Fun facts about each of my OCs!

Aoife McPhearson: She was raised in a convent and can see spirits, much to her displeasure.

Achlei Noblebash: Had a tough time learning Common after being exiled from the cult she was raised in. She's also beaten Kurrl in the arena.

Cruiz Ironhide: Owes everything to her Guardian, who rescued her as an infant and raised her.

Dex: Avid skateboarder. What's skateboarding, you ask? She invented it! Also has a mouse companion named Harold. What do you mean, Harold's a rat? He's a mouse, stop being mean to him!

Dicholas Saint-Ailes: Polysexual and polyamorous. Hasn't had much opportunity to indulge since, shall we say... vacating his prior position.

Elaenor Easton: Ze is accustomed to working alone, and quietly resents being assigned to hir mercenary gigs in a group.

Ihuicatl Noblebash: Truth be told, he's bit of a coward; the only notable exception is when it comes to Achlei.

Jynn Idral: Member of the Triton Royal Guard, with mixed Triton and lizardfolk parentage.

Kaezarr Qileez: Son of an aarakocra diplomat. Lived alone for years after moving to the Material Plane; only ventured back into society when his cottage was set ablaze via unknown, magical means.

Kurrl: Gained the moniker "The Weaponless Warrior" in the arena. What did he do before then? Well, his memory's always been poor. Surely it can't have been that important.

Lucky: Far more of a coward than Ihuicatl. While working on a ship, she hid while the rest of the crew battled off a kraken. Her grandmother prophesized that calamity would befall her if she revealed her real name to anyone on her journey.

March Perral-Hallor: He adapted some songs he wrote during his pre-teen emo phase for use while travelling as a bard. If any of his family were to overhear and recognize them, he'd be endlessly mortified.

Nova Wysarŵ: Their favorite food is warm brie on a baguette. They will not, under any circumstances, remove the amulet they wear around their neck.

Ringer: No one's sure whether it's a kenku or a mute aarakocra. It was first found by Dex living in a bell tower, hence their name.

Second Chance: Despite growing up on an archipelago, he developed a phobia of water after a near-death experience in his childhood. He's braved the seas exactly once since, on a journey to the Sword Coast after his mother's death.

Shaemon Goldbeech: It made a living hawking ineffective potions before getting caught up with Aoife.

Solace Perral-Hallor: Tells anyone willing to listen on his travels about his husband and children. He's more proud of his family than anything else.

Wyndi Wilhaul: An acclaimed author, having grown up under the tutelage of the infamous, reclusive novelist Hagatha Christie.

Zola Perral-Hallor: She has an animal companion, a barn owl whom she simply calls Owl. Dreamed of going on adventures with her father Solace as a child, but has come to value her independence now that she's grown.

Zyrcain Perral-Hallor: Librarian in Lûné, his home and a commune faithful to Selûne. Practices wizardry as a hobby in his spare time.

I saw someone in the comments of my Tales of the TARDIS uploads bitching about how every companion ends up in a position of authority so here's me going through every televised companion, what occupation they ended up with after leaving the Doctor, and then analyzing whether there is an uncalled for number of authority positions in the list. As this is televised companions only I will be prioritizing the canon of televised stories. Here we go:

Ian Chesterton: Professor at the University of Cambridge (Death of the Doctor)

Barbara Wright: Professor at the University of Cambridge (Death of the Doctor)

Susan Foreman: Member of the Earth Council world government (Audio: An Earthly Child), though this is contradicted by some other stories

Vicki Pallister: Farmer (Tales of the TARDIS)

Steven Taylor: King (Tales of the TARDIS)

Katarina: N/A

Sara Kingdom: N/A

Polly Wright: Co-running an orphanage (Death of the Doctor)

Jamie McCrimmon: There are way too many sources for him and none of them definitive; the Tales of the TARDIS episode he appears in does not confirm what he got up to, but does decanonize certain other sources such as The World Shapers

Zoe Heriot: President, presumably of Earth (Tales of the TARDIS)

Liz Shaw: Multiple contradicting sources: includes but not limited to doing scientific research, teaching as a professor, or running P.R.o.B.e. (don't ask me what that is, I'm not deep enough down the rabbit hole yet)

Ryan Sinclair: Unknown, too recent, implied to have been studying to be a mechanic (Revolution of the Daleks)

Graham O'Brien: Presumably still a bus driver, also head of the companions group that never got an official name but we all agreed to call it Companions Anonymous (Power of the Doctor)

Dan Lewis: Presumably still unemployed and volunteering (Power of the Doctor)

Okay. Phew. That's all of them.

So, that's 41, not including K9 (there's too many K9s running around, sorry, also he's a robot dog.) Let's cut Katarina and Sara Kingdom, who I only really included to flex. That's 39. Okay, now let's cut Adric and Kamelion, who died before they could have a post-TARDIS career, as well as Grace and Chang Lee because c'mon, you need to actually travel in the TARDIS before you can have a post-TARDIS career. Now we're down to 35 companions.

Companions in a position of high authority, not just an expert in their field or whatever but with governmental authority are: Susan (choosing the specific EU canon where she's on the Earth Council), Steven, Zoe, Romana, Peri, and... oh wait, that's it! Just those five! And three of them are from sources that aren't the main show episodes! Considering that fiction usually follows interesting people rather than the average person, and both the Doctor and the TARDIS are picky about who they let on board, I'd say that 5/35 is a perfectly reasonable figure. Some people just want to complain.
