We were on a mission at a casino where illegal gambling was rumored to take place.

Jude: Since I’m the only one placin’ bets, don’t get in my way.

Kate: Okay, I’ll just watch from the background!

When I replied to the words he had repeated over and over to me, he smiled crookedly.

Jude: ‘N it’s a good chance extort money.

In this casino, anything from money, land, medicine, people and even organs can be used as a wager.

(The mission this time is to stand out in the casino, and gather evidence.)

In order to do that, we need to come into contact with a man, Viscount Smith, but he only approaches those who are good at gambling.

Jude’s plan to lure him out is to win A LOT, but he prohibited me from gambling…..

(This is probably due to some kind of expectation.)

(Besides, I’m sure Jude will yield better results than I would if I messed up.)

Jude: C’mon.

Kate: Coming!

Just as I placed my hand on the door -

???: Guten Abend. What a nice night. [1]

Kate: Huh?

When I heard the voice behind me, I turned around and saw Nica standing there.

Nica: What are you doing here?

Jude: …What’re you doin’.

-Jude’s expression turned grim as he took a step forward.

Nica: Don’t sound like that, I was just out for a walk.

Nica: This looks like a Crown job, guess I’m right.[2]

Jude glares at Nica who’s smiling happily.

Jude: Even so, it’s none of yer business.

Nica: ….Come on, I just wanted to gamble.

Nica looked at the casino door, and then back at me,

Nica: I won’t get in the way, so let me come with you.

Jude: Huh?

He spoke sweetly, as if to seduce me.

Nica: Hey, rotkehlchen, bring me along. [2]

(Since we don’t know their intentions, it wouldn’t be wise to expose Crown’s mission.)

Unsure about how to respond, I look to Jude.

He furrowed his brow even more, and let out an exasperated sigh.

Jude: …..Do whatever ya want.

I turn on my heel and quickly follow after him.

[The scene transitions to inside the casino.]

Inside the casino, people from all classes, both nobility and commoners, were gambling with a odd excitement in the air.

Kate: Is this okay?

I stretched up and whispered into Jude’s ear,

Jude: It’s fine, we ain’t got no right to restrict their movements.

Jude: As long as it doesn’t even interfere with my mission.

Nica: Casinos are great, they’re the ultimate place where money and power rule.

I shut my mouth as Nica follows me from behind, humming.

Jude: Well then, to sta-

Nica: Ah, I have an idea.

Nica smiled suspiciously as he interrupted Jude.

Nica: Have a game with me, Jude Jazza.

Jude: What?

Jude furrowed his brow deeper.

Nica: I hear you love money, don’t you?

Nica: Apparently, you like making money by collecting debts on the large sums you lend.

Nica: I get it. It’s fun stealing from idiots.

Watching Nica under the shining lights, he rested an expensive-looking necklace on his finger.

Jude: How disgustin’. Can ya join me?

He snorted a laugh and then looked away from Nica.

Jude: Toldja not to get in my way, so go away.

Jude walked over to a poker table, when I tried to follow him, I was prevented by my shoulders being grabbed.

Kate: W-what is it?

As soon as Jude had turned away, he grabbed my chin and forced me to look up.

I gasped at our lips almost touching, and Nica smiled.

Nica: So, how about a kiss from rotkehlchen for the winner?[2]

Nica didn’t miss that I was shaken by his words.

Nica: What’s this? It looks like you want to be kissed now.

Kate: No, that’s not true!

Nica: It’s important for you to lure out Viscount Smith, isn’t it?

(We never spoke to him about the mission….)

I freeze as his lips approach me -

Jude: ….You’re really a troublesome guy.

Before I knew it, I was pulled away by my arm and into Jude’s chest.

Nica: My my, what a shame.

Jude: Why’d ya freeze?

Kate: I didn’t freeze!

My relief was short-lived when Nica approached us.

Nica: Perhaps you’re afraid of losing.

Jude: ……Hah?

Nica: It’s true that I’m good at gambling and I’m good-looking, so it’s no surprise you’d lose.

For some reason, Jude bit at the obvious provocation -

Jude: Sure, if ya say so, I’ll play ya.

Kate: Jude?

Jude: It’ll be faster to swat away those annoyin’ flies buzzin’ ‘round.

Nica: Haha, that’s the spirit.

Nica: The winner gets a kiss from rotkehlchen. It’s a promise.

The battle for my lips had begun.

In response, Will narrowed his eyes, the color of blood, with an alluring smile on his lips.

William: It is a charming idea, although I have no intention of handing our dear little robin over.

W: If I emerge victorious, would you let me do as I like with you, Kate?

Darius, too, wore a smile as bewitching as that of an angel’s, his honey eyes sweetly tempting.

Darius: And should you become mine, I suppose I’d take you back home with me.

D: How about we have so much fun together that returning to England won’t even dare cross your mind again?

Kate: W-wait, hold up, that kind of thing...

This unexpected turn of events sent my heart racing in confusion, when——

The two of them glanced at one another before bursting out into a hearty laughter.

William: Ahaha, it was a joke in good fun, Kate. It’s not in my slightest interest to offer people up as prizes.

Darius: Ahaha, you take everything so seriously, miss fairytale keeper. Color me veeery intrigued.

Kate: Ehh? Okay, that’s enough ganging up on me, you two.

K: That said, though, I am interested in this match, so if it’s alright, could you let me prepare the prize for the winner?

William: What a wonderful suggestion, thank you. Of course I am more than alright with that.

Darius: Agreed, I’m happy with anything as long as you are the one who chooses it, miss fairytale keeper.

