I came from.” You whispered.
A look of shock crossed Sam’s face. “What?”
You frowned a little, trying to read his expression. “You don’t believe her?” You asked.
Sam shook his head. “No, I… I didn’t know.” He paused. “I think I finally understand the connection.” He smiled.
“Ruby wouldn’t lie from where she is. There’s no reason to.” Sam reassured you.
“Even if it’s a lie, is it wrong to want to believe in it?” You asked, dragging your eyes up to Sam’s.
“I believe it.” Sam whispered, bending down to give you a hug.
The one thing you knew for sure was that Sam had seen you as a daughter long before he knew you were his blood. Blood or not, he had loved you and that thought alone brought tears to your eyes.
“I’m glad it was you who found me.” You whispered. “Back then, when I was a baby... I’m glad it was you.”
Sam smiled back at you, affectionately tucking a strand of hair behind your ear.
“Can I call you that?” You asked.
Sam smiled. “You can call me whatever you want.”
You nodded, “Thanks,” Reaching forward for him again, you whispered, “Dad.”

The Blood That Haunts Me

Hotch has a bad heart
word count 6k
In Savannah Hayes’ experience, Saturday’s are typically for parents with screaming toddlers looking for emergency medicine to soothe their fears about whatever toy their child has shoved up their nose or to ask an aged nurse what to do with this croup that just won’t go away. It’s scrapes and bruises from a fender bender with kids just learning to drive and roughly two to three broken arms from seven-year-olds learning to ride a bike without training wheels. With any luck, there will be only one underage kid in a banana bag and the college kids will be in and out for stitches and gone as quickly as they come. There’s always the regulars - older men and women that buzz with the opportunity to be out of their houses even if it’s to withstand the pain of stitches and staples on their thin skin.
Rarely has Savannah faced a Saturday where she knew someone being pulled into her emergency room. Virginia isn’t the biggest place but her friends are young and healthy and Saturdays are for squirmy children and stupid teenagers. When she sees him with his ankles stretched out over the end of the stretcher and a large hand weakly fighting with the paramedic to hold the oxygen mask over her face she’s certain of his identity. She’s good with faces and his is unmistakable.
“You shouldn’t be on break yet, baby.” Derek picks up on the first ring, the sound of Hank babbling loudly in the background making him chuckle deeply as he moves. The phone pinched between his shoulder and cheek, she can hear him pick up their son. Talking back to the baby.
Savannah is sitting in the emergency room, camped out behind the desk as she catalogs patient information. Despite it being a Saturday, the hospital is startlingly pretty timid (knock on wood). When there is a new patient the clatter is noticed. So when Hotch came in, supine but weakly fighting against the oxygen mask pulled down over his mouth, Savannah noticed. Even drugged and combative, he’s distinctly himself.
And as Savannah tells Derek, describes the man she’s quite fond of, he doesn’t believe her. Hotch doesn’t go to the hospital and no one’s heard from him in forever, he’s probably not even in Virginia. Garcia said Jack started high school last fall and if they were home and situated again with no contact then… Well, what are they supposed to do? “Derek--” Savannah can hear the pitch change in his voice. Derek goes from dismissive to genuinely worried and now pulling at strings because no one has talked to Hotch in months (nearly two years) and the idea of seeing him now is terrifying. “I am positive that it’s Hotch.” She leans around the monitor, frowning as she watches some nurses she knows buzz around him. Throwing out words she can’t make out entirely but she can see what they’re doing and it makes her heart jump a little to hear medications that they put orders out for.
Hotch makes a noise - it has to be loud for her to hear it from the distance she’s at. “Baby,” she stands and it makes her heart do a weird clenching thing when she catches a glimpse at his face. Sees that he’s crying and clearly upset. “Derek, he’s getting all kinds of agitated. I’m gonna call you back in a second, okay?” She doesn’t wait for an answer and tosses her phone down on her chair before calling out for one of the nurses she recognizes with a wave.
The nurse smiles when she sees Savannah - she’s got a particular gift with patients like Hotch.
“I know this one,” Savannah says, approaching the bed. “What have you got?”
Savannah doesn’t have all the details on the accident that occurred in 2009 with George Foyet. It’s not Derek’s story to tell and it’s not exactly the easiest one to bring into conversation. She’s aware of vague things like his collapse a few years later from scar tissue that caused him to bleed internally and that Hotch's ex-wife was killed by a serial killer. Mostly, she knows that Hotch is dependable and secure and that when he went into witness protection nearly two years ago his absence had crushed them all. Even if the likes of Emily Prentiss and her just as stubborn as hell husband would never admit it.
“Mild tachycardia and respiratory depression -” The nurse tells her about Hotch’s underactive thyroid, something he’s supposed to take medication for ever since the stabbing damaged the organs function. How it’s throwing his heart into tachycardia and it’s getting worse, not responding to medicine yet.
Savannah may not know what happened with George Foyet but she knows Derek regards Hotch as this infallible wall of a man. One she’s come to understand he thinks can’t ever fall down and one that, despite how fondly he’ll speak about him, annoys the hell out of him. Personally, Savannah thinks Aaron Hotchner is just a sweet man. She likes him and his little quirks. He’s quite the odd pairing when he gets together with Emily and Dave but they’re a funny crowd.
What she isn’t expecting is the mess of scars littering his chest. Experience allows her to date some of them by sight - their distinct shape and coloration clustering them into the same time frame and she can’t imagine how someone gets over half a dozen wounds like that at once. They don’t end there. On his right side, there’s a nearly faded out of existence scar from a chest tube. A puncture wound- something blunt she’d assumed by way of its roundness. Even a few rougher-looking, jagged scars that she assumes are shrapnel because Derek has nearly identical ones.
Savannah is a few moments too late to prevent Hotch from being pulled down by a sedative but he’s fighting it, blinking slowly to try and remain awake. “Hey,” she greets softly, turning his wrist over so she can see IV sight in his elbow. It’s secure and there’s nothing special to note but it’s going to bruise. “Long time no see Agent Hotchner.” She squeezes his fingers, smiling at the recognition behind his eyes even if his lips only form a silent mouthed version of her name.
With a smile - remembering the first time they met and how gently he’d taken her hand before shaking his head and admonishing “everyone calls me Hotch” - she reaches down and fixes his hair. He’s let it grow out since he left the BAU. Derek had been livid when he got word that Hotch wasn’t coming back despite the fact that he too left the unit. “How are you feeling, Hotch? Can I call someone?”
His eyes slide shut and for a moment she thinks he’s given in, sunk down low where his pain and his ailments can’t get him. He taps a finger against her palm and she understands he’s still here. “Morgan?” he rasps.
She nods, “Derek already knows you’re here. I imagine he’ll have the whole crew here in no time.” He grimaces, cracking an eye open to give her a look she understands entirely. She’s only ever faced their smothering worry once when Hank was born but she knows it’s a lot. It’s hard to imagine they’re going to somehow be less present and attuned with him than they with her. He’s not looking forward to that and it’s understandable. “Don’t worry,” she promises, “I’ll have your back when they get here.”
He nods, dull eyes sinking back under his eyelids. She holds his hand until she’s certain he’s fallen asleep.
“So,” the nurse asks softly. She moves and tubes and wires around so that they’re not laying against his bare skin. Folding the blankets over Hotch’s hips and leaving his chest bare. He’s still tachycardic, breathing laboriously through inflamed lungs. “How do you know this guy?”
Savannah sits down on the edge of the bed, taking Hotch’s hand into her own. Working her thumb in gentle, hypnotic motions between his knuckles and smiling sadly at the relieved rasping sigh that leaves his parted pale lips. “Family,” she answers because she’s not sure what the answer really is but in some way… yeah, family.
The nurse nods, going about what needs to be done while Savannah stays on the edge of the bed. She does what she can until she clears her throat. “Hey,” the nurse smiles, sympathetic to the soft faraway look in Savannah’s eyes. “Doctor Hamilton admitted him so I need to take him up to the--”
Savannah stands immediately, nodding. “Yeah,” she lays his hand back down on his chest. Stepping away from the bed, “sorry.” She shakes her head, stepping back as the brakes come up and he’s set into motion. “Second floor?” Savannah assumes.
The nurse nods, “he’ll be in room one seventeen. I’ll let the desk know he’s one of yours.”
Savannah watches him disappear down the hall, met at the mouth of the hall by other nurses and staff nodding as they take him to the right floor. She’d been there long enough to see his heart monitor and to identify the ventricular tachycardia plaguing him. He’ll likely need a pacemaker and she’s already racing to a solution. He’ll need to be monitored after surgery but can go home. Hank’s a little too small still but they have the guest room. If Derek cleans up the mess he lets Hank make in there--
Savannah’s heart sinks to the floor and she turns around. Hit with the sudden memory of the last event she saw Hotch at and remembers slowly that Hotch has a son and someone needs to find him.
All morning something had been off, Hotch didn’t have to say it for Jack to know. The oatmeal was made oddly, Hotch’s hands trembling so much he’d gotten the measurements wrong. Too much brown sugar but Jack hadn’t seemed to mind it being too sweet. He’d been distracted by his oatmeal and unalarmed by signs he hasn’t learned to be aware of. If Hotch had gotten up late or made breakfast and then laid down on the couch then Jack would have noticed. Bad days come frequently and like most storms look and sound distinct.
High anxiety days are an early rise, the sound of lights being turned on and off as Hotch fails to get comfortable in any room. Coming out of his room and finding his father curled up on the couch. His knees drawn up and a pillow pressed into his chest, a heated blanket wrapped around him like a cocoon. It’s lightly tiptoeing around the house so Hotch stays asleep and avoids him once he does move and allows his aching back to stretch out. Jack knows to keep his music down and to call Jessica if Hotch locks himself away.
Though time has dampened it’s severity it’s not impossible to find his father trying to work through untreated PTSD or ride out an intense wave of depression. Leaving him immobile or desperate for a distraction. Jack knows those things. He understands them and, like the blasting siren that screams out before a tornado, Jack knows when to duck for cover and ride out the storm.
But Jack had no idea what a heart attack would look like. What to expect or even if a heart attack had been what he’d seen.
Hands over his ears, Jack Hotchner sinks into the emotionless walls surrounding him. Trying to find the place past his body where everything ceases to exist. Insistently, against his will, he’s pulled back to a decade ago. To the sound of gunshots tearing through the only home he’d ever known. To Emily wiping his tears away with the palm of her hand, their backs to the carnage his father created in the fall. To a hospital not unlike this one where his father was patched up - open wounds covered and drugs numbing his rough edges - until Jack had finally been able to see him. The feeling of his father’s chest, broad and forever, solid as he’d curled his legs into his lap. His father cried softly as he explained what happened, what he’d done.
“Mommy isn’t coming home, buddy.”
Pinching his eyes shut, Jack rocks himself back and forth. He can’t go there. Not alone. He can’t go back to Foyet. He’s too old for those silly games. Too old for nightmares and monsters hiding under his bed. Unaware of the ones still crawling out of his father’s closet, wrapping their cold fingers around his ankle and threatening to pull him into the darkness with them.
You’re never too old for monsters.
Spencer had found the time to confide in Jack about being raised by a mentally ill single mother. His intent was to demonstrate to Jack that not only did he understand the pre-teens intense fury with his father but that the emotions would abate and Jack would have only a few moments to decide what to do next. How Spencer had turned eighteen and had to have his mother committed to an institution. A decision that haunted him but that he ultimately understood it was simply the only option. One day, Spencer clarified, Jack would understand the way his father worked.
Until that moment, Jack had been more or less paying attention. When it came to all things Uncle Spence, Jack typically has a longer attention span and all the patience in the world but the moment Jack realizes this was a one-on-one sort of deal he was done. He wanted out. But Reid stuttered. That one day, and the words had come out so quickly if he’d had a chance Reid would have stopped them, Jack would realize just what that meant. He’d look at his father and all the magic of his childish love would fall away and Jack would be left with his father’s bare bones. And it would be terrifying but, often, that’s all love is: all the bits bleached down to their true forms.
He gets it now, okay? The nutty academic parent with bouts of deep depression, an obsession with their jobs, and no idea how to say I love you like everyone else. He gets the comparison now. Can he be done? He wants to go home. He’s done learning this stupid lesson about love or whatever bullshit this is supposed to represent. When does it end? It’s going to end, right?
Derek Morgan falters in the doorway, stalled like an engine as he stands at the edge of the messy room. Hank hums in Derek’s left ear, bouncing his foot against Derek’s hip as he stands stationary and trying to wrap his head around everything happening. It’s overwhelming. Derek hasn’t seen Hotch in two years and if the sight of him alone - laid out right here - doesn’t bring its own intense wave of anger and longing then the sight of his uncovered chest is it’s own thing as well.
Hotch is on the bed, curled slightly to his right with the blankets leaving his pale chilled skin open. Even with his face turned into the pillow behind his head, he looks deathly pale in comparison to the white bedspread. Entirely too limp, too still as he lays there pulling in breaths audible over the hiss of the canal running under his nose. Nearly drowned out, consumed by the natural hums of the hospital and constant motion of the monitors to his left and the dissatisfied beep of the blood-pressure cuff around his right arm.
Savannah warned him of what he’d find once he got inside in case she got called away to a patient when he got there. She told him the buzz around the staff, what Hotch’s cardiologist thought and it stung to hear her warn him ahead of time what Hotch looked like, worse, she imagined, than what Derek was imaging. Weaker, she’d said as if the word was some sort of betrayal. He’s weak and Derek can’t push him and he’d wanted to advocate for himself but he couldn’t.
With tears in his eyes, he’d promised to be on his best behavior and Derek realized just how awful he and Hotch could be towards one another. How everyone sees it. He’d wondered if… Well, if Hotch hated him for it. They’d been close once. Partners. Haley used to joke she half expected he’d steal Aaron away from her. That old joke used to make Jason laugh so hard, the two of them together were the cause of all his worry and stress. Now…
Well, now Derek is standing in a room that can’t be more than a 120-foot space with far too much equipment in it feeling like he’s never been so far away from Hotch. So disconnected.
