Random thing I just noticed: the Serpentine Generals have glowing eyes where the regular Serpentine in their tribes do not.

Also, on another note, Pythor does as well:

That, plus the tail and his possession of the Anacondrai staff, leads me to believe that back during the production and airing of Season 1, he may have been meant to be the sole General of the Anacondrai before Season 4 made it canon that the Anacondrai had not one, but multiple generals.

Serpentine!Jay Au

An au idea I've had in my mind ever since I got back into Ninjago. Basically an au where Jay was always serpentine. Specifically Venomari but he looks more unique because I said so(and also i was too lazy to follow the markings exactly cmon give me a break they r DETAILED). Tbf if he wasn't the master of Lightning he wouldn't be blue he would be the regular green they are. He's blue BECAUSE of his element

Anyway the au would follow Canon with some changes that I find more fun but In general Canon is followed

Jay would face many struggles due to being a snake in a world that hates them and much judgment not just from Wu (that man HATED snakes u can't tell me he wouldn't hold some hostility to Jay I'm sorry-) but from everyone else as well. He has many folk who think he's on the wrong side and/or he has some ulterior motives

Jay is just tryna help folk and show the world not all snakes are bad, but there r many who would rather he not be around at all

Thanks to Underwood for the base of his in show look she was perfect(listen I know she's not Venomari but they have nearly the exact same cobra base sooooo)

Au where instead of all the bs that happens in the show Lloyd is just a weird kid who likes snakes and gets a bunch of em as pets. Maybe a movie au? Idk I just wanted to figure out what types of snakes the serpentine would be.

Lloyd's first snake is Fangtom, a nice regular milksnake. Pretty common type of pet snake. I would have loved to find something venomous but there was just nothing that matched the colors so well and hey Lloyd has to start somewhere.

His second snake would be Skalidor, a pied morph of a rainbow boa (constrictor). Pretty, accurate colors, and a constrictor.

Third is Pythor, a lavender morph kings naked. I had a bit of a hard time with this one since purple isn't exactly a common color in snakes. This is the closest I could get, it looks a bit more like his post being eaten form but close enough.

Fourth is Slithraa, a Blue Racer. Again, blue isn't all that common in snakes, and there certainly aren't any blue snakes with hoods. I tried. This fella is pretty. I chose Slithraa, the first hypnobrai general instead of Skales because of the relationships in the show. Also I think it's funny that when I looked in the shopping section of Google for these guys I just got a bunch of toys and hypnobrai minifigures.

I changed up the lore section to be Phyllis's backstory as my au lore is still under construction 🚧 so feel free to read under the cut to see the updates!

Phyllis has gone through a bit of development since I last shared her lore here and is now a finalized character!

Personality:

Phyllis is very street smart and has the attitude to match...on the outside, finding it easy to taunt others and make sarcastic remarks.

HOWEVER, she is also very introverted.

Since both her parents died by the time she was seven, the tribes being sealed away shortly after, Phyllis was left all alone to fend for herself in the surface world, growing up in complete isolation. In response to that, she developed some...unique habits that come off almost creepy to others (like her bone collections and how her home defenses are literal corpses) and is incapable of socializing properly.

So while she loves to throw out witty comebacks and sarcastic remarks in the moment, she can get pretty socially awkward and even dismissive/mean to those she has prolonged contact with. She just isn't used to being around people for long and is used to hiding away from them.

Despite this, if someone is persistent enough and SOMEHOW earns her trust, Phyllis will turn out to be pretty loyal. This is a difficult task to achieve but if done she is dedicated to protecting you, even becoming overprotective because she's terrified of loosing another person she cares about.

So ye! In summary, Phyllis sarcastic, witty and mayyybe even a little insane, all with a hint of social awkwardness.

Lore:

Now in terms of lore aspects, Phyllis is a character that i have written straight into the Ninjago timeline, meaning key points of her life actually line up with the show. For example the is born during the first serpentine war and is a young adult(serpentine age slower) by the time the serpentine are released, her true adventures beginning with the start of this au. These adventures are also affected realtime by events happening in the show, such as the fall of Ninjago city in seasons 8 and 9, or the great flood in season 15.

So Phyllis is the daughter of Victor Vervain, a venomari archer, and Amelia Vespertine, a fangpyre Nobel woman.