Kate: Please leave it to me then!

——From the first throw, the two made a splendid display.

Darius: I expected no less from you, William.

William: I could very much say the same of you. I’ve learned yet another new thing about you today.

Horseshoes were not only heavy, but also bore a shape that made it difficult to throw well,

but both Will and Darius were able to throw them at the stakes they were aiming for with ease.

Kate: Will! Darius! ...You’re both doing really well!

With such clear skill, I could hear exceptionally loud cheering along with murmurs of praise.

“Wow, they make it look so easy,” “I feel like I’m being sucked right in,” “Those two are so cool”...

(They both don’t seem like they’re going to miss a mark anytime soon. At this rate there probably won’t be a winner and... ah.)

It was then my eyes stopped on something a child who had been passing by was selling.

(Okay, that’ll be the reward!)

I chased after the seller to buy the item I had my eye on, and on the way back——

I ran into a store that was selling another thing that could work.

(And with this... it can just be a gift from me to him, not for winning a match, but rather for the memory.)

I went back to where the two were as the match was drawing near the end...

Kate: Here you go! A reward for the winner. ——In other words, the both of you.

I brought out two cups of chilled lemonade.

Darius: Hm? Wait a minute, you wouldn’t know whether the results ended in a tie until the end, yes?

Kate: Ah, about that...

K: From the very first throw, I could see that you and Will were around equal footing.

Darius: ...Ho-oh?

Kate: And I was thinking if there’s no gap in ability, you can only really leave the rest to luck or how strong one’s desire is to win——

William: ...

Kate: But even in luck and desire to win, I felt you two were on equal footing for those as well.

K: So, I took a bet that it would end in a tie, and I prepared two prizes.

Darius: And what were you going to do if it hadn’t ended in a tie?

Kate: Were that to happen, of course the second lemonade would be for me!

William: Ahaha, that is very much like you, little robin.

W: I will graciously take the lemonade then. Here’s to the little robin who has won the bet, cheers.

Darius: I see you have a strong hand in these games as well. Thank you, and cheers.

Seeing the two drinking the lemonade, enjoying it, my cheeks became more lax.

——At that moment.

Something bumped into my back then.

Slightly dirty boy: Be careful where you’re walking!

The boy turned back briefly to spit out those words before quickly leaving.

Kate: S-sorry, you too! Be care——

William: Let’s chase after him.

Kate: Huh?

William and Darius had already begun running after him, and in the next beat I followed after them.

Darius: Miss fairytale keeper, was anything stolen from you, by any chance?

The boy’s back appeared and disappeared among the throng of people, and while chasing after him I checked my pockets, and——

Kate: ! It’s not here!

The present that I had gotten for him was gone.

I paled in realization, and Will, seeing this, whispered in a calm voice.

William: So I see you do hold it. He may be a child with connections to that organization.

W: ——That which is stolen is bound to return to its rightful owner.

Kate: R-right, anyway, let’s get him!

Darius: Hehe, this is just like Fangen.

D: ——Except that the child’s the one who is ‘it,’ I suppose.

The boy skillfully maneuvered his way through, slipping through the small gaps between the crowd of people and wagons.

And I could recognize the route he was taking, so——

Kate: I’ll go around from here to cut him off!

I separated myself from the crowd to block off the path of the boy, who had come out from under a wagon.

Kate: Stop right there!

The boy seemed startled before changing directions, but there...

William: As expected of our little robin.

This time, surprised by Will, he once again changed directions...

...only to run into Darius.

Darius: Seems like it’s your loss. Ah, and over there is the little miss fairytale keeper.

Kate: There’s no use running now!

Now surrounded in three different directions, the boy panicked.

Slightly dirty boy: ...gh, take this!

The boy took a basket adjacent to him and knocked it over.

The plums that were originally stacked like a mountain scattered all across the street, hindering our path.

Kate: Awawa!?

I caught the basket that had fallen with the plums a moment later.

William: Ahh, could you hold it like that, Kate?

Will deftly picked up the plums one after the other, throwing them into the basket I was holding.

Darius: Could you hold the basket toward me as well, miss fairytale keeper?

Darius, too, picked plums up in a carefree manner before tossing them into the basket, not a single one falling back to the ground.

(Wow, these two are really good...)

In that time, the boy had ran into a side street with agile movements.

Kate: Ah, that path——

After the plums were all back in the basket, we continued our chase once again, and as my memory served, we were nearing a place where the path diverged.

Kate: From a distance, it looks like a straight path.

William: So I see. The boy thought to use this to try and deceive our eyes.

Darius: And had you not told us, miss fairytale keeper, we may have very well just gone straight without a drop of hesitation.

D: ——That said, it is also very possible that, on the flip side, he did actually go straight.

William: The boy is also watching the little robin’s movements, after all.

Darius: Then how about we split into two teams here?

William: Indeed. Then you and I can each tackle a path. Which leaves our little robin.

Darius: ——Miss fairytale keeper.

Both of them turned toward me at the same time, and I gave my answer...

