Reccer says: Somehow it feels like 100k fic when it's only 5 - there's so much emotion and story packed in. Absolutely beautifully written, too.

Reccer says: Fascinating story with great tension and well executed surprises. Great worldbuilding! This was probably my favorite fic from 2023. I love love love sci-fi, and this was brilliant and mysterious and creepy and I am absolutely holding out hope that the author will write a longer au of this world.

After posting and sharing their baby news that they had been hiding for a few weeks, the fans and what felt like the whole world went crazy because Harry Styles and YN Tomlinson was having a baby!

Harry Styles and YN Tomlinson announce they’re expecting their first child

The news we have all been waiting for!

YN Tomlinson has announced she is pregnant with her first child with fiancé Harry Styles.

YN shared her pregnancy news on Instagram with a photo. The photo was of her cradling her baby bump and laughing, whilst Harry is kissing her bump.

YN captioned the post "Christmas came early 👶🏻🤍".

29-year-old YN is the younger sister of One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson. She is an influencer with over 8 million followers and the owner of the clothing brand Styles Fashion.

YN and Harry first began dating in September 2011. Their relationship was exposed after the One Direction star was seen kissing his bandmates sister at a friends party.

The couple are childhood sweethearts, after being together 12 years. The pair split briefly in early 2018 but confirmed their reconciliation in December 2018, when YN posted a photo of them at her family home in Doncaster.

Louis commented on the pregnancy post “Absolutely buzzing!!!”. Many other family members of the couple were quick to share their congratulations with Anne Twist, Harry's Mum, commenting “Congratulations my babies ❤️ I can't wait to meet your precious baby xx” and Niall Horan commenting “Congratulations again guys!! So happy for you x”.

Both, YN and Harry were bombarded with messages of congratulations but thousands of questions about their pregnancy. So YN decided an Instagram live was the best way to answer the burning questions. 

Clicking the Live button on the app, notified YN’s followers. YN balanced her phone against the vase that sat in the middle of their kitchen island, before she took a seat on the stool, one of their Christmas trees sat  in the background. 

“Hi everyone!” YN spoke to those who had joined her live. “A lot of you have been asking me questions about the baby...and pregnancy and stuff...so I thought we'd come on here answer them.".

YN nodded "Uh yeah...we didn't actually find out I was pregnant until I was fourteen weeks." YN began to explain. "But before that I just wanted to sleep...I had a lot of headaches and a bit of nausea too.".

Harry began to laugh as he spotted the Irish lad's name. "Niall's here.".

"Niall!" YN got excited that Niall was watching the live. "Guys...Niall thinks he's going to be the favourite Uncle!".

Harry pouted his lips as he thought. "Uh..I'd definitely like two children.".

"Two?". YN questioned, before adding her own thoughts. "I'd have like five!".

"Five?". Harry's head shot quickly in shock.

YN shrugged her shoulders. "Bubs..I literally have seven siblings...I like the choas of having a big family."

"Their reactions were just the best." YN explained, as she thought about a few weeks ago when they shared the news. "Louis has already bought three outfits for the baby...I think he's excited because he sends me photos of baby stuff all the time".

"My Mum cried...happy tears" Harry spoke. "And Gemma literally texts me everyday saying 'how's my favourite baby'".

"Lottie screamed...Daisy and Phoebe were in shock." YN let out a giggle. "But their super happy...Daisy's loving auntie life.".

YN stood from her seat. "I do have a little bump." Harry placed his hand on YN's tummy, something that had become a habit. "But I'm at the stage where people are trying to guess if I'm pregnant or just eaten too much.".

Harry placed a kiss to YN's bump as she still stood, reading through the comments. YN let out a loud chuckle, causing Harry to look at her with a smirk at what had tickled her so much. "Someone commented saying..Harry we need a Kiwi part two".

A cheeky grin covered Harry's face. "Guys..if I'm gonna make a part two to a song...then it'll be for Watermelon Sugar.".

YN's stared at Harry in shock, her mouth wide open. "Harry!".

"Gotta get my watermelon sugar high.".

"On that note...we're ending the live there 'cause Harry can't be trusted to keep it clean.". YN tried to act annoyed but the fans and Harry could see straight through her.

