A horrible souls like game idea
what if we made a souls like game really hard like the rest of souls like games but when you die you have to start over on a new save file and you can't use that character again that exact character is locked away it has to be a different change the hair the skin tone maybe like make the eyes a little farther apart but it has to be different and not the same but the thing is when you die the game keeps track and in the next play through exactly where you did there is a grave and you can pick up a item called warriors memory which increases all stats by 2 so everytime you die the game gets a bit easier and of course if you beat it first attempt you get the achievement "naturally skilled" if you die at all you have to delete your save data like completely wipe any save data all achievements will be gone and stuff but you can attempt 'naturally skilled" achievement again also "naturally skilled" is not required for platinum since it's so unfair

The basegame wedding dress has a pregnancy morph??
#I can never be positive if something in my game is like. a third-party launcher addition#but this is so funny and I had such a strong hunch#because rushing to have your Sim get married before they give birth is such a thing so many players would do!!#and it would be so funny to pay attention to that detail by having the wedding dress show the bump!!!!#all your sim's wedding photos very obviously giving away the reason for the rushed date HAHA#the dress with the pendant at the back that everyone default replaces off (the one with the knife texture) also has a preg morph#which I know because it's the one your Sims get forced into if they attend a wedding#but it's kind of unusual because pregnant Sims don't have the opportunity to change into formal wear?#like pregnant Sims get new undies pyjamas and swimwear in addition to their maternity outfit#and if you direct a pregnant Sim to change into one of them then it changes them into the appropriate maternity fit instead of their usual#but you can't direct them to change into formal and if you use a hacked option like the shop any-wear rack it uses their usual non morph fi#so it has to be something external like a wedding that triggers them to change into formal. and I have no idea why#does this mean there's a BG suit with a preg morph for men??#or did maxis not think that pregnant male Sims would be quite so desperate to get married#anyway I'm probably the last person to know about this LMAO and I'm sure no one cares bc everyone uses wear-anything mods#but I'm a scrub who still prefers to use the default maternity meshes so this is yuge to me#also if you've never seen this dress b4: in the early game all Sims getting married under an arch used to be forced into the same outfits#actually I can't remember if the men got forced into the same suit or if they just used their regular formal#because most BG formal outfits for men were mostly wedding-appropriate#but at any rate. all women wore the same wedding dress. and it was this .... beauty#and I don't remember with which EP it changed but probably pretty early on they just let Sims use their regular formal wear for weddings#so you could pick their wedding dress yourself#but this dress remained hidden by default (I think?) so ironically it meant you COULDN'T use the wedding dress even if you wanted to#also this is completely off topic but you would also go away for your honeymoon#which meant the Sims getting married would literally get driven away in a limousine and stay off-world for a while#it was kind of cute because it really was like they took a vacation from the player too. got up to their own mischief away from your contro#then with bon voyage they introduced ACTUAL vacations and they turned honeymoons into an actual game mechanic#but again these offworld honeymoons are no longer a possibility#kind of like teens 'going out' with permission got replaced by going out on actual outings/dates even though it was a cute event#wow this note section is long and irrelevant. anyway enjoy picking up your wedding dress from a store called 'It's Not Too Late'

Is the video game really subverting its genre? Are you sure it's not just doing clever things within its genre, because otherwise the game would be boring and unchallenging and say nothing interesting? I'm just saying, it's cool and all that the internet allows horror game fandoms to overflow into eachother, but not EVERY 2 hour video essay needs to be spent breathlessly sucking off the devs. Sometimes a game is just REGULAR difficult and REGULAR high-quality.
Besides RPGs made over a decade ago, what is the thing supposedly subverting? Clearly not other contemporary indie horror games, because there is clearly a convergent ethos forming of cosmic horror and beginners' traps; that's just what the genre looks like nowadays.

Stick of Truth is a bog standard RPG just with a quirky tutorial#and creative integration of its off-beat story and mechanics RIGHT??#my point is Patho and F&H aren't actually much different; they still play like RPGs still handle like RPGs#the fact that you die more than you would in COD or Skyrim or whatever doesn't make it the “anti-RPG”#anymore than Seinfeld was the “anti-sitcom”#“subversiveness” is just a basic bitch way to analyze things; and I think “How does the art take ADVANTAGE of its genre?” is better#media criticism

was looking through old posts and i'm surprised to see that i seemingly didn't have any commentary on anything in 3 in chapter 7, 8 or 9, the posts related to 3's story go from "my first reaction when i saw yopple-bot was 'i love you. but also you are definitely the boss for this chapter-'" to "i have been in hell all day. hell being bada-bing tower." funny to me cuz those chapters are like, the best ones sdfkljsdfjfsdkjlfsdjkl-

