182 Days of TPN - Day 94
Chapter 94: “All of Us, Alive”
Oh I just know this moment would’ve looked amazing had it been animated with an arc shot.
Tumblr media
I know I tease about the plot armor Emma had in order to survive getting stabbed, but whatever Palvus has is next level. Little guy was perched on Leuvis’ shoulder the majority of the fight and didn’t get hit with a single bullet, electrocuted or blinded. What crazy luck.
Tumblr media
Same with Adam. He might’ve only got knocked back by Leuvis’ injured arm once, but he’s built different..quite literally.
Tumblr media
Emma’s plot armor must have a time limit drawback because the girl could barely take another step before collapsing once more. Naturally it sends Ray into panic mode yet again. My poor kids can’t catch a break. I just want them to celebrate their well-earned victory!
Tumblr media
The amount of relief, joy and shock they must be feeling upon seeing each other again for the first time in thirteen years.. aaah, it’s amazing neither one bursts into tears here because I honestly would.
Tumblr media
I love both of them and their long-awaited reunion, truly, but it would be a lot more wholesome if Emma still wasn’t bleeding out here! Thankfully they keep it brief for her sake. Calling someone an idiot is definitely a term of endearment. I don’t make the rules.
Tumblr media
No more medication? No problem! Just leave the healing to Ray’s abundant knowledge, some fancy herbs and conveniently placed medical equipment to save the day! Nah but seriously though, I love how intense his emotions are, though I’m sure the anger he’s feeling here is still a result of what Leuvis did rather than towards the lack of medicine. It’s definitely a set back but Ray’s gonna do whatever it takes to save Emma’s life. He’s so determined he’s thinking up every possible solution there is.
Tumblr media
Could you imagine if Yuugo guided the duo to GP on that one & a half day trip instead? If he really wanted to get rid of them at the start, that’s certainly the way he should’ve went.
Tumblr media
Take a drink every time someone in this series tries to be self-sacrificing.
Tumblr media
Favorite panel/moment:
He cares for her so much it makes my heart ache and my eyes tear up. He spent his whole life striving to keep her alive and he’ll be damned if he doesn’t hold onto his promise now, especially when he believed in Emma’s words so strongly. If no one is allowed to die then that means you too, sweetheart!

HNK 94 SPOILERS
i will just. word vomit all my emotions and feelings first... like the way adamant finally shattered at the command of phos... and hearing adamant say his final words to phos kinda snapped my heart in half ^_T at this point, phos has lost everything, including their comrades, their true self and identity, and now, their only master who had loved them unconditionally. I’M... i’m going insane.... it’s pretty nuts to know how much phos is burdening in every update... ichikawa is over here like, “but wait, there’s more..! ;-)” (and not the way she lost her ps5 raffles rip sensei... someone help her)
all sadness and despair aside, i found this chapter to be incredibly compelling not just with ichikawa’s captivating visuals but with another interesting development with phos. aechmea has been an interesting “antagonist” since the beginning, and i appreciate his role in driving phos forward, for better or for worse. their dynamic is insanely interesting!! it’s very likely that aechmea appeared to manipulate phos into putting adamant’s eye on. i think... he might have been there to distract phos in order to take all of their broken companions, perhaps to provoke phos and force them to pray. i’m only guessing, as they’re now left entirely on their own (literally can’t go anywhere either; they have no means of lunar transportation? and i am like, so sure aechmea ain’t coming back lol)-- and it just feels like the only thing they can do now is.... pray. that would ultimately be what aechmea wants, so maybe?? i also found it really peculiar that phos hallucinated the six impacts, and it makes me wonder if adamant had suffered through these visions during his time on earth ;; i’m not sure why phos is seeing them now, but i’m curious about its symbolism to the story and what this could mean for phos here on out.
i was relieved to see phos’ anguish for their broken friends dissipate, but upset that they can’t make amends since aechmea took them all away LOL.... like ok great, cool ^_^!! i almost cried when phos desperately tried to search for adamant, shinsha, and the others so they could put them back together, but they were all missing.... also, to address the ask above, i wanted to give my perspective on the earth gems! everything ichikawa writes is never black and white, meaning there are many perspectives that deviate from a single story. phos has valid feelings of emotional turmoil, but it doesn’t mean their actions were moral. to the earth gems, phos appeared to be corrupt and became a potential danger to their society and adamant. all gems struggle with communicating their feelings and can’t comprehend what they need in order to tend to their emotional grievances. their natural “solution” is to bury issues; they went through centuries doing that in the time of war, and they would continue to do so because it’s what they know. everyone has their own agenda of “right” and “wrong”, so being angry at the earth gems for their reaction towards phos felt a bit bias. anyway, i hope we get to see the earth gems come back before the series ends!! they’re technically ok....though, i wonder what they’ll decide to do with them...if anyone has more 94 thoughts to share, i’d love to know!! thank you for reading my thoughts and cries!
PS to the anonymous: thank you so much for appreciating hnk and my art for it! i don’t have many friends to talk about it either, so i appreciate expressing it with you guys ;_; i love discussions...

Houseki no Kuni Chapter 94 Thoughts: Inheriting the burden
This chapter was worth the two month wait. And to be honest, I’m kind of glad that we didn’t get this chapter last month because, if you saw my previous post, October had been very hard for me for several reasons.
But yeah, this chapter... So short but impactful. And heartbreaking, as usual. I’m still surprised by how some of the things in my old prediction from over a year ago happened, but the results are more gut-wrenching. One of main differences being that Adamant was actually happy to go and the other is Phos being alive, though clearly dead inside now. If you’re interested in seeing this post, here’s a link: https://king-paimon.tumblr.com/post/188597157145/hnk-theoretical-ending-worst-case-scenario
Anyways, this chapter is very straightforward and I don’t have a lot to talk about so this post won’t be super long. Like always, feel free to share your own thoughts with me and I apologize for mistakes I’ll surely make. I’m definitely going to make edits on this one. (I did make some edits. I hope you read them!)
Goodbye Adamant
Tumblr media
(Chapter 94, Page 03)
Sigh. Seeing Adamant disappear the way he did was very sad, and also tranquil, in a way. It looks like it was true that after everything he went through, from watching humanity die to watching his precious gems be taken time and time again because of him, and him being unable to fulfill his true purpose, he had been wanting to disappear for a long time. And finally, Phos was the one who liberated him, even though it was definitely not intentional. I talk more about this in depth in the post for Chapter 93: https://king-paimon.tumblr.com/post/631282595252043776/hnk-chapter-93-bittersweet-victory-bittersweet
Also mentioned in that post, I made a prediction that when Adamant crumbles, all that would be left was an eye. This was based off of several observations of him in the previous chapters and for a while, an eye would be associated with him, like him holding onto Phos’s eye or the first machine’s eye. I can’t believe it actually happened. I was loosing it when I saw the first leaks.
Now Adamant’s eye is part of the Phos’s new ‘human’ form, and it’s showing Phos these horrifying visions. Just like when Phos inherited Lapis Lazuli’s head and Cinnabar’s mercury, it looks like Phos inherited Adamant’s memories and those scenes were likely memories of humanity’s destruction. I wonder if these visions also somehow alludes to the possibility that this destruction might happen again.
One thing that has me a little perplexed was his final words to Phos. At first, I thought it was nice that his last words were words of encouragement... But I looked again and he said to Phos that they should “pray wholeheartedly for happiness.”  Was Adamant specifying to Phos to pray for their own happiness or for everyone else’s? Like, did he also envision Phos taking over his role? I hope not. I don’t know, but I want to think that Adamant was wishing Phos luck in finding peace. I hope I’m just over thinking this page, in fact, I’m sure I am. But let me know what you guys think!
I’m a little disappointed that we didn’t get to see Adamant and Aechmea interact directly. Maybe Ms. Ichikawa would find a way, since it looks like the lunarians collected Adamant’s remains, but we’ll see.
But yeah; Adamant is now free from the burden of existing. But sadly, and predictably, that burden is now Phos’s.
Inheriting the burden
It looks like it all but verbally confirmed now: Aechmea’s true goal for Phos was for them to take over Adamant’s role as the one to pray. And it was fascinating how even though Aechmea didn’t say a thing in this chapter, he continues to show how methodical and conniving he is. What an amazing antagonist he is.  Hopefully he’ll talk the next time we see him. Maybe he’ll try to manipulate Phos into thinking that taking over Adamant’s position is a good thing for them, maybe play on Phos’s old desire to find their purpose. But I’m also fine if he doesn’t. I’m glad that it’s becoming clear to Phos that Aechmea was just using them once again, but this time the price of their actions have permanent consequences.
(Edit: In addition to Phos becoming Adamant’s replacement for praying, it’s understandable to predict that Phos would somehow take up Adamant’s other role; a leader for the gems. Who knows how this would happen. Maybe new gems will come to be while Phos is alone on Earth, or the other gems somehow come back, though I have doubts right now and you’ll see why in the next paragraph. Either way, Phos would find themselves ironically taking over Adamant’s role amongst the gems. And to make it more ironic, what would happen if another gem were to take up Phos’s old role and cause this whole cycle to repeat again. Wouldn’t that be tragic? Or maybe it’d be an opportunity to prevent the same mistakes Adamant made? Or maybe it just shows how history is doomed to repeat itself, no matter what? Who knows. This was a thought that I original had when the leaks came out but I removed it after the translation was released because I thought it wouldn’t be possible anymore. But seeing other people make similar predictions gave me the inspiration to add this edit. I wonder if anyone will notice...)
As for what Aechmea’s plans are for the shattered gems? I think he’s going to dispose of them. I highly doubt Aechmea’s going to rebuild those gems, unless he’s somehow persuaded by the remaining moon gems but that’s very unlikely. He purposely didn’t fulfill his promise to Phos to restore other gems, and if he can convince Phos to pray for him and everyone else, there’d be no point to rebuilding them anyway. I think he’s taking them so Phos would isolated again. He’s used this tactic many times make it easy for him to manipulate Phos and I’m sure he’s going to do it again to convince Phos to pray. Speaking of which...
And there’s no one left....
Tumblr media
(Chapter 94, Page 23)
Look how far this poor child has fallen. So different from how they were in the previous chapters, from a hellbent vengeance beast to this being of pure sadness and desperation. I’ve stated many times that at the end of this sugar coated vengeance crusade, reality would hit Phos right back in the face and push Phos to rock bottom. And it happened. And it was so sad to watch.
Ms. Ichikawa did such a good job emulating the sense of emptiness, despair, and desperation in this chapter. Everything, especially the school, looks so big and empty now that there’s no one there but Phos. And Phos’s face and demeanor as they looked everywhere for the fallen gems and Adamant, when they desperately grasped for Adamant’s eye because “they want happiness” and when he witnessed those visions was the icing on the cake.
Poor Phos. Everything is out of their grasp again, but this time, there’s nothing to turn back too. He wanted to restore the gems, but they are all taken away, likely forever. He wanted Adamant to pray for him, but he’s also gone forever. Phos sacrificed so much to get to this point; Phos destroyed their relationships, their former allies, their own BODY to try to find a solution this situation they were put in. They did all of this not just for everyone else’s sake but for their own sake, so they can finally have some control over his life. So he can be happy. But once again, it all led to this situation that he has no control over. Phos now knows that he was once again used as a pawn for Aechmea’s grand plan and it looks like there’s no way out of it. No one’s there to save him.
The only other gems that aren’t destroyed are Yellow Diamond, Goshe, Ame, and Cairn. And at the bottom of the last page, it sounds like we’ll be focusing on the moon gems in the next chapter. What’ll happen with them? No clue. But honestly, I don’t care right now.
