You were dressed head to toe in black attire, seated in the front row, tucked into the corner to avoid any eyes on you. It was the seat your father would have taken if he were there, but—truth be told—this scene would not have been desirable for him. Most people were not on his side at the moment, and although you knew the truth, you couldn’t compromise your dignity at this moment. Not for him.
“I’d like to invite y/n Fury to say a few words.” Said the pastor at the podium, making your face feel hot and your legs feel weak. You hadn’t expected that one bit, but from the corner of your eye you saw Maria’s mother give you a warm smile, knowing she needed to hear what you had to say. You emerged from your solemn corner and walked before everyone, wondering what they thought of your name.
“Hello,” you cleared your throat, “hi, everyone. I’m y/n. I’ve known Maria almost my whole life and I…I can’t even find the words to describe her.” You nervously looked behind you at the closed casket. “She basically raised me in a way. Taught me how to survive, but also how to live. I owe a lot to her and I will never be able to forget…her.” You paused for many moments, still wondering who despised you because of the news of your father. “Life will never be the same after this loss. Never.”

You’ve always been very reluctant to celebrate your birthday.
You haven’t had a birthday party since you were 12. The following year your mom died a couple of days before and neither you nor your family were in the mood to celebrate anything.
It wasn’t by any means unexpected, she had been sick for a few years, but it still hit you hard.
You were the youngest and were far too young when she first got sick to really understand everything going on.
You were 8 and all you really remember is watching your mom get more and more sick until eventually there was nothing more the doctors could do.
Her death hit you hard and you closed yourself off, never talking about it or even crying after the day of her funeral. To this day you’ve still never cried, in front of others or even by yourself.
You started exercising to channel all your energy, refusing to do anything more like the therapy your family suggested.
When you were 15 you discovered SHIELD and decided you wanted to help others, so you signed up for the SHIELD Academy, working your hardest and pushing yourself to your very limit.
You ended up being not only the youngest cadet ever, but the youngest to actually graduate and then the youngest recruit at SHIELD at only 16 years old.
Natasha was very impressed when she heard about you and took a liking to you, convincing Fury to make you part of her team during her missions and teaching you everything she knows.
That’s how you ended up in the Avengers Initiative, not that you felt you didn’t deserve it since you know how hard you worked and everything you gave up to work towards this achievement.
The team themselves were initially skeptical since you were barely 18 during the battle of New York, but they were quickly proven wrong when they saw how well you handled yourself against the Chitauri.
You were devastated when SHIELD fell, but carried on as an Avenger, battling Ultron and then moving to the Compound with the team.
You met the actual Bucky for the first time when you were 22, during the whole Civil War thing with Baron Zemo. Like Natasha, you were on Tony’s team, fighting mostly Pietro, but the conflict eventually ended.
It took Tony some time to get over the whole “Bucky killing his parents while brainwashed” thing, but, as he likes to say, he can’t call himself a genius without admitting that Bucky didn’t have much of a choice.
Thanks to Tony’s help Shuri was able to find a solution to Bucky’s brainwashing faster than she would’ve alone, meaning Bucky didn’t have to go back into cryo and was pretty quickly cleared to join the team, about a year after the airport battle in Leipzig.
You were warmly accepted by everybody and, the more the team grew the more you felt at home with these people.
And now you wish you could burn down the whole compound because, somehow, Tony convinced you to have a birthday party for the first time in 13 years because, in his words, 'you only turn 25 once'.
Good news is you managed to make him limit the guest list to the team and other people close to you like Maria Hill and Fury. Bad news is you’re still gonna be the center of attention, which you hate.
You couldn’t stop Tony from making everyone dress up for the party, and you couldn’t stop the team from getting you gifts even though you insisted all you wanted was everyone together and to have fun with them since for the longest time nobody ever even knew when your birthday was.
What you didn’t realize was that the only person more worried than you about your gifts was Bucky.
Since he joined the team the two of you have gotten close, starting with his first training with the team where he very loudly told Steve about his disbelief that someone as young and small as you could actually be an asset to the team.
You quickly put him in his place by taking him down after less than two minutes of sparring, taking full advantage of his underestimating you because he “didn’t want to hurt a pretty little thing like you.”
Admittedly he was impressed and wasn’t shy about letting you know that, while the rest of the team snickered at his initial shock when you pinned him down.
You became friends after that, not as close as you’d like but friends nonetheless.
If you were honest with yourself you’ve been harboring a little crush on the supersoldier, but he’s never shown any interest so you resigned yourself to just being his friend.
Something that you did come to treasure, though, is your and Bucky’s late night talks.
It started with you walking in on him in the kitchen on a late night where you couldn’t sleep, nothing new to you, but the two of you barely talked other than acknowledging each other.
You took a bottle of water and left.
A couple of days later you ran into him again and you stood there in silence while you made yourself a cup of tea and then left for your room.
A few days later again he was just sitting there and said nothing as you made your tea, except this time you put a cup in front of him and silently took a seat next to him at the counter.
Two nights later when you arrived at the kitchen he was already there with a cup of tea in front of him and one in front of the seat next to him.
You didn’t want to assume it was for you, but you took a chance when you noticed it was the cup you always used, a blue mug with Stitch on it that says “Let’s get weird”. Your favorite in fact.
You hesitantly sat down next to him and, without you having to ask or without even looking at you, he told you that the nights you stay up late because you can’t sleep you tend to be more quiet during the team dinners and while you hang out afterwards.
You didn’t say anything in return and just sat there, trying not to overthink how much he seemed to watch you.
But the more nights you spent like that, the more you two talked and you gathered quickly that Bucky is a very observant person, nothing more.
You loved the time you spent together after dark where you’d talk about everything and anything, but come morning it was almost as if it never happened, which you came to accept.
It weirdly made the nights you spent talking even more special, which was almost every night.
But back to the present, you’re currently getting ready with Natasha and Wanda, who know much more than you about hair and makeup and are always happy to help you out with getting ready for Stark parties.
You put on the black cocktail dress with rhinestones all over the corset and a slit down the left side, then the three of you make your way to the party room and you take a deep breath before entering.
Everyone is already there, all dressed up in fancy clothes as they all shout “Happy Birthday”.
You laugh and say hi to everybody while they all take turns hugging you, there’s not too many people but everyone important to you is there.
Even Laura and Clint’s kids are there, which you consider a second family at this point, since Laura always did treat you like a daughter.
You hate to admit that it's a nice party.
Knowing you, everyone makes an effort to not put you too much at the center of attention and you just go around talking to your friends like every other party.
Eventually time comes for the cake and, the moment you kind of dreaded, opening the gifts.
Since it's the first birthday you allowed the team to celebrate everyone decided to go all in for your gifts, which you picked up on from the very first gift you open.
Pietro got you a first edition of “The Picture Of Dorian Gray” which is your all time favorite book, Wanda and Maria got you a leather jacket and an amazing pair of boots that you knew were expensive because you were all out shopping together when you came across them.
Steve got you a gold heart-shaped locker with a picture of the team inside it, Natasha got you a charm bracelet with a little charm to represent everyone on the team, and Sam got you a cute necklace with your birth stone on it.
When you open Fury’s gift you start laughing since it's a gun, a SIG SAUER P226 to be precise, which is very Fury.
“It was my first gun when I joined SHIELD.” He says with a smile and you smile back, knowing how much thought he put into this gift.
You open Clint’s gift next, a bow and arrow that he already taught you how to use, and Laura got you a pair of diamond earrings.
Your heart melts when you open Lila, Cooper and Nathaniel’s gifts, respectively a friendship bracelet, an Avengers action figure of yourself and a Stitch plushie.
The three of them hug you tightly as you say thank you and now you only have two gifts left, Tony’s and Bucky’s, and they’re both little boxes.
You open Tony’s next, thinking it’s some fancy necklace or earring but you frown when you see a car key.
“Is this the key to your car?” you ask Tony, knowing full well you’re holding the key to an Audi R8 Spyder, the car Tony’s let you borrow so many times you’re now wondering if he’s gifting you his spare set of keys.
“No.” He says casually “It’s the key to your car.”
You’re even more confused and simply stare at him with your mouth gaped, not really processing the information.
