You know sometimes I feel so much rage in my fucking heart actually.

You know you have to be extremely tone deaf and ignorant to outright make fun of and ignore the multiple people telling you to not whitewash the canonical non white characters in the game. You have to be so incredibly entitled to think that you deserve a fucking gold star for less than the bare minimum. Black people/ other racial minorities should not have to repeatedly beg you to not be racist and complaining in the main tags about how it’s not worth the effort to learn how to draw other people other than skinny white anime characters. That kind of sucks actually. It sucks a lot and I’m really disappointed in how so many people are seemingly just chill with that kind of behavior.

Just I don’t know there’s something so deeply ironic in the act of whitewashing mirabelle chevalier, a girl whose whole arc was learning and accepting that it’s okay not to change and that she likes being herself and changing her design to be unrecognizable from canon by making her hair straight (on purpose) because you didn’t want to look at a tutorial (that the dev of the game straight up made for free and easy access to everyone on the internet) and think she looks better with straight / wavy or spiky hair instead. Very fun and epic and cool (not).

design notes under the cut

This was very hard, because ISAT character designs are rather rule-of-cool, while I prefer to place fashion in a concrete context. I ended up looking at modern Japanese street fashion with traditional elements and sukeban (60s/70s girl gangs) fashion, so definitely not very pseudo-medieval but successfully rule-of-cool to me!

Rei is bigender-ish transmasc, but only out in certain social circles because she's careful about her image due to political ambitions. So his formal outfit is a perfectly traditional kimono, with a fur scarf to add bulk to his shoulders. And then to balance this out, her casual outfit is very plain, with masculine pants and rolled-up sukeban jacket sleeves, and a cool belt for style. (If he lived in a trans-accepting society he would probably still prefer a mix of super-fem and super-masc over androgany, he'd just be able to mix them more.)

Odile is newly transitioned and stealth about it, so she's excited to be wearing feminine things, but also too practical and "fuck you society" to go super traditional feminine. She's more consistently rebellious than Rei, so her formal outfit isn't very formal at all, just a plain button-up and long sukeban skirt. She's probably likely to wear a jacket or robe with this 'fit as well, but I wanted to draw the cuffed sleeves, lol. She always wears her ring, which was a gift from her dad and means "daughter, you're the most important thing in my life".

Her casual clothes are modern and striking. For the first time in her life, she wants to draw attention! She's kind of a sexy bad bitch, which is an attitude that I associate with revealing outfits, but in keeping with my Odile headcanons and historical sukeban attitudes I challenged myself to keep her nearly entirely covered up. She's still self-conscious about her Vaugardian heritage, so she's using recognizable Ka Buan elements, but in distinctly non-traditional ways. So she has a simple kimono-style robe worn partially open and layered over other clothing, and boots with a split platform inspired by geta sandals.

Alright. This idea has been swiveling in my mind for ages - an AU of In Stars and Time in modern ages. Like 2024. With phones and modern clothes

How does this work? Well let me tell you. Theres some itsy bitsy spoilers for the main game in there. I will hide them behind a cut

So main things first;

- this is a colorized AU! Because I thought it’d be more fun to come up with designs that way

- Siffrin looses his memories rather at the beginning of this AU, after he has some dispute with someone he’s close to

- Isabeau and Mirabelle are roommates in this one and live together

- they live in the same apartment complex than Odile - she’s a teacher in this one and homeschools kids. In other words; Bonnie

- Bonnie still cooks and this mostly when with Odile and they always have leftovers, so they’re treating their neighbors; Isabeau and Mirabelle

- The King has a role here too!! He’s the landlord of the apartment complex and, just an ass in general. Mirabelle, Isabeau and Odile comment on that rather regularly

-> I haven’t given The King a name yet. He’s just been referred as “The Landlord” for now. Maybe I’ll come up with a name or not. I don’t know yet

- The Head Housemaiden is here too!! She’s another resident at the apartment complex. She likes baking cookies and bringing them over :)

Okay so this was non spoilery for now, so we get to go to the fun part - twohats ending spoilers!!!