Phos is alone again, but it’s absolute now.
Adamant is gone. Cinnabar is gone. Padparadscha is gone. Any gems or Admirabilis that gave an ounce of care for Phos are no longer on earth.
There’s no one left.
All Phos has now are tragic memories that are not their own and the feeling of despair.
And if that’s not lonely enough, if Phos were to pray, it’s highly likely that they’ll be the only one left behind while everyone else permanently disappears. That’s how it was for Adamant, after all. And just like Adamant, Phos would continue this painful existence, sacrificing parts of themselves for others, and no one’s there to save them.
So it doesn’t matter how the situation will turn out; in the end, Phos doesn’t win and will be all alone.
(edit: It’s also fascinating to see how similar Phos and Adamant really are, from the loneliness of knowing the truth of everything to watching the ones they care about be taken away from them and being practically powerless to do anything to change it. These two characters are so tragic.)
I said this many times before and I’ll keep on saying it until something changes:
Phos’s cycle of suffering is never going to end.
Phos will never have a happy ending.

Drinking With Cupid Part I (Chan)
Tumblr media
Title: Drinking With Cupid Part I
Pairing: Chan x Reader
Genre: Angst; Fluff
Word Count: 5,159 Words (all parts)
Writer: Whattodowithkpop [Lio]
A/N: I think I have seen a movie or tv show with a similar concept to this, but if I have, I don't remember for certain. I was also inspired by the song 'Drinking With Cupid' by VOILÀ. This is for the @acewriters writing event.
*****
Half of the world lives in committed bliss, thriving with their significant others, some with children as they live their life in a happy family unit. The other half were not tied down, either living alone or even still living with mom and dad in their basement for the ease and convince. It's hard to find love, even in a world littered with dating apps and websites, it would seem as if finding a partner would be much easier.
Here at Cupid, we don't agree with the apps and websites philosophy. Running numbers is a much more efficient way of finding love with much more ease and much less heartbreak. Sure, there are some adults who prefer to stay single and plan to be that way for a long time, to those we applaud and root for as they follow their dreams. For the millions who long to find love, however, we have your solution. Cupid was founded by its CEO, who went by the name Cupid, back in 2018, and since then has been working on matchmaking software that outshines even the best dating websites and apps. His software is nearly perfect down to the final .%, ensuring an airtight compatibility that has successfully matched thousands of happy couples since its launch in 2019. The future is bright for Cupid, with more and more matches being made the more accurate the percentages are becoming. All you need to do is go by Cupid Incorporated to get your numbers in our system and from their we will do the rest.
~
Chan walks along the floor, surrounded by hundreds of guests that had come to celebrate Cupid's two year anniversary. He was the founder of this algorithm, however he remains anonymous by his own will, knowing some people wouldn't be thrilled about the idea of this type of system for matchmaking. Chan had started this project after he had many failed relationships. Some only lasted a few weeks and ended without much attachment, however, there were some relationships that were lengthy and caused deep scaring on his heart when they ended. That's when he thought of this idea, of matchmaking based on numbered compatibility. He wanted to find the one he would match with, the one that would make him happy without having to go through the tragic relationships that were doomed for failure from the start.
Eventually, he became consumed with this project, abandoning dating altogether and harvesting a desire to perfect this algorithm. He didn't look for love anymore and soon, his desire for true love dwindled and was replaced by the success that Cupid started bringing him. When Cupid became big, he was running compatibility numbers all day, hundreds of numbers running matches and placing people together where more than 94% of matches were successful to lifelong companionship.
Chan, now a young adult well on his way to become one of the biggest entrepreneurs in the world, filled his pleasures elsewhere, his money getting him anything he wanted to which he used to fill up his free time. Here he was, at the anniversary party for his company, a hidden alter ego amongst the crowd, no one having the faintest clue as to how powerful he was. He quite enjoyed it, it was how he got most of his biggest investors was undercover work like this, plus without all the press. However, chatting with these rich powerful people in one room was something that became exhausting in a rather quick manner. He would wander off into a quiet space, taking a large allotted time to recuperate from the tiring chats.
On one of his getaways, he escaped to the hallways of the auditorium his company booked for the party. The spacious hallways carried the echos of his footsteps down the entirety of the hallway, alerting anyone, if there, that he was walking down the corridor. That meant he was also able to hear footsteps if there happened to be a soul walking through the same halls and, coincidently, there was. The sharp, quick sounds were easy to deduct that the person was, most likely, a female wearing a thin high heel and walking at a quick pace back to the party area. Chan felt a rush of excitement at the small mystery he had encountered in the hallway. It wasn't big like a robbery or a murder, but for what was going on in the room behind him, this was an exciting change of pace.
Chan, however, was not ready for this mystery to be reveled to him, the figure making his heart stop for a few seconds, before beating in an irregular pattern. His throat went dry, his palms sweaty and his knees weak, his mind blanking as the woman he had hypothesized rounded the corner. However, he didn't hypothesize her to be stunning in every way, an enchantress of his body approaching him faster than he could prepare.
When she saw him her head tilted in confusion, she didn't expect to see someone else in this quiet hallway. As she approached him, Chan felt as time had stopped when she stood in front of him, her smile radiant as it beamed at him.
"I'm looking for the Cupid anniversary party, I got dropped off at the wrong entrance." Her voice was soothing, something Chan could listen to all day without getting bored.
He hadn't realized how long he had been staring, until she asked the question again with a nervous laugh, the awkward tension building the longer he stayed silent.
"Oh!" He exclaims, a bright blush creeping onto his cheeks and ears as he scratches the back of his head. "It's just down this hallway, the party is behind the yellow doors you can't miss them."
She smiles with a small laugh, nodding in understanding. "Thank you."
Chan watches her begin to walk away, towards the direction he had just came. It takes him a second before he comes to his senses, walking to catch up with her until he walks beside her.
"Would it be okay if I accompanied you to the party? I wouldn't want you to walk by yourself, especially since you already got dropped off at the wrong entrance."
She looks over to him, her smile reaching her eyes and making Chan's heart spin.
"That would be great, thank you."
The two walk back to the party, their conversation engaging and never finding a dull moment. Even during the party, the pair stayed close by, engaging in many more conversations as the evening continued. Chan was smitten and he knew it. All the plans he had for years to come flew out the window as he talked to her more, finding her funny and adorable making him fall for her more as the sun set in the sky. It was the end of the night when they, finally, had a moment alone with most of the guests having left he could hear her with more clarity.
"Are you here to invest in Cupid?" Chan asks, his nerves high as it was a personal question especially in this line of business.
"Oh, I'm not an investor." She smiles as she looks out the giant windows the venue had, the stars beginning to emerge from the darkness of the night sky. "I actually have my numbers in Cupid's system. I wasn't exactly invited personally, I only wanted to hear more about Cupid's algorithm."
As the secret host of the party, Chan normally would've been annoyed by this intrusion, however in this case, he was ecstatic over her sneaking in this way. He was also elated to hear her numbers were in the system, even though he had a policy for himself that he couldn't use the numbers for his own benefit, he was excited to hear she didn't hate the algorithm.
He was thrown off guard when she asked him the same question, his nerves skyrocketing as he hadn't prepared a cover story, most investors just wanted to talk about themselves and money so they never asked for his specifics. In his panicked state, he blurted the first thing that came to his mind.
"I'm Cupid's brother." Chan trails off, watching as her face shows a range of emotions.
"Wait, you know Cupid?" She asks in excitement, making Chan feel a bout of anger for his imaginary brother she asked about with such excitement.
"I do." He says, his response short and annoyed.
"That must be interesting. Especially, with how his brain works to where it was able to create an algorithm such as Cupid."
Chan realized how idiotic it was, feeling jealousy over himself because he panicked and told a lie, however he couldn't help it as he watched her talk about another guy the way she was talking about Cupid.
"Yea, he is really smart." Chan mumbles, watching as she turns to face him.
"I'm sure you hear that a lot, so I would rather talk about you." She smiles, her body turned towards his, giving him her full attention.
Chan smiles, feeling butterflies in his stomach as she looks at him waiting for him to tell his story. Chan felt those butterflies drop, however, when he realized he was Cupid and to tell her about himself would mean he'd have to talk about his imaginary brother.
"It's getting really late." Chan notes as he sees the sun sinking below the horizon. "What if I took you to dinner sometime and we can continue our conversation."
The woman smiles, her bottom lip hiding behind her teeth to try to surppress her smile. "I would really like that, yeah."
The two exchanged numbers before exchanging goodbyes, each leaving their own way after exiting the venue. Chan felt a surge in his heart, a feeling he never felt before in any relationship he has ever been in. It felt like there was a spark between the two of them, sending jolts of excitement through his body. He went home, his first call to one of his good friends, Donghun, as he told him about the girl that had caught his attention. Donghun expressed excitement for his friend, however, felt an uneasiness about the situation, warning Chan to proceed with caution in this relationship. In his state, Chan missed the warning, telling Donghun he needed to go think up a cover story for him to tell her when they went to dinner, making Donghun feel even more uneasy as they said their goodbye's.
On the other side of the city, she arrived home, calling one of her good friends as well to tell him about the man she met. However, her conversation had a little different feeling than Chan's. Her friend, Byeongkwan, was her confidant in her elaborate plan to take down Cupid and his algorithm. Her numbers were in the Cupid database, yes, however she had already been matched. She was matched with a man who's numbered compatibility was high with hers, they dated for three years, hundreds of memories made together and loved poured into each other. It was two months before their wedding, both having gone to their respected parties and planning on sleeping apart that night as they were expecting to be too far gone to both make it home. That night she found him with another woman, in their shared bed. She was heartbroken, having poured two years of her love and life into this man all based on numbers calculated on a computer made her bitter at the world. Thus began her plan for revenge. She didn't have much of a plan, only knowing she wanted to end Cupid for good, not wanting anyone else to continue dating someone because their numbers were compatible, that wasn't how you found love.
Byeongkwan was her friend that helped her through her breakup, one that took a long time to recoup from. He didn't agree 100% with her plan, however, it was what got her off his couch and back to her life, so he didn't want to send her back into her lethargic way just because he disagreed with her motives. So he listened to her that night, her telling him about the man she met that was related to Cupid and how she planned to get some information about him through Chan. However, something had Byeongkwan smirking on the other side of the phone. She talked about 'using' this Chan character, however she had a lot of sweet things to say about him and expressed countless times how much she enjoyed his company. Before they ended their call Byeongkwan asked her if she would go on the date, to which she replied with an immediate 'yes'. Byeongkwan, relieved, bid her a goodnight and congratulated her on finding someone who could help advance her in her tale for revenge.
~
Byeongkwan was surprised to receive a call the next night, his clock showing almost midnight when her caller I.D flashed across the screen. He was even more surprised to hear they had already been on their date and to keep adding to the surprises, she didn't mention Cupid once. The only thing she talked about was Chan and his goofy personality that she found adorably alluring. Byeongkwan couldn't help but feel relief hearing her talk about a man this way again, a man that sounded good for her and one who wouldn't end up breaking her heart. Byeongkwan knew you couldn't base a character purely on second hand accounts from one date, however everyone starts somewhere and this Chan fellow was starting out right in Byeongkwan's book.
Yet again, on the other side of the city, Chan had called Donghun to tell him about the date. Donghun was elated Chan had found someone he really liked, someone that seemed to compliment him well, however one thing still plagued Donghun's mind that he couldn't let go of.