“Y-you… You got me a car?!” You almost yell out of shock and everyone else starts laughing at your antics when you start basically jumping up and down and hugging Tony, squealing like a little girl.
“Well, come on, let’s go see it!” Tony says enthusiastically after you’ve calmed down, and you get up, just as enthusiastic, but are stopped by Steve’s voice.
“Wait, wait. You have one gift left.” He says, picking up the small box and giving it to you. “It’s from Bucky.”
You were so pumped up by the car, you almost forgot about it and completely miss the mischievous look Steve gives Bucky and the murderous glare Bucky gives back.
You also miss Bucky starting to protest before you open his gift, but he instantly shuts up when he sees your face falling the second you open it.
It’s a small necklace with a blue rose in it, it really looks like something you’d give a little girl more than a 25 year old woman.
You look at it for a minute, running your finger on it before you raise your head and look at Bucky.
The whole room goes silent as they all watch you worriedly, everyone noticing immediately that tears are streaming down your face.
Nobody understands what’s happening and nobody knows how to react or what to do, it’s like they’re all frozen by the sight of you being vulnerable for the first time ever.
Meanwhile Bucky’s heart is beating so loud he’s sure everyone around him can hear it, and he feels himself starting to panic at the thought of having ruined your birthday with that stupid gift.
Everybody else got you expensive gifts and all he did was get you a small, cheap necklace that reminded him of a story you briefly talked about once on one of your late night talks about a necklace you had as a kid.
He saw it at the mall while looking for a gift for you, remembering the sweet smile you had on your face when you mentioned it and the fleeting sad look he thought he saw when you told him you lost it when you were 12.
He was really proud of himself for that gift, but the more he saw the other gifts you got the more he regretted his choice, especially after Tony gave you a fucking car.
And now you were crying, not saying anything while just looking at him.
He doesn’t know what to expect from you at the moment, nobody does, he thinks you might yell, throw his gift back at him, tell him how much you hate it and him.
But you surprise everyone by throwing your arms around Bucky’s neck, hugging him tightly while crying into his shoulder.
You honestly forgot telling Bucky about that story and certainly didn’t expect him to remember it, especially since you always got the feeling that he didn’t care about your talks as much as you.
You just assumed that come morning he deleted everything you told him to make room for more important things, and you didn’t blame him.
But he didn’t.
What you didn’t tell him about the necklace is that your mom gave it to you because blue roses were her favorite, you had that necklace since you were born but you somehow lost it the day of her funeral.
That day you lost the two most important things in your life and cried yourself to sleep, and that was the last time you allowed yourself to be weak and cry.
Until today.
Bucky hesitantly wraps his arms around you, rubbing your back hoping to get you to calm down. He looks around at the rest of the team, panicking a little and not knowing what to do.
Everyone else is as clueless as he is, never having seen you in such a state before.
Bucky starts apologizing, his heart breaking at the sight of you crying, and he feels horrible that it’s because of him.
You shake your head quickly and pull away a little to look at him, wanting to reassure him you’re not sad or angry but incredibly happy, but words refuse to come. You take a deep breath to calm yourself and finally manage to speak.
“Thank you. You have no idea how much this means to me.” It’s quiet, but it’s something, and it’s enough to make Bucky let out a breath of relief at knowing you don’t hate him or his gift.
He brings you back in for another tight hug, almost forgetting about everyone else in the room as you hug him back without hesitation.
You’re honestly not even embarrassed at crying, all you care about at the moment is Bucky, his arms around you while he lets you bury your face in his neck, like you’ve been wanting to do for years now.
“Happy birthday, doll.” He whispers in your ear and, for the first time in 13 years, you really feel like it is.

Steve Rogers x Reader
TW: Enemies to lovers, Steve and reader are both jerks to each other, Tony being a little shit, spicy near the end but no smut.
»» ──────ஓ๑♥๑ஓ ────── ««
The briefing room in the Avengers Tower was already buzzing with conversation as Nick Fury strode in, trailed by a woman none of them had ever seen before. Tony Stark, as always, leaned back in his chair, sipping on a cappuccino with a casual smirk on his face. Natasha sat next to him, calmly tapping her fingers against the table, while Thor’s deep voice carried through the room as he recounted one of his many Asgardian exploits to Bruce Banner. Steve Rogers, Captain America himself, stood near the window, arms crossed, his gaze drifting toward the city skyline.
Fury cleared his throat, immediately silencing the room. "Team, meet Y/N L/N," he announced, stepping aside to reveal the woman standing beside him.
Her presence was palpable. She exuded confidence, her posture straight and assured, with an unmistakable glint of sharpness in her eyes. Energy seemed to hum faintly around her, like static electricity that hadn’t quite dissipated.
Y/N stepped forward, her gaze sweeping over the room with measured scrutiny. "Nice to meet you all," she said, her tone steady but not overly warm. Her eyes lingered briefly on each Avenger as Fury continued the introduction.
"Y/N is a new addition to the team," Fury explained. "She’s got experience in covert ops, but what makes her stand out is her ability to manipulate energy—plasma, electricity, heat. I’ve worked with her in the past, and she’s someone you’ll want on your side when things go south."
Tony raised an eyebrow, his interest clearly piqued. "Energy manipulation, huh? That's gotta come in handy at parties," he quipped, already leaning forward with that trademark grin of his.
Y/N’s lips curved into a smirk, meeting Tony’s challenge head-on. "I could fry your circuits in a second, Stark. But I’ll save that for when I really need to shut you up."
Tony’s grin widened as he leaned back in his chair, clearly delighted by her response. "Oh, I like her already. It’s about time someone besides Pepper was capable of shutting me down."
Natasha gave Y/N an approving nod. "Looks like Fury didn’t just bring you here for your powers. You’re quick."
Y/N chuckled, a sharp, low sound that made Bruce smile faintly from his corner. Even Thor seemed intrigued, murmuring something about the strength of Midgardian women.
But when Y/N’s eyes landed on Steve, who still stood apart from the group, her demeanor shifted ever so slightly. He hadn’t moved, hadn’t smiled, hadn’t said anything to acknowledge her presence, his jaw clenched tight.
Fury, ever the perceptive one, noticed the undercurrent and turned toward Steve. "Rogers, you gonna say hello?"
Steve straightened, walking over with that stoic air he always carried. His blue eyes flicked over Y/N with an unreadable expression. "Welcome to the team," he said, his voice polite but distant, as if her arrival was nothing more than a minor formality.
Y/N raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed by the half-hearted greeting. "Don’t sound too enthusiastic, Cap," she shot back, her tone laced with playful sarcasm, the corner of her mouth quirking up.
Tony let out a loud laugh, earning a playful elbow from Natasha.
But Steve remained stoic, his expression unmoving. "Let’s just hope you’re as good as Fury says," he replied, his tone clipped, his eyes narrowing slightly.
Y/N’s smirk widened, but there was something colder in it now, a challenge flickering behind her eyes. "Trust me, Rogers, I won’t slow you down."
The tension in the room was palpable. The rest of the team exchanged glances, picking up on the brewing undercurrent between the two.
Tony, always the instigator, nudged Natasha with a smirk. "This is gonna be fun."
Y/N took a step back, folding her arms as she addressed the rest of the team. "So, what's the usual around here? Stark throwing more one-liners than punches? Or does everyone else get a turn?"
Natasha chuckled under her breath. "He’s definitely an equal-opportunity quipster. You'll get your turn."
Y/N raised an eyebrow at Tony. "Is that right?"
Tony shrugged, all amusement. "I like to think of it as part of my charm. Keeps the team morale up."
Y/N rolled her eyes, her tone teasing. "Right. 'Morale.' Must be tough for everyone else to keep up."
Bruce snorted softly from his seat, barely managing to suppress a laugh. "You’ve got no idea."
Thor gave a booming laugh, as though the banter between them were the most entertaining thing he’d heard all day. "Truly, Stark's tongue wields more fire than most weapons."
Y/N smiled, enjoying the back-and-forth. It felt like she was starting to find her rhythm with them—most of them, at least. But out of the corner of her eye, she saw Steve watching her, his expression stony, arms still crossed. His silence was louder than anything Tony or Natasha had said, and it grated on her.