Hotch makes a soft sound from the bed, twitching his nose and flexing his fingers. There are more drugs than blood in him, keeping him weak and tired and unable to pick apart his surroundings. Hazy eyes blink open, peeled apart like they each weigh twenty pounds, and the simple act of keeping them open burns. He can’t make out the world around him very well but he sees the empty chairs on his left and the expanse of white all around. The hospital, he knows, and no one showed up.
Maybe they finally got wise and are leaving him to his own devices. Leaving him to rot where he won’t be missed. Sinking into the fibers of the bed and disappearing. They’ll stop pumping him so full of drugs and just let him wilt away. He wants it, craves the nothing he knows he’ll find. No masks or deception or this anger he feels burning and rearing its ugly head. Just nothing.
Derek steps into the room, sniffling to draw in some noise before he steps into Hotch’s line of sight. Hoping not to startle him, as he clears his throat, meeting Hotch’s gaze for only a moment looking down at his shoes. “Just me and Hank,” he offers. He tucks his hands into his pockets. He can feel Hotch still looking at him, hearing those painstakingly slow, labored breaths. He wishes he hadn’t come. To escape all this restless vulnerability.
Hotch’s eyes sink back shut, pale lips parting to mumbling, “Derek,” under his breath. Savannah told him Hotch wouldn’t even likely know he was there. The drugs are affecting his mental facilities, sedating him to keep him calm while they run tests. When he can remember what’s happening he’s scared and when he can’t… he has a baseline memory that hardly differentiates friend from foe. It’s the latter of which Savannah needs him to be aware of because Hotch’s heart can’t handle the stress. His mind is too clouded and his body too weak, he just needs someone to hold his hand. Someone to distract him.
Derek’s expecting a conversation. For Hotch to say something. To apologize for running off or to pay Hank some sort of mind. There’s not even a stiff silence, Hotch looks so weak, so pliant Derek isn’t sure he can even speak. He realizes that despite all the hefty warnings, despite everything that he was told he still walked into this room expecting Aaron Hotchner. He wanted, he needed the man in the suit, with that stern scowl, and gravelly voice. He’d needed the mask and instead he got the man. The man without the armor, just blood.
And it scares him.
It scares Derek that Hotch can’t put up his shields, that he can’t hide and play their cat and mouse game of anger and misunderstanding. They only have blind defeat.
Derek sits down in the visitor’s chair, shushing Hank when he squirms with agitation. Hank immediately starts touching everything in sight. Reaching and leaning dangerously out of Morgan’s lap, to touch the bed and smack his hand against the rail. A sound that makes Hotch’s eyes peel open to slivers before they shut again, unbothered. “Don’t touch that,” Derek pulls Hank into his lap, redirecting his attention.
He knows, from the low whine Hank lets out, that this isn’t going to work for very long. Mercifully, there’s a knock at the door and Savannah peeks her head in. Waving at Hank who fights his limbs out of Derek’s hold to be placed on the floor so he can propel his body in the direction of his mother.
“Hello baby,” Savannah scoops him right up. Grinning at that way he toddles, that quick toddler pace because he doesn’t know how to pump the brakes. How to set himself into motion that isn’t just guided by leaning forward and running.
Derek stands from his chair, clearing his throat and glancing down at Hotch before looking back to his wife and son.
Savannah can see his hesitation, his worry. “Why don’t we go to the cafeteria and get a snack? Hmm?” She jogs Hank up in her arms and he brightens at the offering - knowing pudding or a cookie is coming his way. “Derek?” She offers out her hand to him, “come on. I’ll explain everything to you downstairs.”
“Ugh--” all he can see is Hotch shivering. His skin slick with sweat from the strain on his body but the way he’s curled into the side. Trying to produce warmth where it isn’t. “Just give me a second.” Derek knows he can’t just throw the blanket over Hotch and he works himself up, gets upset just thinking about the mass of awful scars keeping his friend held together. All the old scars are bare for anyone and everyone to see. If Hotch had the presence of mind for it, he’d be upset.
With a gentleness born with great amounts of stress, Derek gently works the lower half of the blanket over Hotch’s leg. He folds the lower half over and hesitates, stares at Hotch, and wonders just how much he’s allowed. Hotch is cold and Derek knows that means his arms too but that crosses their line. They’re never spoken out loud, only shot through glances about trust and touch but Hotch is asleep or maybe lost to his haze of drugs (and Derek’s not really sure if there’s a difference between those two things). So, he picks up Hotch’s hand, swallowing against the uncomfortable swell of his throat when he feels just how cold the other man’s skin is. He tucks Hotch’s hand carefully against his chest.
Hotch’s face twitches, a grimace that makes him jerk his head but he doesn’t move his hand so Derek leaves it. Carefully, still watching and waiting for some explosive reaction but none come. Derek turns the heated blanket up to the highest setting, making sure even Hotch’s shoulders are covered. Tucking the blanket just under his chin.
Hotch groans from the back of his throat, a startling noise that comes with blinding panic. His eyes fly open, darting around the room and to Derek but not seeing. Derek can’t tell if it’s pain or fear but the machine over his shoulder picks up pace, reflecting Hotch’s distress. Hotch swallows thickly, mouth opening and eyes flicking around the room. Twisting, fighting his body in a futile battle where he loses no matter the outcome. Kicking out and dislodging blankets as he’s blinded by his pain.
“Step back Derek.” Derek just stands there, frozen. Savannah grabs him by the arm and pulls him back, allowing other people to come into the room. “He’s okay,” she mumbles, eyes glued to Hotch. He’s fighting blindly, anything and everything. His heart can’t take it, her eyes flick from his bare skin to the monitors. To the staff also taking note. “Derek, we can’t be in here.”
They pull the crash cart close, preparing vials of medicine before their eyes.
“What’re they--” Derek can’t move. He stands there watching them move blankets out of the way. Listening as they pull open a drawer and settle a machine on top and he knows what it is. Doesn’t need to be told what’s happening next. “Savannah.” He stumbles back, shaking his head. The machine wines, a high-pitched squeal that makes Derek’s heart pick up.
He doesn’t see, doesn’t watch.
He’s standing in the hall when the machine fires off. Can close his eyes but can’t unhear the sound of Hotch’s low groan, a punched-out sound but he’s alive. Still pulling in breaths.
“Morgan?”
He was still a baby the last time Morgan saw him. Quickly trying to climb to his father’s height but every bit as graceful as a colt, and angry. Angry with his father for falling into this same repeated history and questioning what he knew. How much of his father’s strength is something else? What does he really know about the man who raised him? Because he got himself a chunk of history, started to understand the man he’d always blindly turned to. His hero. Instead, he got glimpses, stories about the boy his mother knew and he could no longer recognize him.
But standing here now is a whole teenager. Blonde hair grown out and even taller, built unmistakably like his father with all height in his legs and pale.
“Jack.” Morgan stumbles back when Jack collides into him, long arms wrapping around him. “Oh my God,” he whispers. “When the hell did you get so big?” He’s standing there, a whole armful of the kid he used to give piggyback rides to.
Jack pulls away and wipes his eyes, furiously wipes his eyes so that Morgan can unsee the tears streaming down his face. “My-- My dad,” he asks. “Did you see him?” Jack looks at the room, alerted by the sounds coming from within, but Morgan steps in the way. “Morgan is he-- is he in there?” Jack worms his way out of Morgan’s arms, a whole tangle of long limbs.
Hotch would be proud to know Jack is exactly like him, real scrappy. A lot of fight for such a lanky person.
“Jack,” Morgan pulls him away from the door. Despite how much he wants to go to Hotch too, that’s not where Jack should be. That’s not what Jack should see. “Come on, kid. We can’t go in there. Come on.” The fight leaves him easily enough, he’s really just a kid standing there looking for someone to tell him what to do. Anyone to point him where he’s supposed to be.
Jack still wants to turn, as if pulled by strings.
“I called Rossi,” Morgan offers. Something to distract him, something good. “Everyone else? Reid and Garcia and Emily? They’re on their way, okay?” And even with loaded promises Jack can’t find the nerve to respond. Their names used to be a solace. Someone to call when he needs help with his math homework. To show up with books on whatever cool thing he’s into this week. His family.
People he hasn’t seen in forever.
They do come.
Hank’s ambling about, babbling to Morgan as he pulls his father around the waiting room. It’s his excited squeal that alerts them to the other’s arrival. To Reid holding the door open so the others can pass. The pile-up that happens, shocked inhales and silence as they stand there and look at the carnage. At Jack’s tear-stained face and Morgan going where Hank pulls but empty, fearful.
“Uncle Dave?” Jack stands up, wiping at his face with the back of his hand.
Dave smiles, “hey kiddo.” He doesn’t argue against the armful of Jack he gets, just closes him up. “Christ,” Dave whispers. “You’re a giant.”
“What is he feeding you?” Jack turns around and finds Emily and all she can do is laugh as he hugs her too. Finds herself all wrapped up in his long arms. “I’m going to give him a piece of my mind,” she whispers, “letting you get so big.” She squeezes him tight, cups the back of his head.
There’s not much more time for reunions, never much time for anything.
“Aaron Hotchner?”
Never get used to this part either. The sitting. The waiting. The calling.
Savannah was right about the tachycardia.
“With your permission - ” and it’s important that detail be added. That Hotch can’t make this decision for himself anymore and it’s resting entirely on the shoulders of Jessica or Dave and Emily alternatively. That doesn’t mean it’s not like a kick to the gut. A cruel taunt. “We would like to prepare him for the surgery now while he’s stable.” Stable? Is that what he is? Laying back there with defibrillator pads on his chest and sedated to the point that Morgan wasn’t sure Hotch could even recognize him.
Jack sniffles, ducking his head and whispering to Emily. Attached to her hip, clinging to her. She shakes her head and brushes his hair back, “it doesn’t work like that, Jack.” Jack’s lower lip trembles and it breaks Emily’s heart so she interrupts the doctors. Despite the voice at the back of her head telling her this isn’t a good idea. Despite the sour twist in her stomach. The way she knows Hotch wouldn’t want this. “I know there are strict rules,” and that alone should be enough to know they’re likely to be shot down. “Is there any chance he can go back before the surgery? This is his son, he’s fifteen. He’ll be sixteen soon. You’re hardly breaking the rules at all.”
Soon is a bit of a stretch. Jack’s an October baby.
The doctor looks at Jack and sighs like this is really putting him off but nods. “Yeah, quickly. Five minutes, do you understand? You can’t be back there long,”
And Jack thinks he’s won something grand. That he’ll be faced with the same mirage Morgan was expecting. His dad will be sitting back there tall and strong, probably just tired like he’s sick. But he takes one step into the room and wishes he hadn’t come. Hadn’t asked.
They haven’t removed the defibrillator pads on his chest just pulled a blanket over his stomach but that only minimally covers the damage. There are still visibly warped bullet wounds and jagged surgical scars to be seen. But Dave has seen all that. He’d been there to watch the blood spray out when the scar on Hotch’s shoulder took place. Shouted as the gunshot sprayed out and Hotch grunted, being sent back into the wall behind him. But that was… God, that was a lifetime ago when Hotch was just a kid.
Dave turns behind him and sees Jack frozen in the doorway, eyes wide. “Are you sure you want to do this?”
Jack nods but he can hardly move, can’t force himself to move further into the room. He’s seen his father shirtless, not enough times to really gather anything but he’s seen the damage of years of this job has caused. But this is different. Jack isn’t six, isn’t watching him shave. He’s standing there watching him pull in laborious breaths, struggling to keep living.
“You know,” Rossi sits down in the visitor’s chair. “When you were born he cried so hard that Gideon had to call me.” He looks back at Jack, watching his face for some inclination that he’s going to either come into the room or run away. “Haley was exhausted but… She was beautiful, always was. No matter if she was showing up at the office to haul your father home by the ear in her pajamas or crying her make-up off in the waiting room waiting for your knucklehead father to get out of surgery.”
But he’s missed the point.
He chances a glance to Hotch, watching his pale face twist in discomfort. “You were born at eleven at night and by that point I was already in bed and done for the night by ten kind of guy.” He can still remember sighing and almost ignoring his phone when it had gone off. “I got to the hospital and your dad was sitting on the floor just outside the room, sobbing so hard I thought he’d pass out.” It’s still pretty surprising he didn’t pass out. “Didn’t think he could do it. You were so small, small, and pink and screaming your little head off.”
Jack huffs, smiling as he kicks at the ground. Looking everywhere but his father or Dave.
“But I picked him up,” grabbed him by his shirt and forced him to his feet. Managing the tough love Gideon couldn’t bring himself to enforce. “I don’t think he stopped crying until he fell asleep. Just sitting there with you in his arms crying.” Rossi sighs shakes his head. “Honestly, you were tiny. Had a-- Had a thing with your heart and…” Rossi had held Jack after Hotch and Haley finally managed to catch some sleep. A nurse had figured he or Gideon one had to be a grandfather, why else would they be there? They’d sat there with Jack for about an hour just gushing over how small and cute he was. Trying to keep the baby content so Haley could get some sleep.
Drowsily his voice cuts through the silence, nothing but a ghost of a whisper. “An atrial septal defect.” It’s all he can manage but it’s enough to get their attention. Jack had been born with an atrial septal defect and they knew about it in advance just after Haley’s pregnancy got tricky. It was just a tiny little hole in his atrium, closed before he was a whole year old. That doesn’t mean it didn’t scare the hell out of them first. Leave them to check his bassinet every few hours. To make sure he was okay, still breathing.
“The doctor said I shouldn’t play soccer because of it.” Jack manages a few steps and comes to the very end of the bed. His fingers just barely touching the bed frame. “But you let me play anyways.”
