Who is Laura Loomer? The far-right extremist on Trumps trail | World News
The presence of far-right conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer alongside Donald Trump on his recent campaign trail has sparked controversy among Republicans and media alike. Known for her anti-Muslim rhetoric and inflammatory conspiracy theories, Loomer, a former congressional candidate, has been a polarising figure for years. Loomer first drew attention when she joined Trump at an event commemorating the 9/11 attacks, leading to concerns about her influence on the former president. Loomer has spread the baseless theory that the 9/11 attacks were an “inside job” orchestrated by the US government. Adding fuel to the fire, she also travelled with Trump on his plane to the presidential debate in Philadelphia, according to a report by BBC.  A particularly controversial moment came during the debate when Trump repeated a baseless claim that illegal immigrants from Haiti were eating pets in a small Ohio town. This theory, which was aired by Loomer just the day before, was debunked by local officials, but its repetition by Trump on such a large stage raised concerns. Some within the Republican Party were quick to point fingers at Loomer, accusing her of being behind Trump’s endorsement of this falsehood. Loomer’s influence on Trump has alarmed some of his allies. Speaking to NBC News, one Trump ally expressed concern, saying they were “100%” worried about Loomer’s proximity to the former president, adding that the campaign’s efforts to manage her influence were “not working.” Several senior Republicans have publicly criticised Loomer’s presence in Trump’s orbit. North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis took to social media, calling Loomer a “crazy conspiracy theorist” and warning that her divisive rhetoric is detrimental to Trump’s chances in the 2024 election. He further commented, “A DNC [Democratic National Committee] plant couldn’t do a better job than she is doing to hurt President Trump’s chances.” Despite these concerns, Trump has remained vague about his relationship with Loomer. At a press conference in California, Trump described her as “a supporter,” adding, “I don’t control Laura. Laura has to say what she wants. She’s a free spirit.” Who is Laura Loomer? Born in Arizona in 1993, Loomer has long been a provocateur in right-wing circles. She has worked for organisations such as Project Veritas and Infowars and gained notoriety for her failed congressional bids in Florida, where she ran as a Trump-endorsed candidate in 2020 and again in 2022. Her outspoken support of Trump and her willingness to promote debunked and inflammatory conspiracy theories have earned her a sizable following on social media, although she has been banned from platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and even ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft. Her influence in Trump’s campaign has become a point of contention among his allies, with some fearing that her controversial presence could cost him votes in key battleground states such as Georgia and North Carolina, where large Indian American and Hindu populations reside. Loomer recently posted a racist tweet about Vice President Kamala Harris, which drew condemnation from both Democrats and Republicans alike. The American Hindu Coalition, a non-partisan advocacy group, expressed its disappointment with Loomer’s rhetoric, cautioning that her divisive statements could harm Trump’s chances in the 2024 election. Loomer, however, has been unapologetic, dismissing critics on social media as “obsessive” and claiming to work independently to support Trump, whom she calls “our nation’s last hope.” Despite mounting concerns, Trump has distanced himself from Loomer. During his press tour, he addressed the issue, saying, “I don’t know that much about it,” when asked about Loomer’s conspiracy theories. With Trump already facing scrutiny over his campaign strategy, many Republican insiders are concerned that his association with Loomer may alienate critical voter bases in states where every percentage point will count. OVERVIEW OF THE REVISED LIBERALISED REMITTANCE SCHEME
- Lawyer2CA
Wealthy Indians who have been legitimately keeping their funds outside of the country are facing problems with the revised Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS) regulation.
Earlier, an Indian resident was allowed to remit up to US $250,000 or its equivalent per financial without any restrictions but now we see significant changes in the LRS in terms of inserting some restrictions and disincentives.
The revised LRS regulation restricts wealthy Indians from keeping their money parked in offshore bank accounts for more than six months.
Funds remitted under LRS may be kept in bank fixed deposits however such FDs cannot be held beyond 180 days as placing funds in bank deposits will not be considered an “investment” of funds. The income earned on investments abroad should also be invested abroad within 180 days, or these should be remitted back to India.