She locked eyes with him, folding her arms as she spoke again. "You don’t like people much, do you, Rogers?"
The question was sharp, and the room went a little quieter as everyone’s gaze flicked toward Steve.
Steve’s jaw tightened. "I like people just fine."
Y/N hummed thoughtfully, tilting her head. "You sure about that? You’ve barely said two words to me. Starting to think you don’t approve."
Tony leaned in, thoroughly entertained. "Careful, Capsicle. She's got you pegged already."
Steve’s eyes flickered to Tony, then back to Y/N. "I don’t need to approve. I just need to know you can do your job without putting the team at risk."
Y/N’s smile froze, her posture stiffening slightly. "I’ve been doing this for a long time, Rogers. I don’t need you to babysit me."
Steve didn’t back down, his gaze unwavering. "I’m not interested in babysitting anyone. I’m interested in keeping my team safe."
The words hung in the air like a heavy cloud, the tension thick enough to cut through. The rest of the team looked from Y/N to Steve, unsure of where this sudden hostility was coming from.
Natasha, ever the diplomat, broke the silence with a raised eyebrow. "Is this gonna be a thing?"
Y/N shook her head, exhaling slowly as she forced a smile. "Nope. No thing here. Just Rogers and I... finding our rhythm, I guess."
Steve didn't respond, his expression hard, but Tony couldn’t resist the urge to lighten the mood. "Oh, there’s definitely a thing here. This much tension could fuel my arc reactor for a week."
Natasha smirked, while Thor chuckled deeply. Bruce, however, shifted uncomfortably in his seat, clearly not enjoying the rising tension.
Y/N turned back toward Fury, trying to push the interaction with Steve aside. "So, what's the mission?"
Fury glanced between Y/N and Steve, his expression unreadable, though he certainly wasn’t oblivious to the friction. "We'll go over the details soon. For now, you’re getting acquainted. I trust you can handle that."
Y/N gave a nod, though the corner of her eye remained fixed on Steve, whose stony silence still irked her. Why was he being so difficult? It wasn't like she’d come in guns blazing. Well, maybe a little attitude, but nothing she hadn’t done with any other team.
As the team began to disperse, Tony, Natasha, and Bruce began chatting amongst themselves, but Y/N lingered near the door, her mind racing. She hadn't expected her introduction to go this way—especially not with Captain America.
Natasha approached her, raising an eyebrow as she glanced back toward Steve. "Don’t take it personally. Steve's a bit... cautious when it comes to new team members."
Y/N snorted softly, leaning against the doorframe. "Yeah, I noticed. Guess I’m just gonna have to prove him wrong."
Natasha smiled faintly. "Just give it time. He’ll come around. He always does."
Y/N tilted her head, looking over at Steve, who was now talking quietly with Fury on the other side of the room. "I’m not the most patient person."
Natasha laughed softly. "Neither is he. Should be interesting to watch."
In the following days, Y/N integrated into the team—well, most of it. Tony, as expected, took an immediate liking to her sarcastic sense of humor, and even Bruce opened up more around her. Natasha and Y/N trained together, and Thor respected her power and confidence, even suggesting that she spar with him one day to "test her strength."
The only hiccup in the team dynamic was Steve.
Their arguments became a regular occurrence. Whether it was during training sessions, tactical meetings, or even casual conversations, Y/N and Steve couldn’t seem to get through a day without butting heads. The rest of the team watched their interactions with bemusement, Tony and Natasha often making side bets on how long it would take before one of them snapped.
One day, during a mission debrief, Steve and Y/N clashed yet again, this time over strategy. Steve favored a more cautious, methodical approach, while Y/N argued for a direct strike, using her powers to neutralize the threat quickly.
"You don’t get it," Y/N snapped. "We don’t have time to play it safe. HYDRA’s not going to wait around for us to make the perfect move, Rogers."
Steve’s eyes narrowed, his voice clipped. "I’m not playing it safe. I’m making sure no one gets killed because of a reckless move."
"Reckless?" Y/N’s voice rose. "I’ve been in more of these situations than I can count, and I know when to strike fast. If we sit around and plan every detail, people die."
The rest of the team sat in silence, watching the heated exchange. Tony leaned over to Natasha, whispering, "I give it two more minutes before one of them explodes."
Natasha smirked. "I’m betting on Y/N. She looks like she’s ready to throw something."
Steve crossed his arms, his jaw clenched. "This isn’t about how many missions you’ve been on. It’s about working as a team. You can’t just go rogue whenever you feel like it."
Y/N scoffed, stepping closer to him. "I’m not going rogue. I’m making the call that’ll save lives. You can either get on board or get out of my way."
The tension was thick, and for a moment, it seemed like Y/N and Steve might actually come to blows. Y/N’s eyes flashed with that same energy she controlled, and Steve stood rigid, unflinching, his eyes locked on hers.
Tony raised an eyebrow at Bruce. "Think we should step in, or…?"
Bruce shook his head. "I think they need to get this out of their system."
Fury, who had been watching the entire exchange with a neutral expression, finally stepped in. "Enough," he said, his voice firm. "You two can hash out your differences later. Right now, we need to focus on the mission. Rogers, L/N’s got a point. Time isn’t on our side."
Steve clenched his fists, but he nodded, stepping back, though his gaze remained fixed on Y/N. "Fine. But we do this as a team."
Y/N held his gaze for a moment longer before she finally nodded, though her jaw was still tight. "Fine."
Fury gave them both a stern look before continuing the debrief. But the air in the room remained tense, and it was clear to everyone that Y/N and Steve weren’t done with their argument.
Later that night, as the team prepared for the mission, Y/N found herself partnered with Steve. Much to her frustration, Fury had insisted they work together on this one, despite the obvious tension between them. She wasn’t thrilled about it, and judging by the look on Steve’s face, neither was he.
They moved through the HYDRA base in silence, their communication reduced to clipped, professional exchanges. Y/N used her powers to disrupt security systems, her hands crackling with energy as she sent short bursts of electricity to fry the cameras and alarms. Steve moved ahead, leading the way with his shield in hand.
"Left corridor is clear," Steve said quietly, his voice coming through her comm.
"Roger that, Captain," Y/N replied, her tone laced with sarcasm despite herself.
Steve shot her a look, but he didn’t respond, opting to focus on the mission. As they moved deeper into the base, Y/N couldn’t help but feel the weight of his disapproval, like a constant presence at the back of her mind.
She hated it.
Suddenly, the sound of footsteps echoed from down the hall. HYDRA agents. A lot of them. Without thinking, Y/N raised her hand, preparing to send a pulse of energy toward them.
"Wait," Steve hissed, grabbing her wrist. "We can’t just—"
Before he could finish, one of the agents fired a shot, aiming directly for Steve’s head. Without hesitating, Y/N yanked her wrist free from his grip and sent a wave of energy crashing into the HYDRA agents, knocking them all back like rag dolls.
The hall was silent again, the agents down. Y/N turned to Steve, her heart racing, adrenaline coursing through her veins.
"You’re welcome," she snapped, her voice edged with frustration.
Steve glared at her, his blue eyes flashing with anger. "I had it under control."
Y/N let out a bitter laugh. "You had a bullet heading for your head, Rogers."
"I don’t need you to save me," he shot back, his voice low and angry.
"Could’ve fooled me," Y/N muttered, pushing past him as she continued down the corridor.
Steve followed her, clearly not ready to let it go. "You keep rushing in without thinking. One of these days, you’re going to get someone killed."
Y/N spun around, her eyes blazing with energy. "I’m not the one who nearly got my head blown off because I wanted to play it safe!"
They stood toe-to-toe, both breathing hard, the tension between them palpable. For a moment, it seemed like they might start arguing again, but instead, something else crackled in the air between them.
Y/N’s gaze flickered to Steve’s lips for a split second before she snapped her eyes back to his. She saw his eyes do the same.
Neither of them moved for what felt like an eternity.
Then, before either of them could think better of it, they were kissing.
