The Bad Batch season 3 has been interesting thus far. I really liked episodes 1-7 and I've nothing particularly bad to say about any of those episodes. But honestly episode 8, and after today, episode 9, it's once again gotten to be a bit of a pain to get through. Maybe I'm just too much of a Crosshair guy, idk. Today's episode especially irked me but last time I discussed the topics it delves into I got some pissy people in my notes and I'd rather avoid that this time around.

just rambling thoughts about the chapter now that ive Actually read it (thank u tcb and also i wish ppl who post about leaks without tags a very can you Stop and tag thanks)

tldr; i dont hate the chapter, its an interesting one! feel free to discuss with me if u would like

I don't actually hate the chapter conceptually

Ideologically, Uraume has brought up the topic of being human and the fact to be strong/to defeat sukuna you must disregard that obsession of loneliness/humanity. I also think at the end of the day, it speaks a lot about how jujutsu society functions (in that it uses people regardless of respecting them as people, i.e. the star plasma vessels, children as sorcerers facing death constantly, etcetc).

Nevertheless, I do wonder why Yuta had to do it. At the end of the day I still believe Yuji will be the one to defeat Sukuna, you cannot tell me all that build up to him is for Nothing, but what point is there in bringing Yuta in that case? If he just does more damage and then dies (lol), like. What is there to it. Like in the perspective of the characters i get it, they don't know if they'll win or lose and they're gonna have to use every option they have, but simply on a readers perspective, it feels a bit redundant. I just feel there should be a way to incorporate this idea without it feeling like we'll get gojo v sukuna 2.0. Idk i just want yuji to beat sukuna like that first page was so cool :(!!!!

Anyway, the idea of bringing back Gojo similar to how "Toji" was revived in shibuya is also unbelievable bc Gojo himself is shown to still want to protect the kids. His ideology derives from making sure They Are Alive And Changing The System. Yes, I get it he is battle obsessed too (see the shinjuku battle) but it doesn't change he went out of his way to tell them not to look/follow him for what he's about to do with the higher ups. Theory wise, gojo being brought back like this is dull (but plausible i suppose) (also thinking about it would that Really be gojo? We saw that toji still didnt come back normal, and wasnt it stated that the toji that did come back was more of just the memories of the body rather than the person himself? Idk. Anyway)

Additionally, Yuta, altho caring for Gojo, is still falling back to the mentality that made Gojo alone (the "Strongest" vs Gojo Satoru). Yuta himself wanting to sacrifice his humanity so everything Gojo did wouldn't be moot while still using his body, which inherently disrespects him as a person, is a hyprocritical and flawed way of thinking that makes him interesting for me now lmao. He cares for him a lot, but he has to resort to it as a means to an end. Also I don't care if he dies, in fact the idea of him living while still in gojo is just weird tbh so i really dont see a way put of that? Im kinda just interested to see what happens tbh

I'll be real; I can see both points in how ppl think this is a cool chapter vs ppl thinking it sucks. It is surprising how very Neutral I am on this bc I personally feel like the explanations given made sense to me in the chapter.

I don't think this took away from Yuta's character, nor did it take away from what we've seen before; Yuta is not Yuuji. Yuta has shown that he can kill people. He only sparred Uro and Ryu bc of the rule to be able to transfer points. He admits that he "cheated" in the past month. Yuta is very aware of what decisions are wrong but still does them bc its for the best outcome, even if it means losing his own humanity. Yuta wants the best for Gojo but still looks at it in a flawed way. Yuta is unknowingly falling into Sukuna's/Uraume's ideology.

Yuuji is the only one so far in the series that continues to be filled with regret from killing and still wants to do better. He is forced to dissociate his self-identity to cope with his actions. He has said he would eat anything to defeat Sukuna, effectively throwing his humanity, but does not do so at the expense of other ppl (see Yuji's conversation with Higuruma before shinjuku). Yuji looked past Gojo's infinity so he could give encouragement, even tho everyone else was afraid. Yuji is the antithesis to Sukuna's view of the world

Yuta is not Yuji, and I think that's the point.

I don't think one is better than the other, I simply find this contrast to be interesting when u look at it in the grander theme of change and tradition within jujutsu society.

HI <3 Sheith VC anon here back with a very humble request. So I've read TVL and am currently reading QoTD, just finished the Devil's Minion chapter (oH mY gOD my HEART). I'm going through the books a bit slowly bc life stuff, but I have sooooo many thoughts and feelings and feel like I need to read lots of fic to work through it LOL. I would love it if you could rec me some (or tons of!) fics that wouldn't give me (m)any spoilers re: stuff that happens after this point in the series. I realize this might be a kind of hard/maybe impossible request because a lot of those spoilers would be referring to things that chronologically would have taken place prior to DM for instance, but I'm so starved I thought I might ask just in case! Be aware that the TV fandom and book fandom sometimes overlap so there might be stray TV fics in the book tag; it won't spoil anything bc the TV canon is a completely different story, but it might not make sense if you jump in to read it. heyyyyy, gintama for the fandom asks?

iris did you know that i love you

The first character I first fell in love with: Gintoki. i've loved him even before i watched gintama (that blorbo in law situation) it was of course partly sharing a friend's enthusiasm but also his design. now that i know his whole character it just makes me fall even more... and these are why:

his dead fish eye. his lack of energy. his sweet tooth. the one arm sticking out of his yukata bcs he thinks it's cool (he insists its just so he could grab his wooden sword faster). the way he rarely refuses to help people even if he acts annoyed about it.

