“Has anyone seen Lloyd come out of his room yet?” Kai asked as he finished styling his hair, walking into the kitchen where his siblings were eating breakfast. 

Call him a drama queen all you want, but he literally could not do a single thing unless his hair was completely styled for the morning.  

Which really just consisted of him putting ungodly amounts of hair gel on it to make it look spiky but shh…you didn’t hear that from me. 

“Nope.” Jay replied nonchalantly as he stuffed his face with the pancakes Zane happily cooked. Cole gagged internally at his brother’s absolutely grotesque way of eating, rolling his eyes and turning his attention to the real and ideal breakfast meal…

…Chocolate cake.

The Earth ninja snarfed down the delectable 'dessert' (you can eat cake anytime and anywhere— so is it really a dessert?) down his throat, making sure to leave no crumb left on the plate. 

Kai shivered at the two ninja’s…unique way of eating, sitting down next to Nya as he rested his cheek on his palm. “It’s…like, eight in the morning. Lloyd would usually be up by now...”

“It is currently nine in the morning.” Zane calmly corrected.

“My point still stands nonetheless!” The hothead shouted. 

“Maybe he just wants to sleep in.” The Lightning ninja suggested with a full mouth, “Remember how late we used to sleep in when we just started training to become ninja(s)?”

Nya huffed out a laugh, sipping her tea quietly, “Me and Master Wu would have to pour water on all of you guys just to wake you up…”

“Good times...” The freckled face teen remarked as he chugged his orange juice. The fire ninja cringed at the action, looking at his slightly older brother in complete disgust, “You are going to actually chokeif you keep eating and drinking like that...” The red cladded ninja commented. 

Jay rolled his eyes at the other’s remark, “Oh pleeease. The universe loves me way too much for that.”

“What universe are you referring to? Because it definitely isn’t this one.” The Water ninja giggled.

“Yeah…that sounded waaaaaay better in my head...” The Lightning ninja giggled back.

Cole and Kai shared an amused knowing glance at each other as they saw the two blue cladded ninja’s laughing with each other. The Ice ninja finished making the remainder of the pancakes, putting them onto a plate and putting said plate in the middle of the table.

“If you’re concerned about Lloyd’s irregular time in bed, perhaps you should maybe check up on him?” Zane suggested as he sat down at the table, giving the red themed ninja a soft smile. 

“Yeah…you’re right, man. I’ll be right back.” The spiky brown haired teen said as he got up from the table, shaking his head fondly as he heard a random fight between Cole and Jay start to break out. 

Now…you’re probably wondering why Kai is so worried in the first place since he isn’t known to be a huge worrywart. If he was being completely honest, that was usually Zane and Cole’s job. But you did not hear that from him. 

If there was anything Kai was best known for, it was probably being awesome, hot, brave…aaaand we’re getting off track here. But you see his point. 

It’s been a couple months since the whole…possession thing. And let’s just say the awesome, hot, and brave Kai everyone once knew and loved was on edge. 

If he could bring Morro back to life, kill him, bring him back to life and kill him again about a million times…he would definitely do so in a heartbeat. 

And in all honesty? During the months of recovery…it was honestly heartbreaking to let what happened settle in fully. Some parts of Kai still didn’t want to believe the events that had happened within the past few months had…well, happened. 

His little brother was possessed, forced to fight his family and friends, forced to fight the fucking fucker that possessed him and many more things Kai doesn’t even want to think about right now.

So…yeah. The red themed ninja was rightfully worried for his little brother. 

The amber eyed teen ran an anxious hand through his hair, exhaling loudly as he knocked on the closed door belonging to bedroom him and his sibling’s shared. 

No answer.

The red cladded teen knocked a tad bit louder the second time around but there was still no answer heard from the other side. The brown haired ninja opened the door slightly, peeking and looking around to find his little brother…fast asleep on his bed.

Kai snorted at the sight, his worry washing away as he sat on the edge of the youngest ninja’s bed, ruffling his hair ever so slightly, “Lloyd~! Wakey wakey, little bro!”

The blonde slowly turned his head to his big brother, his face morphing to any icy glare as the brunette tried to stifle a giggle at the sight. “Why do I have to see your face this early in the morning…?” Lloyd grumbled.

“Hey!” The amber eyed ninja squawked, “I’ll have you know seeing this bag of handsomeness any day is a blessing. You should feel lucky you get to see this beauty constantly.” 

“Ughhhh…why couldn’t you have come with Nya or something? That would’ve at least evened out the ugliness.” The youngest said, his small tired smile widening as he saw his brother’s clearly offended expression.  

“Okay…wow. My bad for coming in to check up on you.” The brunette exclaimed as he rested the back of his head on the Green ninja’s back. The hazel eyed teen groaned at the action, sinking deeper into his pillow.

“Dude, come onnnnn. Get out of bed, it’s time to start the day.“ The eldest said. 

“But it’s so earlyyyyyy…” The younger whined, sinking deeper into the blankets and stuffed animals he had on his bed. 

