i keep seeing people getting a little confused about the titles and terms used in rotbb so i thought id make a quick little guide on the more common titles and pre/suffixes used in the novel/manhwa

for minor context, members of a sect may take on the names that denote which generation they come from within the sect (current mount hua consists of, in order from eldest to youngest, the hyun line, the un line, the baek line, and the chung line, though the true generational naming convention would have typically been chung > myung > hyun > un > baek, which would then repeat in a cycle) however taking on a generational name isnt necessarily required/enforced (ex. yu iseol, yoon jong, jo gul, etc do not take on generational names)

in his previous life, because chung myung was raised in the sect since infancy, he took on the chung generational name as his ‘birth’ name, as the chung line was the generation he was raised in. when he reenters mount hua post resurrection, he becomes a third class disciple, aka the current era chung disciples

TITLES

jangmun: sect leader, jangmun'in is used when speaking directly to the sect leader (ex. hyun jong, chung mun)

sasuk: senior martial brother, used by disciples of a different rank to senior disciples of higher ranking (ex. the chung disciples referring to the baek disciples, the baek/chung disciples referring to the un disciples)

sajil: junior martial brother, used by disciples of a different rank to junior disciples of a lower ranking (ex. the un disciples referring to the baek/chung disciples, the baek disciples referring to the chung disciples)

sasukjo: great martial uncle, used by disciples referring to the line above sasuk

sajo: martial grandparent/ancestor

sason: martial grandchild/descendant

sahyung: senior martial brother, used by disciples within the same rank to disciples who entered the sect earlier than them (aka chung myung referring to the elder chung disciples, chung disciples referring to yoon jong)

sajae: junior martial brother, used by disciples within the same rank to disciples who entered the sect after them (ex. the chung disciples referring to the chung disciples)

sajeo: senior martial sister, same as sahyung but used for women

sago: senior martial sister, same as sasuk but used for women (ex. tang soso referring to yu iseol)

samae: junior martial sister, same as sajae but used for women (ex. baek cheon referring to yu iseol)

dojang: disciple (ex. older characters use this to refer to chung myung/disciples of a sect)

hyung: meaning older brother, used by males when referring to their older brother or to an older male colleague one is friendly with

hyeonja-bae: referring to the hyun generation

unja-bae: referring to the un generation

baekja-bae: referring to the baek generation

cheongja-bae: referring to the chung generation

maehwa geomjon: plum blossom sword saint

hwasan shinryong: mount huas divine dragon

amjon/amzone: dark saint

maknae: used to refer to the youngest person in a group of people

PRE/SUFFIXES

-ah: a suffix that denotes casual familiarity typically used for those who are younger than the speaker or are of the same social standing, used at the end of a name if the name ends in a consonant (ex. hyun jong calls chung myung ‘chung myung'ah’)

-ya: a suffix that denotes casual familiarity typically used for those who are younger than the speaker or are of the same social standing, used at the end of a name if the name ends in a vowel (ex. chung myung calls tang bo ‘tang bo'ya’)

-nim: a respectful suffix that essentially means mr/mrs/miss

dosa: meaning taoist (ex. tang bo typically refers to chung myung as hyung nim/dosa hyung/dosa hyung nim)

-jon: a title given to martial artists who have mastered their respective martial arts perfectly, the most honourable title a warrior could get, translated to as ‘saint’ in the novel or 'supreme' in the manhwa (ex. plum blossom sword saint, dark saint)

please keep in mind however im not fluent in korean nor am i fully familiar w these terms of address and am using my knowledge of chinese honorifics and titles as they follow a similar formula.. if ive mislabeled something or used an unfaithful/misleading description, or if you just have more to add that i havent listed, please lmk!

Tang Bo watches as the sun falls behind the horizon, the warm colors of the sky cooling as night settles once again. The wind brushes against his hair and it comes to Tang Bo as easy as breathing to ignore the loneliness and loss that have carved out permanent spaces for themselves in his heart.

The Plum Blossom Sword Saint's funeral felt ill-fitting for a man whose sacrifice ended the increasing threat of the Demonic Cult. The affair was somber, attended only by the man's martial siblings and few select representatives from several other sects.