This is a retrospective amendment and hence applies not only to fresh remittances but also to the existing funds lying abroad which were remitted before 24th August 2022.
A person cannot borrow funds in India and remit them abroad for investments as these have to be made out of a person’s own funds. Borrowing funds even from a non-resident is prohibited although extending loans to non-residents is allowed. Indian residents are allowed to give gifts and loans to NRI/PIO relatives in rupees in their NRO account.
Transactions allowed without any threshold limit include remittances for:
-Emigration expenses
-Medical expenses
-Educational expenses
Investments in gold bonds are not permitted as it amounts to a corporate bond. In fact, buying physical gold or other precious metals outside India is also not permitted under LRS.
Prohibited transactions include remittances from the following:
-Lottery tickets, gambling, banned magazines, etc.
-Countries identified by FATF as non-cooperative countries
-Margin trading (derivatives and options)
-Trading in foreign exchange
Once a person is a non-resident, the funds outside India are not liable to FEMA restrictions. Hence the condition of repatriating the funds within 180 days will not apply.
It is necessary that the investment should be made in the proportion in which the funds are remitted i.e., the ownership ratio in the asset should be commensurate with the ratio in which payment is made.
TCS has been increased from the existing 5% to 20% for remittances made under LRS w.e.f. from 1st July 2023 and the threshold of INR 7,00,000/- has been restricted only to cases where remittance is for the purpose of education or medical treatment.
The concessional rate of 0.5% where remittance is out of education loan remains the same after the amendment.
It appears that the government does not wish to encourage remittances under LRS. Hence it is making remittances costlier. Before making remittances, one should carefully understand the implications and then go ahead with the remittance.

Solar subsidy scheme for residential solar rooftops in the state of Rajasthan.
Tumblr media
Advanced solar photovoltaic systems have transformed solar energy into more than just a resource to supplement our finite energy supplies. Solar power has a wealth of unrealized financial advantages for homeowners and enormous potential to fulfill the rising energy demand that is straining the public infrastructure.
Under the Solar Rooftop Programme Phase II programme, the Indian government has begun to subsidize the cost of household solar systems so that even modest-sized residences can access this clean and sustainable energy source. In reality, with the introduction of the National Portal for Rooftop Solar, the procedure for obtaining a subsidy on solar panels in Rajasthan and other states has been made even more straightforward.
The state government of Rajasthan has taken the initiative to offer financial support to those (homeowners and housing societies) wishing to install rooftop solar systems under the Solar Subsidy in Rajasthan 2022.
Rajasthan solar subsidy application process, 2022 :-
The actions below should be followed in order to apply for solar subsidy:
Step 1. Site analysis. Visit by an Engineer? book it here.
Step 2. System Capacity, Costing, and Performance Analysis
Step 3. Buy a solar system and install it in
Step 4. Apply for net metering
Step 5: After installing rooftop solar panels for 30 days, receive solar subsidies
Subsidy for solar panels in Rajasthan
Will you be installing solar panels on your roof? Rajasthan residents can apply for rooftop solar subsidies under the pan-India Rooftop Solar Programme Phase II initiative, which was launched by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE).
If you have been delaying your family solar project due to the high upfront solar expenditure, a subsidy can lessen the financial burden of your conversion to solar power. The National Portal for Rooftop Solar has strengthened the national subsidy programme, making solar energy more accessible to the residential, institutional, and social sectors. However, the initiative does not fund RTS installations in companies that operate in the public, private, or industrial sectors.
In accordance with the national simplified subsidy scheme, set subsidy rates were distributed among various slabs, which represented the various system capacities accessible for residential constructions. Based on the capacity of your rooftop solar system, this is an overview of the Central Financial Assistance (CFA)/Central Government Subsidy amount you can apply for. These subsidy rates are same throughout India’s states and union territories.Rooftop Solar System Capacity% Based on System CapacityAmount in ₹1kW to 3kW40%14,588 per kWAbove 3kW, up to 10kW20%14,588 per kW for the first 3kW7,294 per kW thereafter for the restAbove 10kW–94,822 fixedGroup Housing Societies/Residential Welfare Associations (GHS/RWA)20%, up to a 500 kW capacity–
Rajasthan’s Solar Panel Subsidy Effect
Governments across the nation are recognising the value of solar energy as a sustainable resource. Rajasthan’s solar panel subsidies would make it easier for individuals to adapt and switch from using non-renewable energy sources to solar power.