he's kind of like reigen in many ways (28 year old freelancer - albeit questionable job - and bad older brother figures for some middle schoolers)

he's a gag character but sometimes he also acts as a straight man. i think he believes himself to be the sanest person when compared to his childhood friends (which. honestly doesn't say much). also im weak for characters voiced by mr Sugita

oh yeah have i mentioned his design. of course his main outfit is really cool but i love the ones we sometimes see him in. like his winter clothes, the ryokan uniform, shiroyasha, white blood king, that one time he switched job to a truck driver, his host suit, enmi... so many. he also crossdressed several times and slayed the look. despite wanting to have him in my bed someday im actually not that crazy over shirtless gintoki (except for his pink strawberry boxer shorts). the rule is the more layers of fabric he puts on, the more in love i am

The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: tbh Takasugi.. he's Gintoki's childhood friend but after what happened 10 years ago their relationship seems mostly hateful on the outside, but they actually treasure the other very much as a friend. when he first appeared he was introduced as an antagonist, probably the main one for the whole series, and it was kinda meh because at that point i was watching gintama for the comedy. but after watching the flashback of their time together it hurts just thinking about them. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: see this is hard cos im not really deep in the fandom buuuut if i have to choose its shinpachi... its not that i dont like him, I just care for him the least...... he's good when paired with other characters (with gintoki & kagura or with his sister) but when he's by himself he's not that interesting. and i get it he's supposed to not be interesting. it's a whole joke that shinpachi is the most boring character. idk sorry shinpachi i hope they give you some new trait in the ginpachi spin-off

The character I love that everyone else hates: sorry idk who is the hated character in the fandom 😭

The character I used to love but don’t any longer: Kintoki, maybe? he was a robot created per Shinpachi & Kagura's request because their current boss (Gintoki), who was nowhere to be found (probably drinking), is very irresponsible. so Kintoki is the polar opposite of Gintoki, created to be perfect in the ways gintoki couldn't. i used to really love him because of his charisma (took a bunch of screenshots & collected fanart of him) but after his arc ended i kinda forgot about him lmao. im chill about him now

The character I would totally smooch: gintoki. in case that wasn't clear

A pairing that I love: hijikata/gintoki!! i think they have a nice dynamic. unlike gintoki, hijikata is a very strict person. everytime they meet they always fight, but they understand each other and do well when fighting together. both of them insists they're not friends but when gintoki left town hijikata said "I'm gonna look for him." how do you expect me to not go insane.

ginsachi is also up there, and tbh if gintoki said he'd marry me after our first meeting I'd react like sacchan did. sacchan is a creep but i support girls wrong etc. it's a shame they dont really have many episodes together after that except when it's another harem episode :/

A pairing that I despise: GINTOKI/KYUUBEI. im glad there isnt actually many fancontent of them but my god do i despise it. i hate that kyuubei has sooo much potential as a non-binary character but became a part of gintoki's harem. like. i cannot see in kyuubei the same character that appeared in their debut arc. i know them starting to embrace their feminine side is an important trait but at this point it feels like they're turned into a girl just because. i know it sounds like im just talking about kyuubei im just really pissed lmao. it also doesnt make any sense to me how they would even have feelings for gintoki :(

(regarding the five pebbles and seven red suns ship) i feel like when it comes to the iterators either interpretation could be valid?? like some people interpret them as friends, some interpret them as family

like, lttm says "one of [pebble's] friends" when talking about suns, and then suns themselves says (paraphrasing a bit) "as a long time friend" on the pearl they send to him

in regards to the ancients calling themselves the iterators parents, i always felt like it was akin to the way some religious people say that everyone is a children of [insert god here] or something, like a metaphor

also same here abt seeing suns and pebs as just friends, its just that now that ive returned to rw a few years later and looked into the lore pearls again that i think its implied that iterators would see eachother as somewhat related perhaps?

i didnt think about the iterators being considered like "children of (godlike figure)" but in hindsight, thats also a possibility. In the lore pearl that this is brought up they also say that five pebbles is "their gift to the world" or something like that, and that seems to fit with that theme as well...

and yeah, when it comes to all forms of art, no interpretation is truly wrong. i think the main point that bothers me aside from the possibly siblings stuff is i feel like this isnt what people should be getting out of the iterators plotline? like shipping is fun. it is for fun. im not gonna go after people for that! but i also feel like people should be taking a step back and appreciating the characters for what they are and not for what they could be. if that makes sense?

about your second point, i have something to say about that but its MAJOR downpour spoilers, specifically for the rivulet and the spearmaster campaigns so im just gonna put it under a readmore

in the rivulets campaign, when asking the rivulet to do one last thing for him, pebbles calls moon "an old friend" himself (in fact thats what the achievement for finishing rivulet is called). moon very explicitly sees pebbles as a younger brother and expresses this at the end of the campaign. and in the spearmasters campaign theres those satellite things that show iterator logs when touched, and we get to see 2 iterators (from what i assume to be a neighboring group) gossiping about pebs, one of them brings up the fact that pebs was built near moon and the other asks "Isn't she his senior enough to the point where she calls herself 'Big Sis Moon'?". Its much more explicit that moon views her group as her younger siblings but pebs still calls her an old friend of his regardless!

last of all, someone said this in the tags of my post but looking at the lore pearl convo between pebbles and suns as well as the one between suns and wind really gives suns the impression of an older sibling, at least it does to me. also, back to those satellites in the spearmasters campaign, suns says that pebbles always looked up to them and they never took that lightly. srs is someone pebbles considers close because he looks up to him!

Their dynamic is something interesting to me now bc of downpour and im all about bullshitting and reading into things a little bit more for ships, but looking at SRS and FP.... how do i describe it. i dont really feel like theres SPACE for shipping in this case? like it wouldnt be necessarily invalid but its kinda missing the Point of the spearmasters campaign i feel. infact i feel like this is the only reason people see seven red suns as male despite none of the other iterators having specified genders (unless the dlc confirmed a gender for suns, then i missed that). anyways this last paragraph is just me rambling oops

I recently started a new job so I currently have 3 to 5 jobs depending on who you ask (2 of which are gig based so its not as intense as it seems). Last night my friend had a halloween themed story telling night I couldnt go to bc I m being drained by work

Instead, i read some gay horror stories on CG and I really wanted to ramble about it.