- Loop is here too. Of COURSE. How can I forget my favorite star person? They’re obviously not a star here but,,,

-> Loop is Siffrin’s twin. Evident by also some design choices I’ve made

- At the beginning of this tale, these two fight and Siffrin fleas. Loop lets him. To cool off. Guess what? Siffrin doesn’t return. So Loop is on a mission to find them

- After Siffrin fleas from the fight, he has an accident, causing his memory loss and he wakes up in an hospital

- surprise surprise, he meets Isabeau and Mirabelle there.

- Mirabelle is a nurse in the hospital Siffrin wakes up in

- Isabeau is a goody two shoes and got beat up while protecting someone, so he landed in the hospital as well

- Isabeau and Siffrin bond a little (of course) and Mirabelle agrees to take him in because Siffrin has nothing

- Isabeau regularly takes Siffrin shopping, just so he can own a bit of his own. Siffrin owes his whole wardrobe almost exclusively to Isabeau

- Mirabelle and Isabeau gift Siffrin little jewelry since they’ve noticed that he’s wearing a little shooting star earring

- Siffrin adapts to nicknames also relatively quick. Bonnie gives them the nickname “Frin” first. Isabeau thinks that’s cute and gives Siffrin another nickname too (after having the okay of Sif) which then Siffrin returns

-> Mirabelle does ask about them

I have not yet designed all of them but I plan to, but here are the twins; Siffrin and Loop

The text reads;

So! I made a post on my main account a few days back making a joke about Loop looking like a xurkitree. I edited their eyes onto an image from bulbapedia, and voilà!

A loop both in full colour and greyscale!

But that got me thinking - what pokémon best suited the other characters? I’m still stumped on most of them, but the ideas for Siffrin flowed way too fast. some were obvious - pokémon with funky hats like murkrow, space themed pokémon (with a little extra) like minior or jirachi, celebi or basically any ghost pokémon for the loops, pokémon like ditto or zorua for twohats, SOMETHING to tie back to where he’s from, etc.

I was REALLY attached to mismagius (mostly for the hat/ghost type combo) but also kept coming back to mimikyu for the island. mimikyu were added in alola, their whole thing is mimicking (but in a way that’s obviously wrong), the ghost type also works for the loss of memory and the disguise has a lot of potential for any conversations Siffrin normally has about their clothes. I really loved the idea of a disguise that told of how clearly and then I had an epiphany.

do mimikyu disguises have to be pikachu?

I somehow managed to forget to write this, but Odile was the one who came up with the idea of the patch being the same colour as a mismagius eye. Siffrin doesn’t have an actual eyepatch underneath, because there is no eye (or eye socket) there either, most of the time - it’s just ghost mist. The patch was necessary to keep the disguise from fraying thanks to the damage, and the only way Isabeau could find to do that without damaging the craft on the disguise further was by patching over the damaged hole.

I debated a LOT with where to put Siffrin’s eyepatch. The ability disguise made it even harder - it would make more sense for it to activate, but the enemy wasn’t aiming for siffrin, they were aiming for Bonnie, who is probably tiny. I eventually decided that I was still going to have the sadness (equivalent) hit their actual eye, on grounds of “the only reason for an eyepatch would be if Bonnie stitched up the disguise eye as a non-verbal apology, rather than Isabeau” and “regardless of how naturally it happens, writing out disability is something I’m wary of”.

And yes! Mal du Pays! I knew fairly early on that I wanted to keep the silhouette but not the outline. Still not sure if I want to go with something close to canon Siffrin or something related to jirachi, but…

me going on a bit of a tangent about familial expectations in vaugarde (spoilers)

so that post i reblogged last night that was about being against assigning specific roles to found families and how i said in the tags that i appreciate that isat takes this stance in some of its dialogue got me thinking about this.

siffrin is very obviously weirded out by his family being assigned specific traditional roles by both the daydreaming one and bonnie, but i wanna say that it's a lot more understandable from bonnie's perspective. they actually know their group personally (compared to the daydreaming one just engaging in rpf) and, more importantly, they're a child, so it probably is easier for their brain to try and grasp the saviours' dynamics through assigning specific roles to everyone. however, this is all despite bonnie's own biological family being very non-traditional with their and nille's parents not being in the picture.

