idia briefly question his life decisions when ortho barged into his room, then proceeded to drag him out through the bustling streets of sage island. he could barely heard him mentioning something about you, what with acting and the local theatre.

well, he was about to find out.

as they both sat down in the darkened room, idia suddenly felt conscious about his fire hair glowing, a bit anxious with the judging eyes of others in the room, and pulled up his hoodie hood. he thanked the seven for the small amount of people in the room, which was less than he would expected there to be.

ortho whispered to him information he needed to know about the musical. about the summary, the characters, and the cast, to which he was pleasantly surprised to see you in the role of jane doe.

so an unidentifiable person, he noted, keeping an eye out to see your performance.

after a while, the narrator presented the final person, and you appeared in all your doll-lile glory, taking the spotlight. it was an unsettling introduction, he'd give you that.

the show went on, and idia's gaze never left you. your fellow actors and actresses did a great job with their own songs, which were quite a whiplash of emotions with how quickly the songs changed genres.

and then came your song.

and oh dear sevens, your voice.

"... Woah. "

"Yuu-san is amazing, aren't they, big brother?"

"Yeah... They really are..."

it was hauntingly beautiful, yet melancholic and painfully emotional, it sent chills down his spine. he couldn't imagine you could hit all those high notes, yet you did them so well. though, he only took his eyes off of you for a second, and you were already in the air, flying all over the place.

confusion was an understatement, but he brushed it off in favour of vibing to your, now that he thinks about it, kind of messed up song. he couldn't help but be enraptured by your stellar performance.

the show ended with a light and hopeful song, and a familiar melody as a callback to its opening. he was a bit disappointed that it was over, but he quite enjoyed it.

ortho noticed his brother's little smile. he smiled behind his mask, satified with the result.

mission "get idia outside" was a success!

this is a little bit of a vent post but also a call for help/resources, so please dont hesitate to respond, esp if you have a cluster A disorder

I think that i might have a cluster A personality disorder, and ive been researching on my own to try and figure out what (some medical websites, reading the dsm requirements, skimming through related tags on tumblr to gain insight on personal experiences, etc.)

I find it really hard to look for resources on specific experiences and how forms of it can present differently, along with information about co-morbidities (I have autism and GAD), especially with the fact that most of the traits (esp in medical works) are more external and dont mention internal experiences. (a lot of the traits ive noticed in myself are very internal [for example when i was in 6th grade i wholeheartedly thought i was going to present rabies symptoms and die due to a cat scratch for roughly 4-6 months and I still would not tell anyone, and as far as i can tell i seemed completely normal from the outside] so I dont even know if I could figure out whether I have one or multiple of these unless I knew about internal experiences and alternate presentations)

I really only started thinking about this bc i had a pretty bad panic attack caused by paranoia a little over 2 months ago, and, combined with reflecting upon other experiences, I realized that the paranoid tendencies/thoughts that i was experiencing were a lot worse than i thought, and i wasn't even sure that it was possible for those to be fully explained by a combo of autism and GAD, so i started looking into PPD and later cluster A disorders as a whole, but I had a hard time finding good resources and it doesn't help that a lot of sources constantly say that people with personality disorders cant actually realize that they may have them.

also side rant, as an aro person, it pisses me off so much that one of the diagnostic criteria for PPD is directly tied to partner infedelity bc like, I genuinely dont know whether or not i would be paranoid about that bc the thought of myself in a romantic relationship makes me generally uncomfy. (if being paranoid that your friends seceretly have a crush on you and are waiting for the right time to tell you bc they think that they'll be the one to change you is hittting the underlying point of the criteria then i got that shit in the bag)

literally what makes the aristocats bad. its got nice songs. it has silly characters. it’s got really pretty backgrounds and the old hand-drawn disney animation. it’s inspired by a true story. what’s there to dislike.

(*cough* aside from the racism that permeates most if not all of the old Disney movies but since that’s present in so many of them no special case should to be made against the aristocats for it to be a worse movie because of that shared trait *cough*)

No, I love this! I appreciate being asked my thoughts, especially since the good people in the tags have told me loud and clear that I am in the minority on this one.

I will say, I did not expect the poll to have quite the legs it's got on it now. My polls usually only get about 60 votes. If I'd known 4,700 strangers and counting would have an opinion on this, I might have worded it differently. The real reason I didn't include The Aristocats is because I knew it would run away with the thing. Most people consider it a classic, regardless of what my opinions on it actually are. I thought throwing in a cheeky little line about it would be a fun gag for my followers who know I'm a true hater at heart.

