🍌 In your opinion, what’s the funniest joke/reference/pun you’ve made in a fic?

Oh, gosh.

Doctor Who AU and the reference to the episode The Doctor's Wife is probably my funniest reference I've ever made in a fic.

There's a very sort of... understated joke in chapter three of Much Ado where, as part of the epistolary stuff at the start, there's a tweet from an account called Iambic Tweeter and the tweet is... well, in iambic pentameter. It's exactly the sort of thing that was so fun about twitter pre-Elon fuckery, and it didn't really get mentioned much -- which is fine, it definitely wasn't meant to be the focus of that fic lmao, but I still think it's hilarious.

I also think this line from the age gap, Senator!Alex fic is fucking hilarious: “Nora always said it was a miracle I made it through being First Son without a sex scandal. Better two decades late than never, right?”

And of course, who can forget literally everything out of Alex's mouth on the first day of Alex and Bea fake dating.

But I will say that when a friend and I had to get up at like 5am for a road trip to see another friend graduate from nursing school, she picked up the Honey Citrus Mint Tea (aka the Medicine Ball) and it was delicious, so I guess that would have to be my go-to lol.

Today I'm coming with a snippet for an upcoming fic written for Roop's Birthday. She's the one who sent me the tweet/idea (see below) since she knows I'm French-speaking :)

'Excuse my French', coming December 30.

(Fair warning Philip is a good brother in this so if it's not your thing this is not for you)

They approach Henry's door when Alex emerges from his apartment. His face brightens instantly upon seeing Henry. "Hey, Henry! Bonjour," Alex greets, his charming accent making Henry's heart flutters. Alex's curious gaze shifts to Philip. Just as Henry's brother opens his mouth to speak, Henry discreetly pinches him. "Oh, bonjour, Alex! Comment ça va aujourd'hui?" Henry says smoothly, ignoring Philip's bewildered look. "Voici mon frère, Philip." "Your brother, huh?" Alex replies, and is that a hint of relief in his voice? "Nice to meet you, man. I mean... Enchanté?" "Philip, je te présente Alex, mon voisin," Henry says to his brother, giving him a meaningful look. Philip, bless him,  catches on quickly and shakes Alex's hand. "Bonjour, Alex. Enchanté de te connaître." And because he’s a little shit, he adds, “I do also speak English. Unlike this wanker, apparently,” he finishes under his breath. Henry glares at Philip, momentarily forgetting he's not supposed to understand English. Alex chuckles. "I think he understood that one, though." Philip grins. "Oh, you know, us siblings don't need language to communicate. It's all in the tone." "I hear that. I've got an older sister myself," Alex nods. "Well, I've got to run, but it was great meeting you. Bonne journée, Henry," he adds with a playful wink. "Toi aussi, Alex," Henry manages, trying not to melt at Alex's endearing attempts at French. Philip's knowing smirk suggests he's failing miserably. As they enter Henry's flat, he makes a beeline for the kitchen, desperate for a cup of tea to fortify himself against the impending Philip Fox-Mountchristen-Windsor Inquisition. “What the absolute fuck, Henry?” Et c’est parti.

The exes-to-lovers fic that I've been teasing since April is finally live! It's fully written at around 31k words and I'll be posting twice a week for the month of November. Six Sentence Sunday

This is based on a song from one of my favourite bands called elevator love letter:

Henry’s office is on the twelfth floor of a skyscraper in Canary Wharf. There’s plenty of other offices, plenty of other people, plenty of other lost souls just like him who all make their way here every single day. Day in, day out; commute to and from the building, ride up and down the elevators. Every single bloody day. The routine is, to be frank, exhausting. And that doesn’t even include the actual work of it all.

OMG I'm back again, how about that? It's really a shame I don't have more time to write today because I was really on a roll. Thanks @wordsofhoneydew, @kiwiana-writes, @leaves-of-laurelin and @orchidscript for the tags!

“I should really shower,” Alex says without much conviction. “I’m filthy, H.” Henry just hums, and Alex feels his lips curl into a grin against his skin. “Maybe I like you filthy.” “You do, huh?” Alex asks, lifting one of his dirt and grease-stained hands to Henry’s neck. He’s very well aware that Henry’s never seemed to mind when he was a little grimy after a day of shooting, but today was particularly hot and dusty, and that’s aside from the extra dirt that makeup had added to his skin. He looks like he’s spent all day rolling around in the desert, which he has. Apparently, that’s doing it for Henry. “You want me to put streaks all over that pretty pale skin of yours? Mark you up?” He swipes his thumb over Henry’s collarbone, leaving a black smudge behind, and Henry exhales heavily. “Fuck, yes. I want that.” “Gonna make it so that everyone who sees you leaving this trailer knows that I’ve had my grimy hands all over you,” Alex murmurs, low and heated, punctuating it with a nip at the lobe of Henry’s ear as he smears more dirt around the base of his neck. That’s not how it will work out—this is Henry’s trailer, after all, and most of the rest of the crew will probably be gone by the time they shower and leave. But it still makes for a nice fantasy.  If the way his eyelids flutter shut is any indication, Henry agrees. “Please,” he groans, pressing into Alex’s touch.