Kai raised a brow, “It’s nine in the morning.”

“Yeah! That’s early. Now let me get my oh-so precious beauty sleep. I need to recover from seeing your hideousness.” The blonde said sassily as he started to drift back to sleep.

Kai quickly shook his brother awake, not letting the kid in green pajamas visit the land of dreams quite yet. “Lloydie…I have no problem with you sleeping in, but at least get some breakfast in your system first.”

“Fuck breakfast.” The Green ninja murmured. 

The Fire ninja audibly gasped at the curse, trying his absolute best to not cry from proudness. 

That little green ball of snot was starting to act like him more and more everyday! 

…And Kai doesn’t know whether he should be happy about that or concerned for the near future.

“Wha— young man! We do not use such vulgar language in this household!” The hothead scolded, (even though he was very much proud).

“Who taught you to speak like that anyway?!” The elder huffed.

“Uh…you?” The youngest said blatantly.

“…I did?”

“Uh…yeah?”

The brunette rolled his eyes, crossing his arms, “Oh, whatever. Just don’t repeat those kinds of words in front of your Uncle, got it?”

“Mhm.” The younger said uninterested.

“But anyways…I want you to get up and eat. Come on. Up and at 'em.” The spiky haired teen said as he tried to lift the other up from the bed, but the younger stayed exactly where he was.

Kai groaned, getting up from the bed as he glared at his brother, “You can be really fucking stubborn when you want to be, y'know that?” 

“I get it from you.” Lloyd deadpanned as he closed his eyes to go back to sleep.

“That’s why it’s so annoying.” The spiky haired teen huffed, his eyes slightly widening as an idea popped into his head.

A very mean idea but an idea nonetheless. 

“Lloydie-loo~!!” The elder sang in a sweet-song voice…a voice the youngest knew far too well. The Green ninja opened his eyes once more, looking at the other skeptically. “What is it now?” The blondie asked. 

“If you don’t get up…I think a certain someone is gonna come and get you~!” The brunette grinned, “Do you know who that special certain someone is~?” 

The hazel eyed teen sighed at the question, personally not in the mood for guessing games but doing it for the sake of entertaining his older brother, “Uh…pfft— I dunno…? Zane maybe?”

“As much as I’d love to see Zane ramble about how having breakfast is a very vital start to your day…that’s not who I’m talking about.” The amber eyed teen snickered. 

“Master Wu?” Lloyd tried again.

“Nope!” The spiky haired ninja grinned, adding extra flair to the simple word by adding a pop sound to the 'p' at the end. 

“Alright…I’m at a loss. Who is coming to quote on quote 'get me?'” The blonde teenager asked, doing quotation marks with his fingers. The red themed ninja grinned evilly at the oh-so innocent question his brother asked, sitting on the edge of the bed again. “I’ll give you a hint. He’s a monster and his first name rhymes with pickle.”

The Green ninja’s eyes widened, “…you wouldn’t dare.”

“Wanna bet~?” Kai chuckled as he inched closer to the smaller teenager, wiggling his fingers teasingly. 

“Ihi’m gohonna kick yohou if you gehet ahany closer! I-Ihi’m seheherious!!!” The blondie giggly threatened which Kai couldn’t help but coo to. The fire ninja knew damn well his baby brother was a literal god and could beat him and the rest of their siblings up any day. But if you removed that true fact from the equation, the Green ninja was just a little kid at heart.

A very ticklish little kid at heart. 

The smaller teen internally screamed as his brother was inching closer and closer towards him. Without thinking, the blonde kicked his foot towards the other’s face, expecting a screech of pain from his big brother but was only met with a low and deeply terrifying chuckle.

The elder had effortlessly grabbed the kid’s ankle, smugly looking at his little brother, “Awe…is this for me~?” 

“N-Noho! Noho ihit’s not! Gihive meehee my foot b-bahack!” Lloyd giggled, trying to pull his ankle out of the other’s grip.

“But you literally just handed it to me!” The hothead snorted, trying his absolute best not to gush about his baby brother’s complete and utter adorableness. 

The older made dramatic groaning noises, holding the top of his head with his free hand, “Oh no! L-Lloyd! I think…I think I’m transforming…!” 

“N-Noho you’re not, yohohou bihig dork!”

“Yuh huh. Same thing happened last week.” Kai stated, doing weird and unusual cult-like movements with his head before landing his eyes on his brother; soft (yet petrified) hazel eyes meeting a determined amber. 

The younger broke eye contact, lying back on his bed as he covered his face with a pillow, giggling in anticipation. 

The figure in front of him that he just made eye contact with was not the big brother he knew and loved…

That was The Tickle Monster. And that fiend would not stop until he got what he wanted.

“Awe~! Are you hiding your face from me~?” The brunette grinned, using one finger to glide against Lloyd’s foot. The blonde squeaked at the mean yet soft sensation, his grip on the pillow tighteneing as he refused to laugh. 

He was not going to give The Tick— I mean…Kai that satisfaction. 