I saw a couple tags with king Halt AU and I am interested now 👀 (if you need someone to blab to about this)

okay. listen. i was rereading the early years and halt rescues duncan but refuses to call him highness and duncan gets mad, the canon dialogue is pretty much just,

halt: you-

duncan: YOUR HIGHNESS

halt : i preffer to be called halt, actually

(this is the base idea: this scene is doubly funny if halt were also crown prince)

so picture halt swimming back to shore after ferris tries to kill him and deciding actually he doesn't want this idiot in charge of his country.

halt has had about four years of ranger training on top of royal battleschool at this point and ships ferris of to the countryside, names Caitlyn as his successor to the throne and convinces his father that he should aide araluen (read: the rangers who kept pritchard informed) for diplomacy reasons.

his father thinks this will be a good lesson in war craft for the crown prince and sends him on his way.

halt and Crowley meet in the inn just like in canon while pritchard, who travelled with halt to araluen, makes his way to berrigan who was his main contact and then the plot kicks off (canon slightly to the left) halt is still halt but with the full authority of the clonmel crown behind him. he just doesn't tell people. surely this won't result in any silly situations.

big change might be that daniel, who still dies, asks halt to look for his wife, who is heavily pregnant and halt goes to find her, but presented with a baby who has no living relatives he knows of he just takes baby will and disappears him to Hibernia? Caitlyn loves her nephew. halt insist that will is not his son. will is absolutely his son and no one will be convinced otherwise.

halts father/ the king of clonmel declares Will fourth in line to the throne bc what else are you supposed to do when your heir goes to fight a war for eighteen months and returns with a baby. the king isn't an idiot, halt.

i want at least one scene where an invitation is extended to the Hibernian kings for princess Cassandras first birthday and Caitlyn shows up to represent clonmel and bonds with crowley bc they have a similar sense of humour (compatible with halt). crowley refers to halt only by "Arratay" and Caitlyn only by "my brother". they think the two should meet though crowley thinks halt doesn't know how to behave in the presence of royalty.

this would be even funnier if it was cralt/craltine (geometrically accurate love triangle my beloved) bc crowley is fawning over halt and Caitlyn unknowingly sets them up by encouraging crowley to tell his friend how he feels.

at least one scene would be halt and crowley visiting Crowleys family which is big and loud. halt is immediately a favourite of Crowleys kid sister who thinks he is the funniest person who ever lived. halt is stumped by this

the rangers are also 100% the queerest group of people in the entire country. berrigan and Leander are established and not subtle about it. at least one person is only referred to by ranger, never by any pronouns. this is never remarked upon.

the problem im still trying to figure out is how I can merge canon post TEY. halt returns to clonmel bc he has to check on his family and also bc, yk, the infant he now cares for and virtually disappears from araluen. crowley and pauline are upset bc they dont know what happened. this would be even funnier if this was craltine and they just had a highly emotional moment and then the final battle happens and suddenly halt is gone and no one knows where.

if this was really cracky they would tag along as security/diplomacy detail for duncan when he is invited to halts coronation but then again, we're not catholic so I might as well. could be fun

Hello. Sorry if someone has already asked before, but how many languages do you speak? I’ve been reading through your TUGS series on AO3 and noticed you write dialogue in English, French, and Hebrew. That and using old 1900s slang… it’s such a neat facet of your works—it provides cultural richness and makes the stories and characters feel much more colorful. But it did get me wondering about the author!

Actually no one has asked me about this before!

I actually only 'fluently' speak English [tho that could be contested with my grammar and spelling habits], altho I'm somewhat capable of conversation in German and can do basic exchanges in Spanish. I've completed most of the duolingo course in Esperanto but my recall on it is rusty, and I've spent time learning Welsh, Canadian French, and Klingon lol

Fun fact about me is I had to teach myself to read and write [educational neglect for students with special education plans is VERY real]. All of the grammar and writing knowledge I have is from books I've read and my German classes in high school.

Most of the languages I use in my fics are very carefully translated! I think any successful internet user who wants to interact with non English speaking areas should be able to read up and learn the translation rules for any language you wish to 'speak' with. It makes it very easy to open a translation dictionary and then get the result you want! Other languages don't work like English you have to learn how to get it done.

That even goes for other ways we used to speak English! We used to speak almost a completely different language mechanically 100 years ago. It is a very careful balance of writing accurate dialogue in the fics where you both use the English lexicon of the time period, get the voice of the character across, try not to have the characters say anything out right offensive [altho that's a touchy subject, words I find offensive may not be for others or others might be offended by what I deem safe to write, its a very careful balance], and omitting words that meanings have changed significantly [like awesome was a very common 1920s word, but you can't exactly have Captain Zero saying that, it'd sound wrong to 2020's ears]

I take my historical research very seriously! I am now very disabled and kinda a loser; so I'm home bound and bored a lot of the time. Things like my fic and art are pretty much my full time time occupier, so I absolutely love spending time getting nit pikcey and specific!

Bigger, Scarier, More Teeth

Paleontology is, by its very nature, a very speculative science. For most of its history, we've only had fragmentary remains of ancient animals that sometimes have no easy modern day counterpart to compare with. Of course, the field is also good at self correcting these errors, which means our image of dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures is constantly evolving. While admittedly we may never know with 100% accuracy what these animals were like, we can certainly narrow down and tweak our perception to come up with the closest possible image.

Then...there's instances where dinosaurs were deliberately modified. Not a case of misidentification mind you. Cases where the animal was physically altered in order to seem more impressive or threatening.

Case in point: the Giganotosaurus from Jurassic World Dominion. One of the most recent examples, the Giga was depicted with a row of spines running along its crocodilian esque back. Naturally, we have no evidence of these in actual specimens and was probably added to make the final big carnivore of the series look more threatening.

Admittedly I'm not gonna harp on too hard about this since there is a difference between a fictional portrayal and something that's supposed to be accurate and the Jurassic Park series isn't really known for its accuracy. This is honestly just a bench mark for what we're working with and a notable and recent example.

What's a bit more headscratching when said altering happens in more scientific portrayals of dinosaurs.