I'm not gonna lie, hearing that the Nintendo Switch Online Playtest is identified as a "strand game" has made me more excited than any video game news since Alan Wake 2.
#fannish#I'm not quite sold on the whole concept being just more terra nullis stuff#but like okay. Almost all the most interesting ideas in Death Stranding are currently exclusively used by KojiPro#and the idea that Nintendo has been granted permission to use them#explicitly identified by them using the “strand game” moniker#(b/c *absolutely* no way they could be using that term if there wasn't some kind of a license in place)#is at least a lateral step#Granted my excitement is tempered by the ongoing Palworld lawsuit and the way that intersects with the DS patents#But Nintendo taking a crack at making something all-ages friendly with those mechanics can only have positive effects#also Nintendo is still like the one big big publisher that goes out of its way to cultivate new IPs#Like. I think Nintendo is probably looking for their next Splatoon#For a different genre and market

#pokemon#as a person who has played pretty much every main pkmn game in some capacity#i can find things in them that are worth praise#but like obviously they can't all be the same level of good. there are so many factors to a pkmn game to be balanced#some have a great region. some have a great story. some have just a solid gameplay experience. all of them have great music lol#i could even play devil's advocate and praise bdsp for being a truly faithful remake and pretty incredible for a studio first Real game#but mainly i keep thinking like. everyone has shat on the new pkmn games ever since gen 5 especially#but then over time people are like Huh they aren't so bad after all#like once you get out of the gamehate wormhole generated by inflammatory social media posting you can appreciate a thing more#and there may still be people out there who think red/blue are the best ones. and y'know they have a point#even though objectively those games were littered with bugs to the point where some normal mechanics were not correct#and things just got more complicated and sophisticated with abilities and new types and better moves and stuff#the original games are absolute Miracles to have been made at all and for what they're worth they were Revolutionary#it was a simpler time but the ideas put forth were still pretty complex. especially considering this was the First One#this is the foundation all pokemon games thereafter rose from. and it's a pretty solid foundation despite all the hardships#anyway. i love pokemon. and i love that even after all this time - over 25 years - its spirit from back in 96 still remains in some form#it may not be about catching em all anymore. because physically that's really hard to do with over 1000 guys now#but it's still about finding joy in following a dream of adventure with a bunch of cool animal friends#and sometimes you save the world a little bit. that's p cool

i will never understand it when new players - and emphasis on new players - decide to story skip, and the further the story skip is, i firmly believe the worse it gets. it's not just shooting yourself in the foot lorewise. that doesn't really have an impact on gameplay, if at all. but when you decide to do combat content with other people, how tf do you parse all of the mechanics thrown at you when you skipped the entire learning process it takes to be able to get at the point when you can do so relatively easily??? how do you find fun when you die over and over to a boss and you have no clue as to what's going on or what killed you???
#this comes from a place of frustration when on a whim i decided to go on a trial roulette spree as a sage.#i ran into a level 100 sprout that stood still for EVERY mechanic and clearly had no idea what to do.#or god forbid it even cared enough to learn what was going on.#the game teaches you VERY EARLY ON that orange bad. and they weren't even trying to dodge either#so i was stuck babysitting them while we also had a few people new to the trial itself so it was hell overall.#like... i get wanting to be on the same level as your friends asap if that's your reason for story skipping. i totally get it.#but you also have to remember what you bring to the table when you're playing with other people too. not just your friends.#idfk that entire experience sucked. i don't think i've ever blacklisted anyone faster LMAO#(and for transparency: i also bought the stb story skip. but it ended up being wasted money since i went back and did everything anyways.)#(and by everything i mean from where i left off at the arr post patches up until shb where it was supposed to start me at.)#(if only i had known i actually wasn't far off from getting into hw bc the recycled primals plotline was fucking killing me.)#(and then i hated the idea of not knowing the story at all so i went back to where i left off without even starting shb yet.)#(anyway story skips are only useful for alts and that's it. thanks for coming to my ted talk)#stfu anri

I'm still losing my mind over a qsmp digimon inspired au- it just feels so perfect- also please just look at this thing:
#tell that isn't literally just the eggs#idk qsmp just feels so perfect for a digi type of au or like a mon + isekai type of au in general but digi in particular speaks to me#the intersections of in-game mechanics and player rp just feels so rife with potential in that kind of setting#there's a lot of interesting sort of 'meta' things you can do with a world that is 'digital' and how#the characters can interact with it and -literally- change it... or how it can change them too O_O#the visual setting works so well too since the digital world (in the series I've seen/played) tends to be this like foresty/tropical#juxtaposed with glitches and wires and technology!#idk- it's a really fun concept that I love rolling around ideas for in my head#I'm the Worst when it comes to committing to things like this but it's an idea I've kept coming back to since like April of last year#I don't know if I'd ever do a full on au but I'd love to dabble with it in my free-time... maybe I'll make that my new years resolution lol#like it wouldn't translate exactly evenly given the eggs are lot more fragile then digi's and a lot more... mortal#but it's kind of fun in a way like it's a reverse of the usual dynamic#since the human partners would be the ones who can respawn instead of their partners- that's a fun idea to work with

