Nope, too late, once Bruce Wayne was set on something it was probably better he just pretended to be a good boyscout and tag along. Christ, why did he ever bother opening his big stupid mouth? Why did he anything for that matter? 

There was a grumble that crossed John concerning something about being owed and this definitely not being on his to-do list. Even continuing as he grabbed his coat. Was going along a bad idea? Probably, yes. Was he going to be an absolute knob about it the whole time? 

Also probably, yes. 

“Want it on record that I didn’t agree to be on me best behavior for this...” Though a thought did come to mind as he slipped the sleeves on, frowning. “... You’re not gonna make me case your idea while you watch from your fancy car, are you?” 

Actually? That was probably the most sensible and likely idea. Put the target as the bait? Perish the thought. “Fine. Whatever. Better get somethin’ nice for me birthday then...” 

Not that he was actually being serious about it. Plus, John had to admit to himself he was honestly just a bit curious to see what was waiting at the end of this effort.

Bruce leans back into his seat, a slight furrow to his brow and fingers framing his temple. An inexplicable expression on his face. A mixed fixture between amused and bemused. He couldn’t help but already begin to wonder how deeply involved he might have been with this particular event like his other stories. 

For as much as the man spoke prose and warnings, they never seemed to be in impartial counsel. And Bruce would never take John as the kind to sit himself out of trouble – whether intentional or not. 

Lips pursed thoughtfully, wading as he put it, through his own breed of shit to peruse for anyone in particular that might have a deeper cause for derision. Stocks had gone up after they had just announced a new venture into cleaner electricity options ; that wouldn’t go well with a few families. Lucius had advised him its still won’t be a few ways down the line until it’s viable regardless of how keen the investors and the public might be in the project. Greed at the expense of others is as much of a good motive as anyone in a city like GOTHAM. 

“ I know what you mean. “ He replied haphazardly, standing then. “ Let’s go then. “

The more focused he was on a different thread it seemed the less he could focus on the pull of the relic no longer in his hands. But there was still a tickle of a whisper in the back of his head. He’s still not quite sure whether that was a good or a bad thing. 

But there was a mystery afoot. 

The pull of a good puzzle was still far stronger than any antique.

sorry for the absence. funnily enough, i actually have a full time job now (and work from home!) it's both a blessing and a curse.

also, if i may just talk about something that's kinda contributed to my indefinite hiatus that was never announced lol. for some reason my "read more" button ain't working, so i'll just start after this paragraph. if you're interested read on, if not, you may scroll.

i hate what the roleplay community has become on this site. it's been really fun to make new friends and rp with characters, but if i'm really honest, the aesthetic bullshit has really REALLY made it not fun to RP on tumblr anymore. now, i am all for people having their blog the way they want it. i'm also all for the art that people create using editing software to make their icons, psds, etc. literally y'all are so talented and it's amazing what y'all can do.

what is really grinding my gears is that it's now MANDATORY for me to do the same. otherwise i'm outdated, i'm cringe, and no one wants to interact with me, save a few people that see through the superficial bullshit. for those of you who gave me a chance based on my writing and not how aesthetic my blog was, THANK YOU. y'all are not my issue here.

my issue is with the gatekeepers who think that having pretty fonts and psds make your writing that much better. those that think that just because your blog and threads look pleasing to the eye and like something you can screenshot and post to pinterest you're all of a sudden worthy of writing partners. they start leaving others out who don't partake in these aesthetics, EVEN IF THEY ARE GOOD WRITERS.

i'm not saying you have to interact with everyone. if you aren't interested in someones blog/character/etc. you don't have to reach out to them. but if you are genuinely interested in someone's character, then TURN THEM AWAY because they don't subscribe to your fancy fonts and psds, LITERALLY you can burn in hell. because seriously wtf. GROW UP.

if this loses me followers, i really could care less. i'm barely on this blog anymore and the only people who care about interacting with me know who they are, and i appreciate y'all. truly i do. y'all are why i wish i could keep writing on tumblr.

unfortunately though, here i am, announcing to a crowd of, what 2? 2 people? that i'm going on indefinite hiatus. i only hope one day people can look at writing for what it is rather than how pretty the font is. (seriously, wtf is with that?) when that day comes, y'all holla at me on tiktok, snapchat, instagram, wherever else y'all want. i'll tag em below if you want to follow me. until then, i really don't think i belong here. it's made writing on here hell.

