So I was thinking. Please, friends, correct me if I'm not remembering correctly (bc haha it happens sometimes, like the hangover bit in my last recap)...but nobody...as in nobody, not Aziraphale, not anyone, told Crowley or insinuated that he should drink the laudanum and therefore prevent Elspeth's unaliving herself, and resulting in (him helping her, encouraging her to the exact opposite of what he's meant to as a demon) what we presume is punishment since he's dragged down to Hell afterward.
Okay, that happened in Edinburgh, in 1827.
Now let's go back to the French Revolution, (1789 - 1799) which, needless to say, was before that.
Aziraphale is ready to thank Crowley for helping him out, but the demon sharply warns him not to. To paraphrase, "Don't. If Hell finds out, I've been helping an angel, I'll be in trouble. My lot doesn't send rude notes." What am I trying to say here?
Crowley knew full well the trouble he could get in to if he was caught helping an angel. It's exactly why he doesn't want unwelcome ears to hear Azi thanking him for a good thing he isn't even supposed to be doing. Whether he knew all the details or had experienced it himself earlier than 1827, we don't know (hah at least I don't know, I haven't read the book just yet and this is all I know), but one thing I'm 99.999% sure of is that he's probably the only demon in Hell in this show who has done anything remotely good. I mean, I don't think Eric, Hastur or Ligur were wandering around doing stuff like that. So any memory or past experience Crowley has of the misfortune that might befall him because no good deed goes unpunished....I think would come from personal experience.
Now, that being said, it seems that in 1827, Crowley, of his own volition and without anyone else suggesting he do it, did what he did and ended up saving the girl. Also, telling her to be 'not pretend-y good but properly good'. So we assume, he gets punished for that.
I was just thinking about this and it seemed an interesting connection. And yet another reason why despite the fact that I love both Aziraphale and Crowley (because you cannot separate the ineffable husbands) I love Crowley just a little bit more.

Original vs. rendered sketches for this Lachryma-inspired Terzo 🕺
I was looking back on these today and feeling reflective. I drew these very quickly and went in circles for at least an hour trying to clean up the linework, but I kept finding myself coming back to the messiness of the originals...there's something sort of 70s Disney about them that felt very nostalgic and comforting to me. I ended up leaving a lot of the "mistakes" in the final versions.
I look back on these fairly regularly now when I need a reminder that digital art doesn't have to be completely clean to still be an enjoyable process. Drawing these were some of the most fun I've had doing art in a while, especially experimenting more with color.

I like being a trans man. I like my he/him pronouns and my tranny voice and my micro dick and everything I’ve been told is cringe and wrong. Being a man, and being a trans man is beautiful and there is nothing anyone can do to make me ashamed of it.

Okay, me getting onto my meta soapbox again.
So...if this has been puzzled out already and there's meta about this, please send it my way! But I've been wondering. Why did Crowley ask Aziraphale for holy water as "insurance"? This happened after Edinburgh, when Crowley was dragged back to hell after saving Elspeth's life by preventing her unaliving herself.
I think, if I'm not wrong--and if I am, please tell me because this is just me thinking things out--that when he was dragged down to hell, he was punished for that, tortured for God knows how long and well, made to suffer for the good thing that the did because he's a demon and he's not supposed to save souls.
Now, that being said. I had a few possibilities in mind. Ruling out holy water as a device for unaliving oneself because Aziraphale flat out denies the request and Crowley heatedly denies ever asking for it for that purpose. As in, he didn't mean it as a suicide pill'.
Knowing Crowley didn't want to use it as a way to unalive himself (not in the sense Aziraphale understands it, like just out of the blue wanting to take his own life), Crowley wants it to use in the event that Hell or Heaven comes after him. He'd then take it himself and keep himself out of their clutches. (Which I suppose is probably the more selfish direction, wanting to off himself)
This is something I heard somewhere....that he wanted some way to protect their relationship, in the event that Heaven or Hell would find out about it.
What I want to know, is the real why. We see, eventually, he uses it to destroy Ligur when Hastur and Ligur barge in on him. I just think it was interesting that Crowley brought this up to Aziraphale after Edinburgh.

Fanfics got me stewing on how bad Mobei Jun's upbringing was. Like, we know his uncle tried to kill him multiple times and we know he wasn't close with his father and that demons are brutal. Survival of the fittest.
Judging by his cold exterior and his minimal expressions (aka resting bitch face) and his lack of trust in literally anyone; bro had a hard time from an early age.
When your family either doesn't care about you, abandons you, or tries to kill you. It would make you withdrawn and defensive, and that's exactly the vibe he exudes. He doesn't talk unless necessary. He was probably ignored and / or told to shut up a lot in his youth by people he loved.
Then comes along a little man and his never-ending chatter and loyalty. Complete opposite of himself in every way. And he even saves his life multiple times! It takes them soooo long time to build trust and rely on each other.
But I imagine MBJ just waiting for the moment Qinghua betrays him. Stabs him in the back, figuratively or literally. The thought lingers in the back of his head, easily ignored most of the time but always there.
He'd test him. Do things to upset him and see if he leaves. Push him around and give him difficult work and drag him on hunts to see how he reacts. He's waiting for the betrayal. It's inevitable right?
And then, instead, he just leaves. Runs away. And MBJ is probably like, yeah, I knew this would happen eventually. It always happens eventually. He is probably mad at first. You know there's probably tantrums. Things get destroyed, and anyone in his way gets slaughtered, even though since Qinghua has been around, harm and destruction has been at an all-time low.
And then he's alone again for the first time in a long time. Even though he was always waiting for Qinghua to leave, he'd gotten so used to his companion that going back to being alone in unbearable. It's too quiet now.
This is why you can't trust anyone, right?
But he can't leave it alone, anr the empty place by his side that was filled with a small, yappy man who did all his paperwork and advised him on his ruling but was also a constant to rely on.
He can't go back to being alone again. He'll find Qinghua and drag him back if he has to. And he'll do what he has to do to bring Qinghua back.

2.30am and I can't sleep, so have the idea that I thought of today at an inappropriate time.
TGM AU where Bradley's paper are pulled, so he's furious with Mav, but Ice sits him down and explains why Mav did it. Bradley is confused and hurt, but the thing that pisses him off the most that is that Mav doesn't think he deserves this explanation.
So Bradley, being eighteen, decides he won't go the ROTC route, and instead throws himself into something else, and Ice and Sarah back him 100% and he's happy enough and successful but he still doesn't have a great relationship with Mav because he never apologises for pulling Bradley's papers and changing the course of his entire life.
And then Ice dies and at the funeral Bradley is standing with the family, because Ice and Sarah were his family, and he's spent every holiday with them, he's so very fully entrenched in their lives. He's Ice's son in everything but name.
Then at the funeral Jake Seresin sees this man standing with the family, and he's listed in the order of service as one of the children of Admiral Kazansky, and Jake's like Hmm - not bad looking. So he sidles up to Maverick to ask, because Maverick has this reputation of going after the daughters of Admirals, even though it's only happened the one time.
"So pops, any advice on asking the son of an Admiral out?"
And Mav looks around, wondering who Jake is talking about because he DOESN'T think of Bradley as Ice's son, but then Jake is staring at Bradley and not being subtle AT ALL and Mav almost chokes on a little piece of finger food...