The following are some of the effects that the subsidies will have on Rajasthan:
Employment will be created, and economies will grow.
One of the main issues facing the economy is unemployment, which lowers the nation’s GDP. In Rajasthan, the unemployment rate is 27%. People will have the chance to find employment thanks to the subsidies. Any time of day can be used for solar electricity.
Rajasthan is one of the many states where power outages are a significant problem. This problem will be solved by Rajasthan’s solar panel subsidies because solar panels enable 24/7 electricity use. favors a sustainable strategy
The globe must make investments in the next generation and adopt a sustainable strategy. Utilizing green energy will help future generations conserve resources.
Solar panel cost list in Rajasthan
Even if the L1 price is used to determine solar subsidies in Rajasthan 2022, the cost of solar panels in Rajasthan fluctuates depending on a few distinct factors, including: – The manufacturing process used to create different solar panels; – The efficiency of different solar panels.
Additionally, the quality and performance of the modules are better the better the brand (panels). The price of the modules increases with their quality.
You must multiply the price range by the capacity to determine the price range for various capacities. These values are:
1 kW: between 45,000 and 70,000;
2 KW: between 90,000 and 1,40,000;
3 KW: between 1,35,000 and 2,10,000;
4 KW: between 1,80,000 and 2,80,000;
5 KW: between 2,25,000 and 3,50,000
Observe these pointers to make sure you’re eligible for a solar subsidy in Rajasthan in 2022:
Indian-made solar panels Make sure you purchase locally manufactured solar PV modules in accordance with the streamlined subsidy procedure if you have made the decision to go solar and want to take advantage of the solar system subsidy in Rajasthan or anywhere else in India. Solar cells made in India must be used in the production of solar panels to qualify for the subsidy. You can choose the best solar panels from the Approved Models & Manufacturers of Solar Photovoltaic Modules by using the ALMM list.
Solar subsidies are only available for on-grid solar systems (excluding solar batteries) installed for residential use in Rajasthan and other Indian states, according to the MNRE. To fully realise the potential of solar technology, homeowners are allowed to add solar batteries. However, under the streamlined subsidy structure, the price of solar batteries will not be taken into account for determining subsidies.
Licensed/registered solar energy providers – The MNRE has published a list of solar vendors with empanelled status who have been screened and given permission to commission and install residential solar projects with financial assistance. In any RTS installation project, they must adhere to the minimal requirements and norms. Check with your local Distribution Utility (DISCOM) provider to see if the solar firms you are considering for your solar transition are registered.
The Whole Solar System Installation Process in Rajasthan
Applying for a solar subsidy on your anticipated installation of a grid-connected rooftop solar system has never been simpler thanks to the opening of the online site. To properly start the process under the solar rooftop subsidy yojana, the following is the whole procedure for applying for solar subsidy in Rajasthan or anyplace in India:
Using the mobile number, email address, and other necessary information, you must first activate your beneficiary account on the National Solar Portal (https://solarrooftop.gov.in/).
Once the account has been created, make a note of your login information and use it to access your account. There, you may quickly and easily submit your online application for a solar system subsidy in Rajasthan. Make sure to accurately enter the requested data and bank account information. Your local DISCOM firm will receive your subsidy application after it has been filed through the portal. The DISCOM is in charge of determining the technical viability of your planned RTS installation. Based on this, it will grant approval in accordance with the rules in effect in the state.
Before installing your RTS system, wait for your technical feasibility approval. The aforementioned status will be updated on the site and you’ll be notified via email as well.
