Instead of talking about the powers that be, it's so Personal Choice up in here. It's, "well you shouldn't have done it then. I totally wouldn't because I know better." you don't wanna talk about the military industrial complex as a whole, and you don't want to talk about recruiters, you just want to pin the blame on Specific Individual People one-by-one, as if they're responsible for the system that they're being ground up in. someone was in the military? bad person, no matter what. it's easier to believe that, I guess, than to acknowledge that Normal People (with high school educations) are manipulated and incentivized into joining a system that is Bad. at like age 18. but yeah no that 18 year old should have just been smarter lol haha anyway here are some screenshots for no particular reason

Hello, just wanna start this off by saying that I love your art. I've decided to ask my favourite artists for art tips as I wanna get into it, but no matter what I do it never looks right. So, any tips?

okay so first things first, disclaimer! I AM NO PROFESSIONAL BY ANY STANDARDS, IM JUST SUPER INTERESTED IN ART, DO NOT TAKE MY WORDS AS GOSPEL AND YOU DO NOT NEED TO TAKE MY WORDS OF ADVICE (you didnt say i was but just to cover my ass)

I am still learning as an artist so this will just be advice that helped me, lets just hope i can remember what got me here, and this will be just me jotting down my thoughts as they come so maybe im not the best person to come to about this (i may repeat what other people say in terms of art so bare with me)

SO WITHOUT ANYMORE DISCLAIMER! YOU WANT ART TIPS FROM ME? WELL GET READY FOR SOME BULLSHIT FROM A PERSON WHO'S BEEN SO ARTSY FARTSY IN THEIR ENTIRE LIFE AND HAS NO IDEA WHAT THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT, WELL COME INTO THE SHIT TRAIN!!

Now i dont know if you are an intermediate artist, beginner, need help in specific areas or whatever the hell else but! here's the three main points i always wanted to scream at artists who are just starting out!

Your art WILL look like shit in the beginning

References and inspiration are YOUR FRIEND

DONT be afraid to trace

(I know I know this feels like regurgitated and it probably is BUT HEY STICK WITH ME)

does your art looks fucking trash? THATS GOOD!! KEEP DRAWING!! My art looked fucking ugly when i started and some might say (me) it still does, but thats okay!! You learn more and more from just drawing without any tips, art is a pure skill that builds up, do not be discouraged!! The point of art isn't to be the greatest in the world, it's to be at peace with what you create so if your art looks good to you and you are in a happy place in your progress, you are basically successful in my eyes at least (this doesn't mean to quit learning obviously but it'll come in time, be patient, do not push yourself! that's how you stop loving art and we don't want that happening!)

Ever find yourself asking "man why the fuck does (include art shit here) not look accurate??" well here's a tip, USE REFERENCES! DO NOT BE LIKE ME WHERE YOU JUST WING IT OR ELSE YOU'LL BE CRYING OVER YOUR DRAWING TABLET LIKE I DID AT SOME POINT!! Pay attention to the shapes of the reference, break it down and draw over it if you need to, shapes are very important in art and you need to be able to draw whatever you want in the most basic forms (im no good example of this, i really need to practice more aughhh). As well as references, inspiration is KEY!!! Everything is inspired off each other, nothing is original, so steal from your favorite artists!! Look at their speedpaints, look at how they use colors, analyze how they draw anatomy in their style, see how they use shapes, etc etc, learn from who you consider are the "greats of their times"!! USE ALL THE INSPIRATION YOU HAVE AT YOUR FINGERTIPS!!LITERALLY COPY THEM IF YOU WANT EVEN IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY DID THAT, YOU'LL LEARN WITH TIME!! just whatever you do, don't compare yourself so heavily against other artists, i know its hard, i do it myself even! If there is an artist who has a style you so so want, don't crumble if you can't draw in their style perfectly, you'll never win against someone in their art style. I suggest taking inspiration from multiple artists and mashing them together until it looks good in your eyes!!

