so many people say "omg price and gaz are so father and son coded" NO!!! they are mentor/mentee coded and that leaves PLENTY of room for nasty hot gay sex. PLUS perceived forbidden relationship!!! them sneaking out of base to fuck in dingy hotel rooms because they know they shouldn't but they just can't stop themselves.

they're both switches when it comes to who tops and bottoms, but no matter who's getting fucked, price is always taking the lead. gaz doesn't mind though, he's more than happy to listen to his captain throw out gruff demands both in the bedroom and on the battlefield <33

what do they want to hear?

what do they need to hear?

what do they dread to hear?

Thank you for the ask !! I honestly struggled with the answers, I'm not the best at deep character introspection so this really had me scratching my head. I hope what I came up with makes sense !

What do they want to hear?

Nikolai: "I trust you."

Nik is intimidating, isn't he ? Intelligent, strong, well-connected Nikolai. People know that. It usually takes only a half a second glance to know that you do not want to be on this man's bad side. He's used to it, really. But how many times as he entered a room only to see people shift uncomfortably, suddenly very aware of his presence? He makes people uneasy, whether he wants it or not. It's fine when he's on an op and needs to be menacing, but it gets old quickly when he just wants to relax, sometimes.

He's trustworthy, despite his shady dealings, he's loyal. Thankfully, a handful of people know that.

Price: "You made a difference"

Yes, his hands got bloody, but it was all worth it in the end, right? He saved people by pulling the trigger when it needed to be done. No hesitation, it's what the world needs. So what if he can't sleep at night and his file is covered in black ? He made a difference, the rest, he can live with.

What do they need to hear?

Nikolai: "You need to think of yourself, too."

Nikolai puts others first, this has always been true. He likes to help out, likes to feel useful, ready to answer a call. Loyal to a fault, devoted to his friends. But when was the last time Nik put his needs as a top priority ? Has he ever done that ? He has no trouble flying to the other of the planet at a moment's notice if someone asks him to. How many nights of sleep has he missed because someone needed a hand? How much time has he spent fixing up his helo because it got banged up the last time a friend needed transport in hostile territory ? It's always others first, never himself, and he needs to be reminded of that.

Price: "You matter."

It's easy to forget that you're someone when you've been used as a weapon since you were 16. You forget that you have a purpose outside of your work, too. You forget you're a human first, with needs and wants and desires. You are Captain John Price, but you are also just John Price, and he matters too.

When he comes home for a break, what does he see outside of blank walls and a barely lived in house he never really took the time to make his ? It's temporary, he thinks, he doesn't really live here.

Maybe John needs to be reminded that he exists outside of his work.

What do they dread to hear?

Nikolai: "You don't belong here."

From either side. I think Nik feels strongly about his relationship with his home country, how he's been working against it and how his actions might be perceived by his countrymen. I think he's scared of losing this part of himself, and being rejected, even though all he's done was in the name of his country.

And then on the other side, Nik knows he stands out, knows people see him as a "could have so easily been the enemy" kind of guy. People like him, sure, but how many, aside from Kate, John and Gaz actually trust him ? Everyone else sees him as useful, but ultimately, they still look at him with a suspicious eye.

Where is home for Nikolai, really ?

Price: "You failed them"

Losing people, he's used to it. It never gets easier though, does it? Men and women under his command, people he's known for years, people who trusted him, friends. But, there is something entirely different between losing someone when you did everything you could have done and it was the way it was supposed to go, and losing someone because of your mistake. He failed them, he knows that, and it haunts him.

I'm sorry to hear you're having a rough day Q !!! I hope things get better for you soon, you should treat yourself to something nice in the meantime <3

I don't know if this is really a prompt, more like me spilling some random idea at you, but If this can help as a distraction:

Nik and Price who have decided to go on one of their hush hush black ops together. No backups, no one to pick them up, it's just them. It's dangerous, they know it, they know the risk, but who they're after is too important.

They knew the risk, even when they get separated, coms dead, and Price finds Nik laying on the floor, beaten down, bleeding, three bullets in his bulletproof vest. Nik is almost passed out but tells him he's fine and to go after the man they're here for, but John refuses, letting the guy go, despite what they risked to get him, and takes Nik home.

