Parings: lando norris x gf!reader.
Summary: after the Brazil GP, lando comes home to the worst week of his year. Also, it was his birthday. So even though the world hates him, you wanna make sure he is loved and he did nothing wrong. And that if you could you would set the world on fire for him.
Word count: +5k.
Warnings: angst and fluff at the same time. Anxiety attack. Overthinking. Selfhatred. Language. And thatâs it. Iâm not a native English speaker so there could be (so many) errors. Not proofread.

MASTERLIST
Your heart was completely shattered. Your heart was racing to get out of your car at the airport. In exactly 20 minutes your boyfriend will be back home after the worst weekend ever imagined. You couldn't assist the Brazilian GP because of your work schedule. You had a few meetings after Mexico gp. And you felt so guilty about it. You knew lando would be more protected if you were there. At least in the intimacy of you, emotionally speaking. Having someone there for him to hug and to comfort him. to calm his mind. To stop the self hatred you knew it was playing right now in his head.Â
Lando is an overthinker and you get him because you were also one. You knew to which scenarios his mind can travel to and how painful it can be for him to live with himself sometimes. You were fighting your tears reading all of the atrocious things people commented online. You knew that wasn't real life. But you also knew he would see all that and how that would weigh in his heart. They can never let him win. And the worst part was only because it was just him. Other drivers could do or say worse things and everybody would laugh and brush it off. But when it came to Lando, he was a monster, a loser, an arrogant son of a bitch. That hurt deeply. Because in reality lando is the sweetest soul you have ever met. And you knew how vulnerable he could be. Tho you always admired him for that. You always thought that the bravest and strongest people in this world are the ones that admit to need help, the ones that are vulnerable and open about it. In a world this cruel, that was no easy task. But he did time and time again.and he did even knowing how shitty people were gonna be to him. Though, he did it for people he knew that counted on him. Lando always talks about how people sometimes come to him saying he has saved their lives and the impact he had on them. It's something beautiful yet that weighted on his shoulders as well, you thought.Â
You crossed the airport gates. Anxiety shaking your whole body. You wanted to hug him so bad. To tell him everything was gonna be fine.Â
You opened the flight information he sent you before his plane took off so you looked for the probable gate he was coming out of when landed. Even though you were anxious you were also relieved that he was home with you.
After a few minutes passed by, a lot of people started coming out of the door you were waiting for. You started gazing at everyone just to find him. After a bunch of people got out, there he was. One of the last ones to go through the door. When you saw him your body almost came undone. You were out of air for a moment while the two of you got closer. When he is finally within reach, you give him the strongest hug you could. He melted on you, hugging you by your neck. Not much time passed when you heard him crying hid in your neck. Your heart that was shattered, broke immediately. You tighter your grip unto him. He started to sob and you couldn't hold your own tears at that point. You knew he had the worst time on that flight, alone with his cruel thoughts torturing him for hours. And there was nothing that you could do to protect him. You couldn't say a word. There was nothing that you could say that it would make things better right now.Â
Lando was sobbing and shaking. His levels of anxiety reached a high when he saw you standing there looking for him desperately with your eyes. He needed you. But lifeâs a bitch and you couldn't stay with him throughout the whole American leg. He came undone in your arms. He needed to hug you for so long. He was broken. His mind replying to all the mistakes he made. All of his wrong decisions. All of the shit he said. He was embarrassed, angry and defeated. He was ashamed of himself. Disgusted. Frustrated and scared. Â
Yu rubbed his back trying to comfort him in the hug and trying to not cry so you could be the strong one for him. He needed you, you knew it. And you wanted to fix all of this in a snap of fingers, but you couldn't.Â
âItâs okay baby. You are gonna be alright, I promise. I love you. Youâre home now ", Yu said, to make him feel at least slightly better. When he heard you he started sobbing even harder. You let him take all the time he needed. While doing so, you tried to see where you were and how you could, if someone was recording and taking a picture. Fortunately you were almost alone. It was the last flight arriving for today. You feel relieved knowing this won't be used against him by the cruel internet trolls.Â
(...)
The drive home was silent. No music, no speaking. He didn't even look at you the whole ride. He was looking through the window avoiding any contact with society you thought while driving your Audi R8 V10 GT RWD through the illuminated Monaco streets. It was around 9pm. You had cooked for him some home made pasta you knew he adored. You just wanted him to feel better.Â
When you got home, he took his bags to the room with your help. You left his second suitcase next to his wardrobe and saw him lying on the bed.
âI made your fav homemade pasta. Do you want me to bring it here and eat it in bed?â you offered him with a soft voice. He was looking to the ceiling. He did not answer right away, but after a few moments he did.
âI'm not hungry, but thank you. Maybe i'll eat laterâ he said with a deep cracky voice and turned himself in the bed showing you his back. You frowned a bit.Â
He couldn't look at you. He hated that you could see him like this. He was ashamed of himself drawing in self pity and self hatred. He felt he let you down.Â
âAln, did you eat something during the flight at least?â you asked worriedly, walking forward to the bed so you could get closer to him. You sat on the table next to his back looking at him. You didn't want to touch him just because you didn't know if he would want you to. You didn't want to be invasive. You stayed in silence for a few minutes. You understood he didn't eat, that he didn't want to either or speak. So you stood up and let him have his alone time closing the door gently behind your back.
You ate alone that night.in silence just as if you could hear him from your kitchen aisle. The past was really good. You turned off your phone after washing the dishes and tidied the kitchen and living room up. You didn't want to see what social media was saying about your lover before bed. It was already enough scrolling and reading so many people wishing lando to die. That was the hardest part of it all. You left your phone charging on the kitchen counter and went to your shared room. When you entered he was already showered getting into the bed again. You half smiled at him even though he couldn't see you. You put on your pajamas in silence and climbed up the bed. He looked at you while you were getting comfortable next to him.Â
Your eyes met. Any of you said anything. Just looked at each other trying to read each other thought as if that was possible. He licked his dry lips. His eyes turned glassy.
âI messed everything up,â he said almost in a whisper. Your heart is breaking again. You shook your head at him getting closer and bringing him into your chest. You hugged him tightly.
âNo you didnt baby. Sometimes people are just mean, you know? They will interpret things as the wishâ you said softly rubbing his back and arm and caressing his hair gently. He felt a bit better under your frame. He felt protected but as a little kid when missbehaved so now he tries to find comfort. He didn't want to cry.he was trying hard not to let tears stream down his cheeks. You kissed his forehead and made him look at you. âI know you dont wanna talk about it but i love and i am so deeply and entirely proud of youâ you whisper close to his face. You saw him pout and the first tears coming down his face. You hugged him tightly. He hid in your neck and eventually fell asleep. You wanted to set the world on fire for this. You wanted to ruin every single person who says awful things about it. The comments, the media. You wanted to destroy everything and everyone just to protect him. He doesn't deserve this. He is an angel and you can't believe the world could only see the devil in him.Â
Lando tried to sleep but he couldn't. Everytime he closed his eyes, all of the tragic scenes from the race replayed in his mind. How the car felt, the rain, the radio messages, Oscar's voice, comments from his engineer . everything replayed in his head torturing him the worst way possible. He felt like getting down. He felt alone and miserable. He remembered Oscar words replying in his mind over and over again. âYou will eventually make it, mateâ. It was a positive message but he replayed it like a fucking nightmare.Â
What if he never makes it? What if he doesn't have what it takes? What if people are right? What if he is actually a monster and deserves to die? What if he did? Would they like him again or figure him out? Would anyone care about his feelings? Why does it have to be him and not someone else? Why are they all so cruel to him?
He couldn't stop thinking about every single detail about the weekend. He didn't want to celebrate his birthday anymore. He had you there but couldn't look at you. He felt disgusted by himself. He can't control it. He wants to go back into go karts and stop the time when he was actually happy and having fun with his friends. Now that line between friends and enemies is so blurry for him. Max didn't talk to him like before when all of this shit started. He knew Max was really competitive, of course he did, everyone knew it since day 1. But what about their friendship? Lando shit talked, max shit talked. He felt so confused even by his own feelings around this whole shitty situation or championship situation. Whatever you want to call it.Â
(...)
When you woke up the next morning he was gone. You felt kind of confused for a bit. You heard him talking so you guessed he was speaking on the phone. When you got up from bed you walked out the room to find him. When you got closer to the living room you knew he was talking to Max on facetime because you heard his voice.Â
âMorning, guysâ you said, getting into the kitchen for some water to take your thyroid pills. Lando looked at you half-smile.Â
âGood morning babyâ he said as sweetly as he could. You smiled at him. Before coming back to your room to shower and stuff you went and gave him a good morning kiss making Max almost throw up when he saw you in a funny way. You showed him the middle finger and disappeared so he could talk in private with his mate. You respected his place a lot. And i guess thatâs why you understand so much each other.Â
(...)
The following day things got worse. Lando hasn't eaten any meal you prepared for him, didn't even want to have take out or anything. You found him crying in the kitchen and in the garden by the pool of your house. His anxiety was killing him, you knew. The desperation and guilt were eating him alive and you didn't know what to do rather than try to talk and comfort him.
He was sitting on the sofa in the living room. His sight was fixed on the floor without moving. You got alarmed because you knew what was going on. You got close slowly to not trigger him even more. His face was red, his hands sweaty and shaking. You sat on the floor diagonal from him looking at him. Slowly and gently you grabbed his hands trying to capture his brain's attention and get him out of the fog he was in. You were almost sure he was having an anxiety attack and he started because of your touch. You gently rubbed your fingers in his hands. He was out of breath for a moment and you got scared so you tried to do as your therapist told you in case someone you know goes through this.Â
âLan, can you hear me? Try to pay attention to my voice okay? I'm here and I'm with you dull be alrightâ you said really softly trying to make him look at you. You looked for his eyes with your gaze. âItâs not as terrible as you think, baby, I promise. You aren't all of those things people commentâ you used your words carefully. His hands caught your strength and so you reassured him. You saw his pout becoming deeper. You hurt to see him like this. It was so unfair. He doesnt deserve this, god. And he broke. He broke down again. His tears streamed down his face. Sobbing in so much pain. You sat next to him to hug him tightly once more. But now you knew it was worse. He was shaking under your arms.you let him go through this. So he can let go of all of this shit inside him. âI promise lando, you aren't all of those things. People are just mean and cruel. You are a good baby and so talented. Gifted. You have it in you I promise, I can see itâ you tried to comfort him with your words as well, trying to distract your mind from the tragic thought he was dealing with by himself. A few tears fell down your face. It was a hard time. And you were trying to be strong for him.Â
âI'm so stupid I'm sorryâ he sobbed and you shook your head.Â
âNo, Lando, you aren't. I promise okay? Believe me.i know you and you aren't. And this will pass. All the people that know you for real, we love you and we are so proud of you. You had an amazing year. You are fucking fighting a three time world champion, even sooner than he did with lewis back in 2021. Thatâs huge my love. Your dream is near, I just know it. Because I know you, and youâll make it, baby. You didn't let anyone down. You're getting stronger so when you finally make it, all of these moments will make it taste so much better and sweeterâ you explained while rubbing his back. Your words made an effect on him. Heslowly calming down. He didn't want to let you go. He wanted to just stay there in your arms. Where he felt safe and sound. Noone could hurt him there. That was what made him fall for you. You saw him. You knew him. And you care about him. He was finally important for someone for being lando, and not lando norris formula one driver. His past lovers left him feeling confused whether they loved him for him or their idea of him. You came outta nowhere and blew him away. You were brutally honest, no filter yet so gentle and caring with your words. He thought his perfect girl didn't exist but then there was you, listening to him for hours if he needed to. Giving him the best advice and clearing his perspective. Always cheering him up. Cracking jokes so he could distract and feel relaxed. Heknew he was in love with you the moment you offered to give him a ride because he was drunk as well at a new years party. It was normal but the fact that a stranger could do that for him blew his mind. He never admitted afraid people would think itâs weird. But it is what it is. Your smile ended him right there and when you started cracking jokes he didn't want to live in that damn car for the rest of his life. So here you are 4 years later, and you still be the greatest person in the world and the one who knew him the most. He felt your lips on his forehead. For a moment he thought about leaving racing. What if his life was better without it in it? He could go back to Bristol and be with his friends. With you. Maybe start a family and have a normal job so you could spend each day together. He started crying again at that thought. He loved racing but this year was the hardest yet amazing one.Â
He finally calmed down after a few minutes in silence. He looked at you with puppy eyes. You caressed his face gently brushing a few tears falling down still.Â
âWould you be there with me? Could you?â he asked, making you a bit confused. And he noticed. âTo the races. I need you there. Please. To every race and when I become a champion, would you be there with me? You could feel he's scared. You half smiled at him melting as his comment.
âOf course I'll be there, baby. Iâll always be there for and with you. If I could , I would set the whole world on fire just for you. Never doubt it, okay?â he nodded and you pulled him closer to give him so many little kisses around his whole face making him gigle a little.Â
âI love you, y/nâ he said looking at you fondly.
âI love you, lando. Everythingâs gonna be alrightâ you said, assuring him and gave a peck on his lips. âGo have a shower and dress cute im gonna take you out on a date before your birthdayâ you said more lighful to cheer him up and his face lit up.
âReally?â you noddedat him and send him to shower agin funny. Before going with him so yhou both looked facy, you needed to say something to the world. You couldnt stay crossed arms and do nothing about it.Â

You turned off your phone once again. You were already so fed up with it all. Let them talk. You were sure they would choke with their own shit eventually.Â
but continued with the day. Lando was still a little off but he was looking better so maybe he is actually feeling better. You took out to dinner at a restaurant he always dreamed of going to. He was so happy to be there. The food was delicious. It was near the beach though it is colder here so we looked at it through the glass window. You gossip and talk about anything and everything as if everything was alright. And it was a fact it was. Because this is real life. Not social media. A few people stopped you while eating to ask for pictures and Lando said yes every time you even became a photoshoot photographer. Nice people telling him nice things was what he needed right now. Plus, you would never be pissed off by his fans. You were actually grateful for them. Of course, some can be disrespectful but you knew the real one was it. You really embraced Lando's life even though itâs nothing like the life youâd dreamed of to have one day. But he is the boy of your dreams so why would it be a problem.Â
November, 13th
When the clock hit midnight, the restaurant made a cake for him so we all sang him happy birthday. You chose his favorite type of cake. He giggled all nervous and shy. His cheeks red while his eyes showed a little sparkle while watching the candles. He blew them. You recorded the whole thing and took so many pictures. He thanked the staff and staff of the restaurant and they let you enjoy the cake in comfort. Your heart was full to see him a little back again.Â
After The restaurant kicked you out because they needed to close, you decided to do a road trip through the mountains of monaco. You always enjoy a good ride with good music and good company. And you also had sex in the car. You kind of guessed he needed to take his frustrations out somehow because you had the rough sex you really enjoyed. He joked it was his best birthday present making you laugh. He was joking again.Â
âThank youâ he said while gently rubbing your naked chest. You were seated on him. You smiled and leaned for a soft kiss on his lips. You really loved him. And all you wanted for him was happiness and well being. And you would do anything to make sure he is okay.Â
You came back home and had another round of sex. Enjoying yourselves in intimacy. Lando finally fell asleep after a terrible few days, in the calm of your body. His face on your bare chest. You clothed him and fell asleep relieved.

yourusername: What can I say about you? There's no words that can describe your greatness. Or my feelings for you. I'm so grateful you were born on November 13th. 25 years ago my best friend and the love of my life was brought to this world. And sometimes what unfair is that, right? A world that is so cruel to you. A world that doesn't deserve your greatness and kindness nor your attention. You are the greatest son, brother, uncle, friend and lover. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't actually know you. We are all so lucky that you choose us to spend your time on this world with. Thank you for being who you care. For caring about the people you love and making sure we are alright and happy. Thank you for being the light that you are for so many lives. Thank you for being vulnerable. I admire you so much, lan. You are the strongest and bravest human I know. so honest and open. Anyone who says otherwise, actually, doesn't know you. I know this is not the best birthday of your life, but I promise you I'll try to make it better. Thank you for being who you are to me. I promise I see you and I care. You're the love of my life. And I'm so lucky you love me over any other human out there. So happy birthday to the prettiest and most genuine, real, fun, kind, warm person I have the chance to call mine everyday. Hope you have the best day you can have right now. Thatâs the least you deserve. I love you forever bestie. Donât ever change.

So you had a master plan for Lando's birthday. You went to the Hilton hotel for some coffee with Max and Lando of course. We lied and said pietra couldn't make it because she had a meeting and Lando believed. Truth was, you have contacted all of his friends and arregened flights so everyone could make it to Monaco on time. Pietra was the one in your house. You left her a spare key yesterday evening after coffee with alex. You gave her the directions and the idea of what you wanted while you and Max distracted Lando until 7pm, she decorated the house and received all of his friends. Lando had no clue of what was going on but he was so happy it was the second cake you brought to him. You recorded the moment and seeing him smile made your heart melt.Â

When 7pm came around we all âdecidedâ to go to your house and eat pizza for dinner. Lando even said to me that they could do a stream and have fun for a bit. You agreed and all knowing that wasn't gonna happen. The ride home was so much fun. You spent the 20 minute ride screaming a one direction song from the top of your lungs. You sang Lando âthrough the darkâ And he sang âYou and iâ.it was lovely, Max almost threw up when you kissed. Luckily he was driving so he hadn't watched much of your pda.Â
You got out of the car trying to play it cool though you were so nervous. You saw Max texting Pietra that you were close.the lights were off. And silent. Your nervousness took over you when you tried to open the door but let the keys fall nervously. Thankfully Max and Lando were discussing which type of pizza they would order. Finally you opened the door, lando behind you and so you turned on the lights.
Everyone jumped from everywhere saying happy birthday in unison. Yoursmile was so big but when you saw lando his smile was even bigger.
âSurprise!â you said and lando was still processing it. But when his friend started hugging him he started crying out of joy. He thought his friends weren't coming this year because of their busy schedule.but that was a lie you made them tell so lando wouldn suspect anything. Fortunately, they all kept the secret safe. Lando was so happy.Â
You all spent the night playing poker, drinking gin and tonics and surrounded by laughter and love. In the moment, around everybody, you felt lucky to be there. Especially to be in landos life. Everyone was so sweet and good just like him. He deserves the world.
Everyone went home around 2 am. You were exhausted and tipsy at the end of the night. So you put your pajamas on and sled straight on the bed. Lando wrapped his arms around your waist.
âThank you for everything. It was a great birthday. Thank u for always taking care of me always.you make me the happiestâ he said under a whisper looking at you. He looked so gorgeous with that little smile and tired eyes. You stroked his cheek gently, smiling.Â
âYou deserve to be happy darling. You are unstoppable. Better days at work will come,I know.but im grateful that you have so much love surrounding you. I love youâ he smiled widely listening to you and leaned to kiss you with so much feelings and passion. You were the greatest thing that ever happened to him and also the greatest decision he has ever made when he asked you out.

