I completely agree, Vaggie and Charlie are really each other's antithesis and it's executed BADLY. The show doesn't do anything meaningful with their differences, if anything, it makes it starker. Their communication is terrible, they are not at all in sync with each other's needs and the only time they ever got actual development was when they separated to seek help for the battle with the exorcist, in which, they had more chemistry with their respective mentors than they ever had with each other (I honestly ship Vaggie and Carmilla a little after their spar, like come on, one time Carmilla lets her hair down, an act of vulnerability in some cultures, was with Vaggie and Vaggie also got her wings back after that fight too. Not to mention, they had a whole ass song together despite not meeting yet before the Chaggie song and has plus points for being original unlike Chaggie's song so Vamilla/Battleangel is a decent ship for me.)

Vaggie may say that she'll do anything for Charlie but she sure as hell won't let Charlie sing and have a deal with the same guy she had a deal back in episode 1. She also seems to forgot that her girlfriend is a grown-ass woman who can thrive on without her while she can't because she thinks she's worth nothing without Charlie. It's sad, really.

I'm honestly curious on what you'd discuss further on how Vaggie would have never let Charlie in but Charlie didn't think to knock, can you please share?

Ngl, while it's not an s-tier ship for me because I do adore zestmilla, battle angel is indeed an underrated pairing and tbh? At the very least Vaggie deserved to have an obsessive lesbian crush on Carmilla. I know it was allegedly planned for her to have an obsession with weapons and it got cut for time or other reasons. Whatever, more stripping of Vaggie's character and turning her into a bland nonentity so she doesn't compete for attention with literally everyone else.

As for your question; I would like to refer back to Charlie's rant at Alastor during their cannibal town date. No I will not be taking arguments on that, that's precisely what it was.

"Three years, three YEARS I've been sharing my life with her and I tell her EVERYTHING! My hopes, my dreams, my insecurities, my embarrassing habits, what fucking DEODORANT I like! And she keeps something, like THIS from ME! Why would she lie for so long? Did she think I wouldn't accept her? What about me, ME, says un-understanding?"

And if you watch her body language during this whole rant it's less emotional hurt and more... ego hurt? Like, this whole upset has gone from "the person I love and trust more than anything has been lying to me about who they are," to, "I share everything about myself with her and should have been entitled to this information."

And yeah, I get it, she was made to look incredibly stupid in front of a heavenly council right before being blasted back to Hell with an entire exorcist army aimed right at her front door. Anyone might be justifiably upset that such important info was kept from them. But as Carmilla literally says not ten minutes later, "You have a giant X over your eye and wield an angelic spear, it's not rocket science."

So Carmilla was able to take literally ONE look at Vaggie and clock her origins? Going further, depending on how you interpret Lucifer's gaze in Dad Beat Dad upon meeting Vaggie it's entirely possible HE clocked her as angelic too. And yet, the person who spends the most time around her somehow couldn't connect those dots? Charlie's optimistic but she's not dumb. She's got a naive understanding of sinners and how best to incite change but to miss something like THAT? I don't buy that Vaggie would have been able to keep that secret so easily if Charlie had been paying as much attention to her partner as any good and healthy relationship should.

But let's backtrack a bit. The notion that Vaggie's off emotionally is established all the way back in episode 3. Remember when Charlie's trying to get the others psyched about trust exercises and Vaggie shows a considerable lack of enthusiasm? What was the first thing out of Charlie's mouth after that? Is it, "hey you seem like you've got something on your mind; are you okay?"

Nope! It's a very embarrassed/annoyed, "Vaggie, we rehearsed this!"

After which she proceeds to blindside Vaggie with the news that she's the one who's going to be leading the trust unit that day. Wow, for all they rehearsed this pitch Vaggie sure seems left out of the loop on it doesn't she? When Vaggie tries to explain without explaining that she's neither qualified nor comfortable about this decision does Charlie say, "well okay then, but if you change your mind just let me know,"? Wrong again! She just says, "It's easy I'm sure you can handle this."

And again, Vaggie is both unprepared and uncomfortable and also unable to say no to Charlie so she defaults into her military training and starts speaking to them like a commanding officer would to their troops. And I don't blame her for that, we tend to fall back on emulating behavior we've seen when we don't know how to cope with something. When trust falls don't work, Charlie tries to retake control but Vaggie puts on a brave face and says she has it when she clearly doesn't. As chaotic shenanigans ensue Vaggie grows more and more desperate but somehow it isn't until she's literally chucking people off a roof that Charlie figures this has gone too far. Not to mention she's incredibly surprised that COMBAT is how Vaggie learned to trust people. Forgive me if I'm wrong but you've been her partner for three years by later admission and you DIDNT know she came from a military background?

Not to mention Vaggie spells it all out in black and white, "I took charge today and it all went sideways. I'm supposed to make your dreams a reality. I'm supposed to protect you. I'm supposed to never fail you" followed by, "If I can't help you, what's the point of me?"