Standing among the sea of pink, Tang Bo's eyes remained dry as the hours went by with the crowd slowly decreasing until eventually all that stood between Tang Bo and Cheong Myeong were the empty silence and the cold, damp soil under which the man—what they could find left of him that is—rested.

A warm hand on his left shoulder pulls Tang Bo out of the haze he unknowingly found himself in. He turns around and, in a voice that fell flat even to his ears, greets, "Sect Leader Cheong Mun."

The older man has clearly seen better days. Red-rimmed eyes, slightly unkempt hair, and more lines on his face than when Tang Bo saw him last, clearly the man had not taken the death of his younger brother well. He was the only one who could pull Tang Bo away from Cheong Myeong's gravestone.

The trek back to the Sect Leader's residence was filled with a sense of disquiet; their mutual grief made it difficult to break the invisible wall between them.

Cheong Mun has Tang Bo sit in front of him as he pulls out a small chest of letters. With slightly unsteady hands, the man hands him a letter from Cheong Myeong. It was part of the pile of written messages that Cheong Myeong left on the Sect Leader's desk before he left Mount Hua with no other explanation.

Six months. Cheong Mun prayed for Cheong Myeong's return. He had sent out multiple missives and personal letters to various major and minor sects in the hopes of catching Cheong Myeong and bringing him back to their sect. Instead, what returned was rumors of one man single-handedly tearing through the Demonic Cult's ranks.

And, at the end of those six months, all that returned of Cheong Myeong after the Demonic Cult finally fell silent was news of his death and the broken shards of his sword.

Tang Bo could recall the moment with vivid clarity as Cheong Jin, devastating grief marring his features, fell to the ground in front of Cheong Mun and a visiting Tang Bo. His hands bled with how he clutched at the pieces of Cheong Myeong's broken swords and the burnt green ribbon that was stained in dried blood.

The sharp clack of Cheong Mun's chest closing draws Tang Bo away from those memories.

His eyes shift down to the letter, without even reading it, he could tell that Cheong Myeong had written it in a rush. The words that marked the letter as his sprawled across the page with some letters having been smudged in the haste it was written. These were all but Cheong Myeong's last words to him. He wants to read it. He doesn't want to read it.

Cheong Mun silently slides him a letter opener. Tang Bo knows the man also wants to know what had been written for Tang Bo. Cheong Mun's letter was filled with gratefulness and apologies from Cheong Myeong. There were no explanations from him. They hoped Tang Bo's letter would give them more clarity.

Trembling as his eyes passed over the words, Tang Bo's breath is pulled out of his lungs as if he had been struck by a painful punch. The paper in Tang Bo's hands crumples before it flutters uselessly to the ground—and with it, any doubts that Tang Bo had about his hyung-nim's actions leading to his death.

I was promised a life for a life. Tang Bo, I hope this time you live well. Travel the world for me.

Tang Bo's eyes fall shut and when he reopens them, he returns to the present. A beautiful view that greets him and him alone. In another lifetime, Tang Bo would have really liked seeing this view with Cheong Myeong.

Okay, but what if CM, despite all his efforts, was unable to deal with the damage alone? Without dual cultivation, his body started failing, systems giving out one by one. And CM had to turn to the only person who knew what has been going on and how utterly, irreparably broken he really was. To the man, who single handedly made his life a living hell, who he hates and despises with all his being. To Baek Oh.

Why him? Because CM is ashamed of his weakness, of himself. And he knows that his Cheong Mun sahyung loves him, but he can't bear the thought of disappointing and wounding him. So he keeps quiet. He looks after his sajils, watches BO like a hawk. He can beat the pain and humiliation, but he won't let same things happen to anybody else.

CM still travels all over Kangho, but his trips are shorter and less frequent. TB, enamored and pining, companies him. He doesn't usually stay at Mount Hua, preferring to stay in an inn, but this time he makes an exception. Plum trees are in full bloom and CM invited him to a drink under the trees.