You now possess the required authorization to launch your RTS system under the streamlined subsidy plan. All sponsored RTS installation projects must be completed by an empanelled vendor, according to the subsidy rules. You can submit all the necessary paperwork on the web portal once the installation is complete. Wait until a DISCOM representative comes to your location for a physical check and to install a net meter.
The DISCOM authority will submit all the information on the portal following the successful conclusion of the physical inspection, resulting in the clearance of your subsidy amount. Your application will be affected by this status.
The approved subsidy amount will now be deposited into your bank account within 30 days after installation, so you can relax.

What to Expect When Moving to Brampton Ontario
You’ve decided that you’re moving to Brampton. To be honest, you certainly are not alone. After all, Brampton is growing at a rate three times faster than that of Ontario. There are obviously reasons that this is an incredibly popular community. Let’s take a greater look at the town once known as “The Flower Town of Canada”
Overview
Brampton is a town of just under 600,000 persons as of the most recent 2016 census. It is located near the Toronto Pearson Airport, roughly 40 kilometres away from downtown Toronto. Brampton is a very diverse city. In fact, over half of its population was born outside of Canada. Many people are from India, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines. Thus, it is not surprising that Brampton is a cultural hub of the area.
Brampton is home to the Canadian headquarters of Clorox and Brita as well as companies such as Maple Lodge Farms, Gamma-Dynacare Medical Laboratories, and Zellers. Traditionally, Brampton was well known for its greenhouses, which led to its “Flower Town” moniker. However, modern day Brampton is much more than flowers.
Hot Place for Housing
With Brampton being a fast growing town, it is no surprise that the housing market is very hot. Brampton is a great place for homeowners. In fact, it has one of the highest homeowner rates in the Greater Toronto Area at over 80%.
The median home price in Brampton in January 2022 was $1,367,444, which represented an astonishing 41% increase from the prior year. Meanwhile, the median condo price was $622,579, which represented a 30% year over year increase. It is easy to see that becoming a homeowner in Brampton is a great investment.
If you would rather rent in Brampton, you’ll find a one bedroom apartment in the trendy city centre for approximately $1,500; however, more affordable housing can be found in other areas. Still, as a hot area, Brampton’s prices are fairly high although they are tremendously cheaper than those in Toronto.
Culture and Recreation
Living in Brampton brings with it a vibrant community experience. With an extensive immigrant community, it is not surprising that the city is home to a variety of culinary delights including delectable Indian restaurants, authentic Thai cuisine, and innovative Mexican fusion.
If you enjoy shopping, you will find that Brampton simply has it all. From large malls and shopping centres to small boutiques, there are plenty of opportunities to peruse fashion. New residents will also delight in a very large seasonal farmer’s market that takes place from spring until early fall, allowing residents to purchase fresh, sustainable produce and other items.
However, perhaps the most exciting aspect of moving to Brampton for many people is the opportunity for exploring the outdoors. The area is filled with parks. In fact, it has over 3,600 hectares of parkland across over 800 parks with miles upon miles of nature trails. One of the highlights is the Heart Lake Conservation Area where residents routinely gather for hiking, fishing, and even zip lining.
Brampton is also a great place for engaging in sports. It has a wide variety of tennis courts, soccer pitches, and baseball diamonds for the community. The city also features eight golf courses for people who enjoy hitting the links. And there are over a hundred different sporting organizations in the community for children and adults alike, meaning that everyone will find some sort of way to become active.
Things to Do
Aside from the typical social environment, there are a number of exciting things to do around the Brampton area. Here are some of the highlights.
Great War Flying Museum. If you enjoy either history or aircraft, you will love a visit to the Great War Flying Museum. This museum features a variety of replicas of World War I aircraft. Additionally, as a non-profit, the museum relies on volunteers to help maintain the planes.
Wet & Wild Toronto. If you love water-parks, you’re going to love Wet & Wild Toronto. This water-park is spread over 40 hectares and has a variety of rides from mild to wild. This includes two pools and 15 water-slides. It also features activities such as zip lines, miniature golf, and rock climbing.
Peel Art Gallery, Museum, & Archives. PAMA, as it is known by the locals, is an exquisite museum with over 4,000 works of art as well as a variety of travelling exhibits. The museum area has over 12,000 artifacts dating from as far back as 4,000 BC.