15. Are there other writers or artists who have inspired you?

A MASSIVELY BIG YES on this one. I don't know that I can tag them all, but definitely @getmehighonmagic @anincompletelist @kiwiana-writes @firenati0n @eusuntgratie @hgejfmw-hgejhsf @violetbaudelaire-quagmire and probably so many others I'm forgetting. Reading what all of them have written has helped me start writing again .... and actually finishing something for once.

20. If you listen to music while you write, what songs or artists did you find yourself listening to on repeat?

I don't always listen to music when I write, but I have found myself listening to "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" on repeat the last few days, and have, at various times, had both Taylor Swift and Niall Horan on repeat.

21. Not a question, but a challenge! Say something nice about your writing.

This one is hard, not because I don't have good things to say about my writing, we're just all our own worst critics, you know? Also, I did cheat, and I used my phone a friend lifeline. Not sorry.

Anyway. I think about everything. Absolutely everything. I think about it so much that I overthink it. And that's because I want to get it right. And that could be because of my massive fear of failure/being wrong, but I also like to think it's because I care about the story and the characters, and I want to do right by the characters. And if i'm writing about them, they clearly mean a lot to me so I'm going to do whatever I can to show that.

“Zee,” Niall whined, peeking out from under the covers, holding out his arms as he made grabby hands at his boyfriend, “Where you goin’? Get back here,”

“Babe,” Zayn sighed, pausing on his trudge to the bathroom, smiling softly “To the studio, it’s all set up. You know I’ve had the melody stuck in my head for so long, and I finally got-”

“Zayn, it’s snowing. No one possibly expects you to come.” Niall interrupted, pouting,  “My arms are tired, I can’t keep them up for much longer, c’mere already, darlin’ ” he grumbled, blinking up at Zayn, finally cracking a smile as the older man slid back in next to him.

“You can always just say you got snowed in,” he mumbled contentedly, voice muffled from where he had buried his face in the crook of Zayn’s neck, “Besides, you love sleeping in, so don’t pretend like you weren’t waiting for me to ask,” 

“I’m not going to fight you on that one,” Zayn chuckled, draping his arm over Niall’s waist, “But it isn’t even that much snow, Ni,” 

“They don’t need to know that,” Niall smiled, raising his head to press their lips together.

“You’re taking too long! Snowed in days usually have loads of cuddling involved, Zee,” Niall pouted across the living at the figure bustling around in the kitchen.

“Niall, I’m just making us some hot chocolate,” Zayn said, shaking his head fondly, “Marshmallows or whipped cream?” he asked, piling on both with a grin plastered to his face even before he heard Niall’s reply of ‘Why d’you even bother askin’?”

He crossed the room with his gaze fixed intently on the mugs in his hand, careful not to spill any. He didn’t want to take any chances, not after Niall had poked him about it for ages when he’d spilt some eggnog onto the rug by the fire the previous year, not stopping until he’d agreed to replace it. 

“It’s not even really snowed in,” Zayn said, handing Niall his mug as he flopped onto the couch, biting the inside of his cheek to hide his smirk.

“Now you’re just tryin’ to rile me up,” Niall chuckled, pulling Zayn closer as he tangled their legs together with a mischievous grin. Zayn yelped when he felt him press his cold feet to his. “Ni, I was the one in the kitchen! Haven’t you been under the blankets this whole time? How did you even manage to get your feet this cold?” 

“ ‘S a talent. You love it,” Niall smiled, blinking up at him through his eyelashes as Zayn cuddled up to him, rolling his eyes. 

“Home Alone? Then we’ll go make a snowman? And don’t even try telling me it won’t snow all that much. We both know it will,” 

“Sure, if it does, we will,” Zayn laughed at Niall’s petulant tone, ruffling his hair as he stood up to get the TV remote.

“Don’t!” Zayn cried out, hunched over giggling as Niall pelted him with snowball after snowball. 

“You’re just being weak now, Zee. ‘S not even that cold. Back in Mullingar-”

“Okay, okay! Not the ‘Back in Mullingar’ stories! Anything but them! I’ll go get the decorations,” Zayn said, stumbling a little as he got up from his curled up position, stumbling back towards the house. 

