I'm sorry, but is anyone else flabbergasted that, as far as Deruth knows, his "drunk" 18 year old son randomly brought home and man one night and just kinda...kept him?
Like, Deruth, honey, why did you not question that?
Like, I get it: "it's a story and blah blah blah it doesn't matter in story or in the plot!", but realistically if my child brought home a random man while hammered I would be very concerned.

The crown hosts a ball. Of course all noble households in the Roan kingdom are present. Same goes for the Duke's House of Henituse as well.
Cale, who had separated himself from the rest of his family members to go to a corner and enjoy the desserts with the invisible Raon and had kept his Dominating Aura activated to keep the annoyances away, is approached by his youngest sibling.
Lily, being the brave knight she is, asks her eldest brother for a dance. Cale, who already feels guilty for being as absent from her life as he is and not being a proper older brother for her, accepts it for her sake. He needs to do at least this much for her as an older brother.
There is, however, one tiny problem.
Cale, no, Kim Roksoo doesn't know how to dance. The original Cale Henituse was so invested in his act of being a trash that he never bothered to learn it, so currently Cale had no muscle memory to rely on either.
Lily, who kind of predicted this when she approached him, ends up leading the dance. It's truly an unexpected sight to see Cale Henituse dancing a waltz in the middle of the ballroom. The Commander, who was often seen bleeding out on the battlefield as he fought in the forefront, elegantly moving his body to the flow of the music was truly captivating.
Basen Henituse has never been so jealous of his little sister seven years his junior. Neither has he ever felt so remorseful of being born a man. He wishes he could share a waltz with his elder brother too.
Cale, the magnanimous brother as he is, readily agrees to dance with him. When they're off the floor, Basen makes a victory fist as soon as nobody is watching.
Duchess Violan hesitates at first. But then she decides she should join in on the fun too. Thus, for the first time ever, she shares a waltz with her step son. Something she only used to do with her husband and son, Basen, in the past. She never expected there would come a day when it would be possible for her to dance with Cale. However, as it seemed, today was the day.
Deruth is much too overwhelmed at being reminded of Jour to ask Cale for a dance. He's just happy watching the others enjoy themselves.
The thing that Lily started, what was continued by Basen and Violan, naturally everyone wanted to be a part of it. Not everyone was lucky enough though. Cale accepted their requests for a dance because they were his family. As for the rest of the people present in this ballroom? He could care less.
He does end up sharing a dance with Amiru Ubarr and Rosalyn though, people who were good at leading the dance for the inexperienced him.
Once he returns from the ball, the children demand he dance with them. Raon, who watched his dance at the ball, tries to imitate his partners leading Cale through the dance. On and Hong are quick to learn as they watch before each following suit one after another.
It was the night the Black Castle shone the brightest and illuminated the Forest of Darkness to the point the name had never felt less fitting as it did that day.
Bonus:
Taking a leaf out of Basen's book, Alberu asks his precious dongsaeng for a dance. Cale is disgusted and flabbergasted but also plays along.
"dongsaeng, are you purposefully trying to step on my feet?"
"hyung-nim must know I never learned to dance, so it's expected."
"you didn't step on anyone else's feet though?"
"maybe they were just better at leading the dance than you are."
Alberu, baffled, "cheeky brat."
"the brat is older than yourself, hyung-nim."
"ha!" Alberu is in disbelief. "Well, i guess I should assign a dance instructor to my beloved dongsaeng then."
The dance ends and Cale whispers to him before walking away "sure. Send him to the Black Castle." Knowing it's near impossible for anyone to withstand the presence of the individuals residing there.
The next day, Tasha is at the Black Castle.
"My nephew asked me to teach the young master how to waltz. I was the one to teach that boy, so you can rest assured!"
Cale feels like he lost for the first time in a while.

Rot rot rot rot rot
(Is it working)
(👀)
Sooo... I have another fanfic idea! This one is gonna be longer and therefore chapters probably won't be up for a bit because i need to make a good base.
