Misha Collins wasn't queerbaiting, the production of Supernatural was. Not maliciously imo and eventually it turned into an attempt at honoring the queer reading of Castiel and his relationship with Dean. (As much as was possible in such an environment). But it's conclusive that Supernatural baited their queer audience and if you don't see it knowing they're the reason for the term being coined at all then you weren't going to listen to my perspective anyway. (Please be kind and don't leave hate in my inbox.)
Misha Collins caused controversy for calling Destiel fan service early on but really he was being honest about its treatment. It was fan service. The industry's bafflement that homoeroticism and queer jokes genuinely result in queering a text is based in homophobia, which is likely why he was openly supportive. Misha Collins' ex-wife is an academic who studied gender and sexuality and so he would be more mindful than most of the problems plaguing his profession in how it treats female and queer characters and also how it treats women and queer fans.
The idea he was trying to gather any capital by bluntly stating fans could interpret a character or relationship as queer, that it was played to in the text, is laughably false. The film and television industry is misogynistic and homophobic and racist, and so too is the audience they're actively courting. It would have been better for Collins' career prospects to be coy and evasive about it. It's probable that some of Castiel's deaths were due to the actor's support, not his resurrections.
I don't blame actors for what they do and don't say regarding shipping or the queer interpretations of their characters. The likelihood is that they're more comfortable with queerness than fans project onto them but are unable to express it openly. This is especially true for actors of main characters. The interpretation of Dean as bisexual, for example, would've caused Ackles some consternation because of how biphobic his chosen environment is (both in fan and industry spaces). If Dean becomes a bisexual male lead character on network television his popularity plummets as a 'man's man' (heh), and suddenly his potential storylines inside Supernatural and any external roles Ackles pursues become restricted.
It was brave, not exploitative, to be so open about supporting queer readings of Castiel and his relationship with Dean. I think Collins probably just understood fandom more than most and didn't have a lot of time for the nonsense in his industry.

I got hit by a huge wave of nostalgia and fell back into the Undertale rabbithole and I just couldn't resist the urge to make a Handplates skeleton lore accurate oc who I am pretty proud of ngl :] adawd

#today's gone Badly and i'm upset but instead of venting abt it i'm gonna channel that energy into doing a bit of tag rambling abt Boothill#well. less abt Him and more abt uh. self-analyzing my anxiety surrounding contributing to fandoms. he's just today's catalyst#like. i know it's mostly a me thing. i'm hypersensitive to criticism and very conflict avoidant + socially anxious + perfectionistic etc.#so I'm the one that keeps myself from posting more stuff out of fear of being criticized or called-out for what i've made#bc inevitably Someone's gonna see it and think its OOC or a problematic take or they'll misread my intent. etc etc what have you#but like. that's inevitable. there's no way to communicate every single thing with all of the nuance required to avoid misunderstandings#and other times it's not a misunderstanding it's just a difference of opinions and that's Fine!! there's no accounting for personal taste#there's no accounting for several things actually. taste‚ bias‚ lore-knowledge‚ differing levels of chronic-online-ness‚ etc#so this isn't me complaining abt the state of fandom culture (although i do think. sometimes. ppl take shit a bit too seriously)#but anyways all of this is mostly just anxiety-fueled. it's not like i very often actually even receive negative feedback or anything#if anything ppl tend to tell me that i'm overthinking it and killing my own fun and worried that my stuff is more OOC than it is#which like. yeah. Was Anyone But You a good Much Ado About Nothing adaptation? No, not at all, but fuck it was fun!
#y’all know I have many thoughts about this play and these characters#but even though the movie didn’t completely live up to my expectations as an adaptation#I still really enjoyed it!#and I really despise all those people making posts about how sydney sweeney can’t act#idk it seems a little rude#my main problem is how they messed up the benedick and beatrice characterization and dynamic#I love that they played up the ex lovers thing (which is left up to interpretation in the play)#and i love love queer Hero and Claudio!!!#but their hatred of each other didn’t really pack the same punch as in the original#I suppose I wish they weren’t afraid to make the characters bigger assholes?#ya know- give them more flaws?#because right now the enemies part doesn’t really feel believable for big parts of the movie#They really could have leaned more into making Bea a bit of a cold and snappy mess (as she is in the original)#and Ben more of…ya know…actual human disaster who can’t commit#both of their characters in the play are driven by their desire never to marry and their distrust for the opposite sex#They included this a bit with Bea (her not believing in true love and all that)#but her break up with Jonathan (because he was too nice???) didn’t really convince me of it#They also keep insisting that Ben is a fuckboy but we never really see it demonstrated?#I personally don’t mind the fact that they changed up the whole ‘convincing them that the other secretly loves them’ bit#especially considering this is only loosely based on much ado#but I do think they made it a bit messy considering they included the gulling scenes but only as a joke#I wish they’d either leaned fully into the much ado plot or ditched it#I think what a lot of adaptations get wrong is that they’re either too afraid of leaning into their og media#or too afraid of seperating themselves from the og media#oh god I’ve reached the tag limit help#anyways- rant over#anyone but you#maria talks about things#much ado about nothing#beatrice x benedick

I see almost nobody talking about Legends in the Mist on tumblr and I want to know is there anyone else out there because I am going insane with excitement

It's kind of crazy how Dot blatantly has an eating disorder, and despises she is in the narrative because she is a fat girl and then it's just ignored. so silly so silly so silly:))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

I'm hated everywhere I go. She was never an actual good rep#she is one of the characters who were quite literally made to be a JOKE and sort of caricature#Like dude!! She wasn't rep at all Even tho I do reclaim her I didn't really care that they had a non-fat actress playing her lol#The reasonable thing they should have done was to rewrite her character and remove the stereotype she has.
