Continuing with the P:WotR sims, I figured I might as well give making Nocticula a shot, seeing as I am on the demon mythic path in my current save. (And I accepted her Profane Ascension.) I mean, who wouldn't love a demon lord who built her city on the bodies of her rivals...

The silence coming from the Hand was thundering. The silence coming from the Hand was accusatory as Nocticula's painted lips curved indulgently, staring at the wide-eyed Knight Commander. The trembling sword held in the angel's grip was voice enough.

10. What lie do they most frequently remember telling? Does it haunt them?

“I promise.”

YES. He’s a flighty azata who has perpetually let people down his whole life. He couldn’t sit still for proper music lessons as a kid, and his professional lutenist father was nice about it but couldn’t always hide his disappointment. He wasn’t a great student. His career as a diplomat is modestly successful but plagued with undone paperwork. He failed a long-term relationship by not being there enough and not really listening. People count on him and he lets them down. He’s all too aware of it.

16. What makes their stomach turn?

He gets really emotional about witnessing people being treated as objects/tools/slaves. This is why he has such a bone to pick with Regill and the Hellknights, just as with the demon slavedrivers in Alushinnyra. Not to mention Areelu. And Nocticula, who calls him her weapon. And Iomedae, for the Wardstones and the way she’ll sacrifice people for the cause. He is truly a defender of freedom, dignity and self-determination.

After the game story, did your OC stay in Drezen? In what capacity? Did they ascend?

I haven't quite finished the game yet, so outside of being independent I don't know what Drezen will look like post-game. Presuming all goes well and Thaberdine stays on the throne, I think Ligeia would live there as an "advisor" for at least a few more years before moving on. She doesn't ascend or take Shyka the Many's deal to merge with them.

6. Did your OC give up their mythic powers? Why or why not?

She did not! While Ligeia definitely enjoys her Trickster abilities, she would give them up given the right circumstances. Unfortunately, Iomedae showing up at what felt like the final hour of the Crusade to start moralizing about the dangers of using the powers of the Abyss was not one of those circumstances. If anything, getting the chance to prove Iomedae wrong was more motivation to keep them than anything else.

20. Your OC's thoughts on Areelu Vorlesh?

A mix of resentment and begrudging respect, but she doesn't hate Areelu by any means. Ligeia doesn't like having been made an experiment against her will, although since she also doesn't have a full recollection of being an experiment, she finds it hard to hold on to any genuine anger about it. Also, the Trickster part of her can't help but admire Areelu's ability to get one over on Iomedae and Nocticula, and in some way she feels they're kindred spirits. So, it's complicated.

I know it’s a video game set in (one of?) the pathfinder universe(s). I know it has gods and demon lords and probably angels? I know you can make characters but idk if that’s full-on character customization or if there’s different options for characters and different paths you can take them down that lead to different endings. I know that sex and romance can play a big part in some of those paths, and that there’s a demon lord named Nocticula who your character can have sex with I think.

Part of my lack of knowledge is cause a lot of what I’ve heard is mixed in with oc stuff but a much larger part is cause my brain is like a colander soupbowl

spoilers for the whole game btw (not much for act 5 because her character arc kind of ends there but there is some spoilers for lann's romance post-game)

Maercy is a half-elf cavalier, her horse is named Wrecker and he's mean as shit. She jokes about him being evil, and that it's a good thing there's plenty of demons for him to kill otherwise Golarion would be at the mercy of her evil horse. Her favorite color is teal and the Carapace armor is essential to her character design. That is Her armor.

I don't quite know what her backstory is (I've always been bad at this) but I like the idea that she lost basically everything before she joined the crusade and now she's doing everything within her power to help as many people as she can, even to her own detriment. At the beginning of the game she's overconfident and cocky and her main strategy is to throw herself at whatever is trying to harm her or her companions first, hit is as hard as she can, and make it out alive. Hopefully.

she spends acts 1-3 being a little insecure about becoming the Knight Commander of The Fifth Crusade, but hides it behind a cocky and confident persona. She's achieved what was thought to be the impossible, how could she have any doubt of her success? But she does. The ritual that was supposed to send her to the origin of her powers, Elysium, (I picked azata with her, which has a Lot interesting content, and it fit thematically with her being a chaotic good follower of Desna) sent her to Areelu's lab. What does Areelu want with her, and what does she have to do with her powers?

Then she's stripped of her title and sent to the Abyss, after leading one of the most successful campaigns against the demons in 100 years, and her confidence slowly begins to crumble. What good is being a good person, when the people she helps turn out to be the very thing she's fighting against? She gets angry. Combative. Maybe even a little cruel, and she begins to withdraw from her companions.

And then the end of act 4 happens.

Who is she? What is she? How much of her life was really hers? Are her memories even real? All this time, the person that has brought so much success to the crusade has been the creation of the very demon who brought the Worldwound into existence.

She thought she was special.

She withdraws further, and considers Nocticula and Areelu's offer.

I like to think her companions, in particularly Lann and Woljif, bring her out of it. I really wish the game would've let the companions that the player had formed a particularly close bond with comfort the commander, but it's my understanding that the budget was running out when they finished act 5. Luckily, this means that I can do whatever I want 😎 also there's mods.

She winds up becoming extremely resentful towards Areelu, and immediately and violently rejects her powers at the first chance she gets. When she asks her companions their opinion, she's already made up her mind, but Woljif's response is what makes her the most sure of her choice.

She winds up having a sort of circular character arc, as she rebuilds her resolve and confidence, but she's more focused. She knows who she is and what she needs to do, and she doesn't need demonic gifts to do it.

In the end, she retires and goes adventuring with her beloved, Lann. Also i got the fucking alcoholism ending for him which IM REALYL UPSET ABOUT BECAUSE SHE GENUINELY REALLY LIKES HIM AND I FAILED TO MAKE HIM SEE THAT 😭 gonna fix that in my current playthrough. I think they have a bit of a rough patch post-game because a) Lann has the commander on a VERY HIGH PEDESTAL at the end of the game, which is understandable because this woman literally gave him the world (i wish i could've been able to challenge him on this in the game. Alas) and b) Lann is an anxious, overprotective mess and Maercy, as a former not-quite azata, is really big into personal freedom. They get through it and have twins (1 goatman baby who is normal and 1 lizardgirl baby who I am giving mental problems. they don't have names yet.) and grow old together.

It was a very tough call but I decided to see the Wenduag romance through and I think my PWOTR will willingly serve Nocticula. I already have another playthrough lined up that will see the Azata storyline through and do the Daeran romance the rest of the way. After that I plan to do an Angel run with a Sosiel romance. :) Maybe after that, Trickster with Arueshalae?

"#the detriment to playing a super lawful and way too serious commander is that I can't take fun flirty lines like this" just read this tag and funnily enough, my commander is also lawful. i like to argue that him having the audacity to flirt with nocticula counts as lawful for the purposes of rp since part of his deity's portfolio is carnal excess/gluttony.

this is very true! and it's a testament to how lawful can play in a variety of ways depending on the precise 'law' one follows (and I don't think pwotr always captures this tbh). my commander is very concerned with order, so it would be a violation of hierarchy for her (also why she's painfully polite to galfrey while considering how she might finally send her for pharasma's judgement). she's also just way too serious in general and un-flirtatious. but you're right: this isn't solely due to the lawful alignment itself and it opens up good questions re: what lawful actually means for each pc.

Thank you so much!! My silly little dnd oc / pwotr / fantasy sim posts bring me a lot of joy, and I'm glad that other people enjoy them. I'd keep sharing them whether people liked them or not, but hearing kind things about my work will never ever fail to make my day/week.