I ended up reading Human Mold and didnt know how I felt about it when I finished. I thought I was kind of indifferent about it, but now that Im out of work I can honestly say Im disappointed bc I was really enjoying it.

I cant critique the quality of the translation but i really enjoyed the way it was written. Something about the writing was scratching an itch in my brain in that it was descriptive enough to keep me interested but not overwhelmingly so where my adhd will kick in and make me have to reread everything.

But also, it had enough horror in it to justify the horror tag. I personally started feeling dread when the protagnoist had to deal with the mold seemingly getting worse. I kinda wish there was a more psychological element to it where it seems to everyone else that its not that big of a deal and he might just be overly stressed making the mold problem worse then it actually is (but thats a "in my fanfic..." kind of comment. Not an actual critique). Either way, the execution of the horror and gore was well done.

The dynamic between the ml and protag was interesting enough for me to want to see how their relationship would develop. Spoilers but, Im kind of glad I was misled in thinking that the mold man was going to be the ml. Also, the demon's backstory had me excited bc it reminded me a lot of priest novel's where you get a character who in any other story would have been the antagonist but instead the true antagnoist is systemic oppression or in this case a corrupt elite who dehumanize the poor.

This all was, in my opinion, a perfect set up for a horror rom com slice of life story with the mold man being a reoccuring threat and I was there 👏 for👏 it 👏.

So it was very disappointing for it to just end there. I m going to look up the author in a desperate attempt to get more.

That's all to say Human Mold was pretty good.

I wish I was exaggerating when I say I finally found something to scratch the horror itch that Kaleidoscope of Death left in my brain. That birth scene??? The gore after that?? Im so invested.

Great writing AS PER USUAL FI. My official review is that my brain fucking hurts 🤡 I don’t know what’s going on.

My small(ish) list of theories/thoughts so far is that

3. Hyunjin can step off. I’m not pleased with him atm. Sure he’s being a nice friend occasionally, HOWEVER he’s very clearly using the reader to take a dig at Chan and it’s pissing me off because she’s!! Not privy to that!!! She doesn’t know no better!!!

4. What the fuck even happened between Chan/Hyunjin/Burberry wearing ass fiancé. There is no theory. There is only pain I experience for Chan.

5. I can’t even begin to explain to you how much the Changbin conversation confused me. Like if Chan likes the reader I would say he Clearly didn’t tell Changbin about it. In which case Why is Changbin so mad that Hyunjin is going to the wedding with the reader specifically. I’m crying what the FUCK happened.

6. I know for a fact this bitch is gonna fall for the reader (Hyunjin) so like??? If this doesn’t end in poly I genieunly have no idea what I’m gonna do with myself. Everybody should just be happy and get along 😭😭😭

OH MY GOSH U HAVE SIX OF CROWS ON YOUR TBR!!!!!! i recently read that duology and i loved it. i will genuinely take those two books to my grave. they've become one of my 5 star reads!!

im not sure if you've watched the netflix series "shadow and bone" but i did! mainly bc i wanted to get a gist of the setting, magic, etc., without having to read the original trilogy. (also partly because i've seen reviews saying that the trilogy wasn't great 😭 so i just didnt want to go through that and went straight to the netflix show) thankfully, there wasn't too much spoilers for the main characters of "six of crows"! (a little bit from their past tho? but i didn't really mind those much) anyway im kinda glad i did that bc i could imagine the characters and setting of six of crows so well !! like i imagined each character as the actors from the show and it was like i could hear their voices in my head. it was amazing !! this is just me gushing ab books bc WOW i love that duology so bad

I recently started to get back into books. Ya girl has severe adhd so it was always really hard for me to stay present while reading. But I now read in tandem with audiobooks!! That’s how I’ve been reading most things and it helps me so much!! My favorites are when they have separate voices for each character. I’m waiting for my next audible credit to get the six of crows audio (only available through Amazon audible smh 🙄). I’m excited for that one because it’s not just one VO but multiple voice actors!!

And I have seen the show! Partially why I wanted to read the book! I heard that the show runners loved the Crows so much that they added it into the adaptation instead of just focusing on the Grisha!! (not fact-checked) and then I started reading Kaz x reader fics and lowkey wanted to read it even more (if you’re into that kind of thing @swanimagines is a BRILLIANT writer and her Kaz fics are my favorite).

I’m obsessed with this one book series called ‘Cradle’ by Will Wight. I would need a whole other post about that one. I listened to the audiobooks twice (there are 10 🫣😭 but they’re relatively short books).

#ONE #your writing is fucking fantastic #from the sensory details like the cold weather feeling clammy and the wetness on bakugo's ankles #and his hearing constantly fading in and out depending on his emotional state #to the STRUCTURE of this story #like how you show in the first couple paragraphs the (wicked wicked imagery) ''burnt wick on disembodied legs'' and thats it #and then have fujimori rewrite bakugo's memories #and then have him cleared #and THEN show us bakugo's memories of the actual events #that was way fucking cool and i just loved everything about the style of this writing

#TWO #the character interactions were awesome #how deku cried a little thinking about how all the heroes from UA weren't perfect examples of morality #how bakugo refuses to fire at deku at first and then slips when he tells him to DIE like he normally would #how cold and unforgiving todoroki is bc he KNOWS all about fujimori and what sort of cases he normally handles #the ''he's the reason my mom--/my dad--/i--'' line was heartbreaking #but then how in his last scene he's almost DESPERATE for bakugo to prove his innocence to him and make this not as bad as it seems #ahh it was all so good

HELLO YES THANK YOU, I REALLY LOVE THIS REVIEW BECAUSE YES TO ALL OF IT. 