He knows that something is wrong as soon as he sees the man, sees how CM's body goes rigid beside him, eyes filling with hatred and contempt, bu there was a flash of fear just for a moment, almost unnoticeable.

And so TB starts his little quest to learn more about his hyung-nim and his mentor and why there are such feelings between them.

What he uncovers shakes him to the core. Needless to say, he has no intention of letting things continue as they are.

Hej! Dzisiejszy bilans:

Nie mam siły. Czuje się słabo, jestem zmęczona i mam wrażenie jakbym nie uczestniczyła w niczym tylko obserwowała siebie z boku. W sensie jak w grze z widokiem w pierwszej osobie…

W nocy króle po mnie biegały, ale po przytulaskach dały mi spokój. Rano wstałam, nakarmiłam i posprzątałam mieszkanie. Ogarnęłam lodówkę i spakowałam jedzenie, którego nie będę jadła. Poszłam na spacer do lodówki spółdzielnej by obdarować potrzebujących jedzeniem, które u mnie tylko by się zepsuło… Od dziś przygotowuje jedzenie tylko na raz. Mam dość marnowania pieniędzy… Po powrocie zrobiłam pranie i wyrzuciłam śmieci. Było mi bardzo zimno, więc wzięłam gorący prysznic. Po nim położyłam się na chwile. Z chwili zrobiły się 3 godziny. Z fryzurą na Wodeckiego poszłam na kolejny spacer by zrobić kroki. Niech się ta majówka skończy. Dzikie tłumy są wszędzie i czułam się przytłoczona spotykając tylu ludzi w lesie… Wróciłam do domu i kroki dokończyłam w mieszkaniu.

Zrobiłam sobie napój zero w soda stream i jakoś przetrwałam chodzenie. Na resztę ćwiczeń nie miałam dziś ochoty. W sumie na nic nie miałam ochoty poza spaniem. Ciągle nawiedzają mnie myśli o jedzeniu. Mam ochotę jeść choć nie jestem głodna. Przygotowałam sobie ryż z warzywami by się zapchać i naprawdę czuje się pełna a głowa ciągle mi podpowiada by jeść… Nie ufam sobie, więc chce jutro posprzątać mieszkanie z jedzenia i oddać większość co mam (poza musami czy jedzeniem niskokalorycznym) rodzicom bądź wrzucić do lodówki spółdzielnej… Waga stoi w miejscu, centymetry zaś lecą. Pije za mało wody. Musze pić jej więcej zamiast napojów zero. Od jutro tylko woda ewentualnie woda gazowana z cytryną.

Ruda i Jerry mają się dobrze. Chciałam im dziś nawet zrobić jakieś zdjęcia, ale nie mam na to siły. Z Rudzikiem dziś były przytulaski i buziaczki. Ewidentnie dziś potrzebowała bliskości. Jerrego zaś capnęłam i przytuliłam. A tupał na mnie obrażony xD wygłaskałam go i choć było mu dobrze bo trzeszczał zębami to na „do widzenia” mnie lekko dziabnął w palec xD

Na szczęście majówka już się kończy. Przez to całe wolne mam wrażenie jakby była niedziela… Jutro zapewne przyjdą do mnie te nieszczęsne żarówki do Toyoty. Może też trafią do paczkomatu kijki do nordic walking. Kupiłam je bo takie chodzenie spała więcej kalorii, niż normalne. Nie mogę się doczekać, aż będę je miała u siebie. Będę mogła się czymś zająć i zmotywuje mnie to do wychodzenia z domu…

Edit!

Już posprzątałam to jedzenie i schowałam do bagażnika… Nie dawało mi to spokoju. Przy okazji okazało się, że mam sporo musów, owsianek i puszek z których mogę wyczarować niskokaloryczne obiady. Zatem od jutra jem tylko to co mam w domu. Do sklepu idę tylko po świeże owoce bądź warzywa (głównie dla uszaków).

Ozone, my Zebstrika. He’s been with me ever since I was little, and I love his grumpy ass dearly. He’s getting on in years, but he’s still gotta get his daily run in. He got his name for his smell lmao (I’ve since learned that it’s fairly common for Blitzle and Zebstrika!). He’s actually a bit large for a Zebstrika, which is great because that means he’s perfect for me to ride!

