Would you ever expand upon your joker junior thoughts more? I think that was such a well written idea and would love to hear what else you think about it
Oh my god yes. 100000% YES!
That post before was more of an idea vomit, didn’t cover all of what I thought, so I’m happy to hear someone wants to hear more.
So, JJ’s always been a tough convo for Tim. Obviously. But it’s not just because of how traumatizing the Joker can be, or about the shocks and psychological torture. It also reminds him of a grim time in his life. With Bruce still going through the motions post-Jason’s death, and Dick frequently spending all his time in Bludhaven, he hadn’t been watched much. Save for Babs, ofc.
That’s actually why they’re so close. She’s much more emotionally competent thanks to her dad, lol.
JJ wasn’t only a big thing for Tim, but for Gotham too. In a place like this, it wasn’t hard for whispers from the Joker’s men to travel to civilians and cops. Everyone knew why Robin was nowhere to be seen. Everyone knew why Batgirl looked the way she did, agitated and worried. Everyone knew why the cops searched that same warehouse over and over, never allowing anyone inside.
Which was also why no one was happy to see Nightwing, very obviously the first Robin, return after yet another sabbatical in Bludhaven. Of course, that stopped a little after everyone collectively realized that, oh crap, he doesn’t even know!
This begins a collective effort by the more clear-minded people of Gotham to NOT disclose anything JJ related. There has to be a reason, right? No way were they going to force Robin #3 to disclose anything he didn’t wait to. It didn’t hurt that a year or two later, a mysterious figure named Oracle began effectively making every news article or picture related to JJ disappear.
Everyone holds their breaths for the next few months. What if what happened to the second Robin happened to him? What if he was too crippled to go back out?
As the Batfamily grows bigger, it becomes way clearer that Robin #3 hasn’t said a WORD. Not even after they grow closer, when the screaming and murder attempts and arguments cease. He doesn’t say a word, so no one else does either.
Tim goes to great lengths to medicate himself against any variant of Joker venom or gas. The familiar smells just… bring things back to the surface.
He tries not to act like Jason whenever the Joker gets out of Arkham. It’s already hard for everyone to hold him back from killing the monster. Jason doesn’t need some second-rate copy of his trauma trying to get sympathy. Unlike Jason, he didn’t die. He didn’t come back differently, or lose footing on his life, his job, whatever.
It would just be better if Tim acted as aloof and concentrated as he always did. Not make a big scene, and follow Batman’s orders to a T. No need to worry anyone.
Honestly, the only reason no one notices the literal war going on in this boy’s head is because he doesn’t want to cause a scene.
Oh, and if you’re wondering what he says when one of the bats finds him the next night, still avoiding them…
Yeah, he full on denies EVERYTHING. Looks whoever it is, Jason, Steph, Dick, straight in the eye and says that what they saw was fake. Edited. Something to threaten Bruce with years ago. Tim just ran because…because…Anyway, he’s fine. Don’t worry about Tim Drake. He’s fine.
Babs groans over the comms when everyone hounds on her to tell them everything. Like hell is she gonna tell them a single thing until she has Tim’s full permission.

Bruce Wayne would be fricked for a while if Diddy was in his world and got caught.
I saw a video on tiktok (i just use to watch videos) and it made me laugh because it posed the question of what if Diddy or that island guy (don't want to say his name) were in the DC world and how Bruce Wayne as like a crazy rich play boy would be kind of screwed in terms of people questioning what the guy who disappears at parties, has taken in like three adopted kids, had a kid with a random woman, the second son fucking dying (and possibly being confirmed alive or has to remain in hiding), adopted one girl and took in a black boy and it's like we as readers know he's a good dude, but could you imagine that? Heck he might have people argue he's not that type of guy, but then have people go "I don't know Lex was attending those parties." And then someone goes "Yeah, but he's an actual bad guy!"
Heck a picture of Bruce shaking hands with Diddy under the assumption he was a good guy years before everything was revealed or Bruce was aware, but he knew the power Diddy had. Also the guy asked "Why did Dick Grayson just leave and move to Bludhaven?" And I love that lol because again we know why he left. It was a mix of rebellion and wanting to be his own hero, but... the gotham people don't know that.
Now Bruce has to remain quiet as people question how he's adopted one orphan, one kid who had a drug addicted mother and father and again died (and there was a CPS comic storyline after Jason died mind you), one who's parents died later in life and then Damian... is related to Ra's! (which I'm not sure if the world knows).