No way, José.

The fire ninja sat on the bed, pretending to hum in thought before he scratched his fingers alongside the other’s med arch. The youngest ninja let out a squawk, his plan about not laughing literally flyingout the window as loud squeals and giggles poured out of his mouth. 

“Oho~! That’s a good spot, huh~?” The spiky haired teen teased, clearly amused that his brother was able to cave in so soon. 

“N-NohOHO! N-NAHAT aha goohOOD spahat!” The hazel eyed ninja denied, shaking his head as he desperately tried to retreive his foot. “Ohhhh no you don’t, mister. You gave this to me, remember? No take-backsies.” 

“IHI DIHID nahAT gihive myhy foHOOT toohoo YOHOU!” Lloyd squealed, trying to kick his big brother with his free leg. Kai tutted in disaproval, releasing the green pajama wearing kid’s foot before sitting on his ankles, scribbling all over both of his feet. “Fine. Is this better?” The elder asked inocently.

The younger teen squealed, “Nahat beHEHETTER AHAT AHAHAHALL!!” 

“Not better~? Not even a liiiiittle bit~?” The other asked as he tickled underneath the blondie’s toes. “EEEHEE— squeak! NAHAHA! NAHAT BETTER!!”

The taller teenager chuckled, getting up from the kid’s ankles before sitting in his waist, digging his hands into Lloyd’s underarms. The hazel eyed ninja immediately shot his arms down at the action, hugging his middles and shaking his head back and forth whilst cackling like a mad man. 

In a result to all the movement, the pillow the blonde was once holding fell down to the floor, revealing the face of a very giggly Green ninja. 

“Awe~! There you are~! Hi, baby bro~!” The Fire ninja cooed, his smug smirk widening because he knew the smaller ninja well enough to know that he wanted to make a smart remark to Kai’s comment sooooo bad. 

But due to the current circumstances, the blonde knew it was in his best interest not to.

“K-KAHAHAI!” Lloyd whined through his laughs.

“Kai? Who’s Kai?” The spiky haired teen asked, turning his head to look around the room in search for this…'Kai' indivual. “IHIHAT’S— squeak! GEHET— squeak— oHO myhy gahASH! KAHAI!!!” Lloyd howled, laughing harder as the tickles in his underarms switched from scribbles to kneading in a matter of seconds. 

“I don’t know who this awesome, hot and brave Kai person is…but The Tickle Monster will make sure to tell you if he sees him.” The red cladded ninja mused. 

The green cladded teen squealed loudly, squirming as best he could in the position he was in as Kai just chuckled fondly at the action displaying below him, “Awe…is someone a squirmy wormy~? Does it tickle, Lloydie~?” 

“S-STAHAP!” 

“Stop~? Why should I stop, hm? Is it because you’re flustered~? Or is it because it tickles so much~? Or is it a combination of the two?” The brunette smugly teased, laughing softly as he saw a small blush appear on the other’s face. “JUhust geHET squeak YOHOUR hahands AHA— squeal OHOUT!” 

“But I caaaan’t!” Kai dramatically whined, “Your keeping them trapped with your big, stroooong muscles. Looks like those work-outs with Cole really came to use, huh?” Lloyd turned to his side, curling in on himself and letting out a soft snort as he continued to laugh to his hearts content. 

Kai cooed at him for probably the millionth time in an hour, trying not to tear up at the sight.

Why did his brother have to be so damn cute?!

“Why are you turning away from The Tickle Monster, Lloydie~?”

“STAHAP CAHAHALLING YOURSELF TH-THAHAT!”

“Stop calling myself what, Greenie? I’m just stating a fact.” Kai mused, poking his younger brother’s sides repetitively, “I like stating facts. For example…here’s a fact! You’re veryyyyy tickle tickle ticklish.” The brunette smiled as he gave the blonde a small kiss on the forehead (A platonic kiss. A PLATONIC KISS), ceasing his tickle attack for just a moment or two. 

The hazel eyed teen let out a small squeal at the kiss, crossing his arms as he looked to the side, “Cahan squeak yohou gehehet squeak ohoff squeal meehee now?”

The red themed ninja only shook his head, crossing his arms disapprovingly, “But Lloydie-loo! I’m not done quite yet! The Tickle Monster is hungry…!” He whined. 

The younger raised a brow in confusion, “Dihidn’t you juhust cohome frohom breakfast?”  

“But I’m not hungry for breakfast…I’m hungry for dessert~!” The taller teen grinned, gently grabbing the youngest ninja’s wrists and pinning them on top of his head. The blondie’s eyed widened as big as saucers, twisting and turning like a Fun-sized Twizzler. 

“Kahai— KaHAHAI!! NONONOHO— squeak DON’T YOU DAHARE IHI WIHILL EHEND YOHOU!!!” Lloyd screamed, immediatley trying to get off of the bed. 

As the younger kicked, protested and yelled, he soon came to realize he was trying to bargain with Kai. 