The two had fled from the war, living on the run as Victor was deemed a traitor and Amelia now being hunted down. Victor left for moral reasons, having frown up near a human village and even befriended some as he grew up. He felt that it was wrong to be fighting against them, especially when the armies would raid innocent villages. The fact that no one would tell him why they were fighting in the first place only made Victor feel worse, and he inevitably left. Amelia left for similar reasons, since even as a higher up she could not justify the war.

Because they were on the run, Phyllis was raised very nomadic and most often within nature. Constant moving became the norm for her, but she didn't mind. Even with the lack of contact with other serpentine, the only consistency Phyllis seemed to need was her parents.

Having said that, you better believe they get separated.

Amelia is killed when Phyllis is 5. She died while defending Phyllis and Victor, giving them time to escape.

Victor actually ends up dying to an elemental master, the master of ice. He and Phyllis are out on a hunting trip, hunting deer.

Victor armed with his iconic bow 🏹 is aiming for a stag when a patrol of elemental masters are patrolling nearby. The master of ice catches sight of the venomari archer with arrow drawn and skewers him on sight with an icicle, killing him almost instantly.

This occurs literally RIGHT before, or even during when, the serpentine are sealed away, so from this point on that Phyllis is truly on her own and won't see another serpentine until she's an adult.

From this point until the serpentine are released from their tombs, Phyllis grows up in isolation. She is still quite nomadic, living in more dense, woodsy areas as often as possible.

She even learns dark magic, having found an old spell book deep in the woods. She teaches herself different forms of magic, takin to necromancy quite quickly.

She is practically a cryptid at this point, with only rare sightings... Especially since as a hybrid with her magically abilities, she wouldn't be identifiable as a commonly known serpentine

Despite this though, there are occasions where she will make deals or take on jobs with others to get by. This practice becomes at lot more common when the Serpentine are released and become a more frequent sight.

The AU:

The au begins a good while after the serpentine are released, at the earliest after season four, when the Serpentine and humans are on relatively good terms.

You'll be seeing a lot more of them in Ninjago city, even a few in the police force! (I will elaborate of these characters in a future post!)

Because of Phyllis's paranormal connections, I do like the idea of this occurring in Ninjago city during season five, whilst the ninja are busy with Morro

Maybe a team of ragtag heroes hear of a mysterious masked figure who stole a powerful artifact. As they follow clues to track down this unknown villain, the find themselves in over their heads when they face her head on- their elemental powers rendered almost useless and the masked figure escaping.

When our heroes find out there are four of these artifacts in the series, a race to the second begins, both parties discovering more about the mysterious villain's plan along the way, and the true mastermind behind it all.

I won't spoil much last this point, as there are many elements I feel could be better portrayed in comic or written format! So that's all for now and feel free to ask questions about the au or characters, as I have many more to share and plenty of fun facts n details!

Rating early seasons' villains for literally no reason. (This is just my opinion, it's okay if you disagree)

1) Garmadon: do i need an explanation here?

2) Morro: broken soul... He was relatable at some point. I think he deserved better.

3) Nadakhan: I know you hate him, i hate him too. He was very powerful, and he made people hate him, so that's why i think he was a good pure evil villain.

4) Chen: I don't know if i want to punch him or laugh with his silliness sometimes. Does that make sense? Anyway, I think he did great as a villain.

5) Pythor: How many times have we see this guy? Somehow he just survives all the time! He never gives up!

6) Crux and Acronix: I don't know why but i expected more. They had the potential and they didn't use it. They could have been better.

7) Overlord: Just no. I expected soooo much more from him in early seasons.

- Don't ask me "where are the other serpentine?" Or "where's Clouse?", "where's Nadakhan's crew?", "Where's the crimson snakes?", "where's the nindroids?".

I didn't include them because they weren't the major villain.

Also about season 3: i didn't include Cryptor because i consider Pythor and especially Overlord as the main villains of the season. If i had to include him, i think he'd go under Pythor.

INTRODUCING:

The Elemental Serpentine AU!

In this AU, each Serpentine species is getting reworked! They're all getting new, more varied designs, and I'll be making a lot of new species to align with each elemental power in the show!

I'm also reworking much of the lore surrounding Serpentine, since what we are given is inconsistent, and quite vague.

As of now, I have new designs for each of the Serpentine species that appear in the show! Designs for new species to go with the missing elements will come later.