Take shrinkwrapping for example. For decades, shrinkwrapping was the standard fair in portraying dinosaurs. What it involved was basically showing visible bone structures underneath the skin of the animal.

The results were...

...basically skeletons with skin stretched over them.

The idea, as pointed out by Mark P. Witton in the link above, is not just to portray them as fast, agile, bird like animals, but also matching a popular but inaccurate depiction:

Secondly, images of prehistoric animals as heroically-built, powerful beings are preferred by many merchandisers and palaeoart fans, these interpretations most closely matching the erroneous but popular portrayal of prehistory as a savage struggle for survival, where only the most powerful animals survived.

Thing was, these depictions completely ignored the muscle and tissue underneath the skin which gives the animals more bulk in favor of portraying them as more intimidating. Which in retrospect didn't work since if a dinosaur looked shrink-wrapped in real life, it probably was starving, ill, or basically on the verge of death.

In contrast, there are some artists that go the complete opposite direction. As is the case with David Peters and his...unique look at pterosaurs.

David Peters, a once respected independent researcher and artist, once claimed that he was able to identify hidden features and anatomical structures in pterosaur remains that no-one else had been able to identify. These include elongated fleshy crests, spines, and extravagant feathers.

The results speak for themselves. It's almost astonishing that anybody would think that any animal could even fly with that amount of extra weight and protrusions.

Now while we can poke fun at paleoart all day, the thing is that altered dinosaurs or other prehistoric animals aren't just restricted to art alone. There have been cases where specimens themselves have been altered to look more impressive.

Such is the case with Irritator challengeri, a spinosaurid first discovered in Brazil, South America in 1996. While the original specimen is noted for having one of the most complete skulls of any spinosaurid anywhere, its name is referring to a much more...interesting background.

Irritator wasn't actually discovered by scientists. It was purchased from a fossil dealer which made its way to Germany’s Stuttgart State Museum of the Natural Sciences. In this case, material from the back of the skull had been removed, and placed on the tip of the snout, making the skull appear longer. Presumably this was to make the specimen more marketable. Paleontologist David Martill and his team had to painstakingly remove the altered bit of the snout and restore them to their original location. It was such a pain, they eventually named the species Irritator due to the difficulty of removing and reattaching the material without damaging the specimen.

But even the case of Irritator is nowhere near the levels of altering than the case of Archaeoraptor. AKA: the dinosaur that was completely made up.

Like with Irritator, the Archaeoraptor specimen was an altered fossil (also known as a chimera) sold on the fossil market. Though instead of a single specimen, it was several individuals put together to create a complete product that would sell for a much higher price. Smuggled out of China and sold in the US for $80,000 USD during 1999, it ended up in the hands of amateur dinosaur enthusiast Stephen Czerkas who wanted it to be the centerpiece of his museum in Blanding, Utah. Working with noted paleontologist Phil Currie and Chris Sloane of the National Geographic magazine, they determined that the specimen was the long sought-after missing link between dinosaurs and birds. A groundbreaking discovery like this would've revolutionized the field. So much so the magazine did a story on it and christened it Archaeoraptor even before a more formal study could be conducted.

The result: a complete disaster and embarrassment to both paleontology and National Geographic when it was revealed to be a hoax. Creationists had a field day, practically tearing the reveal apart and used it as evidence against paleontologists and their work. The zeal for the missing link resulted in an absolute blunder for science.

Ironically though, it's now believed that the two species used in the specimen belong to Yanornis (an early bird) and the famous Microraptor, both of which are stronger contenders for the title of "missing-link".

Needless to say, the field of paleontology is full of fabrications and falsehoods. And more often than not it's difficult to truly pick out what's real and what isn't. Which is a problem since it draws into question the validity of both research done by paleontologists, the work of paleoartists, and the very specimens themselves. Naturally it should come to no surprise that researchers need to be diligent in how dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals are portrayed and studied. Especially when sensation overcomes the truth many work so hard to find.

Magic Headcanons for the Papas

Part 3: Terzo

Of all his brothers, he uses magic the most.

Now just saying that might make it sound like he’s just constantly shooting lightning out of his hands all Willy Nilly.

That isn’t entirely wrong but not nearly as much as you might think.

Because Terzo has two schools that he’s the best at: Evocation and Conjuration.

Evocation- magic focusing on the elements -is surprisingly useful for every-day life: lighting small fires, minor blessings, most forms of healing, creating magical light, sending short messages, that kind of stuff.

It just also so happens to be the type of magic that lets you shoot lightning from your hands and set fire to your enemies. Which Terzo does not get to indulge in nearly as much as he’d like. He does get to show off to his ghouls, though. We’ll get more to that in a sec.

Conjuration- magic that create or summons matter and energy -is a little less practical in every day life, but is extremely useful for his job as Papa.

For example, one of the more difficult forms of Conjuration is teleportation. The Abbey is a pretty damn big building to be able to hold the chapel, the offices, the dorms for siblings, the ghoul’s quarters, the ritual rooms, the library, you get the picture. Of course, you can walk from place to place, but when you have a meeting on one side of the Abbey and another on the other with, like, a 10 minute gap in between the two? Being able to just zoop to the right place immediately is extremely convenient, especially when you’re already emotionally exhausted and need a break.

It’s not always 100% accurate, however. There have been times where Terzo missed the mark and ended up crashing inside a storage room next to where he needed to be, having to put himself together right before walking in to meet the clergymen that definitely heard everything. Luckily he’s got enough charm to brush it off. Most of the time.