He's fighting for his life, but what he hates the most in this situation? The people he saw on twitter and defending him in the sense of the possibility he was involved, the creep fangirls, the strange homophobic and accusations of being a diddler. Dude would be pissed, like I'd feel so bad for him lol. So bad to the point I imagine after Jason Todd has a good laugh, he has to defend freaking Bruce and argue while he is a lot of things, he's not attend parties called the freak off (or whatever they were called) or going to islands to do those crimes when in reality Batman had gone there... TO BEAT THE CREEPS ASSES!
Bruce is in his office one day like, "I'm rich, but I'm not a monster. God damn it I send money to help people suffering in war torn countries, I'm a good man!" Gotta be comforted by Selina and Alfred. Honestly I did get annoyed when people in our world made fun of the whole Bruce adopted a young child, because yes at first it's odd, but then you realize he took in a kid who watched his parents die, horribly. That shit is sad to witness and Bruce went through the same thing. Same with Jason or keeping Tim when Tim lost his parents. It shows his kind side. Yes, it's odd he made them robins, but like... a sidekick is awesome to have. lol
That's my ramblings for the day.

recently got into the Batman comics bc I saw a tiktok edit but I’ve literally missed out on so much comic stuff that I only know a lot about Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, and Damian Wayne. Well, Gotham War happened and I thought ‘I’ll just read it and catch up at the same time’
Terrible idea
I could NOT relate to the people who were debating about it whether or not ‘x would do this’ or ‘this would never really happen’
Anyways if anybody can tell me something quick/light I can read that’s easily accessible online to understand Steph, Tim, Cass, Duke, and the whole Batfam better let me know bc I am desperate lol

How I feel about this character: have you seen my blog lately. It's practically a shrine to him lol. I'm trapped in a feedback loop: the more I think about him, the more dc-related stories I seek, and the more dc-related stories I seek, the more I tie things back to my love for him. I also think about him when watching other shows xD
All the people I ship romantically with this character: Mia, because I love a good meet-ugly and a birds-of-a-feather ship. Eddie, because their childhood penpals still fond of each other backstory is sweet, and has the potential to turn (even more) tragic in the future. Roy, but in their new earth versions at a very specific moment where they give me all the brainworms. Kara, because their interactions were something I actually found enjoyable in the nu52, so why not try to build something in my favourite timeline instead. Kate Spencer/Manhunter, because sometimes you want a MILF ship that'll cure Jason of some issues while giving him new ones. Barbara, because I thought their plots in WFA were actually pretty interesting and again, why not take things to my favourite playground. Lately Tim, because it's an interesting dynamic AND its impact and ripple effects would be something else. And I'm open to a few others I've seen around or have crossed my mind Because (Donna+Kyle, Connor Hawke, Grant Emerson...).
My non-romantic OTP for this character: Bruuuuuuuce. In an terrible tragic way. And Dick! In a not-as-terrible but still heartrending way lol. AND TALIA. They should be best friends :(. Also Sasha!!
My unpopular opinion about this character: so fucking many I could be here all day asdfasñldkfjasf. Anyway, I think he doesn't smoke post resurrection and that he would've pursued a career in the stem/health area (I plan to write some of those!).
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: no reboot. Actual development. Becoming close, life-long friends with Talia. Getting to enjoy a world post-Joker's death. Barring that, something interesting actually happening with his post-gotham war brainwashing plot... but alas.

"dick finding out that not only Jason isn't cured but bruce has been taking advantage of him [...] Telling him that if he sleeps with him he'll undo what he did" wow thanks Best Angel I now have a new favourite horror trope (though I now I need to make up in my head a self-indulgent not that canon accurate "batfam without the bat" fix-it to cope and comfort me after you hurt my feelings lol you know me.) your ideas are so twisted and evil and I mean that in the best way possible have you considered world domination?
