there's something about the first child that makes them doomed from the start. you're born as something more than yourself. you're born with a permanent weight on your shoulders. if you learn to carry the weight then there's more. but if you put the weight down you will forever be called out for your bad posture.

fwiw i've been in the fandom for a long time and took tim's comments the same way you have.

to me it sounds like he was temporarily influenced to keep them apart as close friends to avoid any hint of potential queerbaiting accusations and it caused him to veer off course re: how he would naturally write their story as the very close friends (family, really) that they always have been. and now he sees how that was a mistake and is going to write them their (wonderfully close) platonic friendship the way he always intended, potential looney queerbaiting accusations be damned.

i guess caveat that i'm not a hardcore buddie shipper and don't read something into every work/touch/glance/action between them so perhaps someone with different goggles on will have other examples that could sway you but yeah, i agree with your read on the situation 100%.

it's a relief there are people with more insight into how things work around here who share my view on this. i was afraid maybe i missed some quotes that suggested otherwise, but i'm fairly certain now that is not the case and people are just reading too much into it as usual.

personally, i kind of shipped buddie through s2, but once s3 rolled in, i lost the vision. i think throughout the rest of the seasons, the writers did a pretty good job highlighting how platonic their relationship actually is. i know people in this fandom seem to disagree with this, so i was afraid maybe i don't see the obvious clues that everyone is giving because, for some reason, i developed some kind of aversion to the idea of buddie being involved romantically, and i'm just biased. but when rational buddie shippers interpret such comments the same way i do, it's actually really comforting.

i'm still baffled by how many people are convinced tim, oliver, and ryan are just straight-up lying when they say buddie is not in the works right now. but i guess people cope in their own ways. it's just sad they present it as a fact, not a speculation, and as a result, spread misinformation everywhere. i truly believe they are just baiting themselves at this point. saying tim wants buddie to end up together because he was once afraid of queerbaiting accusations is such a wild take, i just have to laugh.

i want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart who's ever tagged me in their posts! i can't put it into words how grateful i am for having such talented, sweet people around me that wanted to share their beautiful creations with me. i cherish them all and i hope yapping in my tags conveyed that. a/n: i didn't set out to make this angsty but alas, here we are. merry christmas?

It’s so easy to lose track of time on the train. The seasons all look the same these days, covered in snow and ice that have lasted for so long that every memory of colorful fall leaves and spring blossoms has been reduced to old photographs and moving pictures, too beautiful and alien to ever actually have happened somewhere out there on that cold, frozen, unmoving ground.

But it’s "December" again, or so Curtis is told by Gilliam and some of the other elders who still observe such things, and one day he passes through the washing station of the tail end and hears you singing.

It makes him stop in his tacks even as the train rattles onward, as it always does, and reach for one of the handrails overhead; you have your sleeves tucked up to rhythmically scrub a piece of cloth over the washboard to accompany your merry little tune as some of the children listen on with wide eyes, enraptured, hanging onto every word.

You hold a note a little longer right as you take a look around and see him standing there, too, like he’s been hypnotized by the sound of your voice, and you take a breath and every child around you joins you in a chorus you must’ve just taught them, and an odd wave of nostalgia hits Curtis for things he’s long thought lost to time and ice; warm hands and intricately wrapped presents and food that didn’t taste like garbage. It’s there in that little piece of music and in the sad tilt of your smile when you meet his gaze again, and somehow he knows that the same swirl of emotions is coursing through you, too.

He waits until the very last note no longer vibrates through his bloodstream, and even though his mouth falls open, he doesn’t know what to say to you at all; only that for the first time in a long while, he feels warm inside.