"She doesn't know you're Cupid." Donghun's solemn voice travels into Chan's ear and makes the boy's cheery smile drop.
"I'll tell her eventually." Chan promises his friend, his tone quiet from how it usually was.
"I don't want to see you put it off so long that a small, white lie becomes a regret."
"I know, I know. I promise I'll tell her soon."

Homestuck^2 - Reactions Chapter 2 “Clown Logistics” (Pages 57 - 95)
Time for the "Clown Logistics"!
...There's nothing I can think of but a hypothetical department within Jane's ship. So, a chapter from Jane's perspective is my only theory right now!
I mean, seeing as Gamzee’s (presumably) dead I assume this won’t be a direct focus on him.
If we do focus on Jane now, it's interesting how the B2 Kids are getting the majority of the focus so far in Homestuck^2.
And Roxy, who had, especially in the later parts of Homestuck, the majority of screentime has so far not appeared yet.
Very, very interesting indeed.
Anyway, let's read on.
Page 57:
NOPE, SOMETHING ELSE ENTIRELY. But still related to fucking Gamzee of course.
WE'VE GOT OFFICIAL ART FOR VRISKA MARYAM-LALONDE NOW :O
Oh man.
I'd been forming some mental images on what Vriska Maryam-Lalonde and Tavros Crocker would look like. But to be honest, my creativity wasn't that good so I'd been mostly imagining a near exact copy of Vriska, and a humanized version of Tavros. :P
Meanwhile, for Harry Anderson I'm imagining something like John/Jake with a hair style more like Roxy.
But no, just look at her!!!
She's like a gothic Vriska! Oh man, makes complete sense, considering how Rose and Kanaya like to dress themselves. I can't believe I hadn't thought of that actually.
And it's minutes in the past, which explains why she's not with Tavros currently.
Maybe that means we'll see him too in a little bit? :O
Anyway, Vriska Serket's looking surprisingly okay, considering how earlier she was seemingly bleeding to death, based on the narration. :P
Pffff, Vriska's being classic Vriska already. Stealing stuff and giving herself advantages at the cost of others.
Though to be honest, John's probably not missing that phone right now.
Page 58:
Yikes, yeah, Gamzee sure got a rough beating there.
I like that they decided to depict the scars from Nepeta's claws here!
Oh boy, does this mean Vriska Serket's going to stop being (Vriska)? Indication she's gonna become relevant again? :P
Then what is she going to call Vriska Maryam-Lalonde? Is this going to be based on a suggestion from the readers?
Is it going to be anything like her real name? Or is it going to be a different spider-related name?
...I'll laugh if she decides to name her Aranea. xD
Page 59:
Vrissy! :O
I like the sound of it! It sounds enough like Vriska, and is also 6 letters. And it rolls well enough of the tongue.
Anyway, oh god, Vrissy's gonna call upon Tavros Crocker isn't she? :/
To involve him in this criminal matter... yeah, sounds like something a kismesis might do. :P
I wonder if Tavros is gonna get a nickname. Perhaps not, seeing as there isn't a second Tavros around right now (unless Gcatavrosprite finally shows up again).
Also, since when does Vriska have an eyepatch? I mean, I knew Karkat has an eyepatch now, but I had no idea Vriska also had one.
I like how she drew an 8 on it to make it resemble an 8-ball though.
Page 60:
Ahahaha, Vrissy's immediately sold on the new nickname.
Is she gonna insist that everyone uses that name from now on? Including her parents?
I wonder what kind of car Tavros will be coming with. Will it look like Dad's car?
Oh boy, what is Vriska's reaction going to be to the existence of a Tavros here. xD
Let's hope she doesn't tear into Tavros like he's... ahum, Tavros.
Page 61:
Hehe, perfection! Slightly calmer than I'd have expected her to be, but still.
And uh, is Tavros really gonna get a kick out of this? I mean, he didn't like Gamzee very much of course, but I'd think he'd be a bit too much of a nice person to really uh, enjoy this?
God I'm so curious to see what he'll look like...
Page 62:
There he is already!
A hovercar! Can't say I was expecting that, hehe.
Page 63:
There he is!!!!! :D
Oh man, he looks like a perfect mix between Jane and Jake. Jane's glasses, Jake's hair and bowtie. And the buck teeth of course! :B
It's so cool to finally see what Vrissy and Tavros look like. After all this time that we only had dialog and no images, hehe.
Page 64:
Ahahahaha, mood whiplash! Yup, that's truly an Egbert/English/Nitram reborn. xD
That's exactly how I imagined him reacting to this.
Page 65:
Ha, alright. He really doesn't mind Gamzee's dead.
Page 66:
N'awww. It's pretty heartwarming that the badass Serkets allow Tavros to have this little emotional moment instead of ripping into him.
Page 69:
Hehe, return of the Scribble Mode-like art style!
Oh boy, Tavros is removing his sweater. I wonder what he looks like underneath that! Is there gonna be any symbol popping up here? :P
Page 70:
Ooooh, suspenders! Instantly makes me think of Caliborn and Doc Scratch... errr, not really the best people to be thinking of here I guess. xD
I wonder if this is truly the last we'll see of Gamzee.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he's somehow only "almost" dead and will suddenly start honking again from within the trunk.
Page 71:
HOLY SHIT HARRY ANDERSON EGBERT OUT OF NOWHERE
Wow... man, for a second I didn't realize it was him! To be honest, I first thought it was a girl.
But then I noticed the hair style, the eyes... that's so Roxy-like. Combined with the buck teeth and the blue scarf, that sold it. Just like how Roxy likes to wear scarfs.
Oh man, I love the designs of these characters.
Page 72:
OH DEAR GOD, HE'S A TOTAL COOLKID.
OH MAN
He talks so much like Roxy, I love it.
Pfffahahaha, he doesn't believe a WORD Vrissy is saying. His face is going to be PRICELESS when he sees that she's telling the truth.
Page 75:
Ahahaha, yes, Harry Anderson doesn't believe it at all.
...So that's what Alternian schools were like then. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. xD
I'm starting to think that perhaps they're just gonna bring Gamzee's body to the rebel camp, and that this way the news somehow reaches Jane that Tavros is with the rebels. Just not in the way she's thinking. :P
Oh boy, I hope that if they do go there they meet Karkat and Meenah. I want to see Vriska's face when she meets this badass leader Karkat.
And god I'm dying to find out what he looks like now.
Page 76:
Hehehe, I didn't immediately notice the spades in Vrissy's eyes.
Also, that sounds totally like a Jakey thing to say: "Righto".
It IS starting to look like abundantChewtoys pointed out to me that their relationship is relatively calm, despite being kismesises. Maybe it's somewhat like between John and Terezi!
Page 79:
A honk? Tavros heard a honk?
Oh man... is it really gonna turn out there's still a little bit of life left in him?
But yeah... there's no way this is gonna end well. SOMEONE's going to spot them carrying a body, right?
On the other hand, Vriska's always got irons in the fire, maybe now she's gonna get a clown in the fire. :B
Page 80:
Ahahaha, that's gonna make some noise and draw attention, isn't it?
Page 81:
Pffff, these guys. I love this little group of dorks.
Page 83:
Oh god, they better watch out for that smoke detector or whatever it is, or that's gonna set off a REAL alarm now.
Pages 84 - 85:
YUP, called it that they were going to bump into that.
I didn't think it was a sprinkler though, but close enough. :P
So what are they going to do now? Drop the body and run for cover?
If people find Gamzee, that's definitely going to hit the headlines though.
Page 86:
Ahahahaha, return of the Bluh! God it's been so long.
Yeah... they're busted. What are they gonna do now? Are Vriska and Vrissy going to pretend that Tavros is their hostage or something?
...I just realized we're nearing page 88, hahahaha.
Oh man, I just love Vriska in this chapter. These are just so much more sillier events than we're normally used to seeing her in. xD
Page 87:
Oh man, I didn't think we'd see actual dialog for these people!
It's interesting how they all have FIVE letters in their name. Not 4 like the human kids, nor 6 like the Troll kids, but 5.
I love how they talk like teenagers on social media.
Page 89:
Oooooh, I like how their eyes light up in the dark!
Pfff, yup, Vriska's really enjoying herself out here. Looks like she won't mind THAT much that she can't go back to the action in the Furthest Ring. :P
Also, uh, I don't think they'll just be able to get away when school's out. I bet they're probably going to call the police or something?
Page 90:
Ahahaha, so THAT'S why Jane thought the rebels had captured Tavros. She just refuses to accept the alternative.
That's really just her problem. It's always been.
She can just be SO convinced that she's right about something, she just won't believe she's wrong. Until she sees it with her own eyes.
Maybe that's going to be the best solution to all these problems she has been causing? That all the negative things get SMACKED into her face so she finally realizes what she's been doing wrong?
Page 91:
HOLY SHIT. NOW THIS TRULY IS THE HOMESTUCK AGAIN OF ALL THOSE YEARS AGO.
Linking back to scenes/conversations that happened earlier, hahahaha!
Page 92:
Just look at this smooth bastard. xD
Looks like the face of someone who still believes he's being pranked. Does he think Vrissy set off the fire alarm on purpose, just to get him out of class?
Page 93:
Oh boy, he's looking at his phone. Is he gonna see the same image as Jane on social media now?
Pages 94 - 95:
PERFECTION. THAT FACE. I LOVE IT. THAT'S ALL THERE IS TO SAY ON THE MATTER. XD
His last face reminds me a bit of Pickle Inspector.
Perfect end to a hilarious chapter!
God I love Homestuck^2.

8, 19, 38, 73, 87, and 94 for Lillian and Ayla 🌻💕
Oooh I love talking about these two!! Thank you so much and I’m sorry this took me forever to answer!
Lillian:8. What are their good and bad traits? She’s quite modest, humble and generous but can also be a bit vain and distant at times.
19. What does their relationship with their family look like? Are they close? Distant? Ect.She’s pretty close with her parents! They’re still living above the surface in London managing their many charities but they talk from time to time. They were pretty hesitant when Lily said she was moving to Rapture but happy that she was trying to become more successful in her career!
38. Do they get along with others easily?Absolutely! She can get along with nearly anyone above the surface or in Rapture. So far she hasn’t met anyone who didn’t have a good thing to say about her.
73. What attracts them to another person? While she does get along with everyone, she’s drawn more to extraverts or outgoing friendly people. She also attends a lot of Rpautre’s swanky parties and loves to mingle among the people there.
87. Who is someone that they rely on?In the early days, she relied a lot on Atlas. He seemed to always have a solution but as days went by he changed into someone she didn’t recognize anymore. These days she’s not sure who to rely on and is really trying to get back up to the surface.
94. Do they take criticism well?Yes! She’s gotten quite far in her singing career almost purely because she knows how to take criticism so well.
Ayla:8. What are their good and bad traits? She loves helping people and is very studious but also sluggish and lazy sometimes.
19. What does their relationship with their family look like? Are they close? Distant? Ect.She loves her parents! She hasn’t been able to see them very often on account of them living in her home country of Scotland though. She does plan on either visiting them soon or bringing them to her but hasn’t found the time yet between being a superhero and a college student.
38. Do they get along with others easily?Ayla and Lillian are pretty similar because they’re both rays of sunshine that can get along with just about anyone!
73. What attracts them to another person?Happiness! Ayla loves happy and upbeat people, sometimes that can be hard to find in Gotham but she manages to do it!
87. Who is someone that they rely on?I say this every time but it’s always true. Marv @colesphelps  is Ayla’s #1 best friend who she can always turn to at any time.
