Had such a dope experience this weekend. I was popping up with @juakaliproducts this weekend at the @noirlinians Meet Up/Pop Up and decided to put a few of my books out. This woman comes by really excited and starts to tell me how awesome the book is and how the author is also a dope performer and how she tells EVERYONE to read this book and reads it often herself. We shared a laugh when I told her I was the author, and then she went home to get her copy she'd bought from me THREE years ago. Y'all know when you see a book and can tell it's been read? Hurt

After years of hiding in the back thoughts being afraid of principles, of being judged. 

Forced to adopt an identity poisonous to my very existence. Everything that I believed in. Everything that I stood for

Forced to take silence in the trunk. I thought, “I almost forgot to exist.” 

My heart torn into a million fragments. I frantically search for each shard careful not to cut myself in the process. 

This feeling, flowing into a brand new me. Excited to see the new day.

Snacktivity: HOT WINGS HAIKU!!!

On April 8th, to celebrate National Poetry Month and Big Class' Pizza Poetry Project, The Rosa F. Keller Library and Community Center hosted a teen activity called "Hot Wings Haiku" wherein youth created a haiku as a group while eating hot wings. 

We warmed up with some animal haikus and the creation of a word list (w/ syllables counted) of words describing hot wings. The first haiku/stanza was created while smelling hot wings. The second was created after eating one hot wing, and so on. The last was made when they ran out of hot wings. The only thing we needed were more hot wings, more juice boxes, and more seats! Next year we will! It was awesome.

Our haiku was submitted to the Pizza Poetry Project and can be read below.

 A Hot Wings Haiku

When I eat hot wings, They burn my mouth except when they are very mild. Too hot for my mouth, It made me sit on the couch And it made me fart. They are so juicy That they make me want to drool. They make me thirsty. It makes me so sad, When we are out of tasty Wings. I want to cry.
