Warning for suggestive Wayne/Nick content (no nudity, just implications) because I don't want to put this directly on people's dashes but like. I had a brain blast.

Bayer fuckin’ aspirin
It’s the first time I write a one-shot in english so please, if you notice everyhting that could be changed, tell me
This post has some Jimmy/Donny because I love them.
 _______________________________________________________________
A new club just opened its doors in Cleveland and it took Donny only two weeks before he managed to get the band a gig here. They obviously wanted to make a good impression so they can play here again but Donny’s health decided otherwise.
Of all nights, it has to tonight. Of course it must happen tonight, or else, it wouldn’t be funny.
Donny is massaging his temples for the hundredth time today and he managed to make the band not notice it, so he’s proud. But this joy is short-lived as his head begins throbbing again, and the sounds that weren’t here regulary anymore just came back stronger and it hurts.
Honestly, the pianist just wants to curl in his bed and sleep forever, but he can’t. He has to get on that stage and play, like nothing is wrong. He was used to pretend he was fine when the band started, but not anymore.
“Why the hell are you still here, Donny ? We have to go, hurry !” Nick screams. Well, Donny knows he didn’t scream but for his head, Nick screamed and it didn’t help the headache at all. Donny grumbles something like “Coming.” before standing up and walks on stage.
 That’s when hell broke.
The screaming of the crowd was fighting the screaming of Boganville, like the spotlight for the stage was fighting the light of the grenade’s explosion. Welp, no sleep for him tonight. The band leader is pretty sure he’s going to have a panic attack. Instead, he takes a shaky breath and walks at the piano. And Julia, bless her soul, begins to talk. He doesn’t understand a word she’s saying but the only thing he knows, it’s that the whole band is looking at him, expecting something. He then understands he was supposed to give the signal to begin, he tries to remember what was the first song they planned to play, at the last rehearsal. Nobody. There, he remembers. Take that, headache.
The gig was hell. Every horn, every voice, every move has made the feeling worse. The thing is, Donny was trying to not pass out of pain so hard that he didn’t notice the looks of concern the members of the Donny Nova band had,and they still have these looks when they walked off stage. Johnny takes Donny by the arm and pulls him in a room where the band had let their coats.
The room was simple, a couch and two loveseats, a table and a window.Johnny makes Donny fall on the couch, his head resting on two coats. Julia puts her hand on his forehead before frowning with concern.
“You’re burning...” She mumbles, but loud enough for the whole band to hear.
“Donny.. Why didn’t you tell us?” Jimmy asks, worried. Even if he already knows the answer. Donny has no self-control when it’s about his health. (And he also has no self-control about pretty much everything.)
Donny just shrugs. He didn’t notice that Wayne was gone until he comes back, with the club’s manager behind him, a glass of water and a pill in his hands, still wearing a concern frown. Which makes Donny roll his eyes, and he regrets what he just did when his head feels like it’s going to explode.
“You guys were amazing !” Boomed the manager’s voice, which unconsciously makes Donny groan and buries his head in the coat, that was Jimmy’s, according to the scent and it almost makes him smile. He doesn’t need to turn around to see the manager’s confused face.
“Sorry about him, he’s not feeling well.” he hears Davy sigh, which makes him want to look at him and disagree but then he remembers. Davy is right. This thought makes him groan more in his boyfriend’s coat.
“Oh. That’s why you need the aspirin” Jimmy hums in agreement.
“What is the aspirin’s mark?” Johnny asks. That comment was weird and Donny was about to groan and to say that he doesn’t care and he just needs this fucking aspirin but the answer makes him glad that Johnny asks.
“Oh, Bayer Aspirin.” Nope. Noppity-nope. No way he’ll take a bayer fuckin’ aspirin ever again.
“Yeah, I think I’d rather feel like shit” Donny heard the whole band sigh and he opens his mouth to protest but Nick takes the aspirin and shoves it in Donny’s mouth and makes him drink the water in a weird way by touching his neck that makes Donny takes the mental note :“Be scared of Nick” .