But the idea is basically, Rok Soo got put into little kid Cale right after the funeral.
This would allow me to have fun with some relationships that we don't get to see a lot like with Eric and allow me to change some relationships, too, since Cale would have never been trash.
Like imagine with me, kid Vicross being akward around Cale but also trying to cheer him up in tiny ways because he finds it so jarring that the cherry kids that used to annoy him to play now didn't even smile.
Or Cale, Eric, Amiru, and Gilbert becoming a close friend group.
Of course, there would be other developments, but if I rant about them all in this post, then what would be the point in writing the story?
Lemme know if this is a good idea or if I should just it rot!

Personal pet peeve: When a particular character has a lot of paperwork and such associated with their job and it has been established in universe that the work is extremely hard, complicated, and tedious but then in fanfic another character in another job position takes up this character's paperwork and does it perfectly. That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works.
Paperwork is not some nebulous pile of papers so easy that anyone can just waltz in and fill it up just like that. Paperwork, especially for large organisations, requires specific training and knowledge. A particular situation might have at least ten forms associated with it depending on how it happened, when it happened, who were involved, who were affected, who filed the initial report etc. It could be form A.1, it could be form B8, it could be G3 or D-3.2e, and then it has to be filed away in a specific way under a specific designation. At times it could be completely nonsensical but still necessary and part of proper procedure....all of that requires training and experience. Someone from a totally unconnected role can't just take over this position and do an excellent job at it, unless it has been previously established that they too had prior training and guidance in this.
Example: Cale(KRS) and Basen Henituse in Trash of the Count's Family. Kim Rok Soo before trasmigration into Cale Henituse was a team leader who has experience with important official documentation and paperwork for the Company. Basen Henituse is established to have been send to territory heirship classes and doing well in them. These two people being able to take on the other's paperwork load is not at all farfetched. (Same with Cale and Alberu though the latter would still have to sign and seal his insignia separately in the end.)
So no someone who's untrained can't just take someone else's paperwork and just breeze through them unless they are like supernaturally intelligent to the point of figuratively downloading all the necessary data and information directly into their brain or something.
Let's not even talk about how the character might have a particular way and organisation of doing things and someone else taking over their workload without permission might just mess that order up and their well intended actions might end up doing more harm than good.
Look at MXTX's Shang Qinghua or Ling Wen. As I'm reading SVSSS right now let's take it as an example.
Someone who can conduct and lead an audit: Shang Qinghua, specifically trained as an auditor. Yue Qingyuan- can possibly fill in for a specific kind of audit.
Someone who cannot conduct an audit: Literally every other Peak Lord on Cang Qiong. Not trained for it. Should not be in charge of it.
Someone who can file in medical paperwork: Mu Qingfang, head of medical operations in the sect.
Someone who can't do that: his Peak Lord colleagues. At most they'll be able to file in incident reports and other such forms that guardians of patients will have to fill in at a hospital.
People involved with merchants and associated business transactions: Shang Qinghua(logistics expert-procurement logistics), and for large contracts, Yue Qingyuan(Sect Leader). Other Peak Lords depending on the goods. For example the Zui Xian Peak Lord when they are negotiating prices for the raw materials or equipment for alcohol brewing or Wei Qingwei when they are sourcing metal.
Someone who can handle annual budgeting: Shang Qinghua. Person who allocates the funds according to the final budget- Yue Qingyuan.
Persons who can't do that: His colleagues who are definitely not trained in finances and accounting.
And so on and so on.
Shang Qinghua was invited back to the sect after literal treason because nobody else could do his job. That should tell you that people without specific training can't just take over the paperwork of another person's job unless their own jobs are connected enough to be sufficiently similar that they can handle it.
