I have a question, what do Earth and Titan think of each other?

Earth: I once gave him a rose and he seemed enamoured by it! It was kinda cute. He said he'd love to have kept it at home when he finally learned how to grow one someday... I hope he does. Titan: Seeing that rose for the first time was an experience... it made me want to work harder at being able to sustain life like his! I hope someday I'll be able to achieve that. Earth is so cool!

He was amazed by that rose so much, that he tried to replicate it from memory with his atmosphere.

Titan is actually a fanboy for Earth! He's always looked up to Earth as a role model. Because of this, sometimes Saturn does invite Earth over for a cup of tea so that they can have a chat. Titan is pretty shy though, compared to the outgoing Earth and Saturn!

It was said there was an ice volcano nicknamed "The Rose" on Titan's surface, now better known as Sotra Patera.

Just wanted to thank you for taking the time and effort to put together the long climate/environment post, especially the online resources. I've wanted to replace the neglected/dead non-native plants at my place with native plants for months, but didn't know where to start my search for species except to walk around my local nature preserve trying to find something that isn't invasive lol. I'll be able to start (re)introducing native plants this month because of you :-)

Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad the post has been helpful and inspiring. If you'd like more directed guidance on native plants, I can probably point you in the right direction if you can give me a general area to work with (state would suffice!). In general, go for keystone species- those that are common in your area and support many kinds of insects- or pollinator favorites, or host plants for rare/imperiled butterflies/bees/moths.

I find it so interesting that despite using Latin surnames, Muir doesn't care about gender agreement until it comes to Kiriona.

Harrow and Ianthe both have masculine surnames (Nonagesimus and Tridentarius), as do most characters with Latin name endings (us, a, um), but Kiriona? Oh there's something very interesting there.

In Ancient Rome, male citizens were commonly distinguished by three part names: praenomen, nomen, and cognomen. Since I'm still feeling festive, take Gaius Iulius Caesar. His praenomen is Gaius, and is equivalent to a "first name." Iulius is his nomen, and tells which "gens" or tribe he belonged to, in this case the Iulia. And his cognomen is his personal last name, which is what he was known by in public life. There are a bunch of other names that were also used (why keep anything simple), but it's important to note that women, generally, did not have three part names, and were known by their fathers' gens names, feminized, as well as their cognomen (also feminized).

So as "Kiriona" is Maori for "Gideon," it ties Kiriona to her heritage; a gens name telling where she and Jod came from. And "Gaia" is the feminine form of John's "cognomen."

Which stands out first because Kiriona is not particularly feminine, and that could be Muir's attempt to give her that connection (which might have been harder otherwise since she's a prince now), but because her name is also the only one that follows Roman naming conventions, it ties her to him in entirety. It's not just that she's John's daughter, it's that she has no identity outside him now; she is him. A piece of him more than a full version of herself.

Night Thoughts

When I was a lad growing up I always used to find it very relaxing looking up at the sky. Whether it was on a summer afternoon or in the early morning hours it didn’t matter. I always found great solace in it all. Now as I lay here in the garden dictating this blog onto my iPhone the time is 3.13am it has been a calm night. You hear the sounds of a few cars that go by and a rustling of the leaves from the trees but apart from all the expected noises, it’s been a very calm night.

Each experience feels uniquely personal, a journey into the vastness of the universe and the depths of one's own thoughts. You can really lose yourself. If you let it. It's a symphony of serenity, inviting you to pause, to breathe, and to simply be. 

As you recline on the soft bed of grass, the cool earth cradles you, grounding you in the present moment. The worries of the day melt away, replaced by a sense of wonder and awe as you gaze upward.

Above, the canvas of the sky unfolds, dotted with countless stars shimmering like diamonds strewn across black velvet. Each pinprick of light tells a story, a tale of cosmic beauty and mystery that stretches across eons.

The constellations, those celestial patterns etched into the heavens by ancient civilisations, seem to come alive as you connect the dots, tracing the outlines of mythical beasts and legendary heroes. It's a reminder of humanity's enduring fascination with the stars, our quest to understand the universe and our place within it.
