It's on the offense
If the Green Bay Packers hope to go on the kind of run they went on last year, the offense needs to take off. Penalties and drops were better against the Bears, but the red-zone offense is still too inefficient. Plus, Jordan Love badly needs a turnover free game.
Defensive needs
The pass rush, if we had one, would be the difference making factor that could change things for the defense. Some blame the Hafley 3-4, some blame underperforming Rashan Gary, Kenny Clark and Lukas Van Ness and Quay Walker, to which I say yes. All of the above.
The wild card for the defense is Jaire Alexander. This is a different defense when he’s healthy, which seems to be about 40% of the time.
It’s also time to test other options at middle linebacker. Maybe Quay Walker’s lack of instincts in the base defense and against the run could be masked at weak side linebacker. At this point, who knows what the coaching logic is for keeping him in the lineup. Maybe as a nickel or dime linebacker in coverage his skills would make sense, but otherwise he seems like a liability.
Offensive spark
Love played well against the Bears. But not well enough. His red zone overthrow was a good decision paired with a bad pass. Had his throw to Tucker Kraft late in the 2nd quarter been on the mark, the Packers are up 14 or 10-to-3 and there’s no telling what that would have done for the Packers pressure defense. Instead, another gut-punch pick gave the Bears life and kept the game in doubt until the fortunate blocked field goal as time ran out.
This defense is missing pass rush juice. Without that, they need a lead to enable pressure and, hopefully, turnover worthy plays. That’s the complimentary football they need to win games against upcoming opponents that are better than Chicago.
The next three games against San Francisco, Miami and Detroit will be telling. If the Packers can get leads and turnovers, they’re good enough to win any or all of those games. If the offense remains choppy, and unreliable in the red zone, they could just as easily lose all three.
A path to a legitimate playoff run is paved with offensive symmetry and a defense playing with leads. Short of that, the Packers are a team that will scramble for a fringe playoff spot with little hope for a deep run.

Packers can't lose to the Bears
As much as they tried to lose today’s game to the Chicago Bears, the Green Bay Packers simply couldn’t do it. No matter how hard they try, the Bears just cannot beat the Packers. Today’s loss has to be one of the most painful in the100-plus years of this rivalry. The Packers had no business winning this game, and yet it happened. Jordan Love led another game-winning drive and literally took things into his own hands on the game’s last two plays.
Love’s touchdown run gave the Packers a one-point lead after the conversion failed but left way too much time on the clock for the Packer’s defense, who couldn’t get off the field all day. They are living on the edge and with the 49ers, Dolphins and Lions on deck, that is a scary place to be.
It could have been over at halftime
The Packers offense started out well. After taking the opening kickoff the Packers went 65 yards for a touchdown. Love hit Jayden Reed on a free play and the Packers were off and running. The Packers held the Bears to a field goal on their opening drive and after exchanging punts the Packers were about to put the Bears away with a second-and-one at the Bears’ five yard line. Not to be. An ineligible man downfield penalty and a horrible five yard loss on some kind of power end round left third-and-eleven at the 15. As has been his wont, Love throws off his back foot off target and his picked off at the one on the next play. The Bears naturally marched right down the field for the their first touchdown in three weeks.
The Bears’ new offense picked apart the Packers’ defense to the tune of 391 yards and 36:21 time of possession. How they held them to 19 points is beyond me. The Bears really did simplify things for Caleb Williams this week, a lot dinking and dunking so it took a while to drive the field.
On offense the Packers did look better. Love is clearly back to full strength as evidenced by his two runs to give the Packers the lead late. And Christian Watson had a huge game, including a 60-yard catch and run to setup the go ahead touchdown. Josh Jacobs continues to be a beast in the ground game. The Packers were inside the Bears’ red zone in five of their seven possessions but only scored three times. That has to be fixed.
A win is a win and it’s on to San Francisco, who lost today and is now 5-5. It would be nice to beat them and maybe not have to face them in the playoffs this year. But we’ll worry about that later. Time to read all the Chicago newspapers again. Two weeks a year they are glorious.

New Post has been published on https://www.packernet.com/blog/2024/11/11/my-take-at-midseason/
My take at midseason
The Green Bay Packers hit the midseason with a 6-3 record but are coming off an ugly loss to a division rival. If the season ended today the Packers would be the seventh seed just as they were last year. Of course last year at this time the Packers were just the opposite, 3-6 and not looking one bit like a playoff contender. A late run propelled them to the divisional round of the playoffs and raised expectations for this year.
In the face of those expectations it’s been quite an eventful first half of the season with the Packers. They have had to overcome the loss of quarterback Jordan Love to two games early in the season and for a half two weeks ago against Jacksonville. In his stead newly acquired Malik Willis went 3-0. On defense the Packers have turned into a turnover machine and lead the NFL. New coordinator Jeff Hafley has his unit playing more aggressively and seems to be improving weekly.
So why do I not feel good about this team’s chance going forward? Let me count the ways.
Jordan Love is a disaster waiting to happen. Love is 3-3 in games he started and finished and has not looked at all like the QB who three 18 touchdowns to one interception down the stretch last year. If that version of Love doesn’t return the Packers are going to struggle to beat last year’s 9-8 record. The interceptions need to stop now.
While improving weekly it seems, the Packers’ defense is still not quite ready for prime time. In the two biggest games of the year they failed to make any kind of statement. After getting shredded by the Vikings they did play better against the Lions. But coming out of halftime they needed to stop the Lions to keep the Packers in the game and they couldn’t do it. They also let the Rams and Jags rally late in what should have been easy wins.
The schedule gets significantly harder and almost all in prime time. The Packers play four straight night games starting on Thanksgiving. The Packers will either sink or swim with all eyes on them. Next week the Packers get the Bears in Chicago and while the Bears are a pathetic team they will find a way to play the Packers tough. San Fran, Miami and at Detroit follow. 6-7 or 7-6 is a real possibility.
Looking to enhance your NFL betting this year? The famous betting site Operabola offers an amazing betting experience with a variety of the best games. Operabola intrigues many football gambling lovers by combining football betting and inventive slot games. With attractive graphics and interesting features, this website offers the best selection of football slots.
So are they still Super Bowl Contenders?
The Packers are certainly capable of running the table. Maybe two weeks off will get Love back to full health. His injuries certainly affected his play, making him a pocket passer. The offense has a whole does not have an identity, yet. Maybe they do need a number one wide receiver to emerge. Seems like everybody is covered way too much thus far this year. Even with the Packers improved running game with Josh Jacobs.
Looking at it right now I’m going to say the Packers finish 10-7. I’ll give them wins over the Bears, Dolphins, Saints and Bears again. That should get them a wildcard spot but you never know. With the team where it is right now I would be happy with just getting in.