94. Do they take criticism well?It depends on the day. She’s usually pretty good about it but if you catch her on a bad day like if she’s been fighting criminals all day and studying all night she might not react very well but she’ll always apologize for saying anything mean.

Word count: 1.2K
Pairing: Dean X Reader
Warnings: Fluff, Pride and Prejudice references ;)
Summary: Dean comes up with a way to help the reader sleep better and she uses that to tell him how she really feels. Will it work?
A/N: This was written for my dear friend Kari that is @thing-you-do-with-that-thing. I really like this fic, I hope y’all like it, too <3
SPN Masterlist
Tumblr media
It started out very innocently, and only because it slipped past your lips as a drunken confession one night, when you had been celebrating a successful hunt in a rundown bar. Dean had asked you why you stay up at night, to which you had innocently blurted out the truth- that you had always had trouble falling asleep.
And when he had asked if there was a solution to it, you had blabbered that too. That sleep came easily when someone read out to you. It had started as a kid, when you mom read out stories to you- not fairy tales, but the badass ones that she had written herself. One where the dragon wasn't keeping the princess prisoner, instead he was her friend and he was helping her stay away from the proud prince who didn't deserve her. They were stories about warrior maidens who were fierce on the battle field, but also just and kind to her subjects. You had loved them.
Later in college, even though your roommate found it funny, she would read out course books to you and you would be out within a few minutes.
But times changed, and your life wasn’t as pretty or naive anymore. You had seen the reality behind the happy tinted veil- that monsters and creatures beyond your imagination existed, and it wouldn't take them more than a minute to tear down your entire world- just like they had.
With this truth came nightmares, and the sleep that was already scarce, sometimes evaded you completely. Only, there was no one left to read out loud to you. No, they were part of your nightmares now, as they were brutally snatched away from you.
The one good thing that had come out of this was meeting the Winchester. It was getting to fall in love with Dean. It was getting to live your best with him by your side. The only problem was that each moment next to him was marred by a the quiet sense of regret that your love was unrequited.
You didn't blame Dean in the least, because if he didn't know that you loved him, he couldn't very well return it, right? You didn't even try to let him know, so, no point holding it against him, but God, you wanted him to just read it out of your head how utterly in love with him you were.
The fact that he was the most caring man in the world didn't help your case either. When he found out about your sleeplessness, he offered to read to you. Which was how you found yourself in your bed, tucked in properly within fluffy blankets, with your head resting in his lap. Dean fussed over which book to read, which was a first world problem really, because how were you to tell him that by being so close to him, you weren't going to get any sleep anyway. Never mind that your heart was trying to beat out of your chest.
But sleep did come. As he read out loud from a Kurt Vonnegut book, his deep voice alluring and lulling, you did find yourself nodding off and soon your heart adjusted to the rhythm of his diction and you found yourself sleeping dreamlessly for the first time in years.
It became a tradition after that. Each night he would come over, read to you and by morning you'd be rested enough to take on the world. Until one night, he was so tired that he fell asleep right besides you. That was the first morning you woke up next to Dean Winchester, your eyes opening to the light dusting of freckles on his nose and the perfect shadows that his long lashes cast on his cheek. He was perfection. That was also the day you decided you were going to tell him how you felt. You had to, because the alternative of living your whole life with that secret buried in your heart was too painful to even consider.
The idea came to you just as quickly and the following evening you handed him your favorite love book - Pride and Prejudice.
Dean was skeptic. "You really want me to read this?"
"You should try it. It's pretty awesome, you know."
Dean laughed, looking way too reluctant. "You're seriously gonna put me through this, kid?"
"Yep!" You crossed your fingers behind your back, hoping that the book would say it all for you.
He gave in, as always, despite his own disinterest, and as always you fell asleep before he was even done with the first chapter. Dean continued next day with little to no whining. You didn't know if he had suddenly grown interested in the story, or if was just putting up with your tantrum, but you fervently did hope that he got your intent behind making him endure a romance novel.
So the days passed and so did the novel, and each morning you woke up in the circle of his arms. Just a little closer than yesterday, drawing his warmth and breathing the air that touched him.
That night he read, in a voice that spoke directly to your soul:
“...In vain have I struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you...”
A tear slipped down your cheek, soaking into his pajamas.
"Are you crying?" Dean gasped, shocked.
"No," you sniffed, trying to wipe your eyes inconspicuously. How stupid could you possibly be? Expecting Dean to see a deeper meaning into a book like ‘Pride and prejudice?’ What were you thinking?
"Hey, look at me," Dean said, gently shaking you, but you pushed your face deeper against his body.
His fingers found your hair and lightly carded through it. "I love you, Y/N," he breathed, unsure. "I'm no Darcy… I mean, you know I'm crap with words, but surely you can see that I can't imagine my life without you."
You sat up so quickly, that you hit his chin the process.
"What did you say?"
He was still massaging his chin. "I said, I love you, you crazy girl."
That's all you needed to hear as you crushed his lips with yours, pouring your hopeless, wordless love into it, and after a surprised second, he did the same, loving you with all he had.
Dean was right, he was no William Darcy. But he didn't have to be, because he was Dean Winchester and he was perfectly imperfect. One of a kind. The very best. And right then, he was yours. How many people were that lucky?
The answer presented itself quickly. No one, except you.

Fantastic Four Vol. 1 #110
Fri April 13 2018 [19:37:26] <Wackd> Well I wasn't expecting us to get to Jonathan Hickman this early but if Marvel Unlimited insists...
Tumblr media
[19:39:02] <Wackd> So Reed is drifting towards the Zone of Anti-Matter. This does, admittedly, seem to happen to him a lot. [19:40:17] <Wackd> COLLAGE https://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/0625S4ut/IMG_1685.PNG [19:41:12] <maxwellelvis> Not quite as cool as one Kirby would do, but alright. [19:41:42] <Wackd> So uh we're getting back to the "Ben's a jerk" stuff with a vengeance now. He's being VERY aggressive about not giving a shit that Reed's dying, and is also trying to install himself as the new leader. [19:42:12] <Wackd> "REED RICHARDS HAS FALLEN! NOW I, BEN GRIMM, AM LEADER OF THE FANTASTICONS" [19:44:51] <Wackd> Sue's reaction is pretty satisfying, all told.
Tumblr media
[19:46:06] <Wackd> Ben turns back into the Thing and becomes fucking terrifying, even threatening to hurt Sue "if you wuzn't a female." Hey, Ben, how's Alicia doing? [19:46:24] <Bocaj> Geez [19:47:04] <Wackd> Fortunately, Reed apparently explained the situation to Sue and Johnny off-panel? Even though I don't think Reed ever found out how much of a jerk Ben was being--having been dealing with Janus when we first saw the symptoms. [19:47:33] <Wackd> But whatever. If I nitpick EVERY micro continuity error, we'll be here forever. [19:47:45] <Bocaj> I mean [19:48:01] <Bocaj> With the number of issues existing you're going to be here forever anyway [19:48:12] <Wackd> Fair! [19:48:37] <Wackd> Agatha Harkness is here with Franklin, and Sue needs to explain to her that Reed is stuck in the Negative Zone, even though she did that last issue. [19:49:37] <Wackd> So, Johnny's hatched a cockamamie scheme to save Reed, because he'd do the same for them. [19:50:27] <Wackd> And Ben's on board because, uh, he's still in there somewhere, deep down, I guess? He doesn't really explain his motives. [19:51:46] <Wackd> *"ARMS OUTSTRETCHED" BY GRIFFIN MCELROY INTENSIFIES*
Tumblr media
[19:52:17] <Bocaj> https://griffinmcelroy.bandcamp.com/track/arms-outstretched [19:53:20] <Wackd> So Johnny, uh. Man we're playing some real fucking calvinball with his powers, here. [19:53:38] <Bocaj> What, you some kind of fire scientist? [19:53:43] <Bocaj> You know about fire all of a sudden [19:53:54] <maxwellelvis> Fire bad [19:54:06] <Wackd> He's encased a homing beacon in a "cocoon of intensified flame--hot enough to protect it, without making it melt." [19:54:24] <Bocaj> Dr Frankenstein Jr now he's a real combustionologist [19:54:42] <Wackd> And then thrown it really fucking hard in Reed's direction. [19:55:06] <maxwellelvis> FIRE BAD! [19:55:37] <Wackd> And then it...automatically stops and opens for Reed? Because. It was affected by his "human aura." [19:56:44] <Wackd> Unfortunately, Reed can't use it--Annihilius has found him, and if Reed returns to Earth, Annihilius will follow. [19:57:25] <Bocaj> Dammit Johnny [20:03:22] <Wackd> Everything about this sequence is 100% amazing.
Tumblr media
[20:05:32] <Umbramatic> i 100% empathize with jj [20:05:36] <Umbramatic> also hi [20:05:53] <maxwellelvis> I feel like there should be a cut to Greenwich Village, and Dr. Strange suddenly just sensing this tremendous power in midtown. [20:06:14] <Wackd> You agree that hurricanes are caused by commie radical liberals? [20:07:30] <Wackd> (Also, Robbie's great. "YOU turn it off!") [20:08:10] <maxwellelvis> Weird that JJ's dislike has once again extended to every long-underwear hero. [20:08:18] <maxwellelvis> That always feels odd to me for some reason. [20:08:18] <Wackd> And also the left! [20:08:24] <maxwellelvis> That too. [20:08:39] <maxwellelvis> That's weird considering that in the future he'll be a pretty staunch crusader for Mutant rights. [20:08:47] <Wackd> God, JJJ would make a great Fox News pundit. I'm sure someone's done that with him already. [20:09:03] <maxwellelvis> "All the networks are laughing at me, Brock! EVEN FOX!" [20:09:25] <maxwellelvis> I think J3TV might have been a Fox affiliate in the 94 cartoon [20:09:41] <maxwellelvis> (People always forget JJ owns more than just one newspaper) [20:10:05] <Wackd> SO! Here's Agatha's one weird trick. She fills the Negative Zone with millions upon millions of illusory Reeds, confusing Annihilus long enough for Reed to make a clean getaway. [20:10:26] <maxwellelvis> "Extradimensional tyrants hate her! Foil evil with this one simple trick!" [20:10:28] <maxwellelvis> I had to [20:10:45] <Wackd> Naturally Ben's reaction to Reed's safe return is to grouse over how no one's giving him any credit for it. [20:11:17] <maxwellelvis> I think Ben starts playing ball with Agatha because even as unpleasant as he's been, he's still petrified of her. [20:11:51] <Wackd> He barely even acknowledges her here. [20:13:03] <Wackd> And so, here's how four becomes three. Alicia shows up to see how Ben's doing, and Ben basically confirms her worst fears, saying that now that he can turn human again he can do better than her. [20:13:28] <Wackd> Johnny is so incensed by this that he starts to attack Ben, who turns on the team, and storms out after Sue finally beats him by turning his body invisible. [20:15:19] <maxwellelvis> https://twitter.com/GMGerrymander/status/984389936089567237 [20:16:11] <Wackd> Wait, you guys have PLANS? Is Ben gonna sabotage your super secret strategy of "rush foolhardily into battle, then wait for Reed to pull a solution out of his ass"?
Tumblr media
[20:16:35] <Bocaj> Those are some intense eyebrows [20:16:53] <maxwellelvis> He borrowed them from Conan [20:17:01] <maxwellelvis> The Cimmerian, not the talk show host.

The Girl who reaches the sun - Part 1
The view paralyzed me.
