I do think Blazing Saddles handled its one depiction of native americans very poorly, and the full extent of its representation of chinese workers on the railroad is they were literally just there. not even one single speaking line. unclear if this is worse or better than the redface.

it's fucking phenomenal at lampooning antiblack racism though. extremely blatant, extremely funny satire, which is constantly and loudly saying "racism is the philosophy of the terminally stupid at best and morally depraved at worst, and we should all be pointing and laughing at them 24/7"

plus the main character is a heroic black man who has to navigate a whole lot of bullshit but is constantly smirking at the extraordinarily stupid racists and inviting the audience into the joke. the one heroic white character is a guy who was suicidally depressed until he met the protagonist and they just instantly became buds, and he's firmly in a supporting role the whole time and happy to be there. the protagonist saves the day with the help of his black friends from the railroad, and uses the position of power he was given to uplift not only those friends, but all the railroad workers of other minorities too, in an explicit show of solidarity.

anyone saying "Blazing Saddles is racist" had better be talking about its treatment of non-black minorities. it had better not be such superficial takes as "oh but they say the n-word all the time" or "they have nazis and the kkk in there!" because goddamn if that's the full extent of your critique I very seriously suggest you read up on media analysis. there is too much going over your head, you need to learn to recognize satire.

Did I make a whole new appearance with custom tattoos, new bandana, edited hair and beard and everything just for his birthday? Maybe, because I am one of those people that celebrate the heck out of fictional characters' birthdays xD And I will forever love that he's only 5 years older than me XD

But yes, I got one more thing planned with this appearance, because if it looks familiar, it's because I took a ton of inspo from the little pic on his netsite in game XD Only the neck cyberware is missing (but I have headcanons for that) and I'd like to try and see if I can give that to him somewhere down the line too to finalize the look :D But even so, this was fun, both from the modding and the VP stance! Making something a little more elaborate VP wise again, which I've really missed, and trying something new (editing vanilla hair) when it comes to modding! I mean, it is basically his 2077 hairstyle, but I tried making it a little bit messier xD I like how it turned out, even if it's not a huge difference, but the different color and the bandana help selling it I think uwu

I know it's been a while since I did anything here, much less made a post about an update to this great beast I've been working on for so many years.

But here, now, I am proud to announce that the beast has been slain. I have finally finished Achilles' Last Stand!! Its final chapters are freshly posted on AO3 and ready for your enjoyment. Thank you so much for anyone who has stuck through it with me on this long, long journey. We have finally made it. We have earned this rest.

*gestures in a broad sense* there's no way to prove without a shadow of a doubt how much the fandom had direct influence over veilguard (other than the obvious numbers behind the scenes metrics from past games but also the "elves deserved a win" comment that will haunt me forever as an example) without direct confirmation.

but like. the takes i've seen and remember over the past decade and beyond with bad and poor faith readings of the material, the sometimes outright refusal to engage with the worldbuilding on it's own merit, needing constant in-universe validation for "chantry/templars/slavery/bad thing bad" or it's otherwise meaningless at best or support of "bad thing bad" at worst, the lack of even attempting to read into a character's motivation or writing or writers intent with any sort of nuanced approach, and so on...

like again, i can't prove anything, but it does genuinely feel the end result of these takes and opinions would literally be veilguard lol.