It wasn’t gentle. It was heated, desperate, full of all the anger and frustration they’d been holding back. Y/N’s hands gripped the front of Steve’s uniform, pulling him closer, while his hands settled on her waist, holding her tightly.
For a few moments, the world around them faded away, and it was just them—no mission, no team, no arguments. Just the two of them, caught in the heat of the moment.
In a fury of teeth and heavy pants, Steve quickly swoops her up in his arms, Y/N instinctively wrapping her legs around his waist. He shoves her roughly into the wall causing a low whine to escape her lips. Steve growls lowly at the sound before nipping along her neck to invoke a similar sound. Y/N digs her fingers into Steve’s scalp, lightly pulling at the hairs there.
He returns to her lips and she wastes no time in nipping at the plush skin. He groans as she pushes herself further into him. Even in such a heated situation, they still happen to compete with each other, find something to beat the other at.
When they finally pulled apart, both breathing heavily, they stared at each other, eyes wide with the realization of what had just happened.
Steve was the first to speak, his voice hoarse. "This… doesn’t change anything."
Y/N smirked, wiping her lips with the back of her hand. "Wouldn’t dream of it."
Without another word, they continued down the corridor, but the tension between them had shifted. There was still fire there, but it wasn’t just anger anymore.
Tony's voice crackled over the comms. "Everything okay over there, lovebirds? Thought I’d check in, seeing as it’s been awfully quiet."
Y/N rolled her eyes, glancing at Steve, who looked just as irritated. "We’re fine, Stark."
"Good to know," Tony replied, a grin evident in his voice. "Because I’ve got five bucks that says Cap’s blushing right now."
Y/N bit back a laugh as Steve muttered something under his breath.
"Oh yeah," Tony added, "this is definitely gonna be fun."
After the mission, Y/N and Steve continued to bicker, but there was a new layer to their interactions—something unspoken but undeniably present. The team noticed it too, especially Tony, who never missed an opportunity to comment on the "undeniable chemistry" between them.
Natasha, however, was the only one who approached Y/N about it.
"You and Steve," she said one day during training. "It’s… interesting."
Y/N raised an eyebrow. "Interesting?"
Natasha smirked. "Let’s just say, I’ve seen this kind of tension before. It usually leads to something."
Y/N didn’t respond right away, wiping sweat from her forehead as she caught her breath. "You think it’s that obvious?"
Natasha shrugged. "Obvious to the people who know how to look."
Y/N glanced toward Steve, who was across the training room, sparring with Thor. He caught her eye for just a moment, and she quickly looked away, feeling her heart race again.
"Great," Y/N muttered under her breath. "Just what I need."
Natasha chuckled. "You’ll figure it out. Or you’ll just keep fighting until one of you gives in."
Y/N sighed. "Something tells me it’s gonna be a lot of fighting."
Natasha patted her on the shoulder, her smile amused. "Just don’t let Tony see you slip. He’s got money on this."
Y/N groaned. "Of course he does."

Ideal Peter Parker getting to full on mentor Miles Morales for me is Peter, who has been keeping his identity a secret from everyone for years, giving Miles absolutely wild advice on how to hide his identity and sounding like he’s super overthinking everything
And then Miles meets like,, Nick Fury, or someone else who really wants to know Spidey’s identity, and it turns out to all be really rational advice because there are people out there going to great lengths to find out his identity
(So yeah, sorry Miles, but you are gonna have to figure out how to manufacture your own spray paint if you wanna use any as Spidey because they will try to use that to figure out who you are)

Rumors
Tumblr media
Summary: A Russian. A cold-blooded killer. An assassin. Or at least that’s what they say about the new recruit in SHIELD. And the worst part is, Y/n will have to work with her without knowing if these rumors are true.
Pairing: Natasha Romanoff x fem!reader + platonic!Maria Hill x fem!reader
Warnings: None that I know of but if I should add anything let me know.
Word count: 3526
a/n: Y/n/l is for your last name since y'all voted for that one the most. Also this was supposed to a be a quick one shot but I kind of got carried away. (Reblogs are welcome and critiques/advice are heavily encouraged, but please no translating.)
Y/n lugs her duffle bag over her shoulder before jumping off the helicopter and feeling the adrenaline from her mission finally subside. Already going on autopilot to her bunk, she’s suddenly stopped. Y/n rubs her eyes, “Maria? What do you want? I’m trying to go to my bunk right now.” Maria holds out a file to Y/n, “Fury wants to talk mission prep with you.”
Taking the file reluctantly Y/n gives her a tight-lipped smile, “Thanks Maria.” As Y/n walked off towards Fury’s office she could hear the other woman holler, “And for the last time L/n, It's Hill. Agent Hill.” Y/n laughs out loud, “And last I checked Hill we’ve been friends way before SHIELD.”
Maria slowly follows Y/n with a grin, “Then as your friend, I should tell you that apparently you’re working with the new rookie everyone’s been talking about.” Y/n immediately stops mid-step, turning to face her friend. “Oh you’ve got to be kidding me,” Y/n groans. “I already don’t like working in teams, but a rookie who’s an emotionless assassin is crossing the line.”
Maria lets out a soft laugh at Y/n’s dramatics. “Just go talk to Fury, Y/n.” Y/n gives her a sarcastic shocked look, “Whoa whoa whoa now. I thought we were on a last-name basis, Agent Hill.”
“Stop stalling and just go Y/n/l.”
Y/n lets out a deep sigh, “Fine”
//
Finally making it to Fury's office Y/n knocks on the open door. “ Agent Y/n/l, good of you to finally join us.” Us? Y/n thinks to herself. Peering her head through the doorway she sees a woman with fiery red hair turn her head to look at her. “Agent Y/n/l stop standing around and sit your ass down.”
Sitting down, Fury clears his throat, “Before we talk about mission work we’ll talk about the elephant in the room. Agent Y/n/l, this is Agent Romanoff, you’ll be working with her on this mission. Now Y/n/l I’m sure you’ve heard plenty about Miss Romanoff, and I honestly don’t care. You two need to work that out yourselves.”
“But I don’t-” Fury cuts Y/n off. “Y/n/l, you’re doing this mission. You gotta learn to work with people.” Out of the corner of Y/n’s eye, she could see the redhead tense up slightly, grip tightening around the arms of her chair.
“Moving on, if you review your mission files you’ll see that your mission is taking place in an underground Hydra laboratory in the White River National Forest. Your goal is to take samples of a new super soldier serum Hydra is attempting to make. Then destroy the lab.”
“And what do we do with the rest of the samples and the laboratory?” This was the first time Y/n heard Romanoff’s voice, she’d heard rumors that Romanoff is Russian but the American accent caught her off guard. “You both will be given explosives with a personal detonator. The faster you get out of there the better. Are we clear on everything?”
Y/n closes her mission file getting up from her seat, “Crystal, sir.”
//
Hearing a quick knock, Y/n opens the door to her room with a yawn, “What do you want, I have a mission tomorrow can’t-” squinting her eyes she realizes it’s Maria. “I was going to ask how the meeting went, as your friend. But I feel like this is a bad time.”
With a huff and another yawn, Y/n pulls Maria into her room before flopping onto her bed. “She’s weird, Maria.” Maria sits next to her on the bed with an amused smile, “And how exactly is she weird?” Y/n throws up her arms dramatically, “She was just so quiet! It was off-putting.”
“That’s not really fair Y/n.” She sits up, “How is that not fair Maria?” Y/n could see a huge grin grow on Maria’s face and already knew what she was going to say. “Rember boot camp? Before SHIELD?” With a dramatic whine, Y/n quickly flopped back down on her back, “I knew it! I knew you were gonna bring this up.”
“It’s a valid thing to bring up, Y/n!” Maria tries to shake her arm to get her attention which results in a quick scowl. “Don’t look at me like that, you know I’m right. You didn’t talk a lot or have a lot of friends then. Now you have me and I can’t get you to shut up.”
“Ha ha Maria. But how is that supposed to help me?” Maria lets out a stressed sigh. “Do I really need to spell it out for you?” Y/n shrugs, “Yeah, please. I’m tired, and I have to wake up early tomorrow.”
“Just try not to treat her like everyone else does. Be nice to her.” Rubbing her face into her pillow, she closes her eyes and lets out a soft, “Okay.”