So no someone like Shen Qingqiu who's a scholar and tactician primarily, can't take the entirety of Shang Qinghua's or Mu Qingfang's or Yue Qingyuan's paperwork and fill it in for them, no matter how intelligent he is. Though I'm sure Yue Qingyuan would let him sect be damned lmao.
You see things like this in many other fandoms as well. Innocuous forms that anyone can fill in are okay but complicated paperwork for auditing, budgeting, logistics, diplomacy, business transactions, internal affairs, etc? No way. That all takes time to familiarize with before even properly filing them let alone actually doing them.
This is of course a personal pet peeve as I mentioned from the beginning. People are free to write what they want, read what they want, like what they want. This is no way an accusation towards particular individuals. It's just that for me it breaks immersion pretty quickly.

random thought #2
About Arm (don't take this post seriously)
[Mild SPOILER??? Can this be considered a spoiler? I'll just put this here to be sure. I guess I should also warn you that this post is stupid.]
Another random thought I had today that no one probably cares about but I find it funny anyways so here I go:
Without any context, the name "Arm" is absolutely confusing and hilarious.
Like if Cale is a normal person who has a bad sense of humor (like me) and saw Ron lose an arm, he'll probably be like, "They must really like arms, huh? Get it? Because their name is 'Arm'?" And Ron would proceed to give him different kinds of lemon treats, food, and drink for a month just for revenge.
But putting my bad sense of humor aside, I don't know why they thought of naming a secret organization "Arm" and think it's going to be intimidating. Like I know Cale is also bad at naming things (aside from Raon, that name is beautiful) but wtf White Star? I know you're old but at least give your organization a better name. It's like they just want to use different parts of the body as their name because they don't have creativity.
I guess he does have a point for uniqueness because I doubt anyone made an organization and called it Leg or Foot or Head so he's the first one to do it! Good for him.
It also says a lot about how utterly bored he is with his immortality if he doesn't even care about the bad name (unless he actually likes the name).
When I first read the novel, I couldn't take the name too seriously. I saw it and immediately laughed. And when Cale used it for his "Real Arm" agenda, I almost died because it's so funny without any context because one of Ron's arm is fake.
Tumblr media
But remember, the author also has a bad sense of humor for using the name "Bob" several times in the story so I think I can get away with this.
I suck, I know.
I'm sorry. Please ignore this post. This is just me sharing a post nobody should see but I did it anyway. Good day! I hope I didn't ruin your day with this stupid post.

yay quinn on a well deserved norris trophy win!
"Oh my God," Is all I can say as Quinn's name gets called for the Norris Trophy. Jack standing to my left prompts my legs to do the same, trying my hardest to take a wiggling Ellie from Quinn while Cohen sleeps on my hip, just five months old.
My face nearly splits open from the smile I'm wearing, Quinn ducking in to kiss my lips as he places Ellie on my other hip, kissing the top of her head and the top of Cohens. He moves down the line, hugging Luke and Jack and his parents before moving to the stage.
"Here, Elle Belle, come sit with Uncle Jack," Jack offers, her running over as soon as she's on the ground to take a seat with her 'favorite' uncle.
Thank you, I mouth, Jack just smiling as Luke takes my hand that's not holding the baby to my lap, offering me a smile as the tears trail down my cheeks in joy.
Tears are in my eyes as Quinn makes it up, standing in a room of legends to take his trophy and the microphone.
"First off," He begins, smile bright as day. "I'd like to thank my teammates. It's a great group of guys, and - um -" He pauses, and although I've caught him on more than one occasion practicing for this moment in our bathroom mirror, he needs this moment to think through the next minute and a half.
"The reality of winning an award like this is you can't do it alone, and you really need good players around you. And I certainly have that, so thanks fellas."
"Um- to my coaching staff, great group of people, love playing for you guys. Um- Patrik Allvin and Jim Rutherford, thank you for your continued mentorship and trust. To the Aquilini family, Roberto and Francesco, for being here, nobody cares about the city and the fans more than you guys, so thank you."