Green Bay Packers Season Recap So Far: The Highs and Lows
As the NFL season progresses, the Green Bay Packers have provided their fans with a mix of excitement and anxiety, showcasing both the potential and the hurdles of the 2024 campaign. Here’s a detailed recap of their season so far, with an analysis of each game week, highlighting the key moments that have defined the Packers’ journey.
Week by Week Breakdown
Week 1: Philadelphia 34, Green Bay 29 The season opener was a tough test against the Eagles, with Jordan Love leaving the game injured. The Packers showcased a resilient spirit, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win against a formidable Philadelphia side led by an impressive performance from Saquon Barkley.
Week 2: Green Bay 16, Indianapolis 10 A win that was hard-earned, primarily through a ground-heavy game. Malik Willis stepped in for the injured Jordan Love, and Josh Jacobs carried a significant load, marking a victory that balanced the early setback from week 1.
Week 3: Green Bay 30, Tennessee 14 Malik Willis showed he could handle the starting role, leading the Packers to a solid victory with support from a staunch defensive performance, highlighted by a pick-six from Jaire Alexander.
Week 4: Minnesota 31, Green Bay 29 A close defeat in a high-stakes game saw Jordan Love struggling with accuracy, possibly due to his knee injury. Despite a valiant comeback attempt, defensive lapses allowed the Vikings to cling to a narrow win.
Week 5: Green Bay 24, L.A. Rams 19 The Packers’ defense stood out, with Xavier McKinney intercepting a pass for the fifth consecutive game. The team’s ability to force turnovers was a crucial element in overcoming the Rams.
Week 6: Green Bay 34, Arizona 13 Jordan Love returned to form, throwing four touchdowns and demonstrating deep pass capabilities that hinted at his full recovery and potential. The return of Romeo Doubs also added a spark to the receiving corps.
Week 7: Green Bay 24, Houston 22 In a nail-biter, the Packers edged out Houston with a last-minute field goal by newcomer Brandon McManus. This win was particularly significant as it came against a team with a winning record, setting a different tone for the quality of Green Bay’s victories.
Week 8: Green Bay 30, Jaguars 27 The Packers win another nail-biter, again with a game-winning field goal by McManus. The Packers blew a two score lead in the fourth quarter after losing Jordan Love to injury. But Malik Willis threw a beauty to Jayden Reed with less than two minutes to go to set up McManus. Willis is 3-0 in games played this year.
Week 9: Detroit 24, Green Bay 14  No nail-biter here. The Packers were destroyed by the Lions. Love returned from injury but threw another terrible pick-six that sealed the Packers’ fate late in the first half. The Lions went up 24-3 to start the third quarter and it was game over. The Packers fall to 0-2 in the division.
Analysis
The Packers’ season has been a rollercoaster, marked by key injuries and thrilling comebacks. The team’s performance has notably improved as Jordan Love finds his rhythm post-injury, and the defense steps up to capitalize on opponents’ mistakes. However, inconsistencies, particularly in special teams and pass defense, highlight areas needing attention as the season progresses.
Navigating the Odds: The Betting Angle
As the NFL season unfolds, the conversations around the Green Bay Packers extend beyond the field and into the realms of sports betting, where the over under NFL bets captivate both seasoned and novice bettors alike.
These discussions aren’t limited to traditional media; they thrive in the digital age through various Packers-focused podcasts. These platforms dissect every play, decision, and future matchup, naturally weaving in betting odds and fan expectations into each episode. This integration of sports betting into daily fan discussions not only enriches the fan experience but also enhances the strategic appreciation of the game, as listeners and viewers engage with the nuances of NFL betting while rallying behind the Packers.
Conclusion
As we look towards the rest of the season, the Packers are positioned to make significant strides. The integration of sports betting and media coverage has indeed added a layer of excitement and analysis, broadening the dialogue around each game. With a solid core and emerging talents, Green Bay is poised for a potentially deep playoff run, aiming not just to compete, but to excel in a fiercely competitive NFC North.
For fans and analysts alike, the Packers offer much to discuss, debate, and anticipate. Each game week brings new stories, and as always, the heart-stopping moments that make NFL football irresistibly compelling.