//
The loud rumble of the helicopter was muted by the headsets Y/n, Romanoff, and the pilot wore. Looking down at the view through her window Y/n could see small flakes start to quickly pile up on the trees below her. “Hey, are you sure it’s safe to fly in these conditions? It’s starting to snow pretty hard.”
The pilot presses on her own headset, “Shouldn’t become a problem as long as there’s no delays, Y/n/l.” With a quick sigh, Y/n presses on her comms headset again, “Copy that Agent May.” It takes another irritatingly quiet silence to land a safe distance from the Hydra base.
After everyone takes off their headsets one by one, Agent May pulls out a tablet with an overview of the base. Turning to face the two she gestures to the defenses of the base. “About half a mile from here is the south entrance, which is closest to the ramp leading to the lab you need to go to. The lab is the most heavily guarded part of the base, so be prepared for that.”
The two quickly nod, slinging the supplies in their duffle bags over their shoulders and trudging through the snow as the helicopter started to lift up into the sky again. Making their way to the entrance, two soldiers guarding the front immediately started firing at the two agents.
Reaching for her sidearm, Y/n manages to shoot one in the shoulder while matching Romanoff’s sprinting pace. On the other hand, Romanoff manages to hit the other guard with a blast from one of her wrist tasers, then sliding on one leg sweeping the guard off his feet. Examining one of the guards' bodies, Y/n pulls off their ID card.
Moving slower and quieter, the two make their way to the ramp leading to the lab– the entrance only being a large cement wall and a steel door with, as predicted, an ID scanner beside it. Y/n begins sliding the ID card but pauses, looking over to Romanoff. “Do you have anything besides those taser things?”
Romanoff pulls out her own sidearm and holsters it, "I’ll be fine Agent Y/n/l.” Sliding the card the rest of the way, the two agents are met with seven guards on the other side of the door. Three on each wall of the narrow hallway and one last extra burly soldier in front of the last door that leads to the laboratory.
One of the soldiers smirks, inching closer to the two and slowly raising his rifle. “Now who let you pretty ladies wander down here?” Immediately Romanoff taps something on her wrist, sending the man into a greater electric shock than the last. Romanoff looks down at him, “We let ourselves in.”
“We?” Y/n asks with a smile, following her lead shooting at the guards.
“That’s what I said,” Romanoff replies plainly as she picks up the rifle the soldier dropped, shooting at the other guards.
Now the only one left is the burly guard who started charging for Y/n. Trying to shoot at him, Y/n’s gun only makes a clicking noise. “I’m ou-'' Before Y/n can even finish her sentence Romanoff taps her wrist again, shooting the man which causes him to immediately fall to his knees and land flat on his face.
Finally taking a moment to breathe, Y/n feels a sharp pain in her shoulder, touching the most painful part and feeling blood. Romanoff looks at her with somewhat of a false calm look, “You okay to keep going?” Y/n nods painfully, “Yeah, yeah. The padding took most of the hit. Just a flesh wound.”
Giving Y/n a hesitant look for a moment she moves forward toward the lab, Y/n following suit. Opening the lab door the two are met with a mess of a lab and an obviously panicking scientist. She immediately breaks a glass beaker, lunging at Romanoff. “Y/n grab the vials!” is the last thing Y/n hears before Romanoff starts wrestling the other woman on the ground.
Searching the tables of the lab, there’s no visible sign of the Hydra super soldier serum. “Agent Romanoff, there’s nothing here.” Romanoff manages to straddle the scientist, slowly inching the broken beaker towards her. “Well then keep looking!”
“I will not have my work seized by some spy scum!” The scientist manages to flip Romanoff over, inching the broken glass closer to her chest. “Romanoff! Catch!” Y/n slides a large sharp piece of glass towards the other woman before getting back to looking for the serum.
With the new shard of glass, Romanoff manages to toss the other woman to the side, stabbing her. But in the process of doing so getting stabbed herself.
“Romanoff! I found some vials! We need to plant the bombs and go-” her voice goes quiet as she notices the wound- “right now. Shit.” Romanoff pulls the glass out of her side, putting pressure on her wound. She grits, “Plant the bombs first, worry about me after, Y/n/l.”
For a second she hesitates wanting to help her, but ultimately she listens to Romanoff’s instincts. Shoving the samples in her pocket, Y/n takes off her duffle bag and begins unloading the explosives. Four explosives, one for each corner of the lab– ensuring that everything is destroyed.
Lugging her bag over her shoulder, Y/n pulls Romanoff off the ground before swinging the agent’s arm over her uninjured shoulder. Hobbling out of the lab, Romanoff groans in pain, “Y’know you don’t need to do this. I can walk fine on my own.”
Y/n manages to let out a pained laugh, “Save your energy and stop complaining, Romanoff.”
Managing to get out of the laboratory is one thing, waiting for extraction will be another thing. Sliding against the cement wall, both Y/n and Romanoff sit down. Looking out in the distance Y/n noticed the snow, there was so much more of it compared to when they first landed.
Pulling out her phone, she called her last resort, Fury.
“Come on, pick up, pick up.”
“Miss Y/n/l, I was just about to call you.”
“Don’t Miss Y/n/l me Fury, where’s extraction?”
“As I was saying Agent Y/n/l, I was about to message you stating that because of an incoming blizzard, it isn’t safe to bring extraction to you. But there’s a SHIELD-owned cabin that Hydra doesn’t know about 2 miles West of your drop-off point. I suggest you start heading there.”
Not having the composure to reply to anything Fury said Y/n just hangs up on him. “Romanoff. Come on, we gotta start walking. Fury said there’s a place we can stay for a bit.” Y/n was met with no reply. Slapping the redhead’s cheek lightly a few times wakes her up. “Good, I can’t have you falling asleep on me Romanoff. Let’s go!”
“The bombs Y/n/l,” Romanoff nearly whispers. “What?” Y/n asks more focused on making it to the cabin. “The bombs,” Romanoff says louder one more time. “Shit, you’re right.” Y/n immediately comes to a stop, nearly causing Romanoff to trip. But with the bomb being set off they needed to move fast.
//
“In SHIELD training there’s similar exercises to walking long distances with partners. What they don’t account for is the snow, injuries, and trees! So many damn trees. I don’t know why I’m rambling, you've probably gone through SHIELD academy.”
Romanoff hisses in pain, “I haven’t, and you can stop complaining about the trees-we’re here.” The outside of the cabin looks practically abandoned, with the paint peeling and wood rotting. When touching the rusted handle though, an automated voice appeared. “Access granted. Welcome Y/n Y/n/l.”
Unlike the outside of the cabin, the inside looked nice. It wasn’t luxurious looking but it worked. And most importantly, there was a fireplace. Easing Romanoff onto a nearby chair gave Y/n a moment to look through the drawers of the cabin. “Matches! Finally.”
Flicking a lit match into the pre-placed pile of wood in the fireplace, Y/n starts rummaging through her duffle bag, grabbing a first aid kit and kneeling in front of the other woman. “Okay, Romanoff this is gonna sound super weird but I’m gonna need you to unzip your jumpsuit.”
“I- It’s too cold.” Y/n stands up, wrapping one of Romanoff’s arms over her shoulder once more. “We are going to sit on the floor in front of the fireplace then, because I can’t have you dying on me here.”
Y/n eased Romanoff on the floor, quickly sitting in front of her looking for the right supplies. “Your shoulder.”
“What about my shoulder Romanoff?”
“You’re bleeding through your jacket Y/n/l.” Y/n shrug,s finally pulling out the right supplies from the first aid kit. “I told you already. I’m fine.” Y/n flashes a quick smile, “Now you need to unzip that jumpsuit so you can stop bleeding. Please.”
With a painful groan, she unzips the jumpsuit, revealing a black sports bra and a nasty wound not so far below it before tying the upper part of her jumpsuit to her waist. “Okay, you shouldn’t need that many stitches. Can you lean back a bit?”
Leaning back, Romanoff could already feel the sharp sting of alcohol. She was in pain, but trying to hide it. “You wanna talk?” Y/n asked, managing to keep her focus on cleaning the wound. “What do you mean talk?” Y/n shrugs, not breaking her focus, “Anything,” she glances up at the redhead. “It usually helps me forget about what’s happening.”
