Rewatching Dance Moms as an adult and realising how tiny these kids were when they were being exploited and villainised actually makes me so upset.
You’re telling me an 8 year old Maddie Ziegler was portrayed as an antagonist to be hated to the entire world and everyone was just okay with that? This grown dance teacher was obsessed with her to the point where her entire existence relied on that woman’s approval.
A 9 year old Chloe Lukasiak was targeted and bullied by a woman who she looked up to on a daily basis and everyone just watched and said nothing? She had her looks and talent judged and was labelled a snake by a grown adult.
A 10 year old Paige Hyland was resented by a grown woman for being blonde and pretty and was constantly told she was mediocre despite her insane talent.
A 13 year old Brooke Hyland was being forced to do something she very clearly hated to the point where she broke her growth plate, causing her growth to be stunted for the rest of her life. She was called bratty and moody for simply being a teenager.
A 6 year old Kenzie Ziegler was constantly told she wasn’t as good as her older sister and was basically sabotaged her entire time on the show by being given dances that were far too young for her age even when she was in her teens.
A 9 year old Nia Sioux was constantly stereotyped for her race and was only ever given a chance to learn and grow when Abby wanted to use her for ‘ethnic’ dances. She was constantly bullied and told she was a bad dancer but was also never given a chance to actually learn and grow as a dancer.

Hate that they trashed on nia and maddie for not being there, why would they go back to something that gave them trauma and bad memories?
EXACTLY!! This pissed me off so much! At first I thought it was just Jojo but to see Kendall, Kira, and Kalani do it really pissed me off. Now I give credit to Paige, Brooke, and Chloe for going since they went through so much but I give them even more credit for staying true to their friends and not trashing them for not going to the reunion! Hearing those three talk shit like that really made me feel different about them! NOT EVERYONE HAD TO GO TO THE REUNION!! Maddie and Kenzie I wasn’t shocked because they are trying so hard to get away from that show! They don’t want to be known for Dance Moms, they want to be known for their talent and for who they are! And Nia she’s got her own life and her own stuff going on, too. What Kendall said really made me upset because if she is truly their friend she wouldn’t have said that!

It's so two faced of Jojo to shade Maddie, Nia, and Mackenzie for not being at the reunion by praising Brooke, Paige, and Chloe for attending despite the horrible treatment they faced from Abby, but then turn around and say that Abby was always right and continue to have a relationship with the abuser of her "sisters". How can you claim to have a "sisterly" bond, and routinely hang out and defend their abuser, and then use their trauma to shade and invalidate someone else's trauma

Rewatching Dance Moms for the first time in a decade and I have thoughts
(Disclaimer: I’m aware that this is a heavily produced reality tv show and there’s a lot more factors in play then these moms just being straight up menaces so just assume that I’m talking about these real people like they’re fictional characters in a tv show. Okay? Okay! )
I’ve realised that Jill and Melissa are two different sides of the same crazy dance mom coin in that both of them will do absolutely anything to get their kids ahead and honestly I don’t think there’s necessarily anything wrong with that, use your resources if you got em ya know. The difference is that Jill will stand behind her actions and be like “yeah of course I did this to get my kid ahead” and will always be honest and not sneaky about it whereas Mellisa will swear up and down that she didn’t do any of that even though she’s being filmed and THEY CAUGHT HER ASS IN 4K!!!!
Also, Jill will stand in solidarity with the other moms and their kids if she deems it important enough while Mellissa will throw everyone under the bus 100% of the time and then call them jealous of her 9-year-old daughter when everyone gets JUSTIFIABLY upset about it.
Anyways.... stan Jill Vertes