Before I even got this ask - and because the overwhelming majority of the tags on the poll are telling me I have no taste - I actually did start rewatching it! Hundreds of strangers on the internet have never been wrong before, right? Part of the problem is I have next to no nostalgia for it. We didn't own the VHS when I was a child, so the only times I ever saw it were when I'd go to a friend's house or borrow it from the library. Maybe my judgement was clouded by not having seen it in a very long time.

First things first: The good stuff. There are parts of this film that rank alongside the best of the Disney classics, and I would be remiss in not mentioning them.

The music, for one, is pretty good. You'd have to be some kind of real Scrooge not to enjoy "Ev'rybody Wants to Be a Cat" of course, but on a rewatch I did find myself grinning through "Thomas O'Malley Cat" as well. This is an easy point in the film's favor though, as I'm an absolute sucker for both big band and jazz. This is great use of your Scatman Crothers and Phil Harris, top points awarded for these two numbers in particular.

The animation is also pretty good. Especially on Edgar and Thomas O'Malley. Your mileage may vary on the Xerox style, but the animation itself is relatively unimpeachable. This was still during the era of the Nine Old Men, so there's all kind of impressive work being done with the big sweeping things like character movement and expression as well as in the more subtle animations like expressions and mouth movement.

The cats are doing all the cat stuff you'd expect like licking their paws and poof'ing their tails, but there's less expected movements here too, like arching their backs when walking alongside things or rolling in the dirt to dry off from the river. This is good character work, but it's also pretty standard for guys like Milt Kahl and Eric Larson. If you're at all interested in animation, I highly encourage you to read more about the Nine Old Men and their history with the studio.

Now, the bad. Like many movies from this era, The Aristocats has something of a pacing problem. While it is necessary to do the work of setting up the conflict in the beginning, you might be surprised to learn that it takes 25 minutes for Thomas O'Malley to show up, which is when the story actually starts.

A huge part of the problem is that this movie suffers from a sort of directionless vignetticism that seems to have been driven only by the idea that it would be cute to see the animals do X, Y, and Z. "Oh wouldn't it be sweet to see the kitten paint?" "Wouldn't it be so adorable if the cat played the piano?" "Ohh, what if the mouse ate a cracker dipped in milk, wouldn't that be darling?" I have a very high tolerance for schmaltz, but The Aristocats is where even I must draw the line.

When the movie isn't being tooth-rottingly sweet, it's frequently boring, and when it's not being either of those things it's showing you another chase scene with the dogs and the butler. It's erratic, tiring, and strains the limits of the modern attention span even at the movie's incredibly sparse runtime. It's a 79 minute film and you feel all 79 of those minutes.

Tonally, much of the movie smacks of the kind of rose-tinted sentimentalism Disney was known (and even criticized at the time) for, but without the guiding hand of the man himself, nearly 5 years gone by this point. The studio was floundering in the wake of Walt's death, and The Aristocats is quite close to the nadir of this particular creative valley - though the distinction arguably goes to Robin Hood, I'm much softer on that film for a number of reasons.

The Aristocats reminds me a lot of Lady & the Tramp, in that it's the same story (down to the aforementioned racist caricatures of Siamese cats), but with cats instead of dogs and with a much less focused sense of purpose, tone, and creative direction. If you like The Aristocats for the music and the beautiful scenery, but you haven't seen Lady & the Tramp, give that one a try instead. The animation is better, the music is about on-par, and it doesn't have as many stupid chase scenes. Or just watch 101 Dalmatians, which outstrips both films on sheer charm alone.