Hotch clears his throat, shakes his head. “I didn’t. Jessica did.” He grimaces, shifting uselessly to find a position that doesn’t hurt. “Said-- She said if you were anything like me you’d find a way.” He’s talked himself breathless, gasping and fighting to breathe. “Might as well-- Might as well make it easy on myself. Just let you do it.” So he had. He signed Jack up for soccer despite his own fears and went to every match he could. Every practice. Until he was the only parent paying attention.
He coughs softly, setting off a weight and ache in his lungs. “Jessica--” he cuts himself off, coughing until he holds his breath and fists the sheets in his hand to keep from still.
Jack looks away, fixes his eyes on the floor.
Dave calls it. Hotch won’t admit he’s not okay and Dave would venture Jack has that same stubborn-streak, doesn’t want to think that Hotch isn’t okay.
“Come on,” Dave motions for Jack to follow him. “Times up, better get out of here before they kick us out.” Five or so minutes, that’s all they had and that’s passed. “You’ll be fine,” Dave promises.
He struggles to get his breath, to say something coherent. “Wait,” he grabs Dave’s shirt. Hospitals are so cold, they’re scary and miserable and he doesn’t want to be here. He wants to go home. “I’m sorry,” he manages. “I’m sorry.”
Dave pulls Jack on, can’t leave him behind, and can’t stay any longer.
“What did he mean?” Jack asks. He keeps looking back, looking over his shoulder to the room. “Why’d he say that?” He has to run to keep up with Dave’s pace. “Dave, please. Why’d he say he was sorry?”
Dave stops and just stands for a moment, looking at the hall before them. “He’s scared,” Dave answers, finally. “He’s just scared, that’s all.”
He doesn't think he’s going to make it. That’s the horrible ugly truth. That’s why he apologized. Just in case.
“Come on,” Dave holds out his arm. Smiles a smile that doesn't even try to make it to his eyes and wraps an arm around Jack. “It’s going to be okay. You know that?”
Jack looks back over his shoulder once more, to the room. He doesn’t buy it for a second but he nods anyway. “Course,” he answers.
“Good. That’s good.”

Jack had been laying down in your shared bedroom after you had left going over different scenarios in his head.
If he would have been honest with his wife from the beginning, none of this would have happened and he had no one to blame but himself.
There was a small knock on the door and Urban stuck his head in to check on his other best friend.
"I know you aren't okay, so I'm not even going to ask." He said while coming over and sitting next to him.
"What if she divorces me?" Jack quietly asks while looking down.
"There isn't a chance in hell she would do that no matter how upset she is at you. The two of you have gone through hell and back this year."
"But you saw the way she looked at me. All I could see was disappointment and I never want her to look at me that way again. I… just…. I'm the worst husband in the world right now."
"You are."
"Thank you for that, Urb."
"I'm your best friend and I have to be honest. All this shit could have been avoided if you had been honest and told her what was going in the first place. I remember telling you when we were 17 how much she loves you and not to do anything to fuck it up, but look how that turned out. We told you from the beginning to stay the hell away from Anitta and I remember Y/N telling you how uncomfortable she made her, but once again you ignored her. You have barely put her feelings into consideration this entire time and you could have ended this shit in May. Now when she actually did fight her, I don't even remember you asking her if she was okay. You were stuck on her breaking a promise to you and not even concerned about her well-being. Keep in mind she was there for you when you didn't have any of this and she always puts you first. You need to start putting your wife first and taking her feelings into consideration. She was right to call off the wedding until you two get on the same page. Truth be told, maybe the two of you got married too early. I know you love each other, but I need my best friends to work on their marriage. She should always be your number 1 priority and you haven't really treated her that way this year."
"I didn't even realize…"
"We all tried to tell you, but at the end of the day, you're an adult that can make his own decisions. We can't tell you what to do. But in the end, you hurt the person who would do anything for you and not give it a second thought."
"I don't even know what to do to try to get back in her good graces."
"Leave her alone and let her be. You should know that better than anyone. She'll talk to you once she's ready."
"What if…."
"No. We aren't making up and speculating things that haven't even happened. Think about it, if she honestly didn't want to be with you, she would have left a long time ago. She obviously sees something in you that makes her want to stay married to you. Just try to work on being better for her."
Jack took Urban's advice and was simply giving you your space. The both of you then decided to let social media know that the wedding would not be happening and of course his phone was blowing up non stop with people wanting answers as to what was going on.
It wasn't until he got a text from his younger brother Clay when it really hit home.
Clay- What the hell did you do to my sister?
Jack- Kept something from her since May and finally told her and she wasn't happy with me
Clay- I'm going to be honest. With as much shit she has put up from you, I'm not surprised if she was the one to call off the wedding. You have no idea what you have right in front of your face and how special she is. She will do absolutely ANYTHING for you and you still manage to fuck up which I don't understand. You brought this shit on yourself. Mom and dad aren't happy with you either. All that Anitta shit could have been dealt with early this year but you didn't shut it down. I don't know if this is related to that, but I have a feeling that it is
Jack- I get it and I'm going to try to do better by her. I already feel like shit as it is.
Clay- You should and there isn't any trying here. Just do it. Otherwise, someone else will really take your girl from you.
After Clay got finished giving his older brother a piece of his mind, he attempted to call you multiple times but you didn't answer.
But you did send him this
You- Clay, I love your brother more than life itself, but for right now I need to focus on loving myself. I am far from being okay, but I'll get there
Clay- If you need me to do anything for you, just say the word
You- I appreciate you. If I need you, I'll let you know
The incoming calls and texts to Jack's phone weren't slowing down any time soon.
Neelam- Umm….. someone want to tell me what’s going on?
2fo- You fucked up, didn't you?
Nas- I was supposed to catch the bouquet, what the hell did you do?
Quiiso- I'm thinking a milkshake probably isn't about to fix this one
Shloob- I can hide you from your wife. Just say the word, but I know your ass did something for it to be called off.
Druski- Sooooo….. I'll let Y/N know her real husband is now available. But seriously, yall good?
Ace- Y/N isn't even answering us so what the hell?
Nic- Sleep with one eye open
Dua- I feel like I want to make a joke right now, but seriously are you two okay?
Dani- Look, I don't know what you did because she won't tell me. However, I am always in your corner and you better fix this and fix it fast. You're my little brother and I adore you, but I have no hesitations to kick your ass when it comes to Lil bit.
Jack didn't even bother responding to anyone because he didn't have the energy. He already knew he fucked up and didn't have to get that said to him at least fifteen more times.
He was going to continue to give you your space and do whatever he needed to do in order to prove to you that he could be the husband that you deserved.
Jack saw all of your many instagram posts with you being on tour and spending time with Dani and Nic and was proud of you for sticking to your word with wanting to focus on yourself.
He admits that he had been selfish
Because he knew any time he needed you that you would be there without a second thought but he didn't give you that said treatment in return as of lately.
He still sent you flowers before every show, but would just send simple text messages wanting to check up on you.
You were responding and he didn't want to press his luck, so he left it at that.
Jack- Missing my baby and I hope you have an amazing show tonight. I love you.
You- Miss you too and I love you right back tenfold. Thank you for the flowers.
It wasn't until the next day that it got worse just when he thought it couldn't.
He had barely woken up when he saw he had a text from you and immediately opened it.
You- Jack, I’m scared shitless. I didn’t want to do this over text but I needed to tell you this as soon as possible. I’m pregnant. WITH TRIPLETS.
Jack was simply staring at the text message over and over again not believing what he was seeing.
He didn't even respond to you and immediately called his mother.
"Jack?"
All she heard were sniffles and was immediately concerned.
"Jack, what's wrong?" Her concern was now growing by the second because of Jack not answering her.
At this point in time, Urban came to ask if Jack wanted to go out to eat and saw his best friend upset and holding the phone to his ear, but not talking which left him confused.
"She… she….there's three of them…."
Urban then took the phone and tried to ask Maggie what was going on, but she didn't have an answer for him and put her on speaker.
"Jack, what? Three of what?"
"Damn, I can’t believe this."
"Can't believe what? We can't help if you don't tell us."
"We're barely even talking and then this…."
"And then WHAT?!"
"Y/N is pregnant."
"Yes! Godfather duties in full effect! I have to facetime her. I guess it's too early for her to start showing since she's still wearing her same tour outfits."
"With triplets." Jack whispered while sitting down.
"Come again?" Urban asked while looking at him dumbfounded.
"WHAT!?" Both of them heard Maggie say through the phone and her mind was going at 100 miles per hour.
"Just hold on. Let me call her." Jack simply held his head in his hands while Urban was looking like a deer caught in headlights.
Then they both heard your voice come through the phone.
Urban made a mental note to call you after because if Jack wasn't okay, he knew you weren't either.
"Y/N, sweetheart?"
"Yes, mom?" She heard through your sniffles.
Now both of her children were crying and she was now responsible to get both of you to calm down and was praying that her words of advice would help.
"Okay, first, congratulations. I am very excited to be a grandmother."
"Got damn it, Jackman! You would have to put three in me instead of one! Overachiever ass." You said through your cries. Saying it over and over again now made it feel more real.
"Baby, please don’t yell at me right now. I can't take it. I already feel like a shitty husband and now I'm scared shitless. Now I'm responsible for my wife, three babies, and twelve pets?"
"Damn." Urban said while scratching the back of his neck.
"Okay, you two. Listen. It's going to be okay, you know that you have a tribe of people behind you to support you."
"I… just.. Jack?"
"Yes, baby?" Jack answered you with his head still in his hands.
"I can't go through another miscarriage again. My heart can't take it. It was only one last time but if I end up losing three?" Jack heard your voice crack and felt some type of way about not being able to console you in person about this.
"We're not going to think like that. You're going to carry them to term this time."
"Okay, I'm going to give you two a chance to talk, okay? Call me if you need me." Maggie said before hanging up. Jack decided that he was going to face time you because he needed to put his eyes on his wife.
"I'll call her after you do." Urban said and left out the room in order to give the two of you privacy.
You saw where Jack was trying to face time you and you immediately answered.
And his heart broke all over again.
Both of your faces were red and puffy from crying and you were steadily wiping away tears from your face.
At least you weren't shaking like you were earlier and Dani had to get you to calm down which took her close to an hour.
You were the first to speak.
"Baby, I'm so scared." You quietly said while looking down and you were surprised that he actually heard you.
"I know, I am too. But we're going to get through this. But we need to stop thinking negatively. All three are healthy and they aren't going to have any issues. Um, Y/N?"
"Oh no. You called me by my first name. You hardly ever do that."
"It's nothing bad, I just. I don't want to tell you what to do. It's just a suggestion. But I need for all four of you…. holy shit… all four of you to be safe."
"You're about to ask me to cancel my tour and come home aren't you?" You said with more tears forming in your eyes and that broke Jack's heart once again. You've worked so hard for your career to take off. It finally was and now it had to be put on hold.
You admit that you wanted kids to Jack months ago, however, the two of you were on better terms than you were now. If it had happened then, you wouldn't have given it a second thought.
"It's the safest option, stink. Having multiples is always considered a high risk pregnancy and the fact that you miscarried before? I need my wife with me so I can keep an eye on her."
You were quiet for a few seconds before nodding your head and agreeing with your husband.
"Okay. I'll let Brandi know. I should be back tomorrow."
"Okay, I love you. So so very much."
"I love you too."
"It's going to be okay."
"I hope so. I don't see how my grandmother did this. Three at one time?"
"My wife is a badass and she's going to be just fine."
Once you hung up with Jack, you took a few minutes to yourself before calling Urban. You already knew that he was worried shitless about you and had been since you originally left.
He picked up without even giving the phone a chance to ring when he saw it was you.
"What do you need me to do? Say the word."
"I just.. I need a hug from my best friend right now but I have to wait until tomorrow to get it."
"You know you never have to ask. Why can't you come back now? I don't know if I can console your husband for another 24 hours because that…. that was a lot."
"I can try and be on a flight tonight."
"Please let me know. I'll come and get you. I'll bring Jack, but I don't trust him to drive right now. I… it's going to be okay Lil Bit."
"Thank you, Urby. I love you."
"Love you too. You know this shit is forever. I.. I know that big ass fight we had might have left you thinking I didn't care about you but that couldn't be further from the truth. You know you're my girl and no matter if we have disagreements, if you call me, I'm dropping everything and I'm going to make sure you're okay. Now do what you need to do in order to get back here so we have eyes on you and I'm going to check on your husband." You couldn't help but to have a few tears slip out and quickly wiped them away.
"I'll let you know when I'll be there."
Once you hung up, you went into overdrive telling Brandi that you needed to go home to Kentucky and that the tour would be postponed.
Dani was quietly helping you pack and eyeing you at the same time.
You had been quiet ever since you had talked to Jack and she was worried about her younger sister.
"Y/N?"
"Hmm?" You stopped your movements to look up at her and she sat down and patted the space next to her telling you to sit.
Once you did, she simply hugged you and the waterworks started all over again.
"I love you so much, you know that right?" Dani said and you immediately nodded while trying not to soak her shirt with your tears.
"You are going to be such an amazing mother to not one, but three beautiful babies that will think the world of you and Jack. You two are going to fix this and be on the same page."
"I hope so."
"No. No hoping. The two of you are going to put in the work to make this happen. Now, I'm going to make sure you get home okay and then you need to spend quality time with you and your husband. Shut out the world. I know you said you needed to focus on yourself, but I have a feeling that this will make the two of you a lot stronger and 2023 will be a better year."
Once the plane had landed, you looked out to see Jack and Urban waiting for you on the tarmac. It was around 1 am and you couldn't get off the plane fast enough in order to hug your husband.
Despite everything that went down, you were still mad at him but you did miss him.
After you descended the steps, you ran full speed and he caught you as your legs wrapped around him.
And that’s when the tears started again.
Jack was rubbing your back trying to console you as best as he could.
