Both have lost their boyfriends in really tragic ways

They build an empire based on the ideas and visions their lovers had

Evil businessmen

Both had something named after their boyfriends (Nohobal and Gus had a scholarship named after Maximino Arciniega)

Hank built a statue of Cristobal, Gus had a fountain dedicated to his lover

maybe Hank will go full Gus Fring next episode??

They are obviously pretty much the opposite of each other, but that makes the parallels between them even more interesting. Gus is cold and seems to be emotionless, while Hank is a warm and genuine person, yet they have so much in common, I couldn't ignore the parallels!

Heart of Darkness by Rachel Eliza Griffiths

Years ago I went to Noho Star with some poets & Cecil Taylor. Noho Star is closed now & Cecil died yesterday. I walked to Union Square & watched black men playing chess. Rubbing their jaws while the afternoon light poured down the gentle rooks of their fingers hanging above a queen or pawn. Cecil Taylor sat across the table from me. Wearing leather gym shorts, rainbow-striped kneesocks, a fringe vest, & a face so musical I could hear the notes blunting & banging as he low-laughed & looked like a lion who had bitten off the ancient secret of a soft roar. I liked him right away. Said yes when he asked me if I would share a dessert with him. I in an ivory dress that was vintage, the kind my mother would have worn, with chiffon sleeves—the shining air made the loose dress cling to me. The way a special music clung to Cecil Taylor, followed the radical swing & swag of his voice. Do you want to have the Heart of Darkness together, he said. That looks sweet enough. I remembered later when we stood on the sidewalk, sugar & poetry in us. Heat coming off the summer night in the city always made me feel I could never leave New York. He kissed my cheeks. Said he had been fooled. I didn’t think they made women like you anymore. Tipped his cowboy hat & took off his sunglasses. My god, in the dark his eyes burned so clear & wild I thought the sun was out, roaring through our hearts like a song, daring its hunter to aim.

But after tonight’s show, held in an empty retail space in NoHo, Wu said he wanted to celebrate fashion that feels right for right now, not the distant future. There was indeed something refreshing about seeing his models burst into the room (from the icy sidewalks of Bond Street, not a cramped backstage) looking capable and unfettered in their lean midiskirts, fringed coats, and knee-high boots. Through Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, she has served on numerous reading committees, in addition to serving as Chair of the National Playwriting Program. She has been commissioned by Sierra Repertory Theatre to adapt Yoshiko Uchida’s children’s story, Journey to Topaz for touring; her play, Blue Roses, based on the life of Rose Williams won the international playwriting competition for Prospect Theatre Project; her play, Pitchin’ Pennies At the Stars was a finalist in the Mildred and Albert Pinowski Playwriting Competition; and her play, My Life As a Circus Baby is a 2014 Heideman Award finalist through the Actor’s Theatre of Louisville.

A former Literary Associate at the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts. She is currently the Chair of Theatre Arts at Glendale Community College, Glendale, California where she teaches script analysis, acting, directing, and playwriting. She is a guest artist at the Orange County School of the Arts. In Los Angeles, she writes for SkyPilot Theatre Company, Moving Arts (Car Plays), North By South Theatre, and has had plays selected and performed at the Secret Rose Theatre in the NoHo Arts District, Theatricum Botanicum Seedlings series, and Scribe Stage.