Badlands. If you appreciate strange geography, you’ll enjoy a stroll in the Badlands in nearby Caledon. This area was farmed from soil erosion due to poor farming practices that have led to the exposure of shale. The rolling hills of grey and red rock make for the perfect Instagram picture. This is also a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve.
Professor Lake. This lake with a quaint name is enjoyed by many Brampton residents. At 26 hectares, it is a great location for fishing, windsurfing, and kayaking. During the summer, a man-made beach on its shores serves as the ideal place for a cookout or to have a family gathering.
Final Thoughts
Moving to Brampton is clearly a popular choice as it is one of the fastest growing areas in the province. With a large international population, many things for people to do, and innovative activities, moving to Brampton is undoubtedly going to be a decision that you are pleased with.

Meet my MC: About the Future
Inara Hepburn (she/they)
Tumblr media
New beginnings:
Tumblr media
Inara will soon get a haircut done, that one haircut she was gathering courage for throughout her teenage years. An asymmetric chop, complete with semi-permanent purple highlights. Perfection! She'll also get her first ever tattoo, a prism with colours bursting, on her forearm. And of course, Ethan would plan weeks ahead to take a day off on the day of her appointment, just to be able to hold her hand through the entire process of her screaming her head off while getting the said tattoo.
Having created too much drama the first time, Inara will walk into the tattoo studio for a second round, this time like a mature adult, to get a stethoscope inked near her collarbone. This will originally be to foreshadow the release of her third book, the residency memoir, but unfortunately, she will fail to stick to that plan.
Speaking of the memoir, Hepburn's Stethoscope will originally be scheduled to release in 2022, but due to Inara's unfiltered commentary on the healthcare system, it's efficiency, American politics, and capitalism among other issues, the book will be rejected by several publishing houses. Due to their initial absence of permanent American citizenship, and hence the legal right to comment so strongly on those subjects, Inara too will temporarily shelve the project. Five years after residency/two years after their marriage to Ethan, with several edits, re-edits and a US citizenship in place, Inara will finally let the book out for the world to read, and sure enough, it will hit equally hard with both readers and critics.
Writing wise, Inara's next venture after the journal will be a spy thriller trilogy, based on a team of four agents who execute dangerous but necessary missions all around the world. The central character Veronica and her gang will become extremely popular, resulting in the second book being made into a movie.
In the activism department, Inara will start their own US based queer NGO, 'We the Rainbow People foundation', to legally advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, provide food, shelter, free physical and mental healthcare to queer people of all ages who aren't privileged enough to access those, as well as hold counseling sessions for parents of queer youth who want to learn more or are reluctant to come around.
Later down the line, Inara's ancestral home in Kolkata will be completely bought off by them, after paying due shares to their aunt and cousin. The Indian wing of Inara's NGO will be founded there. Said wing will be handed over to some prominent queer activists in Bengal for immediate supervision, and Kolkata will serve as the headquarters of We the Rainbow People, India.
Family <3:
Tumblr media
More below the cut—
Inara will continue to live with Ethan and Jenner in their shared condo till three years after their residency. At 32, they will get engaged, and eventually married to their longtime partner, and buy a new home together, beautifully placed in equal distance from city-life and the countryside.
Post marriage, Ethan will be wanting a baby, but Inara won't be particularly comfortable with the idea of getting pregnant or opting for surrogacy. Hence, biological kids would be out of question, but fate will find another way to seep a third human into their lives. Through her NGO, Inara will meet a two year old in an orphanage, abandoned in infancy by their parents, most probably because they're intersex. The couple will adopt the child and raise them as their own, albeit in a gender neutral way, until they are old enough to figure out what their gender identity is.
Iris Ramsey (they/them) will be an adorable kid, enthusiastic about science experiments and music from a young age. Their love for cats combined with their Renny's would prompt the entry of a fourth member in the Hepburn-Ramsey household.