New Post has been published on https://www.packernet.com/blog/2024/11/04/beating-themselves/
Beating themselves
It was a game of strange contrasts.
Jared Goff threw for 145 yards, while Jordan Love had 273. The vaunted Detroit running game had 138-yards, roughly equal to the Green Bay ground game. The Packers defense gave up only 17-points to a team that’s scored over 40 and 50 points in recent games. Yet, Detroit won by 10, and the game didn’t feel that close.
The Packers have plenty of talent to play with Detroit and the best teams in the league. But let’s not kid ourselves. Detroit beat Green Bay convincingly, while not playing close to their best game–because they didn’t have to. All they had to do was let Green Bay self-destruct.
Talent/Execution
The Packers committed 10-penalties, mostly in key moments. Green Bay receivers dropped multiple passes, many of which could have been first downs or scores. The ultimate gut punch came late in the first half when Love threw an ill-advised pass on 2nd and 1. The pick-six interception all but sealed their fate. Like a few of his other critical interceptions, the smart choice would have been to throw it away, but Love tried to make a play when he just didn’t need to.
When it comes to pure talent, there’s not much difference between the top 6-8 teams in the NFL. Green Bay is part of that elite group. But talent doesn’t equate to winning. Teams like Detroit, Kansas City and Baltimore aren’t making the unforced errors, or make fewer of them, than have riddled Green Bay in 2024.
Mistakes and missteps
It comes down to consistent coaching that teaches players the right and wrong thing combined with players sustaining their concentration to make those right choices as they do their job. The more coaches and players execute those fundamentals and maintain that concentration, the fewer penalties, dropped balls, missed assignments and logic defying turnovers. It sounds so simple, but with 53-players and 15-20 coaches there are many human variables that can screw up the outcome.
The Packers head into the bye at 6-3, in the thick of playoff contention. They have enough talent. But at the moment, their fundamentals and concentration are only good enough to beat weaker opponents, but not good enough to hold up against top tier opponents. Is it the coaches or players jobs to fix? Yes, both.

New Post has been published on https://www.packernet.com/blog/2024/11/03/another-big-game-another-big-flop-by-the-packers/
Another big game, another big flop by the Packers
It’s beginning to look like the Green Bay Packers might have overpaid for their quarterback of the future. Nine weeks in and a 6-3 record that looks a lot better on paper than it really is. Jordan Love has been anything but the franchise QB they thought they were getting. Can he still be? Of course he can. But not if he keeps making boneheaded plays like he did again today in the Packers 24-14 loss to the Detroit Lions.
Love looked like he should not have been playing. He was off target and threw yet another unbelievably dumb pick-six that essentially ended the game in the final minute of the first half. The Lions went up 17-3 at that point and then 24-3 to open the second half and it was game over.
The main reason for the loss, however, was the Packers endless stream of mistakes that never get corrected. Week after week they drop passes and commit stupid penalty after stupid penalty. When there is no accountability for making a mistake they continue to happen. It is the coaches responsibility to hold players accountable and head coach Matt LaFleur is simply not doing his job.
Defense did its job
The Packers’ defense played fairly well. They only gave up two touchdown drives and held the highest scoring team in the league to 17 points. The other seven was a gift from Love. Getting a stop to open the third quarter, however, could have changed the game and once again they failed when needed the most. All in all, though, the defense played good enough to win.
The Packers have two weeks to think about their pathetic performance before facing the Bears in Chicago on November 17. The Bears lost today to fall to 4-4 but have New England at home next week so will likely be 5-4 heading into the Packers’ game. The loser will likely be in last place in the division. Yikes.

Winning smart
Contrast the play back-up Packers RB Chris Brooks made late in the Jacksonville game, with Tyrique Stevenson’s play at the end of the Chicago-Washington game. They’re two huge plays that impacted the outcome. One is full of smarts and poise the other, immature, dumb and unprofessional.
Yes, in a game dominated by elite athletes, intelligence matters.
Taking a smart knee
Brooks heady play to take a knee after gaining a first down, rather than go for his first ever NFL touchdown, was brilliant. By taking the knee he forced Jacksonville to burn its last time-out and allowed Green Bay to win it on the last play with a chip shot field goal.
It was only one example of smart play saving the Packers on Sunday.
Devonte Wyatt’s impressive hip-check of Evan Engram on his way to recovering a game changing fumble was also savvy and sharp. Wyatt literally knocked Engram out of the camera shot while he went to dive on the loose ball. That may have been the biggest play of the game that the Packers quickly turned into 7-points.
Later in the 2nd quarter, Packers tight end Tucker Kraft showed off his smarts. Kraft turned a 30ish yard completion into a 67-yard gain by knowing his leverage, angle and size advantage over Jacksonville safety Andre Cisco to squeeze out an extra 30-yard gain.
Intelligence as a trait
Is this great scouting by GM Brian Gutekunst and his scouting team? Are these players just demonstrating the importance of good coaching? Should the players get the credit for showing poise and smarts? Yes to all. In every game, players and coaches make good and bad decisions. We could surely find dumb plays the Packers made against the Jags on Sunday.
Still, it’s hard to understate the value of big plays made possible by exceptionally smart players doing the right thing in the moment. It’s easy to contrast the Packer plays with the bonehead choice made on the last play by Tyrique Stevenson for Chicago. That contrast is telling and made for a fun Sunday.