Vaggie has serious issues with self worth, demonstrated here. And while I get Charlie is trying to respect boundaries to a certain point I cannot imagine that were I in her shoes I would leave my partner thinking that if they couldn't be useful they shouldn't be with me. And while to her credit Charlie does apologize, it feels a little pointless when the very next episode she's back to just ignoring what Vaggie says. Even then, that apology doesn't do much to address the real root of the issue. They work as a team? When and where is that EVER demonstrated? It's not a reassurance that Vaggie doesn't NEED to have some demonstrable use for Charlie to want to be with her. And even if it was Vaggie has already struck at the heart of their problem; she wants to be Charlie's armor AND her partner, but those positions cannot work in tandem. Because wanting to be someone's armor assumes they need protecting, and again I state, Charlie is a grown ass woman and one of the most powerful beings in all of hell. She was smart enough to avoid making a deal with Alastor in the pilot, why does Vaggie assume that Charlie NEEDS protecting? And a partner infers a level of equality that just isn't demonstrated in what we see of their relationship. There is no give and take with them supporting each other equally. It's vaggie either trying to draw blood from a stone to meet Charlie's unrealistic expectations, or Vaggie telling Charlie to alter core elements of her personality to appease her own subjects. And on the flip side; where does Charlie support Vaggie in anything resembling the way Vaggie supports Charlie?

Charlie pushed for Vaggie to come to Heaven with her because that was what SHE wanted. Even when Vaggie expressed her reluctance to go Charlie pushed and Vaggie folded even as she knew what ended up happening was a very real possibility. Why?

For all his bloodthirsty nature Alastor knows the political game way better than Vaggie does. Vaggie couldn't keep her shit together when Emily was just holding Charlie's hands and being friendly. That's not the type of partner a political figure should have, and whether she likes it or not as princess of hell Charlie's interwoven with the politics of hell. Being power hungry means Alastor has the genuine best advice for Charlie when it comes to handling bigwigs like the angels. And he's someone with an actual business interest in the hotel. Imagine someone asking him why he helps when he doesn't believe in redemption; and he tells them it's because he believes in Charlie. You don't hand someone the source of most of your power so easily if you do not have a sincere and earnest level of trust in them. And yet Al does it willingly, more than once.

I want to say that I don't hate Charlie or Vaggie. I just don't think they work well as a pairing because Vaggie gives too much and Charlie's more concerned with her people than her partner. And the lack of communication between the two of them is a real issue. Again, Vaggie might never have let Charlie in, but Charlie never thought to knock. She never thought to ask about Vaggie in any way that would suggest the sort of deep emotional love that the show so desperately wants us to believe they have.

And on some level, I think a good portion of the fandom feels it too. Seriously, run the numbers some time on just AO3; filter for the Chaggie tag, and then take out every other ship that those stories are actually about. The chaggie tag is filled with stories that are about someone else's relationship because beneath the surface there's nothing there.

Okay, I have some gripes about the self ship community. I need to get off my chest. This is a long one. Do not derail this, I will block you. Pro.ship and com.ship DO NOT try to interact with this post, I will block you too. I do not have the patience for this today.

I'm probably going to get shit for this or something, but I'm getting exhausted over this. The self ship community didn't used to be so scary and hateful. What the hell happened?? What happened to being understanding and kind to others who didn't feel comfortable sharing f/os or having doubles? Why the fuck are we dealing with people spreading lies, causing drama and pulling shit because they're mad someone doesn't want to share? Or causing shit because you end up finding out you share with someone, but instead of blocking them and moving on, you start shti instead? You go out of your way to attack them, harass them, give them trauma and make them feel unwelcome all because you couldn't stand the thought of someone else sharing an f/o instead of using the block button and the black list function that are right there. All because you couldn't respect someone's boundaries.

Why the hell are we being racist or ableist to each other for no other reason besides "I don't like them"? That doesn't give you the right to be cruel to someone because they're a different race or have a mental or physical disability they can not control. There's never an excuse to be out here being so hateful to someone because you feel like you're allowed to say a word or term that you have no right saying or reclaiming just because you want to drag someone down.

And then there are people who question if others' sexualites are valid or not because of the gender of fictional characters they're interested in??? When the hell did we decide that was a "good" idea to do any of this?? Then you have the audacity to claim they aren't valid enough to be considered their own sexuality or gender because they're not good enough for you? Why the hell would you think this is okay?? Does it make you feel better about yourself?? Because it shouldn't. And if it does? You need to take a moment and ask yourself why.

And don't even get me started on the fact that we have to deal with so many pro.shippers and com.shippers in this community. Especially ones that try to lie about it, hide it, and disrespect other's boundaries. We already have to deal with enough toxic bullshit in this community enough as it is, and now we have to deal with these people as well.

It's already hard enough to thrive and grow in this community enough as it is due to the whole fact that unless you're popular or ship with a popular character or have a more appealing and attractive art style compared to others, you don't get much interactions at all. It's a struggle enough in this community for small blogs. We don't need to add on all of this hate to it.

All of this is exhausting and frustrating. I remember when it used to be fun and welcoming, and when we tried to uplift each other, give each other a boost and respected other people's wishes and boundaries. What the hell happened?? When did this all change?? If you're uncomfortable sharing, you're valid, but please don't be so rude and disrespectful to others over it. The block button and the black list function are available to us. It applies to basically everything. Someone rubs you the wrong way, or you don't want to interact with them? Block them. You don't like a person? Block them. Don't like a ship that involves a character you don't like? Black list the tag. It's that simple. I really wish we didn't have all of this hatred happening right now. I really wish this community wasn't so scary and cause so much anxiety for people. Self shipping is supposed to be about having fun and for your own comfort. What happened? What happened to this community?? We need to fix this. People have left the community because of all of this or have been driven out by others over this. This has to stop. We have to do something. I know I myself am just one person, and I'm just a small blog, but it doesn't mean I can't use my voice to an extent.