The family might consider naming their new cat Ethan, cause it would kinda look and act like him, but with little Ethan being a close friend and a regular visitor to Iris' home, three Ethans in one house would be too much confusion. Inara will only tease Ethan with a joke about naming the kitty Kardashian, just to follow suit with Jenner. Ethan will grimace, the other two will laugh, but the cat will end up responding. Hence, the Ramsey ragdoll would be named Kardashian; 'Kardy' for short.
The Ramseys will keep meeting up with Alan and Naveen during all major yearly events like Christmas and New Year's. Naveen will also team up with Inara to occasionally conduct mini poojas for their family, and Iris would thoroughly enjoy the preparation process.
Awards and accolades:
Tumblr media
The diagnostics team of Bloom Edenbrook, and that of Solomon Kenmore (headed by Dr. Aurora Emery), along with the immunology research teams of the respective hospitals will join hands to find a cure to Caroline Bloom's condition. For this milestone achievement in the history of medicine, Dr. Baz Mirani, Dr. Aurora Emery, Dr. Inara Hepburn and Dr. Timothy Riaz (head of research team, Kenmore) will be honoured with several awards from medical organizations and invited to address in conferences around the globe.
Dr. Hepburn will join Dr. Ramsey in the management of several epidemics over the years in different parts of the world. The World Health Organisation will thus honour them both with a special accolade to acknowledge their contribution in this regard.
After its delayed release, Inara's journal 'Hepburn's Stethoscope' will win the National Book Award for Non-fiction due to its "honest and detailed account of devastatingly true events." Her following releases consisting of all three parts of her spy series will receive nominations and awards on both national and international levels.
At 45, Inara will be honoured with the Gleitsman Citizen Activist Award for their contributions in aiding queer liberation.
That was my final entry! This whole event was so enriching, so much fun and so much solidarity, I can't even! I'll probably rant in the host blog's asks. But before that, a HUGE THANK YOU to all of you who read and supported my submissions, you deserve the world.
Love to all, goodbye✌.

Burned out by the pandemic, 3 in 10 health-care workers consider leaving the profession (Washington Post) It’s been months since Justin Meschler, 48, practiced medicine. And he wonders if he ever will again. He quit his job as an anesthesiologist during the pandemic last spring when fear began seeping into every part of his life. And what began as a few months off has now turned into something much longer. “I feel guilty for leaving. I think about the others who stayed on. I think about the patients I could have helped. I feel like I abandoned them,” Meschler said. “But mostly, I feel relieved.” A year into the pandemic, many others are joining Meschler at the door—an exodus fueled by burnout, trauma and disillusionment. According to a Washington Post-Kaiser Family Foundation poll, roughly 3 in 10 health-care workers have weighed leaving their profession. More than half are burned out. And about 6 in 10 say stress from the pandemic has harmed their mental health. Many traced their disillusionment to how the pandemic exposed and magnified the broken parts of America’s health-care system. “You look at staffing, preparedness, what the priorities were for many hospitals during the crisis, and it’s clear the industry is driven by profits rather than well-being of patients or health workers,” Meschler said from his home in Louisville, Colo. “It makes you question the whole system.”
House Democrats pass D.C. statehood, launching bill into uncharted territory (Washington Post) For the second time in history, the House passed legislation Thursday to make the District of Columbia the nation’s 51st state, bolstering momentum for a once-illusory goal that has become a pivotal tenet of the Democratic Party’s voting rights platform. The bill now heads to the Senate. But the political odds remain formidable. Republicans, who hold 50 seats, have branded the bill as a Democratic power grab because it would create two Senate seats for the deep-blue city. Not even all Senate Democrats have backed the bill as the clock ticks toward the 2022 midterm election. Voting rights groups have described a city of second-class citizens, a plurality of whom are Black, living in the nation’s capital without any say in the nation’s laws.