And I’m really really happy that you listed the structure of the story as something you liked! ^^ Cuz the structure went through A LOT of reworking from the initial draft. Like the first draft kinda had Bakugou’s whole memory of the incident info-dumped in the second section. And the more and more I iterated on the draft, the more I realized that I could capitalize so much more strongly on WHAT is remembered WHEN, especially as that relates to giving the reader a slow, trickle-feed of information around what, exactly, happened. And the sheer magnitude I could give it if I culminated in Bakugou remembering the exact moment after his name’s been cleared.

FOR THE CHARACTER INTERACTIONS, that was another thing that really, really evolved. My initial idea was more simply “Todoroki knows who Fujimori is because of his father”, but at first that was just a mechanism to make the other U.A. kids aware that something bad has gone down. I originally planned to end the fic during the scene of Midoriya and Bakugou sparring (with a different, wrap-it-up kind of ending to that scene too)

But I went for a run this evening and thought about how I really wanted to wrap up the fic, and I kinda had the epiphany that knowing Fujimori ISN’T just some little tidbit of info for Todoroki. That in the world I built, Fujimori ruined Todoroki’s life. And Todoroki can’t stomach the thought of a classmate, someone he almost would consider a friend, walking that exact same path, receiving the exact same absolution as his father.

And it felt even more right, because it meant the fic wouldn’t go in the direction of all the U.A. kids just worrying about Bakugou, and siding with him by default because he’s their friend. It made me realize that the scene with Midoriya confronting Bakugou wasn’t Midoriya doing his characteristic “i have to help everyone” song and dance. He’s hurt. He’s confused. He isn’t sure if he can look at Bakugou the same anymore. Midoriya tries first, more gently, to get Bakugou to explain what happened. And when that doesn’t work, and Bakugous  ‘everything’s been resolved’ is taken the wrong way by Todoroki, as bragging, Todoroki comes in hitting the hardest. Begging Bakugou to just prove him wrong. and it all ends, intentionally, with no clean resolution. because how could you possibly wrap something like this up all nice and clean

And about Fujimori himself - he became a more and more terrifying character the deeper into the draft I went. I, personally, want to punch him.

May I share an opinion on the whole Aizawa critical thing? His philosophy of "expelling to give kids a taste of death" doesn't make a lot of sense, both Bakugou and Izuku were caught and nearly died in a villain attack, Mina and Kirishima diffused an villain attack and is still impacted, but aizawa implicitly treated them like they are all privileged sheltered kids discovering the stakes in heroics for the first time

yes exactly!! I kinda went off on this so I'm putting most of this post under a 'keep reading' but essentially: Aizawa's teaching method (mostly the expulsion part) is incredibly flawed because it was based around his own trauma (Oboro's death), and it doesn't do anything good for his students, instead only working to their detriment no matter how much bnha wants to prove the opposite.

One of Aizawa's biggest character flaws (and honestly I'm not mad about it – it's actually a super interesting/cool flaw of his and I wish people would point it out more) is that he never really believes or acts like anything bad ever happens to anyone until he's explicitly told about it, or he's shown it. I think he genuinely believes that every student at UA has been babied since birth except for him and a select few people because of their quirks (Shinso), and every impulsive thing they do is because they don't believe in the consequences until they're shown them via expulsion. He believes that he is the only one who sees the consequences of being a hero because he's one of the only people who's seen someone die – one of his best friends – on the job, and it’s his job to teach everyone else that single fact.

and in many cases that is true! characters like Bakugo or even Izuku don't really get that the hero world is really dangerous until they attend UA. As All Might himself tells Izuku – heroes are expected to put their lives on the line for people. And as All Might (and Aizawa) knows, All Might, who is responsible for crime going down by at least 2%, is going to retire soon. Crime is going to rise. This means deaths like Oboro’s are going to rise, and Endeavor isn’t anywhere near the level to carry the weight of #1 quite like All Might did.

The problem is, there are generations of people from Aizawa to Izuku who have only known the world that All Might created for them, and that world is going to die very soon with a very unprepared Japan suffering in the fallout. So in Aizawa’s mind, the best way to help these future heroes understand that All Might isn’t going to be around to save them is to give them consequences via expulsion. So at the beginning of the year, he puts them all on the same level (aka everyone is some spoiled kid who doesn’t know the consequences of their own actions) and threatens them via expulsion to make sure they realize that death exists and that their actions have consequences.

Unfortunately for Aizawa and his worldview, not everyone is some spoiled kid who has been babied since birth except for him. We all know Midoriya’s situation is an abnormal one, I don’t think anyone would guess that a formerly quirkless child would be entering into the school with a quirk they just got that day, but as you stated both Bakugo, Kirishima, and Mina alone have been faced with real-world near-death scenarios and have survived. Hell, Bakugo and Midoriya’s Sludge Villain incident had made its way into the news! Midoriya and Bakugo nearly died and it was on the news, yet Aizawa still felt it apt to threaten Midoriya with expulsion (extra death) because he didn’t feel that Midoriya was trying hard enough with his quirk.

Why? He already nearly died once (twice technically but Aizawa doesn’t know that), there’s no need to ‘kill’ him again. Is it because All Might saved him and therefore Aizawa needs to push that All Might won’t always be around to help him by threatening him in a space where All Might has no power? Did Aizawa just not see or forget that Midoriya and Bakugo nearly died? Why does he threaten him here in front of his entire class? What purpose does it serve for Midoirya’s development? (there’s also a case to be made where he’s biased against Midoriya in the beginning simply because All Might likes him, but that’s a whole other discussion)

And of course, that’s just Midoriya. It’s bad enough that a kid who’s always been pushed down by other people up until this point is being threatened by yet another person who doesn’t believe in him, but what about the other kids? What about Todoroki, who has a powerful quirk but has been abused by his father since his quirk developed? What about Uraraka, who would probably do more heroic but illegal things within the series (like saving Bakugo) if her entire family’s well-being and livelihood didn’t hinge on the fact that she stayed in school and didn’t get expelled by the most hard-ass teacher in series. What about students with delicate situations that can’t afford to be expelled because of their circumstances?

