“Alastair. Alastair had saved matthews life.”
and do we ever get either of their povs about this? no we don’t. I’m not saying stop in the middle of a battle and have a deep discussion about their whole thing
but I honestly forgot that Alastair saved matthews life. but I mean, alastair gets no mention of trying to help Matthew and their whole feud gets thrown to the side. I’m sorry but it’s been at the center for about two books and now we’re just going to forget it?
and that’s why the battle should have started in the beginning of chain of thorns. because this other stuff could have been handled and had more time at the end. everything is rushed because CC thought it would be fun to waste 400+ pages on Cordelia James Matthew Lucie not communicating.
all the important stuff from Alastair’s trauma, matthews childhood to what he has bottled in, matthews drinking, Charles treatment of Alastair, Charles telling the clave he’s gay and that he was blackmailed, James trauma, grace becoming their friend, how Jesse is doing after his shit mother, how Thomas is after losing a sister brother/cousin/bff all in the span of a year, how Gabriel is doing after losing a child, how Gideon is after losing a daughter, thomastair together, Ari losing two families technically but with Anna and actually watching Anna mature and have conversations with her about their life, and much more that I’m forgetting. all of this stuff is quickly “wrapped up” in less than 50 pages but it could have been spanned out in 800 pages if CC didn’t waste those pages
I’m not sorry because who truly wants to read 400+ of why James Cordelia have pity or see Matthew get pushed to the side or why Lucie and Cordelia shouldn’t be parabatai???? it really didn’t need to last half the book. because now a battle, the aftermath, everyone’s experiences and trauma is rushed in three hundred pages and we’re all left unsatisfied
and no one actually talks about what Alastair and Thomas go through and all Alastair has done for his friends. Cordelia is hardly a sister to him (YES IT MAKES ME MAD) and Alastair has so much that he’s bottled and PLEASE LET THIS MAN HEAL ALREADY. but in my heart, Thomas is there supporting him, and he’s got Gideon + Sophie + Gabriel + Cecily being there for him. they all know what it’s like to lose a childhood and they will all support and love Alastair 🥹 just such a waste that Alastair never gets any credit and a lot of his and Thomas’s stuff gets pushed to the side just so we can read about boring James and Cordelia ewwwwwww (if you’re a Cordelia and James fan I’m sorry but if the writing were better, I could possibly get on board) it’s just not fair to leave everyone out just so we can read about them
#anti cassandra clare#anti cc#just my stupid opinions#thomas lightwood#alastair carstairs#it’s not really anti James and Cordelia but I don’t like them#Cordelia is a bad sister and I won’t apologize for saying it#Alastair deserves better#Thomas deserves better#thomastair deserved better#i will endure for thomastair#imagine the thomastair content#like Alastair just gets left behind basically#not saying that Matthew has to thank Alastair profusely for saving his life but a mention would be nice#like I see Alastair doing so much for Matthew but what has Matthew done for him#and I don’t want to see anyone saying but Alastair was mean to Matthew#but no one made Matthew buy that potion and give it to Charlotte#and Alastair has done so much to prove he’s worthy to the merry thieves#like I’m sorry but some of them act like they’re better#not Thomas but Matthew and James kinda do#as if they’ve never made a mistake