XDDD the day that I stop procrastinating, I will, in fact, put my world domination plans into motion :)
Gotham War did something to my brain, and the way DC writes Rebirth Jason (isolated, with negative self-esteem, suicidal (not exclusive to Rebirth!Jason)) is just prime material for figuratively putting Jason in a blender to produce whump and angst. I don't make the rules. Not one pure idea related to Gotham War emerged from my brain 🫣🫣
It's not my fault that my post Gotham war ideas are evil 😭
I really wanted to write something more hurt/comfort-y with some Dick and Jason bonding, but the truth is that I suck at writing comfort 😔😔
Thank you for the ask 🖤🖤

I'm that anon you just answered, the one who is now more able to see dami as an adult, and I actually have more to say now that you've answered my question. If I wanna say more in the future I suppose I can identify myself with an emoji, let's go with ✨ for now I think
There is a thing in 'canon' where characters ages will get swapped around for random reasons, there are sets of characters (batfam, Superfan for example) where the age differences stay generally the same in relation to the others in the set (Jason is Abt 3 years older than Tim, dick was adopted at 9 was Bruce was 26-28, etc, although characters like Babs can change more freely depending on the iteration). One of these age changes that actually feels similar to damikon is damirae (Damian and Raven for clarity sake). I'm specifically thinking of the apokalypse war movie, they were the same age, and became a couple despite raven typically being a similar age or even older than dick. And in the show Gotham, Harvey dent is the same age as Gordon, possibly older.
So really, the age fuckery is plenty in line with what DC does lol
cool, glad to hear more input from you! :D
lol i *still* have beef with dc for permanently aging barbara down. now people look at you like you're a freak for shipping classic brubabs 😭 SHE WAS GROWN!!! but whatever. that's a rant for another day.
ahhh damirae, a classic... i was so surprised that they were paired together, but it's kind of the perfect ship. like oh, yeah, they would mesh together amazingly wouldn't they? heh. no wonder they made that happen. i assume they just made raven younger because they wanted to tell the story about her father, and she struggles with that the most when she's younger instead of when she's older.
i forget how big damian and kon's age gap is in canon, since kon had time where he wasn't aging, and he and tim are both still miraculously teenaged by the time damian comes around, which makes so sense, but hey... whatever man! so, i mean, i do keep an age gap in there, but it may or may not be bigger or smaller than new earth canon. i don't know about rebirth/post-rebirth ages because i don't care :P

I've been reading your posts about Jason and it's got me thinking about how the writers wanted Dick killing Joker to stick and had to change it last minute. I wonder if in universe if dick killing joker stuck and Jason came back, what would he do? All those issues he has in his brain and his warped morality isn't going to disappear just because Jokerwas killed, so what would his plans be and how would he justify it? Sorry for rambling in your inbox lol
Hmmm we'll i think that if dick killed joker, it wouldn't have solved jason's main complaint, which is that Bruce didn't kill Joker.
If Jason just wanted Joker dead, he could've killed him when he had him tied up and helpless in UTRH. But he didn't, because his main thing was not that he wanted Joker dead, it was that Joker killing him should have been enough to make Bruce kill him.
In that way, the way that UTRH starts might not actually change at all. Jason is trying to control crime in gotham through intimidation and murder while establishing himself as a crime lord. in the animated movie, his motive to targeting black mask was tied to getting joker out so that he could get bruce to kill him, but in the comics, targeting black mask was not related to joker at all. so I think that wouldn't have to change.
He might find someone else he views as similar to joker and try to get Bruce to kill that guy. However, that would miss the very personal connection in that his main gripe with the joker in specific was personal. It could be narratively interesting if he projected the issues he has with his own death to steph's death tried to get bruce to kill black mask, but also given that he's a much more popular character than steph it'd be easy to see fandom making her death more about jason than about steph herself if that happened*. id only really support that if when steph gets back, she gets to have a voice in the story (and can mention jason being full of shit, like he didn't really care about her, he cared about himself and viewed her as an avatar for his own issues)
*like i already have seen some of this, with people insisting jason must have gone after black mask b/c he killed a robin, and thats why he didn't go after other crime lords... but in post war-games gotham, black mask is the crime lord of gotham from what I remember correctly. he consolidated his power and is the biggest fish out there. and also you know. jason mentions steph's death not once in all of his plots and angst.
WRT his brain issues... he's traumatized, but no more so than many of the other bats. I don't cast his brain issues as the reason for his actions.

saw the poll about least liked Batfam but decided to make my own post.
Dick Grayson was the first robin. After learning more about him the less I know why he exists. He’s childish and funny. Probably so Batman wasn’t lonely but couldn’t influence Batman in any way. But then he stopped being that so idk. Batman copycat? But slightly likable but only because his friends make him better.