“You were the one who suggested the snowball fight in the first place,” Niall protested, giggling as he plunked down next to the snowman. “He’s naked and cold, be fast,”

Zayn stopped short, turning to raise an incredulous eyebrow at his boyfriend. “He’s made of snow,” he said, enunciating each word clearly.

“So? He’s cold. Now go,” Niall made little shooing motions with his hands and Zayn shot him an over the top salute. 

“It’s like living with a child,” he mumbled to himself, smiling.

“You love it! Aren’t you glad I made you stay home?”

“I do love you, baby. Never grow up,” Zayn grinned, turning to blow a kiss to him, blushing and giggling again when Niall pretended to catch it, blowing one back at him.

Summary:

So, this is the rewrite of my old Nouis fic 'Thanks To The Internet', that I started writing last night. Reading the original fic back now makes me cringe lol, so this is the new version of it! It's a brand new name, new story (technically), but it'll be based off of the original storyline. Apparently, when I was first writing, I said screw the story development, let's get straight into the angst and hurting our beautiful Nialler hahahah. It just seemed so rushed and unrealistic, so because of that, I have began to rewrite it. Please let me know what you think and please be honest lol. I'll have part two up before Christmas! <3

SUMMARY: Being a 15 year old is anything but simple. When Niall Higgins meets Louis Tomlinson online, a crush is developed and family life gets complicated.

15 year old Niall Higgins thought his life was average. He had two fathers and two siblings who loved him, even though they aren’t blood related. His best friends were awesome. His online friend and crush was beautiful (or so he thought from the few pictures he’s seen). School was school, okay, but he was pleased he was in his final year. So, a pretty average life, if you asked him. Besides, being online for hours everyday was normal for a teenager, right? 

Did he mention he was gay?

He had met Louis five months ago on a messaging site. His fathers had warned him of the dangers of talking to strangers online, but he knew Louis wasn't like that. They had video called once or twice, though they couldn't speak due to neither of them having a microphone, but it was still fun and they saw each other's faces, so it was all good in Niall's opinion. However, his parents didn't know the details. He was 15 for goodness sake, he didn't need to tell his parents everything. They knew he had a friend called Louis, and that Niall liked him, but they didn't know that Louis was two years older than him, they would freak out if they ever found out. So, Niall didn't tell them.

His 18 year old brother, Harry, had accidently walked in on them video calling one day, and when he questioned Niall about Louis, the younger boy had confessed that Louis was slightly older than him and begged him not to tell their parents. Harry, being the good big brother he was, promised he wouldn't, as long as Niall was careful and if he was to ever meet Louis in real life, he'd take Harry with him. Niall, of course, promised he would and had thanked his brother profusely. The two brothers had always been close, and Harry didn't want to jepodise that over a silly internet crush. Harry was young once, he knew what it was like. Besides, he'd probably grow out of it soon enough.

Honestly, Niall was beyond happy. He was actually doing better than he'd ever done at school because of Louis. His parents were proud of him and had actually recently bought him a new guitar as a reward. You see, Niall was also a passionate singer, songwriter and guitarist. He was pretty good at it, too. He was in the process of writing his own song. His parents couldn't believe how good he was. The amount of times Niall had caught them secretly recording him singing and playing guitar was countless at this point, but he could never be mad at them for it. His dream was to become a musician, and apparently his parents were beyond supportive. Niall truly loved them.

Anyways, back to the story.

Niall was currently sat at his desk in his bedroom, computer on and open on the chat messages he was exchanging with Louis.

NiallHiggins08: OMG! You should've seen what Liam did in class today! 

NiallHiggins08: we were doing an experiment in chemistry and he mixed two liquids together and POOF they exploded and the entire room was a mess!! XD 

LouisTheTommo: thought he was supposed to be the sensible one?! Who's gonna keep you outta trouble now?! D: 

NiallHiggins08: HEY!! I can be sensible!!

NiallHiggins08: ...

NiallHiggins08: when I wanna be...

LouisTheTommo: oh PLEASE Nialler, you cannot be sensible to save your life :P 

NiallHiggins08: RUDE!! I resent that. No song snippet for you tonight...