Romanoff lets out a dry chuckle, “I don’t think I’m in a talking mood.”
“What if I ask questions and you just answer them? It’s less effort,” Y/n grins. “And it’s the least you could do for me after I dragged you for two miles in a snowy forest.”
“I told you I could walk fine on my own.”
“Yet you didn’t bother to stop me once on the way here.” Romanoff lets out a deep annoyed sigh, “Fine. Only five questions though.” Y/n glances up at her one more time with a subtle smile, “Deal. First question, what’s your name? In situations like these, I usually like to be on a first-name basis.”
“It’s Natasha, Romanoff.” Y/n pauses immediately, before tossing a cotton ball to the side with a playful smile plastered across her face. “Can I call you Nat then?” Natasha cracks a genuine half smile with Y/n’s being too infectious. “We’ll see, but that does count as one of your questions.”
“All right, all right, fine.” Y/n continues cleaning the wound. “So, third question, your accent, is it real?”
“No, but I’m sure it’ll become real over time.” Starting the first stitch Natasha winces, but Y/n just keeps talking. “So if you fake your accent, is that why you don’t talk a lot? So you don’t slip up.”
“I’m not afraid of slipping up. I think it makes things less complicated. Less questions are asked, usually.” Y/n slips out a loud sarcastic laugh finishing the second stitch. “Wow! I think you just made a joke!” Natasha smiles to herself, “I think I did. But you’re on to your last question.”
“Okay, why did you join SHIELD?” Y/n can see Natasha bite the inside of her cheek, regretting the question. “You don’t have to answer or anything I can-” Natasha stops her, “No, no it’s fine. Um, long story short I was part of the red room. Then I met a guy who gave me an opportunity to clear some red from my ledger and take down the red room. So I took it.”
“Have you thought of reclaiming the title Black Widow then? Maybe clear the red of the title itself, make it something good?” Natasha gives Y/n a mock shocked look, “I thought you agreed to just five questions?” Y/n shrugs with a smug grin, “I mean I finished up when you were talking about clearing your ledger. I figured I might be able to sneak one more in.”
“How about this, you take that jacket off and let me look at your shoulder that’s ‘just fine,’ then I might answer it.” Y/n collects all the bloody materials used to clean up Natasha’s wound, throwing them away. “And I told you it was just a flesh wound, Nat. I’m okay.”
“And flesh wounds still should be disinfected Y/n, sit down.” With a loud reluctant sigh, Y/n sits in front of her, unzipping her jacket and exposing the bloody shoulder with a small hole made by the bullet. After leaning back a little, Natasha Immediately starts cleaning the surrounding area of the bullet wound.
“What about you?” Natasha asks as she continues cleaning the wound. “What about me?” Instead of avoiding eye contact this time, Y/n keeps her eyes on Natasha. “Why did you join SHIELD?” Y/n smiles, “No, nope. You didn’t answer my question first.”
“Fine, I’ve thought of it. Now what about-” Natasha quickly pulls out the bullet in Y/n with tweezers, “you.” Y/n yelps in pain pressing a hand against her shoulder for a moment before letting Natasha get back to work. “Okay, next time give me a warning.” Natasha grins to herself, “You should hope there isn’t a next time.”
“You knew what I meant. Anyways, when it comes to your question I joined SHIELD because my best friend did. Before SHIELD her and I, Maria, we served as Marines together. But Fury realized could do more, be more if we joined SHIELD. And she saved me enough times back then for me to trust her.”
“Do you trust me?”
“Considering you are finishing patching up the shoulder I got shot in, I'd say yes. Not with my life though, yet.”
“Do you plan to trust me with your life?”
“I don’t see why not. Having just one person to trust like that is limiting.”
“Trusting me like that is dangerous though.”
“Sometimes you need to live life a little dangerously.”
//
“That was a good debrief Romanoff, although I think you could have left out the part about me complaining about the trees.” Natasha grins, “Maybe don’t complain about trees the next time we’re in a forest then Y/n/l.”
As Natasha starts to walk off to her bunk Y/n stops her, “Nat, wait.” Natasha has a faint smile visible on her lip. “Did you need something Y/n?”
“Not really, I was just wondering if you wanted to maybe train together sometime. You could even teach me that leg sweep move you did.” Natasha crosses her arms looking Y/n up and down for a second. “Yeah, we could do that. Just prepare to fall a lot.”
“Am I interrupting something?” Both women jump a little, Y/n specifically turning around to see who it is. “Oh! Maria! Ehm um, I mean Agent Hill. Did you need something?” Natasha starts backing away, “I think I’ll leave you two to whatever is going on.”
“Okay, I’ll talk more about that move tonight?” Natasha smiles, “Yeah. That works.” As Natasha walks out of earshot Maria immediately starts giggling. "I told you to be nice to her Y/n/l, but not that nice." Y/n looks at Maria with a slight blush coming onto her face. "Wait, what do you mean by that?"
Maria shrugs with a suggestive smile on her face, "Y'know what forget that, how'd the mission go." Y/n smiles bashfully, "Uh it was good, it went really well actually."
"You like her don't you?"
"W-what no. It's not like that." Maria smiles knowingly, "Oh it totally is like that." Y/n slaps Maria’s arm in embarrassment, "Shut up."
"For what it's worth," Maria glances over Y/n's shoulder, "it looks like she likes you too."

Chapter One: A Piece of Paper
Tumblr media
The Farmer's Daughter - (A WandaNat Story)
Masterlist
Summary: Free of the military, Natasha Romanoff leaves with no destination in mind.
Word Count: 1K
Content: Just fluff, Clint being a dad,
Tumblr media
"You know you didn't have to come all the way down here for this? We would've mailed it."
Natasha Romanoff walks up to the base commander's desk and takes a piece of paper from his right hand.
"Yeah, I did." She smirked before bringing her green eyes up from the piece of paper to Nicolas Fury's one eye. He smiles. "The second the paper hits your hand, and I'm no longer called Sir?"
Natasha straightens her body out and slams her legs together before saluting Fury. "Sir, yes, sir."
Fury stands up from his old wooden wheelie chair and salutes his favorite soldier. "At ease." Natasha's hand fly down to her side. Nicolas watched and smiled once again. "I'm gonna miss you, Romanoff." He sticks his hand out.
Natasha looks down in shock.
A handshake from Nick Fury was rare.
But she should've expected it, especially on her last day. After all, he was a father figure in some small way to her.
Whether she'd ever believe it or not.
Her hand met his in the middle. "You too, Sir. It's been an honor to serve my country with leaders like you." Fury rolls his eye at that.
"You didn't serve no country." He said, making Natasha tilt her head. "Sir?" Their hands separated. "What you did was save your brothers and sisters. Anyone could've done what you did. Anyone could've been the Grenadier or Lancer. The second in command. Yet your squad would be lesser because of it. No one could ever be you, Romanoff." He looked Natasha up and down as she wore her uniform for the final time. He gave a smile that turned sad. "Even if it costed you."
Natasha gave a flat smile and nodded. Her body was scarred physically and mentally. Her eyes found the paper in her left hand again. "Well, according to this, my work was honorable."
Fury laughed. "Yes, it fucking was." Natasha laughed as Fury came around his desk. "Come on. Let's get you going."
As Natasha and Fury walked out from his office on base, they were stopped multiple times for goodbyes and salutes.
This was all bittersweet to Natasha as this was all she had ever known for the last eight plus years. But this was the next step for her. Her body and mind knew it, and she needed to live for herself for once. So, as she walked up to the exit gate with glossy eyes, she saw her best friend, Clint Barton.
"Bout time they kicked you out." He joked with a huge smile as his eyes drifted to the man next to Natasha. "Sir," he stood up and saluted. Fury dismissed him and stepped back to let the two have their moment.
Natasha shook her head to Clint. "Wasn't too sure they would." Clint smiled. "Seemed to think so last night." Natasha's smile slightly faded as she remembered how she and Clint spoke about the bare future Natasha had planned for herself. She has no solid family anymore. No real home. No friends outside of the base that she still spoke to regularly. But she told Clint that this was right. Her leaving now was better than her dying overseas. "Yeah..." She nodded as she picked up her brown leather duffle bag that rested by his feet. "Thanks for watching this."