Random but i miss 2020/21/22 when the KawaSara fandom was so active, now i barely see people talking about them or making content. Someone needs to bring back the KawaSara fandom somehow😭.

Ikr? its not much but I am trying to bring the fandom back to life as best I can but Im pretty much a one woman army lol plus a lot of personal life stuff has had me busy which hindered my efforts a bit that Im trying to make up for now, starting with hosting this years KawaSara week since the original organizers didn't do it last year and didn't appear to be going to this year either, so I took over because I knew we had support, fans were telling me how sad they were that it didn't happen last year and was begging for someone to organize it this year, so I took that upon myself to do because I didn't wanna see the week not happen this year either because nobody else stepped up to make it happen.

It sucks how so many got run off by bsa constantly harassing them and making them fearful of even making content for the ship because they knew they would get harassed and didn't wanna deal with it.

Alot of ppl also lost faith in the ship, which is understandable, but stupid IMO because there are ships that have gone through worse than KawaSara and became canon but for some reason ppl treated this like 'oh no, conflict, no way this is happening' and Im just like...danm yall really don't know how shipping works huh? but I mean to each their own but like Vegebul is right there if you wanna see a ship thats been through some REAL shit and look at em now.

It's like todays new age shipping everything has to be smooth sailing, super healthy, super pure, minimal to no conflict, for ppl to ship it and believe it'll be canon when that just isn't how it goes.

Like I even saw a shade tweet one time talkin about 'I actually like my ships vanilla, whats wrong with actually wanting a healthy ship built on mutual respect and positive development without any conflict or drama etc' and Im just like...OK? who tf said you couldn't? but these newbies actually treat shipping like some purity contest and have a weird superiority complex for liking the 'healthier' ships and anyone who doesn't like the 'healthy' ship are weird and horrible and don't care about xyz characters etc

Its so dumb, and childish, if all storytellers followed their logic then we wouldn't have some of the best ships in fiction because only the 'healthy' ones would be canon.

Nobody is saying they cant like healthy ships, but doing so does not make them superior to anyone else nor does it give them the right to dictate what other ppl should ship simply because they disagree and think only healthy ships should be supported, thats what ppl have a problem with. You can argue the opposite side has done the same but there is a big difference in severity between the two, 'healthy' shippers act way more superior and aggressive than 'toxic' shippers [as they call them] are.

But on the bright side KawaSara week has been announced to be happening this year and a surprising amount of ppl liked and retweeted it, so it just goes to show KawaSara fans DO still exist and enjoy the ship, they just went quiet or into hiding because of the harrassment.

And guess what? even tho the event page was specifically tagged KAWASARA don't you know antis 'somehow' found it? not even a day passed since it was posted before multiple antis flocked to the announcement to talk shit, that is a prime example right there why KawaSara fans got so quiet and discouraged from making content and talking about the ship, because THIS is what happens when you dare not fall in line with the BoruSara hivemind cult.

If you dont treat Sarada like Borutos exclusive property whos whole world and character revolves around him, then you don't care about Sarada or her feelings

Their logic not mine, so if you dare pair Sarada with someone other than Boruto who they believe owns her, then you don't care about her. If you don't support the narrative THEY set for her regardless if its been confirmed or stated as a canon fact or not, then you don't care about her because fanon interpretations > canon.

This is why I say this behavior screams insecure, I dunno how you could be the most popular ship with the biggest fandom and the most support, a hug in both the anime and manga, being 'fed good' more than any other ship, yet still be THIS triggered by KawaSara just EXISTING

keep in mind this is the ship they claim is dead, a crackship with zero chance of happening, yet they get so riled up everytime KawaSara is mentioned or so much as have a crumb together they all flock to try and discredit and undermine it, if KawaSara fans just have even a tiny bit of fun and happiness with the ship they come flocking to discourage you and make you feel bad.

That level of obsession with a ship you claim has NO CHANCE and is a non threat because your ship is already canon and set in stone, admit it or not, but their behavior screams that their threatened and arent really confident in their ship themselves which is why they feel the need to try and keep KawaSara down to lift themselves up because its the only way they feel secure, by making US go away, and when we don't, they get mad, because for some odd reason they just cant stand to see another shp besides BoruSara getting attention, love, and support, it drives them MAD.

Which is why you cant convince me their not insecure about their ship, that their not threatened by KawaSara, because to put it into perspective think about it like this, do you see SNS being bothered by SasuHinas existence? no right? know why? cuz their secure in their ship and don't feel threatened by SH, so SH is free to exist openly without SNS harassing them because they don't care, SH is irrelevant and has zero impact on them.

Thats how you would think BoruSara would be given how they boast about themselves, how much they have going for em, their popularity, their support, many moments, you'd think they'd be on cloud 9 not even paying little ol KawaSara and BoruSumi any mind but they do, and for some reason its KawaSara especially that gets under their skin more than anything which is strange tbh since thats the ship thats not even semi canon yet.

Lemme put that into perspective, they are more insecure about a ship thats not even semi canon yet, than BoruMitsu, BoruSumi, KawaAda and BoruAda that are semi canon [since many bsa also ship ksu] let that sink in.

I dunno why they have such a specific hatred towards KawaSara, maybe its because a lot of them hate Kawaki, and because Boruto is the top male prize and Sarada is the top female prize in their eyes, therefore nobody else is good enough for them but each other. And by top prizes, Im talking primarily about eugenics and status.