LouisTheTommo: oh no, I cannot go on without hearing my nightly snippet!! I sorry Ni, forgive me? I wuv you <3

NiallHiggins08: ...well...fine, but only because I know you'll be pouting behind that screen xx

LouisTheTommo: I only pout for you, babe <3

"Nialler! Pa said dinner will be ready in five minutes. Get your butt downstairs." Called Harry from beyond his younger brother's door. Niall closed the messages and shut off his computer, pushing the chair back and standing, making his way to the door.

"Hello to you too, bro. Whatever happened to a normal greeting? I don't see you all day and this is how you say hi? I am offended, Harold!" Niall joked, dodging his brother's hands as the older boy made a grab at him. "I'm not five anymore, Haz, you can't get me easily anymore!" He laughed, quickly ducking down and moving past Harry towards the stairs, hearing the footsteps behind him.

"Cheeky bugger! Come back here and give me a cuddle!" Harry laughed, just as the two skidded into the kitchen, Niall just barely avoiding knocking into his dad. 

"Sorry, dad." He grinned, stepping behind the bigger man, hoping for some protection. "HA! Loser." He laughed, poking his tongue out at Harry before he felt an arm wrap around his shoulders from behind. 

"No cuddle for your old man, eh, Ni? You too big for that now?" His pa asked, now with both arms around his son as he squeezed lightly.

"Never too old for a cuddle with you, papa!" He replied, turning around and returning the hug. Seconds later, he felt another pair of arms around him and Harry's familiar curly hair tickled his cheek.

"Gotcha." Harry whispered in his ear and Niall just laughed, living for the moments like these with his family. They broke apart when the sound of plates knocking against the table caught their attention. 

"Food!" Niall exclaimed, quickly taking his usual place at the table and hearing his family laugh. "Thanks, dad, looks tasty as always!"

"You flatter me, sweetheart." His dad replied, pressing a kiss to his hair as he passed by. "Ellie, dinner!" He called up the stairs, hearing the almost silent footsteps make their way towards the kitchen. Seconds later, the family of five were sat around the table eating happily and sharing tales of their day.

As dinner time came to an end, and everyone began clearing their plates off the table, Niall glanced up at his parents. "Dad? Papa?" He spoke, gaining their attention. Eleanor had left the room by that point, the pre-teen going into the lounge to watch some TV. Harry was stood at the sink, beginning to wash up, acting like he wasn't really listening to his brother, but wanting to hear what he wanted, knowing from his tone of voice that he was about to ask something his parents might not like. "Could I possibly, like, get a uh, microphone? Please? For my computer..." He asked, playing with his fingers and not looking up, nervous about his parents reactions.

"Why do you want a microphone for your computer?" His pa asked, a suspicious tone to his voice. "Niall."

The teen took a deep breath and looked up hesitantly, almost shrinking away from the slightly narrowed eyes of both parents. "Well, you see, it's a funny story..." He chuckled nervously, but stopped immediately when neither man was backing down, so he slumped down and shrugged. "Fine. It's just that me and Louis, we're messaging all the time and I just feel like we should be able to actually talk to each other properly, and I know you said I shouldn't because it's all online, but -"

He was cut off from his rambling by his dad's hand on his shoulder. "Ni. Just take a breath, sweetheart, okay?" When Niall nodded, doing as instructed, Preston spoke again. "I don't know, Niall, I - no, wait a minute," He held up a hand when the teen was about to interrupt, "You're only 15, babe, I don't particually feel comfortable with you chatting to this boy online, nor do I think you should be video calling each other, so I really don't think you should be getting a microphone to talk to him. Why don't we wait a little bit and when you're 16, we'll talk about it again, hey?" He finished, keeping his hand on his son's shoulder. 

Niall was frowning, almost pouting, as he kept his gaze on the table. His papa sighed. "Nialler, your father's right. You're too young to be having an online relationship, anyway. You're lucky we even let you have your own computer and webcam. Don't forget, we can take it away anytime. Don't make me do that. Please. We're trusting you to be sensible and not to push it."

Niall stayed silent for a moment before nodding sadly. "Okay. Sorry dad, papa." He said softly, glancing up and giving a small smile. "Can I just send him one last message tonight, though, please? I promised him I'd send him a little bit of the song I'm working on." He grinned when they both nodded. Standing up, he thanked them and left the room, but not before hearing his brother's voice speak up.