so that got me thinking, since vaugarde is evidently not as perfect of a utopia as it's initially presented once you look beneath the surface, maybe vaugarde still believes in a lot of traditional family structures too akin to real life. obviously they're nowhere near as strict as real life considering lgbt and polyamorous couples are normalized and celebrated there, but considering mirabelle definitely feels pressure to have a romantic relationship and start a family i feel like there's definitely some sort of connection between the two there. you could probably throw in something about how odile's mom rejected the idea of having a family and the id5 interview where they say vaugarde is "crazy about sex and making babies" too. there is this inescapable expectation that leaves people like mirabelle in the dust.

idk how well i worded this and i feel like i'm having a "connecting the dots but didn't actually connect shit" moment here but you get me yeah?

ive mentioned my tattoo hcs before but im gonna expand on them as best i can rn because i think about it occasionally (i am making a lot of this up. right now! for you!)

ok so odile has a lower back tattoo she got in her 20s and i feel very strongly about this one 1. because i think its funny 2. because it makes her 10x cooler. the other day in my moots disc we talked about the idea of odile having a past polycule that she broke off from and so ive adopted that idea and decided the tattoo is a matching one. she does not regret it at all and is still (somewhat) in touch with her ex’s. siffrin was the first person she told about this, drunkenly btw, and for months afterwards he couldnt remember if it was Actually Real or just something his brain made up (and they were too scared to ask lol)

siffrin has star tattoos on his back and shoulders! i was considering giving him sleeves but i changed my mind,, he got them while he was still travelling on his own. possibly theres a region that is more well known for tattooing (havent decided what this would be though)! he was interested from a ‘learning about new culture’ perspective, also just because Why Not. he chose to get stars because it felt right. he somewhat regrets it. (maybe, post canon and later on their journey, he would try out something else. different designs. things inspired by his family! or things he wants to remember)

isabeau has no tattoos. not from not wanting them, but from just never really having the interest. UNTIL travelling with the party. until staying up late with sif in their shared tent and finding out that, on his travels, he learned how to (very basically) give people tattoos. and begs him for one. its like 2am and neither of them are thinking clearly so they agree. they ‘borrow’ odiles ink pot she uses for writing, a sewing needle that isa happens to have on hand, aaaand it. goes very poorly. as youd imagine. he is lucky to have the long sleeves to cover it up. whatever design theyd been going for was absolutely not achieved. but! he cherishes the memories regardless. (incredibly, they would try this twice. the second time would be after bonnie joined the crew, who would catch them awake, beg siffrin for a tattoo of their own, be told ‘no’, but would still be allowed to watch as long as they PROMISE not to tattle to madame and mira in the morning. bonnie absolutely tattles).

mira! does not seem like a tattoo person to me. i think she would be intimidated by the idea- partially in relation to the change belief, partially because she wouldnt know what to get. i like to think tattoos are probably pretty controversial to the religion… some people think they are a very powerful form of change! something you cant take back. others disagree for the same reason, that its permanent. so pre canon no tattoos for her. but!! but! as i mentioned before with siffrin getting tattoos for his family, i think mira might consider something as well (confidence boosted by the fact that the others will be matching). other than that though, it just doesnt appeal to her much.

bonnie has no tattoos also aaand it will stay that way for. a little bit. this is something that upsets them greatly because i also like to believe that nille has PLENTY of tattoos! possibly some she even got when she was much much younger! irresponsibly, of course, and many of them are regrettable. so she steers bonnie away from making that same mistake too young (tries to encourage them to wait until they are 18 at least). maybe bambouche as a whole is a very tattoo-supportive town, which is where bonnie got their interest. this does not stop them from making little paintings up their arms and having the others help out as well, to make up for it, in a non-permanent way.

i havent actually designed what any of their tattoos would look like… thats gotta be something i sit down to think about,,, one day maybe ehe

I messed up on who got what heads tonight. The Color Reveal mermaid was supposed to go on the Moxie Teens body; blue-haired Fashionista #170 was to go on that made-to-move body. As-per @dollsonmain's side-blog post, the MTM is the east-Asian tennis player, who matches the purple-haired Odile-sculpt mermaid. They also match the GRL-PWR non-MTM yoga doll.