"Momma," Ellie tries to whisper, stealing my attention, "Daddy got his award?"
"Yes, baby, Daddy won," I answer, Jack and Luke smiling the brightest.
"And to my family more than anything-" I can't help but look to the Hughes beside me, people who have been in my life for years, and be eternally grateful that I was accepted into it. "My brothers, its surreal to be able to go through the same profession as you guys, and my parents, for your continued support and love."
"And to my wonderful fiance," Oh God I'm not prepared for this. His eyes meet mine, smile growing impossibly larger. "This has been the first season I've been blessed enough to be a father, and truly I feel that's what drove me to be the best captain I could be. I love you and thank you for bringing our gorgeous kids into the world."
I blow him a kiss, tears still streaming as Lu squeezes my hand, chuckling.
"He was nicer to you than he was to us," He mumbles, entirely a joke, but it does earn a small laugh.
"And most importantly and lastly," Quinn continues, eyes on the trophy in hand, "to Roman Josi, congrats on a great season, wherever you are-" His eyes scan the crowd, chuckling when he finds the man in question. "There you are, when I think Nashville Predators, I think you, and you're a fantastic player and they're lucky to have you."
He turns, eyes landing on their next target.
"And Cale, I probably love watching my brothers play most, but I'd say you're next on that list, and I've learned a lot from you, so um, congrats on another great season, and appreciate you guys. Thank you."
His eyes meet mine, smile wide and eyes wrinkled at the corner in joy.
This is my boy, the father of my children and the man I love.
I could not be more proud.

About the soul-swap partners:
I love that neither of them decided to stick to their given roles.  In either universe, really.
You’ll get what I mean.
Cale, who was Kim Rok Soo, does not keep up the image of trash.  He calls himself trash, he is called trash.  He does not keep his reputation.  Not the alcoholism, and he doesn’t throw bottles at gangsters.  No, he takes care of the underworld and other nobles in his own way (ie, recruitment or utter destruction).  He does not have his old reputation in this world either.  He’s not known as this cold leader who doesn’t care when someone dies, he’s known as a brilliant young man who cares way too much.  He’s known as an idiot who would rather pass out from exhaustion a week later than leave things to fester for one minute.
And then there’s Kim Rok Soo, who was Cale Henituse once upon an apocalypse.  (First the fuq of all, nobody knew jac squat about him in the first place, and being the son of his mother probably made him something of an automatic anomaly.  I assume just being a Thames makes you kinda weird.  But anyway!) He lived as trash, an alcoholic who threw too many bottles back and then at the wall.  Then he lived through 20 years of a losing war.  And he got tired.  Tired enough to listen to a voice in his head in his last moments, to switch worlds and bodies with some stranger.  And he chose the motto that reflects the sentiments of his soul swap partner to a T: let’s live peacefullly.
And he smiles now, as Kim Rok Soo.  He sits back in his office chair, with an easygoing attitude.  He’s not the trash that would only shout; he is sly, and he knows how to use his status to properly put punks in their place.  He’s the team leader who refuses to be mistreated by anyone.  He will not be used, he would rather do his work as he needs to.  He isn’t a lowlife with no responsibilities in the wake of a war he would be just about useless in; he has a niece he has to go home to.  He drinks casually, not too much.  And he smiles in a way that’s too bright for the cold Kim Rok Soo.  He’s too happy now to be called cold-blooded. It’s like there’s a fire in his eyes that had been lost ages ago. Something that was rekindled when he had someone to go home to.
Despite changing their own lives so much, they wound up being nearly the same as one another and that drives me a little insane.
And let's not forget the best part.  One famous line they have in common in every world:
“Should I flip everything over?”