"I'll keep an eye on him. He'll be fine." 

Niall just sighed again and walked up the stairs to his room, closing the door and falling down onto his bed. He ran a hand through his hair before letting his arms flop down. 

Most of the time, his life was great. Other times, it was slightly less great.

7. Work I’m least proud of (and why): Good Dogs Don’t Bark, it was fun in the moment to share something inspired by Harry barking on tour, but it isn't something I put a lot of time and effort into, so it isn't very memorable to me compared to other things I posted this year.

8. Share or describe a favorite review you received: There were so many lovely comments all around this year, but one of the funniest was a tweet of someone complaining about my Harry/Ted Lasso fic Premier Fantasies that started off with "MY EYES MY EYES MY EYES OH GOOD LORD MY TIME HERE ON EARTH IS DONE." I feel like I've finally made it to a new tier of fic writer by writing something so unhinged that someone broke into all caps.

9. A time when writing was really, really hard: I don't remember a particularly hard time this year, but November and December were difficult just from the number of deadlines I had. I was luckily able to finish everything by their posting dates, but it was very stressful. I posted the Louis Rare Pair, 1D Christmas Fest, art for Reverse Bang, and a secret santa fic all in December.

10. A scene or character you wrote that surprised you: The entire plot of That's What I Want. I wanted to write a rare pair that hadn't been done before. I picked Harry/Lil Nas X and thought it would be fun to do an Mpreg fic. I couldn’t decide which one in the pair should be pregnant. I laughed so hard when I finally figured out a plot with both of them pregnant.

11. A favorite excerpt of your writing: From We're Getting Better With Time

He turns out the light, leaving his tired reflection behind as he return to the bedroom to finish unpacking. It’s strange, trying to put back pieces of his life into this room that they’ve never fit into. Everything reminds him how little this house feels like a home. The half-filled closet, the dresser without any knickknacks on top, the bare walls. Even the bedding he’d bought was a boring striped pattern.

He was never meant to stay at this rental house long term. But it’s been eight months since his wife asked for a separation, eight months since he signed the lease on the first available furnished rental unit he could afford. The rental has standard beige walls, beige carpet, beige everything. It is a beige purgatory where he’d planned to wait out the final judgement on his thirty-three years of marriage.

The ink on the divorce papers has been dry for six weeks now, and yet he hasn’t thought about buying a house of his own once.

12. How did you grow as a writer this year: My descriptions and details have improved a lot. While writing We're Getting Better With Time, I had sort of an ah-ha moment. I got frustrated because I kept thinking that the story would be told better if I could write a long slowburn fic, but I didn't have time for that because it was for a fest. Instead, I thought about all the elements I'd want if I were writing the long fic, like Harry's relationships with his ex-wife and children, or to show the difference between the home his ex-wife kept and the house Harry was renting temporarily. I got creative and found new ways to slip those details into the story without adding chapters of backstory or filler.

13. How do you hope to grow next year: My goal last year was to finish some of my longer wips. I definitely didn't do that this year, and the longest fic I posted was under 8k. Longer works are a bit intimidating for me, but I still want to finish the bigger ideas I have in my wip folder.

14. Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer or beta or cheerleader or muse etc etc): The 1D Rare Pair group chat is always so encouraging for trying out new pairings! 15. Anything from your real life show up in your writing this year: Oddly, I wrote three fics this year that mention pancakes/waffles, and they were never eaten at breakfast. This was completely unintentional, but makes a lot of sense, as pancakes at dinnertime is one of my favorite meals.

16. Any new wisdom you can share with other writers: Stop editing your first draft. It is a lot harder to edit properly when you don't have the full picture. Try getting your idea onto the page first, then perfect it later.

17. Any projects you’re looking forward to starting (or finishing) in the new year: I have a the start of a prequel for Hex Appeal that I'm hoping to post for @wankersday. I also want to work on my Girl Direction Covid Island fic and my Zouis spy fic.