have been trying to make more of an effort to use romance-neutral options/language when the option for romance comes up in a mechanical capacity in one of my games/hacks (whether as an actual function in the game, or just 'here's a table of prompts for the tone a dynamic or interaction might have'). i very much want to incorporate the possibility for romance to be A Part of My Games beyond 'idk throw it in during the roleplay i guess' if a player wants that; but i don't want to push people to include romance in games not themed around it if they don't want to, and i don't want them to be excluded from part of the game if a specific romantic dynamic would be a nope.
problem is, 'this option is called a bond: you can choose between romantic, platonic, familial, or Something Else or you can roll to see which you get' has mostly worked pretty well so far! but when feasible and appropriate for the format, i'd like to try to be inclusive of polyam and other more-than-two options, and i can't seem to find a good substitute for 'polycule' without romantic connotations. hm.
#whosebaby does game dev#whosebaby makes things#ttrpg tag#letting the pokemon polyhedral hack cool off for a while was a good idea because the romance/bonding mechanic was kicking my ass#and i think i've got it much more tightened up and cohesive and ready to go now#including the option for vee/triad poly! with minimal logistical nightmare!#would like to make mechanics for bigger ones but for now i'm just trying to get the rest of it in sailing shape#more than anything else the whole section on the bonding mechanic took a ton of gutting and rearranging but i Did It#most of what i have left to do is flavoring to expand on what the lore is; because the default lore is not pokemon at all#as well as making the rules easier on the eye to read format-wise#good news is the ghost hunter game is also very very close to being done and i'm excited to post that one!#it's an original system and not a hack and i'm proud of it#related because it also has a bond mechanic/flavoring although thankfully is not exclusive of poly without Purposeful Extra Logistics#is there a name for that tag

supergiant games are 3 for 3 [sorry bastion..... i haven't played u bastion.....] to me. transistor, pyre and hades BEEEELOOOOOVEEEDDDD
#bastion regularly gets knocked down to like.. a quid on the playstation store. i should pick it up and play it at sum point..#but yes.... cant believe they are making their first sequel.. treading into new territory.. CANT WAIT😃#idk what my favourite of the three is.... very different flavours#with the throughline ofc being incorporating gameplay mechanics directly into the story.. Delicious#and jen zees art and darren korbs OSTs and LOGAN CUNNINGHAMS VOIIIIIICE YIPPEEEE#i think realising he voiced both hades and achilles was the most surprising to me just because how close together they are in the house#like...those r different guys. and i looooove him as the transistor itself😵💫ooooooouuuuuuuuuuuaaaaaahhh#really love that the original pitch for transistor was ->#greg kasavin and jen zee shooting the shit in a long car journey coming back from e3#fantasy world. unassuming women working as a singer in taverns falls in love with a travelling wizard#group of people come for the wizard and kill him with powerful demonic blade. blade is lost in the struggle. she finds it#and miraculously hears the guys voice coming from inside the sword. wields it herself. goes out for revenge#and they enjoyed the idea but accepted it was never the sorta game they were gonna make. then transistor development starts hitting a wall#wonderin why they arent making the story the wanna make. and greg goes..because a demonic rune sword doesnt work in a scifi setting#jen designs red and the transistor. nails it in one. like the original concept art is just.. how they look in the final game#RIGHT TRANSISTOR DEVELOPMENT TANGENT OVER#i love the fleshy..marble design of The Process... eating up the city....#LOOOVE sunkrish balas performance as royce. that third act with headphones on. he gave me chills. his intonation is soooo perfect and eerie#luv the ps4 controller lighting up when the transistor talks hehehehe#this became ramble city. Pyre. PYRE!!!!!!!! fire off points about pyre. go go go:#the Cast Of Characters😃....AUUUGH. the downside as a setting.. hello boundless purgatory.. endless plains and roiling seas to travel across#how TIED the gameplay of the rites is to the story of pyre. its kinda crazy how well integrated it is#pyre is soo Lore heavy. and most of it is optional. no voice acting in this badboy#only played it once but i fucking loooved reading all the entries in the book of rites...#its just so DENSE. I LOVE U HIGH FANTASY BASKETBALL SHOOTING HOOPS INTO FLAMES TO ASCEND FROM PURGATORY GAME <- greatly simplifying#it has fucking interactive music that changes depending on what team u are fighting against in the liberation rites COME ONNNN MAAAAAN#everybody and their nan knows how fucking good hades is. im running outta ramble space in these tags#tightest controls. weapon and boon combinations up the wazoo. drool worthy gameplay loop. just one more run: the game. pet doggy#i looooooooooove supergiant games i looooooooooooooove supergiant games.