Another thing: I think Cale's gonna start resembling Kim Rok Soo. As in, he'll start relaxing a bit as the work goes on, he'll learn to rest as he goes (as in actually rest) and delegate work properly. He won't brush past comments like he used to, he will look a person in the eye and go 'I can just leave this world and leave you to your fate' which I would love to see, honestly. I feel like their individual capacity to be petty increases with age, and that's probably one of my favorite things about these characters. So them finding new ways to piss off people who don't like them could just be made into its own series and I would sell my soul for it.

hmm, i just realized. since it's pretty evident that raon would def try to look like cale when, if ever, he'll have a human form, soo, wouldn't ppl think that he's cale's illegitimate child or something? ik many ppl know about raon already, but they've never seen his human form before so there's bound to be a misunderstanding in the beginning. some corrupt (jealous) nobles might even try to kidnap raon to threaten cale. oh man, the mere thought of raon, the great and mighty son of the dragon lord, getting kidnapped by a bunch of nobodies is so funny and ridiculous that i might just roll around laughing

Reactions to Crazier Bastard's Chapter 313
Brief summary: CH defeats Gisk. Cale learns more about the 7th Evil. Alberu receives a new quest.
==========
CH seemed to enjoy his fight against Gisk, the former hero, perhaps because they both had no formal sword training. So when CH defeated Gisk, the two talked about swordsmanship stuff. CH even enlightened Gisk about Gisk's sword having "roots".
We learned more stuff about the 7th Evil. It seemed like Neo "possessed" the body of the original dragon boss of the Cotton Candy Lair after an update, and nobody noticed the change except for DB because he was a mutant NPC.
As for Gisk's story, it was something like this:
Gisk was the son of a common farmer, and suddenly got chosen as a hero
He was a hero chosen by a queen and the nobles because of politics, so he was helpless against them and had to do their bidding
Something happened, and he eventually abandoned everything he had as a hero, becoming the 7th Evil boss
Dark Bear was originally the servant of the hero
The changed dragon boss appeared, and defeated Gisk, reducing him to a mere gatekeeper
Gisk also suffered from Neo's time prison whenever he fell asleep, constantly reliving the hellish time when he quit being a hero and became a boss
Now that I think of it, this chapter was another info dump chapter because we learned more about the game. 7th Evil was made up of several areas, each having its own fairy tale theme. Neo was the boss of the Cotton Candy Lair area. Gisk became the final boss because he defeated all the area bosses, and Neo became the final boss because he defeated Gisk.
There was also Cale's theory. The hunters excessively intervened in the game world, so the System AI sought to protect the game world from them, intentionally creating "bugs" like One to resolve it. And One was the one who created the mutant NPCs, revealing the truth of the world to them.
We're still in the Aipotu arc, but why does it feel like we've began the Game World arc? 😂
BTW, the strange power in the chapter title referred to Gisk calling One as a "strange power" because she revealed the truth of the world to him. So yes, Gisk was also a mutant NPC!
Gisk then entrusted CH with the hero's sword called Sword of the Sun, telling CH to give it to the hero, but only after gaining CH's recognition. Wait a second, why does this sound familiar? Isn't this Clopeh and the elven guardian sword all over again? 😂 And Sword of the Sun? Truly befitting Alberu, our sun!
CH gained a quest telling him to give the sword to the hero, and at the same time, somewhere else in the game, Alberu got a new linked sub-quest under the Main Quest 2 that he had yet to accept. The new sub-quest told him to "Get recognition from the swordsman who enlightened the former hero."
Thus, Alberu was confirmed to be the new hero. It was funny that Alberu thought he had a lot to talk about with Cale, but felt strangely uncomfortable. I am so looking forward to him finding out that Cale became an NPC boss. 🤣🤣🤣 And also excited to see a spar between master (CH) and student (Alberu). 🥰
Ending Remarks We're still in the Aipotu arc, right? 😂 Next chapter would be Cale finally getting to that control point. What would Cale do to solve the countdown bomb that would soon destroy most of Aipotu? And would an enemy dragon finally fight our Rasheel? 🤣
P.S. Thanks for the birthday greetings! 🥰🥰🥰

04:
Cale responded to the gazes directed at him. “I’m still trash.”