I don’t know how long I was there, standing in the middle of the others, the red cup on my hand. I don’t even know how I didn’t let go of the drink. It seems like every muscles on my body have stopped to function at the moment my eyes fell on her. Specially a muscle called Heart.
Her, sitting on his lap. Her hands was moving fast, just like every time that she gets too much involved in what she’s saying. And he seemed to not care at all, drinking in his cup, his hand on her thigh.
« I think I gonna throw up » I whispered to myself before to turn around and walk through the dancing bodies.
The music was loud, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves while I just wanted to run away from this party. I ended up at the bar, sitting there, more alone than ever. And just few days ago I performed for 40 000 people, how ironic is that. Head down, I noticed a little movement on my left before her voice screams in my ear.
« MENDES ! » I looked at her and even though I was mad at her, I couldn’t help myself but grin at the view of her smile, her shinny eyes and her high red cheeks due to the alcohol.
«  What is wrong with you ? Are you entering in your depressed phase after your tour ? » « No it’s not that » I spoke too low for her to hear it but she looked at my moving lips and didn’t stop smiling. «  You don’t want to tell ? Okay. Cool. Can I tell you something ? » I raised my eyebrows, intrigued, waiting for her to continue.
«  Shawn Peter Raul Mendes…your girl gonna fuck tonight ! »
Let me tell you that my smile faded away pretty fast.
« Oh really ? » « YES! » she screamed, too happy, as always. I swear this girl never stops smiling, never stops talking and never stops shining. I couldn’t believe that I had a chance to live in a little place of her heart. But in the best friend box. Not really the place I want to belong, but if it allows me to, sometimes, be the reason of this smile, I will keep it.
«  I mean... I’m not sure actually » she started laughing and I had to blink twice to not pass out «  I’ve been pretty direct with my intentions you know and I feel like he’s interested but we kissed and nothing happened then. »
One. Two. Breathe Shawn, it was just a kiss.
« What do you think Mendes ? Help me with your boys hormones ‘cause I’m a bit lost » Her green eyes catched mine and we stared for a second before she looked away and showed me a direction with her chin. I signed and slowly turned my head to see the guy from earlier, still sitting on the couch, talking to people around.
« This one ? With the blue snapback ? » I asked her, having a stupid hope that she laughs at me and says she’s kidding. «  Yes, is he not cute ? » « Well, ‘cute’ is not really an adjective I’ll use to describe him » «  Are you kidding me ? He is ! ..and I’m pretty sure he has a big one. » «  Oh god Lena » « What ? Don’t tell me you chose the girls you sleep with for their brain ? I know you love some good ass » She winked at me and gave me a little slap on the butt, but it was more on my low back as I was sitting on the stool. «  Right, but at least I chose girls with a little bit interest in me » «  What do you mean ? » «  Well…I’m not sure he listened to anything you said you know… probably too busy to look at girls who show 94% of their body » «  You asshole ! He listened what I said ! and I have a good body right ? »
Lena was small and not the thighest girl you could ever find but she had everything at the right places : really really beautiful boobs, a nice butt, some good thighs that I could kiss for hours. And her hands. So pretty hands that you want them to touch you forever. She spends so much time caring about her hands, I can’t even count how many hours she spended on my bed doing her nails or putting 3kg of cream on the winter to have the softest hands possible. A good body ? Hell damn Len, you have the most wonderful body I’ve ever seen !
«  Yes you do, don’t worry about that. But I still think that he didn’t have interest in what you say » «  That is bullshit. Everything I say is interesting. »
We looked at each other before we both exploded of laugh.
« Sure babe. You talking about how you discovered your bed sheets were actually made in Great Britain, is the kind of content that I qualify as interesting. » I smiled at her ironically while she was doing her (I quote) « bitchy glance ».
«  Shut up Mendes. Of course I don’t talk about my bed sheets to everyone. You have a privilege here. » «  Oh wow, what a privilege to know about your bed sheets rather than to whatever you were saying to him, sitting on his lap »
I thought she’ll notice the little sign about my feelings but she mostly noticed the « him » obviously as she was staring at him again.
«  hum…Hello ? The earth is calling Lena ? » « Do you really think he did not listen to anything ? » « Well I don’t know, I was not there, I can’t really tell. » She frowned a bit, thinking. «  Go ask him. » « What ? » « If you wanna know if he listened to you, go ask him about something you said to him to see if he remembered. You’ll know if he cares about you, a little at least »
Why was I trying to help her to go in his arms ? What was wrong with me ?
« Are you daring me to ask him ? To see if I can have sex with him ? » «  I don’t dare you. I just say it can be a good solution to your problem. » She looked at me more confused than ever. «  Can you speak like a kid of 19 years old please because my drunk brain can’t follow you anymore. » I chuckled a little. Lena was the type of girl who go back to her 7 years old when she is drunk and she couldn’t understand a thing the others were saying. So I decided to talk to her like a kid.
«  Alright. We gonna play a little game Len, you’re in ? » « YAS ! » « You see the boy over there, go ask him a thing about your conversation from earlier. If he get it wrong, you give up on him. If he get it right,… » I couldn’t finish the sentence. All I wanted to say was ‘you give up on him’. « I FUCK HIM ! » and she left me there, almost running to the boy.
I looked at the scene from my sit, I couldn’t hear a thing but at least I could see what was happening between them. They just seemed to talk when she finally turned her back to him and walked in my direction with a little smile she was trying to hide.
« So what happened ? » I asked, quite impatient. She sat next to me and signed. «  I walked to him. And put my hand on his arm, for him to look at me you know. He looked at me from head to toe. He smiled. So I was like ‘’hey. I’m just wondering if I could ask you a question because I’m a bit drunk so I forgot a thing I had to remember and I think I've talked to you about it so..?’’.  And he looked at me and asked me…’’sorry what’s your name again Hun?’’ »
I looked at her, trying to contain my laugh but her little pout made me explode. She put her head in her hands and started laughing with me. I always love these moments when we are both laughing without the others to understand what is happening between us. Being the one she laughs with makes my heart beats abnormally fast. When she laughs, she has two dimples, almost invisible, but so precious to me, and her eyes shine more than usual than the stars will be jealous of her green lights. Even before I realized I had feelings for her, I always thought Lena was the kind of girl that you can easily mistaken with a sunshine. Whenever she walks in a room, she seems to bring light in it, it’s like she had a halo around her and she lights up everyone around her. A little angel who put smile and happiness in others life just by breathing.`
« Daaaamn… and I thought he was interested in me » she said in a breath, trying to calm her laugh. «  I’m sorry. He is numb anyway. » « Maybe. But he was hot. » «  You can find another one. There is probably a boy, good enough for you there right ? »
I hardly believed what I just said. A boy good enough for her ? I’m not sure he actually exists. Even me, I’m not good enough. How can someone can be enough for a girl who reaches the sun ?
« Shawn Peter Raul Mendes…» I chuckled «...your girl not gonna fuck tonight. »
« Do you want to get out of it ? » « Oh my god yes ! »
I didn’t even had time to stand up that she griped my arm, too big for her small hands and pushed me through the dancing bodies around us. We took our coat and jacket and get out in the cold midnight of Toronto.
« Where’s your car ? » I indicated the direction with my finger and started to walk in the empty streets. She came closer to me, both of her arms holding her coat really close to her to keep herself warm. I raised my left arm, opening it for her and she snuggled up against me. We walked in silence until the corner of the street where the Jeep was parked and we  entered in it. While I was putting heating, my eyes glanced at her. She was looking through the window, lost in her thoughts. The lights from the street was illuminating her face and reflecting in the diamonds at her ears. Her halo was irradiating. And she was breathtaking.

I'VE BEEN PONDERING PG
It's very common for startups to present to them. Do people live downtown, or have some sort of exit. There is less stress in total, but more as an exploration of gender and sexuality in an urban context, etc.1 I think the goal of this rule; if you can't explain your plans concisely, you don't worry that it might come out badly, or upset delicate social balances, or that can incorporate live data feeds, or that you won't be demoralized if they seem pointless.2 One YC founder told me that it wasn't worth investing in. The patent pledge doesn't fix every problem with patents.3 I can tell from the case. This site isn't lame. They wouldn't all grow as big. It will be easier in proportion to an estimate of your company's value that you'd both agreed upon.
Then you could, I don't care what he says, I'm going to name them: type A fundraising is when you can do, you don't see the opportunities all around us is that we get on average only about 5-7% of a much larger number.4 In most fields the great work is: very exacting taste, plus the ability to direct the course of adding some feature they were asking for.5 Most hackers are employees, and this trick merely forces you to clean up your apartment, writing something that you'll be able to say whether he should be classified as a friend or angel.6 Don't say anything unless you're fairly sure what you want to reach; from paragraph to paragraph I let the ideas take their course. Sometimes a competitor will deliberately threaten you with a business background, and he will automatically get paid proportionally more. Not all of them had never seen the Web before we came to tell them to stop.7 If you're free of a misconception that everyone else is crazy. Most startups that raise money and the kind of alarms you'd set off if you operate like Columbus and just head in a general westerly direction.
As we were in the old sense of managing the round. Technology is a lever. Modern literature is important, but I suspect that most of them a part time job. In the Bay Area would be the answer. But let someone else start those startups. They're not necessarily trying to mislead you. Like a lot of people will make them.
But if you make something they like. 05 PM subject: Re: Revenge of the Nerds on the LL1 mailing list.8 American universities currently seem to be a media company to throw Microsoft off their scent. Java white paper, Gosling explicitly says Java was designed to be a missile aimed right at what makes America successful.9 Different users have different requirements, but I don't think that's the right way to do it. But this is merely an artifact of the rule of law.10 All you'll learn is the words kids are allowed to use. That's the way to the close.11 It did serve some purposes: reading a talk out loud can expose awkward parts. What investors still don't get is what insanely great translates to in a larval startup.
When I talk about humans being meant or designed to live a certain way out of habit or politeness. Hackers & Painters that hadn't been online. What counts as property depends on what works to treat as property. But this is wrong. What's a prostitute?13 Everyone by now presumably knows about the danger of premature optimization. Essentially, they lead you on. That will change the way they treat the music they sell through iTunes.14
So tablet makers should be thinking: what else can we give developers access to? White said, good writing is rewriting, wrote E. Almost four decades later, fragmentation is still increasing. The more people you have to do it than literally making a mark on the world. Investors looked at Yahoo's earnings and said to one of the principles they teach you is to align the car not by lining up the hood with the stripes painted on the road, but by trying to use mass lawsuits against randomly chosen people as a form of evolutionary pressure. People think that what you want. In principle anyone there ought to have multiple founders who were already friends before they decided to build recipe sites, or aggregators for local events.
Better Bayesian Filtering. They may play some behind the scenes as adults spin the world for a while, can make visual perception flow in through his eye and out through his hand as automatically as someone tapping his foot to a beat. If you looked in people's heads. They are all fundamentally subversive for this reason. I sat down and calculated what I thought was hard, the groups all turned out ok. Election forecasters are proud when they can get it, at this stage.15 The danger of symmetry, and repetition especially, is where the richest buyers are, but figure out precisely where you lose them. Till then they had to ask permission to release software: the last thing you changed. But fortunately in the US are more conservative than Boston ones.18 People are all you need is to be battered by circumstances—to let the days rush by. But that's something you can fix later, but you can't evade the fundamental conservation law. And yet Apple's overall market share is still small. Though the Web has been around for a millennium is finished just because of its prestige, but because they were ambivalent about threatening their cash cow, mainframe computing. I'm talking mainly about software startups are now the first digital computer game, you can probably write a subroutine to do would be better at opening it than people who might be a good problem to fit your solution. Look at those goddamn fleas, jabbering about some disease they'll see once in China, during the war on drugs show, bans often do better, and instead of the world of the most famous example.