Hey! Can I request a fic where one of James and Matthew's friends walk in on them kissing/making out? I think it would simply be hilarious 😂 love your work ❤️
Hiii, I LOVED this idea! xD I loved it so much I couldn't decide which friend to use, so I decided to write my first "5+1" fic. Hope you like it!
~~**~~
In hindsight, their club room was probably not the best place for it, but with Thomas out on patrol and Kit glued to his main lab at the Consul's house, a sudden stretch of free time alone and a perfectly good bed in the adjoining room, they simply couldn't resist.
Matthew's coat and shirt were on the floor and he was halfway through the buttons on James's shirt when it happened. It was hard to hear anything else over the sounds of kisses and heavy breathing, but a sudden voice in the room was pretty hard to miss.
"Oh, apologies, I thought no one was here."
The sudden scare made they jump so high it was a wonder neither of them fell off the bed, but it did cause their teeth to clash and made them both groan in pain.
When Matthew caught his bearings, Kit was already kneeling on a corner of the room, rummaging through some boxes.
"Kit, what are you doing here?"
"Don't mind me, I ran out of willow sap and remembered I had some more here somewhere. I'll be gone in a jiffy."
"It's kinda hard not to mind you at the moment," James said, still covering his hurt mouth, but Kit either didn't hear him or paid him no mind.
"I swear it was somewhere around here."
James and Matthew shared a look and gave up in one deep sigh.
"What is it you are looking for, again?" Matthew asked, rolling out of bed. "We'll help you."
~**~ They hadn't meant to start anything in the training room, but, well, kisses were always a good way to motivate Matthew to actually finish the whole set of exercises; and when Matthew managed to cleverly pin James to the floor while they sparred, the only acceptable payback was for him to use his legs to pin Matthew even closer.
The light kisses among laughter grew deeper, hands tangling in clothes and hair. Matthew bit down on James's bottom lip and he gasped, both forgetting everything that weren't each other and that moment.
"Bloody hell!"
Their heads turned in sync to see Alastair covering his eyes and Thomas shaking his head at them from the training room entrance.
"Come on, guys, again?" He asked, almost drowned by Alastair bemoaning "My eyes! My eyes!"
Matthew waved his hand dismissively at him. "What's the problem? Have you never seen a kiss before? Tom, you should show him sometime."
Alastair glared daggers at him.
"Just because I don't want to see you sucking each other's faces off in the training room, doesn't mean I don't know how to kiss."
"Well, and I don't want to see y-" His retort was cut in half as James covered his mouth with his hand, trading looks with Thomas. They were always worried that Matthew and Alastair's newly-found friendly banter would revert to un-friendly banter if left unattended.
"Sorry, we got carried away. We'll be leaving now, there was a book I needed to check at the library anyway. Have a nice training."
He pulled Matthew to his feet and out of the training room before he could say anything else, but not before him and Alastair had a chance to stick their tongues out at each other one last time.
Some things never changed.
~**~
It was not surprising that it happened at the library; they spent a great deal of their time in the library, it was bound that on occasion that time was spent on things other than reading.
Besides, they were both still high on the feelings brought by their interrupted rendez-vous at the training room. So rather than searching for his intended book, James dragged Matthew all the way to one of the shelves on the deeper end of the library, pushed him against it, and kissed him again.
Matthew moaned, never one to complain about more kisses, and pulled James even closer, relishing in the heat and friction between their bodies. James' bottom lip was still red from the earlier bite so he took his payback by lowering his head and starting to bite and suck a pretty mark right over Matthew's shirt collar.
"Cahem." The sound of someone clearing their throats sent James back so fast he hit his back on the opposing shelf. He recognised that voice.
"Sorry to interrupt your... Joyous merry-making." Lucie sounded simultaneously extremely amused and not the least bit sorry. "But Matthew's left elbow is blocking precisely the way to the book I needed."
Matthew rushed out of the way, but James dusted himself, clutching at his dignity. "Aren't proper ladies supposed to not snoop and stare?"
Lucie lifted an eyebrow.
"Do you really want to lecture me over what's proper, Jamie? Besides, you should be thanking me. Mama wanted to come herself, but I offered to come get the book for her, as the dutiful daughter I am."
The mention of their mother and the close-call dampened any fighting spirit James still had.
"Well... Next time, just make up an excuse why you couldn't get the book," he said, already walking around her.
"Next time? How often do you and Matthew sneak around the library, anyway?"
He ignored her and hurried away to go find Matthew.
~**~
Even without drinking, Matthew still enjoyed visiting the Ruelle from time to time. He liked the freedom, the music and poetry, he liked meeting like-minded people and talking about his feelings with others that wouldn't judge or condemn.
He also greatly enjoyed that they had multiple, private rooms.
Absence makes the heart grow fonder seemed to also work with other things, desperation fuelling their movements until next thing Matthew knew he was sitting on a table with James between his legs and both their torsos bare. He could have wept with joy when he finally managed to unbuckle James' belt, but...
"Oh, bloody hell."
The expression and voice sent spidery goosebumps crawling up Matthew's back and he dropped his head to James' shoulder, mentally cursing Angel and Hell and Earth before looking up to glare daggers at his brother.
"Charles, what in the name of the bloody Angel are you even doing here?"
Charles puffed up, trying to look as authoritative as possible while looking at every corner of the room except the two of them.
"I have a diplomatic meeting with Hypatia Vex."
"Does this look like Hypatia's office to you?"
"I was directed here by one of the club members."
"Who were obviously trying to mess with both of us. What are you still doing there? Get out!"
"Actually, I am preferring to conduct my businesses from this room lately. It's less... restrictive." Hypatia's voice sounded from behind Charles. A folded fan over her lips did nothing to hide her amused smirk. "You two are welcome to stay and provide suitable ambient noise."
Matthew and Charles' equally disgruntled faces for once betrayed they were brothers.
The boys hurried to get out of the room, with Matthew only stopping briefly to gather their discarded clothes and make a slight bow to Hypatia before disappearing down the hallway.
~**~
Matthew's flat was such an obvious answer they could have kicked themselves for not thinking of it sooner, even if Matthew spent so little time there now it tended to slip even his mind most of the time.
Hardly had he turned the key on the lock when their lips met, legs tangling in an off-beat waltz that ended in an ungraceful fall to the fluffy and warm rug on Matthew's living room. James braced Matthew's fall, but, even out of breath, the last thing he would mind at the moment was the feeling of Matthew's full weight on top of him.
Hands roamed and caressed haphazardly. They had all the time in the world but no time at all. Perhaps later there would be subtleties and niceties, but for now...
"You know, you'll get carpet burn if you keep doing that there."
They should probably be used to it by now, but the idea of being interrupted even there was so improbable it made them jump again as if it was that first time back at the club. They rolled over in disbelief, no clothes even off yet, and stared in shock at Anna's face over the couch.
"How in Edom-" James started, at the same time Matthew asked:
"What are you doing here?"
Anna only raised an eyebrow at them.
"You gave me the spare key and asked me to come take Oscar out for his night walk because you would be out late and your neighbour was busy. Speaking of which."
She let go of Oscar's leash, and the golden retriever - having picked up on Matthew's scent - came running and jumped on top of his owner, wagging his tail and licking Matthew's and James' faces where he could reach them.
"We took quite a long walk, it's not my fault you boys have bad timing. Good night."
Task accomplished, she turned around and left, but with Oscar zooming around them, Matthew and James just exchanged a look and gave up.
~**~
"Come on, Jamie, it's almost time!"
"I'm right behind you."
They both emerged from the door on the roof of the Institute with plenty of time to spare, but it always made James chuckles to see how giddy Matthew got with these things.
Just as they had done on the night before their parabatai ceremony - and then countless nights after that - they laid together on the roof to watch the shooting stars.
The sky wasn't as clear as in Idris, but Matthew never minded it as long as there were no clouds and he had James with him. When the first line crossed the sky, he reached out and took James' hand.
"I'll never get tired of this."
"It's beautiful", James agreed, eyes fixed on Matthew.
"At least look at the sky before you say that, silly."
"You know your happy face is more beautiful to me than all the stars in the sky."
It wasn't always James got to render Matthew speechless, so he relished the small victory, firmly holding Matthew's hand when he tried to pull it away to cover his red face, but all it got was Matthew using his other hand for that.
"Ahh, now you ruined my view."
"I already told you to look at the stars for that."
"No, I don't think I will."
James rolled over until he was on top of Matthew, hovering over him until he lowered his hand.
"Someday it's going to get through your head that you are the most precious thing in the world to me."
"I'm... Working on it."
"Here, let me help."
They kissed until they were the only thing on each other's worlds, and that night - like many nights before - they made love under the stars.

tlh cast going ice skating, because it's that time of the year 🌨️⛸️
cordelia: incredible, an absolute queen, no one is doing it like her. she's a combination of natural skills, immaculate technique and that extremely elegant bearing that just carstairs own. everyone looks at her in awe (especially james), like 'can't believe she's a professional ice skater and we didn't know? this girl is insane'
james: he's fairly good, of course nothing to do with cordelia, but he handles it. he is content of going around the rink two, three times...but then he gets easily bored. this of course unless cordelia skates on his side...then he could spend hours ice skating and simping for his wife.
christopher: read a bunch of books about ice skating, took a little look at the rink, checked the ice's thickness and consistency and...fell at the first step on ice. but after that first slip he actually learns pretty quickly and everyone is kind of amazed. he even manages to do some little jumps emulating cordelia.
grace: she's trying, she's really trying, but ice skating is just not her thing. she remains very close to the border the whole time and refuses to take even one little step ahead. at some point christopher offers her his arm and after a little moment of hesitatation she takes it. he starts rambling about science almost immediately and the girl visibly relaxes. she even enjoys the whole experiences, since kit doesn't leave her alone for a second.
matthew: as infuriating as it is (cit alastair) he is a natural. his movements are kinda rough and he doesn't have cordelia's perfect technique, but god if he knows how to skate. he's incredibly skilled and definitely the fastest. he also acts like a little kid once he steps foot on the rink: he gets super excited, wants to make speed races all the time and skate backwards just because 'it's so fun!!' ('christopher's brother is way more mature' cit alastair pt II)
lucie: same kid attitude as matthew but less skilled. she's more on james's level but has twice fun while skating. she puts everyone in a good mood with her sparkling excitement and is basically a born motivator, like 'you can do it kit!! yeah!! that's what i was talking about!! by the angel, daisy that was awesome!!! please teach me!!!' everyone just adores her.
jesse: a fan of the border like his sister. he really didn't want to do this, but lucie's adorable face makes him do things he would have never imagined. he even learns some fundamentals after lucie drags him with her in the middle of the rink. and he also falls several times, but lucie's laugh makes it completely worth it <3
alastair: he's the only one who can keep up with cordelia. initially no one really noticed because he didn't want to draw attention, but when cordelia challenged him? no way he would just back off. so he gave his little perfect performance shocking everyone in the process. but he didn't spend much time showing off (even if he definitely could if he wanted), because he had something else to take care of.
thomas: he's that something. the man is absolutely terrified, looks at the ice rink once and immediately goes 'nope, this ain't for me'. but alastair insists like 'c'mon tom, just give it a try' 'why can't i just look at you being perfect on those skates?' 'i don't want to force you...but wouldn't it be nice if you at least try it once?' '*violently puts the skates on* UGH FINE.' worst decision of his life, instantly regrets it. he grips on alastair's jacket all the time like he's going to die at any moment and when alastair finally convinces him that he's got it and he's not going to fall- thomas falls. completely on alastair.
bonus for thomastair because i am a clown:
thomas: *apologizing in every possible language, regretting all his life decisions, thinking he's somehow caused brain damage to alastair with that fall*
alastair: *lying on this back with thomas's body pressed on him, noticing little snowflakes stuck in thomas's hair, looking at thomas's red cheeks, lingering on thomas's lips moving, thomas's lips moving, thomas's lips, thomas's lips, thomas-*
matthew passing by and taking one (1) look at them: if you start making out now, i will not hang out with you two ever again.