Instead of doing or being heroic, they’d be putting all their focus into hopefully not getting expelled, following the rules, keeping their heads down, instead of, y’know, trusting the adults in their life and questioning authority when need be. If they do get expelled, at the very least it’ll keep a black stain on their records that will follow them for the rest of their careers, and they’ll have to explain how they got expelled from the most prestigious hero school in Japan time and time again, annoying at most and career-destroying at the worst. At the very most, it puts these kids in danger from their guardians. That’s terrifying.

For example, if Shoto got expelled, at the very least Endeavor would call in a complaint like a regular old Karen. At the very most (aka Fanon interpretations of Endeavor) Shouto would get his ass beat six ways to Sunday. Or, the more in-canon option, Endeavor would take up Shoto’s training full time, which is also not good and very dangerous for him. Either way, it's trouble for Shoto because Aizawa assumed that Shoto was a spoiled kid and needed to be taught a lesson.

And sure, Aizawa doesn’t expel anyone in 1-A, but that doesn’t change the fact that he has expelled students before, and as a result, a majority of them (re: class 2-A) don’t really like him or respect him. Aside from literally one girl, they think he’s scary. They don’t like him. Being a hardass teacher is one thing, being a hardass teacher who people like and respect despite the no-nonsense bullshit is another thing. And aside from class 1-A (it's important to note that none of them have gotten expelled from his class and have even trauma bonded with him) and that one 2-A girl, they don’t like or respect him. They fear him. And for as funny as that is, that’s not the sign of a good teacher.

It’s not necessarily lazy teaching since he does it with a purpose, but it’s not right. He’s basically giving his students the teaching equivalent of tough parenting, and as most people on the internet know, tough parenting only leads to negative consequences for the victims (the students). And furthermore, it's obvious he only does this because of his trauma with Oboro's death. Expulsion isn't traumatic, like I stated earlier it depends on the situation how serious being expelled would be for a student, but if you think about it this way – that Aizawa purposefully traumatizes/scares/hurts/destroys the trust of students in a completely different way from how he was traumatized to teach them a lesson without 'consequence' – that's not good! That's terrible, even, and incredibly harmful in the long run.

We even see the negative consequences of Aizawa's expulsion method in Aizawa himself! The consequences of Oboro's death (which expulsion is supposed to emulate) on him are detrimental to him – he goes into a very serious depression to the point where he'll only do the bare minimum to pass classes, and he isolates himself from his friends. We're explicitly shown that what he's doing isn't helping him or doing him any favors and it's only through healing from his trauma that he actually starts to get better. And he wants to do this to other students (albeit on a smaller scale) to teach them the same lesson he learned? What the hell! Who thought this was right?

(Nezu bc he authorized it but eh. That guy lives for chaos.)

I love Aizawa, really I do, but this expulsion game really isn't right.

additional important information for the quirkless kids club (can’t think of a better name) au

Happens probably uhhhh after the Cultural Festival arc bc thats always a good time for aus

Melissa is visiting from I-Island, getting away from her dad’s current court case while visiting her uncle Might which is why she’s here

While the kids are out on the town with All Might as a chaperone, some guy runs in with his quirk acting up, and miraculously, it only hits All Might, Izuku, Melissa, and Yuuga

cue BABIES

(cue also several panicked students calling Aizawa, crying and screaming, and Aizawa bracing himself for the worst time of his life)

Toshi, as he insists on being called, is 13-14 years old, Yuuga and Izuku are 4-5, Melissa is around 8

VERY early on the kids realize that everyone besides Bakugo fully believes that Toshinori, Izuku, and Yuuga have quirks. Wisely, they decide to not correct this fact. They’re kids, not stupid, and lying beats being bullied any day

Toshinori, in traditional pre teen fashion, is an asshole but only to the quirked older kids/adults. He’s an absolute angel to Izuku, Yuuga, Melissa, and Eri. He’s their big brother AND their father now. Anyone who wants to get to them has to get to HIM first. The only people he allows to get through is Nezu because he thinks Nezu is very cool and gives warm hugs, and Recovery Girl because he vaguely remembers Recovery Girl

An hour in and Toshinori has adopted Izuku as his young babiest prodigy. He holds exactly the same kind of feral energy protective that Toshinori himself holds. Toshinori likes that in a kid. 

Toshi also plans on teaching both Izuku and Yuuga how to be the best quirkless vigilantes the world has ever seen and all the laws they can get away with breaking. And since most laws pertain to quirks, there are plenty of those laws

Melissa keeps wandering into the support department because its the one place where she feels the most comfortable, and people keep kicking her out because keep thinking she’ll fall apart like glass if she stays in there for too long. Naturally, the other three boys help her break into the support department. As a reward, and because she finds it fucking hilarious, Hatsume grants them flamethrowers. Yuuga’s is bedazzled

Hatsume also gifts Yuuga a (mostly harmless) bedazzled gun. Toshi shows him how to use it on people who make fun of him

Every time some weak quirked motherfucker tries to slide in saying shit about the “powerful quirk” they totally have, Toshinori bites them. Literally every time. Except for one time someone tries to insinuate that Toshinori’s spoiled because of his powerful quirk. Then it’s Izuku who does the biting

After it’s revealed that no really, they are all actually quirkless, those same motherfuckers try to slide in saying how they totally get how they must feel. Toshinori still tries to bite them

Hound Dog can smell the distress on the kids CONSTANTLY, even from Toshinori. he’s arranging them all therapy sessions for after they turn back to normal

nezu at this point has realized that yuuga got a quirk from afo and is quickly making plans to get place him under UA’s care while getting his parents to a safe location

Bakugo is torn between guilt and annoyance constantly. he knows that whatever god is out there is giving him karma for the bullshit he pulled in the past, but dealing with these little bastards is a nightmare. also how the fuck is yuuga quirklesss?? is this an afo thing? is this an afo bullshit thing??? did yuuga get a quirk from afo??? what the FUCK–

Ok so I was going to put this after my last vague “aizawa critical” post but then my computer fucked around and then I decided that actually I wanted this to be its own post.

