Match Review: Manchester United U21s 1-3 FC Nordsjælland U21s

United were already out of the Premier League International Cup, but in one final game in Altrincham it was the Danish visitors conquering on English soil once again.

Travis Binnion's Reds seemed to be weirdly set up in their 4-3-3:

GK: Myles

RB: Ogunneye

CB: Jackson (c), Kukonki (Kingdon 45)

LB: Amass

DM: Kone (McAllister 62)

CM: Moorhouse (Ibragimov 62)

CM: Curley (Fitzgerald 62)

RW: Missin (Sharpe 70)

LW: Mather

CF: Obi

I describe this as weird because it didn't seem like a flat 4-3-3 but rather a staggered 2-3-2-3, with the full backs of Amass and Ogunneye pushing up aggressively. This was a problem because Nordsjaelland seemingly drifted through United's midfield at every opportunity and were left 2v2 or 3v2 against our CBs with regularity.

United's attack was decent, but without possession, and on the back foot so often, it never felt like their game to win.

Thomas Myles was busy from the off, especially with the U21s trying to play out from the back and seeming to struggle with the Danish pressing game. A couple of good saves against Nene kept the score even but a poor pass from Ogunneye (who really struggled all game) would allow Nene in. Kukonki cleared off the line for United but a lack of support and timing meant Araphat could capitalise and score to make it 1-0. Here I will criticise Ogunneye and Amass - they're full backs in this formation, not wing backs like they might prefer. Get back and defend. Kone did. Jackson and Kukonki needed help and they had 1 teammate get in there.

In classic United fashion, the visitors scored again 90 seconds later: poor passing around the back saw keeper Myles gift the ball to Nene and bag for himself this time. Not surprising given the hot prospect youngster has had I believe 9, maybe 10, Danish Superliga appearances this season. One to watch out for.

The game calmed a little and United crept back into things, but six minutes into the second half and Nordsjaelland had their third - and a second for Nene. A whipped corner found the head of Nene, the reflex hands of Myles, but his parry wasn't strong enough to keep out the low, darting header from Nordsjaelland's no9 and United were sinking without a trace.

A great Finley McAllister through ball set 17-year-old Chido Obi through on goal for a cool finish being chased by several opposition players to give United at least some consolation, but it was too rare a moment to do much in the tie and United limped out of the competition in disappointing fashion.

It should be said that typically United's U18s flourish and the U21s suffer a little, especially with the best being promoted to the first team or loaned out, and there being borrowing from the U18s to assist but adapatation still required. United were also without goal machine Gabi Biancheri, currently injured, and no doubt his movement and tenacity would have caused trouble for the Danes.

Goztepe S.K chase forward Godsway Donyoh

According to reports, Güzelyalı-based club Göztepe S.K  is chasing Godsway Donyoh in the ongoing summer transfer window

He has one year left on his FC Nordsjaelland deal but the club is ready to let him move on if the club receives a good offer.

Donyoh 25, spent last season on loan at relegated German Bundesliga League 2 outfit Dynamo Dresden.

Göztepe S.K will likely table a suitable offer for Donyoh in the coming week.

Some of the youth clubs he played for are Right to Dream Academy and Manchester City U18/U21. His current market value is €600,000.

Mohammed Kudus lauded for snubbing English clubs after Ajax move

Ghana coach, CK Akonnor has lauded Kudus Mohammed following his move to Ajax Amsterdam.

The 19-year-old prospect joined the Dutch giants for a fee of €9 million from FC Nordsjaelland for a five year deal.

Prior to his move to Ajax, Liverpool, Newcastle United among other Premier League clubs were in race to sign the former Right to Dream Academy graduate.

And according to Akonnor, 45, Kudus career would have been ruined should he have moved to England.

“It's a necessary move he made," Akonnor told Graphic Sports.

"It would have been wrong if he moved to England now because he needs to choose a club where he will get enough playing time," Akonnor told Graphic Sports.

"Once he is fully matured, the English teams would come chasing him so I think it’s good he moved to Ajax where he will be playing more regularly."

Outside England, Kudus was also reportedly linked to German side Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Sampdoria.

He netted 11 times in 25 league appearances for Nordsjaelland this season before joining Ajax.

Kudus' good showing this season has earned him a nomination for the 2020 Golden Boy award, for which he has advanced from the first round of voting into the Top 80. The gong seeks to honour the most outstanding U21 talent in European football.

In his first term, he scored three times in 26 league outings.

Ajax will refine Kudus Mohammed to be a better player - Mas-Ud Didi Dramani

Former Asante Kotoko gaffer, Mas-Ud Didi Dramani says Mohammed Kudus have the requisite qualities to become a top player at Ajax Amsterdam.

The 19-year-old Ghana international joined the Dutch side for a five year deal from Danish side, FC Nordsjaelland.

And according to the Nordsjaelland youth coach, Kudus will be a better player at Ajax.

“Kudus Mohammed has fully developed well and I believe that Ajax is the gateway," Didi told Happy Sports.

"He chose the right option to join Ajax despite the several offers from top European clubs.

“Ajax will refine him and that they will also prepare him for the top European football.

"Ajax is one of the best clubs in Europe that play good football and also develop young players.

“He will turn up to be a world-class player because of the transition we have given him here at Nordsjaelland."

Kudus joined Nordsjaelland from Ghanaian outfit Right to Dream Academy in 2018.

Kudus scored 11 times in 25 league outings for Danish fold Nordsjaelland this season.

He was linked to Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan and Real Madrid before choosing Erik Ten Hag's side.

The Accra-born is in the running for the 2020 Golden Boy Award, a prize for the most outstanding U21 player in Europe.

Kudus, who has also represented Ghana at U20 level, made his senior debut for the Black Stars in November last year, scoring in a 2-0 triumph over South Africa.