That actually leads me to my next point! TRACING IS OKAY!! Now obviously I do not mean directly tracing over like some lines, showing it off/posting it and calling it completely original. I mean tracing over the references i mentioned before, or like what i said before, i believe you should actually trace from your favs! (don't call it original like i said before), tracing can help build memory on how to draw certain things like how i took a photo of my hands before, traced them, and then put it to the side to redraw it, making me understand futher how hands work! OR like how i traced a piece of art that i liked to understand how the artist drew their bodies, tracing is used by total professionals in the industry so do not be afraid!! You have total permission from me to trace my art and learn how to draw my wack ass bodies

and for a little extra bit, little bit of a hot take (I'm actually not sure how much of a hot take this is), i don't think you HAVE to learn the fundamentals to get into art. NOW BEFORE YOU RUN OFF SCREAMING AND SHITTING, IM NOT SAYING YOU DON'T NEED THE FUNDAMENTALS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!! I'm just saying that if you want to get into art as a complete hobbyist and just want to draw to yknow draw and be happy, you should just go for it! Again don't make art something you hate! I completely encourage learning the fundamentals but don't ever feel like you're failing just because you don't, get into it when you have the time! be patient with yourself, this goes for any hobby/skill but just sink some time into it, i promise you will get further in you hobby than if you push and rush yourself into complete burn out

OH AND HERES MY ULTIMATE TIP! THERE IS NO WRONG WAY TO DO ART!!

like. you are the daughter of Manfred von karma and you are three years old when your older brother comes to live with you. he's nine. as soon as you're old enough to remember remembering, your father tells you he is not your brother. you grow up with your father constantly telling you your brother is not your brother and that your father is not your brother's father. your brother's father is dead and he loves him more than anyone in the world. your brother never tells your father he loves him. you never tell your father you love him, either (you do love him, but if you told him that, he would yell at you). you and your brother grow up sitting next to each other in jury boxes and court lobbies. you both learn to be quiet and sit up straight. you both watch your father together. you both notice how he slams on desks in court the same way he slams doors at home. you both notice how he clutches files in his hands the same way he clutches your arm when you haven't been quiet enough. you both realize that there is no difference between work and home for him. you both realize that you are not children anymore, but you are von karmas, and that means you two are also always at work.

your father does not like your brother (he's not his son). your father likes you (you think). you will both be prosecutors just like your father. your brother begins to learn before you, because he is older. he doesn't like to talk about what he learns. you suspect he doesn't actually like being a prosecutor, but he is a von karma, so he will be one.

you like being a prosecutor because you are supposed to. you like papa. papa likes you. papa doesn't like your brother. it's evident. your brother is six years older than you but he carries unfathomable sadness you cannot comprehend. he does everything right, he is a perfect von karma (well, second only to you), and yet he is not happy because his father is not his father (this is the only explanation you can come up with). your father reminds your brother every day that he is not his son and so your brother never calls you his sister. he is even quieter than you are, and even more polite, and yet papa doesn't like him as much as he likes you. he is fourteen and you are eight and you call him your little brother, because he is your brother, but he's not as perfect or as important as you (your father says so), but god damn it he is your brother.

your father starts teaching you. he teaches you differently from how he taught your brother. he starts earlier and he gives you more time, more resources, more clothes, more desserts.

your brother moves out quietly because he is an adult and it changes. You are loud for nobody, you are more important than nobody, you are alone. your point of comparison is gone-- you no longer know how good you're doing at being a von karma. you get quieter. you play less pretend. you become better for it, and realize he was a distraction. on your thirteenth birthday your receive your first whip as a gift and plane tickets to Germany. your brother didn't get to go to Germany. your brother never earned a whip.

your brother sees you off (papa stayed at home-- he had paperwork and he felt there was no purpose to bring you to the airport himself when he could send a driver to do it). you are thirteen and about to become a licensed prosecutor and you don't know why he looks so sad to see you go. you don't know why you feel so sad to go. this is a privilege and you are a von karma and this proves you are better-- you earned this gift to go abroad. he brings you as far as security will allow and you don't hug. you call him little brother and his expression falters. he says something funny-- "I wish he wasn't trying to keep us separated on purpose." you laugh because why would papa do that? you say you're just getting to go because you're smarter than he is and you're going to be a better prosecutor. he is nineteen. he carries the same weight in his body now that he has his whole life. he doesn't say that you will be the better prosecutor. You probably won't. he thinks to himself that it doesn't matter who is better because only one of you is Manfred von karma's child. you won't come to realize that he was right for many, many years.

you don't see him again until five years later. you've grown to hate him just like your father. he doesn't write or call. his silence must not have been from pain, but as hatred for you. and he always was a distraction from letting you perform as best as you could-- father says so. he doesn't respect the von karma name-- he loses against a rookie defense attorney and you will not make the same mistake. He's a joke. he's a joke and his father died. his father died because your father killed him. your father's a murderer. the von karma name is stained with blood. your father is a murderer and everyone knows it. your father wanted to execute your brother because he hated your brother's father. but now your father is in prison. now your father has been executed. you are the only von karma left and it's your brother's fault, his fault, his fault, his fault for failing to do the one thing a von karma is meant to do: win.