Lando was asked about the whole drama around the Brazil gp and his birthday and her statement and he said âIâm lucky to have her. I would set the world on fire for her. So yeah. We are the same that is why we work so well. It was a great birthday though. She brought my whole group of friend to Monaco for a poker night so yeahâ also he said that if it wasnât for her he wouldâve collapsed on his overthinking but thankfully she was there. We love a power couple on the grid!! What do we think about all of this? #LasVegasGP2024

It was the day. The day you were back to media duties. Back to being a target for social media. Back supporting your boyfriend no matter what. You even went on media day to be there for him if he needed it. You chatted with everyone around to entertain yourself while he was doing interviews.Â
Oscar helped a lot and the whole McLaren team to make Lando feel safe and actually enjoy the weekend. You Were grateful for it. At least they decided not to be dicks in front of his face.Â
Fp1 was about to start and you were proudly there in the garage to cheer on him. You were also anxious because you felt things almost like him and this competition is rather never racking. You kissed him gently but shortly. A good luck kiss before getting into the car. He smiled widely.Â
âGo be the best you can be. Youâre greatâ you told him sweetly.
âI'll try my best to impress you,â he replied, letting go of your hand.Â
âYou already do everyday babeâ you said smiling making him grin before walking into the car to start the first session of the weekend.Â
You watched from there how fp1 unfolded hoping this would be a great weekend.

ready (klaus mikaelson)
plot: klaus always knew that one day you'd take him up on his offer.
character: female vampire reader x klaus mikaelson
inspired by something similar he says to caroline
"One day, love, you'll come to me. Might be in two years, might be two hundred but mark my words, you'll realise I was right along. I am the only one who can fulfil your wildest desires and your largest dreams. When you realise that, you'll come knocking on my door and then... well, love, then I'll give you the world."
It had been three and a half years since Klaus Mikaelson had said this to you. Three long years. He'd came into your life as a villain, you were supposed to hate him. He had killed, harmed and tortured so many of your friends (and his sister had tortured you a fair few times) and yet, he was always so delicate and gentle with you. He'd been interested in you pretty much ever since he came to Mystic Falls. You'd hated him... or at least, you tried.
He had gotten under your skin all of those years ago. He'd saved you too many times to count. He had shown you kindness and compassion, had recognised you for who you were; Klaus had seen you. You'd gotten to see a glimpse of the human side to him, not the scary big bad wolf, you'd started to see him. And when he left, with an invite extended your way, it took everything in you to say no.
Klaus hadn't stepped foot in Mystic Falls since he left and yet, every few months or so, he would write to you. Seldom did you respond but you enjoyed reading about his travels. Each time he wrote, he would send photos of the new place he was visiting usually with a list of reasons as to why you'd love it there with drawings he'd done and every single time he wrote, he attached a plane ticket to whatever destination with your name on it. You never used them, instead they gathered dust in a drawer which was full of his old letters. Klaus also always wrote exactly where he was staying at the end of the letter so you knew exactly how to get to him. Periodically, you'd go through and read some of them. They always smelled like him and had the same send off each time.
'Unequivocally yours, Klaus'
You knew that if you needed him, he would be there immediately. He had promised you as such. And the one time you called for help when Caroline got bit by a werewolf, Klaus couldn't be there in person but he sent Elijah with a few vials of his blood (extras for any future emergencies). He would do anything for you and all he wanted was the chance to show you as such.
So when this month's letter arrived with details of his new adventure complete with a plane ticket to Italy, you decided to take the chance you'd regretted not taking three and a half years prior. Your friends were oddly supportive which surprised you but Bonnie had told you she wanted you to be happy and if he's what made you happy then so be it. Damon wasn't impressed but he rarely ever was. Stefan urged you to your happy ending. Caroline approved, she'd seen the way Klaus would've done anything for you so even though she didn't like him, she knew that he was the real deal. Elena was supportive, she'd gone for the 'bad guy' in Damon so she understood the inner conflict and told you that it was okay to let yourself be happy.
So, you packed a bag and headed to Italy.
Getting there was the easy bit; the hard bit was finding the courage to knock on the front door. Your heart hammered in your chest as you stood on the grounds of what you could only describe as a small castle. It was beautiful, with glorious gardens and fragrant flowers. You swallowed hard before taking a breath, this is what you came for, and you knocked three times.
After a few seconds, you could hear someone's voice approaching. Klaus.
"-I didn't ask you to go to such lengths, brother, though I have to say I do appreciate it-"
He opened the door and his expression turned from one of mild annoyance to complete shock.
"Elijah, more important matters have emerged, I'll speak to you later." He hung up, pocketing his phone quickly. He looked good. The Italian sun suited him, turning his hair a shade blonder and making his blue eyes pop, "(y/n)..." A slow, wide smile spread onto his face.
You swallowed hard, "Hi, Klaus."
He stepped aside, silently inviting you into his castle, and with a small smile you breezed past him. He closed the door and led you through to a grand room with various couches and paintings. You looked around incredulously, "This place... it's incredible."
Klaus smiled, "I told you that you'd like this one."
You looked at him and felt nerves bubble in your stomach. You'd came all this way and now... you didn't know what to do. Klaus eyed you curiously, trying to gauge how you were feeling, "Do you need something?" Oh, how he hoped that you were here for him but he had to be sure.
You shook your head, finding words too hard to find, and instead looked back to the paintings, "These are beautiful, did you do these?"
Klaus appeared at your side, making you jump slightly, "Sorry, love," he smirked. He was so close to you, so near that you could smell his cologne. Your heart raced. His hand reached out past you to touch the painting, "I painted all of these, yes. This one is my favourite."
"The colours are lovely," you nodded.
Klaus smiled, quickly vanishing and then returning to your side, "Here, look in the mirror and then look at the painting."
You frowned at him but complied regardless of your confusion. He handed you a small hand mirror which you looked into and then at the painting, "I don't get it," you said to which he urged you to look again and then you realised, "my eyes."
Klaus grinned, "There we go, love," he beamed proudly, "my favourite colours and shades to use. They crop up a lot in my paintings. Go, look," he encouraged you forwards, "take a look and you'll see how often you feature in my paintings."
For a moment, you walked around the room, soaking in the subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) hints of your eye colour in every single one of his paintings. It touched you causing you to feel warm inside and you couldn't understand why. You looked at him. He stood on the other side of the room watching you with awe filled eyes, "But why?" You asked softly with tears filling your eyes, "Why me?"
In an instant, he was in front of you, chest touching yours, with his eyes locked with yours, "Oh, love," he whispered, hand reaching out to graze your cheek softly, "It's always been you."
You looked up at him, "You asked me if I needed something earlier." Klaus's brow furrowed and his hand stilled - fear; fear that you weren't here for him, fear that you needed something and then you'd disappear again. "I do need something, Klaus."
"Anything."
"I want... I need you." Your admission was quiet but he heard you loud and clear, "For years, I've regretted saying no to your offer to come with you. I want to live, Klaus. I want to be free. I want to be happy and that means letting myself be happy with... you."
"Me?" Klaus asked.
You nodded as your own hand found its way to rest on his chest, "I'm ready to fall in love with you, Klaus. I just hope I'm not too late."
He grinned, wider than you'd ever seen him smile, "You're right on time, love," he said before his lips crashed to yours. And for the first time ever, you let yourself give in.

EAST OF THE SUN | PART IV
âAemond has always been very jealous over you," Jace said doubtfully. "And protective.â âNot because he wants to bed me,â you dismissed, sipping on your wine. âI was his only friend for a long time, so naturally he likes to hoard my company. And he likely is only so protective of me because he thinks of me as a kind of elder sister to him.â âAhâso you mean he wants to bed you and wed you.â You choked on your drink, giving Jacaerys a scandalised look.