Read between the lines, what was Sakura? the pretty girl all the guys wanted, what was Sasuke? the cool handsome guy from a prestigious clan all the girls wanted, now what is Sarada? the cool pretty Uchiha princess, what is Boruto? the cool young lord all the girls fall for, their not subtle about it at all.

They discredit Sumire's feelings as insincere so she don't feel like a threat, they diminish and downplay Kawakis bond with team 7 and insist he's not even a part of it, they weirdly were fixated on Kawaki's body being inorganic and therefor concluding he was infertile and therefore couldn't have kids and therefore that'd be the end of the Uchiha clan if she was with him [which is telling of how they perceive her that her primary goal in the relationship would be popping babies, not love] they deny Kawaki as a part of the Uzumaki fam, saying he's unworthy, Naruto should disown him, etc etc, to keep him as the worthless orphan that deserves to die they want him to be.

Again, read between the lines, they dont give a danm about Boruto and Sarada together fr fr, this ship is about eugenics, this ship is about being able to brag about the young lord baggin the Uchiha heiress/Hokage, its about bragging rights, its about having the ship with the 2 biggest prizes, its about OP babies finally fulfilling their long weirdly held desire to see what those clan bloodlines mixed together would create, its about saying you don't want SS 2.0 except when its the ship you want then suddenly its A-ok

Sorry I went on a bit of a rant but It really is annoying that KawaSara fans cant just exist in peace and always gotta hear them telling us why we shouldn't ship it, why it has no chance, why BoruSara is so superior and set in stone and we should just accept it yatta yatta yatta instead of just minding their danm business.

Yes I know all fandoms are guilty of this, but none like BoruSara, why? cuz its a far bigger fanbase with more support and they use it to their advantage, doesn't help that a lot of boruto stans support the ship as well as many Sarada fans [mostly Boruto stans tho] they even have SS and NH support too, so you cannot compare it. Their a much larger fandom with way more support that makes it extremely easy for them to bully every other fandom because their much smaller and they know it, everyone knows it, but they get away with it cuz whos gonna stop em? their the biggest and the loudest and therefore are right by default because the smaller fandoms are just 'haters' and 'jealous' 😒 lemme stop here

Bottom line I agree, it was nice back then before Ikemoto changed so much when he took over the writing after Kodachi left, ever since then he has completely butchered Sarada's character beyond recognition, not because she understandably cares and worries about her friend, but because thats ALL she cares and worries about, I don't think anyone has even noticed that Sarada hasn't mentioned Naruto or her mother once since the timeskip started besides that one speech that wasn't about either of them, but just about her defending Boruto, not about any grief over her idol being killed, not remorse for sending her dad away and leaving her mom without her husband, no the one and only time she mentions them is to defend Boruto which is abusmal, she didn't even mention her own dad until Boruto MADE her ask about him.

If thats the ship you want me to support then Im good, I don't want a ship where her only personality trait, motivations, goals, and character as a whole revolves entirely around a man and nothing else, just how to make HIS life better and being there for HIS pain and growth and only lifting HIM up while staying in the background doing nothing and having nothing going on for herself.

I know this may sound like 'but wait that makes it sound like KawaSara wont be canon' no Im not saying that, KawaSara is not off the table even with all that bs Ikemoto has done so far, like I said with Vegebul and just shipping in general, just because things look bad doesn't mean you lost, you haven't lost until somethings made official.

Are BoruSara together? no, are they semi canon? no, have either of them been shown or confirmed to have romantic feelings for each other? no, so nothing is lost yet, even if they were semi canon that still wouldn't be a loss because the other half has to reciprocate, like just cuz Sakura, Ino, and Karin liked Sasuke didn't mean he had to reciprocate any of them, just like even if Sarada liked Boruto doesn't mean he has to reciprocate those feelings or vice versa.

The only time a ship has truely 'lost' is when its actually dead, like one half of it dies for example, or its rival ship gets together, or their relationship is ruined beyond repair, like to the point of no possibility of redemption, only then has a ship truely 'lost' and 'died'

So no, none of this is me saying KawaSara cant still happen, it definitely can, especially with Ikemoto and Kishimoto saying Kawaki would be getting more development soon so there's that, if we get more Kawaki focus there might be some Sarada focus in there too in between. I don't wanna speculate tho but thats just a possibility Im throwing out there.

Regardless, sorry for the rant, but I'm really frustrated by this too because its 2024 now and ppl still cant leave KawaSara tf alone? thats what I meant when I said they take advantage of their size, they know they can silence us, but nobody can silence them, and that pisses me off but what can you do.

But hopefully the announcement of KawaSara week this year will get the fandom active and making content again for fans to enjoy, I will try to contribute something myself, I can understand why a lot of ppl might not wanna bother because of the hate they know they'll receive but I hope they don't let that stop them, it was bad enough KawaSara week wasn't hosted last year and everyone was really bummed about it, I don't want them to be happy seeing it happen this year only to not participate because antis wont let them have fun and enjoy the event in peace 🙏 I really hope the fam stays strong and don't let antis stop them from enjoying THEIR event.

Long Post Ahead

Ok yesterday and today I've been busy, so I haven't had time to write up that "ongoing codywan fic recs" post yet, but I promise it'll be up soon (that shit takes a surprisingly long time).

Right now, though, I just want to say something--and yes, I know I said some of it in the reblog of another post, but I was pissed when I wrote that and now want to expand on what I said a bit better.

Everyone and their mother knows, by now, that Glimmer deleted all of their fics off of Ao3 because some asshole decided to harass them and make them feel like shit. Glimmer isn't the only creator that's been harassed off their platform before and I highly doubt they'll be the last, especially if things continue like they are, but I think a wake-up call is in order.

