a looooooooooot of American leftist perspective on what is good or possible with basic policy about land use, recycling, public transit etc is so fucked up purely because we are completely unaware that much of Europe has been doing stuff we consider pie in the sky laughable dreamerism (like effectively and safely going home from shift work or from a nightclub at 3am on the subway, or recycling anything instead of strip mining a mountain every time we need to bottle beer, or turning vacant office buildings into apartments, etc) for decades or centuries.
you do not find out about it unless you're fortunate enough to visit and stay long enough to actually interact with the infrastructure, not just as a tourist, because likewise the Europeans just assume we can take buses everywhere or get 25¢ for a beer bottle and simply choose to live in suffering and profligacy out of simple American degenerate preference for driving cars and smashing bottles until an American tells them exactly how bad everything is here, which they can hardly believe
#im exaggerating but only slightly#most of Europe is also disgusting colonial settler empire too im not saying they're good#fuck Germany in particular#BUT you can absolutely take the fucking subway home from the club#“buhh duhh we cant do that here because of american exceptionalism”#YES WE CAN! yes we can#the people handling the money and policy simply choose not to#and why is that?#probably because we arent publicly executing enough of them if i had to guess#keep voting democrat everyone this is a new strain of blue guy its different bro I promise

the tennis calendar is famously bad but february is the most disorganized thing i've ever seen. it's january so we're in australia on outdoor hard. march we will be in the united states on outdoor hard. so how do we get there? via western europe, the middle east, and the entirety of south america. some of these events are indoor hard. some of them are outdoor hard. some of them are clay! like what the hell
#this isnt news im jsut always struck but how stupid february is#like okay first off. lets move the european events to indoor hard season. we dont need rotterdam and marseille right now#i dont want to tell the south american events to stop being clay even tho it isnt clay season#because. well come on. its south america. it has to be clay#but we can't put it in clay season because that is in europe so its too far away#i suppose. if we put the south american swing after the sunshine double that would make sense#because then it would be clay season but it could be the pregame for europe#so it geographically make sense since they would be coming from miami so its okay. and then go to europe#and not all south american events are clay so therefore you can still get the hard court for post sunshine double. you get to chose.#and i have no idea where to put the middle eastern events like okay yes its outdoor hard season so i guess so#see i can fix the schedule. somewhat. itf let me innnn#tennis

#historical hetalia#hetalia#aph norway#hws norway#damn this took a long time#if you haven't heard much from me the last three days it's because I was studying and doing this#had this idea ages ago but never did it because: very time-consuming :P#but now I did it!!#SNL (store norske leksikon) has this great illustration of all these uniforms and it is inspiring every time I look at it#and then norgeshistorie.no posted a new article about militarization in Norway during the union with Denmark and I had to do the project#we all know how much I like drawing uniforms and historical clothing 😔😔😔#even bought a book about historical clothing this spring - for references#but it's a bit confusing so might get another one if I see a good one#I do love the historical asks I get because then I get to nerd out about all the cool history I know 👀#I have mentioned before but; Norway was perhaps /the/ most militarized country in Europe during the 1600s#there are a lot of stories from towns and villages nearby about the results of this#anyway; hope everyone enjoys Norway in uniforms!! 😁#I am sure some minor details will be inaccurate but I tried

I am especially looking for retailers or potential stockists in Canada, Europe, and Asia; feel free to contact me on social media to discuss a special deal.