Packers survive in Jacksonville
It was a hot and humid Florida day and it took everything the Packers had to beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 30-27 today. The Packers lost quarterback Jordan Love to a groin injury in the third quarter and it looks like Love will be missing time for a second time this year. It didn’t matter the first time and it didn’t matter today. Malik Willis simply came in and won the game.
There was no immediate word on the severity of Love’s injury but I can’t see him returning until after the team’s bye week in two weeks. So that would mean Willis would start for the Packers in their showdown for first place in the division next week against the Lions in Lambeau. Not ideal despite his 2-0 record as a starter this year. The Lions are clearly the best team in football right now, as much as it pains me to say it.
Love throws another interception
Before leaving the game Love made sure to throw his weekly interception. This time a really bad one inside the Jags ten yard line. It was a terrible decision trying to force one in to Romeo Doubs. This simply can’t continue when Love returns from injury. The rest of the Packers’ schedule is filled with playoff-caliber teams and those kinds of mistakes will be hard to overcome.
Willis didn’t throw an interception and even led the game-winning drive starting with 1:48 left. On the second play he hit Jayden Reed for a 51-yard catch and run to set up the game winning field goal just like that. He also let two other touchdown drives, one that ended in a 38-yard touchdown run by Josh Jacobs and the other a short one after the Packers recovered a fumble inside the Jags ten yard line.
Defense up and down
After a stellar performance against the Houston Texans last week the Packers’ defense came back to earth a little this week. The defense gave up 390 yards and could not get off the field on two critical fourth quarter drives that let the Jaguars tie the game at 27. They also let the Jaguars go 53 yards in 45 seconds for a field goal right before the end of the first half.
They did intercept Lawrence once and also force a Lawrence fumble, but there is a lot cleanup to do again. The Packers did suffer a few injuries that certainly played a role in the game as well.
It was a much needed win and the Packers move into sole possession of second place in the NFC North after losses by the Bears and Vikings. I hope Love is back for Detroit, but either way, the Lions are going to be tough to beat.

New Post has been published on https://www.packernet.com/blog/2024/10/23/heres-what-happened-the-last-5-times-the-packers-started-5-2/
Here’s What Happened the Last 5 Times the Packers Started 5-2
After a hard-fought but thrilling win over the Houston Texans, the Packers (5-2) have now reeled off three in a row, inserting themselves in the Playoff race, albeit one where they must navigate a brutal-looking NFC North. All four teams in the division have a winning record, and all four teams would qualify for the Playoffs (the Packers, Vikings, and Bears would get wildcards; the Lions top the division) if the season were to end today.
Of course, the season has a long way to run yet. The Packers are looking in good shape to exceed the 10 wins that were projected for them at the beginning of the season, yet there are still questions in several areas for the Packers. Indeed, as those betting on NFL player props will tell you, there’s a sense of inconsistency about several players that has frustrated fans, as well as, undoubtedly, Matt LeFleur. In short, while the Playoffs are looking likely, there’s still a lot for the Packers to work on.
However, instead of looking forward, let’s look back. A 5-2 record is a decent start to the season after seven games. But what happened the last time the Packers began with five wins and a couple of losses? As you will see, it has always led to the Playoffs, but it’s not always a straight road. Let’s dive in:
2020
Final record: 13-3
The Packers’ second season under LeFleur started with a bang, had a few hiccups in the middle, and saw a strong finish for the Packers to secure the No.1 seed position for the NFC. Aaron Rodgers was in tremendous form across the season, securing his third of four MVP awards in a Packers uniform. Hopes were obviously high going into the Playoffs, and the fans began to believe more when the Packers routed the NFL-leading defense of the Rams in the Divisional Round, but a combination of Tom Brady and a dogged Buccaneers defense meant the Packers couldn’t secure a ticket to Super Bowl LV.
2014
Final record: 12-4
The Packers started this one slowly, not able to get their offense going in losses to the Seahawks and Lions, but they soon found their groove across the fall, with Rodgers clicking into gear. By November, in particular, the Packers’ offense looked great, with successive 50+ point winning games over the Bears and Eagles. A hard-fought win over the Cowboys set up a showdown with the Seahawks in the NFC Championship. Fans are painfully aware of what happened next, with the Packers losing despite being 16-0 up at halftime and having a 19-7 lead late in the 4th quarter.
2013
Final record: 8-7-1
After starting the season 1-2, the Packers came out of their Bye Week with a point to prove, reeling off four wins in a row to transform a poor start into a very respectable one. Yet, it should also act as a cautionary tale for Packers fans getting too ahead of themselves this season. After going 5-2, the Packers failed to win in their next five, heading into the final four games with a 5-6-1 record. They did enough to finish the season with three wins from four, sneaking into the wild card game. That would end in disappointment, though, with yet another defeat to the 49ers at an absolutely freezing Lambeau Field that ended the Packers’ season.
2001
For the next 5-2 start, we have to go way back to the start of the 2000s. Defense was on top in the early part of the season, with the Packers only conceding 13 points across the first three games (all wins). Despite beating the Bears twice in the regular season, Chicago (13-3) still pipped the Packers to the NFC Central title. The Wild Card Playoffs represent a crucial point in the Packers’ modern history, as it was the last time they beat the 49ers in postseason football (5 playoff losses since then). The Packers came up short against the Rams in the Divisional Round.
1998
Finishing up with the 1998/99 season, the Packers were coming off two successive Super Bowl appearances, and big things were expected with Brett Favre in his pomp (coming off three consecutive MVP-winning seasons). Things didn’t exactly pan out that way, though. While the Packers went on to secure an 11-5 record, they were miles behind the Vikings (15-1) in the NFC Central, losing twice to the divisional rival in the regular season. In the Wild Card Playoffs, it was another chapter in the storied history of the Packers-49ers rivalry, with the latter coming out on top in a tight game at Candlestick Park.