SERIES SUMMARY & MASTERLIST.
XII. FIVE OF SWORDS
You did not really know what to think of Rhaenyra Targaryen.
On a political level, you did not think highly of her. Once you were old enough to understand your role in courtâthat is, a womb to be eventually traded in return for gold or swords or supportâyou became confused with Rhaenyraâs behaviour. She married Ser Laenor Velaryon and then immediately began to fornicate with another man, which was fine. But it was strange that she chose a man with fair skin and dark hair for her paramour, rather than someone who looked more like Ser Laenor, and it jeopardised her standing in court. It felt silly to you, and was one of the reasons why, at the tender age of ten, you vowed to marry a handsome lord who was inclined to desire women: if you were too busy being happily bedded by your husband, then you would not have the time or wherewithal to lay with another man and give birth to any bastards. (Certainly, you would not be interested in having any affairs if Cregan Stark was your lawful husband.)
On a personal level, you misliked Rhaenyra. You had never forgiven her for Aemondâs eye. As a child you had been furious at turns with Jace, Luke, and Aemond for the debacle, but as an adult you could not fault three children for an accident. What you did fault was Rhaenyraâs actions following it: treating Aemondâs eye like it was an afterthought to the bastardy talk, as if her son had not just irreversibly rendered him half-blind. As if Aemond did not lay feverish in bed for weeks after, as if he did not need to spend months retraining his body to his altered vision, as if he were not twice as vulnerable to attacks from bullies and swords and morningstars. As if he did not need to live with the knowledge that his very body was a disposable thing to his father, something that could be overlooked so long as Rhaenyraâs claim could be protected.
Noâyou did not like Rhaenyra.
You were certain that Rhaenyra did not feel so poorly about you, however. She never concerned herself with you when you were a child, and you did not fault her for it: you were not close in age, and she was heir apparent to the throne. She mostly knew you as someone whom Jace had befriended, and she liked you for it. Occasionally she would invite you to dinner with them in the Small Hall, or let you break your fast with her family. Sometimes she would talk with you then, and humour your questions about the Small Council (Do they know where my father is? Will they banish me from the Red Keep? Is the Hand really going to betrothe me to an old man?), and sometimes she would look at you with something close to pity.
Rhaenyra probably did think well of you. Still, it felt like an obvious lie when she called you into her chambers the day after your fatherâs funeral and said, âYou know I have always been very fond of you.â
âThank you, Princess,â you said graciously, immediately. âI have always been so grateful for your kindness, and especially for allowing me to spend time with Jacaerys.â
She smiled at you. You returned it, careful not to let the wariness show in your eyes.
âIt was the least I could do. I owed it to your fatherâhe was very kind to me. He would sail back from Lys and bring me trinkets, and I loved them so. I do not think Prince Daemon liked the attention he gave me, however.â
You shuddered to think of the suggestion of romantic jealousy between Daemon, your father, and Rhaenyra. You truly would walk into the sea if she disclosed a sordid relationship between herself and your father right now.
Outwardly, however, you only gave her a sentimental look. âI had never known that. Were the two of you close?â
âHe was often away from Kingâs Landing, so I knew him not wellâbut I knew him well enough. And my husband, of course, was fond of him.â She smiled. âNow that your father is gone, Daemon and I feel that it is only right that we care for you.â
You did not comment on the fact that your father had been gone for nearly ten years already. âOh,â you said, your eyes growing hot as you remembered to cry. The tears were easy to summon and mostly from frustration at knowing that your fatherâs death was being used in these petty games of court, but Rhaenyra need not know that. âThat'sâthatâs very kind of you.â
âI know Jacaerys is very fond of you too,â she continued. âIf you need to continue leaning on him, know that I will be happy to see it.â
âOf course.â You wiped your eyes. âI am ever so thankful for his help during my petition. And your husbandâs too. It is a kindness I cannot repay.â
âAs I said, it is only right.â Rhaenyra gave you a long look, then seemed to make a decision. She reached for something on the table beside her, then placed a velvet box in front of you. âPleaseâtake this.â
Your look of surprise was genuine when you opened it. Inside was a pair of earringsâfrom the rippling sheen of the reflected light, Valyrian steel, so dark that it was nearly black. Rubies glimmered among the delicate metalwork, a bold red. You knew only of one person who had ever worn jewellery like this: âMy motherâs?â
âNot quite, but close. Your father brought it back from one of his trips to Lys and gifted these to me, but I have not had much chance to wear them as of lateâthey are a young personâs jewels.â She gave you a look that was distinctly motherly, which made you feel distinctly uncomfortable. âI feel that it is only right that these go to you, rather than being wasted on my vanity.â
âOh,â you breathed. âThank you, Princess.â
You had a feeling where she would be going with this.
âIt would be a great honour to me,â she said, âif you were to wear these at the upcoming feast.â
It was with great effort that you did not sigh.
âOf course, Princess.â
XIII. TWO OF SWORDS
There was nothing less you wanted to do than to attend the banquet meant to precede the next dayâs tourney. This reluctance had less to do with the loss of your parents (though that was undeniably a factor; you were still looking forward to the day you could crawl into the dragon pit and wail in solitude) and more to do with the dread of navigating the court. Within the Red Keep, wearing the wrong colour dress to sup alone could earn you the ire of half the castle; choosing the wrong one for this banquet could quite literally kill you.
Alicent expected you to wear green, as would the Tyrells. Rhaenyra expected you to wear her earrings, which were obviously meant to be paired with black and red. It would insult one faction or the other if you did not respect their wishes, but at this point, you also had no desire to align yourself with either. Rhaenyra had not convinced you of her cause, and if you played too nicely with the Hightowers now then they would take that as a sign that they could further abuse you as they pleased in the future.
On the other hand, you did not want to offend anyone too much. Cultivating a relationship with the blacks might be useful in the future, though your greatest concern was the Hightowersâneither your coin in Braavos nor the power of your dragon could save you if the Hand decided to poison you. That could be a very real risk as you currently had no heir. Should you be killed, the money in the Iron Bank would fall to your next of kin: King Viserys on paper; Alicent Hightower in practice.
No, you could not openly antagonise the Hightowers. However, appalling them? Probably fine. Alicent already found you appalling on a daily basis, and the Hand made it no secret that he was happy to write you off as the daughter of a foreign bed slave whenever it was convenient. You were sick of it. If they were going to accuse you of being a whore, then let them suffer the shame of having raised one.
When you walked through the heavy oak doors into the Great Hall, a hush fell over all the lords and ladies present. A few noblewomen covered their open mouths with their hands, emphasising their shock and disapproval. It was already difficult not to laugh at them, but you almost barked when you saw Jaceâs reaction to what you were wearing: he very clearly choked on his wine and nearly spat it out. The sudden flush on cheeks probably was not from the Arbor gold, either. You winked at him, hoping Alicent would notice.
Rhaenyra, sitting next to him, seemed amused at the Queenâs own scandalised expression. Of all the Kingâs party present, you greeted her first, curtsying as best as you could in your delicate, green silks. Lysene clothing was really not made for Westerosi customs, you thought; there was not a lot of material around your waist to lift, as most of it was cut to reveal your thighs, and the view it gave of your dĂ©colletage as you bowed the was⊠well, it did not leave much to the imagination. Nor did any other part of the dress. The silk was so sheer that it revealed far too much when the light struck it a certain way.
âWhat an interesting choice of dress,â Rhaenyra remarked, the corner of her mouth lifting. Her gaze caught on the rubies dangling from your ears; you smiled.
âI chose to wear Lysene silks today to match the earrings you gifted me, Princess,â you said. âThe dress was from my motherâs old wardrobe. The colour clashes a bit with the red, but it was all I had on hand, I'm afraid.â
âIâm sure.â She seemed neither convinced or upset. âWell, both the earrings and the dress look beautiful on you, my dear. Wouldn't you say so, Jacaerys?â
Jacaerys composed himself quickly enough, but you noticed that he was careful to look only at your face as he spoke. Still, he composure had returned when he replied, âYou look very lovely tonight, my lady. I shall need to ask you for a dance later.â
âI look forward to it. Come find me when it pleases you, my prince.â You curtsied again, turned away, and tried not to cackle at the expression that Jace made when he realised just how much leg your dress showed. You were fairly certain that Rhaenyra was herself trying not to laugh at her son's expense, smiling into her goblet as she watched his reaction.
Alicent, on the other hand, did not seem nearly so amused.
âYou⊠Lyseni,â she said, managing to make a very neutral word sound incredibly pejorative, âhave very unusual styles of dress.â
âI would not know. Having been born in Kingâs Landing, I am unfamiliar with Lysene styles as a whole, my Queen,â you replied calmly. âThis dress is from my motherâs old wardrobe. It was the only green dress I ownedâyou know I do not wear the colour much.â
âI would have been happy to have had a dress made for you,â she said, voice tight. âYou are our kin, after all. We are happy to ensure that members of the royal family dress as royals should.â
âI did not want to burden the Crownâs coffers, as I know they are limited,â you parried, and Alicentâs expression nearly put you in stitches. âIs my betrothed here tonight, my Queen? I should like to finally meet him, if he is.â
Part of you had hoped that this outfit would disgrace you too much for an introduction to the great house of the Reach. You were even hopeful for it when Alicent advised her father that you were not dressed suitably for a formal introduction, but the Hand insisted on it. In the end, Alicent had you meet Lady Tyrell at the behest of her father.
Lady Tyrell seemed an interesting woman. She served as the regent of Hightower given her son Lord Lyonelâs young age. Apparently significantly less pious than the Queen, Lady Tyrell took your appearance in stride.
âIt is a pleasure to meet you, my lady,â she said after a curtsy. âI saw your petition in the throne room a sennight ago, and I could not help but ask for an introduction after that⊠you are a very eloquent speaker. I am sorry to hear about your father, by the way. I recall it was said he was a diplomat in Lys and that your mother was a woman of the Lysene courtâis this dress something of hers?â
Woman of the Lysene court. You liked the way Lady Tyrell talked, as well as her values: apparently irreligious. You wondered what she and her house wanted from you. If she saw you during the petition, it was most likely all the gold you were arguing over. Highgarden was not short of wealth, but they always wanted more for it.
âIt was indeed left behind by my mother before she returned to Lys,â you replied. âAnd I thank you for your kind words. Everything I know, I have learned from the Queenâshe took my education into her own hands after my father passed, you seeâŠâ
The two of you exchanged pleasantries with one another. You painted an image of Alicent that had her in the golden light of the Seven and wearing a halo; the Queenâs posture relaxed visibly as she listened from nearby. When it came time for you to meet Arthur Tyrell, though, you noticed her stiffen again.
Ser Criston next to her also bristled. His eyes were heavy on Ser Arthur. He was startlingly handsome with his Tyrell features (though not as handsome as any Stark men, you noted), with a full head of mahogany curls and honey brown eyes that nearly shone gold at times in the chandelier light. He had a charming, playful smile that you did not see very much in your circles. Jace was too serious to make that sort of expression, Aemond too frightening, and Aegon too slovenly.
Most importantly, though, Arthur seemed not to mind your dress, taking you without hesitation to the dance floor.
âI was not told my betrothed would be so beautiful,â he said.
âAnd I was not told mine would be so handsome,â you replied swiftly, deciding to humour him. Then you added, wanting to know why Ser Criston seemed so disdainful of him, âThough I have heard tales of his bravery in the Marches.â
âExaggerations, I'm sure,â he replied.
âThen I would like to hear the truth of it from the man himself.â
Arthur was humble, yet glib of tongue. He replied to all your questions respectfully, but not without a little flirtation or humour, and always with charisma. You found yourself frustrated: you could not tell how such a charming and well-accomplished man had earned the ire of Ser Criston. His only damning trait seemed to be that he was a bastard, which you could not care less about.
It seemed that you could only get the truth from the white cloak himself. When you were nearly about to signal for Ser Criston to ask you for a danceâthe two of you had such a protocol, for times when you were made to dance with some lecher and Aemond was not around to extract youâwhen the one-eyed prince himself instead came to your aid.
âPardon the interruption, Ser Arthur,â a familiar voice said behind you, âbut I would like to trouble my cousin for a dance.â
âOf course, my Prince,â the knight replied, and he handed you off to Aemond gracefully. Once you were in Aemondâs arms, he nodded at Ser Arthur, his mouth curling into a kind of smile. You could not decide if his expression was handsome or unsettling. Certainly, it was not friendly.
âYou do not like him,â you said in Valyrian, as Aemond led your feet across the marble floor.
He brought you close to him before he replied, in the same language, âI do not like him being around you. I spoke with Ser Criston and found his background⊠troubling.â Aemond had you twirling, the sheer silks around your waist swaying with your movements. âThe knowledge makes me worry about the way he was looking at you.â
Your brow arched. âHe looks at me the way that most men have looked at me my entire life.â
âI do not like it when most men look at you.â
A laugh. âSo many japes from you lately!â The two of you circled one another as a lute sung delicately. âWell, why do you dislike the gaze of this man? Tell me about the crimes of my betrothedâI shall soon die from suspense if you do not.â
Aemond brought you close. Your hand on his chest, his lips against your ear, he said, âThe man raped and pillaged towns in the Dornish Marches. Some of the worst crimes Ser Criston has ever seen in battleâan offence to the Seven, he said.â
Your expression fell. Aemond led you along in the dance, not allowing you to stopâlikely remembering the watching crowd. He kept his face so near to yours; it took a moment to realise he was hiding the shock in your eyes from the gazes of others.
After a long moment, you remembered yourself, and you began to think of all the implications. It now made sense that Lady Tyrell did not care about your choice of dress: it was fine that you were a harlot, as she meant to marry you to a raper. What confused you, though, was that Queen Alicent had so readily agreed to the match as well: she may have disapproved of whores, but she openly despised rapers and felt they should all be gelded, just as the Seven-Pointed Star commanded.
âDoes your grandsire know?â you asked, moving deftly around your partner. âYour mother?â
âI cannot say for certain,â Aemond said, âbut I suspect they do.â
You nodded, tried not to look too grave as you said, âI will find a way out of this marriage.â Out of the corner of your eye, you saw the Tyrells watching the two of you. You pressed yourself against Aemond, likely more intimately than any dance would warrant, so that you could whisper into his ear. âWere you serious about finding a means to avoid my betrothal?â
âNot only seriousâI have already planned it.â Aemond smiled in his unsettling, handsome way once more. âPlay along in the morrow. Remember: Any consequences will not befall you.â
What consequences? you meant to askâbut then you were interrupted.
âPardon me,â a new voice said in the Common Tongue, and the both of you broke apart to see Jacaerys. âI wanted to make good on my promise to dance with my cousin.â
It was a command, not a request. Aemond studied him for a moment, and you wondered for a moment if they would begin to posture with each other, but he then acquiesced.
âOf course, nephew,â Aemond replied. He then switched to Valyrian: âTake care not to pass her off to any untoward characters. I'd rather her stay even in your hands than certain others. Bring her to me once you are done.â
Your cousin gave you a long look, his single eye glinting strangely. He brought your fingers up, and you did not realise what he was doing until his lips were pressed chastely against your knuckle. You stared blankly at the foreign sensation, at the soft touch of his mouth against your skin, unable to comprehend what was happening. But the realisation came only a moment later, suddenly and violently:
Aemond Targaryen was kissing your hand.
You nearly jerked back. What are you doing? you wanted to ask, but Aemond did not give you much time before turning to leave, smiling as he retreated to the high table.
You gave him a bewildered look as he disappeared into the crowd. Jacaerys, himself, seemed equally surprised. As he took your hand into his, he began questioning you: âDid I misunderstand,â he asked quietly in the Common Tongue, âor did my uncle just entrust you to me?â
Your speech remained in Valyrian: âYou understood correctly, though you may have missed the backhanded insult. I believe he doesn't want me back in the arms of my betrothed. Aemond and Ser Criston mislike the man.â
âDo they?â
âYes. Or, wellâit is more like they abhor him.â You were uncertain if Jace knew the words for ârapeâ or âpillageâ in Valyrian, so you adopted the Common Tongue once more, smiling brightly: âNevermind all of that. We can talk later, when we are somewhere more⊠private.â
Multiple eyes glanced away, eavesdroppers averting you now that they'd been caught. You figured that those around you thought you were speaking of the kiss, and not of the reputation of Ser Arthur. Certainly, Queen Alicent must have, for her jaw was so tight and angry that she could have only been thinking of her sonâs open favour toward you, or perhaps the betrothal that he just put into jeopardy. You supposed it was also a particularly sordid sight for her given the new whispers surrounding you: Jacaerys was said to have carried you back to your room in the early hours of the morning a few days ago. To anyone who believed the rumour, it must have looked to some like you were seducing both princes, their hearts in your cruel thrall even though you were now betrothed to a Tyrell. Luckily for you, however, the whisper had come from a kitchen maid who was a reputed liar: even though it was true, most were sceptical of the tale.
Alicent likely believed them, though, for she had given you a long lecture about preserving your innocence for your betrothed during your last meeting, followed up by an implication that there were ways in which one could feign virginity on a marriage bed should they have fallen into sin before their wedding night. She alluded to the old trick of staining oneâs sheets with chickenâs blood while their groom was distracted. Though you were not offended at her belief that you had ruined yourself, you were offended at her belief that you would be stupid enough to jeopardise a marriage in this way. Using chickenâs blood was good enough for commoners, but it hardly worked for noblewomen. Septas and maesters would not be fooled by such a lazy deception, and you were both well-aware of it.
Thinking of the conversation made your head pound, so you turned to your only solace at a time like this: âWould you like to sit and have some wine, Jace? I have not yet tried the Arbor gold.â
âOf course.â Jace took your hand in his, led you to the high table at the front of the hall. A maid promptly approached with goblets and wine, which you were glad to drink, hoping for the sweet oblivion of complete inebriation. Jaceâs brow lifted as he watched you.
âI did not know that you had grown into such a drinker.â
âOnly during banquets,â you said dryly. âI find that I cannot otherwise endure them.â
âHow ironic,â Jace remarked. âThis is my first in the Red Keep, and I find myself envying you for having attended so many.â
You were startled as you realised that the Crown Prince, of all people, had neither attended a tourney nor a banquet in Kingâs Landing solely because of the petty infighting in his family. âSorry,â you said immediately. âIâd forgotten this was your first feast here. Iâll try to be better company.â
âYou are always good company,â Jace reassured you, âthough I would enjoy a proper dance with you later. Weâve never danced together before, you knowâI meant it when I said I would want one.â He smiled, and you felt your stomach flutter in a dangerous way.
Crown prince, crown prince, crown prince, you repeated silently, trying to remind yourself that you could absolutely not become besotted with the heir to the throne. If Jacaerys were to be the object of your longing (a futile one, for it was an impossibility that you could ever marry him), then you would never find a lord for yourself whom you could be happily bedded by. There was not a single noble man in the Realm who had a face that could compete with hisânot even Cregan Stark!
âI'm not a very good dancer,â you remembered to reply. âI may step on your feet.â
âYou seemed fine with my uncle.â
âOnly because he's strong at leading. It isnât unlike swordplay, which he excels at.â You sighed. âIt is a wonder that I did not embarrass myself in front of Ser Arthur.â
Jace gave the Tyrell a sidelong glance, contemplative. âI have heard from the Queen that he is now your betrothed,â your cousin said, âwhich I imagine must make my uncle unhappy, as he clearly wants to bed you.â
You gave Jace a tired look. âMany people believe that I am Aemondâs lover, but I can assure you that the assertion is false.â
âThat kiss did lead me to believe that he would prefer it to be true.â
âI would not pay it any mind. A kiss on the hand is a simple enough courtesy, not necessarily a sign of courtship. And even if it was unusual for him, he is likely only plotting something.â Something that the Queen will hate as much as the Tyrells, you supposed.
âPlotting something, or acting on a lifelong desire?â He studied you carefully. âAemond has always been very jealous over you. And protective.â
âNot because he wants to bed me,â you dismissed, sipping on your wine. âI was his only friend for a long time, so naturally he likes to hoard my company. And he likely is only so protective of me because he thinks of me as a kind of elder sister to him; it was the role I played to him when we were children.â
âAhâso you mean he wants to bed you and wed you.â You choked on your drink, giving Jacaerys a scandalised look. âWhat? Sibling marriage is the custom of our family.â
âI meant that he thinks of me as a sister in the Andal way.â
âYet none of us are Andalsâincluding yourself, dear cousin. You are a Targaryen.â
Your mood soured as he reminded you of the fact. You could not help but think of how eager you were to run away from that Small Council room a fortnight ago, so aggrieved were you by your kin.
âCan you ask your lady mother to disown me from the family?â you begged, and Jace snorted.
âOnly you would reject the life of a trueborn Targaryen,â he said, shaking his head. He likely meant it as a jape, but the words had a bitter timbre to them, and you felt torn between guilt and resentment. Trueborn or not, Jacaerys had a number of people protecting his place in this familyâyourself included. The same could not be said of you.
âMy trueborn family rejected my mother. I may as well be a bastard.â
âEvery bastard still wants for a family.â
âA family, sure, but I imagine not always their family by blood. Most of them do well enough. I feel I would.â
âYou wouldn't really want to leave it all behind,â he accused.
âNo,â you admitted. âI thought briefly of running away, after I was told of my father's death. But now there are people here I care for too much. Like Aemond, or Wildfyre.â
âAnd?â Jace prompted.
âI suppose I like Luke well enough.â
âHow cold.â
You smiled at the prickly look he feigned. âI would miss you terribly, Jace. But I tire easily of all the politicking in these walls.â You sighed heavily. âIf she cannot disown me, could you ask Princess Rhaenyra to marry me off to someplace far from Kingâs Landing? And not to any Targaryen men, please.â
âI have little say in such matters, but if you'll take a Velaryon, I could get you as far as Dragonstone.â
Aemond was nearby, clearly listening, and you realised now that Jace must have noticed. You smiled at your dark-haired cousin, amused.
âA tempting offer,â you replied playfully, âbut youâd become a Targaryen once you ascend the throne, and I'd also be back here once more when that happens. I'm afraid I'll need to decline.â
Jacaerys played at disappointment, clicking his tongue. âAh, well, it was worth a try.â He picked up his own goblet from the table, took a draught. âThereâs always the King Beyond the Wall. Is that far enough for you?â
âI would rather face the Others than Otto Hightower,â you said dryly. âCertainly, I would fear them less.â
You expected Jace to laugh, but he only studied you, as if curious. After a moment of consideration, he leaned in and asked, âWould you care to step outside with me, my lady? For some fresh air.â
Fresh air was clearly not what he wanted. Nevertheless, you agreed and allowed Jace to help you out of your seat. As you rose, you glanced at Aemond, worried for his reaction, but his attention was not on you. He was speaking with Ser Arthur, you realised, who did not seem pleased by whatever Aemond was saying. Your brow furrowed, and you wondered if you should intervene, but Aemond glanced at you then, the corner of his mouth hooked slyly, his gaze as unsettling as it was reassuring.
Play along in the morrow, Aemond had told you, so you decided whatever he was planning was not your business tonight. You turned on your heel and took Jace by the arm, hurrying away.
IX. SEVEN OF CUPS
The night was cool and quiet, but you knew that it was not empty. You were certain that there would be many curious about why the Crown Prince would want to step outside and close the doors to the Great Hall behind him, obviously seeking privacy. Guards were posted in the courtyard below despite being within the inner castle walls; the balcony above you was silent when there should have been chatter and music from the banquet drifting from its threshold. Someone had stepped outside and closed the doors to escape the noiseâmeaning they could now listen to you rather than the noise of the feast.
You had long ago noticed that some of the sordid rumours about you involved your moments when you believed you were utterly alone with another person, or when you moved through supposedly empty halls and corners of the castle. From this, you suspected that there were eyes and ears placed all throughout the Red Keep. When you brought this up to Aemond (talking quietly in the dragon pit, where Wildfyre and the many other dragons ensured that you were both alone), he outright confirmed it. Larys Strong is quite adept at collecting whispers, he had commented. The Queen often consults him on them. King Viserys, though, has never paid him any mindâhe does not see the value in knowing the whispers of Kingâs Landing.
When you asked Aemond how he had collected such whispers, he merely smiled.
After this conversation, you quickly surmised that all adept players at court had eyes and ears to aid them. You had not realised how much you had taken this knowledge for granted until Jacaerys disclosed that he had wanted to step onto the balcony to get some privacy.
âPrivacy?â You made a face. Dragonstone had evidently spoiled the man. âThis is not a private place. I do hope you aren't planning on saying or doing anything that may be seen as untoward. The Queen already believes that you have taken me abed and thoroughly ruined my innocence.â
Jacaerys cleared his throat. Moonlight tended to wash out the colour from anything illuminated by it, but you suspected he had gone red. âI will say nothing that will fuel those rumours. I only wanted privacy from my uncle, lest he be offended by my suggestion.â He glanced around, then lowered his voice. âIs someone truly listening?â
âYouâre within the walls of the Red Keep. Someone is always listening, except for in a scarce few places. I can show you some other time where I like to go for real privacy.â You tilted your head. âBut let's hear your suggestion. I am curious to know what would offend Aemond so.â
âThe Hightowers,â Jace started, âhave mistreated you these past few days. You japed about it just now, but the Hand and the Queen have scheââ
You placed a finger to his lips, and his eyes widened, startled. He swallowed thickly, only relaxing when you moved your hand away. You then smiled and finished for him: âYes, the Hand and the Queen upset me during my petition. But it is well-known that they always have the best interests of the Realm at heartâit is clear they were only acting for the benefit of the Seven Kingdoms when they contested my inheritance.â Giving Jace a meaningful look, you asked, âWhat of it?â
Jacaerys caught on quickly, thank the Seven. âIt is understandable that they have the best interests of the Realm at heart, but I keep the best interests of yours in mine. I was not entirely jesting in the Great Hall: I would take you away from the Red Keep, if you so wished.â
You stared. âTake me away?â
âTo Dragonstone,â he offered plainly. âPrincess Rhaenyra and Prince Daemon would happily host you for as long as you desired. I would be there to keep you company during your stay, as would Luke.â
âAh. Do they want to take me as their ward?â It was unsurprising, you thought. They likely wanted your inheritance. But you played the fool: âOr do they need a dragonrider? I know Lord Velaryon has trouble with pirates every now and then. It would be sensible for Prince Daemon to solicit my help as they are allies, I suppose.â
âThey aren't inviting you. I am.â You blinked at him, obviously uncomprehending, and the corner of his mouth lifted. âYou could see the castle,â he began slowly. âVisit the beaches. Fly to Braavos to oversee your wealth, and I would accompany you if you liked. Vermax would be happy for itâI do believe he misses you.â
It was hard to believe in the generosity of the offer, though you knew generosity was in Jaceâs nature when it came to you. Still, you needed to confirm it: âYou want me to come to Dragonstone⊠for leisure?â
âIf leisure is what you want, then yes. If for some reason you wish to labour, though, I am sure there is plenty to be done.â He smiled. âYou could teach me Valyrian, to start.â
There was really nothing in the world that sounded more appealing than living in a darkly beautiful castle by the sea and tutoring a gorgeous prince who wished to take you to Braavos. Certainly, it would be the fantasy of any other maiden.
Still, you hesitated. âI am unsure if this is wiseâŠâ
Jacaerys leaned in then. âYou've always wanted to get away from the Hightowers,â he said quietly, âeven when we were children. Now is your chance.â
You raised a brow, wondering how you let that slip to anyone other than Aemond. âDid I tell you that?â
âYou quite literally told me to rescue you from them.â
âDid I?â you asked, perplexed. But you recalled it a moment after: when Princess Rhaenyra was sent to Dragonstone and Jacaerys was downtrodden about parting from you. He had just lost Ser Harwin, so youâd felt poorly for himâhad Aemond not been so feverishly ill from the loss of his eye, you might have actually asked Rhaenyra to host you so that you could stay with Jace a while. It made your heart ache that you couldn't be with him, especially since you knew what it felt like to see your father leave your home and then never return. So of course, you promised Jace that you would someday be reunited, and that you would stay by his side then.
You hadn't thought about those words in years.
âOh,â you murmured, oddly touched, âyes, I suppose I did say that, didnât I? I thought you would have forgotten about it by now.â
He gave you an expression that you couldn't quite decipher. âOf course I remembered,â he said earnestly. âYou asked me to take you awayâso let me.â
You stayed quiet for a long moment as you considered the offer. You heard the scrape of soles against brick on the balcony above you, the clink of knightsâ armour below. All the eyes and ears of the Red Keep pressed upon you, and it made your heart pound.
âI can't,â you spoke carefully. You leaned forwardâclose enough to murmur into his ear. âThe Queen has already arranged for the Tyrells to take me as a ward. If your mother were to take me on instead, then it would put both her and the Queen in an uncomfortable position. The Tyrells would be offended by them both. I do not think Princess Rhaenyra would want to malign a great house.â And I do not wish to know what Otto Hightower would do to me if I put Queen Alicent in such a sensitive position, you left unsaid.
You could see, in Jaceâs eyes, his understanding, acceptance, and eventual disappointment in the reality of your situation.
âIt would be wiser for you to stay,â he finally agreed, âbut do know that if either Highgarden or the Red Keep become unbearable, there will always be a place on Dragonstone for you.â
You peered beyond the balcony, into the dark night where you imagined many eyes watching you. From the way Lady Tyrell had talked to you, you could tell that Highgarden would likely not be too different from the Red Keepâfull of silver-tongued flatterers, keen whisperers, and elaborate schemes. It was exactly the kind of politicking that made you so eager to get away from Kingâs Landingâthe kind of politicking that you would find anywhere there were those who thirsted for power.
And few people in the Realm desired power more than Rhaenyra.
âIt is generous of the blacks to offer this,â you said finally. âIf I could follow you to Dragonstone, then I would.â
âIt is not the blacks who offer it,â Jacaerys replied. âI meant it when I said that I was inviting you. I only wish to offer you a place in which you are safe. If you ever find yourself wanting a home without flattery and falsehoods, then come join me on Dragonstone. I shall never turn you away.â
You gave him a wistful smile.
âYou are very kind, Jace,â you replied gently, âand I love you dearly for it. But no such home could ever exist for a Targaryen.â

That image of hime will never leave her mind. She knows it's a bold thing to say, but she knows in her gut, it will stay with her. Letting out a small sigh, she hated herself for playing with his mind and emotions. "In what way? If you were to be honest now, what would you say about where you were mentally?" She knew Grace said he couldn't be pushed, but she needed to try. "And would this have built up the way it did if you were seeing your therapist more regularly?" She didn't want to scold him, but she wanted to support him, which means scheduling therapy appointments, both as his assistant and his girlfriend- whoa. The subtlety that thought came to her stunned her for a second, abort, abort, abort. Looking back at him forcefully focusing on him to deter her own inner spiral.
Smiling and letting out a soft chuckle at the thought of slapping him across the face, her facial expression soured the more he divulged his inner thoughts. "Wow, those thoughts either really hate me or are out to get you." She tried to joke. She could see he was embarrassed and her heart hurt for him because he had no reason for it. "You know I don't feel that way right?" She knew he admitted it was a stupid thought, but she wanted him to hear it from her. "Especially when I'm not 'dealing' with you. If anything, you're 'dealing' with me. You have a legitimate diagnosis to back up your stuff, I'm just... a naive and gullible idiot." Chuckling at her own expense. "I don't know," She said awkwardly disliking any talk around money, specifically someone else buying her anything. "It is an expense, technically, but I can get my own phone. You pay be very well to be able to afford a new one." She felt so awkward as if she had insects crawling underneath her skin, "It's fine, I can buy it." She said quickly, desperate for this conversation to be over, "I'll buy it later, or tomorrow, or whenever." She nodded. "You know, I really like getting back into bed idea. Where are your spare sheets? I can go make the bed, or we can use that guest room I've been neglecting."
He hated that he put her through that, that she'd had to see him like that. It was worse that he knew she blamed herself for it when, in reality, she'd done nothing wrong. "I was in a weird place yesterday. Everything building up the way it had, feeling like I was going to lose you before we ever even got to have anything..." Maybe he didn't want to discuss it right now but he couldn't avoid it forever. "I wasn't being honest about where I was mentally either and it caught up to me." Honestly he didn't know if a shock to the system would work or not. Everyone seemed to want to treat him with such a soft touch when he got to be a certain way. But it might work. "It's definitely worth a shot. Like, don't slap me across the face or anything because I don't know how I would react to that. But maybe a hug or something? Something to knock me out of it. You being there helped, I swear it did. I just... honestly, when your call dropped I thought something happened to you and I was so close to calling the cops but I didn't know where you were and then the intrusive thoughts just snaked in and told me you'd hung up on me on purpose and that you didn't want to deal with me anymore. It was stupid." He felt embarrassed and it showed on his face. "What I really want is to get back into bed but we can definitely get you a new phone. Is that considered a company expense or are you not going to let me cover that one? You can use mine if you need to make calls or anything. I've got nothing to hide."