(i got this comment on my comic over at twitter and i thought i'd repost my response here too, because i've gotten similar comments on my other socials)

these are very kind words and i accept the compliment, it makes me happy to see people are enjoying reading through it! but i have to disagree with a couple of things. i think we need to give more credit to the source material here

i am borrowing elements from the sequel. lydia's daugther, beetlejuice and lydia not seeing each other in 30 years, lydia forgetting somewhere along the way what it means to be your strange and unusual self, all of these are parallels i made to the sequel.

i strongly disagree this is how the sequel should've been done. i try to stick to canon as much as i possibly can, but the tone of this comic isn't really beetlejuice. the movie is a dark comedy first and foremost, and the sequel ticked almost every box of what it should be about

beetlejuice's character is gross and weird of course, but every iteration has depth to them. i wouldn't have been able to write this comic otherwise! i'm not really making up BJ's personality here, i'm doing a character study of what is already there, set to a different tone.

i'm saying all this because knowing this is important in order to really appreciate the story i'm presenting. there's no need to praise things i didn't actually do, haha.

i'm aware that there's many people enjoying it without knowing anything about beetlejuice, so i'm not saying you HAVE to be connoisseur or anything. but if you are, you'd notice the callbacks to the show, including the one episode a lot of this conversation is built around.

now could they fight over the right to the identity of sans??? possibly,,, but also consider this: there are literally infinite numbers of sanses in the multiverse. at some point the shiny title of Sans would be something horror and dust are used to around the multiverse!!! so why fight over the name (that so many others share already so its not exactly exclusive) when they can just decide to make each other feel better!!! be delusional TOGETHER 🤞

I think about The Seige of AR-558 all the time. It's probably one of my absolute favourite ds9 episodes (along with In Purgatory's Shadow and By Inferno's Light which can not be topped) that one part where Julian is treating the wounds of one of the star fleet officers who've been essentially abandoned in this war zone and the officer is clearly so deeply traumatised by his experiences there is one of the most poignant moments in the entire show to me. The dialogue is so good and it really reminds you that this is an actual war theyre having, not just some flashy space battle where the good guys win and then everything is fine- it's had lasting impacts on these people who star fleet is meant to protect but really they send out a group of officers to a planet and then leave them there for months longer than they were supposed to be and so utterly do not care about these people because they see them as disposable. Even after Sisko and the ds9 crew realised how awful the conditions were everyone was expected to stay there - a position too important to the federation for them to let these people go home but not important enough for them to send backup or replacement officers (I though Quarks presence in the episode was really good as well for providing a perspective of someone not in StarFleet and a lot of the things he said about human nature and the actions of the federation really reflected how I was feeling about it as well haha)

Also the music was really good

in my beautiful version i think hunt offered claire the lead role in the last duchess in 2016. i love nepotism and cronyism <- that’s their entire relationship if you think about it. but she refused it because: 1. she’s very proud and 2. she actually wanted to build her career first. i think her acting career is literally the only thing in her life that she would not take the easy road. it’s something too dear to her. and well it’s basically all she has. i think claire would hate to have her career defined as a director’s lead actress from that point on instead of a lead actress in a movie period. maybe when she’s more established he can put her in whatever film he wants to. and he will. but anyway she only accepts the role after she gets her first oscar nom in 2018. notice how his loser ass waited three years (release date in 2019)

related to this as well, i think claire would hate to be known as hunt’s something in general. that’s one of the issues she had with marrying him. i mean barely anyone knows they’re together anyway before they get engaged. i do think this is something that kinda stems from the genesis of their relationship, but it’s also a claire thing. like i said, she’s very proud. she gets his surname but you will Never see her referring to herself as Claire H*nt or using his surname in any shape or form. i won’t either. it feels super weird who even is this person. not my beautiful princess Claire Swanson

I'm halfway through the first season of One Piece and I'm so madly, deeply in love with this.

The most important part about an adaptation is staying true to the characters. Not only do these actors perfectly capture the personalities and quirks of the Strawhats, they also look perfect. The fact that this adaptation didn't shy away from the anime hair colors is impeccable to me, I love that so much. Not to mention the accurate casting according to what Oda-san once said the characters would correspond to in our real world.

The costumes? This is... this is like watching a cosplay gathering, honestly? The most source material accurate costumes I've ever seen in an adaptation, I think? Down to the little details! I mean, they could have gone off-script beyond the most iconic costumes of the main cast but every little costume detail I recognize from the anime makes me so overjoyed.

The dynamic between the actors. Oh, it's also been a hot minute since I rewatched the anime from the start so seeing them all start out as freshlings, getting to know each other, it's such a joy.

It's also just the little details, like hearings Bink's Sake in episode two?

This feels, fundamentally, like something made by someone who really knows and loves One Piece - and that's more than you can say about most adaptations.

And the effects look good too! I mean, of course does the stretchy lad look weird because humans aren't supposed to be able to do that, but him, Buggy coming apart and back together, the Sea King? All the weird anime-things that are easy to incorporate in animation, they're... working?

I'm also in love with the fights. And that's a genuinely baffling thing to say for me, because I hate fight scenes. So much. I'm known to just skip forward during Lord of the Rings rewatches when there's fighting, I always zone out when movies or shows have fighting sequences, but something about the way these are choreographed makes it really exciting to watch because they feel more like, I don't know, dancing? In that they're interesting to watch and not boring punch-punch violence?

I am having the time of my life watching this. I'm enjoying every minute of this show. I thought, at best, this would be a good laugh - because how can you adapt OP with actors - but... they made an adaptation faithful to both characters and plot, and they made it fun to watch and I'm baffled and excited and grateful for that, because how did I get lucky enough that my favorite anime of all time is the... first anime in history (known to me) to get a good American live-action adaptation?