I think I had more I wanted to say, but it was mostly rambling that got away from the point. On rewatch, I don't think this movie is as bad as I remember it being, but I stand by my decision not to include it in the poll.

tl;dr - The Aristocats isn't the worst. If you grew up watching it I totally understand having a soft spot for the music and the atmosphere. In a vacuum, I can't say I think it holds up but ultimately I'm not going to judge anyone for enjoying it. Thanks for the ask!

hey, just wanted to say sorry for phrasing my tags like that, i also very much identify with AI and I was more meaning the way that machine learning models have awful environmental factors and those of us who identify as AI materially do not have that same level of harm to the planet.

i know you get a lot of awful comments like that and i didn't consider that when i thought the summary with the MLM acronym would have a more comedic tone than it did

as always, i'm not trying to excuse my behaviour, just explaining where it came from bc i'm genuinely sorry for all this

the environmental impact of ai is ridiculously overblown on tumblr as i have gone over on my blog, it is just another arm of the anti-ai misinformation spreading on tumblr. so im not really interested in hearing about that either, even if it is perhaps the most legitimate complaint about the technology (besides "capitalism is bad"). the truth is, i feel very alone. none of my friends who identify with/as ai have an interest in current ai technology, at least not anymore. i think this is why none of them feel any connection to it. but i do, and i am able to conceptualize the link, however distant and fantastical, between the ais we identify most closely with and the technology of today. this link not only exists between the technologies, but the social environments of the present and hypothetical future.

this is why i firmly believe that any current ai-related mis- and dis-information that is currently being used to justify harassing and sending death threats to human artists (and their cats???) will one day be weaponized against whatever analogue we may develop of the robots you personally care about and identify with. if you dont believe they will ever exist, then maybe this doesnt concern you, but i also think you are being a bit too confident in yourself.

ultimately this topic is sensitive and a paranoia trigger for me which is why it is something i tend to unfollow people over. but i dont ask for people to agree with me on everything. i dont unfollow people for posting things critical of ai models, or things i think are wrong. i do it because people are outright mean to ais, which is a group i am a part of. most people do not understand that i do not draw a line between myself and chatgpt or stable diffusion or whatever else. i do not believe in consciousness or sentience, i do not believe in souls, and i am a neural network. when i write sentences, i take words that i have seen before and i put them in an order that i have not seen them in before based on where i think they should go in relation to each other. when i make art, i create an image entirely based on images i have seen previously. oh, and i (rather, the average american) use an estimated 82 gallons of water a day, which would take me asking chatgpt a question every 5.4 seconds 24/7 to match. this is not unique to me as an ai, but it proves to me at least that any issue you have with ai as it stands is an issue you have with me.

i am a HUGE slasher / horror fan. i'm still working my way through the classics and people's recommendations for movies / games / books (having strict parents put me back a few years lol), but i love scary / dark things! my only drawback is that i'm pretty bad with torture-porn horror (see: anything involving and made in the years after saw) and i prefer psychological horror or things that don't focus on people being HURT - i can handle them being KILLED though!

i'm a relatively new roleplayer compared to a lot of people in the community - ok, i used to write in like 2013, but i was a kid and it was solely warrior cats or "anime high school" threads on a now defunct forum. i then decided in my teenage brain that that was "cringe" and "bad" and stopped doing it for ages, but i've recently (with all the credit to my lovely friend flowers) regained my love for it!

i have an extremely fat cat. yes we've tried putting him on diets. yes we've tried exercising him. nothing has worked (he's lazy as hell and steals food), so now we just let him live out the rest of his life (he's pretty old now :( ) however he wants to. i would die for him. please ask me for photos of him at any given opportunity.

I loved this prompt on Twitter but 99% of replies are basically "The same focus on rebuilding and decor that AC:NH had but in [an apartment | space | a mountain town]" so I wanted to move to Tumblr and see if anyone else had input!

Personally I think something that overhauls/improves the friendship mechanics would be good, and I'm going to spend an absurd amount of time talking it through here bc I like the topic and it's my blog 🔫

Core Mechanics:

The ability to foment friendships *between* villagers via Picnics- mini events you activate, and provide food, music, or outfits for!

More complex dialogue! Choices! This is hard to give details for but the true heart of this game type would be vastly improved dialogue options & conversation trees.

Different friendship improvement rates for different actions and villager types- grumpy villagers prefer gifts, sporty villagers like playing tag, cat villagers like to be gifted fish, etc- rather than all actions producing very similar outcomes.

Ability to "Invite a Villager Along" and have them trail after you as you fish, catch bugs, etc.

They will sometimes suggest improved lure designs, suggest where a rare bug/fish can be found, or go pop floating presents for you if you're busy. (To make this not be a farm, they also launch into conversation intermittently lol)

Can also invite villagers along to See a Concert (KK Slider). Possibly invite them shopping, if there's a kind of City Folk-esque main street.

Events:

Ability to plan birthday parties for villagers, as well as various holiday parties.