Once the Fire ninja had his mind set on something…it would literally take God himself to make him change his mind.

The amber eyed teen blew the most freaking ticklish raspberry Lloyd had ever felt right on his stomach, making the youngest scream in laughter, happy tears blurring his vision as he weakly squirmed in the hold.

“Ommmm nom nom nom~!” Kai teased as he switched from raspberries to nibbles.

“STAHAP! STAHAP squeak STAHAP STAHAP!!! YOHOU FREHEAKING— hic NAHAH!! NOHO hic NOHOISES!!” The Green ninja cackled loudly, his legs practically bouncing on the mattress due to how much he was squirming. The younger teen was absolutely losing his mind, just being able to lay on his bed and laugh his little heart out.

“But The Tickle Monster is hungry, little bro! And your tummy seems like an excellent feast, don’t you think?”

“NOHO— hic NAHAHA!! I CAHAN’T! I CAHAN’T squeal KAHAI squeal STAHAP IHIT!!” The blondie cried.

“You can’t what~?” The elder snorted in amusement.

“If you can’t handle being tickled, you shouldn’t be so damn ticklish then.” The spiky haired ninja said simply, blowing another raspberry where Lloyd’s side met his lowest rib.

The smallest ninja threw his head back, his squeals, squeaks and laughs being so loud and high-pitched it could shatter actual glass. “AAAHAHA— squeak O-OKAHAHAY! OKAHAHAHAY! AHALRIGHT! IHI’M squeal UHUP! IHI’M hic UHUP!!!”

“So…does that mean you’re gonna come eat breakfast with me and the rest of our siblings~?” Kai giggled.

“Y-YAHA— snrk YEHES YEHEHES hic JUHUST squeal PLEHEASE!!!” The hazel eyed ninja squawked. The red cladded ninja stopped his tickling onslaught targeted towards his brother, lying down next to him as the blonde caught his breath.

The Green ninja wiped happy tears from his eyes due to being in complete hysterics not even a couple seconds ago. The smaller teen attempted glaring at his older brother, but found it so fucking hard to do due (haha do due…) to the fact Kai was smiling at him so…fondly.  

“Yohou’re ohohofficially thehe wohorst bihig brohother ever…” Lloyd grumbled as be crossed his arms playfully over his chest. 

“Psh— you know you love me, bud.” The brunette smiled, getting off of the bed as the blonde followed. “Alright. Come on, you little shit...let’s get some breakfast down your throat before the others make a search party for us.” Kai chuckled, ruffling Lloyd’s hair as the younger giggled, both of them walking out of the shared bedroom and into the hallway, towards the kitchen.

a/n: hii omg i HATE finals and i haven’t been writing but then i thought ykw i need to feel some of this holiday spirit so i cooked this up instead of doing hw…hope you enjoy!! :))

synopsis- winter is your favorite time of year, but the lack of snow has started to put a damper on your mood. when one day you finally wake up to snow on the ground, you and the ninja get right down to business with your holiday traditions

Ninjago Christmas was like no other. It was as simple as that.

Summers were fun, Spring okay, Fall was beautiful, but Winter. Winter held a special place in your heart.

You woke every November morning in hopes to see snow on the ground. Your boyfriend would grumble and groan as you woke up early when there was no need to peek through his curtains.

Alas, there was nothing. You’d huff and flop back down on the bed where Cole would roll over and sling an arm around your torso where your deflated mood about the lack of snow would fade away.

However, today was finally the day. After two whole days into December with no snow, you had started to lose hope.

Maybe it won't snow this year.

Finally, you let yourself sleep in on the third day of December. You slept in long enough that Cole had woken up before you.

You vaguely registered him slipping out of bed quietly and padding across the wooden floors of his room to brush his teeth. You left him to his morning routine and buried your face in the pillows that still smelled of his shampoo before attempting to fall into a deep slumber once more.

Just as you were finally about to drift off, a large hand on your shoulder was shaking you awake softly.

“What is it?” You gumbled, still half asleep.

“Look out the window,” Cole said as he leant down to place a peck on your temple.

“Hmm?” You sat up, smoothing your bed head out of your face and rubbing the sleep from your eyes before you placed your feet on the cold hard wood floors.

Eyes still blurry with sleep, you took your time stretching and standing up before moving the curtains away from Cole’s windows just an inch. That inch was all it took to fully wake you up.

A wide smile made its way to your face at the sight of the fresh blanket of what that set itself over the trees and ground surrounding the monastery.

You spun around quickly, facing a smirking Cole.

“We have to go outside,” you said. “Have to.”

“Alright,” Cole chuckled. “Just put some warm clothes on, please?”

You nodded enthusiastically before darting out of his room. Your hand was on the handle of your room when you decided you wanted to share the news with all your friends.

Even though it was a weekend, and not overly early, mostly everybody but Zane would still be in bed. Not anymore.

Skipping through the halls you banged on everyone’s doors informing them of the weather. You didn’t stop your pestering until someone on the other side of the door yelled at you.

