Is all that you know inspired by friends at the table? Some parts of it remind me a lot of some of the sci-fi series
Hey! Great question.
Friends at the Table (particularly Counter//Weight) was a huge inspiration for me as a GM. It really changed how I thought about some of the core 'rules' instilled in my head about TTRPGs from my old high-school DnD 3.5 days.
Thinking more visually about scenes, imagining things happening in the game as more of a TV show than a novels was VERY helpful to me in understanding player agency and how they fit in to larger narratives.
The Virtues in ATYK, bear a lot of aesthetic similarities to the Divines in Counter//Weight and Twilight Mirage. No denying that I took inspiration there. The idea of these techno-spiritual machines which represent something as abstract as "Duty" or "Rigor" was so... cool to me.
Another inspiration from f@tt that I've gone crazy with are names. I think it was the New Earth Hegemony that had some excellent names like Declan's Corrective, and I think that alone made me realize that you can really call people whatever you want.
It made me really think about what names are. They aren't just ID's referring to individuals, but they're WORDS.
Like, when we think of the name Austin (Walker or Ramsay seems appropriate here) a lot of people will hear a NAME, an identifier. But Austin means something - Great, Magnificent, Majestic (taken from a baby website do not @ me latin scholars).
So I like to have people walking around with names like MILK CAKE or Mahogany Cola, or Glass Newlane.
I'm rambling, but yeah Friends at the Table was a big inspiration. I miss the days where I used to have to drive for work and got to listen to that podcast ON THE CLOCK.
#ask#f@tt#actual play#calamity cascade#all that you know#beam saber#yes the implication is that milk cake had access to all of human history and named itself after tres leches

How I Made An Endless Runner #3
Open the master tile blue print and go to the view port from there select the default séance rout and add an arrow with these location points X = 1000.0, Y = -330.0, Z = 50.0
Then duplicate the arrows so that you have three of them this will be the players three lanes.
This step is crucial because the Y-axis locations for each of these Arrow components (-330.0, 0.0, and 330.0) are the positions we will use to switch the player character between the three lanes. Additionally, we will use these locations later for spawning collectables. With these locations established, we can now proceed to set up the player movement.
Go to BP thirdperson blue print and disconnect a wire within the code. Then add a input node.
Now we will need to make some variables the first two will want to both be integers and the last one will want to be a Float.
Change the variable from a single to an array.
Compile the project, then select the LaneY variable. In the Details panel, navigate to the Default Value section, add three elements to the array, and enter the lane positions we identified earlier: -330.0, 0.0, and 330.0.
Now we need event "A" and "D" plug a clamp node in and get a node for lane subtract. Make sure to put D key but swap the Subtract node for an Add node.
Add a set actor location and make sure to Add a Get Actor Location node and split the structure pin on this as well. Then plug in just the X and Z locations. Then add get node for the Y lane variable once this is done add a set Lane and plug in Newlane into this. This will help to allow the player to swap from lane to lane when running.
You should end up with something that looks like this. This is an adaptation to make the lane switching more smooth.
We will then want to add time line nodes.
We should set this to 10 on the time line.
We then need do the code for the time line. We will need to add in a lerp we will need to connect the lerp to the Y pin on the set actor location.
This is what it should look like in the end. However it was at this moment I found I had a problem my character would move to the right of the screen but not the left. I tried to adapted some of my code however doing this would only result in the same thing happening just on a different side. It had trend out that I did not aline my time line right. But once I did this the game still would not work. I found that looking deeper I had accidently gotten the wrong "GET" once I replaced it with the right version the game worked fine.