Viktor x Fem!Reader
Word Count: 4k
Viktor is on the verge of collapse because of work, so you will âprescribeâ him an unconventional method.
Warning: Mention and use of drugs (Weed). Sexual tension (I don't know if it counts, judge for yourself)
N/A: English is not my native language, feel free to correct me in the comments and I will update it. Remember to share if you liked it.
Translation of the request: The reader shows Viktor the joints
You bent down to pick up the twelfth crumpled ball of paper that rolled across the floor to throw it in the trash can.
As an assistant it was your duty to help with the less interesting tasks of being a visionary inventor. And that meant keeping things tidy and clean.
Which used to be the biggest burden, Jayce was a master at leaving important things lying around, his desk was always full of papers, notebooks, screw and bolts.
It was like being his babysitter, once he left at nightfall, you stayed to tidy up.
You wanted to go home and⊠try a new ârelaxantâ you had bought, but it seemed like that would have to wait. Or maybe notâŠ
Viktor always stayed too late at the lab, so while you cleaned up and complained about the mess of Jayce, he was always there, silent or chatting a little with you when he decided to take a break, something very rare for him.
But now he was really focused, mumbling things that aren't so nice to hear while writing in his notebook, then he got upset and hit the table a little before tearing off the sheet and throwing it to the floor. He's been like this for the last few hours, it seems like he could burn everything down if his formulas don't start making sense soon. It's weird to see him like this, normally he's someone who could have infinite patience, you suppose he has it with everyone except himself.
You approached his desk discreetly, as if you were tidying up a bit. You carry with you your usual relaxed energy, maybe you could spread some of your spirit to him.
"Viktor!" your shout surprised him, making his back tingle like a cat's "You look like you're about to pop a vein, are you okay?" they say with a soft smile.
Viktor guides his gaze from your hands on his desk to your face, you look at him with a calm smile, as if you hadn't just almost stopped his heart, it's always like that, there's no other way you could smile at him and if you think back he's the only person you really smile at.
He answers with a snort, rubbing his temples.
âOf course not. If I was this dam- prototype would workâ he refrained from saying a rude thing, you knew him, for him, saying a rude thing meant he was losing his composure and that was something he never did âI'm starting to think that magic is more logical than science.â
He sighed, showing that he was quite exhausted, the dark circles under his eyes supported that conclusion. His thin hands combed his hair as if that would refresh his ideas before falling on his desk again.
That squeezed your heart a little and made a curious idea cross your mind, reflected in a malicious smile.
You let your hands wander across the desk, between the open papers and notebooks, to Viktorâs hands that were clenched into fists. âWhat you need is not more work. You need to relaxâŠâ
Viktor's body was the victim of a shiver when he felt your fingers approach his hand, his heart skipped a beat when he felt how your fingers tried to loosen their grip on his fist and finally succeeded. He tried to stay still, as if the slightest movement would push you away like a little bird, his gaze followed each of your movements in his hand, caressing his palm and playing with his fingers.
Was he surprised by your attitude? Yes. It was something he had never expected from you. You used to play little jokes on him, like shouting his name or throwing a pencil on the floor to get him out of his almost absolute concentration but... touching him? That was new. Sure, you were the secretary of both of them but you always had to run after Jayce because he was like a clueless child, even Viktor knew that. With him you weren't like that at all, you always gave him his space and kept your distance all the time. That had always made him feel uncomfortable, like he didn't belong to whatever was forming when you and Jayce were together, like he was a sour shadow life to the sidelines of happiness.
âCan I help you with that?â you asked in a whisper.
âI guess soâŠâ He seemed nervous and that increased even more when he felt your hand go up his arm to his shoulder, where with both hands you did small massages on his shoulders and neck. You used to give Jayce massages when he was frustrated and a part of Viktor had always felt a little jealous of that, although he didn't want to admit it, it seemed unfair to him, Jayce had Mel and he really didn't get tired of talking about how wonderful she was and yet he also had you, always fluttering around him, always laughing with you, always accepting your merely friendly touch, always...always making you smile...he wants that.
He couldn't help but gasp when the pressure on his body began to disappear, his body was also enjoying it, after all it was the first time he could feel your touch beyond accidental brushes. He was grateful that you were behind him, he was sure that if you could see his face he couldn't hide how much he was enjoying it.
You looked over your shoulders at your bag hanging on one of the racks next to the door, next to Viktor's jacket. It was time to take advantage of that small purchase. You slid your hands to his neck, massaging even under his hair, making your way and disarranging his shirt in the process until you touched his warm and soft skin. Viktor's hand quickly went in search of his cane, when a shiver ran through him from head to toe with force, the emptiness in his lungs reminded him that he should breathe. But even with that wave of emotions, what he felt the most was the absence of your hands on him.
He quickly turned in his chair to look for you, his eyes traveling around the lab until he saw you near the entrance.
âNoâŠâ he muttered to himself as he grabbed his cane and let his shoulder rest on it, hurrying to get to you, but when he had you in front of him the words got stuck in his throat. âAre you leaving already?â he asked, it was the only thing his nervous mind had been able to formulate.
You turned back to face him, hiding something in the palm of your hand, a playful smile spread across your face as you shook your head. âNo, I just came⊠to get something.â
âOhâŠâ he felt like an idiot, there was no lie that could justify him basically going after you like a lapdog. So he just stayed silent looking for something that would draw his attention more than the shame he felt and he found it, in your hands. âWhat are you trying to hide?â He asked at your poor attempt to hide what you were carrying in your hands. That helps him regain his composure and look you in the eyes again with confidence.
âItâs a secretâ your tone is playful as you dodge him, close enough to smell his coffee and caramel aroma. Your movements are full of grace, even when you bring an extra chair to his desk and push his research away with a slight carelessness.
He canât help but compare you to a dancing nymph, the air that sneaks through the open window and the bright moonlight support that idea in his head, he doesnât even mind that some of his papers fly in the wind to his feet, he feels it as if they mark a path to you. Viktor doesnât hesitate for a moment to return to his desk, shaking his head as a shy smile crosses his face, he canât help it, itâs what you provoke in him.
He lets himself fall on the seat in front of you, your body shivers with the friction of the metal device on his leg against your knee, he seems to notice it and self-consciously takes a little distance, but you used your foot to work his chair into place before basically having him on the other side of the desk.
âAre you ready to try something really relaxing?â You ask excitedly.
Your gaze is unmistakably on him, finally, his mind screams excitedly and he hides it very well with a nervous movement of his good leg.
âWhat is that?â He asks finally, he's not good at enduring mysticism.
You open your hands with the same excitement as a circus tent opens to show an endless number of wonders. There's a yellow metal box with rainbow stickers and happy faces painted with marker. Inside there was a green mass and another brown compacted, a lighter, small filters and small papers.
You laughed a little at his attitude. âIt's a relaxation method. You're going to like it. Well... maybe not, but you have to try it.â
Viktor massages his chin while he analyzes everything, he has that skeptical look full of curiosity again, you can see the nuts and bolts in his mind turning.
âIt's weed.â you confess, his eyes widen and search your gaze quickly, his eyes reflecting surprise. âOh come on Viktor, what is science if not experimenting with new things? It counts as research.â The tone in your voice is playful, as if you're amused by the situation.
âWhat effects does it have?â If there was one thing Viktor never dabbled in, it was drugs. Even with his illness, he never thought about trying them. Not because he didn't know about them, they just didn't spark his interest. "I didn't know you were on drugs..." he murmurs, feeling a little foolish, he didn't consider you to be close friends so it's not like you had to tell him about it. A thorn of jealousy stung him when a voice in the back of his mind mentioned that maybe Jayce did know that and many other things about you.
"I don't, it was... a recent purchase, I just know that they relax you and make you feel really good for a few hours." You sigh and rest your head on your outstretched arm on the desk. "Do you want to try it? I mean, we can try it together if you want..." you say as your hand plays with a pencil near you. You don't want to look him in the eyes, you fear meeting a stern look and a big reproach.
"Sure, why not." was his answer, simple and perhaps a little nervous.
âThis is going to be fun.â
Viktor watches you carefully as you roll the joint, studying your every action. He watches your hands take the thin, almost translucent paper that shines a little under the moonlight, watching it spread between your fingers as you make sure the sticky side is facing up and out. He look at your hands, soft and the shiny rings on them, and only one thought escapes you.
âIâd like to feel themâŠâ
âWhat?â you reply to such an unexpected comment.
âNothing,â he quickly says. âI was rambling,â he tries to justify himself, and you seem to believe him for a second.
âOkayâŠâ Your movements were nervous, caused by the intensity of his gaze, making you more and more nervous about being the center of his absolute attention this time. You delicately crumble the buds. The sticky texture of the resin tried to stick to your fingers, releasing an earthy aroma, you take a bit of tobacco and crumble it up and let it rest on the grass. You take a small little filter and place it on one end. With agile fingers you lift the paper and begin to shape it, making sure everything is well distributed, you roll the paper and Viktorâs soul seems to leave his body when he sees you licking the edge before sealing it with a clean movement. His thoughts are reflected on his face as a faint blush spreads across his cheeks and his Adamâs apple rises shakily.
You offer him the finished joint with a satisfied smile, you hoped you had done all the steps right. Viktor takes it delicately, as if he had just witnessed a sacred ritual.
âWhat exactly is in it?â he asks, hoping the answer will take his attention away from his own thoughts a little.
âWeed, tobacco, patienceâŠand the desire to shareâ You joke as you take out the lighter and put everything in the box, before hiding it in one of the drawers of his desk.
Viktor plays with the joint in his hand for a while, examining it. âShould I put it in my mouth?â he asks as you nod softly.
âIâll light itâ you move your chair closer to him, just a few centimeters from each other, you take the lighter from the table and bring it close to his face, with the glow of the flame you can clearly see his blush and how straight he is in his seat âRelax, Iâm not going to set you on fire.â you murmured with a soft laugh. He didnât answer, he just brought his face closer to you, not to the flame of the lighter, your body paralyzed at such a reaction, it was you who brought the flame closer to him and gently lit the joint.
Viktor's first drag was a tragedy in itself, he coughed as if his soul was leaving them while his eyes were watery as if he was dying, he had inhaled it all at once and swallowed it, so it was like watching a chimney moan. You quickly went to his aid by taking the joint from him, taking him to the window to get some air and gently hitting his back to get the remaining humor out of his lungs. Even so, you couldn't help but laugh awkwardly, you tried to hide it so he wouldn't think you were laughing at him but then it was a thousand times more noticeable.
âThis can't be healthyâŠâ he mentioned, hitting his back against the wall next to the window.
âNot if you do it like thatâ you mentioned covering your laughter with your hand.
âDo you find it funny to see me dying in the smoke?âHe asked, he didn't seem upset, he just had his arms crossed with a sarcastic attitude, letting his back fall against the wall in the arch of the window.
âNoâŠâ you muttered before stopping hiding your laughter and letting it out freely. He just smiled and looked out the window, he felt a little silly about everything that had happened but at least he made you laugh and that was something.
Viktorâs skin crawled as your hand suddenly cupped his cheek. âYou have a tear,â you said, wiping the small droplet that rolled down his cheek with your thumb. His arms fell heavily to the sides of his body. Before he could react properly, he let himself enjoy the touch, your touch, the feeling of you coming into contact with his skin. Although it only lasted a few seconds, he could still feel your touch when you pulled away.
âIâll do it first so you can see, okay?â you said. You took the joint between your fingers elegantly and put it between your lips. You inhaled and held it for a few seconds before letting it out slowly. The smoke fell from your mouth and the wind carried it to Viktor, enveloping it in a cloud of smoke before dissipating into the air.
You approached him with slow steps, taking one of his hands and leaving the joint between his fingers. âItâs your turn,â you said, raising his hand to his mouth, âremember, donât swallow the smoke,â you said in a joking tone.
âHa ha, funny.â He rolled his eyes and brought the joint to his lips this time. He took a deep drag and held it for a while, holding onto his cane to use his free hand for something.
You were on the lookout for everything, in case he choked on the smoke again.
âExhale,â you rested your hand on his chest, the small jump his chest made when he felt your fingers against his clothes was clear to you. Smoke came out from between his thin lips like a waterfall, you left your hand against his chest until you felt him breathe again. âMy turn,â you said, taking the joint and taking another drag.
After a few puffs, Viktor is more relaxed and begins to notice things he wouldn't normally comment on. He looks at you with the curiosity of a small child.
âYou know, you're surprisingly good at⊠thisâ he says as he holds the joint ready for another puff. âI thought only Jayce could convince me to do something stupid, but you seem more effective.â
You laughs, it's a rather polite comment coming from him. âAre you surprised? I have my methods.â You reply mischievously.
âYour methodsâŠâ he stares at you for a moment and mutters almost to himself. âThey should be exclusive.â
As the joint gets smaller, the effect becomes much more noticeable. Viktor's eyes blink slowly and open like a deer's, his pupils almost completely obscuring the warm iris in his gaze. It doesn't take long for him to let out his first ramblings. By this point, they're both sitting on the floor, each in their own corner of the window with their legs outstretched.
âI like your eyes,â he blurts out of nowhere, clinging to his cane as if he were going to fall off if he doesn't. âIt's fascinating. LikeâŠlikeâŠlike you're catching light in a jar.â He says with the sweetest smile you've ever seen. You're a bit stunned by his words, used to the reserved and serious Viktor, this is all a new air, you play along.
âWow, was that a compliment? I should write it down for posterity,â you say, laughing. You've received compliments before, from people much more sober than Viktor is now, but it's different, that compliment hits differently, behind all the cool and carefree facade that comment manages to pierce your heart and leaves you sighing for that new side of Viktor. As if you discovered how hungry you were to receive something from him.
Viktor replied, with a smile that exuded confidence âYou donât need to write it down. I can tell you whenever you forget.â
You sighed âYouâll regret that so much when youâre soberâŠâ you said. You didnât want to take his words seriously, after all, believing someone on drugs was like believing someone drunk and that almost never went well. But it was advice that your own mind threw away right now.
While they were talking, Viktor, under the effects of the joint, began to think things that he normally wouldnât say. âWhy are you always so comfortable with Jayce?â he asks, letting his head fall against the wall, leaving his neck and collarbones bathed in light on display.
Confused, you arch an eyebrow âWhat? Jayce and I are friends, and heâs my boss, it would be terrible if I didnât get along with him. Why are you asking?â
Viktor turns his gaze to you, you can feel a huge chill as you become his target, his hand playing with the cane at his side.
âYou always laugh with him. You always flutter around him.â He says with a certain bitter tone that you canât quite decipher. âItâs like heâs the only one who can make you laugh, the only one who deserves to enjoy you. I wish to have that.â
His answer surprises and intrigues you at the same time, you lean a little towards him wearing a mocking smile. The window isnât very big, so itâs not like youâre far away anyway. âAre you jealous, Viktor?â The way you taste his name like honey runs through every nerve in his spine.
Heâs clearly blushing, but he doesnât back down, after all he has nothing to lose, if something goes wrong heâll blame the drugs for everything.
âMaybe I am. Whatâs wrong with wanting your attention for me alone? Can't I want you?â
His words momentarily silence you, surprised by his sincerity. Something he takes advantage of to get closer to you, something you never thought he would do, he leans on his cane and before you know it your legs are trapped between his, and his free hand rests on your shoulder, caressing his way to your neck with his fingers. He looks so⊠surprisingly desperate, his breathing is irregular and his grip on his cane is weak. Having him so close makes the heat emanating from his body combine with yours, your heart is racing to have him so close and you have to use all your will not to do something stupid.
âItâs frustrating, you know? Seeing how you have such a good time with him and then youâre just silent with me⊠Donât I deserve your laughter? Donât I deserve your company?â You don't know how it hurts to want you, to want your smile, to want your gaze only on me, to want your touch desperately and see how you give it to someone else..." A gasp escapes his face and his body collapses, falling on your hip making you gasp in shock, everything is a mess "Want me, just want me."
"Viktor... You're... you're drugged... You're not seeing clearly." Your heart officially stops, his weight is against you, you can't and don't want to move. Each of his words ignites something inside you that could devour everything in its path.
He laughs, maybe because of nerves, maybe because of the effect of the grass or the tingling that your hands leave behind on his body, but he just laughs "I see enough to not want to share you with anyone else."
His gaze, normally focused and distant, now burned with something that seemed uncontrollable. There was tension in the air, a pent-up hunger that exploded the moment your arms wrapped around his neck.
He didn't wait any longer. With a quick, determined movement, he pulled you close, his cane clattering against the floor as he forgot about everything but you. His lips met yours with an almost brutal force, colliding with the intensity of lightning in the middle of a storm.
The first kiss was a chaos of urgency. Your mouths sought each other out like there was no tomorrow, lips parted, deep gasps escaping between each encounter. Viktor pushed you against the wall, his heavy, ragged breathing echoing in your ears. His hands, normally careful, were now hungry, desperate. One moved up your waist, running down your back under the fabric of your clothes, while the other leaned against the wall, locking you against his body.
You let yourself go completely, your fingers burying themselves in Viktorâs brown, tousled hair. His lips moved in a chaotic rhythm, alternating between wet kisses, bites on your lower lip, and that feverish exploration of your tongues that lit up your entire body. The soft sound of your mouths colliding and your panting filled the air, accompanied by your hands that now ran over his chest, his abdomen, without stopping.
When Viktor broke the kiss, it wasnât to break away, but to drag his lips down your jaw, down to your neck. There, he left a series of wet, almost wild kisses, lightly sucking on the skin with a wet sound that drew a moan from your throat.
âYou are...â he murmured against your neck, his voice raspy, broken, âincredible. I donât want to stop.â
His words felt like caresses, so charged with emotion that your body trembled under his touch. Viktor's hands now slid down your waist, slowly moving up, exploring it with a reverence laden with desire. Each touch was a reminder of how much pent-up passion this man so accustomed to solitude harbored for you.
"Viktor..." you gasped against his neck, but he took your mouth again, cutting you off with another fierce kiss.
The sound of rustling clothes, of uneven breathing, and Viktor's soft grunts as he lost himself in you filled the room. His body was completely pressed against yours, and every movement of his seemed to be aimed at etching his presence into you, as if he feared it could all fade away at any moment.
When they finally broke apart, their lips were swollen, and their chests rose and fell rapidly. Viktor's eyes, normally filled with logic and calculation, were now deep pools of desire and devotion, reflecting every emotion he couldn't put into words.
âThis isnât enough,â he confessed, his voice shaking slightly as he looked at you as if you were the only important thing in the world. âIt will never be enough with you.â
Your breathing was still ragged, the air between you filled with an almost palpable heat. Viktor kept his forehead resting against yours, his eyes closed, while his hand remained firmly on your waist, as if letting go was unthinkable.
âThis is dangerous...â Viktor murmured, although the tremble in his voice made it clear that the idea of stopping was an almost impossible challenge. His fingers continued to absentmindedly trace the curve of your back, as if his body refused to break contact.
âMore dangerous than what you do with Hextech?â you replied in a whisper, sketching a slight smile, trying to lighten the tension of the moment.
Viktorâs response was caught in his throat when you both suddenly heard the echo of footsteps in the hallway. You both tensed instantly, your bodies rigid as if someone had thrown a bucket of ice water over both of you. Realizing for the first time that dawn had already arrived and the sun was rising lazily on the horizon, the weed turned the hours into moments.
âViktor, are you there?â Jayceâs deep, confident voice echoed just outside the door.
Viktorâs eyes snapped open, his pupils still dilated from the intensity of the moment. He cursed under his breath as he grabbed his cane from the floor, gesturing quickly towards the work table. You understood what he meant.
With your heart about to explode, you helped him stand up and hurried to adjust your clothes and move away from him, although your legs were shaking slightly from the heat still burning in your body. You pretended as best you could that nothing had happened, he walked over to his desk and you grabbed some papers from the floor.
The door opened barely a second later, not giving you time to fully regain your composure. Jayce walked in with his usual relaxed attitude, but his gaze narrowed instantly as he noticed the strange atmosphere that filled the room.
âAm I interrupting somethingâŠdidnât you go home Y/N?â he asked with a raised eyebrow, looking first at Viktor and then at you, lingering a second longer than necessary on your slightly swollen lips.
Viktor, always quick to react, stood up with his cane and pointed at a pile of papers scattered on his table.
âNothing at all,â he said in his usual tone, though the slight blush on his cheeks betrayed his feigned calm. âWe were just going over some calculations and cleaning up your mess.â
Jayce narrowed his eyes, clearly suspicious. He took in Viktorâs messy locks, the flushed cheeks on your face, and that palpable tension floating between the two of you.
âGoing over calculations?â he repeated slowly, letting the phrase hang in the air with a mocking tone as he crossed his arms. âBecause it seems that something else happened here.â
You forced a nervous smile as you began to organize the papers on the table, pretending the comment was outlandish. âOh, come on Jayce, what could possibly happen here?â Your heart was still beating like a drum in your ears. Viktor, for his part, adjusted his posture and gave Jayce a sharp look, full of exasperation.
âIf you have something important to say, do it quickly. Weâre busy.â Viktorâs voice was sharp, as if he were trying to firmly divert attention.
Jayce tilted a smile, clearly amused by his friendâs reaction, but raised his hands in surrender.
âRelax, itâs nothing urgent. I just wanted to ask you something, but I can go get coffee while you finish. I donât want to⊠interrupt your calculations.â
The emphasis on the last word followed him to the door, where he gave one last suspicious look before disappearing down the hall.
When the door finally closed, the silence in the room was deafening. You let out a nervous laugh, bringing your hand to your mouth, while Viktor let out a long sigh and let himself lean back against the table, holding himself up with one hand.
âThis canât happen again,â he murmured, though his eyes, still fixed on you, burned with an unmistakable desire that contradicted every word. âI donât know how you make my brain feel so⊠scattered and focused at the same time.â
You smile and he replies mischievously as you drop your forehead on his shoulder, your breath brushing his neck. âItâs my secret talent.â
Viktor watches you for a moment and adds softly, âThen, save it for me.â
âViktor, I think youâre too high to give romantic speeches.â You laugh softly and give him a small pinch on the arm.
âMaybe⊠but Iâm not so high that I donât know I want more than whatâs happened tonight.â His arms wrap around your waist in a hug. His chest heaves with a small laugh. âShall we have breakfast at my house?â
The answer is more than clear.

