SAXON - Hell, Fire And Damnation
Arch !

Same day, two different's Saxon albums
February 4th is a special day in Saxon’s history. Two albums were released on the same day, and I decided to put them together in one article. One released in 1991 and the other in 2022. Solid Ball Of Rock marks Nibbs Carter’s debut on bass on a studio album, a studio album as Nibbs Carter had joined Saxon during remplacing Paul Johnson. Solid Ball Of Rock would attempt to return Saxon to…

have a list of some of my favourite bassists for no other reason than ✨bass✨
Sting (The Police) - I've always loved him anyway but his basslines are iconic and finding out he's that bassist is actually my fave thing
Nikki Sixx (Mötley Crüe) - I think bass and then I'm like nikki, also his bass solo in '81 (I think?), anyways I wanna learn it so bad
Duff Mckagan (Guns N Roses) - giraffe man :) he was the first bassist I knew the name of lmaoo, also you should read his tips for bassists interview thing
Lemmy (Mötorhead) - what can I say other than he was such an icon and he is god :) no but he was such a great front man and bassist and we love him
Alec John Such (Bon Jovi) - he made some of my all time favourite songs, he was just such a cool dude like
Cliff Williams (AC/DC) - providing the basslines of my childhood, I think he was so overlooked and he provided a lot of the bands signature sound
Steve Harris (Iron Maiden) - he brings the whole vibe to the majority of their songs like he kinda borders on rhythm guitarist but produces some iconic basslines
Nibbs Carter (Saxon) - I think the bass is most of the bands sound and it's always quite distinct in the back, keeping everyone time

Friday, April 22: Saxon, “Running for the Border”
Coming after 5 consistently enjoyable records that righted the ship for Saxon, Killing Ground was a bit of a disappointment. There was nothing really wrong with the record per se, as it maintained the sound and approach the band settled on a decade prior, but the flipside to delivering with such consistency over an extended run was that even a slight dip in quality would be noticeable and color perceptions. And there was indeed a slight dip in quality, as the frequency of the band’s output (a new record every couple years) was bound to lead to wearout. But the key word here was slight, since Killing Ground still had plenty to offer: “Running for the Border” was a swaggering rocker that merged the grooving biker metal of Saxon’s early days with their more recent penchant for power metal, and Biff Byford’s ageless whine remained charming and uniquely his own. This was the sort of track one could imagine Saxon jamming through together in a rehearsal room, and the warm production enhanced that feeling despite being perfectly balanced. It wasn’t necessarily great that “Running for the Border” was exactly what Saxon had offered in the past and nothing more, but then again, it couldn’t have possibly come from anyone else.