Packers win a thriller
The Green Bay Packers did the unthinkable today. They won a game with a game-winning field goal. I’m not joshing you. New Packers kicker Brandon McManus kicked the game-winner as time expired giving the Packers a huge 24-22 win. It’s not often you win a game when committing three turnovers and have eight penalties, but somehow the Packers did just that.
It was by no means a thing of beauty. Jordan Love took over the league interception lead from Will Levis, throwing two more to give him eight on the season. And despite the McManus game-winner and punter Daniel Whelan having a wale of a game, special teams committed two huge gaffes again, three if you count the holding on the opening kickoff costing them 28 yards.
The worst was the stupid decision by Keisean Nixon letting a punt drop inside the ten with a sea of Packers around it. There was no way for it not to hit one of them. Then after Jayden Reed replaced Nixon on the next punt he caught it at the goal line and got tackled inside the ten. I will say this, this happened right in front of me if the guy doesn’t make a shoestring tackle it was clear sailing for Reed.

Love looking more and more like four
I’m not sure what is going on with Love but these wild throws he’s starting to make need to stop. Two more ugly interceptions today cost the Packers dearly. If not for the new and improved defense this would have been a loss and it would. have been all on Love’s shoulders. Like Brett Favre, however, he came back and led the game winning drive after a huge stop by the defense gave the Packers a chance to win it with a field goal.
Two of Love’s TD passes were things of beauty to tight end Tucker Kraft and Dontayvion Wicks. The other was only an eight yarder but it was a thing of beauty to Josh Jacobs, who had never caught a touchdown pass before. Other than the two interceptions Love is looking more and more like the he did at the end of last season
Defense was awesome again
The Packers’ defense continues to get better under new coordinator Jeff Hafley. The last two weeks they completely shut down two very talented quarterbacks in Kyler Murray and C.J. Stroud. They held the NFL’s fourth ranked passing game to 55 yards passing. That’s not a joke. The defense made stop after stop even while being on the field most of the second half. And they did it without a turnover so we can put that question to bed.
It was a great game to be at and keeps the Packers within striking distance of the NFC North lead. The Lions beat the Vikings today they now lead the division at 6-1.
Here was my view of the game-winner:  Lambeau Goes Wild

New Post has been published on https://www.packernet.com/blog/2024/10/17/depth-of-youth/
Depth of youth
Young talent is bubbling up all over the Green Bay Packers roster.
Rookie defenders Edgerrin Cooper, Evan Williams and Javon Bullard are playing meaningful snaps and making weekly impacts. Similarly, on offense, rookie Jordan Morgan is good enough to be on the field when healthy. Meanwhile, second year pass catchers Jayden Reed and Tucker Kraft are on the cusp of being stars. 2nd and 3rd round steals, they may be the best at their position from the ’23 draft—a draft that was loaded at WR and TE.
Don’t forget grizzled vets
Calling out the young talent completely ignores “old” players like Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, Zach Tom and Devonte Wyatt who are only in their third year. Green Bay isn’t just young, they’re young, talented, and deep.
If Brian Gutekunst and Matt LaFleur won’t say they’re giddy about the young base of talent on this roster, they’re lying or afraid to say it out loud.
Just as important, LaFleur and first year defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley seem to be doing a fantastic job of rotating their young talent to get them onto the field. Against Arizona, 10 players had receptions and 7 different players ran the ball. That’s crazy balance.
Dragging down the average
To be sure, there are red flags. Quay Walker, Lukas Van Ness and Luke Musgrave and Eric Stokes are playing well below their draft position. None of them look like busts, but at this stage of their careers, they’re underperforming the spots where they were picked.
Injuries will take a toll on every NFL roster. It’s not if, but when. Before this season is complete any or all of Jacob Monk, MarShawn Lloyd, Ty’Ron Hopper, Kitan Oladapo or Luke Musgrave will likely get chances to show they belong in the NFL.
Trades coming home to roost
The NFL is decidedly a young man’s game. For the second-straight year, Green Bay has the youngest roster in the league, and most of them are contributing. GM Brian Gutekunst has been on a several year hot streak of drafting talent and value. The added picks that came from the Rodgers, Adams and Rasul Douglas trades, are icing on the cake.
In terms of talent across the roster, the Packers are top 10 in the league. Can they keep it together and grow to compete with the toughest teams in the NFC in January? It’s too soon to know, but it’s a real possibility.