Viktor is under some kind of influence, but at first glance it's hard to tell the exact nature of it.
But I believe its more simple than one would think.
The core is basically jingling keys in front of him and telling him to look at them.
But I believe its more simple than one would think.
The core is basically jingling keys in front of him and telling him to look at them.
Firstly, why is the sky hallucination sus? could it just be his own mind?
Her guiding him to her book and later showing up next to the shimmer addict could be explained as just his conscious.
However, he also woke up to her screams and it was her voice that guided him to the addicts, both things go beyond what could manifest only from his own perception of things.
Not only that, this is the exact place where he later cocoons himself again. So it's no accident he ended up here.
It's also good to note how Viktors saw her differently then how she was, he sees him as a more idolised version of herself, which is als a good indication that she is not real.
But then in act 2 she appeals completely harmless, she doesn't push him into anything, and it looks like she offers some sense of emotional support.
And that's the point, it's feeding into viktors weaknesses as a person, all it needs to do, is give him the illusion of company, and keep him in his head.
Viktor was always a loner, but he also seeked out second opinions and he was in fact very lonely and wished for company.
This is exactly what the core is giving him the illusion of. A second opinion and company.
By herself âskyâ does not offer any new information to viktor, she is either stathing things he is already aware of, things viktor thinks she would say, or reassures him.
âShe liked me, she would be concerned about me!â
âI remember telling her that once!â
âShe was caring, she would be upset at someone's death!â
In fact, it might even try to distract him from the important things, we don't see a lot of it, but the moment Viktor starts to wonder what's up with Jayce, she attempts to move his thoughts elsewhere from thinking about what is wrong with him.
Viktors perception of the world is fundamentally changed, this is already pretty isolating but now he has a mind buddy! He's Not alone anymore, there's someone who talks to him, who cares about him, who he can share ideas with,
someone who loves him.
I'm going to concede, I do think their relationship has a romantic undertone, if for nothing else it's because viktors perception of sky is pretty heavily defined by her love letters to him.
Regardless of your reading (how much do you think he reciprocates that), it is giving him the company he wished for.
Why is that bad?
It's because it keeps him docile, and so far up his own 4ss that he doesn't realise how messed up what he is actually doing is. He is stuck with his own regurgitated thoughts.
The only thing he ever gets is reassurance that what he is doing is in fact good, he doesn't have an outside perspective on what's happening with him or around him.
He doesn't have the head space to self reflect cuz something always chimes in, always keeps him thinking, solving problems, solving puzzles.
We never once saw him actively trying to talk to any of his followers, the only people who he does are not affected by him, and come to him directly, he didn't even bother seeking out Jayce himself.
The only way he communicates with them is when he wants to do his creepy puppet thing and if the only thing left in his followers head is gratitude towards him and he never examines what it did to them as people, no wonder he doesn't notice a thing.
He just unquestionably spreads the core's influence.
No wonder the first awful idea anyone gave him in who knows how long that isn't his own stuck with him.
He always had a tendency to get sucked into his work and dont bother with people (ironically that is one of the reasons sky got dusted) and don't bother with anything else, and now the conditions are orchestrated for this to basically keep him in his own head.
He doesn't really care about his followers either, he watched one of them get smashed and didn't give a damn.
He doesn't care for them as people, they are more akin to problems he can solve and move on. He was barely even bothered about Jayce's condition, probably assuming he will come to him and he can fix him right away.
We can see this in his visions of how he conceptualizes himself, he looks very human, and yet he got these unsettling yellow eyes. He is blind to the ways he changed, just look at how he acts in them.
At first glance he appears a lot more emotive and it also tells us that he is fairly enjoying himself and his new perception of the world but also the main thing we see of him is his endless curiosity about things, not his empathy towards them.
He is well meaning of course, but he doesn't/cant reflect enough to see what he is really doing. Namely taking away the things he saw in these people, their dreams.
And he constantly has problems to solve, we saw how many people went to him, he always has something to think about, and he always has someone to talk to about it without needing to waste precious time on seeking out a second opinion.
In s1 he barely reacted to the beginning of a civil war going around him, now people depend on him and in the middle of a civil war he doesn't have any way of protecting these people.
He barely gives a damn about him slowly deteriorating. He doesn't live in reality anymore. He cannot see the forest for the trees. (though he might have had some plans we don't know of, since Salo was gathering materials for him.)
And his guilt just amplifies this.
From s1 one of his strongest traits was how much he believed if he gets the right tools, and the opportunity, he can help people.
âDo you think my life ambition is to be an assistant?â
âIf you are going to change the world don't ask for permission.â
âAll I did was believe in myself.â
This is what skys death puts into question.
This is why he almost jumped afterwards, this fundamental belief in himself was put into question. He got the chance to do what he wanted and someone died.
This is where his guilt comes into play, he isn't making his own dream a reality, we saw that what he really wanted is to give people tools that they can use to create, but that's not what he is doing.
He is doing what he believes Skye's dream was.
It doesn't even look like he invents things anymore, he just mostly uses his powers and studies botanics. (tho we saw Salo steal some stuff for him so he might have some plans that we don't know yet?)
This is even the context he brought her up to jayce: she had such dreams.
From her notes we can assume she hoped to help make a zaun that is cleaner and more connected to nature.
This is the reason why he is so receptive to skyes positive affirmation, its because in his head he is correcting his wrong, her affirmation and forgiveness gave him back the belief that he can still do good.
Now he has the right tools and the opportunity to do it, so he won't fail again.
He is literally wearing her symbol on his clothes.
He is doing this out of some kind of repentance for his sins.
So the way he sees it: he is helping these people, who on they own free will just happen to stay here cuz its nice and he conveniently can puppet them if needed, he doesn't question that cuz he never bothers to talk to them and skys happy and she talks to him so why bother when no one sees the world like he does.
What he doesn't realise is that he is pretty much meant to die there.
There's a reason why his palace was builded here, he literally got told to build it there. It was there so he could die and cocoon himself again.
When he first saw jayce and encountered the singularity, he was literally describing himself.
âself annihilating and replicatingâ That's him, this entity is connected to him, he is meant to die and be reborn over and over again. He might not completely embody it yet, but he is a product of it. (and he will probably gonna try to harness it, that's what the beginning of ep 6 set up.)
I don't think he expected jayce to shoot him, when he saw what he was going to do he looked pretty shocked, but he was intentionally kept docile by the core basically guaranteeing that even actually he will die out.
And then he had the audacity to conclude it must have happened cuz people just suck.
He tried nothing to prevent this and he is already out of options.
To his defense he was probably really lost in the sauce at this point.
This is also why he was making his following, he was supposed to draw power from them after he dies so he can be reborn again.
This also means that singed and ambessa are probably interfering with this process.
It would explain why he looks so wrong in the poster.
In conclusion, the core keeps Viktor in a mind state where he is docile enough not to question what's happening around him using his already existing flaws against him in order to spread itself.
One last thing I would like to add is that I don't think this will be his final transformation, I believe the final one will either happen at the top of the hex gate or at the bottom of it.

Chapter 8
You donât dare to draw a single breath. Those who were originally looking now turned away, knowing this was Sylusâ business now. For a second, it felt like time was frozen. Nobody moves, even Sylus. Caleb was going to get himself killed, all because he came to âsaveâ you. You still didnât understand how he knew youâd be here, with Sylus. How he even knew somebody like Sylus in the first place. You exhale shakily, trying to calm your nerves. Your lips part, about to speak, before Caleb inserts himself. Not good!
âWhat have you done to her?â Thereâs emphasis on each word, through gritted teeth. Never in your life have you seen this side of Caleb. Despite Sylusâ overwhelming presence, Caleb doesnât back down on his death glare.
âTo think someone like you came all the way hereâŠYou must have quite the confidence to take whatâs mine?â Sylus said, his voice calm and collected. You could feel the pressure of his hand on you tighten a bit. Internally, he must be seething.Â
âSheâs not yours!â Caleb yelled back, uncaring for the situation unfolding. You had to say something, you had to get him out of here. Out of every possible outcome, it would be the best course of action. Caleb looks at you, hesitant.Â
âUmâŠCalebâŠPlease. You should leave,â you beckoned, your hands shaking by your side. Your voice doesnât feel as strong as theirs. Clearing your throat, you speak again. âCaleb. Iâve been safe. I promise.â You hope he takes you seriously. He looks at you, astonished, before returning to the same angered expression.Â
âHeâs brainwashed you! Heâs bit you, hasn't he? After all these years of protecting you, I am not going to give up. Heâs been trying to find you this whole time.â Caleb doesnât give you a chance to react before he speaks again. âHeâs a monster. Heâs trying to turn you into a monster, too. Listen, thereâs so much you donât know. So much I havenât told you. But trust me when I sayââ
âYou have a lot of nerve to stand in front of me. The only reason youâre still breathing is because of her. I suggest you leave, now, before I do something about it,â Sylus warned Caleb, his grasp feeling tighter on you. Oh, he was definitely angry now. Calebâs words ring in your head, making you question too many things. But no matter how it made you dizzy, you had to do damage control now before there was bloodshed. Seeing how Caleb is now, you knew he wouldnât hesitate to fight Sylus. Worst of all, you knew Sylus would win against a human within the blink of an eye.Â
âStop!â You called out, the first thing you could think of. You turn to look back at Sylus. His eyes glared and his expression troubled. âLetâs leave,â you muttered to him. Your face pleaded you didnât want to experience another moment of this. Even if it meant leaving Caleb, again. Forever, this time youâre sure. It broke your heart, but there was nothing else that could be done. Caleb heard your words, his mouth open with shock. He doesnât say anything. Sylus calms himself at your words, removing his hand on you.Â
âVery well,â he said, his voice rather curt. He leans down close to your ear, his eyes still burning onto Caleb. âHold tight.â He wraps his hand around your waist. You spare Caleb another look before Sylus takes you, vanishing within a second.Â
For a moment, you thought you saw Caleb reach out. It was too late.Â
As quick as disappearing, you and Sylus arrive back at his estate with ease. But the event, the entirety of tonight, made you feel sick. You hunch over, for fear of actually getting sick. Your mind and everything around you spins uncontrollably. How? Why? Why?
âSylusâŠâ You began speaking. A part of you was afraid to meet his eyes. Was he angry? Did he think you knew about Caleb coming? Your mind suddenly recalled Calebâs words; heâs been looking for you.Â
He rests his heavy hand onto your back. It feltâŠsupportive. âIt seems I canât let this kitten out of my sight,â he said, his tone amused. You were relieved he didnât sound angry anymore, but it still didnât put you at ease. Your dress was uncomfortable now, your jewelry feeling heavy. The choker around your neck felt suffocating. When you didn't respond immediately, Sylus spoke again. âAre you hurt?âÂ
âNoâŠI justâŠI donât understand anything right now,â you said quietly. Your face flushes with heat and suddenly you feel like you could cry. You couldnât recognize your own emotions and it made you feel like a foreigner in your own body. You still donât look at Sylus, hesitant to show him such raw emotion. You begin to walk away, expecting Sylus to stop you. But he doesnât, instead he watches you go to your room. You change, the weight of tonightâs clothes bearing the turmoil of what happened. Slipping into something more loose and comfortable, you decide you will ask Sylus your questions. You leave the room and expect Sylus to be in his dining room. As you walk, you try to gather the questions in your head. You wonât let him be vague this time, because thereâs something definitely going on.Â
You push open the heavy doors of the room, finding Sylus gazing out of his massive window. He couldnât be more beautiful in the moonlight, but he doesnât turn at your arrival.
âWe need to talk,â you said with newfound confidence. You needed answers. Your heart raced, never speaking to Sylus in this way before.Â
âOh? What about?â He still stared at the window. You figured he was still irritated over Caleb. You sigh, walking over to him as he sits in his large leather chair. He glances up at you, something playful in his face flickers for a moment. He liked seeing you stand before him.Â
âI need answers. Caleb said you have been looking for me forever. I asked you if you were the reason I was put up at auction and you said no!â Your voice raises, frustration bubbling inside of you. Whatever feelings you had that you buried were now coming alive. You didnât like it, you didnât feel like yourself. Sylus cocks an eyebrow, surprised at your energy.Â
âI donât lie like mortals do,â he sneered, âI have been looking for you, yes. I only found you because of the auction. I had no part in any of it.â He still stares at you from his chair, watching you unfold. That familiar feeling of pressure forms in your face again, tears urging in your eyes. It was almost equally embarrassing and frustrating.Â
âHow does Caleb know you?â You clenched your fists, trying to control your emotions.Â
âI donât know him personally. I know heâs been with you since you were a child. My name is everywhere, though. It does not surprise me,â he said, matter-of-fact. He was starting to be vague again, the one thing you were not going to let him do. He notices your hand tightly closed and gently touches your hand with the back of his fingers. You started to question everything, you backed away from his touch. He didnât like that. âI was going to ease you into things, but it looks like that man ruined it,â he said, sounding disgusted. He waits for your reaction for a second, then grabs your wrist. âSit. You will want to sit for this.â You donât protest as he pulls you into his lap. You adjust, sitting comfortably. He strokes your cheek, tenderly, as if to prepare for whatâs to come.Â
âHe is right; I have been looking for you. Heâs done a very good job at hiding you, until recently.â Sylus hold on you is possessive. He speaks slowly, letting each word sink into your mind. âThat man was against your former profession, wasnât he? He could no longer keep you away. Youâve wanted to know the unknown, havenât you?â Sylus was right. Caleb was like your brother, but easily overbearing. When you took on your new job, going on missions, he was unsupportive. Little did you know that Caleb knew Sylus would getÂ
you.Â
âWhyâŠâ is all you could mutter out. Your life from the start felt like a lie, and you werenât sure what to believe. Your eyes said it all.Â
Sylus wears a troubled expression. âI donât expect you to believe me. Trust me when I say I do not lie.â He takes a breath, making you nervous. âLong ago, there was an experimental research factory. They discovered aether cores and used human subjects, as young as five.âÂ
He pauses, his words slow and concise. Your stomach churns, as your brain tries to fill in the gaps.
âI was one of their subjects. They were cruel, and inhumane. They wanted to create a human with power, strength. Countless humans died and I happened to be the one to survive. I came out, exceeding their expectations. They made me an artificial vampire, whether that was their only goal or not, I survived.â The silence after his words were heavy, almost deafening. You continued to listen as hearing Sylus speak of himself was rare. âI was unstable, uncontrollable. I escaped, leaving myself to the horrors of the new world. The organization of vampires knew about these experimentsâthem being heavily against it. They found me and made me who I am today.â
âWhat about the research facility?â You questioned. Your mind thought about all of the possible pain and torture Sylus went through, at such a young age too.Â
âNobody, including myself, would predict my capabilities. I was stronger than a human, yes, but found myself to be more powerful than a pureblooded vampire. I took that power and ascended. I returned to the facility, knowing they still continued with their research. I single handedly killed every member of that facility and burned their notes.â Sylus stares at his fingertips, as if reminiscing the blood stains. âThere were only a few human subjects this time. Two of them were beyond saving, but there was one human left; you.â He gently touches your side, his comfort minimal but it kept you in reality.Â
Upon hearing this, you couldnât believe it but deep down in your gut you knew Sylus was telling the truth. If you were standing, your knees wouldâve fallen weak. You run your hands through your face and hair, making sure you are still real. That, all of your entire life, was real. When Sylus stopped speaking, you could hear your heartbeat drum in your ears. You could tell Sylus was still trying to ease you into it all, trying not to overwhelm you, but you were already at that point.Â
ââŠTell me everything,â you said, voice muffled as you lay your face in your hands.Â
âYou were the youngest subject they ever had; you were born with an aethor core inside of you. You grew up in the lab healthy, alive. It seemed that you werenât displaying any change but before I did anything, the lab was raided by government officials. I withdrew, immediately knowing you would be taken somewhere better,â he explained. He clenches his jaw as his eyes burn into yours.Â
Your world was cracking around you and you felt heavy with confusion. Your brain tried remembering a shred of anything, any form of memory or feeling of being at a lab. You were raised by your grandmother until she passed, and your older childhood friend Caleb was around after that. How could it be possible? The same thing that created Sylus was buried in you, somewhere. The same thing that made him desire blood and crush anything in his way. The thought of all of it made you tremble out of fear and anxiety.Â
â...You have been monitored by government officials your whole life. They feared I would come back to finish you off, but I have been searching for you because we are the same. I want to show you the potential you have, not those selfish fools.â Sylus strokes his hand down your hair tenderly and his actions ground you to reality.
Everything is falling out from your feet, your brain scattered with anxious thoughtsâ answers youâll never know. Itâs too much, too much, too much.
We are the same.