Jason Todd was hated on for being a kid so he got all these “unlikable” qualities (poverty, drug addiction) and became an unlikable person. He’s alright.
Tim Drake was made to be relatable to a certain audience and it shows. He only perpetuates the Batman industry that should’ve ended years ago.
Damian was created to perpetuate the bloodline to cater to nepotism. But i think they chose Talia so Batman could take him away from her. But it backfired. If we focus on caring about Talia we can expand the conversation about a non white woman again.
Barbara Gordon was created to be a FUCKING love interest. Then to cater to feminists but (mostly) the only the way sexists know how to. But after getting fridged; A wonderful writer made her into an advocate for disabled (handicap). Intersectionality got more supporters to care about her, which is deserved. (Sidenote: Babs reminds me of my very cool competent older sister. So she also unerves me but like in a good way if I wasn’t a younger sib)
Duke Thomas is pretty relatable for a black teen; and he also joined a movement for children taking back their rights (self defense). And introduced the WAR characters which is nice to focus on minority stories again.
Cass is THE asian american diaspora. And her rewritten stereotypes is such a cool way to humanize caricatures AMAZING.
Stephanie Brown was a love interest. Taken down to boost up Tim. Too impulsive to be Robin and left out of stories. Those are the bad stuff. The good stuff is that she’s like Jason ( positive). Stands up against her abusive father. Still sorta close with her mother. Cass’s friend. Okay i lied. There’s one more bad thing about Steph. She’s also like Jason (negative). (And it makes me scared to talk about it because i think there’s some kind of internet thingy about r*df*ms which I don’t agree with because of it’s white superiority centric stuff 😓).
So it’s between Dick, Tim, Steph, and Jason. Downsizing to Tim, Steph and Jason because Dick and the Teen Titans are great. Downsizing to Steph and Jason because Tim came out as bisexual which is ironic but also serves the same reason why Kate was retconned to be lesbian, because it’s a fuck you to the homophobes from the Batman controversies of the past :)
I genuinely believe Steph and Jason could be better, but it’s tough. It’s really tough. I’m downsizing to just Steph because Jason’s relationship with Bizzaro was sweet, and he could have friends like with Rose and Artemis (is she allowed to use that name? Lol) and sorta is already.
Steph isn’t really- i mean, idk. She doesn’t pull in new characters or dynamics, she doesn’t have a narrative relating to Gotham besides her resolved daddy issues which were resolved. The issue could be solved if she joined her own team? Like why is she so lonely bro. She could easily be a good character.
Coming back around to say Dick becoming the new Batman copycat or just whatever self insert writers wanna say, it’s a huge issue. Honestly, the amount of vagueness he is, is annoying. Genuinely goes back to the root core issue, Batman. Dick is barely his own person. All the changes isn’t even because of him anymore. He was taken away from his own backstory just to be for Batman. How dehumanizing is that? He’s just your spokes person supporter cheerleader for whatever you wanna say, and the DC writers sure had a lot of shit to say.
It’s tough. In conclusion, I gotta stop interacting with Batman man. I only joined because of the rouges honestly, but I get it with child rights so of course I’d get to know the batfam, but everything about the batfam fandom has really irritated me. No one here seems to care about children which is ironic
I guess it’s a tie between Dick Tim Jason Steph. Or Dick Tim. They’re boring.

Probably because:
1) DC live action series usually fail to garner enough attention; worse, Doom Patrol is niche compared to Flash or Batman-related series (which is like ... most series–Gotham, Pennyworth, even Titans)
2) It was DCU that holds it before HBO/Max bought them and I guess there was never much promoting either from DC itself and HBO/Max.
3) Nobody really knows Doom Patrol, the comic, unless you're a diehard DC fan. (Which makes a lot of sense that you get Umbrella Academy vibes from Doom Patrol, lol. Gerard Way did one of the runs for Doom Patrol comic in 2016.)
4) People who are obsessed with the cast but unfamiliar with DC are the ones who would bother trying to watch it. (Two and a Half Men fans would remember April Bowlby, Orange is the New Black would remember Diane Guerrero, Chuck and White Collar remember Matt Bomer, and most people already know Brendan Fraser and Timothy Dalton)
5) Some people became bored early with the episodes containing backstories of each character and just failed to enjoy the flow, thus dropping it.