Green Bay Packers Work Out 6 Offensive Linemen
The Green Bay Packers are actively reshaping their team dynamics with strategic decisions. With an opening on their practice squad, the Packers are considering adding cornerback Robert Rochell, following the release that cleared room for wide receiver Romeo Doubs’ return.
Despite these roster adjustments, the primary focus during mid-week training was on evaluating the capabilities of free-agent offensive linemen.
The team assessed six prospects, including Keaton Bills, Zach Bailey, Andrew Coker, Mason Brooks, Matt Farniok, and Jack Wilson.
The spotlight among them is on Jack Wilson, who brings a unique athletic background as a former college basketball player.
These tryouts highlight the Packers’ ongoing efforts to strengthen their offensive line and enhance the overall roster.
The Journey of Jack Wilson and Zach Bailey in Professional Football
Jack Wilson is an intriguing prospect for the Packers because of his towering height of over 6’10”, which he showcased during the pre-draft process. Despite not having been signed by an NFL team before, his potential has certainly caught the attention of scouts.
Wilson’s athletic journey is diverse; he kicked off his college career at Oregon State, later moving to Idaho and Washington State, where he juggled playing both football and basketball. In 2022, Wilson made two starts at tackle for Washington State. By 2023, he was with Minnesota, focusing solely on basketball.
Meanwhile, Zach Bailey has yet to see regular-season action on offense in the NFL. However, his journey isn’t short of experience, as he’s been connected with six different teams since entering the league in 2019 as an undrafted player.
Recently released by the Atlanta Falcons, Bailey remains a player of interest for teams like the Packers, who are continually assessing their roster to better their Green Bay Packers odds as they aim for a successful season.
Profiles of Emerging Talents: Bills, Brooks, Coker, and Farniok
Keaton Bills, a 26-year-old offensive guard, might seem a bit older for a rookie, but that’s due to his LDS mission, which gives him a unique life experience. He had another year to play at Utah but chose to try his luck in the NFL. Bills was waived by the Buffalo Bills at the cutdown deadline in August. Despite being undrafted, his determination stands out as he vies for a spot in the professional league.
Mason Brooks took a slightly different path, making a name for himself at Western Kentucky, where he earned All-Conference USA honors. He later moved to Ole Miss for his final year. After going undrafted in 2023, Brooks spent some time with the Washington Commanders’ practice squad but got released during cuts. Although he briefly joined the Carolina Panthers’ practice squad in 2024, he’s still looking for a more permanent opportunity.
Andrew Coker, another undrafted rookie, was waived by the Las Vegas Raiders at the cutdown deadline. His talents, however, were recognized by the UFL’s Birmingham Stallions, who drafted him. Coker is keeping his options open, possibly heading to the spring league next year if the NFL doors remain closed for now.
Matt Farniok carries the most experience among these prospects. The center emerged from Nebraska and was picked in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He’s had the chance to start two NFL games in 2022, having been part of teams like the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, and Detroit Lions. Farniok’s established skills make him a valuable contender for teams seeking reliable offensive line depth.
The Takeaway
The Green Bay Packers are carefully considering their roster decisions. With 10 offensive linemen already on their main roster and Donovan Jennings and Lecitus Smith on the practice squad, any new addition would mean replacing one of these players.
The team is focused on strengthening their lineup for better performance, and every move is aimed at ensuring they have the strongest possible roster for the upcoming games.

Packers dominate Cardinals from start to finish
The Green Bay Packers played their best game of the year today and pretty much rolled to a 34-13 win over the Arizona Cardinals. It was raining to start the game but that didn’t slow down the Packers’ offense. The Packers raced to a 24-0 first half lead, scoring on their first four possessions. After a brief run by the Cardinals cut the lead to 24-13 the Packers’ defense forced three second-half turnovers and that ended any comeback hopes.
The Cardinals came into the game with only five turnovers on the year and only 19 penalties. Today they had three turnovers and 13 penalties. The refs were on the Packers’ side today. But it likely wouldn’t have mattered anyway the way Jordan Love and the offense played today. Love was on target from the start and with Christian Watson back in the lineup the Packers are simply a different offense.
Wide receiver Romeo Doubs returned to action after a one game suspension and had two great touchdown catches. Christian Watson and Jaydon Reed also caught TD passes from Love. It was Love’s second straight four touchdown game at Lambeau. He might need more than that next week against Houston.
The Packers really spread the wealth against the Cardinals. Seven players had a rushing attempt and nine caught passes. It was by far the best the offense has looked all year under Love, who seems fully recovered from his opening week ankle injury.
Defense continues to force turnovers
The Cardinals took the opening drive of the second half for a field goal and that would be as close as they would get at 24-13. The Packers promptly went 70 yards to take a 31-13 lead and the defense took it from there. They forced fumbles on the next three Arizona drives.
Arizona quarterback Kyler Murray was kept in check both running and passing. It didn’t help that he lost receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. to a concussion early. It was pretty much an all around bad day for the Cardinals.
I think this was the defenses’s best performance of the year. It comes after a halfway decent game against the Rams last week so hopefully the defense is coming together. They will need to be at their best with C.J. Stroud and Co. coming to town next week.
The Lions and Bears also had blowout victories today so there is no rest for the weary. The Packers must keep winning.

