i am perhaps several years (and books*) late to this but I've been wondering where the hell does Carl live. I put him in Brøndby in my latest fic** based on nothing but the vibes of his terraced house as seen in the films - a common type of house in suburbs of Copenhagen and considering the colour of the wood and bricks inside the house it's probably one of those solidly built mid-century brick houses rather than a modern one with cement and cladding - and for some reason I couldn't put my finger on, this particular one gave me a Vestegnen vibe rather than a, say, Amager vibe or Nordsjælland vibe idk. so I went with Brøndby
and now I think? I might have been right??
I was rewatching Kvinden i Buret again, as you do, and at the start of he film as the intro credits roll, we see Carl commute in on the S-train. as the train pulls away we see it's a Linje B train (that green square on the back of the train is the Linje B marker). (Copenhagen central station, KBH H, is a mere 6 minute walk from politigården.)
the interior view of the train, which I do not have a screenshot of because I kept getting a black screen for some stupid reason, shows the stops in the background but it's too blurry to make out where on the line he is so he could be coming in from the north rather than the west, but I'm choosing to believe he came from the west. he could be as far out as Albertslund but I think Brøndby is a better fit for like...his general vibe. he just doesn't seem like somebody who'd enjoy living in a snobby area, lol.
depending on where he lives in Brøndby his stop would either be Glostrup, Brøndbyøster (both Linje B) or Brøndby Strand (Linje A), but since he came in on Linje B and not Linje A (blue) and since Brøndby Strand is more of a villakvarter type area I think somewhere along the west end of Linje B makes sense. i mean he could also have been dissociating on the platform for long enough that his Linje A train has left and the next Linje B train has pulled in instead, but I don't think that's very likely
*haven't read them
**for those who don't know: Assad's argument that it's easier to get to work from Nørrebro is absolute garbage, or at least it was up until 2019! the s-train commute from Glostrup to KBH H is like 20 minutes direct but from Nørrebro you had to take 1-2 buses to get into KBH H and either way it would take you at least 30 minutes. unless you cycle, in which case you can make it in like 15 minutes, but neither Carl nor Assad strike me as cycle commuters so moot point, and driving to work when you live and work that centrally is just fucking stupid, neither of them seems to have a car either (the car they are using in the film seems to be a 'company car' even though it doesn't have yellow plates). in September 2019 the new Metro ring (Cityringen) opened which does have a direct line through Nørrebro and into KBH H and also takes about 20 minutes. in-fic by the time Assad makes that argument, I am reckoning the timeline of him convincing Carl to move in with him is in the second half of 2019, so he's right, but he also had to time his argument very very carefully lmao
#afdeling q#department q#WHY do i even care#also I put Assad on Nørrebro but it could just as well have been Østerbro or Vesterbro tbh#the view of his street we saw in Journal 64 could've been any of those three#Nørrebro is just far more multicultural than the other two which are more shall we say expensive places to live#Nørrebro is also getting gentrified but it's still somewhere you can go and there'll be a greengrocer on the corner run by a ME immigrant s

United were already out of the Premier League International Cup, but in one final game in Altrincham it was the Danish visitors conquering on English soil once again.
Travis Binnion's Reds seemed to be weirdly set up in their 4-3-3:
GK: Myles
RB: Ogunneye
CB: Jackson (c), Kukonki (Kingdon 45)
LB: Amass
DM: Kone (McAllister 62)
CM: Moorhouse (Ibragimov 62)
CM: Curley (Fitzgerald 62)
RW: Missin (Sharpe 70)
LW: Mather
CF: Obi
I describe this as weird because it didn't seem like a flat 4-3-3 but rather a staggered 2-3-2-3, with the full backs of Amass and Ogunneye pushing up aggressively. This was a problem because Nordsjaelland seemingly drifted through United's midfield at every opportunity and were left 2v2 or 3v2 against our CBs with regularity.
United's attack was decent, but without possession, and on the back foot so often, it never felt like their game to win.
Thomas Myles was busy from the off, especially with the U21s trying to play out from the back and seeming to struggle with the Danish pressing game. A couple of good saves against Nene kept the score even but a poor pass from Ogunneye (who really struggled all game) would allow Nene in. Kukonki cleared off the line for United but a lack of support and timing meant Araphat could capitalise and score to make it 1-0. Here I will criticise Ogunneye and Amass - they're full backs in this formation, not wing backs like they might prefer. Get back and defend. Kone did. Jackson and Kukonki needed help and they had 1 teammate get in there.
In classic United fashion, the visitors scored again 90 seconds later: poor passing around the back saw keeper Myles gift the ball to Nene and bag for himself this time. Not surprising given the hot prospect youngster has had I believe 9, maybe 10, Danish Superliga appearances this season. One to watch out for.
The game calmed a little and United crept back into things, but six minutes into the second half and Nordsjaelland had their third - and a second for Nene. A whipped corner found the head of Nene, the reflex hands of Myles, but his parry wasn't strong enough to keep out the low, darting header from Nordsjaelland's no9 and United were sinking without a trace.
A great Finley McAllister through ball set 17-year-old Chido Obi through on goal for a cool finish being chased by several opposition players to give United at least some consolation, but it was too rare a moment to do much in the tie and United limped out of the competition in disappointing fashion.
It should be said that typically United's U18s flourish and the U21s suffer a little, especially with the best being promoted to the first team or loaned out, and there being borrowing from the U18s to assist but adapatation still required. United were also without goal machine Gabi Biancheri, currently injured, and no doubt his movement and tenacity would have caused trouble for the Danes.

CommBank Matildas’ defenders Steph Catley and Kaitlyn Torpey will be unavailable for this weekend’s upcoming match against Canada in Marbella, Spain.
Australia will host world number eight Canada on Saturday, 13 July 2024 (local) at 9.00pm CEST in their final hit out before the Paris 2024™ Olympic Games.
Catley will continue to rehabilitate following a lower leg injury sustained prior to arriving in Australia’s extended training camp last week.
Torpey sustained a lower leg injury and was placed on the unavailable list for San Diego Wave’s National Women’s Soccer League match against the Portland Thorns on 6 July.
Both players will remain with the squad in the extended training camp during their rehabilitation.
Defender Winonah Heatley has been called up as an additional training player for the July FIFA Women’s International Window. The 23-year-old enters the camp off the back of a strong season in Denmark.
The FC Nordsjælland captain helped her side to their first Elitedivisionen title, scoring a decisive goal in the final match of the season to clinch the league. Days later Heatley completed the double as FC Nordsjælland lifted the Danish Cup to claim a historic feat.
Following this match against Canada, Australia’s Olympic Squad – led by captain Steph Catley – will relocate to Marseille, France ahead of their opening match against Germany on 25 July 2024.

Thorup Departs FC Nordsjaelland to Manage Norwich City
Fans of Norwich City, get ready for some changes – Johannes Hoff Thorup is now the head coach for the team! The 35-year-old has left FC Nordsjælland to take the reins from David Wagner and to lead the Canaries next season.