To make sure someone could take care of Donny tomorrow morning -because in the others’ opinion, he can’t do that by himself (which is true but there’s no way he admitted that)-, he sleeps at Jimmy’s. But who he is to complain? That means more cuddles for him.
He wakes up in a cold bed, even if he’s pretty sure he fell asleep in Jimmy’s arms last night. His questions were answered when his boyfriend walks in with a soft smile.
“I see you’re awake, Sleeping beauty.” Jimmy chuckles, which makes him chuckle too. They kiss good-morning like when they did in the room of New York every morning.
“Feeling any better ?” Jimmy asks. Donny just hums in Jimmy’s chest. Donny’s childich antics makes Jimmy laugh, and this sound makes Donny’s smile.
“You do know that you acted like a child ? And still do?”
“Yeah but it gives me cuddles so I’m kinda proud.” The taller man just shakes his head in amusement.  They just stayed in bed, cuddling all day, sometimes going downstairs to eat, and it was the best way to recover from sickness. It soons a tradition whenever one of them is sick.

Hi! I am pretty new to the fandom! (I saw the tour right before covid started shutting stuff down and am currently watching the pro-shoot on loop!) One moment that has really stood out to me was Nick inviting Wayne to live with him. I just feel like that is one of the few times we see either of them with their walls down. Do you have any hcs about them? (And do you know any other good bandstand blogs? I really want to follow more people in this fandom!)
Oh totally! I love those two soooo much!!
Wayne keeps the apartment spotless which lowkey annoys Nick but he never says anything
Though Wayne lets him keep his room messy even though it pains him to see it
But once they start sleeping together, Wayne keeps both sides of the room clean
Wayne absolutely hates doing the dishes so Nick often does them
Nick holds Wayne’s hand if he’s getting nervous or a tic
Nick hates teaching as we know but he’s surprisingly good with children
Emily and Grady even call him Uncle Nick (though they don’t know that Wayne and Nick are together)
Only the band knows they’re together but Wayne and Nick have never even said it explicitly
They all just kinda know
Nick sees Wayne’s gun and is tempted to use it, even if that means just shooting at a bird or something, but he hides the gun because the last thing he wants is for Wayne to have his hands on it
Wayne gets upset when he can’t find his gun but Nick helps take Wayne’s mind off of it by playing some music and dancing a little
Eventually he explains why he did it and Wayne thanks him
Nick is a blanket hog
And they totally play footsies under the table

grand central station
if you’ve never been to grand central, the ceiling looks like this.
nick/wayne; 400 words; read on ao3 here.
When they reach the center of Grand Central Station, Wayne stops.
It takes Nick a moment to notice – he’s caught up in the swirling crowd and the rising voices and the emerald ceiling stretching far above like an indoor constellation – but once he has noticed, he can look at little else.
Wayne stands, two steps in front of the central kiosk, two steps behind a woman in an enormous red hat checking her watch, two steps beyond a gaggle of schoolkids pointing at some advertisement for cigarettes.  Wayne stands on a polished marble floor, below a constellation ceiling.  Wayne stands, pressed navy suit ever so slightly too loose at the shoulders, spotless trombone case in his right hand, left hand stuck halfway through jamming his hat into his coat pocket.
At times like these, Nick thinks Wayne is an island unto himself.  Or perhaps a ship unto himself – he is captain, crew, and engine, packed into wrinkled forehead over-combed blond hair eyes as deep as the sea.  Wayne is a ship unto himself, or perhaps an entire marine core.
Or perhaps he is only a man in a suit ever so slightly too loose at the shoulders, stuck in the center of Grand Central Station, never learned how to navigate by the emerald stars.
Nick heads toward him, one step two steps three.  As he gets closer, he realizes Wayne’s lips are moving.
“What’re you doing?” Nick asks.
Wayne startles – not expecting a friendly hail.
“Counting the platforms,” he answers after a moment.
He takes his left hand out of his pocket and gestures at the golden block letters ringing the station like so many painted horses in a carousel.
“Why?” Nick asks.