Packers’ playoff path: key games and the impact of Jordan Love’s return
There is a great deal at stake for the Green Bay Packers in this part of the season. How quarterback Jordan Love continues to round into form this season where every game counts will be a determining factor. With his presence, the offense might pick up again, and morale will be boosted for the Packers in these crucial games. Everyone wants to see whether Love can lead this team back into playoff contention and rekindle some magic surrounding Green Bay football.
Overview of the Packers’ season
This season has been a rollercoaster for the Packers – from flashes of brilliance to frustrating setbacks. The roster has been ravaged by injury, affecting key players and their performance capacities. Close games have sometimes tested them, forcing them to grow under pressure. The momentum will be significant in this part of the season. It will be all about consistency, but the probable return of Love to form could provide that spark that would help tap into the team’s potential.
Game against the Detroit Lions
The November 3 game against the Detroit Lions is rife with meaning. It’s not a simple rival relationship, but more a battle of wills where both franchises have defined themselves against each other through the years. After years of Packers’ dominance, Packer-Lion games are close affairs with playoff implications hanging in the balance. Not only could this game help the Packers with their playoff hopes, but it could also provide a psychological boost and prove once more that the team are dominant over this particular division foe.
Divisional matchups
Besides the Lions, of course, they have to play the other opponents in the NFC North – the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings. These divisional matchups are essential as they greatly determine playoff seeding. All of these will add some value as a good performance against them would shift the balance of power in favor of the Packers. Furthermore, this will give the squad members confidence and prove that they are to be taken seriously as the postseason approaches.
The return of Jordan Love
Jordan Love was still finding his place in the lineup before an injury, showing flashes as a potentially explosive quarterback. Love is at his best when he uses his arm strength or agility to make quick, deep throws. Besides the physical means, Love’s leadership would solidify on-field players with clear direction and redefined meaning. His return to MVP form will bolster the offense and help energize the whole team. Therefore, he is an essential weapon heading into some critical games.
Key strategies for success
On this note, the Packers need to devise a game plan through tactical adjustments that would maximize Love’s skills upon his return. Establishing a proper running game will take some pressure off Love while opening play-action pass opportunities.
Also, a strong defense would be required to place the offense in a good field position. Much of this will involve communication and teamwork that allows players to adjust on the fly and take advantage of every opportunity. This can make a difference for the Packers when the games are critical.
The role of fan engagement
In these pivotal games that lie ahead, fan involvement is vital. An active fanbase can provide an electric environment that charges the team to give it their all. As an incentive to fans, online casino markets have offered sign-up bonuses for those who participate in any way with the team to get involved with online betting opportunites. Such initiatives help to strengthen the connection between the franchise and its fans, supplementing the drive for success even more so.
Conclusion
The upcoming games are of great importance to the Packers, especially with the expected comeback of Jordan Love in the context of chasing their playoff dreams. Of course, these games will equally serve as a test of their resolve to show how far they will go as contenders. It is time to get excited and enjoy each game while supporting the Packers in this journey toward the playoffs.

New Post has been published on https://www.packernet.com/blog/2024/10/10/why-dontayvion-wicks-is-key-to-the-packers-offensive-success/
Why Dontayvion Wicks Is Key to the Packers’ Offensive Success
Dontayvion Wicks has emerged as a critical figure for the Green Bay Packers, especially with key players like Christian Watson battling injuries. As a second-year wide receiver, Wicks has shown remarkable growth, delivering explosive plays that have made him an essential target for quarterback Jordan Love.
Wicks’ Breakout Performance Against the Minnesota Vikings
Dontayvion Wicks’ two-touchdown performance against the Minnesota Vikings on September 29 was a turning point in his season and showcased his ability to deliver in critical moments.
Despite the Packers’ 31-29 loss, Wicks played a pivotal role in the team’s near comeback, catching five passes for 78 yards. His ability to create explosive plays helped keep Green Bay in the game, and his contribution was crucial in mounting a furious fourth-quarter rally that nearly resulted in a win.
In that game, Wicks demonstrated his capacity to come through when the Packers needed him most. Whether it was securing key first downs or finding the end zone twice, his consistent performance during crunch time made him an indispensable asset for Jordan Love and the entire offense. The pressure was high, but Wicks handled it with precision and focus, giving the Packers a fighting chance against their NFC North rivals.
Stepping Up in Christian Watson’s Absence
With Christian Watson dealing with injuries throughout the season, the Packers needed someone to step into his role and deliver in high-pressure situations. Wicks has filled that void and exceeded expectations, becoming one of Jordan Love’s top targets. His route-running, ability to create separation, and knack for making tough catches have all contributed to his elevated status within the Packers’ offense.
Head coach Matt LaFleur has shown tremendous trust in Wicks, allowing him to take on a larger role in the absence of key players. Wicks’ dedication to improving his craft, addressing mistakes, and consistently executing on the field has made him a reliable option for Love. This trust is a result of Wicks’ relentless work ethic and commitment to becoming a better player week by week.
Playmaking Ability and Explosive Potential
Wicks’ ability to create explosive plays is one of the key reasons he has become so valuable to the Packers. His speed and agility make him a constant threat to opposing defenses, and his chemistry with Jordan Love has allowed them to connect on multiple big plays throughout the season. His 78-yard performance against the Vikings is just one example of his playmaking potential.
While his performance against Minnesota stood out, Wicks has been consistent throughout the season, regularly contributing in both short-yardage and deep-ball situations. His ability to adjust to different game scenarios and maintain a high level of play has made him an integral part of the Packers’ offense.
The Former WR From Virginia
Dontayvion Wicks’ journey from being a fifth-round pick out of Virginia to becoming a key player for the Packers is a testament to his hard work and determination. Wicks was overlooked by many during the draft process, but under Matt LaFleur’s coaching, he has evolved into a crucial piece of the Packers’ offense.
The former WR from Virginia is seen as a prime example of how fifth-round picks can evolve into crucial players under the right coaching, a perspective echoed by BetMGM Virginia football experts who monitor player development closely.
LaFleur’s system has been instrumental in helping Wicks reach his potential. With consistent coaching and opportunities to learn from his mistakes, Wicks has made significant strides in his overall game. His progression is an example of how lower-round draft picks can evolve into valuable assets with the right guidance.
The Trust Between Wicks and Jordan Love
One of the most important aspects of Wicks’ role on the team is his growing connection with quarterback Jordan Love. Trust between a quarterback and wide receiver is essential for success in the NFL, and Wicks has earned Love’s trust through his reliability and playmaking ability.
Wicks has proven that he can handle high-pressure situations, often being Love’s go-to target in critical moments. Whether it’s a third-down conversion or a last-minute drive, Love has relied on Wicks to make the plays that keep the Packers’ offense moving. This trust is evident in Wicks’ ability to consistently perform when the team needs him most.
The Importance of Versatility in the Packers’ Offense
Wicks’ versatility is another key aspect of his value to the Packers. He can line up in multiple positions on the field, making it difficult for defenses to predict how the Packers will use him in any given play. This versatility allows the Packers to exploit mismatches and create opportunities for big plays.
With Wicks’ ability to play both in the slot and on the outside, the Packers can adjust their offensive scheme based on their opponent’s weaknesses. His versatility has opened up the playbook for LaFleur and provided Love with a reliable option in multiple formations.
Wicks’ Commitment to Improvement
One of the most impressive aspects of Dontayvion Wicks’ game is his commitment to improving week by week. He constantly reviews game footage, works on his technique, and addresses areas where he can get better. This dedication has not gone unnoticed by the coaching staff.
Wicks’ ability to take feedback and immediately apply it has earned him the trust of head coach Matt LaFleur. His willingness to learn and adapt has made him a key part of the Packers’ plans, both now and in the future.
Impact on the Packers’ Offense Moving Forward
As the Packers look ahead, Wicks will continue to be a vital part of their offensive strategy. His ability to create big plays and perform in critical moments ensures that he will remain a key target for Jordan Love as the season progresses.
If Wicks continues on this trajectory, he has the potential to become one of the premier wide receivers in the league. His performance thus far has shown that he can handle the pressure and deliver when it matters most, making him a key figure in the Packers’ future plans.
Wicks’ Role in the Packers’ Playoff Push
As the season progresses, Dontayvion Wicks will be crucial to the Packers’ push for the playoffs. His ability to perform in big games and make explosive plays will be essential as the Packers face tough competition in the NFC.
Wicks will need to continue his high level of play as the Packers prepare for crucial matchups that will determine their playoff fate. His ability to step up in these games will be a determining factor in the Packers’ success.