Ditto on the getting spooked off by the fearmongering, it literally took multiple years (and a lot of patience on his part) for me to figure out how to have a conversation with Odin without getting too intimidated by His Reputation to hear him over my own anxietyâthis despite the fact that in retrospect, I had felt a draw to a lot of Odin-adjacent things ever since I was a kid. And even once I did start taking to him, many of our interactions have had the feeling of someone trying to socialize a feral cat (though thatâs also due in part to some personal trauma I was trying to work through at the time).
But despite everything Iâd heard, heâs never done anything like make things harder for me on purpose, let alone as some sort of test. We had One fight a few years back, after heâd crossed what I hadnât actually *said* was a boundary (partly because I didnât realize it would even come up)âand once I made that boundary explicit, heâs fully respected it ever since. Other than that one (1) time, most of my experiences with him have just been⊠him offering support and guidance, as Iâve been going through Some Shit. Even when heâs taken me to task on some of my more self-destructive tendencies, heâs never been needlessly harsh or combative.
I definitely wonât say that he Never tests peopleâlargely because I just donât want to speak for anyone else, but also because he *is* a teacher, and sometimes the most effective way to get a difficult lesson across is to let the student fuck up in a controlled setting. But not everyone needs to be taught that kind of lesson, or would respond well to it, so why do it when it isnât helpful or necessary?
Idk, Iâm kinda just rambling here. I just donât get how someone would look at the same Old Man who's talked me down from panic attacks and sat with me through the worst parts of med withdrawals⊠and somehow come to the conclusion that he's someone who must be Approached With Caution Lest He Ruin Your Life. It just doesnât make sense to me. Like, yeah he Could fuck up someoneâs life, but⊠why would he bother? Why would he Want to? Why is the default assumption that *the allfather* doesnât give a shit about you or your well-being?
I love the most recent ask on vikings-til-valhallaâs account. Iâm telling my impressions separately because theyâre rather about the ask than the response, which is quite personal. I quite like this personâs ask, and I agree wholeheartedly with their point. Iâve never been a fan of the idea that ĂĂ°inn is a hard-loving deity who will throw hardships at you just to âtestâ you. My experience has never showed anything remotely similar. Hardships happen but theyâre most likely not the doing of a deity, theyâre simply a part of life. And Iâve experienced ĂĂ°inn as a deity who is loving and gentle, pretty much like a wise grandfather. While I know deities manifest themselves in different ways to different people, I feel like selling insistingly the idea that ĂĂ°inn will for some reason bombard you with tests to beat you down or whatever is not only far from reality, but it can also deter someone who is interested in working with him.
#i do think that being able to know and express your own boundaries is an essential part of having a solid relationship with him#but⊠isnât that an essential part of having a healthy relationship with Anyone?#isnât it so much easier to take on difficult things when you know for a fact that either one of you can and will say âstopâ when needed?#boundaries arenât a barbed-wire fence theyâre guardrails#the only people trying to get them taken down are idiots who will get people hurt#or assholes actively trying to hurt you#i firmly believe that Odin is said to respect people who are willing to dig in their heels and tell him no#because that means he can trust you to do so#not because he like. thinks itâs funny or whatever.#anyway Iâm gonna stop rambling now and go to bed

~ SWTD: Still Here AU Part 27: ~
No Hard Feelings:
And, here we are, the final chapter for season 1. Yes. You read that right. There will be a season 2, but it won't begin until after Christmas. Until then, I have another announcement and I'll be focusing on my own project as well.
I also want to thank everyone who's been following this story, and hopefully will continue to do so going forward.
The glow from the fire pit greeted Suze and Rennick. Caz waved them over as Trots and Simon began to serve everyone. Suze headed for her husband and took her spot on the steps. Rennick awkwardly sat between Gibbo and Roy, unable to look them in the eye. He wanted to be with Suze. In just ten minutes, she had become a source of comfort for him. Letting out all his feelings and washing away his 'King' façade, which was both a blessing and a curse, because now he was just Davey Rennick. But, who was Davey Rennick?
Gibbo handed him a bowl of casserole, which he took with a quiet 'thank you.' He could feel everyone's eyes on him. Soon, they all took their seats around the firepit. Small chatter filled the air. Rennick stared at his food. He didn't have the appetite. One last thing weighed on his mind. Now, it was his turn to be brave.
'I know,' everyone stopped and turned. They saw the anxiety in Rennick's eyes. Too late to go back now. 'I've been more than a shit manager to all of you. And, what I did has caused us all to be here. Because of me, you lot,' referring to the infected. 'Will never be the same again, and I can't fix that. You all had to deal with who I was for so long, and, looking back, I'm surprised you didn't throw me overboard.' An empty joke no one laughed at, but Rennick made another empty chuckle. It was his way of finding strength. 'And I'm sorry you had to deal with who I was for so long. I just...' A sigh. 'I dunno. Turned into something you all had to see.' He paused to catch his breath. 'I don't want to be that man anymore, but I don't know where to start. And-'
'And we want to apologise.'
Rennick flinched when he felt someone touch the top of his head. It was Gibbo. That surprised Rennick. He thought Gibbo would never speak to him again. The last time he did, he split his cheek and brow open.
'...F-For what?'
'For not supporting you. You got us here, and we never thanked you for it.'
'No. You don't need to-'
'We're also sorry for not noticing how you've been feeling,' Brodie interrupted. 'We're in this together, and we should have seen what you're going through.'
Rennick was stunned. He glanced to Gibbo, then to everyone else. He didn't understand. He saw their kind eyes, causing his to widen. No one's looked at him like that in a long time. He didn't know what to say.
'Ah, King Rennick,' Roy hummed, breaking the silence. 'Well, if he's officially gone, then...' He moved to grab a beer, opening and handing it to Rennick. 'I'm happy to finally meet you.'
He accepted with a small yet genuine smile. 'Let's hope this one isn't a prick, eh?' They tapped the bottom of their bottles together before taking a swig. Still weaker than piss. The robin flew and perched on Rennick's arm, softening his eyes. Everyone noticed, and seeing their manager smile, whilst different, was nice to see.
'Okay then, Davey, tell us a bit about yourself?' Trots smirked.
'What?'
'Oh God,' Caz snickered under his breath.
'We do it with anyone who joins the friend group.'
It took Rennick a moment to realise what they were saying, and he just laughed. Yet again, it was different but nice to see.
'So, we know you like to laugh,' Trots joked. 'Good to know.'
'Oh, and what about you, Campbell?'
'He's trained in ballroom dancing,' Simon answered without hesitation, causing Trots to snap his head to his lover and nudge him in the arm. Everyone except O'Connor, Mary, Gibbo, and Irene was shocked. They knew he was into classical music from the 40s, but he never told anyone that he swayed around on the dance floor.
'And you never told us,' O'Connor teased, causing Trots' face to go red, who now realised he's been played at his own game.
'So, you do have a personality outside of a Union,' Gibbo continued.
'Come on,' Addair encouraged, putting on a terrible Scottish Accent. 'Do a little jig.' For once, everyone agreed with him.
'Okay, next!' Trots yelled a little too loudly, making Simon laugh, earning another small nudge. 'You're on the naughty list,' he whispered.
'Oh, you tease,' Simon whispered back, before sneaking in a small kiss on the cheek.
'Well, actually...' Raffs got to his feet and went inside the house. Rennick didn't expect anything and just thought the young lad was going to get more drinks. Until he returned with a dart board in his hands. 'We'd like to know if you can play?'
For some reason, that got Rennick to laugh again. He didn't know where it came from. Was it nerves? Maybe. But, the man was happy, and his smile grew wider.'Got any darts?'
The crew and their families had learned three things about Davey Rennick.
One; He loved to laugh. Sometimes, it fell into a mischievous giggle, which was rather infectious.
Two: He adored the bird. A tendril was always stroking the top of the robin's head, and she didn't seem to mind. Roy, however, had a feeling he was an animal lover. The food he always gave him would quickly vanish with a clean plate, knife and fork, and seagulls loved to perch around his office.
Three: He was really good at darts, beating Brodie's score with flying colours, causing everyone to cheer and hug him. Something else for Rennick to be surprised by, freezing up his body and just allowing it to happen. His mind wandered back to the final night on the rig, when Caz confessed what he did to Billy. Although he wasn't there, he completely understood Caz's feelings and the high spirits everyone felt. It then flashed to when Brodie won the darts. Again, he understood the feeling. How wonderful it was. No wonder he was jealous. Thankfully, it wasn't a mosh pit, but he, too, had to hold back his tears again.
'Alright, get off. I need another beer.' That wasn't going to be so easy. Muir, just like he did with Brodie and Caz, lifted the man up above his head as if he was holding a cat under their arms. Rennick yelped in surprise before begging to be put down. Wish granted. He moved away from his crewmates, who were now setting the dart board up for another round, because Brodie wasn't losing his title after working so hard to get it.
With a content sigh, Rennick sat near to the firepit and watched from afar. The robin landed on his nose. A beer came into his peripheral vision. He turned. It was Caz. Rennick accepted whilst the leccy pulled reposition a chair and sat beside him.
'Thanks.'
'Nae bother.' They tapped the bottles together and took a swig. 'I see Suze got through to you.'
'Aye. You chose her well.'
'Nah. She chose me, and I nearly fucked it up.' Caz felt Rennick wrap a tendril around his shoulder for support. 'But, I think we're back on track now.' He then noticed the robin still resting. 'What's her name?'
'Still debating on that.' They watched the bird fly and nestle on the crown of his head. 'But...' Rennick didn't have any personal memories of her, but the name was fitting. 'I like the name Ruby.'
'Ruby it is then.' Another tap of their beer bottles. 'See, Rennick?'
'What?'
'Does this mean we're okay, like? No hard feelings?'
Rennick was quiet for a moment. He looked at Caz. Deep down, he expected some feelings to bubble to the surface. The hatred and anger he felt when he read the letter. That feeling of betrayal from someone he did respect. His blood boiling. How he wanted to give the leccy the same treatment he gave Billy during their 'meeting.' How he wanted to crush every bone in his body when he chased him throughout Administration. But, none of that happened. Not even the pain from transforming entered his mind. The man was content. Finally at peace. The pair turned back to watch the darts game.
'Aye. No hard feelings.'

Summary: Was I stupid to love you? Was I reckless to help? Was it obvious to anybody else? That I have fallen for a lie. You were never on my side. Fool me once, fool me twice. Are you death or paradise?
Was I stupid to love you? Was I reckless to help? Was it obvious to anybody else? That I have fallen for a lie. You were never on my side. Fool me once, fool me twice. Are you death or paradise?
Was I the problem? Did I do something to make you hate me so much?Â
Why didnât you just leave me instead of lying so many times to my face?
Was I stupid to love you? Was I reckless to help? Was it obvious to anybody else?Â
I hope you rot in this hell you have made yourself. Itâs my last gift I will give to you.
You knew how my life was before I met you. Yet you still did this to me.Â
Cold. Calculated. That is all you will ever be.
If I had the power to curse you. I would have done it long ago.Â
Once I leave this house, this country all over again. Do yourself a favour. Stay away from me.
Stay far, far away from me.
Otherwise, I can and most absolutely will kill you myself.
If you wish to keep your life.
Stay in your country and I will stay in mine.
I donât want to be pushed into a corner. But you keep being adamant on doing so.
Donât blame me when I bite you. Blame yourself for ignoring the warning signs.
You are the reason we are no longer married. Take accountability for your actions and shut the fuck up.Â
König. You still donât know if thatâs his actual name or just simply a call sign. He never told you either way.Â
But what does it matter?Â
The man who had once been the epitome of comfort and support in your life had become a shadow of his former self. The trust that had once been as solid as steel between you had been shattered into a million pieces.
Leaving a gaping chasm of doubt and anger in its place.Â
The coldness in his eyes, the way he looked at you now, it was like you were nothing but a stranger to him.Â
Someone who had merely crossed his path at the wrong time.
"I will leave, and you won't see me again." you snarl, getting up to get your things.
König remains seated, his expression unreadable. "Reaper, I know you're upset, but we need to talk about this."
"There's nothing to talk about. You chose to cheat. You made that choice. Suffer the consequences. I'm not the one who needs to explain anything. You're the one who broke our vows.âÂ
âMy life is in my hands. I will not become who you are.â You told him. Your knuckles turning white from the way you turned your hands into fists. You were so tired of the kind of excuses coming from the mouths of men who neither cared nor wanted you around.Â
You werenât going to let König know you again. To choose death than suffer through his presence a second time. It made so much sense to you. You do enough talk. What did you learn from your mistakes? Did you even learn from them at all?Â
If he canât see it. May he drown inside his endless well of pitiful tears.Â
You are not his wife, his friend, his punching bag. The call sign âGrim Reaperâ? You earned it for a reason. Too bad heâs too blind to see it.Â
What has eyes but cannot see?Â
Escape.
Escape and run faster than he can hope to catch up.Â
If he canât take the hint, thenâŠ..you would have to kill him yourself.
Canât be too hard to kill a six-foot ten adult man, right?
You can hear the shouting between him and his girlfriend. A sickening, twisted grin spreads across your face. Sweet revenge for the child you lost years ago. Weight began to lift from your shoulders. It wasnât over by a long shot. But now you know how to twist the knife to get what you wanted in order to leave.Â
To head back home where you felt like you belonged completely.Â
Home. Your home.Â
The one where you donât have to hide from broken bottles, yelling, shouting, endless need to feel like you have to explain yourself.Â
Could it still be there when you go back? Will it still be there now?

Chapter 21 - I have never cried so much in my two lives as I do today
Previous chapter / Next chapter
I wiped the tears that rolled down my cheeks, trying incessantly to calm myself, taking several deep breaths so I could speak. I want so much to be able to tell him everything, to all of them. I want to get rid of this weight, but I donât have the courage to do so, but I know I canât keep everything to myself.
â I... Iâve been having nightmares. â That was the way I decided to start, at least I should tell that part, after all, it involved them directly. â with the shadow. It started the night I first saw him, and I have reason to believe heâs behind it.
As I spoke, Time remained quiet, understanding, letting me talk at my own pace while rubbing circles on my back in na attempt to calm me down further. My voice was weak and tearful, shameful, I must sound pathetic right now.
â He doesnât exactly appear in the dream, but itâs always something dark. The second time it happened was when I passed out, but it didnât seem like a nightmare, until tonight, when I discovered that it was all created by that thing. â I continued, considering how much I could tell him. â He made me dream about my family, to the point of making me think that meeting you had been nothing more than a dream. I think he wanted to trap me in that.
My voice weakened at the thought of it, thinking that that thing used people I love for such a vile reason filled me with anguish. I need to be more honest with him.
â So, that night I had another nightmare. He talked to me, he kept talking about how I shouldnât be with you guys and... â I took a deep breath â that you would leave me, hate me when you found out the truth.
â The truth about what? â Time asked, his tone seemed intimidating when I knew that the answer to this question could upset him, anger him or even hurt him.
â He threatened to tell my secret, a secret that if you guys found out you would hate me. Iâm so sorry, Time, Iâm so sorry! I never wanted to keep any secret, I never imagined something like this could happen. â My crying intensified, and I struggled to control the sobs that were hampering my speech. â At first I didnât know who you guys were, I didnât trust you completely, I was just a stranger and you would think I was crazy if I said that kind of thing! And as time went by it became even more difficult.
â Calm down, itâs okay. Whatever it is, I will understand, you donât need to be afraid, we wonât leave you. In these last few days, youâve managed to become more than just someone we need to protect, my dear. Youâve become part of this group, and we wonât leave you no matter what happens. Whatever it is, weâll help you get through it.
The Old Manâs words were comforting, even though I still had my doubts about how far he would go to keep this. I donât know if Iâm ready, but I know they need to know, if I keep this to myself any longer, even when Time was so supportive, it would be a reason for them to not trust me, one more reason for them to hate me in the end.
â I want to tell you. I really want to, I need to too, if I find out through the shadows it could be much worse. I donât know if I can, or you wonât believe me, or youâll hate me, and both options are bad. â I tried to prepare him before everything, maybe if he knew how bad what I was going to say would be the impact would be better. â But first, thereâs a problem. I donât think Iâm in my right mind, I canât sleep.
â Well, I could tell that, why? Was it because of the threats?
â Yes, but itâs worse. There are not only empty threats in the dreams that await me, if I sleep and he makes me have nightmares again, I might never wake up. Last night, he did something with the dream that made me hurt my ribs... â I said, then I moved to lift my tunic until the purple on my skin was visible. â And today I came across this, in the same place, and thereâs no way I could have done it outside of this nightmare.
I tried to read the heroâs expression as I made my point, I couldnât tell if he believed it or not. But I wouldnât judge him if he didnât believe it, it was hard for me to do so. I definitely didnât expect Timeâs normally serious gaze to turn into a melancholic look full of regret, seeing it in his eyes made my heart clench, I felt guilty.
â Iâm sorry. â He said, his voice low and weak, and that was definitely not what I expected to hear. Before I could question, the large man beside me pulled me into a warm hug on his lap, squeezing me firmly, but gently so as not to hurt me. â Itâs my fault, I should have paid more attention. Your safety is my responsibility, and I relaxed when I thought I would be safe around here. I should have considered all the possibilities, I should have been more cautious, I should have noticed the signs to prevent things from getting that far.
His hug was warm, his warm body against mine was comforting, I had to hold back the emotional tears that filled my eyes. Time was without his armor, which was good, because I donât think hugging him with that serious thing is that comfortable. I donât know what made him think he was somehow to blame for all this, but it wasnât true.
â Please donât blame yourself. Iâm the only one to blame for having kept all this from you for so long. Link, I want to tell you the truth, all of it, and I ask that you please listen to everything before you jump to conclusions. And also, I donât know if I can do the same for others, but Iâll understand if you think I should, because itâs true. â He shook his head, trying to contradict my pessimistic assumptions, but I just wanted to get this weight off my shoulders. â I had a life before this.
If he found that last sentence strange, he didnât show it, but he was definitely contemplative. Of course, that alone wouldnât be enough for him to jump to his own conclusions, but it might be enough for him to think Iâm delusional.
â I mean, literally, a past life that I remember clearly. I died and was reincarnated here, in this life, with all the memories, even those of my last moments. That in itself seems crazy, or not so much if you stop to think that you have also been reincarnated, even if you donât have the memories, you can literally know your past life, I mean. â I interrupted myself, seeing that I was getting away from the focus. â The problem is that in my past life I was from another world. Or rather, another reality, probably. A very different one from here, different countries, kingdoms, culture, technology, races. A place where there is no magic or monsters, where the only rational race is the human being. With round ears, different from the Hylians. Oh, and the goddess Hylia herself or any other deity from here doesnât exist there either.
I observed his expressions, waiting for any sign that would make me give up. But there was nothing, he seemed to be accepting all of this well, he just waited for me to continue until I got to the point of it all, the secret that I was so afraid to reveal. When he realized that I wasnât continuing, he decided to say something to calm me down.
â I donât think thatâs crazy, if you want to know. For someone who has traveled through time several times, divided the timeline into three, is the reincarnation of a heroâs spirit and fought the demon king himself, a different reality isnât that absurd. â He said, trying to comfort me and making me laugh softly in a tearful voice.
â Thatâs not the big problem, yet. â I sighed, mentally preparing myself for this, and continued. â In my old life, the world was full of technology, after all, we didnât have any magic to help us. Among these technologies, there was something called video games, games, made to entertain people, telling stories, giving challenges, it was a type of thing that we saw on a screen like the one on the Sheikah slate in Wild and controlled characters with controllers, for fun. And for everyone thatâs what it was, games, just that, just stories invented to entertain us.
It was clear he didnât understand the point of it all, but he remained silent as I continued to explain, trying as best I could to make it all make some sense to him.
â I played several of these games, I loved them, but my favorites were a series of games with a particular story, one that seemed to be complete among them, even though it was possible to play them separately. These games told your story, Link. Yours and the others. Each of you had at least one game of your own, which I played and got to know all of your heroic adventures, from your point of view, I learned things, secrets, that you never told anyone. Not just me, but thousands of other people too. â I stopped, feeling my breathing become nervously uneven. I sighed and continued, not daring to look him in the eyes. â I didnât know, I had no idea that it was all real. That was so common to me, so everyday, as common as reading a book around here. I didnât know that everything was real, I didnât know that you existed, I had no idea who was invading your space, and I definitely didnât imagine that one day I would meet you! Me- Iâm sorry, I acted like they were strangers to me when I knew so many things I shouldnât have. I acted like I didnât understand what was happening when I experienced everything from the comfort of my home. It took me a few years to understand everything and come to terms with it when I reincarnated, that everything I played was a fact, and when I did I felt bad about it, but I didnât think it would go any further. I never thought I would meet them, much less that they would end up becoming such important people to me, to whom I would end up lying like a traitor!
I was already in a state of aesthetic crying again, the heroâs grip tightened around me, bringing me even closer to his body, letting me cry into his chest while rubbing my back in comfort. Even after that, even after I told him all these things, he was still worried about me, about how I was feeling. He should be furious, for being seen as just a story, for being a game, for not telling him. But no, he didnât show any of that, at least not now.
â Hey, look at me. â His voice was soft as he gently held my chin and lifted it so I could look him in the eyes, but I looked away, unable to bear the weight of the guilt. He just wiped away the tears that were running down his face. â Itâs okay, I believe you. I really do. And Iâm not mad.
â Youâre not? â I couldnât be more perplexed.
â Of course not, dear. Youâre not to blame for anything in this story. It would be the same as blaming someone for reading a book, wouldnât it? To you, we were just characters like so many others, just like the ones in books Iâve read, and whoâs to say theyâre not real too? Maybe theyâre in another reality, if this happened to you it can happen to anyone, and that doesnât make you a bad person. â His words hit me like a wave of relief and doubt at the same time, making me cry horribly more, but this time, my crying was much more associated with how relieved I was by this reaction coming from him.
â But I kept this secret, shouldnât you be mad at me for it? â Of course I didnât want him to be, but I had to be sure.
â No, I understand you, in your situation I might never tell anyone. You were brave and selfless, you had your home destroyed, you were forced to join us, knowing full well what our enemy is capable of. You didnât use any of your knowledge against us and you were always empathetic. That in itself shows what a good person you are. â Even with those words that warmed my heart, I still felt guilty. â You made the best choice, I donât think it would have been wise to tell you this when we first met, and itâs totally fair that you were afraid. Please, donât blame yourself.
â Link, Iâm so sorry... â His look was enough to make me stop with that sentence, I was blaming myself again. â But I want you to know that you are all very special to me, and that was the reason I avoided telling you the truth so much. I donât know what I would do if they hated me, but I couldnât blame them. But I donât know if Iâm ready to tell others either.
â I understand, you donât have to, not now. I also think itâs better to wait, we have other things to deal with now. I donât think theyâll react badly, but itâs a lot to process, and right now Iâd prefer for them to focus on the mission. â He ran his hand through my hair as he spoke, trying to calm the rest of the crying that was still left. â Donât worry about them getting upset about keeping this to yourself either, Iâll tell them it was my idea.
That was good enough for me, I was able to calm down and think better about it all. In the end, I think I should thank that shadow for something, if it werenât for his threat maybe I would have taken much longer to reveal this and things could have been much worse. Iâm grateful to have Timeâs support now, a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I wouldnât be able to show him my gratitude with words, but maybe with actions it will become easier. I grabbed the big man in a tight hug. It was a little difficult, he was quite big to hug, but man, what a good hug. He wrapped his arms around my back, returning the hug warmly.
â Thank you, really. I donât know what I would do without you. â My voice was muffled because my face was against his body.
â Itâs okay, honey, Iâm here, and Iâll make sure that shadow doesnât hurt you, ever again. â I felt his grip tighten, protectively. â So, youâre technically older mentally than physically, right?
â Hm? Oh, well, yes, I must be twice as old mentally. Why?
â Nothing, I was just curious, but that kind of makes sense. â He said, laughing softly. â Now, you should sleep.
â Oh, Iâm exhausted. I donât know how Iâm saying it yet. But I canât...
â Yes, you can, donât worry about it, Iâll stay here with you, I wonât let anything happen, and Iâll wake you up if you have another nightmare. â He said, pushing me away so he could look me in the eyes.
â What? But then you wonât get any rest! â I complained, Iâm not willing to rest at the expense of others.
â Itâs okay, seriously. Iâm used to it, and I can sleep in the morning, itâs good to enjoy it while weâre still in Skyloft.
I sighed, too tired to argue with this. The empathetic part of my brain said it wasnât right, but everything else was begging for a long nap. Maybe this wasnât such a bad idea after all, at least I was willing to give it a try. Before I could agree, Time picked me up with impressive ease and stood up, able to put me down on the bed properly for the night.
â Hey, whatâs up? It wasnât necessary.
â Yeah, it wasnât necessary, but I wanted to.
Sometimes this grown man could be very childish when he wanted to be. I like that. He laid me down on the bed and covered me with the blanket, pulling the armchair in the room closer so he could stay there during the night. He kept only a flickering light from the lamp on, so he could continue reading a book and avoid accidentally falling asleep. Then he finally approached me, placing a soft kiss on my forehead.
â Good night, my dear, have sweet dreams and rest. Iâm here for you.
With that, it didnât take long for me to lose consciousness and fall into the dream world I had been waiting for, dreaming, for some reason, of muscular blonds who carry me in their arms wherever I want to go.