Nya was the only one who actually opened the door with your shared enthusiasm. Only when you successfully woke everyone up did you return to your room in search of a warm jacket and pants.

When you were dressed in the appropriate attire, you found Cole in the kitchen across from Zane, sipping a cup of tea. He wore a pair of black cargo pants, and a puffer jacket above a hoodie. You watched silently form the doorway as your boyfriend doom scrolled on his phone and smiled occasionally on the screen.

“I can feel you,” Cole spoke around the rim of his mug, not looking up from his phone.

You rolled your eyes. Curse his seismic senses.

“Can’t you let me ogle in peace?” You asked as you took a seat next to him where he slid another cup of tea towards you.

Always considerate.

He shrugged his shoulders with a smirk, “Drink your tea, it’ll keep you warm.”

“Okay, Dad,” you joked.

Cole slid his gaze to you with an amused/unimpressed look.

“Morning, Zane,” you turned your attention to the Master of Ice instead as you sipped your tea. As it went down your throat, you felt every nerve and tendril grow comfortingly warm.

“Good morning,” Zane returned your greeting with a polite smile, a book in his hand. Unlike Cole, Zane wore only a white long sleeve shirt and jeans. Being the Master of Ice, and a robot, he didn’t need many winter clothes.

The three of you chatted comfortably until the rest of the team filed into the dining room, all adorning their winter gear. Though it snowed, the weather didn’t get unbearably cold–your personal favorite kind of weather.

The dining room’s volume rose steadily as everyone helped themselves to a quick breakfast.

Nya slid into the seat next to you as Cole and Kai began to bicker over who would get the last piece of bacon.

“So,” Nya said, excitement brewing in her stormy gray eyes. “What’s the plan today?”

“Well for starters, we have to keep up our tradition.”

Your friend fervently nodded in agreement.

It was a tradition among the team to have at least one snowball fight, and get into teams and see who could make the best snow sculpture. In your younger years, you started with snowmen, but as you all gradually got older and more experienced, so did your creations.

You, Lloyd, and Kai managed to make a shockingly good dragon out of snow one year.

“After that I want to go walk around the city,” you said, draining the rest of your tea. “The lights are always prettier both at night and when it’s snowing.”

“Perfect!” Nya smiled brightly, before her face hardened as Cole and Kai continued to argue back and forth.

The Master of Water reached across the table, swiped the slice of bacon, and split it into two equal halves before she handed one half to each boy.

The two stared at her stunned, before shrugging and consuming their piece in one bit.

“Children,” Nya muttered with a shake of her head.

You giggled quietly at her words.

After breakfast, you and Nya managed to wrangle the five boys out of the house and outside.

The cold nipped at your nose and you could see each puff of air coming out of your mouth.

You smiled and looked up at the soft flurry of snow still raining down from the sky.

Then, you felt a pair of warm hands reach under your jacket and come to rest on your hips. Cole’s chest pressed up against your back, hiding you from the cold as Jay spread his arms and fell backwards onto the fresh powder.

You laid your own hands atop Cole’s, his chin coming to rest on your shoulder as the two of you watched as Jay and Lloyd made snow angels, and Nya laughed at the steam emanating from her brother.

Kai always produced a high natural body temperature, making the snow that came in contact with his body melt into steam faster than anyone else.

Zane, unlike the rest of you, was able to walk above the snow like he weighed nothing while your own boots sunk through the snow and onto the forest ground.

Cole placed a hot kiss on the base of your neck. “Happy?”

“Very.” You leaned further black onto your boyfriend, savoring the cloudy sky and fresh cold.

The two of you were so wrapped up in each other that you didn’t see the snowball Jay aimed at you until it was too late.

You shrieked and jumped out of Cole’s hold as a snowball hit his chest and broke apart on your clavicle, running down the inside of your jacket.

“Are you two going to cuddle all day or can we get started so I can win again?” Jay asked from his crouched position, already forming another ball.

“You’re so dead, Walker,” you smirked before scooping up a large pile of snow quickly and throwing it in his direction.

As usual–your aim was impeccable as it hid the copper haired boy straight on the top of the head.

The ninja laughed as Jay jumped up and attempted to ruffle the snow out of his hair.

After that, all hell broke loose. Usually, you’d spend the first ten minutes making an alliance, and building a wall to hide behind before you actually began the brawl. This year, you allied yourself with Cole, which you normally don’t do, but you had a plan this year.

“Okay!” Lloyd called from behind his fort with Kai. “We all know the rules, you get four lives, last person standing wins.”

“We got this,” you nodded to Cole who really had to crouch down to be completely shielded by the wall.

“We should have made this higher, this position is hurting my legs,” he winced.

You continued making a stash of ammo before muttering, “Maybe if you weren’t so damn tall.”

The words were barely out of your mouth before Cole’s fingers dug into your sides, causing you to shriek with laughter and fall onto him, the two of you now sitting in the snow behind your wall.

“Oi!” Kai yelled. “As of right now you guys aren’t dating anymore–you’re teammates!”