Okay Judean Beauty Contest time 🤣 which of the disciples as portrayed in the Chosen TV show do you find most attractive?
If you don't watch the show feel free to look at the pics below and give your vote.
And we're talking in show here because some of them are more attractive out of character (George Xanthis is much cuter than John imo) and some of them are cuter in character (Z is much more handsome than Alaa Safi sorry)
*yes I realize Yoshi Barrigas no longer plays Philip but he's the Philip we've had the most of on screen kinda like Abe's Big James so that's who I'm going with

You finish ChoT? ❤️
I really wanted to talk about my thoughts on Chain of Thorns BUT I JUST COULDN'T GET. THEM. TOGETHER.
(But I promised you I would) So I searched anti chain of thorns and then regretted it.
Overall, I LOVED ITTT!!
I WANT MORE (MAINLY MORE JORDELIA)
SO...Here are things I loved, I wanted more of ect ect, as less scattered as possible, anyway:
(Wow this got long.)
I am glad Jesse wasn't punished for being Tatiana's son but also (especially) Lucie for necromancy.
Also kinda sad that Lucie and James couldn't use their powers anymore. (Or well ,mostly, James his gun) but I get why (and now Kit will get to have the gun in TWP, if I remember the spoilers for SoBH I've read correctly, which is pretty cool)
WE DIDN'T GET CORDELIA AND LUCIE'S PARABATAI CEREMONY??? idc if it was completely uneventful I still want it. Cassie you let me down.
On the topic of things we didn't get, here are two more: Matthew telling his family about his secret FROM HIS PERSPECTIVE (and not just a mention through Cordelia) same for Will and Tess learning about the gracelet and more specifically I would have LOVED a Will and Cordelia scene (like Will saying "thanks for taking care of my son" and ruffle her hair like he wanted to in the wedding).
Oh and also Alastair coming out to Sona with Cordelia reacting the same way Eugenia did with Thomas would have been WHOLESOME.
I'd also like to say I'd have loved a scene where James and Cordie played chess and/or woke up in the same bed but fingers crossed that will be in the Better in Black short story (the book which I feel compelled to remind I am not getting but it will hopefully be published soon enough. Hopefully.)
I was SO SCARED Alastair and Thomas wouldn't end up together, THANK GOD I was wrong.
Arianna? Yeah ok pretty cool. Can't be the least bit mad at Ari for what happened at GoTSM.
FAIRSTAIRS IN PARIS OMFG??? Should they have ended up together? No bUT am I happy they kissed a bit? YES???! AND THEN JAMES CAME DJSBFNDNFNCNDF
I didn't mind Cordelia killing Tatiana. There was no one else who could have done it. Grace definitely couldn't have (except if she wanted to be as dead as Christopher or Tatiana to escape) and James already killed Belial so that'd be too much for one person. AND JAMES KILLED BELIAL!! James's will was as strong as a Prince of Hell and STRONGER which WE DON'T TALK ENOUGH ABOUT (and we do occasionally talk about it)!!!!
CHRISTOPHER DIED AND WASN'T GRIEVED ENOUGH. which isn't necessarily a bad thing considering it would have broken my heart much more. ALTHOUGH, I can't remember James grieving him, and that is. Other than that we saw the impact his death had on everyone, we saw Anna grieving, Grace, Matthew thinking about him and even Cordelia shedding tears and hugging James and that is enough.
Oh also, I find that I cannot hate Grace. She helped Cordelia A LOT by telling her about what she'd done considering James' was being a stuck-up "ahmag" at the time. (Which Thomas is pretty sure means idiot in Persian and I trust him)
Also, I feel like I want more of the characters as a group, you know, banter and meetings at the devil tavern.Like, they are SUCH a nice group. Their characters are AMAZING but I feel like (other than to fight) we didn't see them interact with each other enough. (Except ,obviously, the couples)
Other than that pretty content??
No hate, I am sad I finished the book these are just things I wished we'd gotten, but one can't have everything and this gives me content for daydreaming lol
(I wrote this a while ago idk if it makes sense)
#if you dont want to read all of it thats okay#tsc#the shadowhunter chronicles#the last hours#tlh#chain of thorns

you know how you wrote about the disciples being jealous? How about them reacting to reader being jealous? ((:
Name: Careful
Parring: ten disciples x reader (Thomas and Peter not included)
Pronouns: none used
Warnings: reader being jealous, no use of (y/n)
Type: Headcannon
Judas: This man cannot tell anything to save his life. He's too busy talking to one of the other disciples, and you want attention. You have to forcefully pull on his arm to get his attention.
Nathaniel: This man doesn't give a crap, and will find it hilarious that you're fuming that he's not giving you attention. Not getting attention = you're clingy. He finds that a win, so will now do it more often.
Matthew: Has zero social cues, and cannot tell. Even if you spell it out for him. He will be confused.
Big James: He can tell, and he cares, but chooses to not say anything because he doesn't want to go there.
Little James: He's too sweet, and if you two are friends, he's giving you the needed amount of attention.
Simon Z: This man is a zealot, and he can practically read your mind. He cares, and subtly gives you attention when needed.
Andrew: Can he tell? No. Does he try? Yes. Does it make your jealousy worse? Yes.
Philip: You can just start to ask to hang out with him and his attention is 100% on you, ready to make memories and have fun.
Thaddeus: I feel like he can be an overthinker, so he tries to tell when, but then overthinks it and believes that you want is attention all the time and gets a little stressed, but you find the happy medium thanks to Jesus.
John: He can tell, and finds it kinda funny. He'll keep making you jealous, but gives you a lot of attention afterwards to make up for it.