Speaking of the Color Reveal mermaid, she was thrifted back in May and has a chunk of her chin missing. I don't know why, but some of the hair is really frizzy? With the placement, I thought it was a different fiber, but it's not the one that changes colors. Not sure why it's like that, but a heat tool should help.

I think the Belle head came from @pandor-pandorkful. God knows who gave me the Moxie Teens body, at the rate I'm going. Like, I'm so behind on stuff, going back to 2019ish.

And speaking of older dolls, I thrifted Doctor Barbie back in 2021. Legs were a little sticky, but the hair was a dream.

Last image is from the east-Asian MTM doll's head. Someone didn't cut off all the extra plastic from inside the head. I thought it was really funny how it's the full piece of plastic, left from the rotary molding process. The Odile head also had extra plastic inside the neck, but a much smaller piece.

*There was a singing celebrity doll that used essentially the same body as Moxie Teens, Jackie Evancho. This is the singing version, which features a speaker and a button on the torso. =======

It was after 1am when I finished putting away everything for the night. Since it's 2am now, I'm gonna save more notes on my recent haul for later. :P

Finally: The NoHats AU doodles. Plus some sprite edits.

Usually I'd let things speak for themselves and keep my chattering in the tags, but I'll ramble about my context thoughts...

So. First of all here's a link (x) to the Nohats Origin Post for those coming in and going ????.

Anyway. These doodles are not in any obvious chronological order, though Loop going from pilfered bandolier (my headcanon for how Siffrin has all those pockets) -> custom outfit made by Isabeau, is supposed to generally denote 'just after the ending' -> 'a few months down the line'.

And speaking of, Design & Characterisation notes:

Overall: NoHats is suppooooosed to have the range to not just be ULTIMATE MISERY ALL THE TIME (but if you're a major whump/angst fan. go fucking nuts.) so these are supposed to be. The steps toward overcoming and living with grief but. The Misery Is Kind Of The Punchiest Part.... Oops....

Mirabelle: Taking the lead, continuing to carry the weight of the world on her shoulders. In the game proper she's already shown to, while yes, be emotionally fragile at times, be prone to trying to hold the team together. I feel she'd do the same here. It also would help that she'd presumably be medicated again? But I can't imagine her chosen-one anxieities would be super ailed by the death of her friend. I wanted to try and give her more differences? She follows the change belief after all and is thus liable to switch up her style in general... But I didn't have a strong vision for this, so. The ball is in anyone's court. Her design changes here are keeping one of Sif's safety pins a la qpr bonding earring, and has the bell pendant at Loop's (oddly pushy) suggestion.

Isabeau: Taking it. Badly. Depression mullet and beard in tow. However, you best believe he is trying real badly to hide it. Loop very much does not reveal their identity to him because What The Fuck Would That Even Do. That's Scary. but they do try to comfort him while mentally regarding him "off limits". Backs themselves into some very unfortunate corners by alluding to their unfulfilled relationship with their Fighter as a point of common ground. I don't imagine this would go super great when recontextualised later after Loop is inevitably found out. Just in general oh good god what the fuck. this is like a radioactive pit of survivor's guilt.

Bonnie: Taking it probably The Worst. This is a child. Who was already feeling guilt. This is who everyone else is trying to keep it together for. Mirabelle and Isabeau would likely be putting up far less of a front without Bonnie around. They take the hat and take on Pocket Duty. They also have slightly more sif-y hairstyle but... Don't worry about it. They'd have Nille to fall back on once she's picked back up, and Loop almost certainly attempts to redouble efforts on making them feel better but seeing as how closed-off Bonnie can already be, it'd likely be difficult. However they would probably take Loop's identity reveal best...?

Odile: Odile's design.... ! Does not seem to have changed? How odd! Well. I'm sure she's dealing with things in a regular and non-cloistered manner. I already think that a regular Postcanon Activity for Odile could be her finding out about the potential for sif/loop to translate books and thus Knowledge in their native tongue assuming that ability sticks around postgame. Something something culture can never truly be wiped out etc etc. But putting it in this context. Makes it more desperate, more of a deflection for something else.