“Because.”  And Wayne looks at him as though this is simple, natural as a joint riff beneath one of Julia’s solos.  “I want to remember everything.”
Nick looks at him – at this ship, this marine core, this man – and then turns slowly, so that his view matches Wayne’s, like a pair of divergent melodies meeting on tonic.
They count the platforms together.  Eye and eye, melody and melody.  After, they end up almost sprinting to catch up with the rest of the band, but it’s alright.  Donny gives them a look that seems to say he understands why they needed to stop, and they walk to the hotel slowly, counting each street light and shop window on the way.
(There are forty-four train platforms in Grand Central Station.)

Do y'all think that during the Christmas after the radio competition, Wayne is invited to eat with his family (he's a bit nervous to go, but Nick encourages him and ends up also getting invited because Ms. Wright is delighted that Wayne found somewhere to stay) and that Wayne and she get to talk things out in private.
That they come to the conclusion that everyone involved is much happier with them separated, with Wayne coming to visit the kids, of course.
And that although they loved each other at one point, sometimes things don't end up just like they were before, but that's okay because they're both finding new ways to love and other people to show their love to.
And that they can still totally be friends. They just want the kids to be happy, for themselves to be happy, and for the other person to be happy. Yes, this means that they can get coffee every Sunday at noon after she and the kids are out of church.
And that when they walk back into the room, they find that Nick is teaching the kids about the artist of a record that they had put on to play in the background. Wayne cracks a joke that that's the first time he's seen him smile while teaching, and Nick snaps back that "you've never seen me teach before," followed by him beginning to tell Wayne to piss off, but cutting himself off after getting a very stern stare from both parents.
And that while Wayne tucks the kids snugly into bed, giving them three forehead kisses each and recalling their favorite bedtime stories from memory, Nick and Ms. Wright sit quietly. She breaks the ice, though, and asks what the stupidest thing Wayne ever did when they were younger was.
And that he isn't quite sure how to answer that question, given the answer involves a fling just after their high school graduation and an act that would probably get the both of them shunned from society. (Where do you think that line in I Know A Guy came from?)
And that she reads him like an open fucking book (his face flushes like a tomato) and says it's okay.
And that she, after a few moments of silence, asks him to comfort Wayne now that he spends much more time with him, with an approving, knowing sparkle in her eye and a small coy smile.
And that after Wayne comes back to the both of them that they drink together and laugh until it's way too late, and Nick and Wayne stumble out of the door, trying not to slip on the ice lurking along every block to their place.
And that Wayne tries *quite* hard to get Nick to wear his scarf, that "you're going to catch a cold,"
"I'm not, Wayne,"
"Famous last words."
And that they end up holding each end with one hand, Wayne satisfied with the outcome in his tipsiness and Nick glad that his hand is a little warmer. Maybe he should have worn the scarf, but it would be too awkward now to take it, and he is a very proud person.
And when they get through the door, they're practically falling over each other while trying to take their shoes off to the point where they get rapidly-melting slush *everywhere* and Wayne stares at the mess, wanting to clean it up, but is able to tell himself to wait until he makes sure Nick gets to bed.
And that he does, in fact, make sure Nick gets to bed before allowing himself to get out a simple mop to sop up the water. As he works, though, Nick tells him to go to bed. He doesn't, unsurprisingly, and is promptly guided to the couch he sleeps on and is asked in an uncharacteristically gentle voice to "Please let yourself relax."
And that he stares in both confusion and awe while Nick quickly goes and finishes cleaning before he can say anything. Nick says his present to Wayne starts tomorrow, and it's that Wayne gets the entire day to not do any cleaning (aside from his rituals, of course) and that Nick will take care of anything.
And that Wayne is flattered, knowing full well it's because Nick isn't able to afford an actual gift.
And that when they say good night to each other for real this time, that there's a little bit of the energy in their eyes that they had the day just after graduation, but with much more sincerity and clarity, despite the alcohol clouding their judgement.
And that things are good and right.
And that everyone gets the happy ending that they deserve.