[Matilda of Boulogne's] thorough integration into the governance of the realm was not repeated in [Eleanor of Aquitaine's] years as queen of England. Eleanor's coronation followed a new model that emphasized the queen as progenitor of royal heirs and subordinate to the king rather than as sharer of royal power. Though Eleanor acted as regent in England between 1156 and 1158 and in Poitou on several occasions from 1165 on, her writs suggest delegated rather than shared royal authority. In England, her power was limited by the lack of lands assigned to her use and by the elaboration of financial and judicial administration. Whereas [Matilda of Boulogne's] inheritance allowed her to play an integral role in politics by securing the Londoners' loyalty and a steady supply of mercenaries, Eleanor's inheritance provided her with more extensive power in Poitou and Aquitaine than in England. Until 1163, Eleanor withdrew funds from the Exchequer by her own writ, but unlike her Anglo-Norman predecessors, she was not a member of its council nor did she issue judgments from the royal court. Eleanor's counsel and diplomatic activities, in contrast to Matilda's, are rarely mentioned. She did, however, encourage the 1159 Toulouse campaign and supported Henry in the Becket affair and the coronation of young Henry. Eleanor was not a prominent curialis; she rarely witnessed Henry's charters or interceded to secure the king's mercy. She did follow in Matilda's footsteps in her promotion of her sons, cultivation of dynastic goals through the Fontevraudian tombs, and patronage that reflected her family's traditions. For Matilda, to be queen encompassed a variety of functions-curialis, diplomat, judge, intercessor, and "regent." Through a combination of factors, Eleanor's role as queen was much more restricted.
— Heather J. Tanner, "Queenship: Office, Custom or Ad Hoc", Eleanor of Aquitaine: Lord and Lady (Edited by Bonnie Wheeler and John Carmi Parsons)
#this is so interesting when it comes to the gradual evolution of queenship over the years (post-Norman to early modern)#eleanor of aquitaine#matilda of boulogne#queenship tag#historicwomendaily#english history#my post#don't reblog these tags but#the irony of the 'Eleanor of Aquitaine Exceptionalism' rhetoric is that not only is it untrue#but you could actually make a much more realistic argument in the opposite direction#We know that it was during Eleanor's time as queen of France that 'the queen's name was disappearing from royal documents' (Ralph Turner)#She did not enjoy an involvement in royal governance that her mother-in-law Adelaide of Maurienne enjoyed during her time as queen#As Facinger points out 'no sources support the historical view of Eleanor as bold precocious and responsible for Louis VII's behavior'#Even as Duchess of Aquitaine she played a secondary role to Louis who appointed his own officials to the Duchy#Only four out of her seventeen ‘Aquitanian’ charters seem to have been initiated by Eleanor herself#And now it seems that even Eleanor's role as queen of England was also more restricted than her predecessors#with new coronation model that was far more gendered and 'domestic' in nature#That's not to argue that it meant a reduction in the queen's importance but it does mean that the 'importance' took on a different form#There's also the fact that Eleanor's imprisonment and forced subjugation to Henry after the rebellion till the end of her life#was probably what set the precedent for her sons' 'Lord Rules All' approach with their own wives (Berengaria and Isabella)#as Gabrielle Storey has suggested#None of this is meant to downplay Eleanor's power or the impact of her actions across Europe - both of which were extensive and spectacular#But it does mean that the myth of her exceptionalism is not just incorrect but flat-out ridiculous

If Lucky Luke #13 didn't let it clear that Luke likes Waldo, Lucky Luke #74 spits it out at your face! Hahaha!

Love the fact that, the only reason of why Waldo didn't left with Luke, was because the comic needed Luke to sing his "Lonesome Cowboy" song.

#lucky luke#funny how Waldo's colour palette fits perfectly with Luke#Waldo's ugly yellow suit = Luke's ugly yellow shirt#if one reads the LL74 very carefully you'll notice that their movements are synchonized!#funny how Waldo's character looks as if he was the anthropomorphic version of Jolly... if Jolly was from Europe#new ship unlocked btw

Ok dude to a recent post of yours is have to know what other plants are sluts?
Rhododendron is the QUEEN of sluts. It will not STOP. Uprooting this fast-growing monstrosity is dick and half a ball because it has strong roots and woody stems; UK conservationists hate this stuff.
The most monstrous slut, Colonel War Crimes of the slut kingdom, is Giant Hogweed. Not ONLY is it voracious, not only is it huge, but this plant is NOXIOUS. You have to sequester it off when you see it and eradicate it in PPE. Actively dangerous just to stand around.
Other sluts are sitka spruces, mile-a-minuteweed, japanese honeysuckle, skunk cabbage... very aggressive invaders. The UK is under seige with invasive species since the island is REALLY unique in its soil chemistry. Once you deacidify it, you have a hard time fixing that.
#Funfact! Earthworms are invasive to America and they came from Europe/UK#American forests did not evolve for earthworms to break down leaf litter the way they do#The UK did#Im noticing that in the uk there's a theme of having large and small animals (humans worms hogs)--#That churn the soil in some way and the ecosystem really being built around that#So when you get a new plant that fucks with that cycle it causes brand new problems#Especially pioneer plants that would ANYWHERE ELSE help fix an environment#But moor and bog is *supposed* to be like this#Cw vulgar language#Bone babble

In retrospect, I'm really sleeping on the morbid hilarity of Draxum's people leaving the Faroes for New York. Considering they left due to humans fucking up their shit and trying to drive them off their land, and considering the time and place these humans were likely a mixture of Norse settlers and people from the British Isles. So they travel across the fucking ocean to settle in a new land where the local humans are more accepting, more willing to work with them, and maybe they aren't all best friends but they leave each other alone and are willing to work/trade with each other if necessity demands it. For a few centuries, everything was relatively chill.
And then who fucking shows up?
#okay i know the british who settled in the faroes would have been gaels and picts who were not the british who colonized the americas#BUT the normans were descended from vikings and were doing viking bullshit#and by that point the normans were pretty wholly integrated into the anglo-saxons so there was a lot of norman influence in british culture#so i don't think the yokai would really make the distinction#“ugh those viking wannabes followed us across the goddamn ocean”#honestly this goes for most of the yokai from western europe#the spanish and the french both showed up in new york and the dutch colonized it initially#you move across the ocean to get away from europeans and who shoes up? europeans#look i'm norwegian i'm allowed to make fun of the norse#i don't have a reason why western europeans were more murdery towards the yokai probably for the same reasons they did colonization#rapid industrialization and newfound ability to kill and expand that people really didn't have access to before