Bringing Up Baby, And Charging Them For It (NPR) Foster care is a public service that federal law and all 50 state laws require the government to pay for. Foster care agencies are funded through a web of federal and state grants and subsidies, which, again, taxpayers are supposed to pay for. 10% of children in the US foster care system are entitled to Social Security (SS) benefits, either because their parents have died or because they have a physical or mental disability that would leave them in poverty without financial help. This money—typically more than $700 per month—is considered the children’s property under federal law. Congress never intended that the SS benefits owed these children would be a funding stream for their foster care services. The Marshall Project teamed up with NPR to expose how foster care agencies in at least 36 states and Washington, DC have been appropriating money owed to children in foster care to pay for the very services the government is supposed to provide with taxpayer dollars. Agencies do it by combing through their case files to find kids entitled to these benefits, then applying to SS to become each child’s financial representative, a process permitted by federal regulations. Once approved, the agencies take the money, almost always without notifying the children, their loved ones, or their lawyers. Child Trends research shows that state foster care agencies collected more than $165 million from foster children in 2018 alone. And SS data indicates the number is likely much higher.
Biden to recognize Armenian genocide (Foreign Policy) According to multiple reports, U.S. President Joe Biden is to break a long-standing taboo this Saturday by officially recognizing the massacre of 1 million ethnic Armenian by the Ottoman Empire as a genocide. Biden had commemorated the Armenian genocide as a presidential candidate last year, but Saturday’s proclamation would make him the first sitting president to do so. The announcement is certain to anger NATO ally Turkey, which disputes the historical record and the use of the term.
Mexican mobile data law (Foreign Policy) On Tuesday, a judge blocked part of a new Mexican law that requires cellphone users to submit biometric data, such as fingerprints and eye scans. The measure had drawn pushback from privacy and consumer safety advocates. The judge wrote there was no causal relationship between such data gathering and better investigations of crimes—one official justification for the new law. It will now face further examination in the courts.
Human excrement ‘increasingly serious problem’ as Britain opens up but many bathrooms don’t (Washington Post) With Britain slowly easing its way out of its third nationwide lockdown, people across the country are enjoying a return to a sense of normalcy. Shops and gyms have reopened and parks are once again heaving with groups of up to six people—for many, it’s a welcome step forward and a joy to be back socializing outdoors. But what happens when nature calls? The issue of where to relieve oneself in a world where so many facilities have been shut in recent months has long been a concern in Britain. Many public bathrooms, in particular, were closed during the various lockdowns and remain unavailable. Across the country, police patrols have been stepped up in a bid to deter people from urinating in bushes, on beaches and on private allotments. The problem isn’t just in parks, with towns and cities complaining that people spending time outdoors had no choice but to defecate in the street—much to the horror of local residents who said the odor was so bad on certain streets they were unable to open their windows and had to clean up after others with bleach and water. The lack of facilities has also meant people were unable to wash their hands—an instruction the government has repeatedly used in its messaging to curb the spread of infections over the past year.
Many in Western Europe and U.S. Want Economic Changes as Pandemic Continues (Pew Research Center) The coronavirus outbreak has caused, among other things, a debate around how to best rebuild national economies ravaged by the pandemic. Across the United States, France, Germany and the United Kingdom, significant shares believe their economic system needs either major changes or a complete overhaul, according to a Pew Research Center survey conducted in the late fall of 2020. Few in the four countries say their economy does not need any changes. The desire for change is strongest in France, where seven-in-ten believe the economic system in their country needs either major changes or to be completely reformed. Half share this view in the U.S., UK and Germany, while around four-in-ten in these three nations say minor changes are warranted. Few would opt for no adjustments to the economic system, ranging from 3% in France to 12% in the U.S. Of the five policies tested, the idea of government-sponsored job and skills training for workers garners the highest shares. Sizable shares in these countries also believe it is very important for their government to implement policies targeted at helping those struggling financially, building more public housing, and increasing government benefits to the poor, all three of which are of high import for around four-in-ten or more in each country.
Russia orders troops back to base after buildup near Ukraine (Reuters) Russia announced on Thursday it was ordering troops back to base from the area near the border with Ukraine, apparently calling an end to a buildup of tens of thousands of soldiers that had alarmed the West. A confirmed pullout of the troops brought in on top of the permanent contingent will likely be welcomed by Western countries that had been expressing alarm at the prospect of further Russian intervention in eastern Ukraine. Russian-backed separatists have been fighting the Ukrainian government in the region since 2014. Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said he had ordered troops involved in exercises to return to their bases by May 1, as they had completed what he called an “inspection” in the border area.
