For the @mxtx-oc-exchange, here is Yu Feiyan for @bravemercutio!
Tumblr media
When I submitted to the forum, I wasn’t expecting such a fast response so I was definitely caught off-guard 🤣 But I’m happy to be part of the OC exchange and I was so excited when I got to know Yu Feiyan!
I love the fact she’s a strong woman in the Cultivation world and she has elements that definitely remind me of Luisa from Encanto with her backstory with her brother. Also, I hope her design turned out as well you as thought, Bravemercutio! I couldn’t find any reference pictures on your blog so I just decided to go with what I was given from the prompt. I hope you enjoy the art!
Thank you for letting me be part of this art trade! 🤗

Lan Wangji Goes To Lotus Pier AU: Part 4: Deranged Bedfellows
(Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4.5)
#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#mdzs au#lan wangji#nie huaisang#Yungmeng Jiang training arc AU#This is the *first* part of what was supposed to be a much longer comic (LWJ's morning routine in full).#I'll finish the remaining part as a reblog to this post! I just think this is the funnier chunk.#Lan Wangji absolutely is the kind of person who has a perfect internal alarm clock for when it is time to get up.#He already has a dedicated sleep schedule. He is accurate within 10 seconds of 5am every day.#I think the Jiang disciples are most likely used to waking up around 6:00-7:00am#But the allure of having a guaranteed time keeper getting you up in the morning is worth the earlier hour.#I imagine they started outside lwj's door and slowly moved closer as the weeks went on.#Now LWJ has to cope with being way too warm in the night from all the extra body heat.#LWJ is not a fan of this but they scamper off immediately after he wakes up and they at least show initiative to follow routine.#NHS joins in only because he is a chronically heavy sleeper and needs this level of intervention to get up early.#His boldness would be a death sentence in the cloud recesses but here? Whole new game.#Yungmeng Jiang isn't a lawless land. It's just a land with different laws.#And one of those laws is to forcefully domesticate the catboy coded Lan boy through any means necessary.#Completely different tangent: I drew the thumbnail for this before I did comic 134. I then realized they had the same visual gag.#So I had to space this one out so it didn't seem like I repeated the waking up joke. That's my secret and all of you have to keep it.#And in my land the law is that snitches get itches (telepathically transfers hives onto your body)

So since mxtx has said that in novel canon nie huaisang is eventually going to end up being chief cultivator we can presume the headshaker thing, while based on his existing personality, was in fact an act and he is way more competent at his job than he's let on. And with Jin Guangyao dead and gone he has no reason to put on that act anymore.
Imagine being an Nie cultivator. Your flopppy incompetent sect leader comes home from traumatic events after it turns out his older brother's sworn brother- who's been over to your sect basically every other week for years now- is the one that killed said brother and you're fully prepared for tears and dramatics. And while you definitley don't like lianfang-zun since it just came out he killed your last (way more competent) sect leader he was sorta the one holding the sect together so you're bracing yourself for the worst, and instead he's... stoic? Paperwork is suddenly getting done well and on time without help. He's not wailing during negotiations anymore and you're getting actual good trade deals for the first time in over a decade. He answers questions now? With something other than "I don't know i don't know i really don't know!"
And even if you had none of the revelations wei wuxian had in guanyin temple, slowly the realization creeps up on you that all his earlier embarassing antics that cost your family their comfortable livelihoods and your sect their good name was on purpose. And from there it's not that hard to put two and two together. The rest of the cultivation world assumes the shock of jin guangyao's betrayal has finally forced the headshaker to grow up a little but you have worked side by side with him for a decade, probably even watched him grow up under his brother's rule. You know better.
How do you feel at that point? What can you even do? He's your sect leader. And he's finally doing his job, things are looking up, shouldn't you feel relieved? It' not like his incompetence really caused any deaths among the nie, just wiped out generational wealth and reputation that will take years and years to build back up. Is it really reasonable to only start hating someone for something when they've stopped doing it? Thereby proving that they were capable of stopping all along?