Everyone has been talking about supporting creators you like and making sure they know they're appreciated, which you absolutely should be doing, but I the bigger issue is entitlement.

Let me spell it out for some of y'all:

Creators don't owe you shit.

I think a lot of people harass creators for liking things they don't because they feel entitled to having their opinions validated by their peers--and having their peers not validate their opinions, whether that be by shipping a different pairing or not agreeing with some of their theories or whatever, makes them angry and feel like they've been personally wronged.

They also feel entitled to interacting with everyone and everything, so they think other people should change what they post rather than just filtering out tags, blocking people, etc--because they want to reap the benefits of creators without having to engage with things they might disagree with.

They don't want to give something they like up so they don't have to interact with something that makes them uncomfortable, but they also don't want to have to interact with (read: see) things they don't like in order to see the stuff they do.

Like I said: entitlement.

But here's the thing: people are going, and are allowed, to disagree with you.

That's life.

It is your responsibility, and your responsibility alone, to cultivate your feed and keep yourself from seeing shit you don't want to. No one else's.

You don't like a certain ship? Filter out the tag.

You don't like someone's opinion on the fandom media? Block them.

A post popped up that you didn't like? Hit "not interested."

If you like one thing from a creator but not something else then that is on you to decide whether or not to keep interacting with them/their works, it is not their responsibility to cater to you.

Again: creators don't owe you shit.

Not their art, not their fics, not their recs, not their theories, not their time, not their responses, not anything. Getting to interact with them and their works is a privilege, not a right, and y'all need to start acting like it.

You do not get to harass them for not agreeing with you on everything or validating your opinions.

And if you do harass others? Then you are a shit person and you don't deserve to ever interact with another creator's work again, because you are the reason we're losing so many talented and genuinely kind people to fandom toxicity.

And if one of your favorite creators gets harassed off a platform and you've harassed others? Then I feel sorry for them, but you don't have a single fucking right to complain about losing them when you are the one who's created a space where harassing creators for their work is ok.

Start minding your own fucking business and leave creators alone.

I love how some of the reaction to the information from Deep Cover has been people just want to frame her in a bad light without considering or even attempting to analyze the reasons behind her behavior. As though these same individuals weren't literally just harassing people for analyzing her character in ways they did not like.

Yet, now, they're asking for people to analyze her more to find out what?

No, people just need someone to find a reason why she's still redeemable. As I've been saying and will continue to say if your forgiveness is contingent upon someone being a good person who you can morally agree with that is not forgives that is just an agreement. That is just a deal.

By forgiving for that reason one is going I expect this other person to behave in ways that will be pleasing to me so I think what they did is fine. Something that only leaves room for disappointment when that person does not turn out to be as moral as one believed them to be.

Add to this that others have been continually harassing people within this community that theorize about characters in a way they personally don't find appealing or see as framing them too negatively. Like yeah no one wants to analyze her. I don't want to see anyone asking for nuance now that was behaving the way I saw before when it came to other trials. It's not that serious it's all in good fun, my verdict doesn't say anything about me, keep that energy. Then on top of that don't expect people you've consistently met with hostility and disrespect to make your case for you when you need it.

Just because it would be helpful for the characters you favor. Literally no one wants to analyze her because some people within this fandom have made analyzing Milgram feel like a wholly unsafe thing to do. The people who like Kotoko's character regardless of her flaws have something that none of the others who favored the prisoners before this point did-

A full month before her music video releases and her trial starts to figure out how to explain this behavior. I say let them figure it out. However, people claiming no one wants to look at Kotoko's situation with nuance are either being disingenious or haven't seen the constant bullshit people who analyze these characters actually go through.

Do it yourselves then. It's a lot of work, it's thankless, but analyzing things is fun. Exploring the media one enjoys and figuring out why they enjoy it is fulfilling. Today as I am in a foul mood I find myself thinking about that time I posted a suicide note on here, years ago, and one of you literally scoured my tags to figure out where I lived. And what gave me away was a Snapchat I posted of me in a McDonald's uniform as my Halloween costume at my job at Burger King. And I had tagged the location in the photo.

So you call my job. And my manager calls me, very concerned. I think I didn't answer or I hung up maybe. This is years ago now, I don't really remember. I am at school. and she calls my mom and my mom calls the cops and i am taken out of school, strapped down in the mental illness burrito on a gurney in front of all of my classmates.

I am furious with you. The next time I try to hurt myself I don't tell anyone. But I fail. Then I willingly tell someone, and I am shipped off to the psych ward yet again.

In and out, cryptic posts, cries for help, help shoved down my throat. I am given multiple medicines. I gain weight, starve it off, quit the meds, start new meds. I do CBT, DBT, ACT, outpatient programs, inpatient stays, and eventually I am an adult and I graduate high school and I become an alcoholic.

I am smoking too much weed and drinking too much booze and I hate my body and my parents and my life. I drop out of college and my mom forces me to turn in my license. I am kicked out of the house two weeks later with no money and no transportation.

I go in and out of my parents lives, I do psychedelics. I appreciate life sometimes but I am still falling apart every couple months and find myself back in the hospital frequently. I wonder if it was worth it.

I wonder if your desperate search through my posts to find me help were worth it. The effort a stranger took to help a sad teenager get help. And the help was just locking me up for a week and telling me to touch grass, basically. An opportunity to cool down and make me reconsider taking my own life.