Nimbus, my Luxray. She was a rescue, and the one who got me passionate about electric types! I found her out on the streets of Nimbasa with a chunk outta her ear, back when she was just a little (very fluffy) Shinx. Since then she’s gotten very friendly and cuddly. She can startle pretty easily, but she’s a big softie at heart. Nimbus is really sensitive to others’ feelings, and great at soothing them. She actually has a slightly unusual pigmentation, because the usual yellows are actually pinks

Lux, my Kilowattrel. Wattrel aren’t found around here, but I got a line on a breeder who was happy to hook me up with him. He’s still pretty young, but really eager to learn. He’s got the makings of a star teammate, for sure! His favorite thing is when he gets to soar out above the docks whenever we’re in Driftveil or Castelia

Beanie, my Galvantula. She kinda fell into my lap by accident, and now she’s part of the family! Caught her as a Joltik feeding on one of my electrical sockets when I came home from training one day, and she captured my heart. She really enjoyed sitting on heads as a Joltik, and she’s convinced she’s still lap-sized. This causes many problems

Dymie, my Magneton. Short for Neodymium. It’s a mischievous lil guy. Tries to use its magnets to unzip my zippers, and seems to reflexively generate interference whenever a Rotom’s camera is pointed at it. It doesn’t care about my XTransceiver though? Caught it out in the Virbank Complex as preparation for my fight with Roxie!

Pal, my Wash Rotom! This little shit used to be my phone before it broke out. It struggles to see when its pranks have gone too far. Dymie used to bully it as a phone, but has decided to take mercy. Presumably because it doesn’t have a camera anymore? But have you ever heard the urban legend about time-traveling Rotom elevators? Seems something like that is my issue

for those who aren't familiar, the fic being referred to is this one!

Tang Bo literally jumping through every hoop known to man just so he could get Tang Gunak and Chung Myung to divorce. Of course, Chung Myung needs someone to support her (and him, by extension).

But that person has to be unobtrusive and trustworthy enough. Since Tang Bo's still a kid, he also needs someone who can not only protect Chung Myung, but also provide for them. He wishes he can grow older faster, but he knows how to compromise. Even if it grates at him, he'll do what he can.

Obviously, Tang Gunak—that traitorous descendant of his—doesn't deserve Chung Myung's time with how he didn't even realize she was pregnant until she was about to give birth. A terrible husband, for sure. Tang Bo refuses to recognize him as his father in this life.

So Tang Bo makes a checklist of all the potential suitors (some were suggested by Tang Soso, great descendant by the way since she helped Chung Myung give birth safely). Some characters were quickly crossed out after one meeting and hearing rumors about them like that suspicious Jang Ilso guy.

He goes through the list of Mount Hua members and the closest person he could accept to being his replacement father was Yu Iseol, but the way Tang Soso crossed out her name from their list herself threw a big wench into his plan.

He was so close to giving up, but then a bright light of hope appeared in front him. A bright light that bounced off his beautiful bald head.

Unobtrusive, calm demeanor, A CELIBATE MONK.

He runs over to Hye Yeon who looks and smiles at Chung Myung's child with absolute patience and understanding in the face of Tang Bo's manic eyes.

And then Hye Yeon's mind blanks out depsite hearing the choked coughing from Tang Gunak to the side and Chung Myung's cursing at her own son when Tang Bo tells him with complete seriousness,

"Please be my new father."

okay so i have more to this. me and my friend went insane about this, like i said.

so mt hua arc. tang bo spent his time in mt hua ofc cause he's attached to the baby girl, plus he wasn't around in the tang estate much anyway so what's many more days? months? years? this is his daughter now. he sure as hell won't be a deadbeat lol

chung myung stuck around with tang bo but was a bit distant to the little girl. all too happy to let the other take the reins in parenting the child that he had no idea how to care for. chung myung spent his days with his cheek propped up on his palm, just watching the father-daughter duo play and be giggly.