So today we’re going to be looking at fics tagged under All Might (or All Might related tags) and Aizawa (or Aizawa related tags).

This leads to a total of 1,022 to 1,354 or 3.0 to 4.1% of total fics that are All Might Critical/Bashing, give or take. In easier to understand terms, in every 24 to 32 All Might fics, there is 1 fic that is tagged “Yagi Toshinori | All Might Bashing” and/or “Yagi Toshinori | All Might Being an Asshole”

Seems little, right? I mean, it’s only 4.1% of fics at the very most. And its 24 to 32 regular fics with 1 negative fic. Why am I making a big deal out of this?

Now we turn to Aizawa.

There are 51,759 total works under the “Aizawa Shouta | Eraserhead” tag.

33 to 34 or 0.06% of works that feature Aizawa as a prominent character are tagged under “Aizawa Shouta | Eraserhead Bashing” 

20 to 21 or 0.038 to 0.04% of works that feature Aizawa as a prominent character are tagged under “Aizawa Shouta | Eraserhead Being an Asshole” 

As an added bonus, 57 to 58 or 0.1% of works that feature Aizawa as a prominent character are tagged under “Aizawa Shouta | Eraserhead is a Bad Teacher”

This leads to a total of 57 to 113 or 0.12 to 0.24% of total fics that are Aizawa Critical/Bashing, give or take. In easier to understand terms, in every 458 to 908 Aizawa fics, there is 1 fic that is tagged “Aizawa Shouta | Eraserhead Bashing” and/or “Aizawa Shouta | Eraserhead Being an Asshole”

(I didn’t add Yagi Toshinori | All Might is a Bad Teacher to my All Might calculations because he’s canonically a bad teacher, while Aizawa’s recognized as being a good teacher in canon, so stories about him being a bad teacher aren’t necessarily negative/bashing. If you’d like to know, there are about 350 to 351 works that feature All Might as a prominent character, or about 1%)

This means that literally and percentage-wise in relation to their total amount of fics, All Might has significantly more negative fics about him than Aizawa, despite the fact that there are more existing Aizawa fics. At the very most, all of the negative Aizawa fics INCLUDING the bad teacher fics barely make up 11% of the fics under just the “Yagi Toshinori | All Might Bashing” tag alone. And that’s a generous estimate of Aizawa’s fics not counting the bashing fics that aren’t tagged. 

To put it into perspective, there are 20 fics shown within one AO3 page. That would mean there is at least 1 “Yagi Toshinori | All Might Bashing” and/or “Yagi Toshinori | All Might Being an Asshole” fic every other page. Meanwhile it would take 22 pages at the very LEAST before you could find a fic tagged “Aizawa Shouta | Eraserhead Bashing” and/or “Aizawa Shouta | Eraserhead Being an Asshole”, and at the very most 46 pages.

Okay but “so what”, you might say. Maybe All Might tags have more positive fics than Aizawa does – if not literally, than maybe percentage-wise. Just because there are a lot of All Might bashing fics doesn’t mean there are less All Might positive fics

This is admittedly harder to research for, as there is no explicit “x is a good person” tag for them, so we’ll go with tags that positively talk about their designated role in the series. Positive tags (for these two particular characters) are under “Parental x” and “x is a Good Teacher”, since those tags are the most popular, and tend to be more completely positive for those two characters and since their main roles in the story are being parental figures and teachers.

This leads to a total of 10,836 to 12,372 or 21 to 24% of total fics that are Aizawa positive, give or take. In easier to understand terms, for every 4 Aizawa fics, there is 1 fic that is tagged “Parental Aizawa Shouta | Eraserhead” and/or “Aizawa Shouta | Eraserhead is a Good Teacher”.

And again, to put it into perspective, that would mean there are 2 “Parental Yagi Toshinori | All Might” and/or “Yagi Toshinori | All Might is a Good Teacher” fics in every page. Meanwhile there are 5 “Parental Aizawa Shouta | Eraserhead” and/or “Aizawa Shouta | Eraserhead is a Good Teacher” fics every page.

This means that the proportion of positive Aizawa fics in the Aizawa tag is significantly greater than the proportion of positive All Might fics in the All Might tag, and it is certainly significantly greater than the amount of negative Aizawa that exist in general (seriously – 58 negative Aizawa fics at the very most to 10,836 positive Aizawa fics at the very least is nothing. That’s 0.05%)

Bonus facts: 

41% of the “Parental Yagi Toshinori | All Might” are also tagged “Parental Aizawa Shouta | Eraserhead”. That means only 2,270 of those fics are dedicated to “Parental Yagi Toshinori | All Might” without them being added to or possibly overshadowed by Aizawa, or for every 2 “Parental Yagi Toshinori | All Might” fics there is 1 fic also tagged with “Parental Aizawa Shouta | Eraserhead”. 

“Parental Yagi Toshinori | All Might” only takes up 14% of the “Parental Aizawa Shouta | Eraserhead” tag. 

There are actually more “Parental Yamada Hizashi | Present Mic” fics in the “Parental Aizawa Shouta | Eraserhead” tag than All Might (2,620 or 24%). That is 43% of all fics in the “Yagi Toshinori | All Might Being an Asshole” tag, meaning 1 out of every 2 All Might asshole fics double as Aizawa positive fic.

If there are 1,354 negative All Might fics, and 4,311 positive All Might fics, that means that for every 4 positive All Might fics, there is 1 negative All Might fic, give or take. 

