As the world marked 'International Day for the Abolition of Slavery' on 2nd Dec, I am tempted to share a glimpse from Slave Market Museum at Bagamoyo in Tanzania. During one of our consulting assignments, I happened to be in Bagamoyo. It is said that in the first half of the 19th century, Bagamoyo was known to be a trading port for slave trade, with traders coming from the African interior, on their way to Zanzibar. The locals explained to me the meaning of the word Bagamoyo (Bwaga-Moyo) which means "Lay down your Heart" in Swahili. It is also refers to"give up all hope" as it was last day on the African continent before being shipped! Today, slavery is not merely a historical relic. According to the International Labour Organisation (ILO) more than 40 million people worldwide are victims of modern slavery. Although modern slavery is not defined in law, it is used as an umbrella term covering forced labour, debt bondage, forced marriage, & human trafficking. Few points to ponder. At least, let us take few steps to work towards #equality & #freedom! We say no to child labour & follow fair practices! #SaturdayReads #SaturdaySweat #SaturdaySpecial #SaturdayShoutOut #Africa #Tanzania #humantrafficking #slavery #slavetrade #FlashBackFriday #NoChildLabor https://www.instagram.com/p/B5xKbgxHqCe/?igshid=186twb9s54qh4

Bouquet Chocolates and Confections sources its cacao used in all our chocolate products from Northern Nicaragua plantation. We make sure children are being children not labor. The cacao farmers are paid a higher than normal but fare price, a network set up to bring the cacao to Mexico then to the United States. The American currency travels down stream as the cacao travels up. I know that other American bean to bar crafters care about their product and go to great lengths to make sure everything in ethical and morally sound. I / we care about that taste of our chocolate which is amazing from the soils from organically and ethically grown farmers. The Washington post article published this week spotlights BIG CHOCOLATE COMPANIES as it should for creating and using child labor. More to the point the United States FDA has no requirement for how much cacao solids are in foods named chocolate. So, 1 pound of cacao makes 100 tons of chocolate. Cheap heavily processed chocolate named foods that litter the grocery stores, food marts and so on. For our part we Bouquet Chocolates and Confections make sure our chocolate is made with respect and care for all to enjoy and a dash of LOVE. #nochildlabor #cacao #beantobar #chocolate #craftchocolate #pastry #culinary #foodservice (at Los Angeles, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/BybwNhHHYtd/?igshid=dsnc8mgo2z89

Thank you so much @jr @insideoutproject and @ericasimone for supporting #ProjectGhana @beautyforfreedom and @challengingheights We are so grateful! #endhumantrafficking #endchildlabor #nochildlabor #endcorporalpunishment #arttherapy #Repost @jr ・・・ Just received this amazing @insideoutproject from Ghana : PROJECT GHANA by BEAUTY FOR FREEDOM • Winneba, Ghana, 30 portraits • Many of the youth had never touched a camera before but showed such talent and dedication to photography. The organization hope this project can shine a light of the crisis of child labor in Ghana and bring hope to survivors and at-risk youth they serve. They are an estimated 49,000 children working on Lake Volta, 21,000 of them in hazardous labor. @ericasimone 🙏 #insideoutproject #winneba (at Winnebah, Central, Ghana)

Ever heard of Rose Hip Seed Oil? We if not, this is the skinny of why we love it so much that we added it to our Night Oil. Rose Hip Seed oil can go into the deeper layer of the skin, due to is small molecule size. Because of its ability go deep it carries its immense amount of essential fatty acids, vitamin E, vitamin C and B-carotene with it. These vitamins stimulate cologne production (restoring firmness to your skin), improve moisture levels, texture, reduce pigmentation, reverse sun damage and reduce wrinkles and fine lines. #SiobhanCosmetics Night Oil absorbs quickly and leaves you with soft and silky skin. Don’t be fooled by Night Oils name you can use it in the day too. Or founder has been using Night Oil for years and swears by her non- existent crow’s feet that this oil is awesome. #organicskincare #naturalmakeup #organicmakeup #toxinfreemakeup #minimalist #zerowaste #sustainable #organicskincare #indiemakeup #nontoxicbeauty #betterbeauty #noanimaltesting #nochildlabor

They come from an eco friendly factory that recycles it leftover production waste and filters its waste water. I like that the company is taking sets in order to help the environment. The scissors have a matte finish to them and feel very durable. I like that The tower point makes cutting small cuticles simple, allowing you a precise cut every time. The scissors are very sharp and provide a smooth cut. They open and close smoothly without any problem. The scissors come with a leather type material to cover the everything, except the handle. The cover is a great addition because it keeps the tips protected. I really like how easy this product is to use and how well they work as well. I think the extra narrow tip makes cutting cuticles or trimming hangnails very easy. Overall, this is a great product that is made to last a long time. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a great pair of cuticle scissors. I received this product for free in exchange for a review, but all opinions are completely my own. #Repost @beautyforfreedom ・・・ Our @beautyforfreedom #ProjectGhana initiative with the youth of the @challengingheights Friends International Academy has been a truly incredible experience. Please check out our first teaser featuring the brilliant youth in our art and photography workshops and take a moment to understand the crisis Ghana is facing in the fight to end child labor trafficking. Support the work of CH and donate at www.challengingheights.org Continue to follow our journey and support our global arts therapy initiatives at www.beautyforfreedom.org #ArtHeals #EndChildTrafficking #NoChildLabor #JoinTheFight #SupportOurYouth Soundtrack by @musicbyahmed Information Below Provided by the Trafficking in Persons Report 2016 (ILO) Ghana is a source, transit, and destination country for men, women, and children subjected to forced labor and sex trafficking. The exploitation of Ghanaians, particularly children, within the country is more prevalent than the transnational trafficking of foreign nationals. Ghanaian boys and girls are subjected to forced labor within the country in fishing, domestic service, street hawking, begging, portering, artisanal gold mining, quarrying, herding, and agriculture. Ghanaian girls, and to a lesser extent boys, are subjected to sex trafficking in Ghana. Sex trafficking is prevalent in the Volta region and is growing in the oil-producing Western Region. As part of a ritual to atone for sins of a family member, Ghanaian girls are subjected to servitude that can last for a few months or several years. Ghanaian girls and young women from the rural northern regions move to urban centers as far south as Accra to seek work as porters; they are at risk for sex trafficking and forced labor. (at Winneba)
