Wildfire Implications and Agendas

With an increased surface temperature, exacerbated dry winds, little rainfall, and dead vegetation, wildfires have become increasingly apparent and treacherous. This is very problematic due to the decreased air quality, ash in the air, and physical damage to structures and the environment. However, the lack of climate change response is not the only reason the wildfires are so intense. The U.S. Forest Service, federal and local governments, the Trump Administration and response organizations/teams play a large role in setting the agendas for wildfire responses. Unfortunately, due to funding and priority being placed monetarily, the state of forests is more vulnerable. Therefore, the agenda currently in place for dealing with Wildfires applies after the damage has already been done. Even the areas that experience fire damage often are not dealt with properly to avoid economic and societal downfall; the attention is laid on logging and human gain rather than focused on the well-being of the public. The best course of action would be to identify the large problem areas in the agenda, inform and educate the public on controlled burns, and approach stakeholders with a more beneficial wildfire protocol that isn’t based on money gained and lost.

On the road again. Thought I was doing myself a healthy favor by going to the nice semi-organic grocery deli here instead of a meal out but as I was dipping my broccoli bud in the ranch dressing on the hotel room desk I noticed I bought four plastic containers to “recycle.” Always a little upsetting when you realize you’re contributing to a problem. Guilty.