"I can understand that," Leofric said, "But you have us on your side. You have our support no matter what. Never be worried to ask for our assistance. We've got you, as William would say."
Russell felt a brief jolt of anxiety when he realised Rook seemed to be looking for something or someone. Had they been pursued by someone wanting to finish the job while they were here and vulnerable?
"Oh, that's, that's fair," Russell said, "Hopefully he'll stay safe."
"Well, if he doesn't, it's his choice," Bill said, as he walked over and gave Rook a small smile, "Grown ups will always make their own choices, even if they might be daft ones. It's part of life after all. I'm glad you're okay, Rook, and that you're awake, Russell."
"I'm glad you're all okay," Russell agreed, before he then thought about the question, "I, I think it was. He, he was, he was using poisons or, or at least chemicals..."
Russell thought, doing his best to summon the memories through the painful fog in his brain.
"He, he was, he was like, putting them into himself to, to use them. Like when, when one of those frogs eats, eats a poisonous bug to, to get it themselves. They, they changing like, his hair and, and eyes, I think it was those," Russell added then, "He, he was gonna touch me to, to do something, he, he had taken off his gloves... I, I don't know what it, what it was going to do, and, and I don't really wanna know. Maybe a, a truth serum or, or something..."
He shook his head.
"Said it, it would, it would jog my memory," Russell added, "And I wouldn't be, I wouldn't be able to protect, to protect my friends."
"Well, it clearly didn't work if you managed to escape," Bill said, although more as a speculation than anything, "Unless he actually did use it on you and you did spill things before you escaped."
"No, I'm, I'm very sure I, I didn't let him," Russell said, "I... I, I managed to get the drop on him before he, he could. Pure, pure fucking luck. He, he won't fall for it again. I'm, I'm sure of it."
"I know, I know⊠I just wish we weren't all going through this mess."
But they were going to pull through this one too and hopefully get closer to solving this mystery. Rook made it a big show of checking the floor and their surroundings.
"Sorry, Iâm just checking for the mist. If you see any fog all of a sudden, it won't be the Hat man, but just Lucien who found his way here."
Hopefully, the fae's ears were tingling because of this. He was still recovering, regardless of how bored, or worried about his friends, he got.
"Looks like you got off somewhat easy this time. No getting smacked off buildings and all that." Rook added, before her expression grew serious, "So who did it? Was it the same guy who hurt Lucien?"

the world is infinitely worse off without my friend
#grief#i am sitting in a parking lot crying MAN this year is bad#he was a disaster a mess a fuckup but who cares. he made the world an infinitely better place. most giving person iâve ever known#itâs also amazing to me how he managed to be an incredibly selfish person but also the biggest support in the world to people he loved. and#the reason Iâm saying all this is because if he knew that i was portraying him as some sort of saint now that heâs dead he will rise from#the grave to murder me LMAOOOO heâd tell me to go fuck myself and be honest. so thatâs what Iâll do#never have i had someone support me like he did. never. he would go to war with anyone for me. he was there for every decision good and bad#because he knew that the way to get me out of the bad situations was never to turn his back and always support with whatever i needed. and#he was also an incredible sibling. his siblings are so much worse off without him#.txt