"I'm happy you’re back."
"Me too."

It was around 4 in the morning and you were still wide awake. You had a feeling Jack was too since his breathing pattern hadn't changed. You were simply staring off into space and he was the first to break the silence.
"Baby, I know you aren't asleep. What's wrong besides the obvious?"
"There are literally three more heartbeats in my body besides my own. And I don't know when I'm supposed to start to show, but because there are three I can already see a difference from last week. I don't want anyone to know about this because I do not need the stress. I’ve dealt with enough for the past year to last me a lifetime and I know they’ll be able to sense it."
"I agree. We need to keep you as stress free as possible. And I'm still trying to wrap my mind around it."
"I'm still mad at you."
"I know, but we have something else to focus on now. So I guess I'll take a break too because you're my priority."
"Hmm, sure hasn't felt that way as of lately."
"And I'm going to be better about that. I got my ass handed to me by you, my parents, Urban, and Clay. I know I haven't been the best husband towards you and that needs to change. I never ever want you to feel like that ever again. You are literally the most important person in my life and I need to treat you like you are."
"It's not only you, I have things to work on as well."
"And we'll get there but for right now we have them to focus on. Did they tell you the gender when you went to your appointment?"
"It's still too early to tell. I think I can find out in a few more weeks. Maybe we’ll give the envelope to Dani so only she knows. We can do a gender reveal party, that would be cute."
"Okay."
"Oh, babe? Can you do something for me?"
"Anything, what do you need?"
"I was supposed to go to Dua's show tonight in Atlanta and I'm not feeling up to it. Can you go for me? I don't want her to think I forgot or something."
"I'm not…"
"You can leave me for one night. Urban will stay with me and I'll call Dani."
"Okay, I'll go, but I'm coming right back."
"Okay, thank you."
"Of course but I need you to sleep, baby."
"My mind won't slow down. I just…. I want to because I'm exhausted but…"
"Come here."
Jack moved you closer to him and now your head was laying on his chest.
"This works every time. You'll be out in ten minutes."
All Jack did was rub small circles on your back and sure enough you had fallen asleep.
Three days later, you woke up to the news of Dua and Jack apparently dating on your timeline on instagram.
"They cannot be serious. They know I'm married to you so what the hell?"
“They just want something to talk about, so let them. Obviously they’re looking for something since we called off the wedding. Let them speculate all they want. Aren’t you forgetting something?”
“What?”
“The Harlows don’t clear up rumors. If that’s what they want to believe, let them. But I mean seriously? Why did they put you instead of me? It would have made more sense.”
“Baby, not helping.”
“Did I lie?”
“They did it because they saw us backstage together at her show and of course they took it and ran with it. Oh, and she definitely was not excited to see me and that’s what made me facetime you.”
“Oh, shit. I have an idea.”
“Oh no.”
“If they want to talk so much about things that they don’t know, let’s give them something to talk about.”
“Baby…..”
“Run with it and troll in the comments and I’m about to call Bryson.”
“WHAT???!”
“We need all of the distraction that we can get to keep them from finding out that I’m pregnant for the time being and this is the perfect distraction. There’s a movie premiere coming up and he can go with me to L.A. and then I’ll come back home. I’ll do my New Year's Eve performance with Miley and then I’m going ghost.”
“Neelam and Brandi need to know before they want to kill us.”
“Already done.” You said as you finished typing the text message.
You were currently laying down upstairs and eating fruit that was propped up on your now protruding belly. It was a very small bump, but it was there.
You then heard Curse’s voice and her talking to Jack and Urban since the door to your bedroom was wide open.
And she had asked for you.
“I need to talk to her, I just… this has gone on for too long.”
“Yasmin, wait!”
“Wait for what? What in the world are you two hiding and being so protective of her for? I mean you’re protective of her anyway, but now it’s like the two of you are on overdrive.”
You then sent a text to Urban to let him know to send her upstairs so that the two of you could talk. Even though the two of you had been interacting on social media, you never really talked about what happened and what had gone down between the two of you. You quickly covered your stomach with one of Jack’s New Balance sweatshirts that you were wearing as you heard her footsteps.
She made her way into the bedroom, but you knew she was hesitant.
“Come sit.” You quietly said and moved your many snacks off the bed. Jack would kill you for getting so many crumbs everywhere later, but he was just happy that you were eating healthy.
She did as she was told and it was quiet for a few minutes until she broke it.
“I’m sorry and I know that doesn’t even begin to cover it. I’m sorry it also took me this long to come and talk to you about it with just the two of us. I was just so mad and so upset and I… something similar happened in my last relationship and all I got were flashbacks. So once again, I knew deep down that you would never do that to Urban and I just feel so horrible about the whole thing. You didn’t deserve that.”
“I forgive you.”
“I… wait, what? Just like that? That was too easy. Don’t you want to scream at me?”
“Yes, like that. I’m trying this new thing where I don’t want to cause myself to be under a lot of stress and your explanation made sense. Just know that I would never ever hurt you or Urban that way.”
“There’s something different about you.”
Oh shit.
“Different how? What do you mean?”
“I literally had to fight tooth and nail to get up here to see you. I know that they are both very protective of you but what I just saw was on another level.”
“Hmm.” You said while taking a drink of your sparkling water.
“Y/N….. are you pregnant? That would be the only thing that would make sense. You canceled your tour, you’re back home, and….”
All you did was simply lift up your sweatshirt to show her.
“OH MY FUCKING SHIT I WAS RIGHT!”
“But it’s not just one.”
“Come again?”
“There’s three.”
“Holy shit. Did Jack faint when you told him?”
“I was scared shitless so he found out through a text message because I was still mad at him about something, but Urban told me he thought he was going to. Thank goodness he was there with him.”
“And that was all natural? Like no IVF?”
“No, besides my mom is a triplet. She flipped her shit too when I told her.”
“Wow, you lost one, but gained three. That’s a blessing.”
“It is, even though I didn’t see it that way before when I first found out.”
“Well, I’ll be here to help you every step of the way too.”
“And I appreciate you. I already have to deal with two grown babies downstairs and now I’m going to have three more?”
“Ehh, they’re going to have to learn how to fend for themselves from now on.”
“Yasmin, we can’t be talking about those two idiots downstairs because that will never be a reality.”
“WHAT DID YOU JUST CALL US?”
“STOP FUCKING EAVESDROPPING URBAN HENRY!”
“I HAD TO MAKE SURE MY GIRLS WERE OKAY!”
“WE’RE FINE, NOW ORDER US PIZZA.”
“BABY, NO! TOO GREASY!”
“JACKMAN! BABY NUMBER TWO WANTS IT SO GET IT!”
“FINE!”
“That man can never tell you no.”
“Mm hmm and just wait if we have girls, it’s going to be ten times worse. Especially if they look like me.”
After you had spent the day with Yasmin, she took it upon herself to make you a care package with all your favorite foods (that you could still have) with the help of Urban. She also added bath bombs, candles, a few pregnancy books, and even three matching onesies.
Not wanting to take a bath by yourself, you dragged your husband into the bathroom with you so you could put one of the bath bombs to good use. You were currently laying on his chest when he got an alert saying that someone was outside the house at the front door.
You knew it wasn’t Urban seeing as he went out with Yasmin, so you were confused as to who it could be.
And then you heard her voice through the speaker.
"Jack open the fucking door and let me see my baby cousin since neither of you are answering your phones. If not, I will find a way inside."
“Is that? Is that Nicole?!”
“She doesn’t know, does she?” Jack asked and you looked up at him to shake your head no.
“Baby, out of all people you should have told her because you know she constantly wants to terrorize me on a daily basis. And the fact that she hasn’t seen you? She’s going to think I kidnapped you.”
Before you could respond to him, you heard her voice once again.
“Fine. That’s it. Since nobody's answering me, I’m bringing in back up. Private Garden is now on their way too because they’re concerned about the two of you.”
“Oh, shit.”

my love will find you
aaron hotchner x female!reader
word count: 1.9k
a/n: another hurt/comfort fic because i’m incapable of righting pure fluff. this was inspired by the incredibly sad but beautiful children’s book ‘wherever you are, my love will find you’ by nancy tillman. i have quoted some parts of the book, and those are the quotes in italics. i first read this book to the toddlers i work with two weeks after my bestfriend, my grandmother died a few years ago. it brought me to tears, and is truly one of my favorite children’s books.
warnings: discussions of miscarriage, nothing graphic
****
You gently knocked on Jack’s door after seeing the light peek through the space where the door met the floor. It was nearing ten o’clock, the ten year old should be in bed by now.
Once you heard the quiet ‘come in’, you opened the door to find him tucked in, little lamp on with a few books on his bed.
“It’s getting late, bud. Why don’t you wrap up your last book for the night.” He nodded, closing the book in his hand. Sitting on the edge of his bed, you recognized the cover, and felt your heart drop in your chest.
“Is anything bothering you, honey?” He let out a sigh, and he reminded you so much of Aaron in that moment. Usually, you loved to see the resemblance in your husband and son. But this big sigh was too much for the little boy to go through.
“My art teacher had us make mother’s day cards at school today. All of my friends just stood up and grabbed a piece of paper, but I kind of froze for a second.” You would do anything to bring back Haley, to put this little boy out of the pain he’s gone through at such a young age. “I asked my teacher if I could make three. They were supposed to be a surprise, but I made one for mom, you, and aunt Jess.”
You couldn’t help the small smile on your face. He was such a sweet boy. He was the reason you and Aaron talked about having a baby of your own. Give Jack a sibling, maybe spread some more love in this family.
“I’m just missing my mom a lot today, that’s all. And this book makes me feel a little better about it.”
You took the book from his hands, tracing your fingers down the front cover.
“You know, I’m the one that gave you this book. When my nana died, this book really helped me stay connected to her. I’m glad it does the same for you too.” A smile crept across your face, and you stood up from his bed. “I know you may be a little too old for this, but would you mind if I read this to you? I’m feeling a little sad tonight too, and I think this book could make me feel better.”
He smiled, and scooched closer to the wall to give you some space in his bed. “What are you sad about y/n/n?” You shook your head, not wanting to hurt the little boy any more than he already was.
“I’m just missing daddy. But he’ll be home tomorrow.” You turned to the first page, getting ready to read the short little book.
“I wanted you more than you ever will know, so I sent love to follow wherever you go.”
It had been a while since you read this to Jack, and you were already starting to tear up.
“It never gets lost, never fades, never ends… paint til you’re blue… there’s no place, not one, where my love can’t find you.”
You wanted Aaron to be here, needed Aaron to be here. Especially today.
“And if someday you’re lonely, or someday you’re sad, or you strike out at baseball, or think you’ve been bad… just lift up your face, feel the wind in your hair. That’s me, my sweet baby, my love is right there.”
Your hand rested on your stomach, that was full of new life just a few weeks ago.
“If you’re still my small babe or you’re all the way grown, my promise to you is you’re never alone.”
As you flipped to the last page, you quickly wiped away the tears in your eyes. You just have to be strong for another few minutes.
“You are my angel, my darling, my star… and my love will find you wherever you are.”
It was an incredibly sad children’s book, but it was really for the parents more than the kids.
“Okay honey, do you feel a little better now? Do you want to read another book?” He shook his head.
“I’m okay now. I think I’ll just talk to mom for a minute, then go to sleep.” He turned his lantern on, it was what he used to talk to Haley when an adult wasn’t around with the special candle. “Thank you for reading to me, y/n/n.”
You smiled. “Anytime, Jack. Goodnight, I love you.” You leaned down and pressed a kiss to the top of his head.
“Love you too. ‘Night.”
You quietly closed his door and headed down the hall to your own bedroom. Once secure in your own closed room, you let your tears fall free.
It had been a long forty eight hours without Aaron. The team got called on a case in the middle of the night, but you were left behind due to your twelve week scan with your ob/gyn. You assured Aaron you would be okay on your own.
But you couldn’t have known what was going to be on that scan. Or, rather, what was missing.
It was strange to think that only eight hours ago you were still thinking of your baby. How you were going to tell everyone, tell Jack, start thinking of baby names. You should’ve known better than to get so excited so fast.
You don’t know how long you were staring at your laptop screen for, but when you heard the front door open, your heart dropped again.
You’d left a message when you couldn’t get a hold of him, figuring he was on the jet or wrapping up with the local PD. But it was cryptic, you couldn’t tell him in a voicemail.
Once he came into the bedroom, you stood up, meeting his gaze. His tie was already off, undershirt poking through from his slightly unbuttoned dress shirt. He was stressed out. And it didn’t take a genius to know why.
“Hi, how was the case?” He kicked his shoes off, slightly shaking his head before giving you a quick kiss.
“It was just another case. I, I got your message. Is everything alright?”
Just rip off the bandaid, y/n. Quick, as quick as they told you.
You stood in front of him, your husband, holding onto the news that would ruin your future in one second. Wringing your hands together, your eyes began to water again. God, why couldn’t he just have been there with you.
“I lost the baby, Aaron.”
He stopped his miniscule movements, his eyes falling open the slightest bit. Only you ever noticed the change in his eyes.
“They said it was probably right after the eight week scan, that I lost them. It wasn’t anything I did, they say it just… happens.” A tear fell down your face, and you moved to wipe it away. “I’m sorry, I should’ve called you right away.”
“Honey,” He walked over to me, holding my hands in his own. He opened his mouth a few times, trying to form a sentence with all the emotions running through his head. But he couldn’t. You couldn’t either when they first told you. Instead, you saw tears form in his eyes, as he choked back a sob. “Sorry,” He started, trying to be strong for you.
But you wouldn’t let him bury this. Not this pain. You wrapped your arms around his waist, and he buried his head in your shoulder. Your tears were staining his shirt, and you could hear him sniffle every few seconds. But you started to feel whole again with his arms wrapped around you.