But then the life I chose to keep was shit. It is shit. It will probably forever be shit. And I resent you. I got raped. I got an abortion. got abused. I was homeless and harassed by cops and got addicted to drugs and toxic men and fucked up my body. I got my brain shocked because nothing else was working and I lived through a pandemic.

I wouldn't have had to do all that if you had let me die.

But then I remember I wouldn't have met my kitten. I wouldn't have gotten my first apartment, my first car. I wouldn't know the people I know now who I love. Who love me.

I wouldn't have gotten promoted at work. I wouldn't have made art, listened to songs that fill me with joy and sorrow, made music with my best friends. I wouldn't have visited Mt Washington and felt peace looking at her. I wouldn't have laughed as much or made others laugh with my shitty dad jokes.

I wouldn't have anything without you. I lost everything and gained everything because of you. And you were probably a kid too.

Okay, you seem to have thoughts on RPF that I would like to hear more about. It's been a big convo in the fandom lately.

Ah, anon, it's like you want me to get dragged through the coals in this ""new"" fandom.

I feel like I need to preface this with several things. The first thing is that, while I am not necessarily old (though I am feeling tremendously ancient, but that's neither here nor there), I am a fandom old in many ways. I have been involved in fandom for going on twenty years now. The second thing, a sad thing I have to specify before I continue, is ofc I do not, nor does any sane person, condone the harassment of real people over a ship. But that second thing is related to the first thing and that's something I can dive into as I continue -- though I do promise not to make this ungodly long in my rambling.

Fandom has been around for -- forever. One of my favorite things I learned in some of my college classes was about Pamela by Samuel Richardson and how it was such a popular novel, arguably one of the earliest English novels ever published, that people had tea sets with scenes painted on the cups and the pot or how women had fans with lines from the novel on them. A fandom. But fandom as we know it has been around forever too. Protesting the death of Sherlock Holmes in the streets of London, science fiction conventions in the 1930s, and, in terms of today's fandom, the 1970s and Star Trek and The Man from UNCLE tv series, etc. It's been there and it's been growing and growing as the Internet has made everything more accessible.

When I first got into fandom, around the age of 8, courtesy of an older cousin who wrote fanfiction and introduced it to me, I was way too young to be in fandom space. But I was there and I can't go back and change that. And what I will say is that being in fandom at that young of an age and growing up permanently within fandom spaces, as I've never left, has taught me quite a lot and I have seen fandom change in a lot of ways, and not for the better, in my time.

Old-school fandom had some really great policies that I see people trying to bring back. Things like squicks and notps and just all of these old little terms that used to be second-nature and have been somewhat forgotten are maybe coming back because they need to. One of my favorite old-school fandom policies is 'don't like, don't read.' I hope that one comes back ASAP.

Where I'm trying to go with all of this is here: fandom has existed long before most of us were alive. The existence of RPF fandom and fanfiction has existed since long before most of us were alive.

We can get into the morality debate of RPF all we want, but I promise every debate about it has already happened, been done, and people have taken their sides on it.

There are, of course, extreme sides on RPF. But there are extreme sides of regular fanfiction too. I've seen fandoms threaten writers and producers of shows because their ship didn't go canon. I've seen fandoms harass actors that don't agree with fandom-based headcanons of characters or started campaigns to make their fanfiction dreams come true.

Everything is fine if it is kept where fandom is supposed to be -- in fandom spaces. AO3 has a fantastic tagging system for things so you can avoid what you don't want to see and can find what you want, and if someone is tagging things incorrectly, you can politely do what you can to correct them and/or report it to AO3 for being incorrect. Like this is all possible, it's one of the many wonderful things of newer fandom (okay, AO3 is the best thing that ever happened to newer fandom, I cannot imagine life without it).

What kills me is there seems to be some kind of misunderstanding on what shipping is compared to what tinhatting is and compared to what blatant harassment is. Those three things are all distinctly different. And this very much seems to be a new-to-fandom issue. Like -- babies getting involved in fandom for the first time, or in the time of post-COVID Internet.

I'm dreading multiple things from RPF, and none of it is actually RPF (and we all know what fandom I'm talking about rn). The first thing is the harassment of people that do write RPF; like I'm expecting full on death threats at the rate I'm seeing things right now. The second thing is that people are freaking out so much about it, and making so many callout posts about it, that they're going to actually bring attention to it where the one singular RPF fic I've seen in the fandom was just quietly posted and not discussed in detail, the author just went on minding their business, as we all should.

Anyway. This is rambly and no doubt somewhat incoherent, but it's where I am. I'm too old for this kind of debate, again, and I really just want everyone to stay in their little corners and enjoy fandom where it makes them happy.

So I'm super recently know Smosh and both Courtney & Shayne. (I'll called them C & S) My first exposure to Smosh is on TNTL#106 (Released on Oct 26th 2022) because of Funhaus collab. Which I watched them regularly.

After that, I start watching others Funhaus collab and saw both C & S and instantly found that they have a very unique chemistry. So I decided to explore further more and start falling in love with them. At first, I thought that they're already couple until I found "Sucks At Dating" video series that make me realized they're singles back then. lmao

Then, I start follow C & S on their social to get to know them better and saw that C has YouTube channel and just restart posting vlog after 3 years hiatus. Of course I jump in and watch. After watching S's TikTok and C's vlog, I start seeing the same room all over their video. That's when I first realized that Shourtney might be real.