6) I personally followed Doom Patrol when their season 2 had recently finished airing because I'm obsessed with Clint Mansell, the music composer for Doom Patrol along with Kevin Kiner (Star Wars Disney+ series). I love the music so much that I compiled all of the tracks from every season into one whole playlist on Spotify.
So, yeah, most people who watched Doom Patrol probably have been following someone's work (the directors, the producers, the composers, the costume designers, etc) or an actual ride-or-die DC fan.
And then of course the people who follow the genre "superhero-antihero" with wacky vibes.
OK, why the hell was I not aware of Doom Patrol until like literally 2 days ago??
I'm on episode 7 now and it's so good???
The general premise is quite familiar to any lover of superhero stuff. Basically due to some circumstances several people somehow attain unusual powers and are gathered in the huge-ass house (the energy bills must be insane) by a mysterious Chief. And then weird shit starts happening.
I think in regards to general set-up it's a bit similar to Umbrella Academy, but in smaller details and characterizations it's a completely different thing.
The characters? - They are actually good people. Flawed, yeah, definitely, some of them did pretty messed up stuff in the past, but they're constantly trying to do better, be better. Deeply human, despite their supernatural abilities. I know that complete irredeemable assholes are quite popular with the public nowadays, but for me personally I like characters that have kindness in them, someone I could actually root for, and with at least some semblance of a moral compass.
The dynamic? Great! Everyone there is with their distinct quirks and loads of trauma, somehow culminating into a messed up but highly entertaining to watch found family. Also, at least for now - no romance within the group! Yey! Praise the gods, honestly, because you've no idea how annoyed I would be otherwise (a lot of media is ruined forever by adding a completely unnecessary romance subplots imo. Hollywood can't grasp the concept of love like 99% of the time). But with the way it's going and what kind of dynamic people there have with each other, any romance between them seems highly unlikely.
Humor? Oh yes! I'm too lazy to look for specific quotes, but because the characters are so different from each other, from their personalities and experiences to time periods, their interactions and reactions to the same events are hilarious.
The meta from The Narrator aka Mr Nobody is also top tear. I quite like meta things in media in general, and it's not easy to do it well, but here it's executed just right. The interesting thing about this running commentary on the events happening is that despite the seemingly omniscient perspective it's clear that The Narrator is biased and you can't really take his every word and opinion as absolute reality.
Also, one thing that I personally appreciate - even though there is a fair amount of graphic violence and gore, it's actually manageable and not crossing the "violence just for the shock value" line. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy some on-screen dismemberment every once in a while, but not when it starts to get gross. No way near the level of the Boys (please don't kill me, I like their memes).
Overall, this particular mix of scifi and magic, tragedy, comedy, heartfelt moments and good plot managed to resonate with my brain's wavelength. So here we go. Enjoy
My favorite flavor of absolute bonkers happening all the time

do you have any dc fic recs?
a few! mostly batfam related at present
and flings an oath, but says no more / this is a little canon divergence thing where war games doesn’t happen and steph doesn’t die, instead it’s more her coming into her role as a well deserved accomplice to bruce and the fam. i think half of the bat boys are evil tho but that’s a minor detail and the premise overall is fun
give and take / this is a really sweet and clever batcat fic that i think paints their dynamic and banter as vigilantes versus as normal people so well like the humor of it all is divine and it’s fun to see bruce manage to be charming and awkward at the same time
a different type of worldview / a wally centric fic about how being a father both impacts and evolves his perspective on heroism. it’s subtle but touching and i think my favorite part of it is the interspersed text convos between wally and linda where they go bonkers over their beautiful speed demon children
some days / a short introspective fic from damian’s perspective wherein he compares gotham and his old life on the island and realizes that there’s parts of his childhood that weren’t all that bad (i think it’s a bit of a fix-it attempt in that sense)
don’t take the money / this is a canon divergence au meta thing that operates off of the versions of bruce, talia, and harvey that exist within the btas canon and makes their lives intersect in very interesting ways. it’s hard to explain but i love the atmosphere and melancholy of it all like it’s a nice noir piece i think
last word wisdom better get some even too late / a take on jason’s resurrection in vein of the antigone myth and anne carson’s take on it via her infamous work antigonick. the piece is written like a stage play of sorts esp towards the end and i just think it’s a nice representation of what the moral grays and ambiguities of his character should have reflected had they been written by someone. . . smarter lol
make monsters of men / lost days canon divergence where jason does in fact kill the joker. i enjoyed a lot of the wordplay
where do your roots begin (and where do your roots end) / fic that allows a little more humanization of the talia that raises damian and asks some questions about what it means to deserve, and what damian’s two legacies entail for him in the future
dick’s in peril, jason saves him, and then the games begin / fic written by my beloved doaa that explores a scenario wherein jason meets dick as robin when the latter is injured on a mission, and then figures out robin is dick grayson thereafter. some of the exposition really goes for the jugular and makes me weepy
serious / bruce lands himself in a pickle and ends up being truth serumed. talia saves him. they banter. it’s a run of the mill thing for them and that’s what makes it all the more romantic. i just love their easy dialogue with each other and how bruce is almost. . . boyish with her. hopeful. not as rough around the edges
all the roofs of uncertainty / ok. listen. i know most people hate the version of dick who calls jason “little wing” and like i Truly get it and do think it’s a bit of a fantasy created by the batfam agenda in comics, but. this fic gets so meta and it navigates so many interesting conversations through jason when dick ends up in a coma and the former is meeting all of these people cycling in and out of the hospital ward so i just. love it a lot like it’s a labor of love yknow

So (not-so) quick thing... Scarecrow.