US troops in Afghanistan begin packing gear in pullout prep (AP) The U.S. military has begun shipping equipment and winding down contracts with local service providers ahead of the May 1 start of the final phase of its military pullout from Afghanistan, a U.S. Defense Department official said Thursday. The pullout under U.S. President Joe Biden marks the end of America’s longest war after a 20-year military engagement. Currently, some 2,500 U.S. soldiers and about 7,000 allied forces are still in Afghanistan. In February last year, the U.S. military began closing its smaller bases. In mid-April, the Biden administration announced that the final phase of the withdrawal would begin May 1 and be completed before Sept. 11. Since then, the military has been shipping equipment and winding down local contracts for services such as trash pickup and maintenance work, the U.S. official told The Associated Press. The Taliban, meanwhile, were non-committal when asked by the AP whether the insurgents would attack departing U.S. and NATO troops. “It’s too early for these issues, nothing can be said about the future,” said Taliban spokesman Mohammad Naeem.
Indian coronavirus cases surge as health system staggers (Reuters) India reported the world’s highest daily tally of coronavirus infections for a second day on Friday, surpassing 330,000 new cases, as it struggles with a health system overwhelmed by patients and plagued by accidents. Deaths in the past 24 hours also jumped to a record 2,263, the health ministry said, while officials across northern and western India, including the capital, New Delhi, warned most hospitals were full and running out of oxygen. The surge in cases came as a fire in a hospital in a suburb of Mumbai treating COVID-19 patients killed 13 people, the latest accident to hit a facility crowded with virus sufferers.
Violence in Jerusalem (Foreign Policy) Dozens were injured in Jerusalem on Thursday night as anti-Arab protests led by far-right Jewish activists turned violent. The Palestinian Red Crescent reported 105 people injured in the clashes as Haaretz reported more than 30 were arrests. The violence follows a week of assaults on Arab Israelis and Palestinians by Jewish Israeli residents. Tensions rose between the communities last week after videos of Palestinians assaulting Jews were posted on TikTok.
Crew Of ‘Ever Given’ Could Be Stuck On The Big Boat For Years (Jalopnik) The news cycle may have moved on from the Ever Given, but the Ever Given still hasn’t moved on from its holding spot in the Great Bitter Lake in the middle of the Suez Canal after almost a month. The crew still stuck on the ship is very concerned about this, as there seems to be no sign that an agreement will be reached between Egypt and the Ever Given’s owners any time soon. Until there is an agreement in place, the crew is stuck there, and they could be for years. Apparently, it isn’t unusual for crew members to get trapped on ships caught in the middle of international shipping disputes. The Guardian details the fate of one sailor who has been the lone guardian of a ship for the last two years in the Gulf of Suez only 50 miles south of where the Ever Given has been held since it was freed back in March. He’s only allowed off the ship for two hour intervals to get food and water. The crew is stuck in the middle of a legal battle between the Suez Canal Authority, which is basically a stand-in for the Egyptian government, the owners of the Ever Given, Japanese company Shoei Kisen Kaisha Ltd and the operators of the ship, a German company called Bernhard Schulte. The SCA is demanding $916 million in damages due to the blockage while Shoei Kisen disputes those charges. Until the company pays up, the government of Egypt is holding on to the ship. The 26 crew members are reportedly in good spirits, but apprehensive according to representatives from the National Union of Seafarers of India, the trade union representing the Ever Given’s crew.

1 kW: between 45,000 and 70,000;
2 KW: between 90,000 and 1,40,000;
3 KW: between 1,35,000 and 2,10,000;
4 KW: between 1,80,000 and 2,80,000;
5 KW: between 2,25,000 and 3,50,000
Observe these pointers to make sure you’re eligible for a solar subsidy in Rajasthan in 2022:
