"Genocide is a little dramatic," Lucius drawls. "Those can't be the exact charges." His face ever so slightly betrays worry. Conspiracy is something that can be fought. Mass murder, on the other hand, implies some sort of evidence . . . evidence of his more sordid crimes. The sort that would fall into the category of sadistic fun with Muggles more than pragmatic removal of enemies. "Mass murder implies a great deal of corpses."
Lucius's most traceable crimes are the use of the Imperius Curse in the first war and the murder of several important Ministry officials. Even then, evidence is scant. But if . . .
Well, Lucius can expect Azkaban. If he's lucky.

Lucius, struck with some sympathy, pats her on the shoulder. "Take a deep breath," he advises. He waves his wand and summons a chair over. "Sit down." She's one of his house, and thus his responsibility, even if she's behaving rather stupidly. "You've been Confunded, I think. Was it Parry? I'll give him detention for a week."
Yet as Lucius examines her he begins to suspect it's worse. She looks completely lost and confused even without the things she's been babbling about. And she's wearing different clothes. She has props. Maybe this is an Obliviation gone wrong? Father's regaled him with the damage memory charms can do before (he claims that one of his school friends went mad from it, but Lucius suspects he's just saying that to scare him.)
"Whatever it is, we'll fix it," Lucius says. "It's Hogwarts." It's blatant lying for the sake of comfort, but people like that.
Frustrated and bewildered by the day's events thus far, Irascibel finds herself marched to the Hospital wing with the Prefect watching closely all the way. As they walk, she establishes that all the students, all of whom are unrecognizable to her, are wearing that strange uniform. Even stranger still is that the girls are wearing short skirts without wool stockings and they are showing their legs. Suddenly Irascibel feels like she sticks out like a sore thumb with her overly modest attire, a feeling made worse by the fact that students are definitely staring at her.
Then, they walk into the Infirmary, which does not look anything like it should, or at least how she remembers it looked. The beds are different, as are the dividers. Everything is more utilitarian. More to the point, Irascibel can't say she's ever seen the lady standing there tending to a bedridden student.
"Where is Nurse Blainey?" Irascibel demands, putting her hands on her head as the gravity of her situation begins to sink in. "No, no, no. What is happening right now."

Lucius stands at the crime scene with his hands held loosely behind his back. It appears much different in the light of day, with Ministry officials swarming all over it. The blood is no longer dark pools in the moonlight but rusty spots on the grass cordoned off by magic. "That's some small comfort," Lucius drawls with appropriate gravitas. Damn, is what he's thinking. He'd wanted to stick around, really make it hurt . . . but that means he couldn't get it put down as an accident.
"Do you have any clues as to who . . . or what . . . is responsible?" he asks casually.

Sirius is a strange anomaly for the Blacks; Lucius has always felt bad for Walburga and her wayward Gryffindor son. The House could be forgiven as some natural variation, but the boy consorts with blood-traitors much too easily.
"If you think we share common ground, why are you here?" Lucius asks. He can suspect the boy knows of his involvement with the Dark Lord (the Mark sits there, under his sleeve, and he's had to stop himself for months from checking that the buttons on the wrist are still intact). "Even if you characterize this as a purely pragmatic union, she must be intact to bear my children, must she not?"
It's not. Lucius loves her, more than he's loved any girl before. But that's none of Sirius's business.
Sirius doesn't know him as well as others do. He doesn't want to, nor does he need to, but he DOES want to make sure his cousin is protected. She deserved at least that much. The man also doesn't think Lucius would willingly hurt her, but again, he doesn't know him all too well.
" I surely would hope not. " He replies, dark brows raised as he looks at the other man, "I believe we have common ground we can agree upon - Narcissa and her wellbeing. I obviously come from a place of familial love and care for her life. I expect you also care for her so you can see my sentiment."

Lucius's eyes are dangerous, his tone deceptively soft. "Really? My wife invited a blood-traitor into my home to see our son?" He steps forward, his hand close to his wand.
"I think there's been some kind of mistake, Andromeda. You are certainly not allowed here, let alone near my son."

↪ 𝑺𝑳𝑬𝑬𝑷𝒀 𝑯𝑶𝑳𝑳𝑶𝑾 . ( a series of sentence starters from the 1999 film “ sleepy hollow ” . adjust phrasing as necessary . )
help , here — lend a hand .
just a moment , if i may —
i stand up for sense & justice .
do make certain you meet with success .
such a day for such a sad farewell .
this is such a silly game .
be a sport & stop complaining !
play along , you must .
forgive me , i didn’t know .
we haven’t heard your name yet , friend .
you need some manners .
if we could speak alone ?
how much have your superiors bothered to tell you ?
you are horribly old - fashioned , aren’t you ?
feel free to form your own opinion , though it appears you already have .
it seems i’ve made matters worse .
i’ll leave you to your business .
excuse me … i should apologize .
is it me , or are you this nervous around all women ?
do be a dear & tell me all about it .
sounds like an extraordinary place to live a life .
there is no such thing as magic .
to call a person superstitious is to imply they fear magic .
poets have silly notions .
you do believe me now , don’t you ?
you need less big words , & more common sense .
what the hell are you doing ?
i am not here for revenge . i am here to bring justice .
i manage fine alone .
i deserve to help you . don’t you see how much this means ?
what are you spying on ?
i beg you , no more , please .
i will not allow it . i will not !
why was i not told of this ?
you should step outside .
sorry for disturbing you . i thought a forgotten candle was burning .
having trouble sleeping ?
i have something to show you , if you have a moment .
these scars . how did you get them ?
oh , you are hopeless .
i have a gift for you . true magic which even you will not be able to deny .
are you saying i should be frightened ?
what will it take for you to realize this is no laughing matter ?
don’t be afraid … don’t be afraid .
you promised justice . people have put their trust in you .
why would you do such a thing ?
leave me . you are not welcome here .
allow me some time .
the things i said to you before … i was wrong to say them .
every word you spoke had truth in it .
if you want me to go , i will . do you want me to leave ?
i no longer know what i think or what i feel .
why are you so afraid ? is there truly such harm in uncertainty ?
i should be going … good day to you .
i’m one of the few people who likes you .
i apologize if i worried you .
my god … what has happened ?
yes , i did notice that , thank you .
i am a bad habit . there’s nothing for it .
don’t let him get you .
lay still , [ name ] . do not move .
i’m drawing bad blood from the wound .
you were half - drowned when they found you .
i serve a fine purpose alive .
midnight seems an appropriate time .
hide in my room & bolt the door til i return .
i was getting worried .
do you have anything to clean it with ?
i know you saw me .
i know you followed me last night .
i appreciate your concern .
you are so upset now … & yet , you seemed in such good spirits last night .
why have i not seen your face for so long ?
i have been reading your journal .
what would you have me believe ?
if you think i am behind this , say it .
call me a liar , then , & a murderer .
what is stopping you ? what has happened to your ability to transcend sentimentality ?
don’t dare stand looking as if you still care for me , after all that you have said .
if i were to confess , would that ease your suffering ? would that make it easier for you to hate me ?
the next person to lay hands on me will have a bullet .
you do not know all that has happened .
why … why are you like this ?
to hell with this place & all the people here .
won’t you change your mind ? what can i say to convince you ?
take me with you . there’s nothing left for me here .
forgive me . i failed you .
you … you’re alive .
no one will believe your lies .
i am not going to kill you . not me …
you cannot kill what is already dead .

❝ i haven't been human in a long time. ❞
Lucius remembers being human. It was short, a soft sort of adolescence dragging into his early twenties. He'd liked wine, though he barely recalls the taste of it. When his father finally dug his fangs into Lucius's neck, all he'd wanted was blood.
Blood clings to the edge of his glass. It's tackier, thicker than wine. It stains his tongue red as he swallows. "If you were, I would've killed you when you passed the threshold." Yet he still looks down on her - metaphorically, as he sits on an old armchair and takes her in. There are vampires who choose to make some kind of peace with humans, even live beside them. Usually the younger, weaker ones. Like Draco, he tries not to think.
"Explain your presence in my home." The Manor stands proudly, where it has stood for nearly a millennium, rather like Lucius himself. Perhaps she's one of Draco's friends - but she sounds American.

