this goes for everything from wheelchairs and noise cancelling headphones to fidget spinners and acupuncture rings. You don’t need a diagnosis to start accommodating yourself. Especially on the mobility side. Trust me when I say that the only people who want those are people who need them. you aren’t taking resources from others you are using them as intended. you don’t need anyone’s permission to make your own life easier.

hey spur of the moment thing, i think i might benefit from noise cancelling head phones but i dont know where to begin looking for them. what headphones/brands do you guys use/recommend? which ones should i avoid?

i love my noise canceling headphones because when i use them & it’s silent in the room, the white noise the headphones create make it sound like it’s raining and i just sit here like this: happy, listening to my fake rain

I finally got noise-cancelling headphones provided by the school and they are a literal life changer! And I'm allowed to keep one of the SERT rooms fidget toys in my locker now! Especially with exams coming up, these will help me so much with focusing and studying.

Is it harmful to wear ear defenders or noise cancelling headphones a lot?

The window air conditioner unit in my room is so loud and has to almost be constantly running to keep the room livable so i started to wear some ear defenders but they kinda make my ears (inner and outer parts) sore and i also dont want my tinnitus getting worse.

I feel like I'm getting weird looks for wearing sunglasses both inside and outside especially when it's cloudy or even raining but even when it's cloudy or raining the light is too bright and hurts almost and especially when there're other factors like noise and crowds and stuff. My brother says when I'm wearing my ear defenders and sunglasses I look stupid, I think it looks a little like I'm preparing for an explosion.

Sooo... I finally bought good headphones with ANC!! Their model is Sony WH-1000XM4 and they're VERY expensive, but I tested them today and their ANC and sound quality are really amazing!! (I still need to test them at school, uh). And, what's really great, they're so soft and comfortable! I can use them for a long time and my head won't hurt! And their functions are really amazing too, I can do so much with just gestures and skffmsstmstk. I really really recommend them 💖

(I finally won't suffer because of too loud sounds, I can't... I can't even say how happy I am.)

Ear protection!! It's so important for a lot of autistics. Mainly for us. We need ear protection 24/7 but at times we don't think we need them, and we regret it after.. We get overstimulated quickly. But the mornings are so hectic we forget our ear protection, whether it's our headphones or earplugs, and it was bad. This is your reminder. Ear protection protects us. It protects you. It helps us. wishing my noise-cancelling headphones had a 'cat override' feature so i could still hear their sweet chrrps and purrs while i work. human noise may be insufferable but cats are not.