He lifted his head after a minute, pressing a kiss to your head before tucking you under his chin. “I’m sorry I wasn’t there with you. You shouldn’t have had to be there alone.”
“It’s not your fault. We couldn’t have known.” Your eyes welled with tears again, and you held on tighter to your husband. “I know it was only a few months, but I really loved them Aaron.”
“I know, I do too.” You untangled yourself from him, wanting to see his face as you talked through another incredible loss in his life.
“They scheduled me for a d&c on monday, just to be sure everything is cleared out.” They had to make everything sound so clinical. As if this wasn’t a human, your human growing inside of you. “You’ll come with me, right?”
“Of course.” He noticed you wringing your hands again, fighting back the next wave of tears washing over you. “Y/n, talk to me.”
You sat at the end of your bed, resting your head in your hands, letting the tears slowly, evenly escape your eyes.
“My whole life, all I’ve wanted was to be a mom. I wanted to have babies running around my house, their toys filling up every room you walk in. It was the one thing I was always sure about. When I found out I was pregnant, I was so excited that my dream was coming true. That we could expand our family, we could give Jack a sibling. But now,” You lifted your head, Aaron leaning against the dresser. “I just can’t help but think this was a sign. That I’m not meant to have my own baby.”
He immediately pushed off the dresser, moving to kneel in front of you. “Y/n,”
You shook your head, wanting to finish before he started. “I love our life, Aaron. I was devastated this afternoon. I was crying in the parking lot of the doctor’s office for thirty minutes, before I went to pick up Jack. But once I saw him, I felt better.” You reached out to hold one of his hands. “He told me today that he made a mother’s day card for Haley, Jess, and me. We talked about Haley, and how he misses her. And then we read the book I gave him after she died,”
“Wherever You Are My Love Will Find You,” He interrupted you, and you smiled. The book seemed to have a lasting effect on everyone in the Hotchner house.
“Aaron, I love being another mom to Jack. I love being your wife, I love my relationship with Jess, I loved our baby, and I love where we are right now.” You brought his hand to your lips, lightly kissing his knuckles before you finished. “Maybe I’m not meant to have my own baby. But I love our son, and our family. And once we grieve the one we almost got, that’s all I want to focus on. At least for right now.”
Once you finished, and he soaked in your words, he gave you a true Aaron Hotchner smile, dimples and all. A stray tear fell down his face, and you quickly moved to brush it away.
“I love you so much, you know that right?”
You smiled in return. “I love you too.”
He leaned in to kiss you, soft and slow. A few stray tears mixed together between the two of you, emotions all over the place right now. But it was going to be okay with Aaron by your side.
You slowly pulled away, giving him one final kiss before he wrapped his arms around your waist.
“We’ll get through this together.” You nodded, resting your forehead against his. “Allways.”

Jack
A/n: I found this little one shot while I was looking through the deep dark depths of my google docs the other day and figured I might as well share it. Its a young Joker fic, and my fist time writing for the joker so please take it easy on me!😁
Pairing: Joker x OFC
Summary: A brief glimpse into the Jokers past, memories that he would rather keep buried, memories that reminded him of someone that held his heart. A heart that now burned for Gotham's reckoning.
Warnings: Talks of abuse, swearing, angst, vague talk of death
Jack found himself climbing the dirty, half rotten stairs of his apartment building. The light bulbs on every other floor, blown out or stolen, casting a darkness over him as he made his way up.
His mother had one of her 'friends' as she liked to call them, over. So he made himself scarce for the afternoon, like he always managed to. Jack weaseled his way out of the apartment when those creeps were over. Especially the ones who would come right in and give him those looks. Those perverted sideways eyes when his mother was too plastered to notice any different. Looks that sent a piercing shiver across his whole body, and an uneasiness to settle in his gut. He much preferred the men who would come over and pretended like he didn't exist.
The sun had long since started to sink in the sky as he climbed the stairs towards home and Jack knew he had to make it before the streetlights in the narrows started to flicker. The evil in his apartment was one thing, but the evils that lurched about once all the sunlight was extinguished in the sky was much more frightening.
Rounding the last flight of stairs, his eyes landed on a girl sitting at the top of them. Her back pressed against the door jam of the closest apartment door. One foot stretched out in front of her blocking his path and the other bent, shaking vigorously on the next step down.
She was sucking on a red popsicle, as her fingers drummed against the skin of her knee that poked free from a hole in her ratty jeans.
Jack knew she just moved in a few months back, but he never crossed paths with her before now. However every time he opened the door to let in one of his mothers 'friends', she would be sitting at the top of those stairs. Usually a pack of playing cards in her hands, flicking them one by one, aimlessly down to the next landing.
"What flavor is that?" Jack asked, curious at what her voice would sound like. He'd been intrigued by her presence the moment he saw her all those weeks ago.
Pulling the half melted popsicle from her mouth, the girl turned her head slightly to gaze towards him. Her dark brown hair in a curly mess that covered half of her face, but not enough for Jack to miss the darkness of her left eye. It almost appeared black, the deep brown of her iris engulfing her pupil, giving her a truly ominous appearance.
"Cherry." She answered, her voice nothing what he expected. It held a delicate raspiness, nowhere near the point where it matched Ms. Emerson two floors up who had been smoking 3 packs a day since the depression. There was a softness to it though, one that made Jack want to hear more from her. "You live in the apartment cross from me don't you?"
Nodding his head, Jack shoved his hands into the front pockets of his jeans. "Sure do."
She sat in silence after that, and he stood a few stairs below quietly staring at her. His feet shuffling against the creaky old floor board, wondering if this would be the end of their talk. Perhaps it'd be the last time they spoke at all. Jack knew the Narrows had people shuffling around from place to place, like one of them scam shell games. She very well could be gone by morning.
"I can bring you one next time…. If you want?" Swinging her leg around, she sat so she was facing him. Both feet planted one step down as she licked the red sugary liquid that was starting to drip down the wooden popsicle stick and onto the top of her hand.
"I got two left in the freezer." Her voice was soft and held a nervousness that made fighting off a sly grin for Jack very difficult.
"Yeah, I'd like that." Hustling up the stairs, Jack found himself sitting down beside her.
His eyes getting a better glance at the girl, in the low light of the stairwell. Now he could tell she was using her hair to hide the right side of her face. Her right eye was an awful shade of purple, and the lid swollen so badly Jack knew she must be having a hard time seeing.
As he let his eyes pan across her face, he noticed her lip that was stained with cherry popsicle was also busted open. The girl next to him seemed to have come from a similar home as himself. It was near luck that Jack hadn't gotten his ass handed to him by one of his mother friends in a while. Talking back was a habit that he couldn't quit no matter how much he was beaten for it. Not to mention the fit of laughter that usually escaped his thin lips as a belt or a fist swung in his direction didn't help either.
"You got a name?" He asked, finally dragging his eyes back to meet her dark gaze.
"Billy."
Furrowing his brow and giving his head a subtle tilt, he wondered if she was fucking with him.
"That's a boy's name." He puffed out a small laugh. However the girl beside him didn't react at all.
"I know, you don't gotta remind me." She shrugged her shoulders, before finishing off the popsicle and throwing the wood stick down the stairs.
"It's your nickname right?" Jack couldn't quite stop himself with the questions. Usually he kept to himself and avoided people, but she… there was just something different about her. Something that drew Jack in like a moth to a flame.
He knew his interest was purely the result of her moving directly across the hall and appearing to be close to his age, if she had moved three flights up and was a little frilly girl, Jack was sure he wouldn't have even batted an eyelash in her direction as he carried on home.
Shaking her head and rolling her eye, she was the one to laugh now. "No, my momma lost her first baby, who was a boy when he was real little. She ain't been right in the head since." Jack watched as she picked at the frayed edge of the side pocket of her faded army green vest while she spoke. "So when she found out she was having me, she just knew I was a boy. The doctors told her different, but she didn't really care what they thought. So she named me Billy."
Shoving her hands into her vest pockets now, she quickly pulled out her deck of cards and began to shuffle them absentmindedly.
"Billy's not a bad name, I mean there was Billy the kid that robbed banks in the old west right? Like some badass cowboy outlaw… Maybe one day I could live up to that name." Jack's eyes watched as she expertly flipped the cards against themselves, the loud noise filling the hallway.
"Hate to break it to you, Billy the kid never robbed banks. He's just known for murdering people."
Peering up at him from the corner of her eye, her posture deflated, "Oh…." Billy sighed.
They sat there in silence after that, Jack feeling some form of regret telling her about Billy the kid. The girl had seemed thrilled in her blissful unawareness, so happy with only a shared name that connected the two. Which was utterly ridiculous, and in any other circumstance Jack would have enjoyed watching the girls dreams come crashing down from the clouds. However it was like a small light had been snuffed inside of her and Jack hated that he caused that. Which blew his mind, cause why would he care about some girl he just met and her no good thoughts. She'd be gone in a few weeks, out of his life for good! The narrows would swallow her up just like it did the other kids, and he really shouldn't have cared. But he did on some level, and it fucking bothered him.
"Billy where the fuck you at, you little piece of shit?" An angry voice screamed from just beyond the door she had been leaning against. The abruptness caused the girl to flinch and drop the stack of cards she was holding.
They fell like dominos down the stairs, fluttering off in all sorts of directions. Making a fucking mess.
Jack watched as she threw herself off the steps and down the stairs chasing after all the playing cards. "Fuck I'm gonna be in so much trouble." She muttered to herself as she frantically began the daunting task.
Without much thought, Jack did something that surprised himself again. He stood up and grabbed a few of the cards that had fallen towards the top of the stairs. Bunching them together in his hand, before looking down at the Ace of hearts that was face up. The corner dog-eared like a well read book, from constant use probably.
"I said where the fuck you at girl." A man ripped the door open to her apartment, and stumbled out. The stench of bad tequila filling the air almost immediately.
"I-im I'm sorry I…" Billy stuttered out as she crawled on the ground grabbing the last of the cards. Her hands trembled bad enough that Jack could tell from where he stood that she was terrified.
Eyeing the man cautiously, Jack saw him take a step closer to the edge of the stairs. His arm raised slightly, fingers twitching, ready to strike her hard when she finally made her way back to him.
"Sorry, I tripped into Billy while I was coming down the steps. Made her drop her cards." Jack lied with a laugh, and held up the few in his hands. "I was just helping her pick them up."
The drunken slob of a man, took a steadying breath, probably knowing he couldn't pummel a kid that wasn't his own. The man's overtly round face, covered in a patchy beard and a badly trimmed mustache that had the remnants of cheese puffs littered throughout it, gave Jack a nasty look. His lip turned up in pure disgust.
"Yeah well watch where you fucking walk next time." He flicked his hand at Jack, and then turned his attention to Billy. Who was now standing up straight at the bottom of the landing, cards in hand. "You, " He pointed at her with a chubby accusatory finger, "pick up your goddamn mess and get in the house, and don't make me fucking tell you again."
Jack watched as the man turned ungracefully on his heel and stumbled back from the pit in which he came. Slamming the door behind him with such power, some of the cracked plaster on the ceiling fell to the floor.
"You didn't have to lie."
"I know." He heard her take a few hesitant steps up, until she was standing side by side with himself. "I ain't in the mood to watch an ass kicking at the moment." He couldn't stop the tiny laugh that escaped him at his own humorless joke.
Tilting his head towards Billy, he finally held out the few cards that he managed to collect. She greedily took them back into her possession, and Jack watched as the girl seemed to be counting them to herself. Her fingers flipping past each number making sure they were all accounted for.
"Thank you." Her voice was softer than anything Jack had ever heard as she finished what she was doing and tucked the cards back into her vest pocket.
"He hit you a lot?" Jack asked aloud, as the girl pushed past him and towards her apartment door.
Shrugging her shoulders, Billy nodded her head. "Not as much as my real dad did, so I'm lucky enough. I know some kids got it worse than me, so I'm not complaining."
"Lucky?" He quirked a brow at her choice of words. Luck was nowhere to be seen in the Narrows, especially not in that girls apartment.
Perhaps the girl had been struck in the head so many times it actually made her dense. It wouldn't be a surprise to him if that was the case, because no one, and he meant no one, would ever call themselves lucky with the life she seemingly led.
"You got to believe in something, right?" She smirked. "Luck seems more plausible than some god or a superhero saving me. Plus I got this." Reaching back into her pocket the girl drew out a single card, and quickly flicked it over to him.
Jack caught it and huffed an amused laugh. His eyes falling upon the joker card that belonged to her deck. The jester was skillfully juggling three knives while he balanced with one foot on a large green and purple circus ball. The character itself was off putting, his face painted white, his lips smudged with red paint that made his maniacal grin even more pronounced. His jester hat constructed out of oddly colored rattlesnakes, multiple wrapped around one another to give its iconic shape. Their rattling tails hung as the bells at the tips. It was clearly far from the typical playing card one could get at the Bodega down the block.
"It's my lucky card, bad things don't happen as often when I have it on me."
Jack couldn't help but continue to stare at it. The wheels in his mind spun endlessly with hundreds of questions, but he knew he'd never have time to get them answered. She was on borrowed time as it was, and he didn't want to hold her up further. Cause if he did, the girl probably wouldn't be able to see at all next time he ran into her. The guy inside, smashing her other eye to the point it was swelled shut as well.
Looking up into her eyes, Jack attempted to hand it back. But Billy just shook her head at him.
"You keep it, it's the least I can do after you saved my ass. Maybe it will bring you some luck." She smiled at him before turning and opening her apartment door making her exit.
"If you give me this, won't your luck be gone?" His words stopped her in her tracks. But all Jack could focus on was her soft laughter.
Without turning to face him, she pulled another card free from her pocket, twisting it expertly between two fingers so the face of it was in Jack's direction. An inverted match to the very card that he held in his hands. "There's always two jokers."