back again cause I'm curious as someone who's clued on to the finer details of neurodivergence do you think that james' character changed too weirdly between midnight heir and tlh? like I'm adamant these are just different sides of him brought out by different circumstances (and we see in cog and cot some aspects of the former) but he's always struck me as the 'high masking til he can't anymore then the insecurities about not being kind enough and not being fun enough kinda snap him into the opposite I-really-don't-care-anymore-about-being-responsible-for-everyone-and-everything mode' type and like I don't know if I'd catch that either if I didn't know people (myself included, sometimes) like that. what do you think?
So I have a lot of thoughts on this, and I've seen the posts floating around about how short-story James and TLH James are two different characters.
On a surface level, I'm inclined to agree that they look very different. And yet, on a deeper level, they're clearly the same person. You are correct.
Nothing But Shadows
In the case of NBS, I've always been inclined to believe that this is just James Younger.
It's here that I want to note that NBS James reads, and always has read, as autistic to me (in the same way that Matthew has read as bipolar since that story). He exhibits many autistic traits, including:
Awkwardness in social situations
A desire to avoid situations like this (he literally just wants to find a corner to read in most of the time)
His heavy-handed discomfort with Matthew that definitely stems in part from his extraversion
Difficulty expressing himself (both pre-NBS at Hatchards and during NBS in all of his encounters with the mundane students as well as Alastair + the mean boys)
Special interests in reading and storytelling
NBS James hasn't really grown into himself yet, and he's been consistently sheltered. He doesn't have a close friend group yet, and that develops in NBS. We see him even over the course of the story become bolder as he engages with Matthew (and Thomas and Kit, though I'm inclined to believe that most of his newfound boldness comes from the extravert that adopted him). By the end, he's still insecure and quiet, which is a natural product of what happened to him at school. But he's also a bit more open, at least with the other Thieves.
This could be James opening up, but I definitely do agree that there could be a component of masking here. As someone who masks, I generally eventually drop it when I spend enough time with someone and come to trust them. It seems likely that James would drop the masking after a while of coming to know Matthew. We'll never really know which of these options it is, I don't think. I believe it's both.
Cast Long Shadows & Notes on the Timeline
I want to talk about CLS too and TMH, but the timeline of the bracelet is murky. In NBS, there's a reference to him knowing Grace, loving Grace, and even wearing the bracelet (he touches it once). But in ChoG, the Days Past show him getting the bracelet in 1900.
@layla-carstairs posted earlier about how timelines in TLH make little sense if you think about them for a while, which is a general fact. Charles and Alastair's relationship has a murky beginning date, which I can unpack in a different post, and Thomas is canonically 18 for over a year. THAT BEING SAID, Cassie once said that what's in the books superseded the short stories (which is also why I think Charles and Alastair have been together since at least 1900, probably 1899).
So, I'm going to work under the assumption that James was given the bracelet in 1900.
The James of CLS is bolder, more mature than the James of NBS. Makes sense, considering he now has close friends and is just generally growing up! And yet, he also feels closed off and muted. I think this may simply be the bracelet's handiwork.
The Bracelet and Masking
Since we're talking about neurodivergence here, I think it's also interesting to consider the bracelet as an allegory/metaphor for neurodivergence. I highly doubt that this was Cassie's intention, but I have definitely thought of this in passing before.
Cordelia literally calls James' well-composed face The Mask. She talks about there being two different Jameses, and during the course of her discussing this, he is almost always wearing the bracelet. So, he definitely has some personal masking going on while wearing it as well as its effects of muting his character.
The Midnight Heir & TLH
I think of the bracelet as something of a neutralizer. I don't think it gets rid of James' personality. But I think that it mutes him. It takes his wilder traits and suppresses them, and makes them much calmer and less prominent. We see this in ChoG and ChoT; he's far more passionate and open in these books when the bracelet is removed. He feels more like the James of NBS would feel after growing into himself.
But, on another level, James in ChoT after removing the bracelet feels more neurodivergent. This is very likely because of the trauma of having a) coped with the bracelet, and b) knowing what happened to him (which was literally years-long emotional and sexual abuse. Thanks, Tatiana).
He definitely has some form of cPTSD, as most of the TLH characters do. People with cPTSD (like myself) often exhibit additional ambiguously-neurodivergent traits that are difficult to diagnose and pin down. (Alastair and Grace are amazing examples of this, because I fully believe that their neurodivergent-feeling comes exclusively from PTSD. I don't think this is the case for other characters like Matthew or Thomas or James. Alastair and Grace are special cases).
ANYWAY, re: James, this belief is bolstered for me by the fact that James does not want to be pitied and also feels that he's reliving the bracelet experience whenever he talks about it. He seems agitated in a similar way that he did in TMH; he shoots things again; he's more fiery, more hotheaded, more honest. He's got more Will in him than Jem, which is how he feels in TMH.
This is also the point where I note that James thought Grace had left him in TMH. I think he was still wearing the bracelet, but Grace's telling him it wasn't going to work would surely have short-circuited Bracelet James.
I think that, as time goes on, James is going to embrace these traits more. He's going to be who he really is rather than that muted version of James.
A Small Note on James and TLH
One of the hardest-to-stomach things about TLH is the fact that we do not truly know James. Even at the end of it, we have just met the truth of him. For the vast majority of the trilogy, we have only known this muted version of James that has hidden the brighter, more vibrant brushstrokes underneath him.
This is why I'm hesitant to call James boring. I don't find him an interesting character in TLH, but I also understand that we never meet him, not really.
It's interesting to note how James and Matthew's stories mirror each other a bit here; we're just now getting to know Matthew when he's not under the influence of alcohol. (I'm down to talk about this a bit more, btw - I've always strongly identified with Matthew. I call him myself in a different font, and I also periodically will call him my dark mirror. I probably have more insight into him than I do James because I get him, whether he's drunk of not. His actions always make sense to me even when I disagree with them, and I find him extremely interesting even when drunk. But I digress).
In any case, sorry for the ADHD, but I think that this is one of the hardest things to stomach about TLH. We don't know our main character. We've never seen how vibrant he is outside of ChoT, when he's in an unimaginably awful mental place. We will probably never get a feel for his "true" personality as an adult/adult-adjacent.
I think this is purposeful on Cassie's part, but I also don't necessarily agree that it was a good decision.
In any case, these are my thoughts, and I'm starting to ramble, so I'm closing this post. But thanks for the ask. <3

i really appreciate how you bring up 'james and matthew are spiralling together in their parabatai bond' like it's the most obvious thing ever. their friendship, since academy days, gives 'i'm hurting and this is the only person who kinda gets it and i can fully be myself around' vibes (yes matthew does withdraw with the events of cls, but the vibe's still kinda there). to me they stay relatively healthy given everything due to four lightwoods; lucie sometimes; and when cordelia comes she quickly joins the select 'i don't have to pretend around you' few for both of them. james has that just-instinctively-getting-each-other friendship with thomas which mirrors jem and will in some ways and is less one-sided. james and christopher have this neurodivergent synergy where james gives a reason for christopher to do what he loves (hey i'll try your experimental weapons) and gets new weapons and that kind of validating normalisation for him to pursue his own interests, albeit more quietly. matthew is a bit of a carer for those two and he hasn't quite broken out of that yet in tlh (a bit similar to how james is still Protective Older Brother to lucie and not quite vulnerable) but he is close with anna and does get close with eugenia. all meaning they don't go completely echo-chamber.
anyway, this is an ask and not a ramble. so i want to know where you think this goes in time to come. to me, both of them make a new friend in chain of thorns: matthew realises he and alastair actually have a lot in common and can slowly build a genuine friendship around Everything, and james discovers jesse is the Most Relatable and Admirable Person Ever (not replacing the way he relates to and admires his wife and parabatai of course, even thomas in some ways). and so the support system is going strong. i still want both of them to be in therapy and at least gaining an understanding of What Is Going On and This Might Help You Cope. but it's a good reminder of how even today that's not always accessible. you can answer this is in a christopher-positive world, i'll be nice. (and think it gives more thought fodder). keen to hear it!
also, since this is something that has been happening quite often in parabatai pairings across tsc, do you think that feelings for someone can be contagious in a way through the parabatai bond? especially when they refuse to acknowledge them so it kinda just bubbles up and takes over and neither realise it's happening to the other too? if so, bonus question, how do you think that plays out when they catch feelings for each other? is it a confidence boost that becomes Magical Mania (because i swear the buzzed feeling i had for years at a time once came from an empathy mirror like that, not quite parabatai but it was feelings for me in someone whose feelings i always felt myself) amplifying so much power within a closed system that it explodes from it and makes Angel Giants whose power might burn them to death? (and side note while we're here, given that james survived belial's Very Powerful Presence in his body and julian is assumedly descended from lucie do you think that's partially why he and emma survived being Angel Giants? and jace heavenly fire aside from his angel blood?) like i know you've talked about this parabatai curse theory, i'm just fishing for/feeding you details to take or leave.
and do you think, when they feel such discouragement and hatred towards themselves as we sometimes see (going back to heronchild now) it does the opposite--drains the energy for both of them, turning the bond into a bit of a vacuum and a rut that's many times harder to get out of--but survivable because of the company there? and also do you think that, as awful as this is, it could be harnessed somehow for mood regulation (going off bipolar matthew headcanon the fact that he always has james there to anchor him in his rapidly changing moods). then, on the flip side, do you think this could've amplified whatever went on with james in the midnight heir if matthew was similarly deranged? sorry for the long and multiple-interconnected-things ask!!
(also i did just follow you on wattpad but i rarely use it these days and will not read anything without your express permission)
okay, so: a) don't worry about the very long ask, you have given me some interesting questions, and b) i'll try my best to answer them but excuse me if it's an incoherent ramble.
i think the biggest difference between james + matthew and will + jem is that james and matthew have other people, something that will and jem do not (which is actually so sad because they do, they really do, but they can't see it). which is really good; they both have support systems, both together and individually, outside of their parabatai bond. even people they might walk on a little bit unintentionally in the process still choose to be there for them because regardless of how they're treated, they care and they're worried and there are ultimately more good memories to be made than bad ones. they're held up by their friends, by their families, by the people they love and the people they are in love with. whereas, though i'll accept other shipping and not-shipping headcanons for them, i think a lot of the weird not-wholly-platonic feeling will & jem give off is a side effect of having had nobody but each other to be anything close to open around for so long.
and i do think there's definitely a likelihood that parabatai start crushing on each others' crushes. it makes sense within a bond where one of the factors is that you're sharing emotions. and a bouncing back of their feelings for you onto yourself could definitely be something that happens when parabatai fall in love. ultimately i think the more dangerous reason that parabatai romances are prohibited is not being Angel Giants but all of the toxicity that's likely to come out of a romantic relationship between people who share this kind of a strong empathic bond. regardless of whether it makes Angel Giants or not.
and so yeah. it does make sense that when you've got parabatai who collectively have less self-esteem and/or sense of self-worth than dorothy's companions on the way to oz, they would sink into that quagmire together. i do think it could no doubt have been a factor in something like the midnight-heir-weirdness. and while i do think that you could harness it to help keep each other stable, it'd be something that would require years of practice and trial-and-error and could potentially be dangerous in the meantime.
(and we'll see)

Gracetopher Week Day 4 (and 3ish)
I've never really written for TSC or TLH, but after how strongly Chain of Thorns hit me, when I heard there was a Gracetopher week going on I couldn't really resist doing something for it. I kinda wrote this in a rush over the past few days - apologies for any errors! It's also a kind of dual submission for yesterday's prompts and today's. Partially because I didn't have it done yesterday (whoops!).
Anyway! Hope you enjoy. 😊
<><><>
When all is said and done, Christopher comes back to them.
After Belial disappeared into the heavens in a swirl of bright light, after Lilith was cast out, there was a moment of stillness in the abbey, and outside. It felt as though time was suspended, being held in place. Grace didn’t understand it, until she heard an ethereal voice in her head. Like the Silent Brothers, but… different.
What do you desire?
Afterwards, when trying to describe this moment to others, no one was really able to articulate how they understood what was happening. Only that they knew, deep down, they were being granted a very special, nearly impossible gift. It seemed the only ones truly aware of this phenomenon were their core group, scattered though they were.
Grace only had one thought. And she was certain she wasn’t the only one to think it; Anna, Thomas, James, they all recounted their own experience in a hushed sort of voice that spoke of hardly daring to hope. No one said what they’d wished for, but it was clear nevertheless.
Christopher.
The moment came to an end. The sky returned to normal, the sounds of the city and the aftermath of a battle returned. The doors to Westminster Abbey were thrown open, and the members of the Clave rushed in with a distressed clamor.
Grace exchanged dazed looks with Lucie. Jesse came over and touched her shoulder; there was a moment where he hesitated, and Grace didn’t know what to make of it.
They were swiftly bundled up by parents and aunts and uncles and brought back to the Institute. James especially was transported with care, Cordelia’s hand firmly clasped in his and Matthew trailing resolutely behind. It made Grace’s chest twinge.
Now, back in a packed Institute, Grace stands alone. Some of her friends – can she really call them friends, she wonders? Now that they are no longer bound by a bigger fight? – like Ari and Lucie take some steps toward her, but they’re intercepted by adults eager to check on them and ask a million questions. Jesse is in a cluster with Thomas, Alastair, and Thomas’ parents. Grace knows Gideon and Sophie are Jesse’s family. Technically, they should be hers too, but she has a feeling they won’t see it that way. And truthfully, the Blackthorn name hasn’t hung right on her for a long time now.
Feeling out of place and uncomfortable, Grace slips away. She has no idea where she’ll go now; with James’ parents back and likely to learn the truth of what she did to him, they probably won’t want her to stay at the Institute. Jesse might attempt to vouch for her, but she couldn’t say she was especially confident in that these days, no matter how well they worked together while London was under Belial’s control.
Until she’s kicked out, though, she has a room she can escape to. The raucous bustle of everyone downstairs gets quieter with each step she takes, though there’s a moment when the volume seems to pitch even higher, Shadowhunters yelling and crying out. It catches her, makes her freeze in place until she realizes they are sounds of joy rather than fear or pain. It truly is over this time, it seems.
Grace shuts her door firmly behind herself and leans back against it. There’s an emptiness in her chest that, while she’s always felt its existence, is sharper now. More prominent. She supposes it doesn’t take a genius to see why.
The war is over. Good prevailed over evil, and now the rebuilding can begin. But while others might see hope in the future, Grace still sees shadows that have yet to solidify into anything real. Her mother – as much of a mother as Tatiana was – is gone. She has no other family save Jesse, and he’s already made more headway in building a proper life for himself than she has. She’s barely had any training, most of the Enclave hates her, and the one true friend she seemed to gain, the one person who practically offered her a future, is dead.
A sob bubbles up in Grace’s chest at the thought of Christopher. She presses her shaking hand to her mouth, trying and failing to suppress it.
“Ave atque vale, Christopher,” she whispers to herself. She barely knows the Shadowhunter traditions, but she knows that much. And she knows he was robbed of the chance to be properly mourned, what with everything else that had been going on. He deserved so much more than he had been given.
Sometime later, after Grace moved to her bed, a knock on the door makes her sit up. She expects it’s Jesse, come to check on her and possibly offer some food. He’d been very vigilant at getting her to eat when she was working on the fire messages, and that habit likely isn’t going to go away.
She stands on unsteady feet and crosses to the door. When she opens it, though, she’s met with lavender eyes instead of green.
Christopher offers her a bright, crooked grin. “Hullo, Grace.”
Grace thinks that if she hadn’t grown up in a literal house of nightmares, she might scream. Because while Christopher isn’t a nightmare – could never be that – it isn’t right for him to be standing there before her. And she checks – he is standing, and not floating like a ghost. He looks as solid as ever, as solid as Grace herself.
(She checks that too, glancing at her hands and down at her torn, stained dress.)
“You’re -” she says, and stops. Her eyes are filling with tears, and her breaths come in rapid pants. It seems her body has caught up with what her mind cannot process, not yet.
Christopher seems unbothered by her inability to speak, though somewhat alarmed by the sudden appearance of tears. “I know it’s a shock,” he says. “I think I gave everyone the worst fright downstairs when I walked in. Anna held me so tight she might’ve bruised my ribs, and Tom nearly fainted. I know that I went away for a while, but I must say, I didn’t really expect that kind of reception upon my –”
Grace cuts him off by throwing her arms around him and pressing her face to his neck. Christopher sputters a moment in surprise before quieting and pulling her close, arms snug around her waist.
“I’m sorry,” he says, softly. “Jesse warned me that you might be startled by my appearance, but – I wanted to see you.”
Grace only hugs him tighter. A thousand emotions are racing through her right now: Disbelief, joy, grief. It is hard to reconcile the memory of his death, still so fresh, with him standing before her, once again flesh and blood.
“Are,” Christopher tentatively says. “Are you going to say anything?”
Grace takes a deep breath and pulls back only enough to properly look at him. At his spectacles, already sitting crooked on his nose, and his surprisingly delicate features.
“I missed you more than I can say,” she confesses.
Christopher smiles then, and Grace thinks she’s never seen anything quite so beautiful.
“I missed you too,” he says. “I think. It’s hard to say what happened after – well.”
Grace knows this isn’t the end of it all. Regardless of how he is now, Christopher died, and that can’t be easy for someone to come to terms with. Even now, with a sweet smile on his face, she senses some unease within him.
But that’s when Grace makes a vow to herself. As long as he wants her around, she silently vows to help him get through whatever demons he now faces (this includes the literal ones, she decides; Jesse can start her training again). He won’t have to face anything alone.
“Christopher?”
He hasn’t let go of her yet, and vice versa. She won’t be the first to pull away, propriety be damned.
“Yes, Grace?”
“If I offered my services to your lab, as a partner of sorts, what would you say?”
For a moment, that unease fades in Christopher as he lights up, his eyes shining with happiness.
“I’d say that’s a capital idea, Grace.”

Christopher's death might just be the only death in TSC I've been truly upset about.
But it's not only that I genuinely loved the character. It's just... it felt somehow a little underwhelming, the scene where he dies and after. It also didn't feel like it fulfilled a purpose, narratively speaking, though maybe that's just CC's way, I haven't been as involved in these things as of late.
I think what bothers me a bit is that Christopher was the easy choice and that feels like the only reason he died.
Cordelia and James, Lucie and Jesse? Nah, CC never kills her main characters nor their love interests, they were always safe, I didn't expect for a second for James to die after being stabbed by Cortana.
And from there she kinda trapped herself into a corner because we have Grace, who is not only one of the youngest in the cast, but also lived an awful life under an abusive mother. Matthew, similarly, has been shown struggling with his mental health and with alcoholism. Killing either of them would feel like a low blow, especially since we have the happy couples over there. Insult to injury, you could say.
And then in the case of Anna and Ari and Thomas and Alastair, it would feel unfair to kill any of them, because why do the queer couples do not get their happy endings while the straight ones do?
So if you don't want to get into any of that because you're not picking who dies from a narrative standpoint, but simply as "someone from the main cast has to die"...
That leaves only Christopher.

JAMES RANT BECAUSE HE IS GETTING ON MY DAMN NERVES
“I never loved her,” James said. “I only thought I did.” Matthew slumped in the doorway “I wish I could believe that.”, he said. “Because what it looks like is that the moment Cordelia has left you, you decided you couldn’t bear being left. I suppose no one ever has, have they? Everyone’s always loved you.” He said it with a matter of factness that was startling. “Except perhaps Grace. Perhaps that’s why you wanted her in the first place. I don’t think she’s capable of loving anyone.”
“Matthew-“ James could feel the weight of the silver bracelet as though it circled on his wrist still, though he knew perfectly well it was broken and back at Curzon Street. He wanted to protest, to explain his own innocence, but how could he do so when he hadn’t yet told Cordelia? Surely she was owed the truth first. And the thought of telling her, if garnering her pity, was still unbearable. Better to be hated than pitied- by Daisy, by Matthew-
I’m sorry but what are we doing here? James keeps going on about how Cordelia would pity him and that’s not love. so James would rather have Cordelia hate him than tell her the truth so they could be together? I don’t even ship them but mate, you’re not helping matters. here’s another:
He pushed the thought away sharply, as if he were a puncturing a soap bubble. Pity and kindness were not love. Only free choice was love; if he learned nothing else from the horror of the bracelet, he had learned that.
see, this is my problem with this whole “she will pity me” storyline. 1. it’s fucking repetitive. we already have to deal with Cordelia not wanting to be pitied so now we have to hear it from James? plus it never ends. I’m sorry but it’s such lazy writing to do this for four hundred bloody pages. like it did not need to take this long!!!!!
2. you state free choice is love but by not telling Cordelia the whole story, you’re taking her choice from her. it’s Cordelia’s choice if she wants to be with you or not. but by not telling her everything, she doesn’t have all the facts. so you are kinda taking that from her. and honestly, all their friends would support James. as Matthew said, everyone loves him because in CC world, everyone loves a herondale.
I’m sorry but I don’t get the whole point of this story. I know James or Cordelia or even Grace don’t want people to pity them but if you withhold stuff from people and choose this lifestyle, it’s not doing you any favors. and it’s honestly just fucking irritating. I get not wanting to be burdened but I feel like is a whole other thing
did we really need to go on and on and on and on and on and on about this???? literally how I felt anytime I saw the word pity. CC has ruined pity, bracelet, gold, tiger, lion, any word she has used for the herondales for me. girl is about 50 something and has made shit ton of money off these books. I think you can afford a writing class CC and also you can definitely afford therapy by now lmao
I don’t understand the whole point of this whole pity thing. it seems a waste of time to me. could’ve used that time to work on Matthew, give Thomas and Alastair more pages (THEY DESERVED MORE CONTENT), maybe I don’t know not killing Kit or actually giving him a proper death, literally anything would have sufficed. it’s the miscommunication for me. it’s the fact that you spent so many pages on the stuff that doesn’t matter as much and you rush the ending. yes, you could’ve did this storyline but it did not need this much fucking focus
and I’m not trying to be rude because I get they are going through stuff but it didn’t need this much time to work on. at least with thomastair, they had actual conversations about why they couldn’t be together at the time
James is constantly like “I love you Daisy” ok but you have to see how it looks mate. I don’t hate James but it makes it extremely hard to root for him. and this is why I can’t get into this triangle nor can I get into Cordelia and james. Matthew is the one who is hurt because we know he’s not going to be the one. it was so unnecessary and unneeded
#anti cassandra clare#anti cc#thomas lightwood#alastair carstairs#just my stupid opinions#anti James herondale#I’m anti James at this point#I’m sorry but he annoys me too much#I get they’re all going through shit but it’s so badly written#i present to you lazy writing

How are you liking all of the TLH characters and ships?
(If anyone is reading this do not send me spoilers, I'm only half way through Chain of Iron)
Honestly, I am loving them all!
My favourite characters so far are Matthew, Cordelia, Jesse, Grace and Alastair. I also do enjoy James, Anna and Lucie, although Thomas and Christopher are barely there in page so far I feel. I also find Lucie and James' powers really interesting.
As for ships, I’m very fond of Jesse and Lucie atm. I’m interested to see more of Anna and Ari and I like James and Cordelia, but I’m also vibing Matthew and Cordelia.
Honestly, as always, CC’s platonic relationships are way more compelling than the romantic ones and honestly bless her for that. I love the Carstairs family dynamics and the Merry Thieves. I am fascinated by Grace and Jesse and the levels she'll go for her brother. And ofc, James and Matthew's Parabatai bond! And despite everything James and Grace (refuse to call them a ship) is very gripping, in a I'm so curious wtf will happen when it all comes down kinda way.

I Care
John the Beloved
WC: 924(?)
Warnings: no details, but it’s insinuated that reader is attacked. John being a worried fluff ball.
There’s more contact in this one. With other’s present and a situation like this one, imma let it slide. Also, reader is kinda delirious(probs due to blood loss)
A/N: I wrote this as a gift to @multifandomsofficial I hope you like it, lovely 🥰
The only thing that they were focused on was bickering. This time it was over something Jesus had said. You couldn’t figure out why they were at each other’s throats all the time, especially when Jesus’ words seemed so subduing.
Wanting a bit of a break from the shouting, you decided to take a stroll away from the camp. It was only midday when you left, you didn’t mean to stay out so long. You had no idea that there was a Roman enforced curfew in these parts.
“Hey!”
A pit of dread rooted in your belly, but it was too late. The soldier was striding towards you with purpose and you were so far from anyone who would want to help you.
_
Simon Peter finally broke the arguments up with a few short words about wherever Jesus was, it would be better to wait until he got back to clarify what he had said. When the group had begrudgingly broken apart, they ate evening meal and went to bed.
In the morning, the crankiness got some of the men grumbling at each other again.
John tried to hold his tongue from not making a biting remark at Andrew or Simon. He glanced around for y/n. Her face always seemed to calm him down. She was nowhere to be found, odd since she was one of the first to wake up.
He turned to find Ramah.
“Have you seen y/n this morning?” He asked. Ramah shook her head.
“I don’t think I saw her last night either, I’ll go check our tent. She could still be sleeping.”
“Awe, missing y/n? What’s else is new?” Andrew sniggered.
“Shut up.” John rolled his eyes.
A few moments passed and Ramah came straight to John.
“Y/n isn’t there, Mary hasn’t seen her either.”
“When was the last time you saw her?” John asked.
“Yesterday morning? Just after Jesus left.”
“That’s when we all last saw her. Just before we started arguing.”
“Simon!?” John immediately looks for the leader. Upon finding him, he tells him that you’re missing.
Simon Peter snaps out of morning fog quickly and is splitting the group into searching parties before anyone has time to make sense of what’s going on. All he has to say is: ‘y/n is missing.” And everyone drops the arguments and grumbling.
Simon Peter split them into four groups.
Matthew, Ramah, and Thomas
Were to stay at camp, maybe you’d come back. The other three groups headed in three different directions from camp.
Thaddeus, John, Simon Z, and Mary.
Little James , Judas, Andrew, and Philip.
Nathaniel, Big James, and Simon Peter.
John lead his group, Z beside him. Thaddeus and Mary behind them kept a look out on the sides. It was late afternoon when John started losing hope.
“You should eat something, you haven’t eaten at all today.” Mary tried to speak gently. John shook his head.
“I’m not hungry and eating will slow us down.”
Thaddeus and Simon both glanced at each other and Mary shook her head;knowing that Andrew’s care for you was going to drive him mad if they didn’t find you soon. Maybe it was apparent to them, but not to John.
They’d made enough noise calling for you, John was beginning to think they’d lost you forever. The sun was starting to set and soon they wouldn’t be able to see anything. They’d have to turn back to the camp for torches. That would take way too long-
The worst case scenario, knocked the wind out of him. A dove flew up into a nearby tree, following the bird’s path from the ground led them to you.
There you laid against a tree, not far from them, your head cover stained with something darker that made John stumble, running to you. He didn’t think, he couldn’t. His heart beating out of his chest, a ringing in his ears as panic set in.
“Y/n, please be okay. What am I supposed to do without you?”
“John?” Your voice was so weak, but he nearly wept, arms reaching out and pulling you close as he knelt next to you. His chin rested on your shoulder, your face pressed into his on accident.
“I hoped we’d find you, I was so worried.”
“John, she’s bleeding.” Mary is on your other side now, you have a gash on your arm and a cut on your forehead. John inspects the forehead wound and then presses a small kiss to it.
“Do you think anything is broken?” John asks as he pulls back. You think for a second and then shake your head. “All right, love, lets get you back to camp then.”
He picks you up easily, arms under your legs and around your back.
“I was so worried,” John said as Z walked a bit in front, leading back to camp, Mary and Thaddeus bringing up the rear.
“About me?”
“Of course about you.” You blinked up at him. “You’re a valuable part of this group and I care too much not to worry.”
“You care about me?”
“Of course I-“ he took a breath when he realized he wasn’t able to take it back, nor did he want to. “Of course I care about you, way more than I should.”
There was a beat too long and he swallowed hard as you found yourself smiling up at him.
“I care about you too, John.” He looked down at you for a second and when he looked back up, he couldn’t stop smiling.