What follows is a long night of taking care of a bruised Nik, whose ego is hurt just as much as his body is, and who cannot understand why John of all people would let an important target escape to help him, when he wasn't even on the verge of death or anything. Two stubborn men who are very much in love just going at it.

yeah since six am this morning every thing that couldve gone wrong has gone wrong and its still going wrong lmao i made tea like 20mins ago to try to make myself feel better and the lid on my honey came off so i had to clean honey off of my desk :)

this brought me immense joy hehehe i wrote a little snippet for this idea it just came out of my brain i didnt intend to write anything but here we are pfft:

John finishes wrapping the bandage around Nik's arm, his hands steady despite the storm raging in his chest. Nik winces as he shifts, propped up against the couch, his face a patchwork of dried blood and bruises.

"You should have gone after him," Nik says, his voice hoarse but cutting. "We had him, John. You let him go because of me."

Price’s jaw tightens. He doesn’t look up, instead busying himself with the med kit. “I made the call, Nik. Let it go.”

“I was not dying,” Nik insists, a flicker of anger in his pale eyes. “You did not have to—"

“I wasn’t losing you.” John’s voice is low, rough, but the weight behind it silences Nik.

Nik studies him, the line of his shoulders, the way his hand lingers on a bandage like he’s bracing for another argument. “I am not fragile, you know,” Nik says quietly.

“Didn’t say you were,” John counters. He finally looks at him, his blue eyes hard but honest. “But I’ve buried too many people to risk you being another. Call me selfish, but I wasn’t bloody leaving you there.”

Nik scoffs, leaning his head back against the couch with a grimace. “Selfish? You? No. Stupid, maybe.”

“Say what you like,” John mutters, grabbing a wet cloth to clean the blood off Nik’s cheek. He works with a gentleness that doesn’t match his gruff tone. “You’re here. That’s what matters.”

Nik huffs, but there’s no heat behind it. “You will regret it tomorrow,” he murmurs, eyes closing as John’s hand steadies his face. “Letting him go.”

John’s lips twitch into a faint, humourless smile. “Maybe,” he admits. “But not as much as I’d regret losing you.”

Nik opens his eyes at that, his expression softening despite himself. “You are impossible, you know that?”

John sets the cloth aside, his hand lingering for a moment on Nik’s jaw, a rare, unspoken moment between them. “So are you,” he replies. “Guess we’re even.”

The tension between them settles into something quieter, warmer, as John leans back, handing a blanket to Nik with a muttered, “Get some rest. You’ve earned it.”

Nik doesn’t argue this time, though his lips twitch into a faint smirk. “You are not going to hover all night, are you?”

John snorts, settling into the chair beside him. “Like hell I’m leaving you alone. Someone’s gotta keep you from doing something daft.”

Nik huffs out a soft laugh, wincing slightly. “And I cannot stop you?”

“Not a chance,” John replies, leaning back but keeping a watchful eye on him. “You’re stuck with me.”

Okay but, Price would see Nik resting like that and 100% be drawn in, until Nik's pulled him onto his lap. Price practically nibbling at those little grey hairs all over Nik's chest. <3

Oh I'm definitely having many, many thoughts about that ....

The art in question

I can just see Nik working on his helo on a hot summer morning, he's sweating, oil stains on him, jumpsuit tied around his waist since it gets so damn hot inside the hangar. He takes a break eventually, sitting on a chair and gulping an entire water bottle.

That's when Price walks in. He has some intel in his hand he wants to go over with Nikolai, although those files quickly end up on the floor when Price's eyes meet Nik's body, his face immediately flushed.

Nikolai chuckles and invites him in, Price picking up the files from the floor before approaching Nik, his eyes so hungry and unable to look away from him, drops of sweat going down Nik's neck until they meet the heavy greying fur of his chest, the way the golden chain falls around his neck, how some strands of his jet black hair are loose and stuck to his temples. It's the most beautiful sight John has ever laid his eyes on, and he gets lost in it.

Of course, Nik catches on really quickly, not unaware of his own charms. He smiles as he grabs John’s hand, pulling him closer until his favorite captain is sitting on his lap. Price mumbles something about people seeing them like that, and Nik reassures him by telling him no one has been around all morning, that it’s just them. John relaxes, his fingers timidly touching Nik’s chest at first, lost in the heavy hair there. His smell is incredible, just pure masculine musk, his cologne mixed with sweat and oil and Price wants nothing more than to kiss his skin, tease it, fucking bite into it if Nik allows it. His body wants him, all of it, against him, right there, right now. 