(there are times that he'd felt somewhat of an outsider just looking at the two of them. he's never felt this way around tang bo before)

one day tho, tang bo was summoned back to the estate for some things that "elders were supposed to be doing", as quoted by tang bo. he couldn’t really escape this now as he never really went to stuff like this anyway, unless it was urgent. so he decided he went but left his little girl in his hyung-nim's care as he didn't want to leave the girl in the estate while he tended to whatever he was told to do.

"Hyung-nim. I think I left her clothes and the formula in your room so you have to go get it there. Remember to play with her too and watch over her always and—" "I GET IT." (he does. he's spent enough time looking at tang bo doing it that he can basically memorize their routines himself)

and so, tang bo makes his way to the tang estate with the promise of quickly coming back. he bids goodbye to his daughter and leaves her in his hyung-nim's hands. chung myung stands near the gate with the baby in his arms, properly held (he got taught by tang bo) and the little girl babbling while reaching out to her slowly leaving father.

for the next two days, chung mun has the pleasure of seeing his junior brother struggle with taking care of a little girl that's just as attached to him as she is to her adoptive father. chung myung's training sessions would get interrupted by the bundle of joy and whenever he would set her down to sleep, the little girl would fuss and reach out to him. she would cry if left alone so chung myung had no choice but to carry her around, sometimes you can see the baby strapped to the sword saint's body securely as he does his rounds around the sect lol.

"You're just as troublesome as your father", chung myung says one night, as he lies beside the little girl. he keeps tapping the baby's nose as he tries to get her to fall asleep. the baby, not knowing what's actually happening, kept trying to catch her babysitter's finger.

that night, when chung mun checked in on his junior brother for the day, he sees him and the baby both asleep, the little girl's tiny hand loosely wrapped around the older one's finger.

(tang bo finds them both in the same situation the next night after)

(the following week, chung myung adopts the little girl as his own)

he hears a baby crying in the distance? he stops whatever hes doing and snaps his head around so fast his neck cracks.. a kid trips and falls in front of him? he picks them up, dusts them off, and rubs their head and wipes their tears if they cry.. a child is lost and cant find their parents? he carries them around on his shoulders until he finds them.. a weary tired mother trying desperately to get her baby to sleep? chung myung offers her a break and rocks the baby to sleep in his arms like its nothing

Tang Bo is not running, because what if he's wrong or his grieving mind conjured up an illusion of his dear friend? How can he move on after? So no, Tang Bo is walking slowly, like every step pains him, but it's simply impossible to stop.

All this time Cheong Myeong doesn't look at him. In fact, Tang Bo is sure that after that first glance, he hasn't looked at any of time travelers at all, like they are not there. It's odd, but why'd his friend behaved like that becomes clear when Tang Bo torches him.

Cheong Myeong turns so fast it's a miracle that his neck hasn't snapped. Pink eyes stare at Tang Bo with confusion and disbelief at first, but then there's pain and guilt and hope.

"Bo-ya?"

"Hyung-nim. Missed me?" Tang Bo tries to elevate the mood and misses spectacularly, because for the first time since their fateful bimu, Cheong Myeong takes another look at him, all his returned sect brothers and sisters and breaks down crying.

Up to this moment, Cheong Myeong honestly thought that he finally went insane, what other reason why he's seeing all those dead people? Better pretend that everything's fine. When Tang Bo touches him, he nearly suffers a qi deviation on the spot. All his repressed emotions catch up with him at once.

Cheong Mun and Cheong Jin rush to the pair. Lots of crushing hugs, tears, and reassuring words. At some point Cheong Myeong looks at Tang Bo, remembers his death, and how they never took that tiny step forward, believing that they had all the time in the world. Now he knows better. So Cheong Myeong kisses Tang Bo right there, in front of everyone, because what if it's his only chance?

The truth of Cheong Myeong's identity is finally revealed. It's both unexpected and completely believable for those who know him as Divine Dragon.

Tang Bo and Cheong Myeong finally officially get together. Marriage contract is negotiated and written in record time, because everyone is sure that otherwise those two would simply elope.

I think that "present" generation will eventually get in sooo many fights with the "past" ones because of the their treatment of Cheong Myeong.