If you think about it, Nie Huaisang's plans aren't as meticulous as Jin Guangyao's. His plans could be stopped immediately by unforeseen forces with enough bad luck, like what if Mo Xuanyu was not banished and instead killed? What if the ritual did not work? What if JGY denied his cryings in the Koi tower, disabling the messenger to deliver the letter to Qin Su? What if Qin Su wasn't that repelled from the fact that they're siblings? What if Qin Su did not believe the truth about their son's death? What if Si si refused to drop the bombs? What if the Sect leaders refused to believe the two random and unknown women? WHAT IF WEI WUXIAN DID NOT PLAY "WANGXIAN" IN THE DAFAN MOUNTAIN?
So many plans were released to the wind with a little prayer "I hope this works!", and you know what? They did! Because Nie Huaisang isn't actually an evil calculating meticulous mastermind who has plans from A to Z. That's Jin Guangyao. NHS is an artist, a theatre kid, and a grieving little brother.
He was also sided by the gods. (And the author)

Sangcheng week Day 2 - Music
Even with all the effort that Nie-zongzhu put into not cultivating properly with the Nie sabers, he still starts suffering from Qi deviations just like his predecessors, due to accumulated heart demons from the past decade. He vehemently refuses to be treated with the song of clarity for the longest time and only finally relents when he is promised to be held through it and kept safe by his beloved.
(this time i went with the live-action flavour because i never tried that before and it was pretty fun change actually haha)

Nie Huaisang, Lan Xichen, Jin Guangyao, and Nie Mingjue all reincarnate together into PIDW, and become disciples around the same time as Luo Binghe.
The drama of this is of course enhanced by the facts that NMJ & JGY died "early," but NHS & LXC lived to the end of their natural lives as cultivators, and so some of their perspectives and opinions on events have naturally changed with age. (tfw the passage of time renders you unfamiliar to your once-loved ones)
Eventually they talk about their feelings and reconcile and such, and this ends up derailing the plot of PIDW severely as the rest of the PIDW characters confusedly observe quite possibly the weirdest disciples Cang Qiong's ever seen
NMJ on Bai Zhan, with no clue what's going on because he died first and NHS & LXC haven't told him anything
NHS on An Ding, thoroughly enjoying what's pretty much a vacation to him at this point and possibly running an interpeak illicit goods market (definitely not to distract himself from any of the emotions having NMJ & JGY alive and nearby would be causing him, Everything Is Fine) I haven't decided if he'd get involved with the whole og!SQH and MBJ situation tho
LXC on Qiong Ding, because I feel like he'd see himself in Yue Qingyuan and lowkey hate him for it and I think that could be interesting
JGY on Qing Jing, because he's the objectively the funniest/most interesting character to throw into the mess that is SJ and LBH. The way I imagine it, he's doing the most direct derailing of the plot, because he mostly accidentally gets right in the middle of the thing that is going on between those two
I feel like as I wrote this it became more serious than I originally intended so just know that I'm mentally picturing this like a fic that's interspersed with outsider POV of the 4 of them being completely deranged about eachother
(Also I'd feel bad taking away LXC's brother so LWJ and WWX + friends are busy doing hot girl shit being rogue cultivators. I think WWX should be a half demon so he gets to keep the cultivation and steal some of LBH's protagonist energy. If this was a fic then the rest of the Untamed gang would be perfect to use for side characters during off-peak missions)
*grabs popcorn and sits down to hear more*
Nie Huaisang is having too much fun waiting the two idiots called his shizun and shizun's poorly kept secret of a boyfriend go flailing around on these terribly unromantic dates BUT THE TWO WERE TRYING SO HARD that it was cute. He wonders if he should do something to help the poor idiots out... Should he?
Maybe he should...
(Watch Shang Qinghua and Mobei Jun suddenly have a number of sex pollen accidents over the next few months....)
Lan Xichen would be an old man and a good voice of reason for Yue Qingyuan. Although he's head disciple and a very good one at that (if only because his Big Brother instincts can't be held back and he MUST interfere to help prevent history repeating once more), Lan Xichen has made it very clear that he would never accept becoming sect leader.
Also don't forget Liu Mingyan in the background writing about a 4 person sex orgy. At least, that's her personal theory for why there's so much UNRESOLVED TENSION between these four sus male disciples. And also, because it's fun.
It's even funner when you consider that Nie Mingjue is out of the loop of Cang Qiong stuff even on Bai Zhan because he tags along on so many of Liu Qingge's missions that he's probably spending like 8 months of the year outside of the sect.
(Nie Huaisang gets "assigned" to missions that happen to take place near Nie Mingjue's hunts.)
Meng Yao is Meng Yao and he still craves the approval of Male Authority Figures That Could be his dad. Also Meng Yao still likes to climb up the social hierarchy and power. AKA Luo Binghe growing mushrooms in the corner at seeing ANOTHER QING JING disciple THE SAME AGE AS HIM being given SO MUCH ATTENTION AND APPROVAL by shizun.
Luo Binghe develops a complex over Meng Yao of course.
(Shen Jiu approves of Meng Yao because he understands these characters very well and know how to manipulate (cough kill or injury them physically or mentally) them easily. Plus Meng Yao is actually competent.)
[More in #Nie Huaisang Lan Xichen Meng Yao and Nie Mingjue reincarnate into PIDW and are Cang Qiong disciples at the same time as Luo Binghe is AU