Loop: Helpful Loop. Well. They win! I feel like the entirety of ISAT being about Siffrin's mental state means I don't need to spill much ink here? You get it I think. I can't outdo the source material man. Anyway I imagine Loop is given clothes by Isabeau before they know who they are, but after they've become genuine friends. The outfit is in genuineness, on both sides from Loop and Isa, in having the cloak be a nod in respect to Siffrin, since Loop's "shared culture" would have to come up vis a vis cultural funerary traditions. Hard to avoid divulging that one...

What Do I Do?

I have been teaching myself pixel art for four years ever since June 2020! I mainly draw bugs of sorts, mostly moths! I have also gotten a bit in to game programing, I love exploring the ins and outs of what makes a game truly shine! Other than that, I have been working up to one day start a small webcomic that uses a pixel art style, I've rarely seen this done, and would love to see it more!!

ooo how about jewelry taste. dangly earrings vs studs, do they wear bracelets, rings, flashy vs elegant, etc

mirabelle has so many cute trinkets! we know she loves accessories that go ding ding, and she'll layer a ton of necklaces so they knock against each other. sometimes they all match nicely, sometimes it's eclectic chic! she adores metal charms and carved beads, especially charmingly unusual shapes like an itty bitty fork, ducky, book, etc. as well as classics like lockets and bells! she tends to fidget with rings and lose track of them, so she avoids those. post-canon she decides to stop wearing earrings, so she turns her novelty earrings into bracelet/necklace charms! and gives her more basic studs to isabeau so he'll actually own some basics.

isabeau is all about shapes and contrast, so he likes chunky beads in materials like turquoise or jasper that have different shades marbled together, metal geometric shapes, wire-wrapped stone, and unique arrangements of elements. he likes funny noises too, but will go for one complicated necklace instead of multiple single strands. he definitely tends towards statement necklaces and earrings — he used to run into trouble because he only had statement pieces, so they would clash terribly, but then he started buying more matching sets. he loves bonding earrings as a romantic, but is a little torn because there's no way any two earrings could match all of his fits...

odile is the kind of person to pick a nice look and stick to it, so there's not much variety in her accessories. she has her glasses gems, a pair of pearl studs, a pair of silver studs, and a couple sentimental rings that she keeps somewhere safe instead of wearing. we know bonding earrings are popular in ka bue but not as universal as in vaugarde; i think it would be cute if ka bue had a whole language of earrings and rings, with different gem types/cuts/colors denoting different sorts of relationships and emotions. so she's got, like, a [daughter, you are the most important thing in my life] ring from her dad, and a [lover, we change each other] ring from an ex.

siffrin is all about sentimental pieces!! it doesn't really occur to him to buy himself jewelry, but isa or mira will see him looking at something in the market and buy it for him and suddenly the aesthetic appeal that sif had mildly enjoyed doesn't matter at all compared to They Gave This To Me. siffrin tends to be drawn towards solid shades or starry dots, and smooth, swirling shapes. isa also gets them stimmy pieces like a bumpy bangle or spinny ring, and mira gets them cute things that remind her of them like star pins or kitty charms. he's just so fun to give trinkets to, even bonnie and odile have gotten him some, so he's working up quite a collection! he carefully rotates through everything, and keeps some pieces in his pockets when he can't fit everything he wants onto his body or doesn't want to wear any jewelry that day.

bonnie's bracelet is smooth wood, and they're going to be very upset the day it no longer fits over their hand. they prefer non-rock materials like wood, shells, bones, and sea glass, because that's just way more fun! they made shell necklaces with nille all the time, so many that it doesn't matter how often they lose them.

loop goes full magpie! since they don't have to buy necessities like food, they're less careful about spending money than siffrin, plus they're more desperate to capture any scrap of joy. they also have a bit of "everyone else is an npc" brain and "i am both above and beneath normal rules", so they're more comfortable with stealing than siffrin is. they like drapey chains, black and white beads, and unusual pieces. they like the pressure stim of very heavy necklaces and the clack of many bracelets. once when one of their favorites broke they procured the tools to fix it, and started modifying the stuff they own and stringing trinkets onto chains!