In the “Yagi Toshinori | All Might” tag, aside from the “Midoriya Izuku & Yagi Toshinori | All Might” relationship tag (which makes sense because they have a canon relationship those two are the main characters with the biggest relationship aside from Midoriya and Bakugo’s relationship), there are 5 relationship tags before the first mentioned relationship tag with All Might (Aizawa Shouta | Eraserhead/Yagi Toshinori | All Might). 

Aizawa’s relationships with Yamada and Midoriya are the first two relationship tags, even though Aizawa doesn’t have a romantic relationship with Yamada and Aizawa has much of a relationship with Midoriya as he does the rest of Midoriya’s class.

There are more “Aizawa Shouta | Eraserhead & Midoriya Izuku” (5,918) fics than there are “Midoriya Izuku & Yagi Toshinori | All Might” (4,473) fics even though, again, “Midoriya Izuku & Yagi Toshinori | All Might” is actually canon. That’s a 1,445 fic difference. 

And even accounting for fics that overlap between the positive and negative tags, fics that are joking, fics that aren’t tagged their respective tag, fics tagged with a similar but not the same tag, or fics that are just one-shots put into one large continuous fic doesn’t even matter.

Ultimately this wouldn’t even matter if Aizawa was supposed to be the supportive good dad figure while All Might was supposed to have a minor, slightly antagonistic role. But the fact is, is that it’s the complete opposite in canon. Aizawa has a pretty minor role, his role only upping with the backstory of Kurogiri, while All Might was the third side character introduced and has remained a support for Midoriya (the main fucking character) since the very first volume to now. 

Aizawa was originally very antagonistic towards Midoriya, hell he threatened to expel him on the first day and then plays it off as a joke. Meanwhile, All Might apologizes to Midoriya for underestimating him and looking down at him the first day they meet. 

All Might is flawed, yes, but that’s how his character is written. Yes people acknowledge he is the best and Number 1 hero, but that doesn’t change the fact that multiple characters, including All Might himself, acknowledge that he’s flawed and makes terrible mistakes and then tries to do better.

Meanwhile Aizawa’s thinking and actions have been very flawed this entire story (I mean Bakugo should have been expelled at this point even before Kamino, along with Mineta and maybe Kaminari to give them ‘death’) and he’s never been proven wrong. Even All Might butters him up by calling him nice. 

And again. I love Aizawa as a character. But fanon Aizawa and fanon All Might and how they’re written in fics are very different from their canon counterparts and I wish people would acknowledge it. Or at least acknowledge that All Might is bashed too much and Aizawa is praised too much as well

AU WHERE izuku and yuuga get deaged to 5 (after a quirkless diagnosis but before afo gives yuuga the quirk) and maybe melissa gets deaged to 8 and toshi gets deaged to 13 and they (mostly toshi and izuku) spend the entire time deaged trying to defend the four of them from everyone else bc they’re convinced that the quirked users around them will try to bully and hurt them or make fun of them and–

Actually the scene where All Might reveals that he’s quirkless to Izuku is probably the best representation of a) how much All Might knows about Izuku specifically, not as an extension of himself but as his (Izuku’s) own person, and b) All Might’s own personality and his way of thinking

All Might at this point has known Izuku for a little more than a year, and has known about his hero note taking skills since the day they first met. He knows that Izuku specifically specializes in quirk analysis. Izuku knows for a fact that OFA’s ability is not only stocking up power, but also the ability to amplify the abilities of any existing quirks that exist within the person. As someone with an interest in quirk usage as well as the next holder of the quirk, naturally Izuku would be curious about the effect it would have on himself, as well as how it would effect any quirk that All Might may have. Therefore he would ask All Might about it, therefore it would give All Might an opening to say straight up “I never had a quirk”. He simply underestimated Izuku’s ability to question him.

Another thing: All Might, while it doesn’t seem like it, is, in fact, a big doofus but most importantly, a big prankster. Like his mentor before him, and as Midoriya observes later on, All Might likes making pranks. But more importantly, All Might likes surprises. He gets excited about surprising class 1-A with an impromptu villain attack so they can show off to their parents. His first introduction to class 1-A professionally was abruptly BURSTING into the door during school. Most of him talking to people is him jumping out of nowhere and surprising them, even in his calm form he just...appears and surprises them. More recently he surprised class 1-A with some cotton candy while making a beautiful dad pun. Its only natural that he’d want his reveal as a quirkless man to be a surprise as well. He knows how much it would mean to Izuku to learn that he was also quirkless, and to make it a surprise by waiting for Izuku to ask him about his quirk, something he knows Izuku would do, would be even better.

However, when he does tell Izuku during the sports festival, Izuku’s at a very low point in his self esteem. He’s heavily doubting himself and expresses that to All Might. He’s already been doing poorly with the quirk, these past few months, and just explicitly stated that he feels unworthy of the quirk as a quirkless person, and he knows All Might could’ve given it to anyone, especially someone with a strong quirk who could do good with it. So instead of letting him stew in his self doubt for the sake of a cool surprise, he acknowledges Izuku’s feelings and says “hey, I was quirkless too”, assuring Izuku that despite him being ‘behind’, it isn’t impossible for him to get a handle on and use the quirk effectively. If All Might could become the number one hero with this quirk, Izuku could learn how to do it too, and assures him that he believes in Izuku. He lets go of the joy of the surprise for the sake of cheering Izuku up in that moment

Chapter 26 is up

Hello, fine people. It's your friendly neighborhood EJ back with a small chapter. I was gonna release it with 27 but eh I did this instead to trick myself into thinking I'm making progress and feeling better about myself.

Like I know it's short and stupid kinda (like me! * badumTISS *) but I actually liked writing this bc well (* SEE FOOTNOTE UNDER THE CUT BELOW ALL THE IMAGES ACTUALLY) I get to delve ever so briefly into Aki's character, which I don't have a lot of good spots to do in the main storyline (bonus story is meant to supplement this). So like we get to see that Aki was a singer at some point...Not like a celebrity but maybe did sing at places on occasion. Ryuuichi refers to her getting sick, presumably with something serious, maybe even life altering. Something that marks a point where Nana had come back into her life after they'd been separated. Just letting you know all of this wording and the topics are conscious choices and they will come back.