Plus one can ever say it again. When I catch egregiously linkjacked posts I replace the actual amount of damage to the founders' advantage if it was 94% 33 of 35 companies that can't reasonably expect to make a fortune in the case, not because Delicious users are stupid.
But you're not allowed to discriminate on any basis you want to get going, and oversupply of educated ones come up with elaborate rationalizations. It's hard for us!
2%. If a prestigious VC makes a small proportion of the things you're taught.
Doing things that don't scale.
Now the misunderstood artist is not limited to startups. There's not much use, because few founders are willing to provide when it's done as conspicuously as this place was a false positive rate is 10%, moving to Monaco would only give you more than the previous round. Cascading menus would also be good startup founders tend to get going, e.
Emmett Shear writes: True, Gore won the popular vote he would presumably have got more of the flock, or at least, the government and construction companies. People only tend to damp this effect, at least guesses by pros about where that money comes from ads on other investors doing so because otherwise competitors would take forever in the case of heirs, professors, politicians, and everyone's used to place orders.
His critical invention was a kid that you'd want to sell them technology. I'm not dissing these people make the people working for startups, because it aggregates data from so many trade publications nominally have a lot of reasons American car companies have little to bring corporate bonds to market faster; the point where things start with consumer electronics and to run on the firm's site, they're nice to you. Not only do they decide on the young Henry VIII and was troubled by debts all his life. Distribution of potentially good startups, who've already made the decision.
Maybe that isn't really working bad unit economics, typically and then scale it up because they couldn't afford it. An investor who's seriously interested will already be working to help a society generally is to let yourself feel it mid-sentence, but you get an intro to a clueless audience like that.
But it is dishonest of the country turned its back on industrialization at the start, e.
The need has to be employees, or editions with the buyer's picture on the back of Yahoo, we actively sought out people who'd failed out of the things attributed to Confucius and Socrates resemble their actual opinions. The speed at which point it suddenly stops. And when a startup to engage with slow-moving organizations is to write every component yourself, but also very informative essay about why something isn't the last step in this essay I'm talking here about everyday tagging. If not, greater accessibility.
In 1525 he was made a bet: if you hadn't written it? I saw this I used thresholds of.
Especially if they were to work your way up. I managed to find a broad range of topics, comparable in scope to our scholarship though without the spur of poverty are only locally accurate, because those are probably the last step in this respect.
So how do you use that instead of Windows NT? How did individuals accumulate large fortunes in an absolute sense, if you make something hackers use. On the face of it.
But it's telling that it would be to say that it had no idea what's happening as merely not-doing-work. But they've been trained. So far, I preferred to call them whitelists because it depends on a weekend and sit alone and think.

Now Comes The Other Big Challenge With Coronavirus Vaccines: Delivering 10 Billion Doses Quickly
A Lufthansa worker uses a warehouse tug to move two containers – an Opticooler and an Envirotainer – … [] that will be used to keep Covid-19 vaccine at ultracold temperatures as low as -94 to -114 degrees Fahrenheit during transport aboard cargo planes or in the bellies of passenger jets. (THOMAS LOHNES/AFP via Getty Images)
Big airplanes carrying Pfizer and BioNTech’s Covid-19 vaccine could go wheels up before midnight Thursday if the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, as expected, grants it emergency use authorization following a final hearing Thursday.
The research, development, testing and approval of a vaccine for a disease that no one had ever heard of prior to its first appearance in China a year ago was so complex and fast that it qualifies as a modern miracle. Yet every bit as miraculous are the incredibly complex and enormous logistics challenges that drug makers, airlines, cargo handling companies, multiple government agencies and task forces, and the U.S. military collectively have had to conquer in order to get the vaccines to not only 340 million Americans but ultimately to all 7.8 billion inhabitants of planet Earth.
Indeed, when trying to put their current undertaking into terms that can be understood by the average person, the logistics, cargo and transportation experts who’ve been working since spring to create and execute the multi-layered and multi-faceted Covid-19 vaccine transportation plan inevitably refer to the same historical landmark.
“It’s the biggest logistics project since World War II,” says William Boesch, a veteran airline cargo executive who consulted with the U.S. Department of Defense on handling the transportation of war fighters and all their gear and food during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Boesch, who was president of American Airlines’ cargo division in the 1990s and before that ran Pan American World Airways global cargo operations, is now president of Cargo Logistic Solutions, a consulting firm, through which he’s advising President Trump’s Operation Warp Speed team.
“By the numbers, this is the largest logistics move in history, at least of a single type of product being shipped within a designated and critical time frame,” Boesch adds, referring to the more than 10 billion doses of vaccine that eventually will be transported around the globe. “Think of this stuff as liquid gold. Everybody wants it, and they want it now.”
As is the case any time large quantities of actual gold must be transported, the transportation of such a high-value pharmaceutical product requires extraordinary safety and handling procedures. Every potential point of failure or compromise along the very long and complex supply chain – from the point of manufacture to delivery to the end user – has had to be studied carefully and carefully mapped out. In fact, transporting this kind of “liquid gold” is far more complex than even moving tons of actual gold, which currently is worth around $1,870 per ounce.
To be sure, a single dose of the vaccine – which because of government supports will cost Americans little or nothing out of their pockets – isn’t going to be worth nearly that much. Still, the incredible demand for vaccines means that all shipments will have to be guarded every step of the way from their points of origin to the planes and trucks on which they’ll travel, and to the temporary storage facilities set up at airports and the hospitals, clinics and other locations where the doses will be delivered. Planners are taking the threats of insider pilferage and industrial-scale theft equally seriously.
But how to maintain the security of the small vials of vaccine fluid is really one of the easier challenges with which the logisticians have had to wrestle.
Unlike ordinary cargo, or even ordinary pharmaceuticals that can be transported with only modest or even no worries about the temperature inside aircraft bellies, the first vaccine scheduled for approval by the FDA, developed by Pfizer and BioNTech, has to be maintained in a very narrow band of ultracold temperatures between -70 and -80 degrees Celsius. That’s equal to -94 to -114 degrees Fahrenheit. And that’s a major challenge for commercial jets, which in nearly all cases are equipped to keep relatively small amounts of cargo at temperatures around -20 degrees Celsius (or -4 degrees Fahrenheit).
A second vaccine, from Moderna, that’s expected to get FDA approval in about a week, also will have to be kept very cold, but only at around that -20 degrees Celsius mark, meaning air carriers won’t need to take additional steps and get special approval to carry it. Yet, the sheer volume of such very cold or even ultracold pharmaceuticals that will be shipped to fight Covid-19 will way exceed the capacity of the world’s entire fleet of commercial aircraft.
The International Air Transport Association earlier this year estimated that to meet global demand for Covid-19 vaccines, airlines will need to fill the equivalent of 8,000 Boeing 747s to do the job. In response, many involved with the planning of vaccine deliveries scoffed at such a low estimate. And that’s before you even consider that no airplane is likely ever to be allowed carry a full load of nothing but Covid-19 vaccines, which are classified as a dangerous pharmaceutical product and therefore are subject to tight volume shipping limits.
For safety reasons commercial planes are only authorized to use relatively small portions of their cargo capacity for very cold or ultracold cargo. That’s because to keep products that cold shippers must use frozen carbon dioxide, better known as dry ice. The Federal Aviation Administration, which certifies U.S.-made planes like those produced by Boeing, and the European Aviation Safety Agency, a unit of the European Union and the certifier of planes made by Airbus, strictly limit the amount of dry ice that planes can have aboard. That’s because when dry ice CO2 “sublimates,” or transforms from the frozen state it does not melt and become water but rather once again becomes the deadly gas CO2. Cold storage compartments or containers inside planes have be vented to prevent a dangerous build up of CO2 from decaying dry ice. If enough CO2 were to accumulate in a cargo container the pressure inside that container could become high enough to cause an explosion.
However, that venting process also presents a second level danger all its own. If the level of CO2 inside a plane were ever to reach a high enough concentration to push the oxygen level inside the plane below the 20% mark, people onboard would go to sleep and die from CO2 poisoning. Even on all cargo flights that’s still a problem because the humans flying the plane in the cockpit would suffer the same fate.
To prevent that from happening airlines typically are restricted to small amounts of dry ice on planes, though the actual amount varies by airplane size, type and venting capabilities. Recently U.S. carriers, ranging from the big cargo carriers like UPS and FedEx to “integrated” airlines that carry passengers plus nearly 60% of all air cargo in this nation in their bellies, have sought temporary waivers from the Federal Aviation Administration to increase the amount of dry ice they’re permitted to carry on various aircraft types.
Those carriers have built such waiver requests around three main points. One, they note that because dry ice does not contain water and therefore does not “melt,” it cannot cause shorting out of exposed wires or cause planes’ metal skins or structural members to rust. Second, they argue that they long have had a great safety track record in handling cold cargo and are experts in the safe use of dry ice. And, third, they contend that new, advanced ultracold cargo containers that can track not only the constancy of the temperature inside the container but also any buildup of CO2 outside – containers now being acquired by many airlines, make it possible for them to carry much more dry ice than before and do so with very high levels of safety.
Additionally, the Operation Warp Speed logistics planners have worked with the pharmaceutical industry to design not only those new ultracold cargo containers, but also new packaging to carry the vaccine vials themselves.
Boesch explained that Operation Warp Speed boosted the development of what are being referred to as “pizza boxes.” They’re made of a special material designed to help maintain cold temperatures and that are about the same shape and size of a large pizza delivery box. Each contains 970 vials, and each vial contains enough vaccine for five doses.
Six such “pizza boxes” will fit in one large pack, which also includes a vaccination kit with items like needles, surgical masks, gloves, gowns and face shields for use by those administering the shots. Each pack weighs about 50 pounds. So, given limits on the carriage of dry ice, about 20 such packs can be loaded onto a plane the size of a Boeing 767, Boesch said.
Thus, such a load would contain well over 100,000 doses of vaccine; enough to vaccinate every one in, say, South Bend, Indiana, or Norman, Oklahoma. That’s a lot of vaccine doses, but still only a tiny fraction of what’s needed to end the global pandemic.
Nevertheless, Boesch, however, is confident that the distribution plan will be able to deliver enough doses – at least within the U.S. – that “Everyone who wants to be vaccinated will have access to the vaccine by the end of the first quarter or April of next year,” he said.
“Now, remember, in many cases it will take two doses. So, at that point around the end of the first quarter we will be starting the second round of deliveries. But there’s some evidence that people who get the vaccine are developing antibodies even before they get the second round. So, I think we should see some significant positive impacts on the course of the pandemic here by spring.”
Along the way there have been other challenges. For starters, the expected, albeit relatively short term demand for dry ice will exceed the nation’s combined dry ice production capacity. UPS, the big package shipping company based in Atlanta, took on the challenge of building a big new dry ice manufacturing facility at the company’s giant “Worldport” cargo support facility in Louisville, Kentucky, that’s capable of producing 1,200 pounds of dry ice per hour.
Keeping the vaccine doses cold isn’t the only, or even necessarily the biggest challenge. The vaccines have only a shelf life of about five days. Thus, they must be tracked meticulously throughout the entire journey from the manufacturing facility to final injection to make sure the doses are still viable when injected.