Please note that this AU is a work in progress; the designs I have here are subject to change!

GENERAL AU STUFF

I decided that I want all of my Serpentine to have tails, instead of just the generals. If they have legs, they end up looking more like anthro lizards than anthro snakes. I'll let them keep the arms, though.

In the show, the Serpentine are covered in intricate details. As nice as these details are, they make it difficult to draw Serpentine in 2D. So, more for my own sanity than anything else, the patterns are getting toned down.

CONSTRICTAI - EARTH

I genuinely hate a lot of aspects of the canon design for the Constrictai. Their non-existent necks and random spikes make them look more like horrible little dinosaur gnomes than snakes. For my design, I let them keep the spikes, but moved them so they weren't sticking straight up out of their head. Most important of all, I gave them necks.

Inspiration: Boa constrictor

HYPNOBRAI - MIND

In spite of how it may seem, I did not remove this species' hood! Real snakes with hoods only 'hood up' as a threat display. I decided to incorporate this into my AU. It's not visible here, but my design has false eyes on the back of the hood. I noticed that the original design has snakes in the patterns, so I've incorporated that in a few places. I think I may have gone too far with simplifying their design, so we'll see how it changes as I continue to iterate.

Inspiration: Spectacled cobra

VENOMARI - POISON

This one has received some of the biggest changes in the AU. I felt the Venomari's extra eyes looked quite out of place in my new lineup, since it would be the only one out of a now larger number of species to have four eyes, so I lowered the number to two. I don't like the original colour scheme all that much, so I decided to take a page out of the poison dart frog book and make them bright and varied in colour. They can have a variety of colours and patterns. Like the Hypnobrai, the Venomari have a hood that can't be seen in this image.

Inspiration: African bush viper

FANGPYRE - FORM

I changed the shape of the head pretty drastically, but the colours are the same, even if the pattern is different.

Inspiration: Coral snake

ANACONDRAI - LIGHT

The colour-changing ability of the Anacondrai is so underutilized that I literally forgot about it until I started rewatching the show with my brother, so I've decided to make it more prominent. In this AU, Anacondrai change colour as a method of communication and expression. They can also change their colour to disappear, just like in the show.

VERMILLION - FUSION

Each of the Serpentine are born or hatched without visible limbs, appearing as ordinary snakes to the untrained eye. While most species undergo a metamorphosis at a young age, emerging with two limbs, Vermillion do not, and remain in a larval state for their entire lives.

Inspiration: Garter snake, axolotl

MAARAY - WATER

According to the fan wiki for Ninjago, these guys are supposed to be eels, but I thought they were Serpentine when watching the show, and they have the same head model as some of Aspheera's lackeys, so I've made the executive decision to make them Serpentine in this AU.

So in "Darkness Shall Rise", Venomari venom does not affect Zane.

Yet in "All of Nothing", it did, forcing Zane to resort to using the Falcon as his eyes.

The last of the notable Serpentine members of this group is none other than Attor, a Venomari spy/scout, basically a rogue.

Before joining the Rebellion he was planning to actually to be a warrior by climbing the ranks, however that changed when a fight went wrong and he spilled blood of another warrior, making some hatchlings lose their parent.

Now he’s more of a spy/scout for the Serpentine Rebellion, often reporting back from the inside, and picking up info from the meetings in Ouroboros, which is when he passed on the information that Pythor seeks to release the Devourer and that the Anacondrai had imprisoned a Master of Wind who was “gifted” the ability to see events in the future by the Anacondrai alchemists in their tomb. (Like I said, in my AU the Serpentine War dragged on a bit and it would be ten years before the pilot episodes/season one. The HoT would be one of the battles happening during it, but let's put the time siblings on the back burner for a hot minute and let me cook.)

When he joins the Serpentine Rebellion, Knucker would be taking the Venomari teen under his wing, training him, while Melusine would comfort and teach him the herbs and other medicines. (The two may as well have adopted him.) This would eventually lead him to make poison with some herbs and he would learn how to refine the Serpentine venom from liquid to a gas.

My little Venomari boy is about to commit war crimes with his substitute parents. ​

This is an old OC of mine Named Doku he's a venomari who fights in the slither pit and meets up with a woman named Maddy. and they eventually go on adventures together.