I’m back on tumblr after leaving in 2016 because baldurs gate 3 appears to have gotten me back into fandom. I write and make art, and most of my posts are going to be Karlach related bc that’s my wife :)

I also will be posting spicy 18+ content so minors dni!!!

I have two saves running right now:

One with a @galesleftearring (the one I play most) with a non-binary tiefling named Odile, romancing karlach

A second solo run with what is originally a dnd character from my first ever campaign named Beiro, attempting to romance Shadowheart

I have lots of fond memories of tumblr from when I was growing up, and always felt a really strong sense of community here so I’m hoping to find that again!

Unpopular opinion: I love Renata. I really do. She's the best 1st soloist and should already be a prima. Everybody agrees. But she's just not a swan. I look at her, I see an amazing technique, understanding of the character, but not a swan. In my opinion, it's definitely the hardest role for a ballerina to conquer. She's got to be extremely gentle, but not too cold. Very powerful, but not too sharp. Extremely sentimental, but not too sad, caricature like. At the MT, I think the last one to archive that was probably Shapran. Iliushkina, Shakirova and (probably) Khoreva are just not swans. No hate towards them, honestly.

Second unpopular opinion lol: I think Nagahisa, Lukina and Nuikina would make good Odettes.

Now for the not so unpopular opinion: if they gave Khiteeva the opportunity to perform O/O, she'd probably be the best one of her generation. She can pull the best of both characters and has the amazing port de bras. I honestly think she would be the best O/O in the company after Skorik's retirement (which will probably take a while anyway😅).

(I don't know if she'll even go to the MT, but the student Daria Kulikova looks very promising for the role of O/O too. I know I'm thinking waaaay far ahead lol)

There is so much to chew over!! I saw snippets of Shakirova's debut and she is technically strong and impressive. I also don't want to rush to judgment based on a few clips on social media, but I felt her Odile was technically amazing if a bit too vampy. I felt she overplayed her strengths (if that is even possible!) and could "tone it down" in Odile. Yes, more lyricism in Odette is needed, but I think she can develop into the role as she seems to improve in every role she's taken on. Someone posted on YouTube a comparison of her first Kitri to her current Kitri — and she's really grown into the role! SHE IS KITRI! I'm not sure about Nagahisa. She is naturally an Odette. Hands down, she would be wonderful at Odette. But can she pull off Odile? I'm not convinced. I think Lukina has the technical ability and certainly has a GORGEOUS line for 0/0, but she's constantly criticized for not having a lot of acting range. (I'm not on that bandwagon, but it's truly hard to say simply from watching short clips.) Niukina, I'm not so sure. She exudes sheer joy in her dancing. I could see her in Aurora, for sure. Not sure about O/O. I haven't given up on Iliushkina. If she can get through her injuries and technical bobbles, I think she could be an amazing O/O. I've been very impressed with the clips I've seen so far, but to me it seems that she struggles with….strength. (As a non-dancer, not sure what to call it, but that's what is seems to me.) Jury's out on Khoreva. She has yet to debut O/O. I want her to succeed because she loves ballet so much! Let's see... But for Khiteeva. She has the acting chops. That is one thing she has in spades above all others. I'd love to see her in Giselle first. She just exudes romantic ballerina to me — and I doubt they'd give her O/O — because she's not the super-skinny, long-limbed type that MT favors for that role. (i.e, Plotnikova.) But I fear they are preparing her for what I'm call a "utility ballerina," (i.e., Kolegova, Osmolkina, Matvienko.) Someone who is technically strong, can do all the things, and will get to dance some of the big iconic roles, but will never been seen as prima. I hope I'm wrong because I LOVE Khiteeva. God, I hope I'm wrong about this. BTW, Valeria Kuznetzova has joined the Mariinsky after graduating from the Perm School. She won the silver in the juniors division at the MIBC. I was blown away by her last summer and she's dancing the White Swan PDD in an upcoming divertissement.
