Helpless to the bass and faded light
About when she bribes you and you dance with her like a filled stadium isn't looking
》 Leah Williamson x Reader
》 words count: +1k
》 she took my arm / I don't know how it happened / we took the floor and she said
You don’t like football.
It’s quite a boring game if you stop to think about it for a moment. Two dozen and counting people running around a ball trying to kick it into a huge net.
Not something you look forward to sit through for almost two hours.
Despite your father’s best efforts, you being his only kid and his only hope to pass down his passion, the sport never managed to interest you long enough to care.
You even found yourself in the stands of your dad’s favourite club’s home more times than you’re able to remember, going beyond yourself and cheering when the other people around you did.
The things you do to make your parents proud.
How you managed to have the English captain wrapped around your finger, regardless of your well-known dislike for her biggest passion and purpose in life, is still a mystery for your families and friends.
“Pretty please, just this one”
“Oh, shut up!”, you hit her arm and push her off you, both still naked.
You can’t believe your girlfriend is actually trying to bribe you with sex, not even waiting for you to fully recover before asking to go to the game.
“No, you ruined the mood”, you state as the blonde tries to kiss you again.
The huge grin of her beautiful face is quite dangerous, she can win you over so easily and you both know it.
Leah rises off the bed to retrieve a warm cloth from the bathroom and a clean shirt from the closet. You accept her attention, she’s always caring when it comes to you, but you’re pretty sure the extra effort has a not-so-subtle second purpose.
“You can’t buy me so easily, Williamson”
She can.
“It’s a really important game, my love”
“For who?”
“For me?”, she tries as she slots herself under your open arm, a grin hidden between your neck and the pillow.
“I barely bear you playing”
“You love watching me play”
“I love you, period”
Leah knows how much you think the sport is boring, going way out of your comfort zone just to cheer her. She feels immensely supported when she finds your big smile in the stands, wrapped in one of her jerseys.
It’s not that difficult for you to sit and admire your girlfriend in her element, focusing more on her movements and attitude than paying attention to the actual game.
What you find quite annoying is enduring Arsenal’s men’s team.
The defender’s fingers on your side are slowly soothing you in a compromising position, too relaxed and smitten to keep denying her anything. You know she doesn’t need much more to lure you into her trap and, unfortunately for you, she’s perfectly aware too.
When the blonde’s lips find the particularly sensitive spot on the base of your neck, you’re doomed.
~
You’re glad your father is already dead or you’d have killed him as you take your seat in the Emirates Stadium, surrounded by the Gunners’ colours. Your girlfriend’s name on your back could be the final nail.
The things you do to make your lover happy.
“You know I love you, right?”
“You better never forget this”, you quip back.
The English captain has been looking forward to this game for weeks now, you couldn’t have been able to turn her down in spite of it all.
She doesn’t need to know though, you didn’t accept to spend one of your date nights watching the North West London derby for free.
“Maybe you will enjoy it at the end”
Nice try, you will not.
“You know, my dad was a West Ham supporter”
“Could have been worse”, she smiles at you, reaching for your hand.
Talking about your father is getting easier as time finally moves forward and your grief keeps changing its shape. Compared to the abyssal black hole it felt like the first year and a half, its progress.
Leah didn’t meet him, crushing in your life a couple of months after his passing, but she managed to find a space in your heart that keeps growing despite all your fears.
They could have hit so well, bonding over their shared passion for the sport and their never-ending determination to make you happy.
You told her some stories about him, mostly memories to make your girlfriend understand how stubborn and passionate he was about the thing he cared about.
The one thing you all have in common.
“Yeah, he used to gift me a West Ham jersey every year on Bobby Moore’s birthday”
Leah’s laugh managed to overcome the buzzing atmosphere of the stadium, making you feel like she was the reason all the people around you were cheering. You sure think so.
“He sounds like an incredible father”
“Football obsession aside, he was good”
When you turn to look at her, the blonde’s eyes are already on you and the smile on her face is enough to warm your heart.
~
The first goal coming within five minutes has you quite engaged in what’s happening on the pitch, you even drag your girlfriend in a kiss as you both rise from your seats to celebrate.
Your commitment declined quite easily after that, more entertained by Leah’s reactions than the actual game. You nod in amusement every time she tries to talk you through one of her analyses, placing a hand on her thigh to stop her from standing up every time the ball is somehow close to the box.
The second half is more eventual, at least that’s what you can understand by the excitement the defender and the people in the stands around you seem to radiate.
You’re not clueless, you’re perfectly aware a five-nil win against Chelsea is quite the result. You care enough to think you can’t wait to go home - Leah is always in the mood for a private celebration when her team triumphs, especially over another London club.
“Can we go now?”, you ask as soon as the referee whistles three times, declaring the end of your and the Blues’ torture.
Leah’s happiness is contagious, so you’re not mad when she drags you in her arms to join her cheers and enthusiastic dance. It takes you less than a second to indulge her, letting the blonde spin you around and matching her excitement.
When she dips you and seals the move with a kiss the laugh that rises out of you is genuine and loud.
At first, neither of you notice the stadium’s camera pointed in your direction, recording your little moment of pure bliss in each other’s arms.
Looking back at it, as all your friends sent you the viral video, you know Leah saw you two on the big screen and went along with her little cocky display of affection and excitement for the victory.
You’re sure your father could be laughing at it too, despite the colors you’re wearing.
fine.

A 2,000-Year-old Iron Age Gold Treasure Found in Wales
Gold coins dating back more than 2,000 years have been found by metal detectorists in Wales, making them the first hoard of Iron Age gold coins to have been discovered in the country.
The 15 coins, which have been declared treasure, are known as staters. They were found the Welsh island of Anglesey, off the northwest coast of the country’s mainland.
Struck between 60 BC and 20 BC, the coins belonged to the Corieltavi tribe, who at the time inhabited the geographical area that is now England’s East Midlands, according to a National Museum Wales press release.
The precious metals were unearthed by three metal detectorists in a field between July 2021 and March 2022.
Lloyd Roberts, who said he has been a metal detectorist for more than 14 years, found the first coin.
“Finding a gold stater was always number one on my wish list,” he said in the release, adding: “That one coin alone would have made my year, but I went on to find another on my next signal.”
Roberts said that his friend, Peter Cockton, found the next three. They then contacted the Portable Antiquities Scheme, an organization which records such historical and archaeological finds.
Tim Watson, who said he only began metal detecting following encouragement from his father during lockdown, found the sixth.
“I rushed home to show my wife and we were both in awe of this coin, which was like nothing else I had found, immaculately preserved with such unusual stylised images,” Watson said in the release.
Watson said his enthusiasm led him to upgrade his metal detector and he found the remaining nine coins in the following weeks.
‘Rich archaeological landscape’
The gold coins’ elaborate design derives from those of Philip II, who ruled the ancient kingdom of Macedonia from 359 BC to 336 BC. The heads side of the coins shows the mythological deity Apollo’s wreath and hair, while the tails side shows a triangular-headed horse surrounded by symbols.
The coins were likely not used for everyday transactions, except potentially for some high-value purchases, according to the release. Instead, the staters are thought to have been used as gifts between the elites to secure alliances or show loyalty.
Another option is that the Corieltavi tribe used them to form part of an exchange for copper, which there were sources of in various parts of the island.
The staters could also have been used as “offerings to the gods” to fulfill a vow, according to National Museum Wales. Other archaeological finds from Anglesey, as well as Roman sources referring to the island that feature pagan priests, suggest the area was an important religious center at the time.
Gwynedd Archaeological Trust visited the site in September 2021 to see if there were any clues as to why the coins were buried there.
“This hoard is a fantastic example of the rich archaeological landscape that exists in North-West Wales,” said Sean Derby, Historic Environment Record archaeologist at Gwynedd Archaeological Trust. “While the immediate vicinity of the find did not yield any clues as to the find’s origin, the findspot lies in an area of known prehistoric and early Roman activity and helps increase our understanding of this region.”
Welsh museum Oriel Môn is looking to acquire the coins and put them on public display.

Hunter's Room (Fan Design)
It is about time I finally did this, now I can make so many drawing ideas come true with a room for Hunter designed. Also, for those who read my "Timeskip Watching and Dreaming AU" series of fanfics on A03, this is what Hunter's room looks like. This room is a room in Darius' house, so yippie Dadrius.
Alright, I know the doors can be confusing to let me break this down.
The door on the south wall with the small cuckoo clock like doors is the door to exit the room. I put cuckoo doors on the door because it's for Waffles.
The door that's on the wall that's jetting out is the door to the walk-in closet
And the the door on the west wall is the door to Hunter's private bathroom.
I originally wanted to do the entire Deamonne household at once, but, no way that would take forever. Maybe I'll do parts of it in the future but for right now, NO. If I did, I'd probably do Darius' room next and the living room after that.
This took such a long time to design, and it was my first time ever designing a background completely on my own. I needed to take off the training wheels and design my own background for once, and for my first attempt, I think I did a decent job.
The only thing that I couldn't add is a ceiling fan, but that was only because of the angles I had. I'm sure I could've if I had a different angle. Im going to have to design that separately.
This took since October 20th to finish, I probably could've got it done faster, but uni kept me busy and such. Either way, now that I've finished this, I can't wait to make drawings with this room. Yay!
Alright so: Tumblr exclusive content from here on out since insta has a stupid character limit, and their cropping system sucks
I'm gonna go on an infodump to why I decided to put almost everything here in Hunter's room.
North Wall:
Bed: I decided to make the headboard and footboard a cherry colored wood because Hunter would definitely like cherry wood because it's reddish. Referencing Willow's headboard that has a flower, I changed that into a bird for Hunter. I gave him a blue blanket in reference to Waffles. I headcannon that Hunter LOVES plushies, so I gave him some plushies I'd think he'd like. He'd definitely like squishmallows, so I gave him a blue-jay, cardinal, and wolf squishmellow. I also gave him a small wolf plush, as well as a small parrot plush and a peacock plush. The Sprig plushie is special, as it's not the same one as he had in the castle. It's a life-sized one Willow won him at a carnvial. (Reference to one of my fics).
Nightable: Nothing much to say here outside of the fact that I felt like Hunter would need one. I gave him a crystal ball because I felt like he'd like one.
Desk: This is where Hunter does work, from designing clothes to sew to studying for school. He has a log of regluar wood to practice carving on. (This room is set when Hunter is still a kid early during the WAD timeskip) He also has a punch a pencils, a desk lamp, and some books on there.
Corkboard: Hunter keeps notes for his school studies, and personal projects here. Sometimes he doodles things and puts them up there, such as the wolf and birds doodles.
Wall: Hunter would 100% be that person to have a trillion posters. I gave him a Flyer Derby poster, and a hummingbird poster. The Ruler's Reach poster is actually signed by King himself. Here's also a wolf calender, since I'd figured he'd like that, and a cuckoo clock that I headcannon Hunter and Dell carved together.
Bookshelf: On the bottom shelf, Hunter keeps a bunch of random books he likes.
On the second shelf, he has a photo of Flapjack, textbooks for his abominations and potions classes, and a photo of Willow
On the third shelf, he has textbooks for his illusions, construction, wild magic, plants, beastkeeping, and runes classes.
On the forth shelf, he has a photo of Darius, textbooks for his bard, oracle, and healing classes, and a photo of Waffles.
On the top shelf, he has his two favorite books of all time, Cosmic Frontier and Ruler's Reach, specially displayed with them propped up.
Jesus, that was by far the longest description we'll have.
East Wall:
Window: Hunter has a basic window with blue curtains. I originally wanted to make the curtains space themed for Cosmic Frontier, but then realized that would be a pain to draw over and over again, so I kept it blue. Maybe I can make Hunter's shower curtain space themed instead.
Other then that, there is nothing new on this wall that I'd like to cover. (I'd rather cover things that appear on other walls in their sections)
South Wall:
Wall: Hunter has two more posters on this wall. A Cosmic Frontier Poster. This is a reference in itself, where in Star Trek, the equivalent of O'Bailey has an asian wife that is a Bontonist, and that is sorta a parrel to Huntlow. So I decided to make a headcannon design for both O'Bailey, and the Bontonist I decided to rename to Aiko. So boom. Huntlow reference. The other poster is simply a wolf poster.
Box: This is pretty self explanatory. Its a box with sewing supplies.
Mannequin: Since Hunter sews, I'd imagine he'd like to have a mannequin to help make the clothing design process easier.
Table: This is the same sewing Machine from Thanks to Them, as Camila gave it to Hunter as a gift.
West Wall:
Outside of the door of the bathroom, there is nothing new on the west wall that I haven't already covered.
Bonus:
Here is the original blueprint for the entire Deamonne household. I could go from here and design every last aspect of the house, but that would take ages. I'd definitely like to, but its just so much work. Like I said, the next two rooms I'd design are Darius' room and the living room. Plus, Hunter's room was by definition going to he the hardest, since he has the most stuff and therefore detail in his room.
For when I wanted to focus solely on Hunter's room, I referenced the upstairs blueprint snd made a more detailed blueprint just for his room. As you can see, A LOT ended up changing from this to the final version.

Anti-fascist counter demos in the UK on Wednesday the 7th and Friday the 9th of August
There are going to be a new round of anti-immigrant fascist riots in the UK on Wednesday the 7th of August and Friday the 9th. If you are able to get to one of the counter-demos, and it is safe for you to do so (and I'm including safe for your mental health; please don't push yourself too far), it's really important to go. Not only to physically stop the fascists from burning down immigration lawyers' practices or attacking Muslims in the street, but to stand up and be counted. This is a terrifying time to be an immigrant or a person of colour in the UK, and seeing the fascists outnumbered and humiliated by decent people can go some way to making it less bad.
Stay safe:
come early, well before the fascists assemble
Wear a mask, not only to avoid police surveillance but to avoid being doxxed by the fascists
Don't carry identifying information, such as credit cards, in case the police arrest you
Write the number for a protest lawyer on your arm so you won't lose it
Bring water
Bring suncream
Bring a friend if you can
Wear comfortable shoes
Stand Up to Racism has thhe best list of organised counter-demos. I wouldn't advise turning up to oppose a fascist march if you're not sure whether a counter demo has been called, but here's a list of places the far right has singled out to target on Wednesday at 8pm, so you know broadly whether your city is on the list:

On 31st October 1745 the Jacobite Army and Bonnie Prince Charlie began the march south to England.
Their initial reception in Scotland was distinctly cool. MacLeod and Macdonald of Sleat both refused to rise on the grounds that the Stuart prince had not arrived with the French invasion force they had demanded. Cameron of Lochiel and Ranald Macdonald of Clanranald urged Charles Edward to go home. The prince suavely refused, and over the course of the next three weeks persuaded Lochiel and Clanranald to bring out their clans. He did so primarily by convincing them that a Scottish rising would bring on a French invasion and that the English Jacobites would then in turn rise against the government. The 'Forty-Five proper is generally taken as having commenced when Charles Edward mustered his army of about 1500 men at Glenfinnan on 19th August.
From there the Jacobites quickly marched east and then south. The government garrison in Scotland, commanded by Sir John Cope, was weak and in large part composed of raw recruits. Cope none the less threw together a field army and marched north from Edinburgh to oppose the Jacobites. His army, however, moved slowly and its failure to pick up support from the whig clans shook Cope's confidence. In consequence he backed away from a potential battle at the Corrieyairack pass and retreated away from the Jacobites to Inverness. The Jacobite army promptly debouched from the highlands into Perthshire, picking up recruits all the time, notably Lord, David Ogilvy, Ewen Macpherson of Cluny and most importantly Lord George Murray.
By the time the army arrived before Edinburgh on 17 September it numbered about 1800. The city fell without a real fight the same day and so when Cope disembarked from the ships that had brought him back south from Aberdeen he felt obliged to offer battle in the hope of stemming the Jacobite tide.
Their numbers swelled to around 2500, they "enjoyed" victory at Prestonpans on 21st September effectively delivered most of Scotland into Jacobite hands, at least temporarily, and encouraged one cautious leading Jacobite, George Mackenzie, third earl of Cromarty and hi son John, Lord MacLeod.
The key question for the Jacobites was what to do next. Charles Edward favoured advancing into England to link up with the French army he was confident would soon invade it and bring out the English Jacobites. He finally carried the Jacobite grand council by one vote and the invasion of north-west England was launched.
The Jacobite forces were gaining recruits as they marched south, their numbers were about 6,000 men and included French, English and Irish troops. Four French ships had been despatched with weapons and supplies.
On 4th December they reached Derby, a town only 100 or so miles from London. More to come as the weeks go by.

Open your eyes - Millie Bright x reader
Request: Hey based of the Chelsea womens win yesterday ! Would I be able to do a Millie bright x reader angst please 🙏🫶🏻
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“No, NO keep your eyes open! Please babe, open your eyes” Millie cries next to you.
Earlier that day…
You turn over in bed to feel cold bed sheets. You frown and roll out of bed to meet your fluffy slippers and robe crumpled up on the floor. After securing the robe on your waist, you move downstairs to see your girlfriend of 2 years in the kitchen. You walk up behind Millie and wrap your arms around her waist, your chin on her shoulder.
“Jesus babe, you scared me”
“I’m sorry” You mumble back as you kiss the side of her neck.
“I made you coffee. I was going to bring it up to you when this was done”
“You’re cute. Thank you baby” Millie turns around and you give her a slow but passionate kiss.
As you pull away, you see the time on the clock on your wall. How is it half past 11 already. You quickly drink the luke warm coffee and grab a piece of toast before racing upstairs. You completely forgot you’d pick up your younger sister Leah and Jords on the way to the Emirates. You flip your bedroom upside down trying to find your shorts. You bend over, looking in the last drawer when you feel a sharp pain on your ass.
“Ow babe, bloody hell” You grumble standing up, giving Millie a glare.
“Looking for these” Millie holds up your shorts and you let out a relived sigh.
“Thanks baby” You take the shorts from her and give her a kiss as a thank you.
You quickly slip your shoes on and kiss Millie out the door. As you start the car up, you jump in fright as you hear a knock on your window. You turn to see Millie holding up a pair of boots.
“Thanks babe”
“What would you do without me?” Millie smirks.
“Probably die Mills. I’ll see you later okay?”
“May the best team win. I love you”
“I love you too” Millie leans in to give you a peck.
You drive to Leah and Jords’ house and they’re waiting out the front with their gym bags. You greet them as they get in and you drive to the stadium. Leah of course teases you about being late and little do you know Millie’s teammates Sam and Erin are doing the same thing. Once you get to the stadium, you all get your passes and get to the locker room.
You all get changed into your game kits, you go out for pre-game warm ups. You and Katie pass the ball back and forth for a while until the team does some small games and exercises. You look behind you and see Millie staring at you. You send her a wink and she gets hit in the face with a ball by Guro. You laugh and get called over by Katie as everyone is going in the locker room to change into the game kits. You get ready with your starting lineup, including your sister and Katie.
After the usual lineup and captain procedures, you take your position across from Sam just over the half way line. Since Beth is out. Jonás has bumped you up to forward and you are loving it but you are missing being in the midfield trio with Viv and Lia. The ref blows her whistle and the North West London derby begins. All throughout the first half Chelsea are putting up a good fight, the Arsenal forwards struggling to get past the Chelsea midfield and back line.
The ref calls for half time and the score stands a nil all. You sit on the pitch for minute and take your boots off. Frustrated with your performance, you walk into the locker room and throw your boots in your locker, hard. A few of the girls jump at your sudden outburst and you sit on the floor with your knees up to your chest and head in your hands. You listen to Jonas talk tactics and look up when needed.
When Jonás leaves, a few of the girls including Katie and Leah attempt to talk to you but you only give them one word answers. You change your socks and slip your boots back on before going back out to the field, even if there was 10 minutes left off break. You grab a ball and practice shooting from different spots. You even did some of the runs that happened in the first half. You hear the fans cheering and you kick the last ball before turning around to see everyone coming back out. You went to get the ball but the trainer said he has it. You jog back to your place and see there’s subs coming on. You look over and see Tobin coming on and Caitlin coming off.
“We’ve got this okay? Trust the process” Tobin says as she runs past you. You give her a thumbs up and the ref blows the whistle.
It comes to the second minute of extra time in the game and you are preparing for a corner kick from Steph. You assisted Tobin in her goal in the 80th and unfortunately Jessie equalised for Chelsea 5 minutes later. Steph kicks the ball and you jump up to head the ball in. When you jump, the goalkeeper attempts to punch the ball away but hits something much worse, your face. You fall straight to the ground and are instantly unconscious. Millie noticed you on the ground and thankfully the game was called.
“No, NO keep your eyes open! Please babe, open your eyes” Millie cries next to you.
Leah was on your other side and she could see you were unconscious. She and Millie both yelled for the medics and they come running over with the bags. More medics rush over with a backboard and stretcher and both Leah and Millie hold onto each other tightly.
“We need to take her to hospital now” The paramedic says and Leah and Millie both go in the ambulance.
At the hospital, they rush you in and your sister and girlfriend try to run in after but get stopped by a nurse. The national teammates get re-directed to the family waiting area, where they hold each other’s hand tightly. 10 minutes later, the rest of Arsenal and some of Chelsea’s players turn up and wait with Millie and Leah. A few minutes later, your mum Amanda and brother Jacob race through the doors asking where you are. They race over to Leah and Millie. 4 hours later and not a word has been said to Millie or Leah and the pair are becoming restless. Leah decides she’s had enough so she goes up to the nurses station.
“Hi, my sister Y/N Williamson got admitted about 4 hours ago. Is there an update?” Leah begs as the nurse types your name into the computer.
“Ah yes, she’s in surgery right now. Shouldn’t be too much longer” Leah thanks the nurse and sits back next to Millie and tells her.
“Y/N Williamson” Leah, your mum, brother and Millie run up to the doctor. Millie and Leah are still holding onto each other tight, your mum and brother doing the same.
“Y/N came in with a intracranial hematoma. We’ve performed a craniotomy to remove the hematoma. She is in the ICU and should wake up within the next few hours” The doctor explains that only a few visitors at a time and what room you are in. They all thanked the doctor and went back to tell your teammates and friends.
Millie immediately turned to your mum, brother and Leah and said they should go in first. Your mum and brother insist that Millie and Leah go first and to take as much time as you need. The national teammates walk down the hallway and turn a corner to see your room number. Leah starts to walk but Millie doesn’t. It’s like her feet are frozen to the ground.
“It’s okay Mils, I’ve got you” Leah smiles at Millie and Millie knows she going to be okay.
Both girls enter the room and gasp at the state of you. Half shaved head, many IV tubes and countless stitches on you head and face. The girls took a seat next to you and they both want to say something but nothing comes out. Leah starts to say something to you but stops herself as she bursts into tears.
“You need to have some time with her. I’l be back in the waiting room okay?” Millie nods and hugs Leah before she leaves.
“Hey beautiful girl. Remember that time we went to Italy and we got gelato. Then you turned and split it all over that kid” Millie laughs through her tears and continues to tell you stories of your latest vacation to you.
“Y-you push me”
Millie’s eyes widened and moved closer to you. She looks at your face and your eyes open to reveal your beautiful y/e/c eyes Millie loves. She holds your cheek like it’s made of glass.
“Hey baby”
“You pushed me into the kid” Millie tries to remember for a brief second then laughs a little as the memory comes back.
“I missed you. What happened?”
Millie starts to explain what happened then asks if you want to see your family. Your family rush through the door, Leah coming through first. Your mum goes next to you and tells you how scared she was, your brother does the same.
“When can we go home?” You ask Millie, looking up at her.
“You have to stay in for a few more days, then we can go home”
“Hey Mills, how about we go and have a shower, get changed and come straight back?” Leah suggests as they are both still in their game uniform.
“No, I’m not leaving her” Millie protests. You put a hand on Millie’s and she looks over at you.
“Go Mills, I’ll be okay. Plus you stink a little” Millie rolls her eyes but ultimately gives in as she can’t say no to you.
“I’ll be right back. I love you”
“I love you more” Millie leans down and kisses you softly.
When Millie and Leah leave, you turn your head to your mum and she gives you a well known smile.
“You better keep her, she’s a good one”
“Yeah, she really is” You smile, as you watch two of the most important people in your life walk away.