It's Christmas again. It's that time of the year again, and I couldn't find a good reason not to visit my family. It's not that I didn't love them, in fact, I loved them more than any other humans on the planet. They put up with me when I walked into their life and they loved me through all the obstacles I brought them despite myself. No one else had even showed me love the way my parents had and I was totally thankful. The problem was not a lack of love, it was the whole Christmas thing. The parties, the traditions, and all the memories that came with it... including the bad ones. No, Christmas was definitely not my favorite holiday and probably never would be.

The airport was crowded and I had to admit I was not a fan of that either, but I still managed to make my way to the counter before finding a seat. Waiting was the worst, and I closed my eyes, almost falling asleep a few times but waking up every time my head would fall. I was extremely tired because of the last few weeks at work and I just wanted to lay down in my bed, blankets over my head, and sleep for a month. The beds at my parents' were comfortable, of course, but they were not my bed and that was their only but still very big flaw.

I blinked a few times, forcing myself to open my eyes, and turned my head to look at the large window. It was barely possible to see anything except snowflakes falling and I started nibbling my bottom lip. I was normally not scared of flying but in these conditions, it was slightly stressful. I gripped the sleeves of my hoodie hard and twisted the fabric. Was that a good excuse to leave and just go back home? To spend the holidays at home, watching action movies on my couch and napping in-between?

I was still lost in my thought when a message from the airline company echoed in the large room.

"Due to the bad weather, all flights will be delayed. More information will be provided later."

Something inside of me seemed to light suddeenly like a switch was flick, as I thought of the possibility to just go back home. It seemed like I was blessed for no reason, like someone had heard my prayers and that I was going to get what I wanted this year without much effort.

I watched everyone get up and rush to the counters to talk to employes and at that moment, I was so happy I was not working there. I remained sitting without moving at all as everyone was panicking around me and closed my eyes again. I thought about how excited my mom had sounded when I told her that this year, I would spend Christmas with them and somethin stirred in my stomach. It was guilt. Of course, I had to go. It was the first time in the past 5 years that I would spend Christmas with them. I hated it, that much was true, but I could make an effort, right? It was only a few days... right? Suffering a few days to make my parents happy seemed like a very tiny sacrifice and after a while, I sighed and my eyes fluttered open.

I inhaled deeply to gather some courage and finally go get my stuff back. When I got out of the airport, it was late and although I should be hungry, I was actually slightly nauseous. I felt my heart jump in my chest and walked quickly to the closest cab, opening the door and bringing my luggage with me.

"Wow, I'm so lucky." I let out with a chuckle before I noticed someone sitting next to me. "Oh, I-I'm s-so sorry!"

The man next to me looked young, maybe a few years younger than me, and he seemed as surprised as I was. I could see part of his brown hair under his beanie and when his blue eyes met mine, I held my breath.

"Sorry miss, but he was here before you-"

"No, no of course, I'm really sorry." I grabbed the handle of the door but stopped immediately when I felt the young man's hand over mine. It was warm despite the cold weather and I turned around to face him, blinking a few times.

"Where are you going?"

My mom taught me not to share that kind of information with anyone but I just licked my lips and raised a shoulder. "Closest hotel, I guess."

His lips curled slightly and he nodded once. "Me too. We can share the cab if you want."

I didn't want to get back in the cold with my stuff and try to find a new cab. I just wanted to get in bed and sleep after a drink or two, perhaps. I let my eyes roam on his face before I pressed my lips together. A cab ride wouldn't kill me. In fact, there was probably a hotel nearby and we would just split the bill and party without ever seeing each other again.

"Thank you, that's very sweet of you." I agreed, my lips curling into a smile.

"Christmas spirit!" he chuckled and shrugged. "It's the most wonderful time of the year!"

"I guess." I replied softly. I thought the exact opposite but what was the point of telling him? Besides, I knew it would bring many questions that I didn't want to answer.

The ride was silent but I noticed him glancing at me from time to time and every time, I couldn't help my heart from skipping a beat. We reached the hotel and paid the driver before bringing our stuff in the hall of the hotel slowly. He seemed tired too but when we reached the counter, I leaned against it without sending him a second glance.

"I'd like a room, one night, please."

"For two?" the woman in front of me asked, raising her eyebrows.

"No." I chuckled tiredly. "One for me, alone."

I paid and ended up in the elevator with a key. I yawned as the doors were closing but the guy from earlier stopped them to join me and once again, I felt nervous.