Sal making his version of The Mississippi Squirrel Revival after witnessing that and playing that at the school's Christmas party, where Kenneth is resting his head in his arms laughing(red face, tears, stomach and lungs hurting, ya know) at what it was that caused the confessions that day. (He may or may not have hired Sal to sing that at church next Sunday)
I included the modified lyrics!
Well when I was kid I'd just moved in Down to Nockfell, in the summer I met a young fellow around my age, who became my best friend We'd run barefooted all day long Climbing trees free as a song One day he happened catch himself a squirrel Well he stuffed him down in an old shoebox Punched a couple holes in the top and when Sunday came He snuck him into church We were sittin' way back in the very last pew Showin' him to our good buddy Ash When that squirrel got loose and went totally berserk!
Well what happened next is hard to tell Some thought it was Heaven others thought it was Hell But the fact that something was among us was plain to see
As the choir sang "I Surrender All" Squirrel ran up Harv Newlan's coveralls Harv leaped to his feet and said "Somethin's got a hold on me! Yeow!"
The day the squirrel went berserk In the First Self-Righteous Church In that sleepy little town of Pascagoula (Pascagoula) It was a fight for survival That broke out in revival They were jumpin pews and shouting Hallelujah! (Hallelujah)
Well, Harv hit the aisles dancin' and screamin' Some thought he had religion Others thought he had a demon And Harv thought he had a weed eater loose in his Fruit-Of-The-Looms He fell to his knees to plead and beg And the squirrel ran out of his britches leg Unobserved, to the other side of the room
All the way down to the amen pew Where sat Sister Bertha better-than-you Who'd been watchin' all the commotion with sadistic glee But you should've seen the look in her eyes When that squirrel jumped her garters and crossed her thighs She jumped to her feet and said "Lord have mercy on me" As the squirrel made laps inside her dress She began to cry and then to confess to sins that would make a sailor blush with shame She told of gossip and church dissension but the thing that got the most attention Was when she talked about her love life And then she started naming names!
The day the squirrel went berserk In the First Self-Righteous Church In that sleepy little town of Nockfell (Nockfell) It was a fight for survival That broke out in revival They were jumpin' pews and shouting Hallelujah! (Hallelujah)
Well seven deacons and then the pastor got saved And twenty-five thousands dollars was raised And fifty volunteered for missions in the Congo on the spot, hehe And even without an invitation There were at least five hundred rededications And we all got re-baptized whether we needed it or not
Now you've heard the Bible stories I guess Of how He parted the waters for Moses to pass All the miracles God has brought to this ol' world But the one I'll remember to my dyin' day Is how he put that church back on the narrow way With a half-crazed Nockfell squirrel
The day the squirrel went berserk In the First Self-Righteous Church In that sleepy little town of Nockfell (Nockfell) It was a fight for survival That broke out in revival They were jumpin pews and shouting Halelujah! (Halelujah) The day the squirrel went berserk In the First Self-Righteous Church In that sleepy little town of Nockfell (Nockfell) It was a fight for survival That broke out in revival They were jumpin...
I’m sorry the fucking squirrel making a girl confess to sleeping around his me CACKLING.
I have never laughed so hard
Why is it making people air out their business plssss
Sal doing this at a school performance and watching the people he got the parts from get embarrassed. (Larry is the one telling his ENTIRE love life and …. Activities to the church.)
The squirrel was just red trying to avoid a bath. He rolled around in some dirt and Travis refused to let him get cuddles and kisses until his body is nice and clean.
I fucking love this so much. O h my god imagine the face Kenneth made watching this!!

Unreal Engine: Smooth lane switching
Further Expanding on the lane switching mechanic, I wanted it to be a smooth motion rather than just an instant teleport. I decided to do this using a timeline, as I was familiar with this node my previous projects and thought it would be a good fit here.
First, I added a timeline before setting the actor location and hooked up the pins from setting NewLane.
In the timeline itself, I made it a 0.10 seconds and added a linear curve:
Then I had to use a lerp to get the distance between the current Lane and the NewLane, using the timeline as the alpha like so:
This was the result:
youtube
This looks good, and I'm happy with this outcome, however while playing around with this I did find a bug if the timeline duration (and therefore the changing animation) is longer.
If I inputted a lane change while already changing lanes, it would look very jittery and mess up my lane position. This isn't an incredibly important bug to fix *now*, but its something important to remember if I come back to this feature and want to expand on it.

