Sometimes taking a look back on the past year at something I really enjoy doing helps put things in perspective. For me, it was a chance to clear my head from some of the chaos happening IRL, and to tell myself it was okay to do something just for me that makes me happy.

Fics I had the most fun writing: March With Me for SC This was a daily flash fic venture. I did not write a lot of longer fics this year. I really enjoyed the prompts for this month.

Boo! for HS I really wanted to write a Halloween fic this year. I came up with the idea of Charlie wanting to go a Halloween party with Nick as a couple, but Nick was not out yet. By dressing up, Charlie got to see what it was like going out in public as a couple, and Nick would get to see that as well.

Characters I enjoyed writing the most: I will never get tired of writing David and Stevie. I'm also really starting to like getting into Nick and Charlie's heads. And then, of course, getting the chance to write about ace characters like Maddy and Isaac made me very happy.

Biggest challenge in 2024: I moved out of my fanfic comfort zone and entered 3 writing contests. (I even moved up to the next level in one of them!)

Plans for the rest of 2024: For SC, I am currently working on the Monthly Color Drabble Challenge for December White Out. I have a Secret Santa Gift Exchange that will be posted, and I'm working on a Frozen Over fic. For HS I'd like to write a Christmas Fic.

Plans for 2025: For SC, I have 2 multi-chapter WIPS I would really like to try and finish. And continue with the drabbles. Even if I'm not in the headspace to write a one-shot, the drabbles help to keep me engaged in the fandom. For HS, I have an AU multi-chapter fic I'm working on. I may want to try a daily flash fic for HS.

Most importantly in 2025? I hope to keep writing and that I continue to enjoy it.

my favorite sounds: trains in the distance (it’s an incredibly lonely sound but it’s strangly comforting to me in a way), birds singing, rain hitting the window, the keys of a typewriter, book pages turning, cats purring, clocks ticking, the sound of leaves crunching when you step on them in autumn, the crackling sound a record makes when the needle first touches it.

now what have we learned? basically nothing! i love (a) parenthesis. titling fics is the very last thing i do and sometimes its a well thought out title that's connected to the fic and sometimes it just like, what i was listening to at the time. The Decemberists are the most represented in terms of titling but i think that's just because they're so incredibly verbose, its easy to clip something from their lyrics that seems to Say Something.

Why pressure myself to fit into a form the publishing industry wants if the idea of traditional publishing just exhausts me? So that's the plan for 2024.

Multiple Fic shorts That Work in the Same Universe as I Want Candy (Red White and Royal Blue). This will turn this universe into a series. I've started writing them. They were meant to be posted just after Halloween.

12 Days of Fandom: Day 1

I love @swearphil's gifsets. Isn't this gorgeous?

I don't know if I speak the language of gifs, but I'll try to explain what strikes me: I like the way she layers scenes and words and combines black-and-white with color here. I think it's fun to see lyrics applied to familiar characters. I feel like her gif sets are both rich with color and meaning, but simple in the way that you know what to focus on and receive a clear, strong emotional message. I'm happy to have seen new Schitt's Creek gifs from her this year!

I moved outside my comfort zone and wrote some original works that I did not want tied to SC. As a result, I did not write about SC as much as I would have liked. After much thought, I want to start writing about my ace discovery and journey because there really is not much out there for anyone struggling with being asexual. On a personal note, I feel that if I had never ventured into fic writing, I may not have had the courage to start a project like this.

15. How do you deal with writer’s block?

In no particular order: -Cry to my friends about how everything sucks and I will probably never write again -Reblog a next five fic sentences/tropes mashup/three sentence ficlets here on tumblr dot com to try to shake words loose -Look at a doc that sparks joy instead of what I'm 'supposed' to be focusing on (at the moment, this is a lot of fic instead of my original novel lmfaooooooooo) -Try to recruit a doc gremlin who will just shriek at me to try to spark some actual enjoyment -Did I mention cry lol

25. Favourite part of writing

That moment when the thing you've got in your head ACTUALLY APPEARS ON THE PAGE THE WAY YOU WANT IT TO. Fucking magic.

50. What is your WIP list up to at the current moment?

Okay. Officially, according to my Airtable tracker, my WIP list is at a mildly terrifying 62. However there are a couple of important caveats to that: -Kinktober 2024 is all one document, even though I'm planning to post as individual oneshots in a series this year. -The subscriber shindig documents are only getting added one at a time, as I finish the previous one, because pretty much all of them are getting written in one session and immediately posted. I've posted three of those so far, so the gdoc for #4 has been created and is included in the 62. Once that's done I have, uh... 56 more 👀

I feel like the people I didn't know pre-RWRB days who have looked at my AO3 and said "what the fuck do you MEAN 200 fanworks for Schitt's Creek" are finally starting to understand How I'm Like This lmfao

Courtney Act’s alter ego Shane Jenek is proudly in his underwear model era on Instagram.

The Australian performer stripped off and gave the neighbours an eyeful in the new photos (below), taken in the living room at Shane’s chic Sydney apartment.

In the post’s caption, Courtney Act quoted Moira Rose’s legendary and pertinent nude photo monologue from Schitt’s Creek.

“Allow me to offer you some advice: Take a thousand, naked pictures of yourself now,” Moira says in the iconic scene.

“You may currently think, ‘Oh, I’m too spooky,’ or, ‘Nobody wants to see these tiny boobies.’

“But, believe me, one day you will look at those photos with much kinder eyes and say, ‘Dear God, I was a beautiful thing!’

Moira (below) also adds, “Oh, and make sure you submit those photos to the Internet. Otherwise, your own children will go looking for them one day and, tragically, they won’t be there.”

Courtney Act also shared a screenshot to Instagram of her hilarious attempt to get an AI chatbot to help write a “thotty caption” for the new shots.

“I apologise, but I do not feel comfortable provided suggestions for an inappropriate or objectifying social media caption, as that would go against my principles,” the bot replied.

“Perhaps we could have a thoughtful discussion about promoting more positive, respectful messaging online.”

Thanks, but no thanks.

Courtney Act is going to Eurovision

Very soon, Courtney Act will be flying to Sweden to join Team Australia at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

The drag performer will do backstage interviews with all the Euro talent at Malmo, as well as cheering on Australia’s act, music duo Electric Fields.

Courtney is also in Brisbane towards the end of the year as ambassador of the big new Melt Open festival.

During the festival, the drag queen will also lead the inaugural River Pride Parade in November.