Conjuration is also the type of magic required for the ghoul summoning ritual, along with other demon summonings and seances. Terzo is uncannily good at it. They didn’t even know that was a ritual one could be good at; it was practically law that summonings are some of the hardest rituals to do and require a ridiculous amount of time and energy to perform. In most casual cases, these problems are surmounted by the addition of multiple casters, however a Papa is supposed to summon all his own ghouls himself, at least to start with. It normally takes a lot of time to do and results in exhaustion on the part of the Papa, hell- even Primo struggled when he did it. Meanwhile, Terzo’s record for fastest ghoul summon unassisted was Aether at a whopping 5 minutes.

The working theory for how this is possible is that his natural affiliation with evocation makes him more in touch with those creatures of elemental alignment down below. What’s more, his skill with the elements helped him understand and get to know his ghouls on a level that hadn’t been seen before. Sure, Primo was cordial with his and Secondo had a favorite or two (not that he’d admit it), but Terzo was the first Papa to become part of his ghouls’ pack.

Also, fun fact, but Terzo was the one to perform Dewdrop’s elemental realignment ritual. At first he was staunchly against the idea, but when he realized that Sister was gonna push it no matter what and that the alternatives were likely much worse, he finally agreed. Before the ritual, Dew admitted that “if it had to be anyone, I’m glad it’s you. I know you’ll make sure I’m alright

(In the canon where he and the rest of the previous papas are killed, the assassination happened while Dew was still early in the recovery stage and wasn’t quite lucid yet, meaning this was one of the last things he told Terzo before he died. Dew thinks about that conversation a lot and what he would of said had he known it would be the last time he’d see his Papa.)

Terzo’s magic is the least subtle of his brothers, sounding like rolls of thunder in the surrounding area- the more powerful the spell, the louder the crack of thunder. It doesn’t emanate form Terzo himself, which can give him some plausible deniability, but when you hear thunder round the Abbey and the weather forecast is all sunny skies, it’s pretty easy to put two and two together. No one complains all that much, though- it really adds to the spooky aesthetic they’re going for. Besides, who doesn’t love a little drama?

When his magic is visible, it takes on the appearance of electricity arcing through the air. We’ve all seen From The Pinnacle to the Pit, man’s is flashy as fuck. What can I say? It’s in his nature.

While all the Emeritus brothers are skilled at combative magic to some extent, Terzo is the most proficient of them, closely followed up by Primo. I mean, again, man shoots lightning from his hands, are we surprised?

THE GAMES - English and JP. Number one source above everything. Anything outside of it has to align with them to be considered because I'm specifically all about game canon Eggman and there's no other place that's going to define game Eggman than, well, the games themselves

Sonic Channel - Because Sega/Sonic Team JP are most credible when it comes to their own characters. the information is valuable and adds a lot of cool details, fun facts, art, stories, and videos, faithful to the games

TailsTube English and JP - Because they're made to be informative about the characters and world we see in the games and are meant to be the rundown of facts and things we need to know. Possibly also JP VTuber stream stuff but I still haven't gotten entire translations of VTuber Eggman's first appearance yet to be able to compile and analyze anything

Sega/Sonic Team official writers/creators, English or JP - ONLY if they worked on the specific piece of media/story/character they're speaking on. For example, Flynn on writing Frontiers, but if it's game he didn't write for then no. Unless it's someone who is a credible source on possessing knowledge even outside of that like Iizuka for example, and it adds up with the games' contents

Small bonuses - Some promotional material both English and JP. For example, the Sonic Forces join the Eggman Empire video on the English YouTube and the JP Sonic Forces Eggman takeover Eggman video because they're used to promote the games and don't contradict anything and only add to it. This varies as stuff that isn't directly tied to the games or made entirely in jest doesn't count

In rare cases I will also refer to bios to support already existing facts in the games further. But Eggman has had a couple of very inaccurate bios where he's done the exact opposite in the games of what the bio states at times. So it's not black and white, I don't take it as solid proof if it's only ever been stated in the bio and won't refer to bios alone. There has to be something to point to in the games that either proves or disproves the information provided

I see people do this a lot by talking like something is game canon and when asked for sources, they pull up Archie, X, Boom, SatAM, non canon apps, Twitter DMs, contradictory bios, etc, it makes stuff super confusing and most are from separate non canon universes

You can do what you want in your own fan stuff of course but please understand that I specifically discuss, analyze, and write about game canon Eggman myself here and value and appreciate canon and want to show my love and passion for it. And these are my heavily excessively analyzed sources for everything I gather and perceive of his character facts and writing etc

I'm also always trying to keep my headcanons and fics as accurate to what I learn from all of this as possible, so if you don't like how Eggman is in the games/any of these sources in terms of personality and actions, you won't like my stuff. Metroid Fusion Part 3: Sci-Fi magic!

One of my favorite aspects of Fusion is how creative it can get with its linearity

Oh sure about half the time you’re getting railroaded by arbitrary level design shenanigans like crumbling blocks (Fusion’s favorite trick) or Security Doors. But other times it’ll be something rather unique that tends to tie into the story

It may be the SA-X destroying some doors, some creatures in Sector 2 starting to gestate which will result in them later evolving into stronger forms when you go back there later in the game, the X trying to blow up the station etc

It’s fun, it’s varied, it’s creative and helps make the game feel more memorable by putting a ton of set pieces. Moreover it makes the gameworld feel alive, like some sort of ever-changing being that’s actively out to get you and you never know what it’s gonna do next

No other game in the series does this. Super only has some brief scripted moments here and there, mostly at the beginning and end, but otherwise very little “happens” on Zebes. Dread and Prime 3, despite taking many cues from Fusion’s linear design, don’t really try to be creative with said linrearity. Dread’s EMMIs probably wouldn’t have worked as intended if the game had too many scripted scenarios but there’s nothing in Prime 3′s story that necessitates its linearity as it mostly hinges on cutscenes, mostly nothing about the game’s world(s) changing.