Let me explain.
When I was kid I'd take a trip every summer down to Mississippi to visit my granny in her ante bellum world. I'd run barefooted all day long climbing trees free as a song. One day I happened catch myself a squirrel. I stuffed him down in an old shoebox, punched a couple holes in the top and when Sunday came I snuck him into church. I was sitting way back in the very last pew, showing him to my good buddy Hugh, when that squirrel got loose and went totally berserk! Well what happened next is hard to tell, some thought it was Heaven others thought it was Hell, but the fact that something was among us was plain to see. As the choir sang "I Surrender All", the squirrel ran up Harv Newlan's coveralls; Harv leaped to his feet and said "Somethin's got a hold on me! YEOW!"
Well, Harv hit the aisles dancing and screaming. Some thought he had religion, others thought he had a demon, and Harv thought he had a weed eater loose in his Fruit-Of-The-Looms. He fell to his knees to plead and beg, and the squirrel ran out of his britches leg unobserved, to the other side of the room. All the way down to the amen pew where sat Sister Bertha better-than-you who'd been watching all the commotion with sadistic glee. But you should've seen the look in her eyes when that squirrel jumped her garters and crossed her thighs; she jumped to her feet and said "Lord have mercy on me!" As the squirrel made laps inside her dress she began to cry and then to confess to sins that would make a sailor blush with shame. She told of gossip and church dissension but the thing that got the most attention was when she talked about her love life and then she started naming names!
Well, seven deacons and then the pastor got saved and 25,000 dollars got raised and 50 volunteered for missions in the Congo on the spot. And even without an invitation, there were at least 500 rededications and we all got re-baptized whether we needed it or not. Now you've heard the Bible stories, I guess, of how He parted the waters for Moses to pass, all the miracles God has brought to this old world, but the one I'll remember to my dying day is how he put that church back on the narrow way with a half-crazed Mississippi Squirrel.
So there's your answer.
Bottom? No. Midway through the hand job I reveal I'm not left handed hand deftly switch hands and now I have the upper hand. You can't describe that as anything but top.

Montana Weather Summary December 2022
Montana state temps averaged 42 deg below normal on December 22, the greatest below normal day since February 2, 1996, when temps also averaged 42 deg below normal. Some spots were 50°F below normal on the 22nd. The record for the state is 48.5°F below normal on December 24, 1983.
Very cold temps from the 21st through 24th. The first -40°F of the season occurred north of Havre on the 21st. This was 16 days earlier than the average in the years in which this occurs, which is about 95% of the years. Many record low high temps were set. Bozeman had their lowest high temperature of record on the 22nd, reaching only -24°F. Their old coldest high temperature was -22°F on February 2, 1989. Butte had their second lowest high temperature of record, also reaching -24°F. Their coldest is -25°F on January 21, 1962. Elk Park and Newlan Creek both recorded -50°F low temperatures on the 22nd. The last time a temperature of -50°F or colder was reported in Montana in December was in 1998. The last -50°F or colder in the state was February 2019, near Scobey. Very cold wind chill values accompanied the cold. A wind chill of -75.3°F (temperature of -49°F and wind speed of 9 mph) at Elk Park on the morning of the 22nd was likely Montana’s coldest of record. The previous coldest was -69°F at Havre on December 24, 1983. Bozeman reported a coldest wind chill of -67.7°F on the 22nd. This is their second coldest of record. Their coldest of -68.5°F was recorded the morning of December 24, 1983. Dillon reported their coldest of record on the 22nd. A -56.5°F value (temp -36 and wind 5 mph) exceeded their previous coldest of -55.3°F set December 20, 1990.
On the 21st, the temperature dropped 26°F (27F to 1F) in 3-minutes at Dillon. This was their largest of record for a 3-minute period. A 30°F drop (28F to -2F) over one-hour was their largest of record for such period. Their old record was 26°F on December 15, 1979. The Montana records for a 3-minute period and one hours are 32°F at Cut Bank on January 7, 2022 and 50°F at Havre on December 22, 1962, respectively. A sharp cool-down with the passage of this arctic cold front caused the largest daily high temperature change of record at Butte. They went from a high of 30°F on the 21st to a high of -24°F on the 22nd, a change of 54°F. This exceeded their previous record of 53.2°F set from January 31 to February 1, 1989. The warmup that started on December 23rd caused Great Falls to rise from a morning low of -26°F to a late day high of 33°F. This 59°F range was their 15th largest of record and largest since a 61°F rise on December 16, 2000.
The average daily temperature from 21 airport locations across MT was -21.3°F on the 22nd. This was the 19th coldest of record and the coldest day since Dec 21, 1990 (-22.8F). The coldest of record is -28.2F on Dec 24, 1983.
Sustained heavy snowfall over much of the state caused several locations to rank among their top 5 snowiest December’s of record. Havre had their snowiest, Livingston and Plevna their 2nd snowiest, Bozeman MSU their third snowiest, Glasgow, their 4th snowiest and Cut Bank and West Yellowstone their 5th snowiest. For a state average, the month was the 5th snowiest, with the season-to-date the 4th snowiest. This snow also produced the 3rd highest average December snow depth of record.
As a statewide average, this was the snowiest December since 2016 and the snowiest season-to-date since 2010.
This was the highest average December snow depth since 1996.
Sidney and West Yellowstone had their 4th wettest Decembers of record. West Yellowstone’s 5.70-in was their wettest December since 1996. Their calendar year 2022 was their 4th wettest of record.
Bozeman had their third highest December gust of record on the 27th. A line of thunderstorms passing through the area produced gusts to 67 mph at the airport. This was their highest December gust since 71 mph on Dec 10, 1956.
The cold snap in late December produced the highest sea-level pressure value in the state (1057.5 mb near Ulm) since January 2016.
December's sea level pressure range of 73.6 millibars (1057.5 mb near Ulm on the 22nd and 983.9 mb at Cut Bank on the 27th) is the second largest monthly range of record for Montana. December's record was 68 mb in 1955. Largest monthly range is 74.5 mb in January 1962.
The Modified AWSSI (https://mrcc.purdue.edu/research/awssi/indexAwssi.jsp) includes wind, dense fog and freezing rain elements.
State averages are those from 21 airport or nearby locations distributed across Montana.
Great Falls’ average December relative humidity was the highest since 2014.
Locations with most days of warmest or coldest temperature in Montana during the month (2 or more)