Let's explain the origin of proof post. I'm mostly using Tumblr as my fandom expression. When I arrived here, Shourtney tag is basically a graveyard. Not a lot of people rarely using it anymore. So I decided to create the post after I saw that Tumblr post:

At first, the post is just this photo and bunch of things that I noticed in their video. But somehow there's still people checking Shourtney tag and found my post. They start sending me to fans IG that post even more proof and stuff. (Which from my standpoint, I really don't like that they put it there because both C & S used IG regularly.) Then it became what the post is today. Which I will ONLY posting the photo or video that they're will to share.

A: So, after spending time in this fandom. A lot of people here just loved their chemistry and their interaction together and want them to be happy. But in the back of our mind, if they're not dating we should respect their decision and just appreciated those moment that we can see in the video. So when we finally know that they're really dating, we just happy that they're happy and looking for more thing that they're willing to share with us. (Which they recently do btw)

A: Yeah at first we don't really do shipping because real people shipping is MOSTLY IMPOSSIBLE to happen and we want to respect them. But if you watch old SmoshCast. There's a discussion about Shourtney shipping that they talk about. Synopsis is below:

They basically doesn't care if anyone ship them and C was also in shipping situation also. Also, if you're watching C anon Q&A that just released recently. I suppose I'm not too bothered by RPF as a concept. But the culture that surrounds it is awful (huge overlap with celebrity culture).

Sure, there's a lot of really generic "insert hot character here" stuff out there but there are also works with creepy levels of detail and research that receive praise rather than scorn. And, of course, complied research posts to back everything up.

Then there's Real Person Shippers who will try to "prove" that their ship is "canon" (to real life??). This is especially awful when it comes to gay Real Person Ships because this is how people get outed without their consent. It can and has also ruined friendships.

So, it would be fair to say that my issue with RPF/RPS fandoms is that creepiness is rewarded, rather than punished or criticised. That bothers me and it should bother other people too.

Also this might just be a Modern Internet thing but people have become way too comfortable showing their RPF, RPS works and NSFW fanart to performers. Why are they tagging performers on Twitter to show them this stuff? 99% of performers won't enjoy the experience, and even then they have a limit! And they can't tell you to stop because no one would listen anyway and it would make them look unapproachable (to the fans that look for parasocial relationships, or just don't want to hear a performer say "no") .

As long as people (A) respect the boundaries of performers (B) take issue with people who don't respect those boundaries in their fandoms and (C) keep their works in fandom spaces like Tumblr/AO3/deviantart and away from public spaces like Twitter/Instagram/Facebook, I don't mind. But people seem to have no sense of boundaries or consideration for their fellow man these days, so I'd feel safer with the knowledge that they're only acting like this towards or about fictional people who don't exist.

You only think RPF has a huge overlap with celebrity culture because you only see RPF when people with no boundaries are sticking it in celebrity culture spaces. Better RPF shippers are off on some fic site, keeping to themselves.

There's no inherent connection between liking to read fake-ass AUs where celebs are elves running a coffee shop and caring what's in the tabloids. Even the detail-heavy fics are usually just things a passionate fan would know from public appearances. Some people have a good mind for details.

I agree that the worst of the Larry shippers were horrendous, but that isn't what most RPF fandom looks like.

Frankly, shoving nsfw of a character with their face under an actor's nose is common today too. I think plenty of actors wouldn't take it any differently than RPF subjects do. The worst of FPF shippers conflate actors with their roles or harass canon's creators about making things canon.

RPF vs. FPF is not the difference. Gross celebrity culture with no boundaries on twitter often is though.

this seems like a thing you'd have thoughts about. I'm annoyed over the recent rise in expecting an author to do something and getting annoyed when they don't. this applies to ships, deaths, ending. obviously being upset over them not doing something in fine, but I've seen a ton of people expecting the author to bend to their will. it's like the cosmic opposite of death of the author. 'the author is alive and living in your walls and must act based off what they hear'. a new book i've been wanting came out today and I hadn't blocked the tags for it yet and i saw a post that started with 'it's the author's fault that-' before i aborted and blocked the tag but i'm like yes?? usually the author has plans and if your (or even a whole fandom's) wants go against that, chances are they aren't just gonna....change the whole plan? i've seen this a lot for ships, or even in certain characters, people going 'this is the wrong narrator'. idk, to me it feels like you're going into it not as someone consuming media, but someone wanting to alter the world. and obvs fanfiction is great for that but (esp in certain fandoms) they expect things to be more choose-your-own-adventure-y? I also just in general think fans have become super obsessed with the concept of things being "right", so if the author writes something OOC (technically impossible) for plot purposes or has character growth in a way the fans don't want, the fans riot and call it poor writing. as a writer it weirds me out cause I *know* where I want to go, I *have* plans, and obviously they'll change, but I'm not sure the changes will be based on tumblr rants. plus for shipping, not everything is queerbaiting if a hinted at gay ship doesnt go canon. idk, this seems like something you'll have insight on

namely, that anyone who thinks a character is OOC is in denial. either that they've just sorely misinterpreted a character, or that maybe the source material just isn't For Them anymore. it's hard to reconcile with for sure, especially when you love a fictional world with your whole heart.

i can even see how the loss of control over something you care so deeply for could be painful or overwhelming. and that wound to the ego might make you livid. but it's just that: a wound to the ego. a loss of control over something you fooled yourself into believing you had even an ounce of control over, when you didn't.

you were always just along for the ride.

it's concerning that people would jump to say "you didn't do this right! you ruined everything!" to the author, rather than realising that they just didn't vibe with what the author wrote. there needs to be a way we can express a disagreement in preferences without making it a death threat.

or, perhaps more urgently, there needs to be a way we can all realise that expressing our every opinion loudly isn't always wanted or needed. because in the case of fictional worlds, our opinions often don't matter. in the case of seasoned and/or published authors, they aren't warranted.

i think authors can do a poor job in constructing character arcs, or keeping characters consistent through a longer series. i think, sometimes, they can use character decisions for shock value instead of something that is maybe more in line with what we've previously been told about the character.

but the fact that the phrase "OOC" even exists in the context of the original creator has always been laughable to me. ultimately, it's their decision how they portray their characters. it's their world. not ours.