you lose against the same prosecutor. You lose a lot. you get shot in the shoulder. You help the man who broke your perfect record. you don't understand. you miss your father. you hate your father. you don't know what your family name means anymore. you don't know who you are. you don't know what to do. you prepare to flee with your tail between your legs, a failure and coward. you leave your whip behind on accident.

your brother finds you at the airport. he returns your whip with a steady hand. the heaviness is gone. you don't know who he is, but you know he's not a von karma, not like you. you don't think you want to be a von karma anymore. you envy him, you hate him, you love him. he doesn't comfort you, knowing it won't work, so he does something worse: tells you the truth. it all makes sense and doesn't. you still dont know who you are but you know one thing above all: you are franziska and you are his sister and you love your whip. you cry. you tell him you hate him, that you'll be back. he looks at you with love, unafraid to show it now that the scourge on both of your lives is dead. he is allowed to love now and you think it's pitiful. you wish you could feel the happiness he has had to fight to earn. you want to hug him. you want him to hug you, but he doesn't. but he looks at you with so much love, and you realize suddenly how it must've felt to be him all those years back when you scorned him for the pain you feel now. you love him more than ever as you realize your father never really loved you, either. but your brother loves you and you love him and you hate him and you have to board your plane but you will see him again. you need to. you tell him it's to defeat him, but you know the truth. he does too. he gives you the mercy of not pointing it out.

you clutch your whip (how'd he get it through TSA?) and walk onto the plane alone, different, and a stranger to yourself. your older little brother watches you disappear.

you two then proceed to meet up in the court lobby at the finale of the game for a group picture and this tragic history of shared abuse, loneliness, and love is never ever brought up again.

"don't post links to pirate sites" as a security through obscurity strategy seems... weak. if a pirate site is so obscure that almost nobody can find it, it's also essentially pointless.

but yes, if a pirate site is common knowledge, the feds will be working on destroying it. so the idea is i assume to achieve an intermediate level of obscurity, where you have to have a certain amount of talent for asking the right people or searching the right things to find it. but... whatever capacity for research you are asking people to have on that front, the feds are equally capable of it, and they have a whole lot more time on their hands for tracking down pirate sites! security through obscurity is a losing game for piracy. the perfect sweet spot where people can find your pirate resource but the feds cannot is something of a mirage.

if not that, than what?

the current piracy system involves a few different tiers of accessibility, and various components that are more or less decentralised.

torrents are the most resilient tech because to stamp out a torrent (with DHT enabled) you have to suppress every seed. so, you have big public torrent trackers like TPB; these are well known and rely on hopping domains and redundancy for security. the ratio of seeds to leeches tends to be low, but the number of users is large enough that there will be at least a few seeds out there for most stuff. torrent clients have gotten a lot better at seeding strategies that take into account your seed ratio and what's currently available in the swarm, so if you just leave everything on seed and open your torrent client fairly often (use a VPN though lol), you don't really need to think about it.

then you have private trackers; these operate on an invite basis. the problem with this is that when the pool of users is so small, the odds of a given seed being online are also small. to prevent torrents dying, they gamify it: you get points for seeding and if you don't have enough points you can't download anything until you seed more. to help people get back in the game there will be 'freeleech' events. being active on a private tracker takes a bit of work.

and of course you have to get in in the first place, which tends to require a proven track record of seeding on other private trackers, and some kind of interview with the operators. getting involved in private trackers is a much bigger ask, you have to figure out where to get your foot in the door, and work your way up to the more insular trackers. it's like a mini subculture. it's valuable, but not scalable.

at the top level of inaccessibility is the warez scene. this is a whole subject that i'm not even gonna get into, go read wikipedia. historically this is where the files actually come from, before getting distributed on public trackers, usenet etc. but good luck getting in there lmao, they are understandably quite paranoid.

of course, for stuff to get on pirate sites you need somebody to go the effort of ripping and encoding it. this is where a major point of failure exists. when RarBG went down recently, the biggest loss was not the existing archive of torrent links, which can be backed up - it was that they were very active at converting scene releases into torrents with a decent balance of file size and quality, which then filter out into the various public trackers. that is much harder to replace! but what killed RarBG wasn't even suppression by authorities - according to their statement, it was a bunch of the admins getting covid or dying or fighting in the Russia-Ukraine war, which made the whole operation impossible to continue. so despite the thousands of people who download RarBG torrents, this single point of failure was overstressed and broke.