"I had already booked a room before leaving the airport." he explained when I sent him an awkward smile. "Your flight was delayed too?"

"Yea."

He nodded and I started biting my bottom lip, holding the handle of my luggage even harder., so hard that my fingers turned white. I didn't know why but he was making me nervous, and when the door opened again, I rolled my bag behind me until I heard his voice again.

"Hey." he let out, making me turn around. "I'm gonna go to the bar on the first floor, to get a drink. If you want to join me, you're welcome."

I looked at him for a few seconds, debating if it was a good idea or not and if I should actually go, until I noticed the doors close again between us, making me jump slightly.

"Uhm, okay."

I spent too long just looking at the closed doors, motionless and alone on the hall of the 6th floor. I didn't know this man but somehow, he made a short impact on my night and when I took my shoes off and sat on my bed, he sitll hadn't left my mind. I was not the type to talk to strangers let alone befriend them, but somehow, i felt lonely in this stupid hotel room. I got up quickly, leaving my bag there, and walked to the bathroom to look at myself in the mirror. I had left my coat on the bed along with my boots next to the door and what I was looking at was horrible. My make up was almost all gone, leaving small traces of black under my eyes,  and my hair was a mess. I looked at my reflection and sighed. It was a miracle someone had invited me for a drink. Perhaps, he was desperate or very lonely himself.

I just wanted to take off my jeans and put on sweatpants but instead, I closed my eyes and shook my head. The truth was, a drink would be very appreciated. I grabbed my wallet, my phone and my key before walking out of my room and taking the elevator again. I felt my heart beat harder the whole ride and when the 'ding' was heard, telling me I was on the main floor, I swallowed hard.

It was mostly the kind of person who carried their friends through decades. I wasn't good at making new friends or even opening up. Going to meet a strange at a hotel bar was very out of character for me but somehow, it was thrilling.

As soon as I walked in I noticed him but instead to talk to him, I walked to the bar and asked for a shot and a drink, if only to ease my nerves. Everything stressed me. from spending the evening, drinking with a stranger, to going back to see my parents for Christmas, and it was not easy to handle. I grabbed the shot and swallowed it quickly before giving my room number to the barman and taking a long sip of my 'sex on the beach'. It took about a minute and a half until the man in the cab sat next to me and I licked my lips before turning to him.

"Niall Horan." he just said, extending his hand.

I grabbed it and shook it slightly with a small smile. "Mimi. Armstrong."

"Thank you for accepting my invitation, Mimi." he just said as his lips curled. "I would have paid for your drink, you should have let me."

I raised my nose up and shook my head a bit. "Na, it's cool, I'm not here because you invited me." I joked, making him chuckle. "I just needed a drink. Cheers?"

He clinked his glass of what looked like rum and coke against mine and I laughed a bit.

"So, Mimi Armstrong, where were you going?" he asked as I was swallowing what was left of my glass. He made a sign to the bartender and pointed my drink before pointing himself and I felt my heart skip a beat when I realized he was putting my drink on his bill. When was the last time something like that had happened to me?

"It's the holidays, of course I'm going in my family." I let out, not really mentioning that I normally never spend Christmas with my family. "What about you?"

He twisted his glass in his hands and chuckled sadly. "I'm going back home. My mom is probably already there. I invited her for the holidays. I just hope I can get there in time. I don't want her to spend a lonely Christmas, that's why I invited her in first place."

"Where are you from?"

"Ireland, and you?" he asked, raising his eyebrows.

I turned to Niall and blinked a few times. I should have guessed from his accent that he was Irish but for some reason, I didn't. His blue eyes roamed on my face and I suddenly felt self-conscious. Why did he even invite me here for a drink? It was ridiculous to be lonely to the point of inviting a random stranger like me to drink for the evening.

"Oh, here and there." I admitted with a shrug. "I don't really know."

"Wait." he frowned, tilting his head slightly. "You don't know where you're from?

I stared at him for a few second again until the bartender put an other drink in front of me. I grabbed it and sipped half of it quickly from the straw, not really sure I wanted to answer sincerely his question. After all, I didn't know him, and I was not the type to open up anyway.

"I'm from everywhere and nowhere, it doesn't matter."