Just as quick as she pulled it free, Billy shoved it back into her pocket, "See you around." She chuckled before disappearing into her apartment. Leaving Jack alone in the stairwell, staring quizzically at the place the girl once was. His lip twitching up in amusement, before he shook his head clear of their encounter.
°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
The joker cracked an eye open as he startled awake. It was a rare occurrence in recent years that his dreams would startle him out of sleep. That was only reserved for a specific time in his life, and that was not now anymore.
His half sleep blurred vision instantly focused on the ever growing water stain that was spreading across the ceiling tiles. It's dark brownish edges tainting the once white paint, giving the already run down room a greater sense of abandonment.
His hand stretched out wantingly, his long fingers gripping into the cool sheets of the spot next to him. The spot that had been vacant for many years now. An emptiness that slowly consumed him in absolute sorrow, and then engulfed him in a burning rage, no one could ever put out.
It was a pain that radiated through the Joker like a poison when his mind traveled to her. Pleading for him to remember, remember a time when things were pleasant. When she was by his side, and in his bed, places he could keep her safe.
But he couldn't, the day Gotham took her from him was the day its reckoning started. They would all pay, every last one of them.

Summary: You’re dating Brock who is a regular at Sam’s bar. What happens when things with Brock go south?
A/N: Welp. This is my longest fic so far! It has darker themes than my previous stories so please proceed with caution and let me know if I missed any warnings. My lovely @river-soul is to thank for reading this story for any errors. Though I did edit it again after they read it so mistakes are all mine. Enjoy!
You held your breath as you approached the door. It shouldn’t have been the last place you looked for your boyfriend but you were really hoping he wasn’t lying about getting sober. You steeled yourself and pushed open the door to the town's watering hole “Falcons,” searching the dimly lit bar for any sign of Brock. Instead you saw your friend the owner, Sam, behind the bar and gave a small smile as you approached him.
“Hey Sam. Have you seen Brock? I can’t find him and he was supposed to be home hours ago.” You shifted around nervously. Sam grabbed your hands and gave you a sympathetic smile.
“Hey gorgeous. I wish I could give you better news but yeah. He’s here.” Sam gestured to the back wall of the bar with his head. “He’s been here for a few hours. I was about to call you, I didn’t serve him but it looks like his friends have been getting drinks for him all night. I should have noticed earlier, I am so sorry Y/N.”
Sam was the only one who knew about Brock’s habit. Being the only decent bar in a 20 mile radius, “Falcons” always drew in townies and out of staters alike. You had gotten to know Sam well over the course of your relationship with Brock. Sam would always call you when Brock was there well past last call or if he was about to make a scene. He was always so sweet and understanding when it came to Brock. He even helped you get Brock to your car on more than one occasion when Brock was too drunk to stand up straight.
Your eyes caught his figure slumped over a table along the back wall. You squeezed Sam’s hands, took a deep breath and willed your tears not to fall as you made your way to the back of the bar. You felt Sam’s gaze on you as you approached the table, Brock shifted and turned to meet your gaze.
“Baby! You found me!” Brock slurred. He stumbled getting up and you had to catch him before he hit the ground.
You sighed, struggling under his weight. “Brock I thought you said you were done coming here. We had an agreement, you promised you’d stop drinking.”
“I know baby but look, the guys wanted to celebrate Jack’s promotion and I couldn’t say no.” Brock gestured to the other men playing pool. “Jack’s promotion. Jack’s. Not mine like it should have been but Jack’s.”
You looked around the bar, it was close to last call so the bar patrons seemed to thin out except for the group loudly playing pool. You managed to catch Sam’s eye and he gave you a sympathetic smile before you turned back to Brock.
“I know Brock, why don’t we get you home and we can talk about all this in the morning. I’ll make you some breakfast and coffee and you can tell me all about how you should have gotten the promotion.”
You slowly managed to get Brock in his jacket and shuffling through the bar towards the exit. This wasn’t the first time it happened where you scoured the town trying to find your boyfriend. You were hoping it was the last when he almost went to a hotel with someone from out of town and you managed to catch him, thanks to Sam calling you to let you know what was happening. Brock was so apologetic, bought you flowers and jewelry for two weeks straight. He didn’t have a sip of alcohol and he proved every night that all he needed was you and your sweet sounds to get him drunk.
When you got to the door of the bar you turned around and caught Sam’s worried gaze. He gave you a small nod which you returned before exiting the bar into the bitter cold. You managed to not only get Brock buckled into the passenger's seat, but up the three flights of stairs to his apartment. You hung up your coat and went to take Brock’s coat off when he forcefully grabbed your arms and started shaking you.
“You think I was too dumb to get the promotion don’t you? You think Jack should have gotten it because he can hold his liquor. I can hold mine just as well as Jack can.” Brock was screaming in your face and you could smell the cheap beer on his breath. “You’re fucking him aren’t you? You’re fucking Jack.”
Your mouth dropped open and your eyes went wide at his accusation. “Brock I would never do that. I love you, you know that.”
You had to placate him before his anger escalated any more. The last time Brock got it in his mind you were cheating on him you had to wear long sleeved shirts for two weeks, in July. Sam was extra vigilant when Brock came around after that. Watering down his drinks or refusing to serve him at all. Sam didn’t know exactly what happened but he did not trust Brock after that.
Brock dropped your arms and stomped to the bedroom.
“If you love me you’re going to prove it. Now.”
He took off his shirt and threw it in your direction. You just stood there frozen. He got demanding sometimes sure but never like this. Never with this cold detached look. Your breathing became quick and shallow and you could hear the blood pulsing in your ears. Your inability to move drew Brock’s anger out like a pistol. He was back where you stood in seconds raising his hand and hitting you across your face. You couldn’t breathe. You looked back up at Brock just in time for him to hit you again, this time his ring caught your cheek and you let out a pained cry. You touched your face and saw blood when you pulled your hand back.
“Get yourself cleaned up and then get out. You are pathetic.” Brock spat as he stumbled to his bedroom and slammed the door. You went over to the kitchen to grab a handful of paper towels before grabbing your jacket and leaving. You spent the rest of the night in your apartment restless, getting up multiple times to make sure the doors lock was latched and the windows were secure.
The next morning you woke up to a barrage of texts from Brock apologizing. As you sifted through each pathetic excuse you heard a knock at the door. Tentatively you went to the door and saw Brock as you looked through the peephole with a bouquet of white roses and what looked like a bag of take out from your favorite breakfast place.
“Baby come on let me in. I didn’t mean what I said last night, you know I love you. It was just that Jack got me so angry and I just snapped.” He sighed and knocked again. “Come on Y/N open up and let's put all of this behind us.”
You trembled as you slid open the chain lock and twisted the deadbolt to let Brock in. When you opened the door he saw your face cut and bruise from where he hit you.
“Oh baby let me make it all better.”
He dipped down to kiss you and you winced in pain as your face puckered to kiss back. Brock continued his assault on your lips ignoring your pained groans. When he finally broke away he set the food and flowers on your kitchen counter. Abandoning the peace offerings, he returned to you and gripped your thighs so hard you had no choice but to jump and lift your legs around his waist. He carried you into the bedroom to continue apologizing for how he behaved last night.
After Brock left a few hours later you took a boiling hot shower trying to wash off any and all memory of the last 24 hours. You had been texting Sam to let him know you were okay, and that you had managed to get Brock home safely last night. Conveniently leaving out the more heartbreaking details. Sam had become your biggest confidant and your best friend. He had a way to soothe the ache in your soul with his honeyed words. He would just worry if he knew what Brock did, and you didn’t want to put that heaviness on his kind heart. You managed to make it through the day with no other incidents with Brock. You didn’t want to talk to him and even when he was with you, you had no idea what to say. He didn’t seem to notice your silence anyway just taking whatever he could from you with no regard to how you felt. You were getting ready for bed when your phone went off with a text from Sam.
“Hey gorgeous, I just got to the bar but it looks like Brock’s been here for a few hours. New kid was on tonight and didn’t know not to serve him.”
You cringed. You didn’t want to go get Brock but you knew if you didn’t someone else could get hurt. You put on your jeans, a t-shirt, and sneakers and left for the bar. You managed to forget your coat even though it was well into January making the air that much more piercing. When you arrived at Falcons your eyes immediately went to the bar seeking out Sam. When he looked up his face was clouded with a mixture of anger and concern. He marched over to you and guided you into the back room before any other patron noticed your presence.
“You said you were okay. That everything was fine last night.” Sam rushed out with concern.
You shot him a confused look before remembering. The bruises on your arms from where Brock grabbed you. The cut and bruise on your face from where he had hit you not 24 hours before. Tears started draining from your eyes and Sam reached out to pull you close.
“I don’t know what happened. It’s like a switch flipped yesterday, he’s never been like that with me before. I don’t know what to do Sam. I don’t want to be with him anymore but I am so scared of what he’ll do if I try to break it off.” You were numb, whether it was from the cold or the realization that you had to break up with Brock knowing what he was capable of doing to you.
“Okay you’re going to leave, go home. I’ll handle Brock tonight and come over tomorrow to help you figure out what you want to do. You’re not alone Y/N I’ll protect you.” Sam pressed a kiss on your temple.
You breathed out a sigh of relief. You knew you could count on Sam. He was your rock and everything you both needed and wanted in a person. Sam led you out of the stock room quietly and towards the front door. Unfortunately luck wasn’t on your side because Brock was at the bar trying to get another drink when he noticed you and Sam.
“Baby? Are you fucking kidding me? You’re fucking Sam?! I knew you were just a cheating little slut. After everything I’ve given you. After everything I’ve done for you and this is how you repay me?” Brock slurred out and he made his way over to you.
“Man shut up.” Sam spat as he placed himself between you and Brock. “You are no longer welcome in this bar. You are banned and you are going to stay away from Y/N. Do I make myself clear?”
Brock set his unsteady gaze at Sam and gave him a sly smirk, “You want the dead fish? Go ahead and be my guest. Worst lay I’ve ever had.” Brock looked past Sam and into your eyes. “You hear me sweetheart? You are nothing without me. You are broken, damaged goods and I’m the only one who could want someone like you.”
Your hold on Sam’s arm grew tighter at Brock’s words. He had to be right, didn’t he? Your glassy eyes moved from Sam’s stoic face over to Brock’s. As you started to step forward into Brocks arms Sam gently grabbed you and pulled you into his chest.
“She is not broken.” Sam declared to Brock before turning his attention to you. His eyes were deep and soulful when he spoke to you. “You are not broken.”
You reached up and placed a hand on Sam’s face unable to break eye contact. You leaned up and gently kissed Sam. He returned your kiss with as much warmth as he could manage. When you pulled away Sam gave you a cheeky grin before you turned to face Brock.
“No. I am not broken. And we are not together, it’s over Brock.” As you turned your back on Brock to face Sam you felt Brock's hand on your shoulder but no sooner did he touch you did Sam have him on the ground writhing in pain.
“You do not come near her or touch her ever again. You are not welcome in my bar and if you come back I will call the cops. You are nothing here.”
Sam grabbed Brock by the collar and threw him out the front door. Once the commotion was over Sam guided you to a table and left only to bring you back some water and french fries.
“I hope this means I can take you out on a date now. I never like that guy.” Sam grabbed your hand and smiled.
“Yeah, I don’t think I liked him very much either. Besides I kind of had my eye on this bar owner for a while now.” You teased as Sam threw a fry at you.
You sat with Sam at Falcons until last call. Hopeful for the new chapter that was beginning.

i love you so fucking much - coops proposal
Haha, I feel like shit so here have some fluff. Also apparently I can't just write a cute date, it always turns into some grand gesture, it's called ~love starved~ (I just had a major stress thingy, which is why I can't put my own thoughts into words, only coops cuteness)
(I had paper rings by Taylor Swift on repeat, so do with that what you will - okay update 24 hours later: there will be a paper rings lyric fic :))
And a big thabk you to my beta @tonksandherpinkhair !! I really really appreciate it!!
!! Okay so I havent been very active on tumblr lately and I literally just, like 2 min ago, found out that @fruitcoops also did a proposal fic with paper rings by taylor swift. But I just wanted to make clear that this fic (or the part 2) wasn’t stolen from them, we just got the same idea apparently lmao. (I put this "warning" here, because my anxiety just told me that otherwise everyone will hate me and think I stole the idea)
I recommend that you still read their fic because it's really fucking amazing and adorable!!! !!

'Mon loup, you know I love you, but why are we going ice-skating? It's our job.'
'It's romantic.' Sirius raised his eyebrow. 'Okay, I saw a couple do it on TikTok, but it was really romantic.'
'But do they play ice-hockey for a living?'
'Baby, we can stay there and have dinner and look at the stars. We can stay as long as we want. Please?' Sirius was persuaded at the word baby.
~
Sirius hadn't exactly known what made him agree -it was the word baby- but now he stood in front of a completely frozen lake. It felt different without his protection gear and with the fact that there was ice-cold water underneath the ice. A vivid memory of 10-year old Sirius came up.
It had been his first time skating on natural ice, but I wasn't cold enough. Sirius had taken one step on the ice and his foot went right through. The worst part was that no one seemed to care, except for Regulus. It was when Sirius started to realize they simply didn’t care about anything other than his reputation.
'Pads?' Remus' warm voice broke through the memory. 'Are you alright? You don’t have to skate if you don’t want to.'
'No, I want to.' He tried to smile. 'I'm sorry.'
'No need to be sorry, come, I'll help you.' Remus carefully stepped on the ice and Sirius almost winced at the thought of Remus falling through.
But when Remus took his hand all the ghosts from his past seemed to fade away and he realized that for once in his life there was nothing holding him back from being happy.
'I got you. One foot first.' Remus helped Sirius on the ice. 'Love you. Now let's go skate, shall we?'
Sirius laughed as Remus dragged him to the middle of the lake where loads of families were already skating together.
'Honey, like you said, this is your job,' Remus laughed when Sirius slipped.