The True Disciple.
“What would you do if I died?” asked Wèi Wúxiàn morosely downing his drink.
“I would mourn you for the rest of my life;” answered Lán Wàngjī honestly, “And pine away in loneliness.”
“Die?!” Jiāng Chéng scowled, and shook his head, “I know you Bro! You wouldn’t die! I wouldn’t believe it, even if saw your body! I would look all over for you, until I found you!”
“Yadda, yadda;” sighed Niè Huáisāng, “If you died, I would have to call you back!”
“Call me back?!” asked Wèi Wúxiàn knitting his brow.
“Yes;” answered Niè Huáisāng grinning, “How else would I deal with these two?”
He raised his glass: “Happy Birthday Wei Wuxian!”
“I love you!” laughed Jiāng Chéng; “Waiter! Please bring us another round!”

Decided that for my mdzs creature AU, the Jins are going to be peacocks Phoenix, but I'm still debating whether I want to have Jin Guangyao to be a special little boy and be a Qilin instead or if I'm just gonna have him match the rest of his family

I don't think wwx would ever flirt w nmj because he's too far out of his age range and wwx really only flirts w his peers for fun and to gain something but I bet he did think he was hot because like. how do you not. if ur attracted to men?

nie zhuyan makes soaps on the regular after moving to Gusu to marry a-yu? A lot of them go towards various people or groups in Gusu (family members/friends, the baoshi, etc.) though he sells some of the special ones.
I forgot that Nie Zhuyan actually learned how to make soap at some point, so when I came back to this ask, I thought he was making...soaps.

MDZS Headcanon/Fic Idea | The forgotten 3zun legacy
A lot could be said about the Junior's. Yes, those Junior's.
They were always a handful. Always.
The tales had spread far and wide about specific groups of them especially - from the antics of WWX that NHS and JC always got tangled up in at Gusu Lan, to the next generations wild quartet that lived through the new age nightmare.
It was far from a secret in the world of cultivation that sects should beware of the curse of groups of Junior's. They were great fun, but in the end all too often also a major pain to tame and handle.
However, there was a certain trio that had gotten away scot-free. Were their tales too boring? Or were they just overshadowed by the fails and laughs of the others? Or was it just the mayham their world turned into..? Or maybe the three boy's in question were just never caught..?
One thing was for certain, innocence was not in the path of LXC, JGY and NMJ.
From the time they had a drink, the first time they shared an adult bevarage.. that had them realize that Lan's really weren't good with the liquor.. to the time that NMJ was about ready to choke LXC with the flute he'd been trying to teach the oldest while the youngest, JGY, watched in horror...
Yes, one thing was for certain. Somehow the tales of those Junior's had never seen the light of day.. but man, did they have some great stories waiting to be told - while hoping they'd never be told.