Cole pulled his hands away, his cheeks flushed red from both the cold and laughing at you.

You playfully glared at him and tossed a handful of snow at him in retaliation.

Peeking your head out from over your wall you yelled, “Sorry! We’re ready.”

Zane began the countdown, and suddenly snowballs were flying everywhere. They came from both your left and right.

The snowballs and sound of laughter continued, and sometimes you were laughing too hard to even throw a snowball. Especially when Nya got Kai in the face and he fell back trying to get the snowflakes out of his eye before they steamed away.

Eventually, you and Cole were both down to one life, breathing hard as Lloyd was the last one standing.

“Okay, here’s the plan,” Cole whispered. “I’ll go up first, you bait him out, then you sneak from behind me and get him.”

You nodded, reaching for a snowball, your gloves thoroughly soaked and frozen, but you couldn’t find it in yourself to care.

As expected, as soon as Cole’s black hair breached the wall, Lloyd also popped up and wound his arm back to throw a snowball at Cole.

You were quicker. Before Lloyd even had the chance to release the snow, snow was already melting on the center of his chest, and the blond boy stared at you open mouthed while the rest of your friends howled with laughter.

Cole cheered as he finally stood up to full height, chirping his friends and boasting playfully.

Your eye caught Nya’s, and the two of you shared a knowing glance before you carefully reached for the last snowball.

You wound your arm back, and threw it at your boyfriend’s back.

Cole’s words, laughter and joking came to an abrupt stop as he spun around to face you, mouth agape with disbelief.

“Only one can remain,” you smirked innocently as the boys all bent over howling, and Jay braced both his hands on your boyfriend’s shoulders.

“You traitor!” Cole gasped before lunging towards you.

You yelped and turned around as Cole chased after you. The smile never left your face as Cole chased you around a tree, your friends laughing the whole way, throwing snowballs at the two of you even if the game was over.

The seven of you calmed down in the snow, each having made a snow angel in the form of a circle before you moved onto the next activity.

You teamed yourself with Jay and Cole this year as Zane, Kai, Nya, and Lloyd were your oppositions.

Jay took charge easily, drawing a mini sketch in the snow of the structure you were going to build.

This time, the three of you were going for a sculpture of the Bounty. Afterall, the three of you knew the ship like the back of your hands. To keep it more fun, Zane threw up a wall of ice between the two teams. Each team had around three and a half hours to make the sculpture.

Lucky for you, Jay, and Cole, you only had to redo a section of the hull after a little mishap, but once the three hours were over, the ice wall came down.

Zane, Nya, Lloyd, and Kai went for a sculpture of Nya’s old Samurai X suit.

You admired their work immensely, but you still felt as if your team had one. Lloyd ran back inside to fetch Misako and the Sensei’s so they could be the deciding votes on who won.

After careful consideration, Garmadon had voted for your build, while Wu voted for the Samurai Z suit. At last, everyone’s eyes turned to Misako, as she was the deciding vote.

She pondered for a moment, eyes darting from one sculpture to the other.

At last she spoke, “Okay, I’ve decided.” She paused for suspense, and then… “I vote for the ship.”

You, Cole and Jay cheered as the rest of our team groaned. The elders laughed at your childish antics, but Misako reassured the other’s that she was also extremely impressed with their build.

Even though it was only around five in the afternoon, the sun started to go down at around three thirty during the winter.

“So who’s up to go look at some Christmas lights?” You tossed up to the group.

Everyone agreed. That’s how you ended up on the back of Cole’s dragon, flying towards the concrete jungle of Ninjago City. You and the rest of the ninja landed in a quiet alleyway right next to your favorite street that went all out with their decorations.

Stepping onto the street, hand in hand with Cole, you felt as if you stepped into a Hallmark movie. Bright twinkling lights woven from one building to the other, while storefronts had their animatronics displayed for the public, Christmas music playing softly around the whole street.

The whole street had been closed to let people walk around and admire the lights. Additionally, vendors were lined up on each side of the street selling all sorts of trinkets and yummy treats that casted a soft aroma.

You pulled Cole to one of the vendors and picked out an ornament shaped like a diamond. Cole reached into his pocket and paid for it before you even had time to blink.

He smiled down at you, and pecked the top of your head before steering you back towards the rest of your friends.

You and Cole lingered slightly behind the group, watching as Lloyd and Kai were shoving each other, trying to get the other to slip.

“Oh, pretty,” you mused, pointing at a pair of lights that were made to look like icicles, the light moving downward to add some movement to them.

The street was crowded, as you expected, but your group was only stopped a few times for pictures with fans before you continued down your peaceful walk.

Cole slung his arm around your shoulders when he saw you shiver slightly. You didn’t mind, in fact, you curled up more into his jacket, rubbing your hands together in your still slightly soggy gloves.

All too soon, the colorful street ended, and you ended up in front of the large tree decorated with bright lights and a very large golden star at the top. Ornaments the size of basketballs hung from the branches, and what looked like miles of garland wrapped itself around the tree.