as far as the ethics of spreading links to pirate sites go... if it's something like a mega drive, yeah, the chances of a takedown are pretty high if it gets noticed! no question. but those things are by nature short-lived; if you want to use that for archival you're building on sand. there's also databases like emuparadise, but there was no saving that through obscurity, it just took Nintendo a minute to bring the case.

in this kind of centralised case, the clock is ticking from day 1. what we want is to maximise the number of people who are able to save copies while it's up, and then some of those people can put it up again somewhere else and keep the authorities playing whack-a-mole. (for a small collection of files, a sensible measure would be to make a torrent and a mega drive side by side, so that people can download the mega drive and then add the torrent to their client to seed if it gets nuked.)

as for torrent sites, the thing is that torrents rely for effectiveness on a swarm that is either very large or very responsible about seeding. if it's a public tracker, it has to be well known or it's pointless. instead of security through obscurity, the form of security for these sites is try to make the resource itself hard to take down - operating the tracker/archive in countries that don't have copyright treaties, maintaining mirrors, and of course distributing as many seeds as possible so the torrent can stay alive even if the site goes down.

the major problem with a dead torrent site is discoverability. if it's harder to find the torrent, fewer people will download it, the existing seeds will gradually go offline, and of course you can't download a torrent that you don't know exists. and while you could imagine a system of broadcasting metadata about a torrent (title, encoding etc.) in a DHT-like way but that would be so vulnerable to fakes and spam. maybe some kind of cryptographically signed 'this torrent is good' declaration is possible? I know certain torrent clients tout discovery features, but honestly I don't know how well they work. I'm sure there are projects that are way ahead of the game than me on this question.

but yeah anyway trying to browbeat people into not sharing links to pirate media is 1. futile, by the time you see it the cat is out of the bag 2. not a sustainable strategy for security. if you wanna lecture people, 'use a VPN and seed your torrents' is evergreen ;p

Disappeared for a bit but I'm still here, I just got overwhelmed and learned I should probably take this blog less seriously

I'm using the new year as an excuse to come back on here and try to not ditch my account for another 6 months-- I'm NOT good at posting stuff online to a crowd of more than like 5-20 followers, I originally wrote a huge long-winded draft describing all of my thoughts in great detail. It was too long. I guess all I want people to know is I'm somebody who's spent years making art that I knew nobody will ever see, so it's incredible and overwhelming to have thousands of eyes on my art all of a sudden? It's both the coolest thing and the scariest thing ever to me simultaneously, I'm by no means a Popular Artist but I went from virtually no interaction for years to suddenly tens of thousands of cumulative notes on my posts so it's huge for me. And I haven't adjusted super well to it, entirely due to my own shitty brain chemistry.

I don't want anyone to feel like I'm ignoring their messages or like I don't appreciate the fact they go out of their way to give me their thoughts/send me ideas, genuinely this is the most support I've *ever* had for my art and it's so so fucking cool. It's led me to create so much more than I thought possible! I used to run ask blogs for a couple very niche video game fandoms, and I prided myself on being able to draw full comics for EVERY ask I got, answer EVERY message and went into this blog assuming I could still do that. Um....safe to say I cannot....I have like 200+ asks and I think I drafted a dozen or more that I answered but felt my art was too low effort. I felt so bad I couldn't put maximum effort into everything, and I've been beating myself up over it to a point where *no* asks are getting answered, and this blog went from a really fun thing I actually woke up early just to check on, to something I wanted to avoid like the plague for the past week out of guilt. DUE TO NOBODY'S FAULT BUT MY OWN, everyone has been so chill when I've had to take breaks so idk why I feel the need to hold myself hostage.

So I'm gonna try and take it easier, give myself a break when my personal life goes horribly, close my ask box periodically if I feel overwhelmed, maybe hop on here like once or twice a day rather than compulsively refreshing every 5 minutes...I hope that makes things better. I realize I should probably just *do* that without announcing it, but I have no self discipline and unless I announce I'm gonna do something, it's not gonna fuckin happen lmao.

Anyway if you read this far, here's the first panel of a sequel comic I made to the christmas one I posted last time I was on here, this one is *very* representative of my mindset the last week and will hopefully not reflect how I feel now that I survived december. I know for a fact there's mentions I haven't gotten to check yet so I'm gonna do that after laying down for a bit, here's to a chill 2025 where my social anxiety doesn't eat me alive