On the one hand I love how Fusion brings back the Etecoons and Dachoras from Super as a nice continuity nod! However:

1) I don’t buy Adam’s explanation about the X ignoring them because they “had nothing of interest to the X”. The Dachoras can speedboost what are you talking about?

2) The stuff that Samus says about them, alongside her little musing at the start about this being the second time she’s owed her life to the baby has always been unintentionally hilarious to me

She says that the Etecoons and Dachoras were the ones who taught her the wall jump and speedboost, which was true back then....

....except just two years later Zero Mission would come out and have her use those very same abilities way before she met those creatures

Then Samus Returns came along and had the baby rescue her from Ridley, thus making it 3 times total that the baby saved her

I like to imagine that she suffered a little bit of brain damage from that initial X attack, she does say it had infected her central nervous system...

I once saw someone claim that Dread wasted the X because it had the X-infested Chozo soldiers had glowing white eyes which very plainly marked them as X in disguise which would go against the idea of the X being able to perfectly mimick other beings and in general none of the X there tried to successfully mimick someone to pull off tricks or anything.

First off: none of the X we see in the game are trying to trick Samus, they’re out for her blood just like in Fusion so there’d be no need for their disguises to be 100% accurate, much like how the SA-X has emotionless white eyes

Second: it’s true that Dread never utilizes the X’s ability to copy others to have a real John Carpenter’s the Thing type of situation (except for ZDR’s backstory)...but the same goes for Fusion, in fact it’s worse here!

Samus’ mission is to look for any survivors on the station, instead of using its scientist disguise to set the station to blow it would’ve been far stealthier and more in line with the X’s abilities for that specific X to trick Samus into thinking it’s a survivor thus lowering her guard and springing a trap on her....but it never happens!

Honestly as much as the X may have been based on the Thing I think the main reason for their mimicking abilities is simply to justify the SA-X’s existence and and reuse past enemies

Anyway let’s talk about flimsy sci-fi!

Now I know that this is a series about a woman with alien bird DNA i her, wearing a high tech suit of armor and with the ability to somehow turn into a ball, so realism isn’t exactly its top priority, and that’s fine!

Sci-fi, in a way, is just magic that tries to be somewhat credible, if it were 100% real it wouldn’t be sci fi it would be just straight science

However sci-fi must still adhere to some internal rules in order to not stretch its own believability while at the same time not try to explain itself too much because, in the end, there is no real explanation for stuff like faster than light travel or high tech pseudo bio armors

I have no issue with stuff like the Morph Ball because the series is smart enough to not even try to explain it, thus leaving it completely up to the viewer’s interpretation to imagine how this fancy piece of high tech gadgetry even works.

However there are a few occasions in Fusion where the game...kinda tries to explain some of its sci-fi elements and it...kinda ends up raising more questions than answers

So a Core-X downloads the data for the Varia Suit and gains its abilities. Adam points ou how this shouldn’t be possible since the X are purely organic creatures. Ok good, so what’s the explanation?

“They can process data organically”

....what does that even mean? Data is digital, how can you “process it organically”? Given that the X have absorbed the knowledge of human scientists I can believe that they’ve gained the ability to understand and decipher data but just because you know how to read a bunch of 1s and 0s that doesn’t mean you can suddenly develop an ability just by understanding the data. I can understand Samus’ armor: it downloads the data and so develops suit modifications following said data. And the game doesn’t bother to explain any further!

Then there’s the Ice Missiles. Samus can’t use the Ice Beam because her Metroid DNA has rendered vulnerable to cold. Ok it makes sense. So what’s so different about the Ice Missiles? They’re still a cold based weapon.

Maybe the idea is that the cold is contained inside the missiles’ caps thus not coming into contact with Samus’ own body? I would buy that explanation if not for the fact that the Missiles have to be at least partially generated by the armor. Yeah sure they’re a finite resource that can run out but you download the modification that allows them to have a freezing effect, meaning that the suit has to generate the cold in the first place right? It couldn’t have been that initial download and that’s that otherwise it would only apply to those exact missiles that Samus had while performing the download.

MBTI: ENTP - Extroverted, impulsive but also smart. Enneagram: I don't really know what this is tbh, but this is the result he got from an online test on truity.com :

If he's type 8, it seems he is confident, strong, ego-centric, controlling, confrontational. The result is very accurate to him.

And zodiac, for fun: he's a scorpio. I picked this one due to similar traits to the ones above.

I'm not sure what he canonically has, but he has autistic and adhd traits. I've also previously written him to be bipolar type 2. So I wouldn't say he is 100% confirmed to have these, but they often fit his personality.

Well... Aiko is definitely more bark than bite. She'd be happy to try and figure out how to use a weapon on a whim, but she hasn't had any previous practice.

She is empathetic and kind. Despite her intimidating nature, she's a shoulder to cry on and will care for you even if she doesn't know you. I can imagine her caring for crying drunk girls at parties, for example. And another good trait would be her adaptability.

Hmm she's more of an introvert. She doesn't like to be fussed over and doesn't like being touched either. Loud noises are unappealing. She prefers to be alone. So she is also more reserved and a little secretive. As a scout, she would probably befriend some people like Historia/Krista and Sasha, though.