'It's the ice! It's different!' He said, but he was laughing too.
'Sure, baby.' Sirius grabbed Remus' arm and pulled him on the ice with him. 'Sirius!'
He just laughed and tried to stand up and skate away, but Loops was put on the Lions team for a reason. Remus had reached him within a minute.
'Were we planning on going somewhere?' Remus' smile still gave Sirius butterflies sometimes.
'Sir?' A small girl looked up to Remus. 'How did you learn to skate so fast?' For a second he hesitated and then he lowered himself to eyelevel with the girl.
'Hi, what is your name?'
'Everly, but, Sir, how did you skate so fast?'
'Everly, manners!' a woman interrupted her. 'I'm sorry, she's six and, well, hard to control.'
'Oh that's alright,' Remus said. 'Hi Everly, my name is Remus Lupin. I play professional ice-hockey. But I can teach you some tricks. If that's alright with your mother, of course.' Sirius heart almost melted at the sight.
'Mommy, can I please skate with Remus?' The girl tried her best to look cute and Sirius had to admit that she was almost as cute as Remus.
'You are- That means you are Sirius Black, I thought I recognized you! Ev, stay in sight, okay?' She gave her daughter a stern look and then smiled. Both her and Sirius watched them skate away.
'I'm sorry, kids seem to automatically have thing for Remus. I can't say I don't understand them, though I hope it's a different kind of thing.' The woman laughed at Sirius', slightly awkward, but apparently successful ice-breaker.
'My name is Sarah by the way. I heard everything about you and Remus on the new some months ago, that must've been hard.' Sirius normally wouldn’t answer to this, but Sarah had somewhat the same motherly energy that both Hope Lupin and Celeste Dumais had, though maybe a little less.
'It wasn't, but it got us here.' She smiled at him.
'I'm glad it did.' She turned around to look for something. 'Oh, Jack! I am so sorry, my toddler just learned how to walk and Cecile and I have trouble getting him to not walk on the ice.' She smiled apologetically. 'Could you give a shout if something happens with Everly?' Sirius nodded. 'Thank you, darling,' she said as she skated to her wife and son.
Sirius saw her kiss her wife, Cecile, on the cheek and bow down over the toddler and he couldn’t deny that he wanted that. Someday. With Remus.
Then he felt a weight against his back and arms around his hips. 'Hey baby,' Remus whispered. Sirius turned around and kissed his boyfriend.
'Where is your little admirer?'
'She's showing her mom all the tricks I taught her.'
'You'd be a great dad.' Remus seemed a little taken aback by that.
'You would too.'
Sirius couldn’t hold it in. 'I want that. Someday.'
'Me too.' Remus couldn’t hold back a smile and kissed Sirius again. 'Love you,' he whispered against his boyfriends lips.
'Hmm, love you too,' Sirius replied.
'Do you want to sit down and eat something? I brought chocolate.'
'of course you did.'
~
Hours later, both Remus and Sirius were getting tired. They had skated, talked and exchanged contact with Sarah and her family and Remus had eaten a shocking amount of chocolate. They had been snuggled on a thick blanket with another blanket over them in a tent-like contraption for an hour now. Remus was the first to notice it was getting dark.
'Pads. Pads, we can see the stars now,' he whispered to a half-asleep Sirius. He took his hand and dragged him up. Let's go on the ice, there is the least unnatural light.' Remus began walking.
'Honey, you forgot your skates.'
'Don’t need 'em.' He walked to the middle of the lake and promptly sat down and then laid on his back. 'You coming?' Sirius rolled his eyes, but went to lay next to Remus anyway. There they looked up, waiting for the stars to become more and more visible. The ice was cold underneath them, but Remus warmth made up for that.
After a while the stars were very visible and Remus pointed to the sky. 'Okay, if that's the north star, than North is right,' he lowered his hand in a straight line, 'there.' He pointed somewhere to into the forest next to the lake.
'How do you know this?' Sirius looked at his boyfriend looked at him.
'I might have looked up how to stargaze this morning,' Remus admitted. Sirius laughed -it could almost be called barking- when he saw Remus' grin. 'Anyway, there is Ursa Major. And I think that that is..' That was the point where Sirius stopped paying attention to what Remus said and more to him.
Remus' lit up when he talked about something made him happy. He had a wide smile and gold sparks in his eyes.
'And that's you, baby, the dog star.' But Sirius didn't look up, he kept staring at his boyfriends face. 'Pads?'
'Marry me.' It slipped out. He hadn't meant to say it, but it was sincere.
'What!?' Remus shot up.
'I- I just realized how fucking much I love you. I want to spend every second with you, I want to talk either to you or about you, I want,' Sirius trailed off in a search for words, 'you.' He smiled. 'I just want you.' Sirius had not prepared this, in any way, but he was happy with what he said.
'Bab-y,' Remus' voice broke as tears welled up and Sirius sat up and then went down on one knee.
'I'm sorry I don’t have a ring, but here goes,' he smiled apologetically. 'Remus, will you marry me?'
'Yes. Yes, yes, yes, yes!' He kissed Sirius. 'Ba- fiancé,' he whispered against his lips, 'I love you so fucking much too.'
~
I kinda want a significant other now,, anyway, let me know if you want a part 2 where they tell people!!
(I'll probably write it anyway, but still!)

Some Girl ... Part 1
Word Count: 1.8k
Warnings: None.
Notes: This fic used to be entitled "Unexpected", in case any of the few who read it when I initially posted it stumble across this again.
// * // * //
Saturday / 17 July 2021
It was a gorgeous, mid-July, Saturday afternoon in suburban Toronto. Warm, but not as humid as Ontario was known to be during the summer. Charlotte was at her aunt Elisa’s house, the house she herself had lived in during her high school years.
“I said I’d come over early to help, not do all the work while you play with Bash,” she chuckled, tucking a loose strand of her long, wavy, chocolate caramel hair, behind her ear. Sebastian, or Bash for short, was Charlotte’s six-month-old son.
“He’s my first grandbaby,” she said.
“Who you just saw two weeks ago.”
“He has already changed so much in two weeks,” she murmured against Sebastian’s chubby cheek, making him giggle. “Do you think his eyes are going to stay blue, like yours?”
“I’ll see what his pediatrician says at Monday’s checkup, but yes, I think so.”
Sebastian wasn’t technically Elisa’s grandchild, but Charlotte never corrected her. She may as well be. Elisa had taken Charlotte into her home when Charlotte and her brother Jonah’s parents were killed in a car accident the summer before she started high school.
Jonah hadn’t moved in as he was going into college. Instead of postponing for even a semester, he chose to throw himself into college life as his way to cope with the loss. She wished he would have been there for her for that first five months; she had been grieving, too.
Elisa was her mother’s younger sister. She had quickly become a second mother to Charlotte, and Jack, Elisa’s husband, had been like a surrogate father. Jack’s son Mason, who was going to be a sophomore at York that fall, was more of a younger brother to her than a cousin.
// * // * //
Charlotte entered the living room with Sebastian on her hip. He had just woken up from a nap and had been fed and changed. Elisa was moving the liquor from the cabinet to the tray on the console table.
“We’re a little low on liquor,” Elisa mused.
“It looks like enough to me,” Charlotte said. “Who else is coming?”
“Aside from the four of us and Bash, Beth and Lyle, Annie, Didi and Will, Josh, Dougie, and Rob. Zak and Tori said they might stop by, but you know them.”
“Yes means maybe, maybe means probably not,” she chuckled. “No Valerie?”
“Girls weekend with Abigail and Morgan. They really should have asked you; we could’ve taken Bash for the weekend.”
Charlotte shrugged. “I’d much rather be here with all of you, than with Valerie and the twins.” Which was true enough.
Valerie was Diana (Didi) and Will's daughter, sister to Josh and Doug, and the only female cousin she had near her own age. Abigail and Morgan were twin sisters, and Valerie’s best friends. It would be nice to at least be considered every once in a while, but in all honesty, they hadn’t really been close since they were young.
“I’ll take Bash for a walk over to LCBO,” Charlotte said as Elisa dropped a kiss on his head.
“Oh honey, he can stay here. Your uncle should be back soon.”
“I’d actually like to take him out. It’s so nice today and he loves walks. Besides, you still have to make your spinach dip, and mix your marinade for the steaks. And Jack will have things to do, too.”
As Charlotte got Sebastian settled into his stroller, he starting babbling in excitement.
“Are you good if we take our time?”
“Yes, you’ve been a tremendous help,” Elisa answered. “Thank you, Sweetie.”
“So, what all should I grab?”
“Some Belvedere or Grey Goose, Patrón, and a bottle of good rum.”
“Vodka, tequila, and rum. Gotcha. Text me if you think of anything else... Come on baby, let’s blow this joint,” she said, giving Sebastian’s belly a little tickle.
// * // * //
Charlotte sighed. She was 5’7”, but still had trouble reaching things on high shelves. She was afraid if she tried reaching any further, her sundress would ride too high, and she’d treat everyone around her to a glimpse of her lacy underwear.
She was about to go in search of a store employee when she heard a pleasant, masculine voice ask from behind her, “Can I help?”
She turned to see a tall, dark-eyed young man in black gym shorts and a white V-neck t-shirt. His dark curls were pulled off of his forehead by a headband and a few days’ worth of dark stubble covered his cheeks and chin, with a little above his upper lip. He had amazing lips. Even though he looked a little worse for wear, she wouldn’t deny that he was still incredibly attractive. He stood over six feet and would be able to easily reach the top shelf. “Just one?”
“Yes, thank you,” she smiled. He pulled the bottle of Belvedere from the shelf and handed it to her. “It’s not for me. I mean, I might have a drink. My family is getting together tonight.”
“You don’t owe me an explanation.”
“I appreciate that. People see a young mother with her baby in a liquor store and make assumptions.”
He reached down and ran his fingertips through her son’s dark, wavy hair. Sebastian looked up and gave the young man a two-toothed smile. A return smile flitted across a face that seemed to have almost forgotten how.
He was insanely beautiful when he smiled. She knew that because she knew him.
“Can I help you with anything else?” he asked.
“You don’t have to. But thank you.”
“I honestly don’t mind.” He graced her with another small smile.
“Well, in that case, I also need tequila and a good bottle of rum.”
// * // * //
The young man looked truly delighted when Sebastian reached out and wrapped his small hand around his pinky finger.
Charlotte, standing before the shelves of rum, noticed, and offered, “His name is Bash.”
“Bash?”
“Short for Sebastian. He’s a good judge of character,” she smirked. “And I’m Charlotte.”
“Shawn.”
“It’s very nice to meet you, Shawn,” she smiled.
// * // * //
Shawn followed Charlotte to the register. He must have been craving some sort of connection with someone as he hadn’t left her side all through the store. She didn’t mind being that for him. He was still a little broken; if she could help him in any way, she was happy to.
“Are you not getting anything for yourself?” she asked when she saw that he was empty-handed.
“I was thinking about it, I walked in intending to, but no. I’m good.” He found he truly meant that. In that moment he felt more like himself, the way he used to be.
// * // * //
Pausing just outside of the store, Shawn built up the courage to ask Charlotte, “May I walk with you for a while? I’m sorry; is that a weird thing to ask?” he wondered. “If I’m making you feel uncomfortable, please tell me.”
“I’m surprisingly not uncomfortable. And that would be nice, but are you sure you don’t have better things to do? Somewhere else you’d rather be?”
“Honestly, no. I’ve just been out walking. I needed to clear my head.”
“My aunt’s house is only a few blocks from here, but I was planning to take the long way back through the park. Bash loves his walks, and I certainly wouldn’t mind the company.”
She could see relief in the slight upturn of his mouth and contentment settle in his eyes as he fell in step beside her.
“Do you live in Ajax too, or nearby?” he asked.
“We live downtown, at the LakeShore.”
“What? That’s crazy. I live downtown, at Reve.”
Shawn had looked at a couple of the condos at the LakeShore before he settled on Reve.
Charlotte had said ‘we’, but did that mean just her and her son? He was almost afraid to ask if she lived with her husband, although she wasn’t wearing a ring. Maybe a boyfriend? Sebastian’s dad, most likely. But why wasn’t he here then? Was he back at her aunt’s house waiting on them? He didn’t know why the possibility of her having a significant other even slightly displeased him.
It seemed as though she could read his thoughts when she said, “It’s just Bash and I.”
He felt the blood fill his cheeks. He was about to ask her how she knew what he was thinking when she continued, with a small laugh, “It’s all in your eyes. I can usually read people well anyway, but I don’t know; it seems really easy with you.”
“I will never be able to lie to you. Is that what you’re saying?” he smirked.
Charlotte was so pleased to see him smiling. If she could say she helped Shawn Mendes get his smile back, her heart would be happy.
“I don’t believe you’re much of a liar to begin with, but no,” she smiled back. “What are you doing in Ajax if you live downtown?”
“My family is in Pickering. I was visiting when I suddenly felt overwhelmed. I even left my dog behind; I don’t usually go anywhere without him...
“Have you ever had those moments?”
“I think we all have those moments from time to time.”
// * // * //
Shawn and Charlotte continued to chat while they made their way to the entrance of the park. Simple things. Nothing too personal. She let him guide the conversation.
Shawn took over pushing Sebastian’s stroller when Charlotte paused to pull her hair into a messy bun. He couldn’t help but notice her legs when the hem of her dress rose to mid-thigh, and the graceful length of her bare neck now that her hair was up.
Just inside, Charlotte took a deep breath and smiled. “It’s so beautiful here. Would you mind if we sat for a few minutes?”
“Not at all.”
They paused at a park vendor and grabbed a couple of bottles of water before settling on a bench, nearly hip to hip. Shawn turned the stroller around so Sebastian was facing them.
Charlotte couldn’t help but notice Shawn’s mouth, jawline, and neck as he drank down a third of his bottle at once. He was so handsome she was having a hard time not reacting to him. She tore her eyes from him and concentrated on her kid instead.