A Found Parallel
This is a random post that I decided to make because of a parallel that people may or may not have already realized, but in case you haven't, let me tell you what it is and who is who in the parallel.
But first, a question.
Have you noticed that the core four Shadowhunters in The Mortal Instruments series (Jace, Clary, Isabelle and Alec) mirrors the Merry Thieves in The Last Hours trilogy (James, Matthew, Christopher and Thomas)? Like the main core four group is composed of a Herondale, a Fairchild and two Lightwoods.
To simplify, here is the "who is who" part. Jace is the parallel of James, Clary is the parallel of Matthew, Isabelle is the parallel of Christopher and Alec is the parallel of Thomas.
I don't really know how to explain why I easily connect them with one another other than the obvious facts like both Alec and Thomas are gay, Jace and James both have golden eyes and weirdly both names start with the letter J, Matthew and Clary are both stubborn but loyal and fierce and then Isabelle and Christopher are both fascinated by things (Izzy with history of weapons and Christopher with science!).
Personality wise, they also have connections and parallels with each other. Jace and James are both like headfirst into battle, Matthew and Clary are the fierce friends who are always beside the Herondales, Isabelle and Christopher are the silent yet supportive friends and then Alec and Thomas are like the awkward sweeties who stutters in front of attractive men.
Also, I personally made up a quote that goes "It always takes a Fairchild to save a Herondale" or vice versa. It could go either way, depending on the story but I just notice that Matthew is always cautious everytime James turns into a shadow and goes into Belial's realm with him every time and in the TMI series, Clary was the one who severs Jace's connection to Jonathan (if my memory serves me right?). Like even in TID, Charlotte kinda saved Will by taking him in and my made-up quote applies to it in a sense.
Now, I kinda rambled in this, I just had to share it. Do share if you have observed some parallels between the characters of TSC from one period to another. I would really love to know.

Watchers, Listeners, and the Bible
I know, I know, most of ya'll probably don't enjoy this kinda topic, but let me explain.
If you think about it, there are quite a bit of similarities with the Watcher lore and what the bible say, so I wanna share it!
Matthew 13:1-15. Here, Jesus tells a parable, a story that helps explain a point. After He tells it, His disciples ask why He speaks in parables. Jesus explains that not everyone understands everything first hand. In verse 13: "This is why I speak in parables: Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand."
James 1:22-25. Here, it says it's one thing to hear the word, but even more to do what it says. kinda like the 'in one ear and out the other' saying.
John 20:24-29. After Jesus rose from the dead, He appeared before only 10 of His 11 disciples (Judas is dead by this time). So when the others told Thomas that Jesus is alive, he didn't believe it, saying "Unless I see the nail marks in His hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe." A week later Jesus shows up and shows Thomas His hands and side, making Thomas believe. Verse 29. "Then Jesus told him, "because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.""
Conclusion: Hearing and seeing are both important in the christian life, you hear the Word, you see what God does, but you also have to show what He has done in your life by living for Him. The Watchers make the Life games just to see what happens. The Listeners want to help the players (but don't really do anything to help).
TL;DR don't just listen or see, but do.
There is also a verse that is repeated lots of times that goes like "He who has ears, let him hear."
Just a thought I have had for quite some time, so I wanted to share it. With a picture I did to follow this.
Kinda got the idea of the colour for the 'doer' by @marsmarbles I think with they're 'speakers,' but I got lazy with colour picking!
God bless!

tlh characters as pixie hollow fairies:
cordelia- TINKER BELL. her savior complex is insane… girls who are constantly getting into Situations… however in terms of aesthetics she is sooooo fira to me. dude just trust me idk
alastair- vidia core!!!! cunt realness…. could soooo do vidia in the great fairy rescue.
lucie- do y’all know my buddy prilla. anyway literally lucie is so prilla… she’s also very silvermist in a way if you want a more well known fairy
james- kinda terrence core in the sense that he’s like. ken coded. nobody fucks with ken. james is superfluous to the appeal of the last hours. etc. sorry he’s literally a main character i’m being a bit mean but like. be serious who is reading tlh and going wow james is so interesting he’s the best character here! like no one is doing that we are here for cordelia… also he’s kind of fawn core
christopher- he is sooo bobble. guy with his silly little inventions and stupid glasses…
anna- incredibly rosetta to me in the sense that she is getting sooo many bitches. rosetta obviously is like the token girly girl though which is. the opposite of anna. but just trust me that they’re like. they’re very cuntslay in the same direction
thomas- he’s giving lily… he could sooo do lily and the pesky plant. or periwinkle or iridessa maybe. idk. i’m sticking with lily!
matthew- could do do zerina of the pirate fairy fame. don’t even need to explain myself here it’s so clear so obvious so true and real
ari- rani swag!!!!! remember when she cut off her wings so she could swim with the mermaids and get that. hair comb? whatever she was getting from the mermaids that they needed to save mother dove. anyway when rani did that…. ari soooo has that swag. just trust me!!!!!
grace- vidia swag!! again. she also gives a bit of periwinkle in an aesthetic sense. and also because EYE love her…. oh what about the cunty little winter fairy debby ryan voiced… spike! yeah that’s grace
jesse- hm. somewhat fawn core. maybe a little queen clarion realness. basically he is the embodiment of calm and patience under pressure. slay!
ok hope everyone enjoyed this incredibly niche post for an audience of just myself 🫶