One underdiscussed aspect of the bone-deep lack of mutual understanding during the nieyao stairs scene is that Nie Mingjue doesn't know - and can't know - what he's actually asking of Jin Guangyao. Not because he doesn't understand how his father treats him, or how tenuous his position is. But because he has no clue Xue Yang is a demonic cultivator.
Remember: Nie Mingjue is still alive, which means the position of chief cultivator doesn't exist yet and Jin Guangshan is facing heavy pushback for suggesting it. Most of that is coming from a fear that the Jin will try to become the next Wen. So having an outer disciple murder an entire clan and then not even punish him properly? This is a collosally bad move politically! You might as well be waving a red flag around yelling "I want to kill other sects with impunity!" There's a reason that years in the future, the moment Jin Guangyao becomes acting sect leader, he will immediately order Xue Yang's death (He doesn't actually die, either by accident or on purpose on jgy's part. But the point is that as far as the public is concerned he had Xue Yang executed.)
From Nie Mingjue's perspective, Jin Guangshan just shot himself in the foot politically for some random outer disciple. It's morally wrong, but it's also incredibly fucking stupid. In his eyes, he is asking Jin Guangyao to do the glaringly obvious right thing, even when exclusively looking at the Jins' self-interest. The thing that surely everyone else in the Jin also wants Jin Guangshan to do! Jin Guangyao can say that he has no influence on his father all he wants, but it is obvious how much work he does and so, as much as his father may not respect him, he clearly at least trusts Jin Guangyao's competence. Nie Mingjue has already tried shouting directly at Jin Guangshan during the trial and it seemed to work, but then Jin Guangshan went back on his decision like a complete idiot. So now Nie Mingjue is asking the guy who is famous for being good at rhetoric and convincing people to convince his donkey of a father to do the obviously correct thing with minimal downsides because again, to Nie Mingjue, this is all about some random outer disciple. It makes sense to ask this! It's a pretty reasonable request! Jin Guangshan can't possibly care that much.
Except of course he does. Because Xue Yang isn't some random outer disciple. He's the only good shot Jin Guangshan has at recreating the yin tiger tally. And Jin Guangshan reaaaaaally wants the yin tiger tally. So bad that he is fully willing to tank an ungodly amount of political goodwill to get it. Jin Guangyao is fully aware that not only will Jin Guangshan never kill Xue Yang, he isn't planning on keeping him locked up either. In fact, after Nie Mingjue is dead, he'll free Xue Yang and strongarm Chang Ping into denying the guilt of his family's murderer. Jin Guangshan cares a lot about keeping Xue Yang in his employ.
And Jin Guangyao knows this. But he can't tell Nie Mingjue that! Because then he'd have to admit they've been doing demonic cultivation. That the fucking ghost geneal is in their basement. That, oopsie, they actually also killed a whole other entire clan just a while ago after framing their sect leader for an assasination attempt and then used their bodies as fodder to make more fierce corpses. You know, in case one mass murder wasn't enough!
So obviously he's not gonna say that. Which means Nie Mingjue has no idea what he's demanding from Jin Guangyao, and therefore no idea why he absolutely can't fullfill that request.
I get why it's not mentioned very often because there are a lot of other problems which are both more obvious and more fun to talk about. (Who doesn't love a little overcomplicated trolley problem?) But I think it adds just another layer to the chasm between them in this scene. They're not just disagreeing, they're having completely different conversations.

TURN LEFT BY KIANSPO - WIP
“Make me so ugly that no one will ever want me,” he says. “Please.”
Or: Lan Wangji is kidnapped from the Lan Clan when he's still a small child. He retains no memories of his real identity, and only knows himself as a servant at Madam Ji's brothel. When the clients begin to look at him with interest, he finds someone to curse him and take away his true appearance, and with it any chance of ever finding his family.
(Not a brothel fic, that's only the starting point. A Wangxian story. A Twin Jades story.)
(A Lan Wangji that did not grow in the Lan clan story)