Clint noticed the way her body expression changed.
His skills outside of combat were just as worthy of the nickname given to him by his peers: Hawkeye.
"Come here." The man opened his arms and wrapped them around Natasha as her head hit his shoulder. She accepted the hug and didn't cry as she let him go for however long it would be until she saw him again.
"Oh, by the way!" Clint changed the topic after another minute of small talk. "I had Hill bring your bike around." Natasha's eyes looked to where Clint pointed, and her cheeks lifted from her smile. "Don't have to Uber to a motel or wherever the hell you're going since you don't wanna stay with Laura and the kids." Natasha shook her head. Clint had a wife and two kids.
"Yeah, Fury and I had Hill take her in to get repairs and whatever else needed to be done. I mean, jeez Nat, it's been like three years, four years, since you last rode it?"
"Two tours ago." Natasha looked back and answered. "Damn," Clint mumbled as Natasha looked back to the bike. "Thank you." She spoke before turning to Fury. "Thank you, too." He waved her off. "You thank me for anything, and I'll tear up that paper in your hands." Clint laughed, and Natasha rolled her eyes and turned around.
"Keys in the seat?" She asked Clint. "Just like in Budapest."
Natasha didn't look amused. "Next time I see you, please say it right." Clint laughed as he and Fury watched Natasha walk away without another goodbye. "Yeah, I'll make sure of that when you make it a mile on that bike. It's been four years, Nat!" He spoke louder as Natasha was further away.
She shrugged and flipped the seat up to reveal her keys before grabbing the helmet off the handlebars. "Can't be that hard." She yelled back as her legs wrapped around the brown seat.
"And why is that?" Clint's question was muffled in her helmet. But she turned towards him as the key went into the ignition.
"Because it's just like riding a bike." She pulled her visor down and pushed the red button, making herself scarce before Clint could argue back.
"Budapesht." He mumbled.

it's not your fault.
pairings: carol danver x fury!reader
genre: angst + some fluff
Tumblr media
you're standing in the compound with your arms crossed. your mind is racing. it won't stop.
you can't stop picturing it all. the ash blowing in the wind. the screams and cries for help. so many people that just...vanished. and your father was one of them.
"where's fury?" the voice broke you from your haze. you turned around slowly, meeting the soft brown eyes of captain marvel herself.
you'd never personally met her and your father hardly ever mentioned her, so seeing her standing two feet away from you was a bit of a shock.
she was beautiful.
natasha spoke for you, knowing you were having a hard time. "he's gone. with the rest of them," she assumed carol knew what she meant. everyone knew.
there wasn't a single person in this room who hadn't lost someone. carol blinked back tears and took a deep breath, "what can i do?"
she seemed determined to help. to try and fix it somehow. you turned back towards the hologram of your father with a sullen expression.
you knew there was nothing she could do. he was gone. the man that raised you and trained you and taught you to be the strong, courageous woman you were today.
at some point everyone had left the room. everyone except carol. you were stunned to see her standing so close, you must've dissociated for a moment.
"how did you know him?" she asked, eyes on his pixelated face. you furrowed your brows and cleared throat before speaking, "he's my dad."
her head snapped in your direction and her mouth hung open ever so slightly in disbelief, "i didn't know fury had a daughter."
you laughed half heartedly, "yup. he was a very secretive man, wasn't he?"
she nodded, trying to wrap her mind around the situation still.
"i just can't believe he's gone," your voice broke and unwanted tears poured down your cheeks.
carol didn't know what to do. she wasn't the best at comforting people or even dealing with her own emotions.
"i'm sorry," you said as you wiped away at your face. she shook her head and suddenly it came naturally.
she wrapped her arms around you and held you tightly against her. "hey, it's not your fault." she whispered, which only made you cry harder.
you felt like a disappointment. your father was dead and there was nothing you could do to save him. bullshit. you didn't even try.
she stroked the back of your head carefully, "it's going to be okay." you sniffled and pulled away from the hug.
"do you know what the last thing i said to him was?" carol waited, understanding that the question was more rhetorical. "i told him that he was a selfish man. that he was more concerned about being director of shield than he ever was my father," you confessed.
carol still had her hands on your shoulders as if it was the only thing keeping you stable.
"and is that true?" she asked. you looked down, "it doesn't matter. i was angry and i didn't mean it. and had i known-" you paused to keep the tears from coming back up.
carol cupped your face in her hands and made you look her in the eye. "listen to me." you looked up at her. "i will get him back. i promise."
and maybe it was your desperation for any sign of hope or the ever so authoritative and optimistic way she said it, but you believed her.

Nightmare
Tumblr media
Agent Maria Hill x GN! Reader
Warnings : Fluff. Angst.
18+ MINORS DNI
It was extremely early in the morning when Y/N was trying their hardest to get ready for their mission quietly, not wanting to disturb a sleeping Maria.
Y/N was the head of an Elite Military Squad who worked alongside SHIELD on occasion. Especially since they had joined the military as they graduated high school. Meeting Maria on their excavation of New York. Helping out with the local police force as the Avengers tackled Loki and closed the portal.
"Y/N?" Maria slurred sleepily as Y/N took a deep breath, fastening their boots as they sat at the edge of the bed.
"Go back to sleep baby." Y/N cooed as Maria sat forward, wrapping her arms around Y/N and hugging them from behind.
"You know I like saying goodbye to you." Maria whispered as she kissed their neck, making them smile at the term of endearment.
"I just thought maybe this once you could miss it." They chuckled as Maria shook her head no.
"You know why I do it." Maria mumbled as Y/N sighed.
"I will be home in a few days." They told her as she just nodded, releasing them from her grip. "I love you Maria." They kissed her softly before they stopped in the doorway.
"I love you too Y/N." She whispered as she watched them disappear. Afraid to fall asleep as the nightmares would come forth and she can't deal with them. So after hours of contemplating, she decided to get ready and head into SHIELD HQ.
"You're not supposed to be in today Hill." Fury told her as she gave him a nod.
"I just want to keep tabs on something." She told him as he smiled.
"Elite Squad." He stated as she nodded, he then beckoned for her to follow into the room, seeing the body cam footage of each of the members of the squad. Hearing the gunshots, screams and shouts of the people in the surrounding area. "They are approaching the main building. Hopefully they will catch Azabi without a hitch."
"Doesn't he have ties with Hydra?" Maria asked him as he nodded.
"We are tying up all of Hydra's known associates. Making sure they can never rise again." Fury told her as her eyes remained on the screen.
"We need to breach." She heard her partner's voice through the speakers. Watching as one of them planted C4 on the door before they all took cover. Watching as the explosion rang through the air as the door flew off the hinges. Shots being fired from beyond the door at the squad, luckily they had managed to find adequate cover to provide fire of their own.
"Cover fire." She heard another voice, she recognised him being Y/N's best friend, Tim. Watching as Y/N was the first one to run through the doors.
It felt like hours until they reached Azabi. Seeing him in a room on his own and a smirk on his face.
"Do you really think this is the end?" He sneered as the other two cuffed him.
"For you? Yes." Y/N stated as they moved out. "We've got the package. Heading to the rendevous point."
The gun fire continued as more of Azabi's loyal followers came to his aid. Y/N and Tim being those at the front of the group as they provided gunfire. Shooting their way through until they were clear.
"We're 5 clicks out." Y/N spoke as the two moved to the back. Making sure their was no followers behind them. The sound of the chopper filled the desert, taking their attention from the roaring engines that were approaching. "Tim!" Y/N yelled as they ran towards him. Azabi already on the chopper as the other's provided cover fire.
"You should leave." Tim told them as they shook their head no.
"Never leave a man behind, and I won't lose my best friend." They groaned as they helped him to his feet. "Beside's you have a baby on the way." Y/N struggled as the shots were being fired from each way. Completely ignoring the bullet that tore it's way through their back. With some help, they managed to get Tim on the chopper before climbing on themselves. Y/N smiled as Tim was getting checked out by the medic on the team as they soon started to feel the pain.