Obviously, Crane developed his fear toxin as a way to study fear and its effects on the psyche. He can do this because he's both a master biochemist and an accomplished psychiatrist. In most canons, he's obsessed with using fear to control people, and takes sadistic pleasure in watching people loose their minds while high on his drug.
HOWEVER.
I find this motivation boring as sin. Wow, you use fear to make people do what you want? And you don't even get cool superpowers and a shiny ring (except when he did but that's for another day), you're just some mad scientist with a hard-on for watching people be miserable? Damn, bro, where I seen that before...
*side-eyeing 80% of DC villains, who are mad scientists with a hard-on for watching people be miserable*
Not to say that I find Crane uninteresting, far from it! As with all the Gotham Rogues, he's absolutely committed to The Aesthetic. His motto is clearly "Every day is Halloween," and I completely agree. He's got a relatable backstory (for me at least, whaddup fellow burnout gifted kids with religious trauma?), and uses his villainy as an unhealthy coping mechanism to deal with his trauma (which is the one part of his motivation that is actually interesting to me). Also, I love that while he's extremely academically talented, he relies on his social intelligence far more to carry out his agenda, even though he's very much on the "I hate people please go away" side of things. It's terribly interesting to me when these aspects of his personality work into each other and create a relatable yet threatening villain.
But far too often, he's just written as a one-note sadist whose only job is to go "HAHA DANCE FOR ME PLEBES FOR I AM THE MASTER OF FEAR" while Batman swoops in, beats him up, and saves the day.
Or, even worse, he's given the Modern Riddler treatment of "Lol look at this nerd. He wants to fight the Bat but can't even throw a punch! He's gotta hide behind his gas to win, but Batman's a badass so he can just magically get over it and knock him on his ass cause in reality, he's the one who's scared."
That stuff's just bullshit, y'know? Sure, I'm all for villains pathetically cowering for their lives and all, that's some gud shit, but there comes a point where it's EVERY SINGLE STORY Crane's written in. He has so much potential to be fun, relatable, philosophical and interesting, but in order to do that, writers would have to actually think more about WHY he does what he does, outside of research and sadism. Oh, and they'd have to take their focus off the Clown Prince of Cash and admit that he stole a bunch of Crane's shtick.
Hell, you could even give him a "paved with good intentions" type motivation. Like, maybe he developed fear toxin as a kind of exposure therapy to help people overcome their trauma by experiencing it passively, but because Gotham Sux (TM), he couldn't get the funding and/or the approval from official channels for it because "hallucinogens bad" (reflecting real-world psychiactrics discourse today, as hallucinogens have been proven to help those with anxiety, PTSD, depression, and other related illnesses, but because War On Drugs, most people think all of 'em are dangerous and deadly). So, he turned to crime, using the toxin itself to get what he needs to continue his work. But that's a slippery slope, and before he knows it he's cast as a villain and thrown into Arkham with all the people he was trying to help, forever branded a scary freak the world would be better off without.
All because he tried to help.
