Whatever the case, Shen Yuan's life would have gone from easy mode to medium or even outright hard.

one thing i really adore about togame is his word choice and how unexpectedly soft his way of phrasing sentences are. it's almost impossible to translate into english because there's no equivalent verb ending, but you can kind of tell the difference in his tone use. when you listen to sakura talk, for example, the ends of his sentences sound a little harsh and abrupt since he uses a typically informal tone; whereas togame's a lot softer (even if we account for his slower speed), and he uses a verb ending that's rather unusually rounded and unexpected of someone with a physical appearance like him. the elongated ends of his sentences exaggerate this, especially during his pre-bofurin fight when he uses that tone as a way to annoy his opponents.

and like, despite the deliciously shippable couples it has, Twinkling Watermelon is not a romcom, it’s a fantasy coming-of-age. the theme is family, the main relationship is between Eun Gyeol and his father and while their respective romantic storylines are crucial, they’re not central.

which is nice, on the one hand, because it offers a slightly different (and beautiful) kind of story, but then because instead of being [main couple] > [second couple] it’s [son and dad] > [son’s gf and mom], it ends up letting down Eun Yoo and Cheong-ah a bit and leaving their resolutions a bit rushed / open ended (you know, like how in other shows you’ll see the second couple standing together at the main characters’ wedding but no actual, solid resolution).

so the final scene of the show is primarily a bonding moment and a resolution for Yichan and Eun Gyeol, and you don’t get much of Cheongchan and a very quick last-moment wrapping up of Euneun (and like. what happened to our girls in the years in between?? we need answers!)

Well the Acro Trip anime just solidifies how I felt about the manga, it's so goddamn flimsy. The series never manages to go beyond the superficial and that's a shame because if Sawata could have actually committed to having something slightly deeper behind the gags the whole thing might have landed very differently - for me, anyway.

At least this week I can also relive something good in the Magilumiere anime, I guess. Not sure how the actual animation will stack up, but the story at least has something of value to say about work in the 21st century even if the magical girl elements veer non-traditional.

Plus Kana-chi remains adorable in all formats.

i'm sorry this is so fucking funny. that pathetic loser shakespeare who loved puns so much it cost him everything, except of course his status as the most famous, most read, most immortal english-language author of all time. but everything else, he lost and it's all because of how weak he was to resist a pun :/ pouring one out for my sad little girly man who could have had it all if only he was better at writing, the thing he is the most famous guy in the world for.

also i can't get over writing a book about the types of ambiguity and NOT INCLUDING PUNS?? sorry but puns are ambiguous! that's where their juice comes from! imagine liking ambiguity so much you write a book about it but never mention puns except to dunk on them. imagine being a POET and POETRY CRITIC who looks down on sound-based ambiguity! could not be me!!

Something really funny that's occurred to me is the way Joe talks about Maccie is like she's some catastrophic event that happened to their family "I can't believe she's been here that long." / "Everything's been different since she was born" / "Everything changed." / "She changed everything."

And it's just rlly funny to me. I want to up the dramaticness of his words at some point. And anyway, he's talking to the Samurai/Ronin for the first time and I'm wondering the impression he's getting lmao

Okay so let it be known that I haven’t actively played a Sonic game in. Years. The last one that I remember buying was Sonic Boom and we all know how much of a disaster that game was. My only true childhood Sonic game was Sonic Heroes and that’s the only one I’ll replay—otherwise I just stick to watching people lose their minds in let’s play videos.

So uhhh yeah fast forward to me watching Game Grumps play Sonic Frontiers and I was so hooked on the plot and the mechanics that I bought Sonic Frontiers I have been playing Sonic Frontiers for five hours straight it’s so fun so fun SO FUN also look at my daughter I’ve only had her for five minutes but if anything happened to her I would kill everyone in this room and then myself