When the time hit six thirty, fireworks had been set off just behind the tree. The seven of you watched the bright colors light up the sky in awe before the cold finally chilled you to your bones.

The flight back to the monastery was chilly, but clinging to your boyfriend who was always warm made it a bit more bearable.

You smiled lazily at the streets below you as you flew over them. Pressing a tired kiss the the back of Cole’s neck, the hours of being outside finally caught up with you, and your eyes slowly drifted closed.

When you awoke next, you were in Cole’s arms just outside the monastery. You shot him a tired smile, to which he returned with a kiss to your lips.

You and the rest of the ninja took your time untangling yourself from your wet clothes, tossing the outer layers in the dryer while Kai got started on making seven mugs of hot chocolate. Eventually, all you were left with was a long sleeve compression shirt, leggings, and wooly socks that had managed to stay warm throughout the day.

You and Nya collapsed in front of the roasting fire of the den as the rest of the boys soon followed suit, mugs of hot chocolate in hands.

Cole took a seat behind you on the fluffy white rug. He held out an extra mug of hot chocolate with five mini marshmallows floating on top of the warm liquid.

You shimied yourself to sit between his legs, your back to his chest as you raised your mug to your lips.

Cole’s hand covered the lop of your mug before it could come in contact with your tongue.

You shot him a confused look over your shoulder.

“It’s still hot, gorgeous,” he chuckled. “Just wait a bit so you don’t burn your tongue.”

You pouted, but complied. Burning your tongue was never fun. Finally, after everyone was seated, you indulged yourselves in a few games of Incoherent before your hot chocolate was finally safe to drink.

You hummed constantly as the rich chocolate soothed your tastebuds and cold body.

Here, in this moment, curled up with your boyfriend in front of the fire, surrounded by friends, it was in your eyes the perfect first snow day.

So I’m playing Ninjago dnd with some friends (playing roughly the plot of Master of the Mountain but with our own twists) and I’m Kai.

First session, both Nya and Lloyd get absolutely bodied by some wolfbats, whereas I’m fine.

After only mild hesitation I decide to cauterize their wounds.

I need you to know this thought only entered my head because of All I’m Asking For

So I got a little insane about Ninjago when I stayed up too late one night

[this is copy-pasted from my notes app]

So I was listening to lysergide daydream and then Christmas kids came along and I was reading a Ninjago fic when it happened and and what if they were normal. And ok? And like just were friends. Hanging out. Doing stupid bullshit together. And then like what if that’s what they all want at some level. What if they daydream about going on stupid camping trips and accidentally falling in the lake. What if they daydream about going to their favorite noodle restaurant and challenging each other to see who can eat the most bowls before throwing up?

What if Jay and Nya wish they could go watch a bad movie together and go to a greasy diner after? What if Zane and Pixal want to be able to do the same without getting weird looks everywhere they go? What if Lloyd wants to go to a normal school where he is rewarded for good behavior, and have his only worry be how he is going to finish an essay and science project by Friday? What if Cole wants to be able to go hiking in the woods and camp under the stars for a few nights, just because? What if Kai wants to spend a night out in Ninjago city where he doesn’t have to look down every alleyway he passes?

What if Lloyd finds a postcard in the rubble of a fallen building during the latest attack and longs so desperately that he and his friends could be the people in that photo that he keeps that postcard under his pillow every night after? What if Zane tries to join his friends outside one winter to enjoy the snow but has to lock himself in the basement of the monastery for hours afterward reminding himself of where he is? What if Jay can’t bring himself to go into antique stores because once he went to buy an old radio that his parents would’ve loved but one of the lamps in there looked a little too familiar, so he had to run out without it? What if Nya wants to go back to her favorite meditation spot at a waterfall but she can’t stand the sound of running water anymore because underneath it she can still hear those faint whispers calling her back home? What if Cole dreads when he goes to honor his mom on each Day of the Departed because every time he feels a little bit of himself silp away, and he is afraid that one day the last of him will go too? What if Kai doesn’t fully enjoy using his elemental powers anymore because something is different about them after he watched Aspheera use them to burn Ninjago city to the ground? What if Pixal realized that none of the nindroids shes ever met were able to live normally, so she secretly built another nindroid to give them that chance, but they were destroyed when the spider bombs went off, and that crushed her more than any of the ninja will ever know.

What if. 

What if. 

What if.

What if Zane can’t bring himself to go back to the crossroads because during his lookalike contest he realized that there were no Formlings, no ice fishers? Not even one of those helmets he can instantly recognize? And somehow the lack of anything there is so much worse than seeing them again ever was. Because it gives him a gut punch that leaves him hollow for days after. Because he knows that they know. That the things he did will forever be immortalized in the stories that they tell for generations to come. And that he sees the same hollow fear in Fritz’s eyes too?