Nie Huaisang stands at the top of the stairs in the perfect spot to see all the incoming sect leaders with ease but also hidden enough to hide from dage who was surely looking for him by now. He taps his fan to his chin as he eyes Sect Leader Ouyang’s arrival.
“Whatcha doin?”
Nie Huaisang startles, jumping in the air.
“Wei Xiong!” he whines. “You can’t do that to me! You know how sensitive I am.”
Wei Wuxian rolls his eyes and sidles up next to him.
“Sooo,” he sings. “What are we doing?”
“Watching the arrivals.”
NHS gives WWX a critiquing glance over, running two of his fingers along his black sleeves.
“Hm. You get silver. Points for the red ribbon, I do love a signature, but hemp cloth? For a Discussion Conference? Really, Wei Xiong?”
“What’s wrong with hemp?” he frowns, looking down at his robes. “It’s very durable and rarely stains, especially when dyed so dark.”
NHS rolls his eyes. “Hemp is all well and good for training or night hunts or whatever, but not for a conference. Look at Sect Leader Chang from Yueyang. He gets gold—nice silk with a gorgeous brocade, delicate layers but not overly heavy or gaudy. That shade of blue really isn’t his color, though.”
“So…” WWX frowns. “We’re… judging their clothes?”
“Yes, Wei Xiong; do keep up,” NHS sighs.
“What’s the ranking?”
“Copper, silver, gold, jade.”
“Well shijie obviously gets jade,” WWX says. NHS, wisely, doesn’t argue. “And Jiang Cheng gets silver only because he punched me earlier today.”
“Jiang Cheng does have good taste in robes,” NHS admits. “Did you see Jin Guangshan?”
WWX wrinkles his nose. “He looked like gold threw up on him.”
“Absolutely dreadful. All that money and not a lick of good taste. Copper for sure.”
“Sect Leader Yao looks like he’s covered in grass stains,” WWX remarks.
NHS snorts. “Whoever dyed that silk needs to find a new job.”
They go back and forth for a while, scathingly judging the cultivation gentry’s appearances for the Discussion Conference. When the Lan climb the stairs to Koi Tower, WWX gets suspiciously quiet. NHS pays him no mind and continued his critique.
“Erge looks regal as always. Ooh, I helped pick out that brocade! It looks gorgeous on him, I’m almost jealous. Definitely jade. Lan ergonzi looks… as stony as usual. His robes aren’t nearly as flashy as erge’s but they’re a nice, muted accompaniment. I’ll be generous and give him gold.”
“No!” WWX suddenly says, voice almost loud enough to draw attention towards them. He shrugs off NHS’s shushing. “Look at the finer layers of his robes. He has more embroidery than Zewu Jun, it’s just subtle. And the way the blue under layers ripple beneath the white makes him look like a river god walking on water. He absolutely deserves to be jade.”
NHS looks at WWX silently, but the other boy is too focused on watching a specific Twin Jade to notice.
“Yeah,” NHS agrees slowly, tapping his fan to his chin. His eyes don’t leave WWX’s face, parsing his complicated expression with a knowing smirk. “They are the Twin Jades, after all.”
My friend said that Discussion Conferences should be the MDZS Met Galas

I bet in the 3zun + NHS AU, everyone thinks that Lan Xichen is like a young Yue Qingyuan (except of Shen Jiu, of course)
At least Lan Xichen is "sweet" on a not rude person!
To be more accurate, Lan Xichen is obviously going to appear to be much closer to Nie Huaisang than anyone else in Cang Qiong. He's now in that awkward almost-but-not-really-strangers-but-kinda-are state with Nie Mingjue who died in Lan Xichen's early adult life. Compared to the many many decades he lived after Nie Mingjue's death, Lan Xichen is a very different person.
Nie Huaisang comes off as lazy and unmotivated, but his reputation most certainly does not paint him as someone malicious or evil (like Shen Qingqiu). He's just... pampered and slothful.
If anything rumors might paint Lan Xichen and Meng Yao as having a bad breakup because of how awkward the two are with each other.
[Nie Huaisang Lan Xichen Meng Yao and Nie Mingjue reincarnate into PIDW and are Cang Qiong disciples at the same time as Luo Binghe is AU]