Sure, it's cliche as sin, and I'm sure I could find hundreds of fan works describing this exact scenario, but for real... Isn't that way more interesting than "lol he's just a sadist with a god complex?" I like to think so, at least.
Idk man I just really hate it when a side character's potential is absolutely smothered in favor of the main character's, especially in the case of Batman. Like, the most interesting thing about Batman is the villains he fights, and half the time the interesting parts of those villains are funneled into Big Clown. The other half, they're sacrificed altogether because gods forbid Batman be vulnerable or admit that his villains might actually... *gasp*... have a point.
To see the amazing potential of a character like Jonathan Crane be absolutely tossed aside makes my blood boil.
Truly, we live in the darkest timeline.

I keep seeing that Demetri x Eli tweet that was liked by one of the producers pop up as hope-giving and it does like the exact opposite for me. I feel like something like this would be top secret and writers wouldn't hint that way if it were true.
But I also really want it to be true. So I'm also trying to have hope. But not too much.
It's strange - I pretty much never 'ship' anything canon or care that my ships aren't canon. Like, I'll support a canon couple while watching the show/playing the game, but I won't go read or write fic about them. I generally cannot relate to 'shipping wars' where people who ship different stuff like fight about it.
But I really want Demetri and Eli to be canon. I think the last time I actually wanted something I ship to be canon it was 'Nygmobblepot' (Ed x Oswald) from Gotham. And I was a BIG Gobblepot (Jim x Oswald) shipper, but I knew that was impossible and for a while it really felt like Ed and Oz weren't.
... lol, Ed is also a lanky know it all and Oz is also a bird who turned vicious because people looked down on him.
ANYWAYS. I have hope for Demetri and Hawk/Eli, and it feels almost dangerous. So I'm trying not to let myself take any 'evidence' on social media too seriously. There was SO MUCH perceived evidence for Nygmobblepot on social media.

16 & 8 for the writer thing ❤️
8. Which character(s) do you find easiest to write?
Harry is the obvious choice - but more specifically, I think I find it easier to write characters that have some kind of trauma in the past - not because I can relate, because I can’t - but because I find the exploration of their thoughts and emotions fascinating, so I tend to put a lot of effort into getting them right, and over time it has gotten easier for me to map out things like reactions. Almost all of my characters in my original stories have something in their past that weighs heavily on their soul.
16. Any guilty pleasure trope(s)?
Hmm. Idk? I’ve read a lot of weird stuff over the years 😂. I don’t feel guilt about reading things anymore lol. I suppose A/B/O and all the involved elements of those stories. I do like de-ageing stories when it’s handled well. I’ve read a few interesting pornstar AUs as well. I’m all over the place tbh.
34. Copy and paste an excerpt you’re particularly fond of.
Unconscious and maskless, he looked like any other young man. His hair was longer than she would have thought, mussed and falling around his face in dark waves. Ignoring the black paint he had smeared around his eyes, Crane somehow managed to look innocuous; just another survivor of this war-torn Gotham.
He looked nothing like Jerome. Nothing like Jeremiah. And Bryce didn’t know what she’d been expecting but it wasn’t this.
Clenching her jaw, she pushed those – damning, dangerous, unwanted – thoughts to the corner of her mind and tentatively brought her hands to Crane’s head. She wound her finger through his soft hair, searching for any injuries she might have missed in the darkness. His head lolled forward as she felt around, chin coming to rest on his chest, his forehead almost touching her shoulder they were that close.
She brushed over a bump at the back of his skull and Crane twitched. He let out a low, rasping noise, leaning away from her questing fingers and pressing into her shoulder – and Bryce froze.
Crane shifted himself, his legs pulling closer, and they might have unbalanced her from her precarious perch if there was any intent behind his movements. But Crane settled almost immediately, the aborted jerks of his limbs fading into nothing as he slumped more into her, face pressing hard into the thick padding of her jacket.
After a few tense moments, Crane started to pull away and Bryce released the breath she had been holding. His eyes were half-lidded and dazed, but even with the poor lighting she could see that they were a bright blue.
Crane stared at her, a slight frown creasing his brow, confused and disorientated. But as the seconds stretched on, Bryce could see the way those eyes seemed to sharpen, awareness crackling to life in them. Again, Crane’s body shifted, but this time there was a purpose to it – testing his limits, pushing the boundaries – and the chains of the handcuffs chimed merrily in the heavy silence between them.