But like anyway what I liked about this is writing Aki's tiny HeteroPanic. She's always tried to be a good parent, but something she gets a little nervous about is the time when her son starts getting crushes and stuff. She doesn't know for sure but PRESUMES he's straight and will be asking for advice on girls and has been agonizing about the time coming when he's going to want this info. So she's sitting there after he says "embarrassing" going OH GOD IT'S TOO SOON!!! IM A LESBIAN!!! I DONT KNOW STRAIGHT THINGS DONT ASK ME THE THINGS!!!!

It's not like she couldn't do it, it's that she'd have to PRETEND to speak from experience, because KEY THING

the kids have NO idea she and Nana are queer (she's a lesbian and Nana is bi) and together.

And the thought of accidentally kind of REVEALING she doesn't know much about heterosexual feelings and relationships from an organic standpoint is a Tiny bit of anxiety-inducing for her, even though she would probably do just fine. I like this chapter because it kind of touches on stuff like Aki's slight insecurities as a queer parent, and just GENERAL imposter syndrome as a parent period. It also kind of highlights Ryuuichi's good relationship with his mom, that he feels comfortable talking about his problems with her and asking for advice. I hope people kind of get the feeling at this point that some of his struggle to be perfect comes not from his parents being ruthless or something, but from the fact that he actually has great parents and doesn't want to let them down (not realizing of course that...well...maybe great parents are actually OK with you being yourself!).

FOOTNOTE AS PROMISED: SO..wait I mentioned that Nana (Yuuji's mom) and Aki (Ryuuichi's mom) are together right? They're just keeping it under the radar (and there's an Arrangement TM between Ryuuichi's parents....who love each other, but not Like That). I don't really consider this a spoiler like...It's just a thing you know? I don't really like cheesy gay plot twists most of the time...I prefer to just have people be what they are OR discover it themselves along with the reader. So far I don't think I have any exceptions to this rule...The thing is like...the stereotypical Gay Plot Twist unfortunately relies on heteronormativity to work. And I've been saying from the beginning I dont really write straight characters. I mean maybe there are one or two in the background somewhere? Idk. But none of the speaking cast is straight, even if they don't know that yet and even if they don't ever put a Western Certified Approved Brand of LGBT label on it and file their certificate of Gay Enough with the board of gays.

In any case, I also already showed that they fell in love in high school before some Shit happened for a while...I mentioned there being a bonus story that's only in the print versions. That's what that is.

im tagging @gaycytharat , @mimabeann & anyone else who sees this!! 

1. Starting with basics. Who is your Outlander (which class, what their aligment)? How did they end up being frozen in carbonite for 5 years? Why did you make them the Outlander?: so as ive said before, i dont actually have a single outlander!! ive taken a character to represent every class and they all play their own part in the outlander’s story- they first come together during shadow of revan, are decided to be a strike team that kind of transcends alignments, and move on to kotet/kotfe. genetura is the jk, t’igrea is the jc, hirull is the smug, dten is the trooper, net is the inquis, annuy the wrath, heydhin the bh, and nevidas the agent. ive actually decided, carbonite wise, that only a few of them get frozen for the 5 years- and i havent decided who specifically, yet. i decided to have this group of outlanders bc i dont think the storyline really perfectly fits one class- and i like the found family aspect :3c

2. Now, to the rest of classes. What happens to them during KotFE/ET? Did they know the Outlander? Were they allies, enemies, family? Do they join the Alliance or have something else to do? Do they play a major or a minor role in the story? Spare no detail (if you wish, of course): the ocs i have aside from the main classes are sindta, irus’h, and nephret- tho i havent talked ab nephret yet :3c. sindta is a smuggler who used to be apart of hirulls crew, but splits once she becomes an official privateer. irus’h is just a regular jedi, and i havent decided on anything for nephret yet. either way- sindta becomes a pretty high rolling smuggler who is later recruited to the alliance once he finds that hirull is alive, and irus’h probably joins too- she doesnt really fit in with the other jedi.

3. What about companions? Do you follow their in-game story or have headcanons for them? Did they stay with your non-Outlander characters or not? Why?: haha Oh geez. thats a lot of companions to keep track of! i think more or less it works out in all the canon ways. this is also a question that kinda pertains to who gets frozen in carbonite and who doesnt! so. will answer some other time :)

4. If applicable: how your characters react if the Alliance joins the opposite faction on Iokath and after that? For example: how do Sith characters feel about joining the Republic? Will they stay or leave (if it's too spoiler-ish, then feel free to skip this)?: soo another canon divergent-ish thing is that. the alliance leaders believe its in their best interest to keep the alliance neutral with a republic spin, so they do plant nevidas and possibly annuy/net to be saboteurs. the rest either remain neutral, or ally with the republic. 

5. If applicable: if your Commander decides to be a saboteur, would they tell anyone (PC or companions)? Why/why not?: all of the saboteurs make their intentions known to lana and theron, but thats about it. nevidas is already with theron, so no relationship troubles there. net currently has no partner, and annuy probably tells quinn. the republic “”saboteurs”” probably dont tell their partners, though, just because theyre doing less damage to their respective faction and more.. keeping an eye on them. publicly, the alliance says that they’re siding with the republic- but that is not the case :0.

6. How would your characters react if one of their companions is exiled or dead because of Outlander's choices? For example: sith warrior's reaction if Commander doesn't save Vette?: !! my kink is an everyone lives au, and whats sexy about having 8 outlanders instead of 1- you can NEVER be shortstaffed :D annuy would go with one or two others to help vette, and heydhin would take his crew to help torian. easy peasy baby

7. If you have something written about anything from the above (bc I know some people do), share the links to your works (again, if you feel like it)!: owo i...