New Post has been published on https://www.packernet.com/blog/2024/10/07/escape-from-l-a/
Escape from L.A
The Green Bay Packers went to Los Angeles to face the Rams shorthanded and distracted. They certainly played that way for most of the game. But behind a strong third quarter by both the defense and the offense the Packers pulled out a 24-19 win. It certainly wasn’t pretty, but at 3-2 he Packers are right in the hunt in the NFC and didn’t fall to last place in the division with the Bears and Vikings both winning as well.
As has become his wont, Jordan Love came out ice cold. He got lucky with a bomb to Jayden Reed to set up the Packers first touchdown but again was not sharp in the first half. Much like last week against the Vikings. It doesn’t help when your receivers are dropping balls at an alarming rate. Dontayvion Wicks can’t catch a cold yet Love keeps going to him. At some point he needs to take a seat.
Defense still the same
On defense the Packers were able to come up huge turnovers but overall they couldn’t stop the Rams when they needed to. After an eight minute drive in the fourth quarter in which the offense didn’t score, the defense let the Rams go right down the field for a touchdown without using a timeout. It was the easiest 70 yards gained in NFL history I think.
After a four-and-out by the Packers offense that didn’t even make the Rams use all their timeouts the Rams had another chance to win. After quickly moving down the field again the Rams were knocking on the door of victory. This time after getting the Rams to third down they blitzed hard on third and fourth down and were able to force incompletions to seal the win. At least defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley was going to go down swinging. This time it worked out.
The Packers now have two home games against the Cardinals and Texans and both of those offenses should scare the hell out of you as a Packers’ fan. The Packers will need to play better in all phases if they want to continue winning.

Doubt tinged hope
So, the Packers’ place-kicking problem is real. Similarly concerning, are big name, well paid, pass rushers were invisible Sunday.
Beating a good team on a roll with so many drops on offense and defense combined with penalties and rusty-sloppy QB play, were too much to overcome against Minnesota. Still, there are reasons for hope.
Jayden Reed looks like a star. In spite of being down 28, the defense woke up managed to play well enough to make a comeback possible. It also looks like Green Bay has a legit weapon in punter Daniel Whelan. But the biggest hope is that Jordan Love made some serious throws as the game wore on, giving reason to think his performance will continue to sharpen.
Pass rush challenge
Through 4-games, big name talents Rashan Gary, Kenny Clark and Preston Smith have been mostly below average, and at times, invisible. Lukas Van Ness and Kingsley Enagbbare flash hustle, growth and but not enough results. Devonte Wyatt is the biggest impact player from the d-line early this season, but he was injured late. He was on crutches and in a walking boot post-game with an MRI scheduled. Hopefully his recovery isn’t a long one.
Sometimes you can scheme a pressure, or a sack. Defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley did just that with Keisean Nixon’s strip sack. But Green Bay must get more from their front-4 to contend, because blitzes and scheme only gets you so far.
Kicking riddle wrapped in a conundrum
While kickers across the league are blasting 50 and 60 yard kicks, Brayden Narveson has missed in every game (once saved by penalty).
The two misses yesterday, from 37 and 49 yards, were devastating. Playing from behind all day is hard enough. It gets much harder when leaving easy points on the field. Coach Matt LaFleur expressed confidence in his kicker. Narveson should thank his coach for the white lie–because there’s no way he’s confident.
The young kicker may another week because there aren’t any great kickers just waiting to get signed. It’s safe to assume Narveson won’t sleep well for quite some time.
The talent and coaching to fuel an exciting, competitive, team is still evident, even in a tough home loss. Solving the pass rush and kicking problems won’t be easy fixes.