WIP Wednesday

HELLO. Yes, hi. It's me. Queuing this one up early! It's been a while and I miss y'all. Writing was a real big struggle because work was Bad™—but I'm back-ish and working on a few things, including this flufftober prompt which was "haunted house". Coming this Friday (because that's the day of the prompt), scare actor Alex continues to be really bad (and really good?) at his job, especially with this one guy who keeps coming back:

Don't run, don't run, don't run. Alex thinks as if he could telepathically command this stranger, this stupidly beautiful stranger, to stay. Exchange names, maybe. Like the absolute bare minimum. He's been here enough times; it's the most committed relationship Alex has been in. The guy recovers, opens his mouth to maybe say actual words that aren't just terrorized squawking noises, and then—Nora fucking ruins it. Shit, he nearly forgot she was with him. She springs out from behind Alex, like they planned their joint-scare, a practiced bait-and-switch. The problem is: Nora surprises him, and Alex howls out a truly unmanly shout, which just dominoes the whole situation because the guy also shouts because Alex did, which means Bea unexpectedly screams, and then everyone is screaming, and it's a mess. God, Alex is so bad at his job.

15. How do you deal with writer’s block?

In no particular order: -Cry to my friends about how everything sucks and I will probably never write again -Reblog a next five fic sentences/tropes mashup/three sentence ficlets here on tumblr dot com to try to shake words loose -Look at a doc that sparks joy instead of what I'm 'supposed' to be focusing on (at the moment, this is a lot of fic instead of my original novel lmfaooooooooo) -Try to recruit a doc gremlin who will just shriek at me to try to spark some actual enjoyment -Did I mention cry lol

25. Favourite part of writing

That moment when the thing you've got in your head ACTUALLY APPEARS ON THE PAGE THE WAY YOU WANT IT TO. Fucking magic.

50. What is your WIP list up to at the current moment?

Okay. Officially, according to my Airtable tracker, my WIP list is at a mildly terrifying 62. However there are a couple of important caveats to that: -Kinktober 2024 is all one document, even though I'm planning to post as individual oneshots in a series this year. -The subscriber shindig documents are only getting added one at a time, as I finish the previous one, because pretty much all of them are getting written in one session and immediately posted. I've posted three of those so far, so the gdoc for #4 has been created and is included in the 62. Once that's done I have, uh... 56 more 👀

I feel like the people I didn't know pre-RWRB days who have looked at my AO3 and said "what the fuck do you MEAN 200 fanworks for Schitt's Creek" are finally starting to understand How I'm Like This lmfao

Or: Working under editor Henry Fox-Mountchristen was only supposed to be Step One in Alex’s plan of achieving his big dreams—but when his boss winds up facing an even bigger problem, potential deportation, Alex finds he isn’t just a beleaguered assistant anymore. He’s the solution.

It’s fine. They only have to fool his friends, and his family, the United States Government…and themselves.

Henry’s body moves above him like the tide— cresting and falling while their hips come together, while sound and breath break apart in between them, while their kisses do the same; and Henry is soft in that dip of his waist where Alex’s hands were always fated to go, but he’s hard other places, as is the way of oceans and tides— and he is there, and he is everywhere, Alex pulling them skin-to-skin, seeing nothing but blue, breathing nothing but Henry, basking in the gold morning glow of his hair as another cloud parts from Henry’s palace bedroom window.

“You don’t look like you’re having a very good time,” a soft voice suddenly startles him from his thoughts. Henry’s entire body jerks and he spills some of his drink down the front of his shirt. “Oh, bloody-” He leans over to put his drink on the table and starts wiping at his shirt. “No, I’m- It’s not that, it’s-” He glances fleetingly at the stranger and then down at his shirt again, before his brain finally registers that oh, glasses, dark curls, white smile, exposed chest. Henry’s head snaps back up and his lips part in astonishment. Handsome doesn’t even begin to cover it. Him. “Hi,” the man says, then chuckles. He hands Henry a napkin and gestures towards one of the other chairs at the table. “Would you mind?” or, Henry and Alex meet on vacation in San Francisco and an instant spark between them has both of them unable to let the other go. With only two weeks to spend together and the knowledge that it can't last beyond that, it's just a massive, insurmountable recipe for disaster. Or is it?