I'm reading at work again... đ Let's gooooo...!!!
You weave strands of his hair into elaborate braids in your lap, before undoing them and creating something greater in their stead. He eventually quiets under your idle fiddling, eyes drifting shut with a contented smile gracing his face, like a cat napping in the afternoon sun. You love him like this; no cares, no worries of war. You can soothe him like no one else, a great source of pride whenever he mentions it.
PLEASE I NEED THIS IT WOULD FIX ME AND FIX HIM, FIX US BOTH! đ©
"Whatever it is, it doesn't matter, you're the only thing that matters. We have to go!" He never raises his voice to you, so you're a little dumbstruck when he growls at you.
Creepily and obsessively protective? I WANT!!! đ„ș
In the dead of night, flickering candlelight casting ominous shadows over your face, Sauron cannot help but admire you, crave you, as you corrupt his master's fate.
Well, can't blame him. The way you wrote this scene made me imagine it so vividly and she was so terrifyingly ominous. Love that. đ©·
"Forever and a day, a lonely fate will be yours. You shall not know the word of a friend, the loyalty of a follower, or the touch of a lover. I curse you to wander the Seen and Unseen world alone, craving the connection you sought to sunder here."Â
I'm sorry but has she cursed me too, perhaps? đđ€Ł
He gives you an affectionate smile; how could he not wait for you? Even if he did partake in sleep, he would not be able to rest without you at his side.
Male-wife! đđ»
"The Valar will never look upon me favourably, beloved. I could present them Melkor in chains and they would only bind me to him."
đđđ
"I did. And I found their response wanting." In truth he had tried to make amends, tried to do penance for the ages he'd spent in Morgoth's service, but when it came to approaching Manwë for his pardon, his fear overtook him and he fled back to Angband, but he couldn't tell you that, couldn't tell you he'd been weak, pitiful, his courage failing him at the final steps to absolution.
My pathetic little meow-meow... đŁđż
"Who do you think you are?" He hisses, venom in every word; you don't recognise him, cold terror in your heart at the sudden switch, as if someone had doused the candle burning for you in his heart with oil, engulfing him with wildfire.
Oooooooh here we go...! đ„đ„đ„
"Please... please let me go." The look in his eye says begging will be useless, but you try anyway.
"You are my Queen. You're free to do as you please." He replies, voice smooth, with a pretty smirk and that predatory glint in his eye that would usually thrill you so, that still sends hot arousal pooling between your thighs, mixed with icy cold terror.
"I'm sure it would..." he utters breathlessly as he takes you in, leaning over you, watching the artery in your throat jump in time to his own racing heartbeat.
I love this so much??? She can but she cannot...? She is his Queen and Queens need no permission but she is his Queen, therefore she belongs to him??? Ugh... đđ»
He worships at your altar, an acolyte to your pleasure.
đđđ
"If you were to leave me," he moans against your heated skin, stroking his cock against your thigh, "there would be no rest for any bird, beast, or being in this land, no sleep, no sustenance, these lands would burn until you were returned to me."
đ¶âđ«ïž I need him like a bitch in heat and let me remind you, I'm reading this at work. đ€Ł
It is in the middle of his speech, appealing to his army for their continued support, that Sauron notices you are absent.
MY POOR BABY! NOOO!!! đđđ
As he lay in a pool of thick black blood, his last thought was of you; how could you betray him? And thank the Valar you did.
NOOOO I WANT TO CURL UP AND CRY BUT I'M SITTING BY MY DESK... đ«
Haunted (Sauron/F!Reader)
...by the kiss you should never have given me
Lots of mini-chapters add up to an omnibus of angst, as we follow Sauron through the centuries and discover exactly what happened before his coronation.
Sequel to To Have and To Hold // Prequel to In the Dark of the Night // AO3 Link
Soundtrack: Kiss Me Harder by Jordan Fiction, Judas by Lady Gaga, Angels by Within Temptation, Heaven's A Lie by Lacuna Coil, NFWMB by Hozier
Warnings: 18+! Angst, smut, fluff, hurt/comfort, canon typical violence, manipulation, toxic relationship (more overt towards the end), obsessive!Sauron, soft!Sauron (yes the two can coincide), knifeplay (just a tiny bit), blood magic, Sauron is a bit of a dick towards the end, sorry, accidental prey/predator kink, knifeplay (again, tiny bit), grinding, slightly dubious consent (you do want it, but I'll tag anyway), oral sex (female receiving), P in V sex, more blood.
A/N: little bit of jumping around in this one, sorry, we start just after the wedding, then we jump to the fall of Gondolin, a little magic ritual in the middle, then the fallout from the sinking of Beleriand (why do you keep getting caught up in this??), then we close out the First Age with a little argument before someone's coronation! Little slices of their romance in quick succession! I went a little experimental in the form of this one, with a bunch of flashbacks informing the main plot at the end. I hope it works đ€
Special thanks to @olchr-1 for the idea for our revenge on Morgoth!!
Translation note: Amartherui translates in Sindarin to "lonely fate" [Fate (amarth) Alone (erui)]
Word Count: 6k!
Fingers entwined with his, head on his chest, you were enthralled by him, by every pretty word and sweet gesture. Every time he came to visit, you would spend days on end in your secluded glade, to make up for his inexplicably long periods of absence. Sometimes he would come to you with dizzying tales of his latest triumphs, preening under your undivided attention. But lately he had taken to returning under black clouds, tetchy where he was usually playful, and rough where gentleness once reigned.
You had pulled him close to your breast and sank down into the petaled carpet of the forest floor, stroking his hair and listening as he raged on about the war in the north. You had kin fighting the armies of Morgoth, and knew his sorrows all too well, but something behind his eyes told you it was more than he was letting on.
You gaze down at his unearthly smooth features and trace each contour with your eyes; your fingers slow in their busy work, moving gently across his scalp, lazily twisting his hair around your finger, making a ring to match the one he'd gifted you, ornate and bejeweled, glittering with an impossible inner light, to replace the woven band of purple iris that he'd improvised on the night of your wedding.
"You're staring, love." He smiles, snapping open his eyes and fixing you with an affectionate expression that makes your heart melt.
"Is a wife not allowed to stare at her husband? Are there no privileges to marriage at all?" Your voice is soft but your tone is mischievous, and he smirks.
"I can think of a few, ah, privileges, dearest, in fact we have exercised a few already today." He raises his eyebrows, before pulling you down to meet his lips. "But if you need reminding, you need only ask."
-
You had agreed to meet in the same secluded glade at the next new moon, but he never showed. The hours you wasted awaiting his return were at first exciting, full of electric anticipation that only love's first bloom can give. As the moon slowly passed overhead, and twinkling stars gave way to blazing sun, you shed many a tear at your folly. Perhaps he had been some mirage, an illusion to tempt you? Or perhaps the depth of his feeling did not match yours, a fleeting thought you had to bury deep in case it irrevocably shattered your heart.
You frequent the glade every so often, convincing yourself that it was a perfectly fine place to pass your time, and that you were not reminded of his warm hands or even warmer smile, every time you visit. Deceiving yourself that it meant much less to you than it did, that if he returned now after so much time with no word or warning, you would not jump into his open arms without a second thought.
Your heartache is apparent to your friends and kin, who assume you're suffering the grief they all feel, having lost so many of their kind to Morgoth's rampage in the north. How little they knew; how little you knew.
It is only when one good friend mentions the siege at Angband, that you are struck with the terrible notion that the man you cursed for abandoning you, might not have done it willingly after all. That perhaps, Valar forbid, he had perished in the siege. He had mentioned fighting in the war after all, but you had not connected that with his absence. After all, he had promised to return to you, on the morning after you had met, having shared a blissful slumber in each other's arms. He held your hands to his lips and swore he would see you again, and now it makes sense. Now you have a real reason to grieve, you realise, and the anger roiling within you turns cold, an icy pit in your stomach as tears fall freely and your heart wrenches and cracks. You were to only have one night with him, and you might never even discover his true fate.
You reason with yourself that surely you would feel if the other half of you had flown this mortal plain. But the alternative was much crueler, and to believe him dead was somehow a less hopeless fate.
Centuries later when you look back, you curse yourself for not seeing who he was, and what he'd done, but how could you? He'd taken you as his own and that was such a strong spell to break, Eru himself would have had to step in.
-
To see your city fall at the hands of your husbandâs master, you had no words, only wet hot tears as you watch your people die.
"Love, we have to go, come now," he holds you firmly by the arms, shaking you a little to clear your mind of the dust and debris and blood on the streets of Gondolin.
"I can't, I can't leave them, I have to find-"
"No, we're evacuating, you're not staying a minute longer. I should not have let you linger here when He appeared on the horizon, we should have-"
You tug your arm from his vice-like grip. "Should have what? Should have left my people to wrack and ruin? We have to..." Your mind is so murky, filled with thoughts of leaving, running as far as you can with him, despite your overwhelming urge to stay and help where you can.
"We have to leave. You know there is nothing we can do for them, He will leave none alive, and I won't have you-" he can't say it, he can't even entertain the notion of you coming to harm; his fingers tighten their grip, almost painful in their desperation.
He should have foreseen this, he should have gotten you to safety when he first had an inkling that his master finally knew where the Hidden City was.
"We have to go back, I need to go back, I can't leave-"
After a thousand years, his magic had kept your tiny wedding band of iris in full bloom, untouched by the passage of time, kept safe in an ornate gilded chest, made by his own fair hands. And it was sitting in your apartments on the other side of the city, where your kin doubtless waited for you to leave with them. The sentiment in your heart held you steadfast against his shaking and pleading.
"Love, we can't stay here-" he is interrupted by explosions overhead, as the enemy host draw closer.
"You don't understand-"
"Whatever it is, it doesn't matter, you're the only thing that matters. We have to go!" He never raises his voice to you, so you're a little dumbstruck when he growls at you.
"But we have to save them!" You stop in your tracks, feet rooted to the ground, indignant at the idea of abandoning your friends and neighbours to their doom.
"Amarië," his voice is suddenly so soft, it disquiets you, brings you back to the present. "Love, they're gone. There is no saving to be done."
Sauron is a stranger to remorse, to sorrow, but at the effect of his words, a pang of guilt sweeps through him when he tells you that in all the world, he is all you have now. He tries to ignore the warm thrill he feels in the pit of his stomach, that this great cataclysm has brought about the fate he always wanted for the two of you: just you and he, no one else to rob him of your attention.
You wanted to feel deeply all the grief and pain that one would expect at being told their life was over.
Instead you just felt numb, haunted by the consequences of his actions.
-
"I curse him." Your husband's eyes grow wide at your words, grasping your hands as if to quiet you, but you press on.
"I curse Melkor, Morgoth Bauglir, to roam this earth alone. To never know peace, to never know that which he so jealously craves."
You feel you're taking Morgoth's curse rather well, all things considered. Sauron had to beg you not to storm Angband yourself after he had told you of his master's new name for you, cursing you to a forsaken existence, sundering you from your husband in all but spirit.
You had fought your way back to him countless times, and he to you; you had both vowed to continue to do so, but the rage and grief had not lessened with time, stoked to a towering inferno of wrath that threatened to break you any time you were reminded of it.
And after the fall of Gondolin, your rage at the Enemy was insatiable.
So you had your revenge.
"Enemy. Tyrant. Now I name you again."
In the dead of night, flickering candlelight casting ominous shadows over your face, Sauron cannot help but admire you, crave you, as you corrupt his master's fate.
You slice open your hand, squeezing your palm over the parchment before you, watching as crimson splashes through the stark black lettering.
Amartherui.
"Help me." You look him in the eye, your simple plea making his chest ache; he has never said no to you, his sweet wife, but this is the first time he has been tempted.
"Amarië..." his soft sigh almost convinces you to abandon your plan, but the fury bubbling in your veins is too great.
"Beloved, will you help me or not? Your power would bring this curse to fruition, but if you will have no part in it, you should leave." You stand taller, drawing yourself up to match his gaze, impossible as that may seem.
"I have never asked you for anything. Please do this for me."
The crushing weight of the love in his hole of a heart moves his hand before he can stop himself. With gnawing doubt in his stomach, he wordlessly takes the knife from you, mixing his pitch black blood with your own on the page.
You smile, a weight lifting from your shoulders instantly, and you pull him down to kiss him hard, leaving a red streak on his neck.
"I name you, Morgoth, as my people have long titled you, Amartherui." His new name falls off your tongue like a dream, and you cannot help but smile, your wicked deed complete, as you set the parchment alight, the flames glowing a sickly grey-green as the candles flicker and the room darkens, long shadows growing where the light had tentatively reigned.
"Forever and a day, a lonely fate will be yours. You shall not know the word of a friend, the loyalty of a follower, or the touch of a lover. I curse you to wander the Seen and Unseen world alone, craving the connection you sought to sunder here."
In the back of your mind, there is some semblance of guilt. There is nothing good in the act you just performed, nothing virtuous or pure in your revenge; it's cold and calculated, vicious and spiteful.
Transcending the bounds of time and space, you can feel your curse has taken effect, something shifting in the air between you and your husband.
Sauron has never loved you more, and he shows you many times that night the depth of his feelings.
-
You watch as more refugees stagger into your haven with naught more than the clothes on their backs, waiting to help and heal and offer your comfort where you can. The war has left such a dreadful path of destruction in its wake; thousands of your kin are displaced as the host of the Valar battle their way to Angband, and your people had chosen where the river Sirion meets the sea as their secret haven.
It has been decades since the armies of Valinor first arrived on the shores of Middle Earth, and the end was drawing near, according to your husband, who was waiting with you in the safety of the havens and watching closely.
"I'll see you when I'm finished here," you whisper as you reach up to plant a kiss on your husband's lips. "It'll probably be late, don't wait up for me."
He gives you an affectionate smile; how could he not wait for you? Even if he did partake in sleep, he would not be able to rest without you at his side.
"I'll be up, return to me soon." He is reluctant to let you go, but your skills are in such dire need while the city is inundated with the sick and injured.
Before the War, it was uncommon for Elves to suffer such fates, being hardy in soul and body, but Morgoth's darkness had infiltrated much of the land and infected so many of your kin. Soldiers, innocent bystanders, there were hardly any who were unaffected, and fighting the darkness was a constant effort on your part, and the team of healers you had trained in the magics of your people.
"My lady, they are calling for you." The herald's voice shakes you from Sauron's gaze, and he huffs impatiently.
"I must go." You reluctantly begin to pull away, but he draws you back, pulling you close and wrapping you up in an embrace you could cling to for an age.
"I love you," he murmurs in your ear. "When this is all over, we shall establish the greatest kingdom this land has ever seen."
"If there is a land left." You try to remain hopeful but the news of the siege at Angband is never good, never hopeful, and you fear your home will never be free of Morgoth's influence.
"I am your home," your husband, your Mairon, reminds you, tracing your cheek softly, and you cannot help but return his radiant smile.
"I know, love, as I am yours." You press a soft kiss to his knuckles, taking the strength he offers, before departing to disperse your light where you can.
The darkness infects everything it touches, and it takes all of your energy and more to renew your broken and weary kin, who have travelled so far and fought so hard to reach the havens. Healing words and ancient spells woven into soft songs, settling over the city in a melodic shield, rejuvenating the minds and bodies of your people. You work late into the night, spreading the light where you can, easing the pitch black horror in the hearts of those who had seen the worst of Morgoth's endeavours.
The night is all-encompassing when you finally crawl into bed, nestling into Mairon's firm warmth, trying not to disturb him but feeling sweet relief when his hands trace your sides in greeting.
"I was going to come look for you," his deep voice rumbles in your chest as he presses himself against you.
"No need," you try to smile, but your voice cracks as his tenderness breaks your defences, and all the heartache of the day pours out of you like blood from a wound.
His heart wrenches. He has no business feeling such emotions as remorse, but once again you have him feeling in ways that he dislikes intensely.
"I'm sorry, my love." And he is. He is actually sorry for causing you pain, the rest of Middle Earth be damned.
You sigh and take his hand, holding it over your heart.
"I know, love." You ponder your next question, whether it is a good idea to ask, but you ask anyway.
"You cannot assist in the efforts against Him? I'm sure the Valar would be grateful for your help, might even look favourably upon you-"
He interrupts you with a sigh and a kiss to your neck.
"The Valar will never look upon me favourably, beloved. I could present them Melkor in chains and they would only bind me to him."
Of course, he has thought about begging clemency, thought about fleeing with you to the edges of the world, even thought of taking you back to his master. But in the end, it was more prudent to keep you safe, and to watch and wait for the triumphant side to reveal themselves. Better to beg forgiveness from the victor than choose the wrong side.
-
"Tell me I'm wrong." You dare him to speak against you, your voice shaking in anger as your fists clench.
"My love, I-"
"No, I don't want falsehoods, I don't want games or lies or deceit, just tell me. Did you go to Eönwë as you promised?"
And he definitely couldn't tell you that in order for his pardon to be granted, he would have to give you up, to avoid blackening your soul any further.
He'd rather suffer your eternal wrath than be sundered from you for even a moment.
"So you traded forgiveness for more lies." You clench your jaw, your head beginning to pound, the subtle throb becoming a stabbing pain in your temple.
"I did it for you."
"How? How is this for me?" You mock him, incensed now that he would deflect his deceit onto you.
He stands to comfort you but you rip your hands from his grasp before he can claim you.
"I do not know what to say. I thought I knew you, I thought you would do the right thing." You shake your head and laugh, your scorn stinging him as if it were a poisoned blade.
"Love, please-"
"No! No more lies. I've had it with trickery and deception, I want out." You whirl around to face him. "Shadow of Morgoth, they call you. You gather his armies to you once more, you refired his crown! So is that what you want? Do you want to be his second coming?"
In all honesty, no. His master's plans were beneath him; Morgoth wanted to break the world, Sauron wanted to reshape it, to balance and perfect it, by any means necessary.
"Please, listen to me, I need you by my side, now more than ever." He clutches your hands, heart pounding, looking deeply into your eyes, willing you to fall for his pretty words once more.
"You didn't answer me." Tears begin to prick your eyes, but you refuse to let them fall in front of him, stepping back to take a deep breath, to steady your nerves to face the man you thought you loved.
"I don't need to. Love, you will join me." His desperation becomes honeyed, dripping with the devotion you so crave from him.
"Don't. Don't do that." You whisper, as he stalks toward you slowly, his deception burning a hole in your heart that you're sure will never be filled.
"Don't you want to be with me? For all eternity, that is what we always said." He circles you, hands on your shoulders, in your hair, overwhelming you with his lover's touch, just a mite too rough.
"Not if this is your plan. I didn't marry Morgoth, I married Mairon." Sauron, your mind reminds you, and for a second you feel a wave of nausea overwhelm you.
His face twists and he pulls away.
"That is not my name." He growls, an ugly grimace taking over his lovely features.
"I've told you before, don't look inside my head!" You retort, his presence in your mind suddenly overwhelmingly obvious.
You throw him out of your mind, slamming the door shut, refusing him access to that which would be so freely given if he deserved it.
The tic in his jaw is back with a vengeance and his eyes are ablaze with a fury the like of which you have never seen.
"Who do you think you are?" He hisses, venom in every word; you don't recognise him, cold terror in your heart at the sudden switch, as if someone had doused the candle burning for you in his heart with oil, engulfing him with wildfire.
"I chose you, of all your people, as my wife; I could have had anyone, but I chose you. AulĂ«âs greatest smith, Melkor's most trusted lieutenant, lord of all the dark things that creep and crawl in this world. And who are you? My beloved wife." His tone is like poison in your veins, burning and spitting fire in your heart.
Who are you? He's right; who the hell do you think you are?
"I know exactly who I am. I'm the woman who leaves you."
You shall not be forsaken this time, not that doing the forsaking feels any sweeter. It wrenches every fibre of your being, your heart pounding in your chest, but you make it to the door of his chambers, hand on the doorknob, before he breaks from his stunned daze, crosses the room and clasps his hand over yours on the cool metal.
"And where will you go? Your people are scattered and displaced, and who would take you in if they knew?" His sweetly honeyed words still bite at your heart, settling in the pit of your stomach.
"I cannot stay here, not now that I know exactly what you are." You look up at him, holding his gaze, somehow fighting the urge to scratch and claw and bite your way free like a feral animal, suddenly overwhelmed with the sense that you should run as hard and fast as you can.
His eyes betray nothing, his lips curving into a condescending smirk, as he runs a finger down your cheek, gathering the tears you'd fought not to shed. He examines them as if he'd never seen their like, as if they were precious stones from the depths of the earth, mined just for him; he licks his fingers clean, turning his attention back to you, trembling under him as he cages you against the door.
"Please... please let me go." The look in his eye says begging will be useless, but you try anyway.
"You are my Queen. You're free to do as you please." He replies, voice smooth, with a pretty smirk and that predatory glint in his eye that would usually thrill you so, that still sends hot arousal pooling between your thighs, mixed with icy cold terror.
"It would please me to leave," you try to appeal to him, softening your voice, lowering your gaze.
"I'm sure it would..." he utters breathlessly as he takes you in, leaning over you, watching the artery in your throat jump in time to his own racing heartbeat.
"Mairon... please..." His lips are on yours before you can finish your plea, his hands tangled in your hair.
He pushes his thigh between your legs, letting you grind yourself against him instinctively, and he groans, deep and low in his chest.
"Even now, your body betrays you, my love."
You sigh against him, fingers raking his hair roughly, letting him caress your neck, your waist, pulling you impossibly closer as he tries to expose you to his gaze. His clever fingers usually make light work of the laces of your corset, but his impatience defeats him, and he pulls a dagger from the lining of his robes, slicing cleanly through the fabric.
"That was my favourite," you admonish him, still angry with him; even as he takes you apart with his fingers and his tongue, you can't forget his plans, and you certainly can't ignore his gift to you, sitting by the window in all their glory.
Twin crowns, wrought in black iron, twisted and wicked, emanating a dark power that made you nauseous; ready for the heads of Middle Earth's new King and Queen. When you'd seen them, your blood ran cold, as you realised that once again, you'd been victim to Sauronâs deception.
"You will have a thousand more, dearest wife, whatever your heart desires," he promises breathlessly as he shucks off your dress, sliding it down your body, worshipping you with the lightest touch, soft kisses peppering your skin as he disrobes you. He falls to his knees, his head in line with your mound. He looks up at you, locking his gaze with yours, and delves into your folds with his tongue, seeking your pleasure.
You gasp, throwing your head back, as he spreads your legs to access your entrance, splitting you open with two fingers, still drawing every moan and whimper from your throat as he circles your clit, licking long strokes, tiny laps at your skin, letting you ride his face in your lustful haze. You grip his hair more roughly than you normally would, your wrath seeping into your lust, until you can't detect the distinction between the two.
He takes one of your legs and places it on his shoulder, letting you rest against him, both of you totally at the other's mercy. Such trust, such devotion, would you throw that away? Would you truly abandon him?
He worships at your altar, an acolyte to your pleasure, drawing unearthly sounds from deep within you, willing you to just stay and be his.
Your mind is racing as tendrils of his power cling to your lips, fighting for entrance to quiet your thoughts, and replace them with his sweet music. Wouldn't it just be easier? To let the darkness in?
You might as well, you muse in the back of your head, thoughts displaced by pleasure as the darkness feasts upon you.
He's solely focused on you; there is nowhere he would rather be in all of Arda. The unblemished shores of Valinor, the white trees that used to light the world, he can finally understand why his master was so hellbent on their destruction. For there is no beauty that should merit a comparison to you, and he would raze these lands to the ground to prove it.
You're drawing close, he realises, and briefly wonders whether to allow you your release on his lips.
You feel him pull away and moan, a tiny pitiful sound that makes him chuckle; of course you need him, of course you can't be without him, even in anger. Victory is nigh, and he pulls himself out of his robes to claim you once again.
He pushes you back, your name on the tip of his tongue, as he takes you in, breathes your air.
"You're mine," he growls, nuzzling your neck to better scent you. "Say it, say you'll always be mine."
"I will," you murmur softly, tears pricking your eyes as you hold him close.
"If you were to leave me," he moans against your heated skin, stroking his cock against your thigh, "there would be no rest for any bird, beast, or being in this land, no sleep, no sustenance, these lands would burn until you were returned to me."
He claims you in one thrust, filling you so completely, so sweetly, that you see stars, your breath stolen from your lungs as if it were the first time you'd ever laid eyes on him.
Your heart wrenches, pulling towards his, despite your entire being screaming at you.
You kiss him harder, your mind quietened as he bites your lip, droplets of blood wetting his tongue, quickening his insatiable need to be inside you in every way that is possible; mind, body, soul, all inextricably entwined.
The tears in your eyes threaten to fall, but you blink them back as he rocks into you, the chorus of your lovemaking drowning out all other notions. He plays you so well, a master in the art of drawing sweet melody from your lips; the harmony you both create together is unmatched to his ears, a Maia who helped sing the world into being.
A chorus of "mine" and "please" fill the air, and you're unsure whose voice is the louder, who is more desperate in their claiming of the other.
You feel him stiffen against you, his melody reaching a crescendo before yours, as he fills you with his pleasure, low groans in your ear bringing you to your peak as well. He wrings every last moan out of you, drawing out the coda of your song until there are no more notes to be played, no more pleasure to be taken.
Sweat-slicked and exhausted, you hold each other close, entwined so perfectly. You let him carry you to his bed, laying you down reverently, climbing in beside you and nestling you close, arms wrapping you tightly, refusing to let you move from his grasp.
You'd usually find such comfort in his embrace, but tonight there is an itch under your skin that his touch only amplifies, making you fight not to squirm beside him.
You cannot sleep for fear of letting him inside your head again, so when a knock at the door comes, you welcome it.
He sighs, long and loud in your ear, as evidence of his displeasure.
"I'll be back, love, there are matters I must attend to."
"Of course," you smile, fighting to make it meet your eyes.
He regards you carefully, brow furrowed.
"Do not fear, my love," he says softly as he leans down to kiss you once more. "I won't be long."
As he departs, he gives you one final look of longing, which you hasten to return with all the eagerness you can muster.
The door clicks shut, your expression falls, and you immediately disentangle yourself from the sheets,
Finding obscene amounts of your clothing and jewellery, and books beyond measure in his room was no surprise. He must have been preparing for this for years, if not longer.
Now that Morgoth was gone, the next phase of his plan could move forward, and that involved you, his Queen, taking up her rightful residence.
You dress as quickly as you're able, taking only what you can carry, and go to leave. But you notice a small ornate chest you thought you'd lost when Gondolin fell, sitting on the dresser by his bed as if it had always belonged there.
You feel as if you've been stabbed, a gut-wrenching heartache overwhelming you as you can do nothing but stand and stare.
He went back for it. He kept it all this time.
Your feet move of their own accord, and before you can blink, you've opened the chest, staring at the impossible artefact of your love for each other.
Unfurled purple petals, revealing a stark white centre, the woven band appearing as fresh as it did on the day he married you.
You hold it up, comparing it to the ring you currently wear. He really had somehow captured its likeness in a jewel, deep purple revealing a bright light in its centre, framed by ornate silver details.
You cannot bring yourself to slip it on, after all that has happened, his lies and broken promises, but you are loath to leave it.
Movement outside his chambers sends a shiver of panic through you, and you quickly move to hide behind the door. The subsequent banging has you quaking but you stand your ground, waiting for whomever it is to leave.
The door abruptly swings open, and you hear two gravelly voices discussing... you?
"Mistress?" The first call is softer, but their annoyance quickly becomes apparent as the other chimes in.
"Where is she then? They said to fetch her, but I'm not traipsing all over to find some she-Elf-"
"He won't even notice, Adar says he's too caught up in all his planning and his speeches, who cares about one missing Elf?"
"He wants them at least, over there. He'll have your head if we forget-"
"Why my head? You're the one he told-"
"Shut it and take 'em, careful now, there's magic in it still..."
Their voices fade as they shuffle back the way they came. As the door slams shut again, you realise that your husband already has an army of orcs at his disposal, and you reconsider what you're about to do, but only briefly.
Escaping the fortress is more of a task than you thought, requiring all the skills of subterfuge and swordplay that your husband has ever taught you; which is no small feat, considering the centuries you've had to learn.
Quietly slipping through the fortress mostly unnoticed, leaving the odd corpse in your wake as your husband's servants cross your path, unfortunately for them.
Thankfully the halls are mostly deserted, and you hear a clamour coming from deeper within, but you try to pay it no mind, focusing on your exit and nothing more.
It is only when you finally see daylight, pushing open the great black doors to the fortress, that you can breathe a sigh of relief. If you can just get a headstart, perhaps you'll be able to outrun him.
-
It is in the middle of his speech, appealing to his army for their continued support, that Sauron notices you are absent.
He'd sent for you when his moment of victory seemed nigh at hand, and had assumed you were readying yourself for your ascent, but now that he had persuaded Adar and his children to his cause, the sight of your face was all he wanted to see.
As he knelt before Adar, awaiting his rightful crown, he searched for you in his mind's eye. He did not expect to find you outside the black gates, breathing a sigh of relief in the watery sunlight.
A surge of rage overtook him as he clenched his jaw, settling on his knees. The mere thought of your abandonment had always made his heart twist and shatter, and at that moment, he had no heart. Just a void where it used to be.
Distracted by your torment, he barely noticed the first blow, as Adar struck him again and again with the crown that was meant to define your future together.
As he lay in a pool of thick black blood, his last thought was of you; how could you betray him? And thank the Valar you did.
-
A great blast of freezing cold air knocks you off your feet, and for a second you thought you heard his voice on the wind. It's all you can do to just lie there, covered in frost and shaking, trying to assess if you're at least physically intact, your emotional state another matter entirely.
Clutching your head as blood trickles down your face, you shakily get to your feet. It is as if someone has emptied the heavens of all its snow where before there was nothing but arid plains. The air is suddenly glacial, the ground frozen and cracking underfoot.
It is as you contemplate your frozen breath in the air, that you realise you can't feel him. A vacuum in your mind, a void in your heart that you haven't experienced in more than a thousand years, and you can barely recognise that it is his absence that has left such a hole.
You thought you might feel free when you were rid of him, but all you feel is empty, yearning for a presence that has haunted you for millennia.

Thinking about the gay Mormon kid I met in middle school and how all the other Mormons were convinced he was gay-faking and actually straight
#mormon children are so funny they be like ''if someone hears me say fuck i could be disowned and excommunicated. i support u being gay tho#i'll always support you the way you are'' <- actual unironic convos i had with my mormon friend in 5th grade#like days apart first she was like i can never swear and then when i came out to my class as bi#she was the Nicest straight person about it like of course the other girls who were questioning or already knew were supportive#straight kids had a more diverse opinion on it lol but this mormon girl got me she was so good#definitely part of my gay awakening bc i spent months being like ''i cant be bi bc if i was i would have a crush on Her. but i dont''#''i only feel this way bc she has beautiful red hair and freckles which i adore and she is super sweet to me. thats not gay''#and this went on for 3 months and then i had a wet dream about a different girl and i was like OH. well the evidence is growing#wow these tags have nothing to do with this gay mormon kid lololol nothing much to say about him#i didnt know him very well tbh like we spoke a little bit and he did come out to me but most of what i learned about him was rumors#and def i feel like he got the typical gay kid treatment of being ostracized lied about and picked on#idk why you would choose to subject urself to that if u arent ssa like it is not easy to be out in this area#its maybe not Dangerous bc more people are coming out every year but its certainly still viewed as a severe sin#its not seen as a neutral thing by mosr churches although several churches have sprung up that specifically welcome and accept lgbt people#thats a super interesting divide to me bc i Still meet christians who cant even hear about gay people without talking#about how sad gayness is and how gay souls are in danger and the last time i ever visited a church the sermon was homophobic#yet the city decorates for pride every year and even certain churches will decorate for it#the culture is certainly changing lolol but as long as there are ''gay love is sodomy'' christians around here#then its always going to be a struggle for lgb youth bc they are straight up hostile