Unreal Engine: Basic lane switching
If I choose to further develop this endless runner past this prototype, I'm not sure if I want to have a lane switching mechanic like Subway surfers, or let the player have more control of their movement like in Run or Temple Run. Because of this I decided to experiment with creating a lane switching mechanic.
First, I went to my MasterTile and decided where I wanted the Y (horizontal) positions of each lane to be, and added arrows in those places:
From left to right its -330, 0, 330. These are important values as I'll be setting my player to those coordinates next.
In my player blueprint I added 2 variables and an array: Lane (int, default value 1), NewLane (int, default value 1), and LaneY (float).
The values in LaneY were those coordinates from earlier:
Now that I had the variables, I added some code to get them working. first, I made pressing A and D set the value of NewLane to Lane - 1 or Lane + 1 respectively, ensuring it was clamped so I couldn't go into invalid lanes:
Then I set the location of the player by getting a coordinate from the LaneY array using the Index of the NewLane variable (e.g. 0 = -330, 1 = 0, 2 = 330):
Lastly I just had to set the value of lane to round out the code.
This is the result:
youtube
It could definitely be smoother, however even this quick prototype has got me debating on what would be the better choice for an endless runner. I personally believe that free movement is better as it give the player greater control, but after playing with this I'm wondering if free movement is really necessary. If I were to go deeper into an endless runner, I think this choice would depend on the level design and how I place my obstacles.

🎵MATE🎶 [March 12th]🤍♠️ This sketch is one of the most beautiful, symbolic images that I’ve ever had the pleasure of laying my eyes on 🧡 It was created by a woman who blessed me with the honor of displaying it as my cover art for #mate It reflects hurt and the literal implication of nursing a broken heart back to good health. 💚 There’s a lot of misunderstanding right now in terms of how we relate to one another as men and women. One of the most obvious effects of these contentious relationship is the lack of information 💙 Yes, ignorance is bliss. But ignorance can also have the potential to be bone chillingly painful. And more often than not, some of the most impactful art, is the kind that captures our heart with an ecstasy of emotional association in inexplicable ways. And let’s be real; where’s the fun in trying to explain that?! ❤️ No matter who we are, what we look like, where we come from etc. we all want to know that there’s at least one person out there who genuinely cares for the ascension of our soul. Even if we go about giving and receiving it in different ways, we all want to mate. We all want a mate. “There are many bromides applicable here: too much of a good thing, tiger by the tail, as you sow, so shall ye reap. The point is that too often man becomes clever instead of becoming wise. He becomes inventive, but not thoughtful. And sometimes, as in the case of Mr. Whipple, he can create himself right out of existence.”