"Y/N?" Tim questioned as he watched them. Maria's heart dropped at the sight of them. They were pale and sweaty. "Y/N?" He tried firmer as Y/N shook their head.
"I'm ok. Probably just a scratch right." They smiled as Tim watched them with worried eyes.
"Check them out." Tim ordered their teammate.
"But you." He tried as Tim shoved him towards Y/N.
"I said check them out." Tim ordered as the medic nodded and reluctantly went to Y/N. "I won't lose my best friend." It wasn't until they started to cough up some blood.
"I need to see Maria." They whispered as Maria grabbed one of the headsets that were already patched through to the team.
"I'm here Y/N." She spoke frantically, they smiled at the sound of her voice.
"You should be home resting. Or with Nat." They told her as the two of them chuckled. "I'm not going to make it." They told her as she shook her head as she held in a sob.
"Yes you are." She told them sternly as they groaned. The medic trying to stop the bleeding.
"I'm not." Their breaths becoming labored as their lungs filled with blood. "I won't make it back to base."
"Please." Maria begged as Y/N coughed uncontrollably.
"I love you Ria." They told her. Using her old nickname.
"I love you more doofus." She cried as she watched Y/N smile as they took their last breaths. The headset falling from her as she rose to her feet. Heading out of the room with Fury on her heels.
"Hill!" He called after her as she just carried on walking. Somehow making her way home and to their room. Picking up the shirt they had removed in the early hours of the morning as she held it to their nose. Her heart beating painfully in her chest as she ached for their comforting arms around her.
--------
Maria woke to a start, a cold sweat dripping down her body. Looking to see their side of the bed empty. Her eyes soon heading to the sound of the toilet flushing and then the tap running.
"Are you ok Ria?" Y/N asked her as she nodded as she took a deep breath. "Nightmare?"
"I watched you die." She whispered as they wrapped their arms around her.
"I'm still here." They told her as she held onto them like her life depended on it. Her hands soon finding the scar.
Since the mission, Y/N had retired to SHIELD HQ, helping with training the new recruits. Especially since Maria was so close to losing them on their last mission. Hell she thought she did lose them on that last mission. But they were lucky to head to the base just in time to get treated and saved. Although the coma and the wait was agonising for Maria, but right now she couldn't be happier. Being in the arms of the love of her life. Hearing their steady heartbeat and feeling their warmth.

Dad of the year right here.
His kitten daughter being in danger activates his Papa Bear Fury.
(Apologies for the bad quality and the cutoff of the sound at the end, Tumblr insists on having them both no matter what I do)

Fury, interviewing them to become a S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent: So, you wanna tell me why you have ‘stole a police cruiser’ on your criminal record?

Y/n: Hey Nick!
Fury interrupting you: Fury.
Y/n: Yeah, we... already met, I know who you are..?

Bucky Barnes x Reader
So I'm still living in the 2012-2015 fan fic era where all the avengers lived together and worked together and Bucky was still new to the team.
This is the beginning of a fic that I've wanted to write for a while, Im kinda posting it to see if anyone would actually be interested in a full fic
Bucky entered the briefing room, practically everyone was already there, staying close to the back wall. He was still apprehensive about being part of a team, still worried he would hurt someone, so it was better for him to stand, rather than sit at the table. They hadn't even let him on a mission yet, so a part of him was ready to retreat back to the room he was provided, but he didn't, it was important to show a willingness. The main five were chatting idly, along with a few of the others - he wasn't caught up yet on who was an avenger and who was just working for SHIELD.
Steve caught his gaze, nodding in a hello, then went back to talking with Tony. He was still wary - no that's not the word - he was careful around Bucky. Clearly not wanting to offend him, either with memories he didn't remember or his sad puppy eyes.
Widow entered the room and followed his movements, she was closer to the left door. At least they had an unspoken bond - if you could call trauma a bonding experience. Her eyes scanned the room and she left the wall, walking towards Barton and his free chair. They immediately engaged in a hot debate, furiously signing at each other. Bucky was alone on the wall again, but he didn't have time to wallow as Fury made a quick entrance.
"Get the lights." He spoke to anyone, the lights were dimmed and the screen he was standing in front of illuminated. "This is not your usual briefing." The screen showed a muted video of a girl, she was sitting at her desk and waving a USB.
"You showing us an unboxing video?"
"I wish it was that, Stark." Fury pulled up another screen, this one had a few different maps, each showing a target. "This YouTuber 'cutezieppoozie' found something that she was never meant to find." Bucky watched as the girl plugged in the USB, rookie move, who plugs something they don't know into their computer? "She says in this her aunt used to work for the government and had an accident at work, she then shows us this video. We've had to take it down."
The volume was turned up as the video came on. It was shoddy and shaky and clearly a violation of whatever contract had been signed. Dingy cells, some with crooked bars, some with oxygen proof doors. It was dark making it hard to differentiate between shadow and objects. The camera then showed the rigorous training of what looked like a small girl. She could teleport or 'phase' through those she was fighting. The clip ended abruptly and there were a few bloodied hospital beds, the new clip was filmed portrait as if she was hiding the camera. The beds held different people, there were two clearly familiar faces. The twins both looked weak. There was then someone familiar only to Bucky but he didn't know why, it was a big muscled man, he had most likely fought the man. Then, the video was of a woman that looked similar to 'cutezieppoozie', she had the same hair and eyes, she was sitting in a cupboard, looking worried. The woman spoke about how there were monstrous experiments going on and that she won't be a part of it. She says that she'll pass the camera on to another person and that is how she can prove she is serious.
You popped up, causing a few gasps - he almost joined in, he knew you. There was a point where you and he were neighbours in your cages. He was violent and cruel and you were nice. You offered friendship and when he was bleeding you helped him through the bars. You may have been the reason he was still here as being a Winter Soldier he was usually the punching bag for new recruits.
Your hair was matted and your skin sunken but your voice was just the same. "Fury, I need you. We're currently located in Sokovia, there are other bases - they move us around a lot. The Widows and Soldiers usually stay in Russia but a few have been left here for training purposes. They're making weapons, we have ghosts and witches and men that can move metal, men that are made of metal, beasts, hulks." A noise made you turn back, your hand covering the camera.
The aunt was back, telling the locations of each base, each correlating to one of Fury's maps. She then signs off by saying she hopes this finds the right people.
Fury pulls up a digital file of you and your SHIELD work. Your photo was pristine, your face beautiful (with or without makeup - he wasn't sure), your hair was cropped in a bob cut, your shoulders were meaty with muscles too. You looked amazing, he felt bad thinking of that but you did.
"Now the footage is old, I see apprehensive faces but we've managed to identify some bases that we never would have before because of this. This is an essential mission, disregarding (L/N), if there are more weapons, more soldiers, we need to neutralise them."
Fury was allocating team members to each location, a few new ones were added since some had already been liberated. Bucky left the wall, taking a few steps closer to the action, Fury's eye flickered up to him and back down again.
"Barnes, I want you in the field, too." Bucky schooled his features and nodded. "You'll go to Tiksi, there's a lot of ground there to cover. Falcon will meet you there."
"I can't believe she could be alive." Barton shook his head in disbelief.
"I can't believe you stopped looking." Wanda countered, crossing her arms.
"There were bigger fights." Banner defended, he picked up a pack and had a look through it. "Wouldn't you want me away from civilization? You've put me in Egypt."
"We want Banner not Hulk." Fury shrugged, "need your brains on this one."
The others lost themselves in conversation and Steve happened to find himself next to Bucky. "You're out on the field for this one." He commented.
"Yeah."
There was a long awkward pause before they both spoke at the same time.
"Be careful?"
"I recognised her."
Steve's eyes widened before he whisper-yelled, "What?"
"We were in the same cells." Bucky shrugged. "Or maybe I'd just seen her picture, I don't know."
"Are the memories from you?" Bucky shook his head once. "Maybe you should sit this one out, then." The frown on Bucky's face made Steve carry on, "I just mean that she may drag up old memories she doesn't mean to."
"I'm fine." And with that Bucky left the briefing.