Crane’s tongue darted out across his bottom lip, a quick flash of pink that left a faint shimmer behind, and when he spoke his voice was hoarse. “Well, can’t say I’ve ever woken up like this before.” He dropped back against the wall, raising his hands pointedly, and his smile was unexpected and crooked. “Looks like you got me. I have to say, baby, you’re an upgrade from the usual.”

based on that fix-it post. The Leverage Crew as the crossover fandom they would fix
Okay sooooo I actually read a LOT of those crossover fics so I’m going to be doing this one based on my favorite fics for each character
Thus
Eliot - Supernatural. I’ve read quite a few fics where he’s crossed paths with the Winchesters in the past and more or less adopted a “I ain’t seen nothin’“ attitude towards anything vaguely Weird, until Leverage gets hired for a case and it turns out that there’s Weirdness afoot, and he either calls them or realizes they’re already involved from another angle. He’s also a popular slashship with Dean, and one of the few that I think actually works? Although it definitely falls under the, “You think the “opposites attract” trope is highly overrated” umbrella, lol. I think that he works as a good foil for the boys because he’s naturally inclined to be more skeptical. The way the crew interacts would also set a good example for them to work out their shit.
Parker - Doctor Who. Parker as a Companion is hysterical, alright. I especially love reading fics where she’s got more of a Clara “gets picked up when the Doctor gets bored/lonely” backstory than a “lives on the TARDIS fulltime” one. Plus, if any of the members of the crew were secretly friends with a nigh-immortal alien and didn’t think to tell anyone, it’d be Parker. Cue the Doctor coming to pick her up and landing in the middle of Leverage headquarters. They’re all baffled. Something horrible has happened and Parker gives everyone puppydog eyes until they agree to help. Obviously because it’s what they’re good at, whatever Parker and crew do also ends up with the side benefit of saving someone the Doctor would’ve otherwise lost.
Hardison - DC Comics. Specifically, I love Hardison getting into a hack-war OR being mysteriously contacted by Oracle. The sheer amount of fanboying that would happen, okay. Also, bonus points if the reason for the hack-war or contact is because Leverage got hired to investigate something related to Wayne Enterprises, only to realize that the client is trying to set WE and Bruce Wayne up for a fall. Bonus bonus points if it turns out that the client is the Riddler or some other Batman baddie (not the Joker), and that the person the crew spoke to is an actor or a goon. I’d go wit the tried and true “literally just the villain in a not-at-all-convincing-disguise” trope, but let’s face it, the crew would see right through that. Also, I still maintain Eliot is the one to realize Bruce is Batman. Leverage crew manages to set something up that helps make a proper dent in the ridiculousness that is the Gotham crime scene.
Sophie - White Collar. Honestly White Collar/Leverage crossovers are a dime a dozen. But I like the idea of Sophie and Neal being old frenemies since they’re interested in the same sorts of loot and just go at it from wildly different angles. Plus, she has a lot of insight when she puts her mind to it, and I think she’s the one who’s most likely to be able to win Peter over. Eliot’s too harsh, Nate’s too cynical, Parker’s too weird, Hardison’s too nerdy. Sophie, on the other hand, would be able to win Elizabeth over, and that plus her history with Neal and Mozzie would make Peter begrudgingly trust her. From there, I think she could do a lot to set the whole crew on the right path.
Nate - NCIS. idk, I just like the idea of Nate and Gibbs as a dynamic duo. Obviously this starts because there’s a murder, and NCIS is investigating. Leverage gets hired by someone related to the victim because they don’t trust the military, because they have a history and/or reason to believe that the military is somehow responsible for the murder. There’s a lot of near-misses where Gibbs starts getting a little too close to the investigation. Eventually though, they get caught. Not by Gibbs, not at first. I’m thinking Tony, who is more likely to let something slide if he thinks it’ll help. By the time Gibbs realizes what’s going on, they’ve proven themselves to be The Good Guys, and Gibbs has to relent and let them do their thing (he obviously still knocks Tony upside the head, though). Nate, having been more or less in Gibbs’ shoes, the good person inside a corrupt system, will be a massive help in the general fuckery of a conspiracy that goes on with all these damn crime dramas. In this case, they both help each other get out of their own heads. Nate also learns a healthier coping mechanism than drowning in alcohol. Also, Hardison + Parker + Abby = amazing.