A quick glance around to make sure they truly were alone and Price indulges, lowering his face until his lips touches the side of Nikolai’s neck, his scent all over him, skin hot under his touch. Nik helps him, a firm hand around Price’s waist to keep him steady as he bends his neck to the side, giving even better access to the captain, who starts going lower and lower, until his nose is brushing against Nik’s fur.

This, this is the best spot. Price can’t remember how many times he fell asleep against Nik’s chest, his soft body hair and the heat of his skin better than any pillow. 

His lips quickly find one of Nik’s nipples, tongue playing around it, teeth teasing it until a soft, deep grunt leaves the Russian’s lips. 

That’s it for Nikolai, who decides to grab John by the front of his t-shirt and drag him to a small storage room near the back of his hangar. “Let’s review that intel” he says, and Price follows. 

Both of them are sweaty when they come out of that storage room.

Siege and Storm- Chapter 17

After some deliberation I've decided to put almost everything from the first part of this chapter under a single post, because all of it is thematically intertwined. It paints a picture of the state in which Ravka finds itself, its treatment of Grisha, all the reasons Aleksander attempted the Coup, and how he's about to get repaid.

Wow, I wonder why would anyone mind being perceived as no more than (annoyingly) living, breathing furniture...

... at best.

Why is Ravka so behind in military development?

There wasn't an involved Tsarevich to sweet-talk the Royal Couple into letting the Fabricators work on ~that~, because let's be honest- it certainly wasn't Alina, who persuaded them.

And the best mind they have doesn't want to create tools of destruction (and apparently the big, bad Darkling didn't MAKE him, if David's so shocked by use of Alina's powers to spread the Fold).

*mumbles*

As if he'd never done that before... as if the Darkling were a stranger to battle...

Shadow and Bone- Chapter 10 & Rule of Wolves- Chapter 33

Yeah, he sounds exactly like the kind of general, who stays in the rear...

Look, I know Sikurzoi are supposed to be uninhabitable or whatever, but let's be honest- which mountains (in mild climate) are completely uninhabited? Why wouldn't Aleksander- a lives-long student of survival- use otherwise hostile place to hide?

I know ~I~ would.

Do you mean "Are there any living Grisha left, stationed there?".

Geeez...

Zoya truly doesn't acknowledge the First Army massacres, does she? And the word ~would~ have reached them at this point, even if we ignore the dead from Grand Palace. Fedyor's group's in Little Palace!

Remember, children: It doesn't count as war, if they only regularly attack your villages, draw back, and their government claims it knows nothing!

He’s never faced the might of the First and Second Armies working in tandem... I wonder why... Could it be because your precious First Army hates his people so much they went to slaughter them the moment the Darkling's out of the picture?

I know this is Naïve Nikolai, but the way he puts it... as if otkazat'sya working alongside Grisha weren't exactly, what's Aleksander trying to achieve for centuries. As if he didn't manage it on smaller scale with his oprichniki. As if he should be surprised by mere possibility of it!

The weapons will be only a cherry on the top, the reason he keeps using nichevo'ya even though it costs him dearly. It's the kind of weapons he fears, because he knows, what it can do to his people (aside from rendering them strategically useless). He's seen massacres, he caused massacres, he cannot prevent them. And let's not forget he might be in the front line, but it will be those remaining 80 % of Grisha right behind him. And Nikolai's fancy new machine guns won't miss them more than his Army's weapons did.

This is horrifying.

They intend to slaughter the man for the crime of standing up to their regime and finding a way to substitute his people with canon fodder of magical variety, completely disregarding whys, or bothering to check if they're not living in a glasshouse first.

Why is no one asking about the pogroms? Why is no one questioning Grisha safety FROM FIRST ARMY?! Why do they act as if another massacre of Grisha should solve all their painfully obvious issues?!

Why am I supposed to wish THEM success?!

In a way...

How is your victory gonna ensure Grisha a place in Ravkan society, Alina?!

You murder the Darkling together, good... then what? Ya'll get a nice house in the country and your neighbours won't burn it to the ground? Stone you to death next time something bad happens? Never again- Grisha being dragged out of their beds in middle of the night?!

THAT'S what Aleksander feared- once Grisha are no more necessary for the wars, there's no place for them in THIS Ravkan society! Unlike otkazat'sya, those weapons don't make them vulnerable only physically!

This makes my head hurt.

Are they truly this blind?!

There's not a single voice raised against cooperation with the very same people that have been murdering theirs mere weeks ago, but the Darkling is some sort of ultimate evil on word of one (1) girl and the remains of her semi-official ménage-a-trois?!