😓 is your oc open-minded or stubborn? are they inquisitive or do they prefer to keep to their bubble of knowledge?

Dalia is very open-minded and has always been so. She doesn't immediately trust things and would rather do additional research on her own if she's curious about something. It takes her longer to "pick a side" on any matter, but she does it more accurately.

So I've been catching up on High Class Homos...

and was reminded of a particular plot point/character appearance choice that doesn't make the most sense to me, especially in the vaguely historical/fantasy setting of the story. (For context, I'm coming at this as someone who knows a lot about historical costuming, but by no means on a professional or even academic level, this is mostly just stuff I've absorbed over the years engaging with it as a hobby. I know that this series is not intended to be 100% historically accurate, and by no means take this as a serious critique of the work as a whole. I had just been texting my sibling about this yet again and realized I had a lot of thoughts about it)

So. The part that caught my attention was this

Spoiler Alert from this point forward.

This is Odette. She works as a maid in the castle and we care about her cause she and a princess in said castle are a couple of Useless Lesbians™. But a part of her backstory is that she hasn't always been a maid, no, she used to live in fairly remote village where she foraged and communed with the animals and all that jazz. And when she was romping about the woods, she looked like this.

Long, flowing, luscious locks that apparently were never put up or braided? As someone with about this length hair, probably longer, I can tell you that you do not necessarily want it down and in your way, *especially* outside where it can act as a net to catch various leaves, twigs, branches, bugs, etc.

And apparently no one at the castle thought of braiding it either when she goes to work in the kitchen, because part of her backstory is that she *had to cut her hair* (this connection to her past life and all that, I can understand the metaphorical authorial intent) in order to work safely in the kitchen.

Now, this has been a thing in history. Working class people, often young girls, have had to crop their hair pretty short in order to do certain work and keep themselves safe, among other reasons. However, if it was for work, this work took place factories, right at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, in order to not have their hair caught in fast-moving, definitely not OSHA compliant machinery.

The general understanding I have of this world is it's pre-Industrial Revolution, with a touch of fantasy to have things such as magically assisted gender transitions (which I genuinely love). Obviously there's a lot of various anachronisms here that I'm willing to suspend my disbelief about! This, however, not so much. And I was trying to figure out why and as far as I can tell it's because it's so central to her character arc/backstory, and there's a lot of other explanations that could've led to the same result - she used to have long hair, and now she has short hair. (It could be a personal choice to indicate her change of environment, part of her overall character arc as she plays around with presentation and becoming more comfortable with her queerness, she prefers how it feels, there's a lot of options) But the implication that long hair would be so much of hindrance in pre-Industrial kitchen is not really a thing.

Long hair is not that much harder to take care of and keep clean and out of the way. If anything, I'd argue it's easier with the level of technology they are implied to have access to. It can be braided and pinned up and fully covered by a headscarf, brushed out every day to minimize tangles/dirt/grease, all of this keeping it clean without necessarily needing to wash it every day. (Access to running/clean water and enough of it to wash regularly was very much a luxury for a lot of history and I got the vibe it was here too?) And I know this both from various historical sources (people have had long hair in a lot of different jobs at a lot of different points in time), and from personal experience!

There's a lot more specific anachronisms I could get into, but this was the main one that stuck out to me. Overall I have a lot of fun reading the series, I'm also just a wee history nerd and I don't always know when that will completely take over.

hi there, i want to thank you for talking about gastroparesis and sharing your experiences with tube feeding. i may or may not have gastroparesis as well, my gastric emptying test was inconclusive, but my stomach issues are pretty disabling and i have wondered if tube feeding might someday be necessary for me. hearing about your experience makes it a lot less scary sounding! i wonder if you would be comfortable sharing a little more about how tube feeding has improved your health, and impacted your daily life (for better or worse)? are there things you can do now that you couldn’t have done before tube feeding, or vice versa? feel free to take your time answering, or not answer at all if it’s too personal. either way, i appreciate you!

I can empathize with your GES results. They can just end up being just a snapshot of your entire experience, and unfortunately they can just catch you on a "good" day where your emptying times are better. I know some people will intentionally trigger flares to get more accurate numbers on their study.

I'll preface with a little more information about me. I was misdiagnosed for 16 years with Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome and dealt with that and other vague GI diagnoses like GERD and IBS-D episodically and it gradually got worse over time. I was never given a GES until 2022. After I got pregnant and gave birth in 2020 I drifted into this pattern of daily morning vomiting, then I went into a flare last August that I never left. I was diagnosed with gastroparesis in Nov 2022, caught covid for the first time at the end of Nov, and got my tube Jan 2023.

Tube feeding has significantly improved by health. I was slowly dying from starvation ketoacidosis in December 2022. But even when I was eating orally I struggled with severe gastric malabsorption for years and often felt symptoms of malnutrition and saw minor malnutrition on labs and never understood why because I was eating, but because of fatphobia I was never given a GES and I was never taken seriously until I lost a significant amount of weight. In the most severe moments I was having constant diarrhea and vomiting and I've had so many hospitalizations due to dehydration and vomiting alone when I was eating orally.

I'm about 7 months in and I'm getting about 1300-1500ish calories a day, which is not my goal and it needs to be increased. But the difference with it being in my jejunum is that I'm absorbing 100% of those calories and it has helped my energy and my immune system so much. I've been able to significantly slow the weight loss while we investigate the root cause of my gastroparesis, as well as test for intestinal dysmotility. My hair is growing back, my nails are stronger, and I'm having general improvement of my IBS-D.