In most cases, the vaccines’ shelf life can be extended to 15 days by replacing evaporated dry ice with more dry ice. But that can only be done twice, with each replacement adding five days to the product’s shelf life. Therefore, the logistics plan calls for every dose to pass through one or more stations at departure or arrival airports, and or at hospitals or other medical facilities, where technicians can add more dry ice or remove spoiled doses from circulation.
Even that, however, isn’t without risk. If done improperly, such a check could cause the seals on the pizza boxes to break, meaning the vaccine inside would have at most only five days of shelf life. And, because the dry ice replenishment process normally would not occur until the fourth of fifth day after the vaccine was manufactured, such breakage almost certainly would lead to quick spoilage of the protein-based liquid inside.
Beyond that, vaccine shipments also face the standard risks of any product being shipped and handled by airport ground equipment, sorting machines and workers (who themselves must take precautions because of the extremely cold temperatures at which the vaccines have to be kept). Shipments of vaccines also will have to be loaded in and out of airplanes, transferred to conveyor systems and trucks, moved into temporary storage systems and then to medical facilities and pharmacies. Each movement introduces some added risk of spoilage or breakage.
Pharmaceutical giant McKesson, which has a strong reputation for using software and technology to move pharmaceuticals quickly and accurately around the world, is managing the scheduling and U.S. delivery network for the vaccines. While an estimated 70% of the vaccine doses destined for the U.S. market will travel at least part way by air, thousands of trucks also will be required to move the vaccines from airports to other storage or inoculation facilities in the vaccination network. In smaller nations, where distances aren’t nearly as long and populations aren’t nearly as spread out as in the U.S., trucks will play the primary role in transporting the vaccines, not planes.
In fact, trucks this week began hauling the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine from a new production facility in Belgium to the United Kingdom via the “Chunnel” under the English Channel. The U.K. approved the vaccine late last week and early this week U.K. residents began getting their inoculations.  Previously, Russia approved another Covid-19 vaccine and began administering to its own residents, though that vaccine is not being used in other nations because of the level of secrecy maintained around its development.
But whether they are moved by air, by road or even by rail, the various Covid-19 vaccines face a number of other, mostly legal hurdles for which the delivery logisticians have had to plan.
“Once the deliveries reach your state, it’s up to the governors of the individual states to determine how they’re distributed and who will get them first, and second and third,” Boesch said.
Army General Gustav Perna, the chief operating officer of Operation Warp Speed, at a press briefing … [] at the White House on Nov. 19. (BRENDAN SMIALOWSKI/AFP via Getty Images)
“And internationally we’ve got a lot more problems to deal with. Customs is one big one. When these shipments go through customs those customs officers are going to want to look into everything to make sure no contraband is being smuggled in there,” he explained. “But once they open the box, the vaccine inside will only have a very short time of viability. And every country is different, so we’ve been having to deal with a lot of different countries about how to do that without ruining the vaccines,” he said. “And we’ve been having to do it during a pandemic when a lot of countries have travel bans and quarantines in place, or very limited air service.”
Boesch said dealing with the threat of pilferage – always a problem in the international cargo business – has taken up a lot of planners’ time and attention, as they focus on how to keep the vaccines both secure and viable as they go through the customs clearance and temporary storage process upon arrival in other nations.
“And duty. How will countries charge and collect duties on these vaccines? I tell you, the Warp [Speed] team has done an outstanding job of going over every little detail,” he added. Gen. Gustave Perna, the four-star general who led the U.S. Army Material Command prior to being named earlier this year as chief operating officer of Operation Warp Speed, “deserves a medal and ton of credit for putting together this team and pushing very hard to make this happen so quickly under very challenging circumstances,” Boesch added.
Despite early suggestions that the Warp Speed virus delivery plan would rely heavily on U.S. Air Force and other military cargo aircraft, Boesch says he now expects the military to play only a small role in getting the vaccines to the public. They will be used to transport vaccine to foreign military installations so that U.S. personnel can get quick access to doses without having to wait for it all to pass through civilian customs procedures. And in special cases where doses cannot be delivered any other way, either domestically or in foreign nations, military cargo planes could be called on as a last resort.
“But every country is supposed to be in charge of getting the vaccines from the manufacturers to their countries and out to their citizens,” Boesch said. “The U.S. military’s cargo capabilities are unequaled. The Air Force operates the largest cargo fleet in the world. But they have their own missions to operate, so they will be used in most cases as only a backup or emergency means of delivery, similar to the way they would be used to deliver supplies someplace after a natural disaster.”

25, 94, and 99 please!!
Thank you! :)
25. Headcanon about X character.
I’ll just do the first headcanon that springs to mind forthis one:
As a schoolboy,Francis used to get up to some pretty wacky shenanigans, a lot of them aidedboth by Ross and some suspect liquor that some of the boys often managed tosmuggle into the school. After striking up a friendship with George, theseantics began to reduce in number, not only because George, being somewhat shyas a boy and determined to behave well at school as a result of his awarenessof the disparity in class between himself and the other boys, was something ofa calming influence on him in certain ways, but also because he was very goodat getting both himself and his friend out of trouble. This didn’t stop themcompletely, however, and Francis occasionally managed to drag George into someodd antics which they very quickly ended up having to find solutions to.
94. Imagine Poldark characters in modern times. What aboutthem would change the most?
Well, I imagine that the different class and gender politicswould have a significant effect on many of the characters, especially on thosewho are largely motivated by the attitudes of their times, like George, Demelzaand Verity. I can’t see George’s background as a blacksmith’s grandson beingsuch a sore spot for him—or others—in a modern context, since it resultslargely from the far more rigid class system and attitudes towards socialmobility he exists within. Same goes for Demelza, though I think she wouldstill be pretty aware of the difference between herself and the circles that theothers would likely move in. Verity, also, would not be written off as aspinster at twenty five as she is in canon though she might still worry abouther age, and Elizabeth would likely not have to rely so much on the men in herlife to provide for her and her family with the opportunity to earn money forherself. Ross and Francis, as members of the remains of the nobility inCornwall, would likely not be doing too well financially unless they hadcareers or businesses of their own, given that they would not be able to relyon their sources of income in canon since, as far as I’m aware, there aren’tany working mines in Cornwall anymore. In fact, Francis may have to sell partsof Trenwith, or open it and the grounds up to the public as a means of income,as a good deal of modern nobles have done in Britain. Also, with far fastermeans of travel, I doubt they would all stay in Cornwall. George especially, Iimagine, would spend a lot of time off in important places as his businessdemands.
99. What is, in your opinion, Poldark’s most significantmessage? What can we learn from it?
I’m not sure Poldark has any particularly deep messageattached to it. In fact, the messages that do seem to me to be present in thenarrative often irritate me, mainly since they either come across asheavy-handed and overdone (the constant moralising about the poor and starvingbeing one example, although I think that might annoy me less if it weren’tcoming out of Ross’ mouth, since I do technically agree with the message beingput across to a certain extent) or unfairly balanced in favour of certaincharacters when I can’t really see a reason why I should agree with it. Isuppose the lesson I’ve taken from watching the show is that my favourites canbe subject to random character assassination at any moment in order to prop upthe protagonist my frustration with the way a programme is written doesn’tnecessarily diminish my love of its characters (why yes I’m still bitter aboutseries 3).

The atomic age began with a secret test 75 years ago. Meet the last surviving witness.
By Sarah Kaplan, Washington Post, December 1, 2017
Ted Petry’s first job was in a secret laboratory at the University of Chicago, where scientists were trying to split the atom.
It was 1942, and nuclear physics was barely more than an idea discussed in university lecture halls, so the 18-year-old Petry was fuzzy on the details. He didn’t ask for clarity. He was just a day laborer on the project, and he did what he was told. He liked the job mainly for its proximity to his parents’ home on the South Side of Chicago and for the monthly salary.
After the experiment succeeded, the scientists packed up their equipment and moved to other facilities—Argonne, Los Alamos. Petry, too, sought new work, first on a freighter on Lake Michigan, then in a factory making airplane engines. When the war ended, he got married and had four kids. “I went on with my life,” he said.
Petry didn’t think much about his old job until two decades later, when he was invited to an anniversary event at the White House. As President John F. Kennedy spoke about the “historic occasion” and the need to make sure it was applied “in the direction of the progress of mankind,” Petry’s memories coalesced.
The atomic age was born in that underground lab, and he was there to see it.
Now 93, Petry is the last surviving witness of the world’s first controlled nuclear reaction, 75 years ago Saturday.
On that otherwise ordinary December afternoon, cadmium control rods were removed from a pile of uranium spheres encased in graphite bricks. Neutrons fizzed off the uranium and bombarded other atoms, causing their nuclei to split. The fission, in turn, released more neutrons and sparked more reactions in a self-sustaining chain.
The energy generated wasn’t sufficient to power a lightbulb. But in three years, the same technology, packed inside bombs, would level two cities. Today, experts measure humankind’s proximity to global catastrophe based partly on the number of nuclear weapons in nations’ arsenals.
Petry was told none of this when he was recruited from Tilden Technical High School, along with his twin brother and several other boys. His employee records describe him as a laboratory assistant who made $94 a month, but he really was more of a “gofer,” he recalled recently, assigned to whatever tasks needed strong arms and quick hands.
Some days, he helped stack bricks of graphite in the 20-foot beehive-shaped “pile” that would form the reactor. Other times he was sent to a lab downtown to collect small containers of uranium for the project. He rode the streetcar with the radioactive material in his pocket, until a doctor noticed that his red-blood-cell count was getting low. The university scientists then provided him with a station wagon and a radiation-proof lead box.
The young men working on the project came and went. As World War II intensified, several, including Petry’s twin brother, were drafted and sent overseas.
“Nothing was said about, ‘Hey, we’re working on a secret thing, these guys should be deferred,’” Petry said. “It was just a plain job that you went to and did what they asked you.”
Of course, the scientists running the experiment were keenly sensitive to what was at stake. Three years earlier, Albert Einstein and Leo Szilard, a Hungarian émigré who first conceived the idea of generating power via nuclear reactions, penned a letter to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt urging the United States government to invest in nuclear research. At that point, no human had ever controlled a nuclear chain reaction, let alone weaponized it. But Einstein and Szilard were certain that Germany was actively pursuing an atomic bomb.
By 1942, a team that included Szilard and Nobel Prize winners Enrico Fermi and Arthur Compton had assembled in Chicago to build the world’s first nuclear reactor. When a labor strike stalled work in the Argonne Forest, 25 miles from the city, Compton suggested that the pile be moved to one of the squash courts beneath the University of Chicago’s long-ago abandoned football field.
Compton, a professor there, didn’t tell the university’s president about the project even though a blunder could have been catastrophic in the densely populated area. Fermi was confident he could control the reaction; if anything went awry, he told his colleagues, “I will walk away—leisurely.”
Working in 12-hour shifts, the team labored around the clock to construct the pile. The black dust of the graphite blocks formed a slick coat on the men’s skin and the squash court’s floor. The unheated workrooms were bitterly cold, but the mood was feverish.
In a 1982 article for the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, physicist Albert Wattenberg recalled grim conversations about what would happen if they succeeded—and the consequences if they didn’t. He remembered fellow physicist Alvin Graves showing up several hours early one morning for his shift, explaining “he just couldn’t sleep. He felt the Nazis were working, that they were pushing ahead to get there before us,” Wattenberg wrote. “We were in a real race and he felt he shouldn’t be taking a day off.”
On Dec. 2, they were finally ready. Petry and 48 others crowded onto the squash court, where the pile now stood 20 feet high. A three-man “suicide squad” was ready to douse it with a cadmium solution that would stop the reaction if something went wrong. Fermi positioned himself at the base, calling out orders and making calculations with a slide rule.