Shawn started making faces at Sebastian and tickling his neck and belly.
“You look like you want to hold him,” she grinned.
“I do,” he chuckled.
“Go for it.”
He unbuckled the stroller belt and lifted Sebastian into his arms and onto his lap. “I love babies.”
“No, really? I couldn’t tell,” she smirked.
“How old is he?”
“He’ll be six months in four days.”
“He’s adorable.”
“I agree, although I could be biased,” she tittered. “Do you want kids someday?”
“Absolutely. I always thought I’d be a good dad.”
“Somehow I know you will be,” she smiled softly.

Dean had always been the aggressive sort. He didn’t take shit from very many people, and if you were one of those who he did take it from, you counted yourself as lucky. He’d even gone off on Sam more than once, and Sam could get away with more than most.
It was one of the side effects of dealing with the life that you all were thrust into when you were just children. Your father had been hunting partners with John for years, off and on, when you were children, so you had known the Winchesters for a very long time, long enough to know you did NOT push your luck with the eldest Winchester.
Even though Dean was always hard in a sense, there was a time when he wasn’t as hard as he is today. Back then, the hardest thing he had to do in his life was impress John Winchester, and that had been more challenging than any monster he’d ever faced.
Life was as simple then. A vamps nest, the occasional Djinn. You killed the monsters, you saved a few lives. That time was long gone for the both of you. John's death had opened up a whole new world of monsters, demons and dick angels. Things that you weren’t prepared for, and neither was Dean. Dean spent what was only four months to you, but was forty years to him in Hell. Literal Hell. Sam jumped in the cage with Lucifer. Life became a downward spiral that just went on and on, until you found yourselves here today.
God had it in for you.The son of Lucifer was dressed as the Devil, courtesy of Dean’s twisted amusement, in the backseat of the Impala he’d deemed “Baby” years ago. You were on your way to a Halloween party that was expected to go south thanks to one of those rare simple vamps nest your unconventional group had been investigating.
“Dean, I don’t know about this,” Jack said, looking at his own reflection in the rearview mirror where he caught the look of Dean's amused gaze. The red paint on the boys face was a little much in your opinion, but hey, you weren’t in charge of this shitshow, so you decided to keep your trap fucking shut.
“It’s simple Jack,” Dean said. You could almost hear the smirk in his voice, and you were determined to look dead ahead of you, and not in the backseat where you would probably die laughing. “You go to the party, just stand back, watch, find a chick maybe. I don’t give a fuck, but just make sure that no vamp gets inside that fucking house until Y/N and I can take care of the mother fuckers. If one does show itself, lure it out to us, and we will take care of it.”
Dean made it sound so simple, and you could only imagine how nervous Jack was. He didn’t have the conventional upbringing of most people as it was. Technically, he wasn’t even 12 yet, he was just advanced because of his race, and somethings just didn’t come quite so naturally to Jack as Dean had thought that it should. That, or Dean just didn’t give a shit, because he was never really going to forgive him for Mary’s death. He just wasn’t.
“You will be fine Jack. Just keep a low profile, and watch out for vamps. Dean and I can take care of the rest,” you told him in what you hoped was an encouraging tone. “This will be a piece of cake, and we will be back at the hotel before you know it.”
Jack fell quiet as he looked at the landscape flying past the backseat window, and your eyes trailed Dean's still amused face as he drove down the farm road to the old ranch house the teenagers were attending for tonight's festivities.
Dean loved Halloween. It was one of the only holidays that he really did enjoy. Sam, on the other hand? Well, Sam hated it, and when Dean found this case, Sam decided to stay behind with Eileen while you, Dean, Jack took care of this small little case that was only three states over.
Dean had tried to convince you to dress up for the occasion, but quickly changed his mind when you told him that there was not a chance in hell you could hide a machete in the slutty nurse costume he’d picked out for you. That’s how the plan to dress Jack up , and place him in the party watching the party goers was born.
You and Dean had a history. That history had started when he’d taken your virginity when you were only 18 years old. Every time you got a chance after that, you found yourselves between the sheets, in the back seat, and against the walls of bars in dark alleyways. Dean had a “healthy appetite”, and even in his forties he still carried the stamina of a horny teenage boy. You weren’t complaining either.
Somewhere around thirty, he’d discovered his Dom fetish, and that literally fucking ruined all other men for you. You should have known Dean’s “take no shit” attitude would have translated over into the bedroom eventually. It was the one place he could have complete control, and the one place he could let off steam with someone he trusted. That someone was you.
Since tonight was his favorite holiday, you had decided when this small little hunt was over, Dean would get to see you in that slutty nurse costume he’d wanted you to wear so bad. After all, daddy always gets what he wants, and that’s why you had jumped up and suggested the kid get his own room.
You watched the sky turn dark as Dean speed towards the party and the hunt, your mind on just what Dean was going to say when he discovered you had kept the costume.
Three hours later, you found yourself standing in the hotel room that you and Dean would be sharing for the night, staring down at the nurse’s outfit on the bed before quickly sliding the towel that was covering your body to the floor, and picking up the costume. You only had a few minutes before Dean would be done with his shower, and he’d already ordered you to be in position when he returned to the room. He just didn’t know about the costume.
Dean was usually in a good mood after a good hunt, and this hunt was the first easy thing theyd done in a long time, so therefore Dean was in a very good mood.
You had just slipped the last strap over your shoulder, and got into the kneeling position on the bed that he required you to be in when waiting for him, when you heard the shower cut off, and the door to the bathroom open.
The room was dark. The only light that came into the room was coming from the bathroom and it flooded the small room as Dean rounded the corner to see his prize. Judging from the predatory growling sound he made when he saw you waiting for him, he was very pleased, but you knew better than to look up from your submissive stance and make eye contact without permission. Dean wasn’t going to take your shit, and you wanted to cum tonight. Slick already gathered itself between your spread thighs in anticipation of what was to come, and Dean hadn’t even laid a hand on you yet.
Dean’s eyes shamelessly raked over you as he made his way towards the bed.You could feel his piercing gaze, even though you couldn’t see it, and you waited with bated breath for Dean’s approval, which came in the form of the Dean’s rough thumb reaching out, and running across your red painted lips. You reached your tongue out and swept over the tip of his thumb, twirling it around this thick digit as if it were his cock before sucking it into your mouth, and letting it go with a pop.
Dean groaned at the sensation as he watched your lips around his thumb, and his dick twitched in interest as his eyes roamed the barely there costume that you were wearing for him.
“Such a good little slut, waiting for Daddy, all dressed up so pretty,” Dean said, his rough voice causing a shiver to visibly roll through your body, and land in your already aching cunt.
Dean chuckled at the reaction and he brushed his fingers through your hair, tucking it behind your ear to get a better view of your face. It was a move that was almost too intimate for what was to come, but it was his way of asking you if you trusted him and you did.You trusted Dean with your life.
When he noticed you lean into his touch, it was the only permission he seemed to need. That and the high adrenaline made him more impatient than what he would have normally been . His large hand fisted your hair almost painfully as he jerked your eyes up to meet his darkened gaze. His bare chest and body was on display for you, as his hard length twitched on its own from it’s proud position. A bead of precum was already forming at the tip, and you licked your lips as you watched it bob there. He needed this. He needed this just as much as you did tonight, and damn, you wanted to taste him so bad.
His eyes followed your gaze, and if you would have not forgone the underwear you were sure that the smirk he gave you would have melted them clean off your already overly heated body.
“What is it, sweetheart? Daddy’s little cock slut wants to have a taste before I ruin that pretty little pussy of yours tonight?”
The needy wine that left you lips wasn’t the answer Dean was looking for, so he gripped your hair impossibly tighter, and growled as he looked down at your form as you all but squirmed underneath him.
“Use your words. I want to hear you beg for it,’ Dean said, lowering his face so close to your own that his lips brushed yours with every word, and his whiskey kissed breath fanned warm over your skin.
“Please Daddy, please let me suck your cock, I’ll be a good girl, please let me taste you,” you begged him in a small voice that surprised even you. Dean’s mouth meet yours in a clash of lips, tongue and teeth that ended with his perfectly straight teeth sinking into your lower lips before he pulled away to soon, leaving you breathless and at his mercy, his grip still tight in your hair as he guided you to his impressive length before tapping your mouth with his swollen tip.
Reaching out with your tongue you lick softly at his dripping slit. The salty taste of his precome filled your mouth, and you moaned as he gave your hair a sharp jerk, sending the jolt from your scalp to your pussy, that was literally dripping down your leg onto the already stained bed sheets under you.
“No teasing, Bitch,” Dean spat, his teeth gritted against the shiver of anticipation that rolled through his own spine. “Hands behind your back, you know the rules. No touching yourself. I’m gonna fuck that filthy little mouth, and then I’m going to split open that pretty little cunt.”
As ordered, you opened your mouth and Dean pressed himself into your waiting lips. You sucked at him as he slowly pressed himself into your open mouth. Your tongue ran along the vein under this shaft as he adjusted to the feeling of your mouth around him, stopping when the tip touched the back of your throat with a grunt, his teeth biting into his own lip.
Your fingers dug into your palms as arousal coursed through your body with renewed fervor. Dean’s cock laying heavy on your tongue as you gulped in oxygen. You knew that would be the last easy breath until he was satisfied with your mouth as his eyes locked with your own.
“Eyes on me pretty girl,” he commanded as he started to thrust himself slowly in and out of your mouth. “I want to see the look on your face when you choke on my dick.”
Giving him a hard suck in response, Dean started to fuck your mouth with harsh thurst as you tired desperately to relax your throat and hollow out your checks to take all that he was giving you. Your cunt pulsed with every thrust of his hardness into your mouth, and it was all you could do to keep your hands behind your back, and not give yourself the relief you so desperately needed. The only balance you were able to maintain was on your knees, and Dean’s hand still pulled your hair tight as he fucked himself into your mouth over and over again.
You did all you could to keep your eyes on him as your throat contracted around his tip as it assaulted you over and over again. Tears were streaming down your face, and your lipstick was ruined as drool dripped from your mouth, but you dared not break eye contact with Dean.
He was beautiful when he lost control like this. His green eyes rolled in pleasure every so often. The vein he loved to let you bite showing in his throat as he strained to keep from spilling into your mouth.
“Fuck, I wish you could see yourself. Taking my cock so good baby girl.”
You moaned desperately around his length at his praises and he shivered above you, his pace faltering as he pulled himself from your mouth just before he could fall over the edge. You gasped desperately for air as he let go of your hair, and you fell down to your hands and knees on the mattress and he positioned himself behind you.
A hard smack to your ass caused you to whimper as you felt him slide his thick cock through your slick, not entering you, just teasing your throbbing clit with his tip, his fingers leaving delicious little bruises as his large hands held you in place.
“Look at you,” he moaned as your warmth edged around him just enough to make him nearly lose it right there on the bed sheets. “So wet, so needy.” Another harsh smack to the other cheek made you jump and a scream left your lips as frustration and arousal created the needful ache between your legs. Dean’s slow thrusts against your clit pulled you to the edge, but never let you fall over. “What do you want? Tell me.Tell Daddy what you need.”
“Please Daddy, please, I need you, need your cock, please,” you begged him, and he moaned behind you as his hand ran up your back, over your barely there costume, and into your hair again, giving it a hard jerk as his tip breached you, waiting for heat. “Then take it, slut.”
That was all the warning you got before Dean was pounding you almost flat on your stomach, each thrust hitting your G-spot with mapped out precision. You were a screaming, moaning mess as he pounded you into oblivion.
“That’s it, baby,” Dean said, smacking your ass and never losing pace as each swat of his large hand made you moan, and your pussy spasm around his length. “You better not cum yet bitch! If you do, you know it will be the last time for a week. Do you understand?”
You moaned as you fought against the orgasm that had you shaking on the edge of delirium, and Dean gave your hair a hard pull, bring your back up to his chest, ripping your top down so that your tits flopped freely as he continued to pound into your ruined pussy, giving your exposed tits a harsh twist to get your attention. “Use your words Y/N, or I’m stopping, and I’ll finish myself off while you watch.”
You knew he’d do it. He’d done it before, and Dean didn’t take shit from you, or anyone else, and he wasn’t afraid to take care of himself, and leave you waiting.
“Yes Daddy, I understand,” you squealed as his fingers dug into your hips, his hand never letting go of your hair.
“Good girl, such a good girl for Daddy,” he said as he picked up pace, until his hips started to stutter after what felt like an eternity, your own body buzzing as the orgasm you’d been holding off was becoming almost painful.
“Touch yourself baby, I want to feel you come on my cock,” Dean said, his voice strained as he raced to his own end.
Your hand traveled down your still costume clad body, and to your swollen aching clit, matching his pace in rough circles.
It didn’t even take a full minute before your pussy clamped down around his pulsing cock, and your orgasm rocketed through your body as he spilled deep inside of you. Dean pulled you both up as your bodies seized around one another, until he was able to remove his softening length from your body, and lay you gently down on the bed.
Your body was still quaking slightly when you finally came back to yourself, as Dean cleaned the mess up between your legs before helping you out of your costume in silence. You watched as Dean crawled over you body, and pressed a sweet kiss to your swollen lips before cleaning the lipstick off your face.
“You okay?” he asked as your eyes met his. There was your Dean again, always worried, always concerned for someone else above himself. Even in this aspect of your relationship, he was always the nurturer that you had fallen in love with under that rough exterior so long ago.
“I’m good Dean,” you tell him as his lips pecked at your own again, and he lay down next to you to pull your exhausted body against his own, tucking the covers in around you.
Maybe one day you’d tell each other you loved each other, but not today, for now this would be enough.
“Happy Halloween Daddy,” you told him, feeling him chuckle behind you, before his teeth bit playfully into your shoulder, leaving his mark on your skin.
“Happy Halloween Baby Girl.”