That being said, being on feeds and fluids, especially continuous feeds, it does impact my lifestyle a lot. I need accommodations at work. I can't let my feeds get over room temp or fluctuate temp too much. When my bags are full and it's in my backpack I'm carrying 2L of liquid and a pump, plus an additional medical bag with supplies. I even have to sleep at an angle to prevent aspiration. And the fun of stoma care. Cats also seem to have a taste for formula and tubing, which has banished my fur children from our bedroom at night. My medical supplies take up half of my dining room. It's certainly a major life change.

But without all of that, I would be dead. For a lot of us, being without alternate nutrition means either death or severe suffering from symptoms of gastroparesis. This is my symptom tracker for vomiting over the past year. You can see the stark difference between July-December and January-now.

This alone was enough for me to justify for myself that a medical device was necessary. Even without the starvation, I still have two hernias from vomiting and developed chronic gastritis secondary to the GP.

The one thing with tube feeding is that your digestive system is like a muscle. If you don't use it, you lose it. And I've definitely noticed a decline in my capacity to tolerate anything in my stomach for long, even liquids. I'm grieving this and learning how to live with this because there isn't an alternative for me at this moment. I'm still trying, I use the gastric port to drain a lot just to keep what little of my stomach's function it still has.

Uhmmmmm there are multiple things this could be referring to, it could be a slight misinfo and talking about Dream having a sexuality crisis live on George's first cooking stream (March(?) 2021) in front of 300k people because per Dream's request after watching George take off 100 shirts from a challenge and get all sweaty, George wet his hair and then messed it up and when Dream saw it unironically yelled "HOLY COW, what? I have never seen your hair like that" and then proceed to not shut up about it for the next few minutes and tell George he should invest in hair gel to make it look like that every day (literally told him to get on Amazon after the stream). That's what's generally referred to as Dream's first sexuality realization to the audience.

The only other thing I think you could be asking about is The Quiz June 2021? Which was basically the first (yes, first) time Dream took an "Am I In Love With My Best Friend Quiz" on a discord podcast with George in the call. It definitely caused a certain shift in dnf and possibly what pushed Dream over the edge (all speculation) because every question made him more and more flustered. In particular when one of the questions were "Do you ever think about what it would be like to kiss your best friend?" Dream stayed silent for approximately 10 seconds straight after reading it outloud before going "Okay- Okay, no no" and George asking "why did that take you so long?" Dream was upset by the answer options because he was taking the answers extremely literally, and decided to pick "yes, but I think it would be like kissing my mom" (he said he doesn't think that's still quite accurate but it's the closest one) (George was dead silent 90% of the quiz) And after getting the result that Dream is "a little bit in love with [his] best friend" he stayed for a moment and then left so quickly George wasn't even able to process that he was gone.

And then there was dead silence for a week straight afterwards where the entire month they had done something every day until the started up again exactly a week later

Fun fact, people always talk about how the results said he was "34% in love" but that's because Dream misinterpreted the results. He read it as he got 34% but actually that was the total amount of people who had taken that test and gotten the same result as him. b) (13-17) with 16.3 percent: about 100 people

Genetic analysis of Valka, oc of @lunii12

Valka is the child of Valkyon and "Erika", except "Erika" has blue eyes. She is tall as heck, has- you know what heres the drawing i made today I'm not doing more work than I need to.

Valka:

Amber eyes-Dominant

Valkyon:

Amber eyes-Dominant over blue, recessive under brown

Amber-A/Blue-a

Valkyon has a blue eye allele. I know this because Lance has blue eyes and that means that their father had to have at least one to pass onto them. That makes it so that every child of him and Tia has at least one blue eye allele and at most one amber eye allele.

The children of "Erika" and Valkyon have the same eye genetics as Valkyon's parents: Mother aa, Father Aa. How adorable. There is a 50% chance for amber eyes and 50% for blue.

I could go on a tangent about how Valkyon can technically have green eyes but I'm not going to, because i already have.

If I do go in a rant about the green eyes he deserves (GREEN IS THE BEST COLOUR AND HES A GOOD MAN WHO DESERVES THE BEST OF EVERYTHING) I would come to the conclusion that the offspring have 25% chance of having grey eyes, 25% chance of having blue eyes, 25% chance of having green eyes and 25% chance of having amber eyes.

In all scenarios it is possible for Valka to have amber eyes, good job councilor Lunii.

The offspring would have a 50% chance of being tan and 50% chance of being pale. This is not an accurate portrayal of how skintone genetics actually work, there's like 10 different genes that all work together to determine skintone and I'm not going to pretend I know anything about it.

If silver hair is dominant: 25% of offspring has silver hair, 25% has ashen brown hair, 25% has blond hair and 25% has chestnut brown hair. I gave a blond allele to both parents in this case.

If silver hair is recessive and the mother is a homozyigote: All offsprings have brown hair.

Height:

I don't even know where to begin with this one. I did some research into it but any data i would need to understand it better is behind a paywall. All I can say for certain is that tall is dominant and short is recessive.

I have concluded that Tia is short, so she has two pairs of the short allele and therefore her offspring each have at least one short allele. Valkyon's father was described as tall, so he could have had a recessive short gene, but it was overwritten by his dominant tall genes.

If Valkyon was a homozygote, his offspring with "Erika" would have a 100% chance of being tall.

If Valkyon was a heterozygote, his offspring with "Erika" would have a 50% chance of being tall and a 50% chance of being short.

Potential height is determined by genetics, but actual height is the result of good nutrition during development.

I guess good job Lunii, i can't disprove that Valka can actually be nearly 2 meters tall.