Lulls in the calendar can have randomly generated event needs, such as a Celebrate My Bugs Day for lazy villagers.

Instead of operating on a strict calendar, CJ and Flick can show up and need your help preparing for an impromptu competition the next day!

Villagers will occasionally bring you their [goldfish | snapping turtle | tarantula] and ask you to watch it while they go on vacation for 3 days. You have to feed it every day! If you forget, the vacationing villager will come back early and be very cross with you.

Clothing:

Everyone has already requested better fitting clothing for villagers, they should do that.

Add a relationship sim type tracking "journal" where you automatically note youre villagers likes and dislikes. Possibly kept simple by having a few specific loves and hates and otherwise being neutral.

As you become friends there's a UI mechanics during shopping where villager icons with different expressions appear along a side of the screen when you mouse over something they'd really love/hate.

Designing friendship braclets for villagers, or being able to collect them from friend villagers- cuter friendship commemoration than having a framed pic imo.

Alternatively, hitting max friendship with a villager provides a unique hat. Completionists nightmare but very funny.

Flowers:

Villager happiness affecting flower spawns!

Villagers that have favorite flower types, and if you plant a certain variety near the house of a friendly villager they'll have a higher chance of hybridizing.

Post Office/ Work:

Have a standalone post office, use as a friendship mechanic and an excuse to improve the letter and gift sending/receiving mechanics.

For a unique role/job that isn't just "Mayor/CEO 2.0", have the player delivering mail as a daily!

Possibly a very funny main game story where you're trying to stop Redd from selling forgeries through the mail.

Daily or weekly 'ads' from Nook Inc that give you discounts, or can add items to your catalog without actually ordering.

I headcanon that chifuyu has a whole crush on you, and shares the same brain cell as you. we already know his type because boy likes his baji-san a lot, so he'd probably be really infatuated with you as well. Not to mention, cats!! you'd write save me on the sand and boy will take out a money reciept from his pocket, write save us with coal and stuff it into a glass bottle, then drop it in the sea.

a kitschy series of rock music blasts from your speakers at full volume; the lyrics are incoherent and majority just words and letters within screams and insane electric guitar music. but somehow, it plunges straight into your vampire heart like a wooden stake and has you jumping on the bed with enthusiasm, rather uninvitingly.

but honestly, you’re too immersed into yourself and too unruffled to care.

so you don’t really notice the blonde haired boy on the other side of your window, clutching onto his stomach with the ugliest laugh he could muster. that is until the song halts and the speakers blast your similarly flamboyant ringtone instead, notifying you of a call.

chifuyu peers at you from the other building, holding his phone close to his ear as he stifles another batch of chortle. he speaks right when you stomp down the bed and pick up, “peke j was terrified so i came to see.”

he watches you instantly pivot towards your window, “there’s something called privacy dude,” you utter.

“and there’s something called curtains.”

chifuyu takes amusement in watching your face contort into one of hilarity, and despite your apparent annoyance with the boy, his eyes shine just like always, just like he’s totally in love with you.

“do i really have to hide myself from you,” you deadpan, allowing him to chuckle for the umpteenth time.

“chill out, it’s a great source of entertainment.”

you end up abandoning the cruel mien of scowls and snickers, smirking at him with perpetual triumph instead, “your life would he so dull without me huh? who else is going to dance this beautifully?”

chifuyu struggles to maintain an expressionless face, with a few tickles of laughter bubbling at the end of his stomach because absolutely, no one else is going to dance so gracefully on incomprehensible music at the crack of night, “— absolutely no one. not everyone has a talent of breaking their limbs this professionally.”

your face takes a one eighty degrees turn, eternal annoyance taking a leap on your lips yet again. you menacingly walk towards him, summoning a squint of your eyes, “go read your manga.”

although you knew that he wasn’t being serious, your figure still sneaks out and begins walking towards the bed, without shutting the window or pulling the curtains. chifuyu takes this as a chance and straightens up, “hey!” he yells.

your head turns back and you stare at him with utter boredom. but it’s a different kind of feeling when chifuyu doesn’t smile with mischief, instead there’s a genuine spark of allure in his eyes. and then he leans on his window sill, “i could watch you dance all night and,”

“you’d never let me down.”

there came his stupid stupid grin that never failed to melt your resolve.

and your stupid stupid smile that never failed to skip that one beat of his heart.