Ninjago Fic Rec Week (2024): Day 2

Prompts: Multichaps/Villains! (catching up slowly but surely~)

Shark Bait: ALRIGHT CONFESSION I haven't actually *read* this one yet ONLY because I know it's going to soooooo good and it's going to change my brain chemistry so I'm waiting until I am Emotionally Prepared but UWAH just the premise alone should be enough to entice you: Movie!verse with completely secret identities, and Lloyd/Green Ninja trying to take matters into his own hands...only for irony to make them worse, as is the story of his life. This author is already a legend as it is so who needs a summary GO READ GO READ NOW!!

Ninjago: The Nya Perspective: SINCE this masterpiece favorite of mine just updated not too long ago, there's no better time than to recommend it once again! Have you always wanted more from Nya in the early seasons?! Have you always wanted more of HER side of story?! Have you wonder how Nya became the person she is today?! Well wonder no longer for this story has got those answers and more!!!!

Sharpen the Scythe, Before He Reaps: Another that I've started but never finished, it's a reworking of the Day of the Departed, so you know it's FULL of Ghost!Cole goodness, from the good to the angsty!! And what I've read so far is sooo soul-grabbing (pun somewhat intended) and makes me wish DotD was even half as introspective as this jhgfdgfd

Thank You For Giving Me Wings: Over a year later and this is still my only multi-chap ninjago fic (...that, uh, isn't Legacyverse nor OC-related, oop). Still, it's never a bad time to have a little introspective on Wu bonding with his students over the years, moreso as family than anything else <3

All I'm Asking For: Quite possibly one of my very favorite Ninjago fics ever, it is REQUIRED reading as far as I'm concerned! Cole's the anchor character, but it follows EVERYONE in a slightly-altered aftermath of March of the Oni, with everyone recuperating, figuring out what's next for them with their lives and relationships, and spiced up with a little Christmas flair <3

Mechanical Hearts: A story I've been keeping an eye on for a while, it's a college Jaya au with plenty of Jay+Cole dynamic spread on top, and the way the author (hi Finn!!) writes all the characters is so deep even in the lighter moments and makes all the senes in the world for the setting they're in, and I love all the little nods to canon or the cheeky changes made along the way–it's so enjoyable!

Villains:

for want (for nothing): Not technically a villain, but Kai's certainly an antagonist here ooooooooh (a different, heart-wrenching take on the Kai-Lloyd confrontation in S4)

Lord Garmadon Is Not Impressed With the Future: Another one I've recced before, but now it has an equally villainous SEQUEL so I've gotta get everyone on the train again! And this story's got villain!Garmadon and villain!Garmadon-but-having-a-personal-crisis upon realizing that his future is...not at all what he wanted. And he also discovers himself beating the life out of his own son–so yeah. We definitely can't have THAT. Good stuff, good stuff.

Bucket List: Might be a slight cop-out since this is moreso about Kai BUT it IS my favorite Morro-related fic, and he is a villain, thus it fits! (...Plus I gotta put at least three stories in this section, c'mon). Anyway, Kai allows Morro to possess him for less-than-ideal reasons and presents a fascinating dynamic between the two and what it means to truly live and take responsibility (the good, the bad, the ugly, and all). Be mindful of the tags and warnings, though!

Outgrown (from Spider Lily's Claws): I knew I almost forgot a Harumi one! DR-fic in which Harumi stumbles across the monastery looking for a place to recuperate, and a company-starved Lloyd welcomes her to stay. A fascinating look at a Harumi who's still got her "Evil" instincts but is still trying to act in her best interests, while Lloyd...is Lloyd hgfhgd. I love their back-and-forth bad-idea-good-idea dynamic here a LOOOOOT

This amazing fic is an AU of what would have happened in Day of the Departed if Morro never got to warn the ninjas. Ughhhh.... I dunno how to write this blurb without spoiling the story... So here is the blurb the authro made:

When Jay first saw the ghost, he noticed it's shattered glass eyes and then it's voice. It rang like several voices overlapped on each other, covered in static noise. It was like a scattered radio signal, the only thing that he could make out was the devastating rage in it's scrambled words.

The ninja become haunted and in turn the ghost finds a home to haunt.

2. What’s something new that you tried in a fic this year?

Well for starters, I wrote for a new fandom this year (My Adventures With Superman)! So that was pretty fun. I used to write for multiple fandoms, including DC, but I hadn't touched that in years. I also wrote a gen fic for the first time in a while (Orange is the New Black, which I want to update sometime this month)! Not sure any of those are truly new, but...

6. What characters captured your heart?

In Ninjago, this year it was Vania, Movie!Cole, Movie!Lloyd, and ironically Sora! I'll probably write some DR fanfic eventually, even though I so far haven't, just because I like Sora a lot. For MAWS, it was absolutely Lois Lane. She's like a feral cat and I love her.

17. Share your favorite opening line

From "The Best Gossip On The Planet": It was undeniable! Simply preposterous to even begin to dispute this truth! This would be the story which made the fabulous Cat Grant a star journalist!   (I think it's fun. I intend to break into comedy more in the future!)