First I just wanted to say that I love everything about your blog, it has been such a comfort in the past 3 years of my life and has really put me through some very distressing moments. I think you are a wonderful person.

I think you are way too kind and far more decent than me spreading positivity and seeing the bright side on the whole Loki finale. I sadly can't do the same because I got so angry and frustrated with the fandom today.

I loved the show, everything about it, I love Sci Fi, and time travel related show, I even rant for an hour with my fiance about how much the show feels like Russell T Davis' Doctor Who and how incredibly clever it was.

As far as I understand the need for representation as a bisexual woman myself I hate it when people get so demanding and entitled over other people who owes you nothing, because they harass and hurt people instead of being constructive about it, thats why queer shows don't get far, because we are to focus on hating what is already there than creating something better or new.

I love the series, and I too wish for loki to end up with Mobius, which I know it won't happen as Drarry didn't happened and Johnlock didn't happened, that's why wonderful writers like you are out there to give us a chance to believe, And I will watch the next season and enjoy it even if doesn't end the way I want it to, because I care and support every wonderful person being in there, I just can't be part of the fandom right now because they are just too demeaning and cruell and I feel erased because if I dated girls and loved some of them and end up falling for a boy am I also not enough Bi? I understand what you mean, completely! I was browsing the Loki tag last night to share my excitement and my heart ached when most of what I read was so negative. Like I said yesterday, if you don't like the show and you have your reasons for it, that's fine by me but what a lot of people underestimate is how much hard work went into making this show. Everyone involved and especially Tom put a lot of thought into it and there is a huge difference between posting rude comments because what certain individuals wanted to happen didn’t happen or downplaying the effort they all made to produce this show, and voicing your opinion in a respectful and plausible way.

I understand a lot of fans wanted Mobius x Loki to happen. Sure, why not? But ultimately, the writers make the decision. When I write a book, I create the ships that feel right to me as well if that is what I have planned for the story and what I enjoy writing, they’ll never be able to please absolutely everyone. It’s all subjective, that’s fine. All I ask is for people to be respectful. Real people worked on this show. Real people who poured their heart and soul into this.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I loved the show so much! In fact, with some comments claiming that Loki had no character development in this show (?!) I do ask myself if we’ve even watched the same series. If you disagree with someone, that is okay--and it’s also okay to step away from the conversation if you are getting uncomfortable. There is no reason to waste your energy on rude comments or people trying to force their opinion on you because they believe that just because they didn’t like the show, everyone else has to dislike it too. Just like they have reasons for why they disliked it, we have reasons for why we liked it!

when you talk about antis, do you mean anti shippers or specifically anti loki/sylvie shippers? I'm asking because every blog i've seen that says it's "proship" has been about actually horrible ships, for example just today I was looking at a tag for one of my favorite characters and multiple ship drawings of him with others popped up, but the only one that was tagged as "proship" was of him and his son. And when these terms first came around I asked plenty of blogs what they meant when they said they were antiship and they said they don't care about shipping in general, but they're against p*do and inc*st ships. I'm not asking because I think you're a bad person or because I hate that loki/sylvie ship, (I haven't even watched Loki.) It's just surprising every time I see you post about anti-shippers. I see someone talking about how bad anti's are and i immediately think back to how many people would get mad at me for asking people not to tag my art as things like "Saeran x Saeyoung" or "kagaminecest" because "Stupid anti's think they can control what other people ship" Or is it another case where the meaning has just changed and I didn't know? Like how people on tumblr would "kin" characters and think they actually were them whilst now "kinning" normally just means you relate a lot to said character. I genuinely like you and your writing so I'm really not trying to be rude or offensive, I just don't understand.

I can’t talk for anyone else, I know that people have different ideas of what things mean, and with fandom terminology I think things always get mixed up and end up with multiple meanings.

But when I talk about antis specifically, because the topic is usually focused on them, I am talking about Loki/Sylvie antis and for clarification I don’t consider everyone who dislikes the ship an anti, in my head an anti is someone who is actively against the pairing.

For example people who will have ‘sylkis dni’ in their bios, who say the relationship should be dropped, they feel physically sick when Loki and Sylvie are on screen together, they harass sylki shippers, want Sylvie to be killed off, repeatedly insist Loki and Sylvie have no chemistry there are other things but I think this gives a general idea.

People I wouldn’t consider antis are people who might be indifferent or not like the pairing but they aren’t strongly against it, people who might have voiced their opinion for not liking the ship but don’t expect others to share their opinion, people who don’t feel the need to make others feel bad over shipping two fictional characters and things like that.

I hope this makes things clear but you can always come and ask me more about it if you have anymore questions, like I said, I know that other people will have different definitions but this is just how I personally use it and define it.