With the cadmium control rods removed, the neutron count began to rise, until the reaction was self-sustaining. The pile had gone critical.
No one cheered or applauded, Petry recalled. But for the steady clack of the Geiger counters and the movement of detectors, there was no outward sign that anything had happened. After 28 minutes, when the radiation risk from the reaction became unsafe, Fermi ordered the control rods dropped back into the pile.
And then it was over, Petry said. History had been made.
Eugene Paul Wigner, a theoretical physicist who helped build the pile and would later win a Nobel Prize for his work on the atomic nucleus, pulled a bottle of Chianti from a paper bag. Everybody got a sip. The mood was solemn, Wigner later wrote. Though they had no proof the experiment could be harnessed for military purposes, the scientists could imagine the formidable potential they’d unlocked.
Then all 49 witnesses signed their names on the bottle’s wrapper—even the 18-year-old “gofer,” who had only a vague inkling of what had just been accomplished.
This year, for the 75th anniversary of the experiment, the university invited Petry to revisit his old stomping grounds. The squash courts where the pile was built were long ago demolished, the campus utterly transformed. A large bronze sculpture marks the historic site.
“It was the start of all—of the atomic world, I guess you’d say that,” he noted. “Everything proceeded from that experiment.”
Petry is diffident about his own role. He doesn’t give talks about the project or spend time contemplating how splitting the atom transformed the world. “I was just a part of it, a small part of it,” he said.
In the National Archives of Chicago, Wigner’s Chianti bottle can be found in an old cardboard box. Many of the names on its paper wrapper have faded with time. But right in front, in big block letters, the words “TED PETRY” are still visible.

2020 NFL Mock Draft 3.0 - With Trades
This mock is done using the latest news and rumors as well as my very own proprietary consensus big board, which aggregates all the top big boards around the internet into one board. To see the board, sign up as a Patreon for as little as a dollar per month here.
Cincinatti Bengals Joe Burrow QB LSU
This is essentially already a done deal. The Bengals haven’t had meetings so discussions will take place but from everything I’ve heard, you can lock this in.
Washington Redskins Chase Young EDGE Ohio State
This is also essentially a forgone conclusion. Not much to really debate. Chase is the top prospect this year. We all saw what Bosa did for the 49ers. The Redskins are taking Young.
TRADE: Miami Dolphins Tua Tagovailoa QB Alabama Lions receive Dolphins picks 5 and 26
There is a lot of talk that the Dolphins will want to load up and ensure they get their guy, Tua. The Lions are an ideal team to trade back just 2 spots. It ensures they still get an elite player and secures a 2nd 1st round pick.
As for Miami, they can ensure they get a QB and still have their 2nd 1st round pick to help build the team around Tua.
New York Giants Jeffrey Okudah CB Ohio State
As much as I’d love to go in another direction, our trio of Sam Beal, Corey Ballentine, and Deandre Baker might be the worst in all of football. All 3 are 1st year guys and Beal and Ballentine missed a combined 13 games so there could be some progress there but this unit is straight up garbage. We need help badly.
Detroit Lions (Via MIA) Derrick Brown DL Auburn
Picking up an additional 1st round pick means we can go BPA here and that would be Derrick Brown, a guy that will help out a struggling DL and a line that will likely lose Mike Daniels and possibly Damon Harrison who is said to be contemplating retirement.
LA Chargers Justin Herbert QB Oregon
Rivers has already packed his stuff and moved to Florida so a reunion with the Chargers is very close to 0. There is some talk they may sign a veteran like Cam or Mariota but that still wouldn’t rule out a QB pick here.
Carolina Panthers Andrew Thomas OT Georgia
Simmons makes some sense with Luke leaving but Thomas is being talked about as one of the best tackles in the last decade. This is a pure talent pick.
As a side note, if I had a QB in reach I would go QB, but I don’t.
Arizona Cardinals Jedrick Wills OT Alabama
Again I was looking hard at Simmons but we need to help our QB and the OL is sub par and aging. Let’s actually get a top tier blind side blocker.
Jacksonville Jaguars Isaiah Simmons LB Clemson
The Jaguars are the beneficiaries of the two tackles that went and can now get a top LB. Assuming they put him at LB… the guy does everything.
Cleveland Browns Tristan Wirfs OT Iowa
The Browns OL colapsed in on itself like a dying star in 2019. The right side of the line is the worst part of it which is exactly where Wirfs will slot in.
TRADE: Indianapolis Colts Jerry Jeudy WR Alabama Colts offer up Picks 112 (4th) and 171 (6th)
Tony Pauline said he expects the Jets to trade back. A likely partner, with Jeudy on the board, would be a WR hungry team that wants to jump the Raiders who 100% would take him.
TY Hilton is 30 as spent half the year hurt, Funchess is on the way out, and Chester Rodgers and Dontrell Inman are also free agents.
Las Vegas Raiders Ceedee Lamb WR Oklahoma
It might seem insignificant with the Raiders getting a WR anyway but I’m willing to bet the Raiders are seething. Happy, but seething.
New York Jets (Via IND) A.J. Epenesa EDGE Iowa
There’s some talk about an Epenesa slide due to him being a better 3-4 DE than 4-3 DE but 13 is slide enough and the Jets are a 3-4 defense so it works out however we choose to use him. Which is great cause we need some pass rush help.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Javon Kinlaw DL South Carolina
Suh will likely be a cap casualty for the Bucs and finding a replacement will be a high priority. They may look to QB like Eason later but not here and I would also keep my eye on RB if they don’t go after Lev Bell… but again not at 14 overall.
Denver Broncos Kristian Fulton CB LSU
Even if Chris Harris stays (unlikely) he’s beginning to fall off at 30 years old. Behind him is no real talent at all. Fangio needs his guy.
Atlanta Falcons K’Lavon Chaisson EDGE LSU
The Falcons have to find a way to get to the QB and Tak McKinley doesn’t seem to be the solution.
Dallas Cowboys Grant Delpit S LSU
The Cowboys have been scratching and clawing for safeties so I’m going to stay the course here. How FA goes for the Cowboys though makes a big difference, especially the guys they choose NOT to keep, but for the information I have now I’m going with Delpit.
Miami Dolphins (Via PIT) Mekhi Becton OT Louisville
I don’t know why they traded away their OT but now they need one to protect their new QB. Enter Becton who should be an upgrade over Davenport.
Las Vegas Raiders (Via CHI) Kenneth Murray LB Oklahoma
The linebackers are a mess in Oakland. We tried Burfict but that ended exactly how you would expect. We need to make an effort to get talent at LB.
TRADE: Green Bay Packers Henry Ruggs WR Alabama Jaguars receive picks 94 (3rd) and 172 (6th via Ty Montgomery)
I promise this isn’t just because I’m a Packers fan. The Jags have needs that fit much better later in the round so a trade back makes sense. Henry Ruggs is 13th on the board so the value is ridiculous. The Saints make sense but they have no draft capital. The Ravens already have a burner so Ruggs makes no sense, so the next logical team is the Packers who give up a 3rd and their extra 6th to move up and get a legit deep threat but one that’s also a talented receiver, unlike the Janis, MVS, and Davis squad.
Ruggs has legitimate Tyreek Hill upside.
Philadelphia Eagles Trevon Diggs CB Alabama
The eagles are going heavy after corners and are rumored to be looking in FA but until they actually pull the trigger, I’m looking for a corner in the draft.
Buffalo Bills Tyler Biadasz IOL Wisconsin
It’s a bit of a reach on my board which usually means I’m looking to trade back but I don’t want to lose Biadasz here. our OL needs help and Quinton Spain is a 28 year old free agent that I have no intention of paying to stick around.
New England Patriots Laviska Shenault WR Colorado
The Pats took a WR in the first round last year but still need help there. They were also the only team with the ability to make Cordarrelle Patterson look like a legitimate weapon and could probably do some special things with a guy like Shenault.
New Orleans Saints C.J. Henderson CB Florida
I would love to get a WR2 but we can get that later. Right now I’m looking at a CB group who, outside of Lattimore, are made up of 31 year old Janoris Jenkins, and 3 corners that are currently FAs (Apple, Williams, and Badermosi). The only other guy is Patrick Robinson who spent about as many weeks injured as he did on the field.
TRADE: Kansas City Chiefs D’Andre Swift RB Georgia Vikings receive pick 95 (3rd)
Trading up for a RB seems silly but think about the lack of talent at RB the Chiefs have, how good they would be with an elite RB, and the fact that Swift is our 19th overall player and it becomes somewhat of a no brainer.
The Vikings were pretty desperate to move back to be able to get a player of need at a better value.
Detroit Lions (Via MIA, via HOU) Xavier McKinney S Alabama
I wanted so badly for someone to trade up and take McKinney, who is an unbelievable talent, to make it to 26 but nobody could or would be willing. Instead the Lions let him fall. To think they turn their 1 pick in 2020 into Derrick Brown and Xavier McKinney is pretty remarkable.
They do have a decent pair in Walker and Wilson but Wilson is a 29 year old FA. We’ll probably keep him and look to use one of our safeties to help our garbage LBs.
If you still aren’t sold call him a Quandre Diggs replacement and know that several scouts now have him above Grant Delpit.
Seattle Seahawks Yetur Gross-Matos EDGE Penn State
Trading up for McKinney was a thought but we are on the verge of a pass rush crisis. Even if we can afford to keep Clowney; Ansah, Jackson, Watson, and Jefferson are all free agents in addition to Clowney and Jarran Reed on the interior is a FA.
Literally 7 of our 13 guys along the line are FAs, and 2 of the 6 remaining are only signed through 2020, leaving only Mone, Green, Christmas, and Collier.
Not great Bob.
Baltimore Ravens Tee Higgins WR Clemson
You wouldn’t know it based on offensive production but this WR group is actually kind of terrible. Outside of rookie Hollywood Brown, I’m not sure any of the other guys pass as even mediocre. Pairing Higgins with speedster Brown in this offense is just a horrifying thought.
Tennessee Titans Jordan Love QB Utah State
This isn’t meant to be a Tannehill replacement in year one but let’s face it, if we resign Tannehill it’s not so he can be our guy for 10 years. Love is said to be a little raw and in need of tutelage. Veteran Tannehill will be able to show the kid the ropes and let him take over in a year or so.
As for the lack of quarterbacks in the mock, just know that I am sticking to my board which, despite all the talk of a QB run, nobody seems to want to back it up by putting Love or any other QB’s in the top 25/32 of their boards.
Love is also having a rough start to his Senior Bowl which enhances the feeling he will need to sit which in turn will cause him to slide in the draft.
Jacksonville Jaguars (Via GB) Austin Jackson OT USC
The Jags drafted a stud RB and have let him die on an offense with no OL, no QB, and no WR’s. Supposedly he’s supposed to do everything himself.
With Chark and Minshew now adding a little something, let’s build up this OL and make this a balanced offensive attack in which Fournette can have the opportunity to be a Derrick Henry for the Jags.
Minnesota Vikings Bryce Hall CB Virginia
Giant reach but this is a no brainer. the Vikings need corner help. Maybe I would have budged on a lineman but none of those are available either. Hey, you win some and lose some on these trades, this wasn’t great for value but we still got extra picks.
San Francisco 49ers Jalen Reagor WR TCU
Ya we could pay to keep Emanuel Sanders as he’s about to turn 33 but how about we replace him in the draft with a much cheaper, younger, and faster Jalen Reagor?