There are many ways Lucius is capable of expelling Sirius from his home, but he rejects the impulse. The intimation that he would ever willingly hurt Narcissa, however, stings. It's good he doesn't think you're soft, Lucius thinks - that's what Father would say. To Father, everything is weakness. Lucius sometimes feels that he's right. It doesn't change anything.
"And who am I, really?" Lucius asks. "Someone who would marry a woman just to murder her in her bed two months later?"

Lucius doesn't want to be here. He is, because he'd negotiated for a new wand from them, but a permanent sneer is fixed on his lips as he looks around. Fairies. The Dark Lord would have burned this kingdom down and Lucius would have played his overture. Maybe this is Weasley's idea of a joke, or maybe the queen really did want him here to answer any questions they might have.
It's worth it for the wand. The amount of humiliation Lucius has been forced to stomach over the past two years is more than he ever thought he could take. Comparatively, this is dignified. He finally got rid of the scars on his hands and face with an illusion spell, the rest covered in needlessly showy robes, his fingers covered in expensive jewelry.
Lucius imagines every inch of the palace burning in fiendfyre as his legs start to prickle painfully. Being forced to take in this inanity almost makes him wish he was back in Azkaban.
And now one of them is trying to address him. Lucius promised to be on his best behavior, so he only twitches a little as the spawn opens her mouth. Oh, a princess. Wonderful.
Or, perhaps, an opportunity? Lucius has never turned down one he could grab with both hands.
"Technically," Lucius says, "I agreed to be here. I did not decide on the . . . tour." He turns to her. At least she's not one of the peasant class. "I am Lucius Malfoy. And you are, of course, Princess Stella." He smiles, but cannot bring himself to bow.
@malfaith
She's heard they were having a guest through word of mouth, through the gossip of the maids and servants of the estate first. Stella thinks he mother never mentioned it because she knew how her daughter would react, how she'd quite literally disappear from sight for weeks on end. Stella knew that being the heir to Solaria meant she would need to brush up on her diplomacy, that with the newly signed treaty of the wizarding world her position was even more important. Her mother would eventually pass and the crown would fall upon her head, whether Stella wanted it or not.
In the days leading up to their guests arrival the castle was cleaned and the lavish, ornate tapestries were hung. All signs of good faith, of anticipating an amicable agreement on both ends. The few diplomats sent from the wizarding world were not mentioned by name, at least not to Stella as she stood by her mothers side when the Wizards arrived. A smile was given, polite greetings exchanged and the faery couldn't help but openly stare. She had expected the wizarding kind to look different, to have some defining feature but they looked just the same as the faery folk of Solaria, of their realm.
Her thoughts are instantly dismissed as a blond man approaches her, all regal and different from those of her mothers militia. Stella smiles because she knows she has to, a perfected expression that doesn't quite reach her eyes. This man is the one she's to sit with for dinner, to entertain for the evening while Queen Luna spoke about their realm and the opportunities of joined forces. They had witnessed what had happened among the wizards, the war that had been waged on the humans. It's something both sides are hoping to prevent from happening again.
Stella doesn't listen as her mother speaks, as their guests are given a history of Solaria as they slowly make their way down the halls and towards the grand dining room. She lingers beside the blond man, questions brewing inside of her, an innate curiosity that spurs her into asking, voice barely a whisper. "Was this of your choice?" The blonde princess asks, a coy smile pulling at her lips. She's never met a wizard before, has only ever spoken to faery folk and Blooms parents in the past. "Forgive me, I didn't catch your name either..." A half whisper so as to not disrupt what her mother was saying.

Nobody in this useless, stupid place is doing as Lucius tells them - not Bellatrix, not Cygnus's brat, not Potter. He feels like he's been awake for three days, and between the stress and the powdered glory habit he's picked up again, he very well could have been. Everything has faded into one dark, bloody blur with a circular, smoky light at the end.
The adrenal violence of it is something he didn't realize he missed this badly. Lucius's eyes are wide behind the mask, pupils small dots against the nearly-white gray. "Come with me," he says. "If you get the Weasley girl, I'll buy you bloodwhiskey."
Taking the Mark is not something anyone should do without due consideration. Imogen has seemed a little soft, a little hesitant, but what's done is done. A lifetime commitment - had Lucius understood it, when he took the Mark, younger than her?
In leaving, he points his wand at the blood on the ground. It's a bad idea to leave blood anywhere some Order wizard with basic dark magic experience might find it.