It's happened many times that Cale calls himself trash, even though nobody would believe him. But I think he sees himself that way because he's the only survivor from the battle against the 2nd unranked monster. Remember when he was in the failure test? What did the system say?
– Error. Cause determined. The voice continued. – There are numerous worst failures in the challenger’s mind. There is no ranking of failures in his mind. – He can not forget any of his past failures and recalls them all equally. – His uncertainty and fear for potential future failures are also on equal footing. – Unable to choose one due to the existence of multiple worst failures.
For Cale, every failure feels like the worst, regardless of its nature.
The numerous footage glowing green started breaking. The failure of surviving the battle against the unranked monster alone. The failure of seeing team members being injured for the first time since joining the company. The failure of losing a subordinate for the first time after becoming team leader. The potential failure of people around him getting hurt in the future.
And dude, after knowing about that, he just said
‘…Oh, this is good.’
Seriously, dude? If anyone's up for volunteering to send him to see a therapist, hit me up.

I wanted to talk about the side stories
Because @ladyteldra and I got some thoughts I'm incorporating in a fic. We might have thrown some of them out before?
Anyways
His Company (with a capital 'C', it's so well known it's just called The Company) does this
a third organization separate from guilds and the government, the company mediated any issues between the two other organizations in addition to taking care of monster invasions, guild inspections, and government audits among many other things.
His team seriously thought assassins might kidnap him
“…Do you think one of the illegal guilds attacked the team leader-nim’s house?” Agent Jung So Hoon’s voice was slightly shaking from anxiety. “Or maybe an assassin dispatched from overseas abducted the team leader-nim. Ah, I have a bad feeling about this. Doesn’t the team leader-nim live in the outskirts of the city? I’m sure the security there isn’t good either. Should I contact the Team 2 leader?” “Calm down. We will decide after going to the team leader-nim’s house.”
He's low key famous
Kim Rok Soo was quite famous not just in the company, but also throughout the industry and with the government and guilds. Although he had not known the name because this person doesn’t show himself in the media, he was the leader of Team 1, the greatest force in the company, as well as implicitly the leader of the company’s battle agents in the ‘Body.’ Furthermore, even the people in charge of the ‘Head’ were said to be unable to hold in their admiration at Kim Rok Soo’s abilities.
He had 0 mortality, always had a thorough plan, and really helped develop his people's talents
Team 1’s mortality rate was 0% since Kim Rok Soo became team leader. They had also not failed any of the missions they were assigned. Kim Rok Soo was said to come up with a thorough plan and complete the mission under any and all circumstances, even if he was lacking the resources to do so. Furthermore, many people’s abilities developed even further when they were in his team.
His team constantly worried about him
“Now I won’t need to worry about him dying!” His seniors showed their agreement at Agent Cha’s comments and smiles appeared on their faces.
Again a comment on the low casualty rate under his leadership, but also (from someone early after he took over as team leader)
There had been no deaths nor serious injuries on Team 1 since Kim Rok Soo became team leader. Although there were people who received minor injuries, nobody ever had to be hospitalized for longer than a few days because of a serious injury. Instead, the number of scars on Kim Rok Soo’s body continued to increase.
He probably got Instant around then? And was probably overdoing it already.
Choi Han, after getting Choi Jung Soo's memories, said he was able to realize Cale was Kim Rok Soo partly because he acted exactly the same.
So basically, we can picture Cale's time as team leader as, probably, him being exactly the same. Taking risks, overdoing it... But mostly in fighting monsters, doing government audits, and dealing with illegal guilds.
Also, again, he's famous.
And foreign governments may want to kidnap him.
We also know he studied monsters extensively, aided by Record no doubt, so I posit that he's probably the expert on monsters.
Which might be why they want to kidnap him? Not kill...kidnap. He's probably considered, like, a strategic resource or something
