"Th-thank you," Russell said, after he gave himself a short moment take in what the man was saying, "I, I ap-appreciate that."
It was a good point. The people who did care, who would stay, wouldn't mind it so much.
"That's, that's um, that's a, a real good point," Russell said, "Th-thank you. I, I think that, that I, I needed to hear that."
For the moment, the usual thought that there were people out there that could make him wish he could die didn't cross his mind. It would most likely come back later to knock on the inside of his skull, but for now, it remained quiet.
Russell then stood up fully. Now that the cut was completely gone again, he could at least prepare food and drinks safely. He would wash his hands just to get rid of any traces of blood of course, but now he wouldn't actively bleed on anything.
"Heh, I, I guess that's, that's true. I, I can, I can add that to, to my, my resume," Russell joked.
Hopefully that sounded.
"Well, our, our special cake of, of the day is, is peach cla-clafoutis," Russell then said, "And, and our, our drink of, of the day is, is our, our salted, salted caramel iced, iced latte. Do, do those, those sound good, good to you?"
While he was aware that the Majesty had said to surprise him, sometimes a surprise wasn't welcomed, especially for those who didn't like caffeine (or couldn't have it), or a particular flavour of the day.
Gaius smiled. “You don’t need to apologize for existing, Russell.” He said softly. “What I saw wasn’t something shameful—it was just a part of you. And I happen to think people are more than the strangest thing they can do.”
He stepped back just enough to give Russell space, but his eyes stayed fixed on him, as if making sure the other man truly heard the words. “I know what it’s like to live under other people’s eyes, wondering what they’ll make of you if they see too much.” Gaius continued. “But here’s the truth—if you keep running somewhere else every time it happens, you’ll never find out who’d accept it without fear.”
Then, his tone shifted into something lighter, more teasing, the smirk tugging at his lips returning. “And yes, you’ve given me a new experience. Not many people can say they’ve impressed a Roman emperor with a party trick involving time and blood.”
He glanced toward the rest of the shop, then back at Russell. “As for what you can get me… surprise me. I’ve learned to trust your taste. And... no rewinding necessary.”

Russell briefly wondered if he should bring up why he didn't really drink, but he figured it would be best for another day. Luis had been through enough and they also didn't know each other that well just yet, despite being on friendly terms.
"Once I tell him about you, I'm very certain he will," Leofric said, "In fact, I wouldn't be all that surprised if he texts or calls you first in the near future."
Russell gave a kind smile to Luis on hearing that.
"You're, you're welcome, Luis," Russell said, "And, th-thank you. I, I will. Have a, have a good, a good evening. Leofric will, will keep, keep you safe. It, it was good to, to meet you too."
Russell seemed to be very confident about that. Leofric nodded in agreement; he would indeed keep Luis safe if he needed to.
"It won't, don't worry about that," Leofric said. He made sure to keep at a reasonable pace as they made their way to the car, not wanting to push Luis too hard. When they got to it, Leofric politely opened the passenger seat for the vampire.
The interior had some comfortable leather seats and it was practically pristine with how clean Leofric kept it.
"Feel free to put the radio onto anything you want," Leofric said, "I don't think it will be too out of my way. We shall see when we get there."
But then he looked thoughtful at that last statement, tilting his head to the side briefly, much like a dog briefly, before placing the doctor's bag into the backseat, getting into the car and moving the seatbelt into place.
It seemed that he had been thinking of asking something, but perhaps had decided to save it for another time. He didn't need to make the car journey awkward by asking if Luis had been trying to hit on him then and there.
He would save that for later.
"Would you like the heating on at all?" Leofric asked, as he got the car started up, "Bill usually appreciates it when he's driving with me."
Luis was surprised to hear that both of them abstained from alcohol - most immortal beings he'd met in his time relished any kind of vice to break up the monotony of existing without end. He respected it of course, almost envious in a way to have such restraint that he absolutely did not possess.
“Great! It's settled, then. We can all meet there and have some drinks together, as long as your friend um ... actually does want to meet me.” He suggested, followed by a sheepish chuckle. “Until next time. And thank you, again. I know I keep saying it, but I mean it! Get home safely, Russell. It was a pleasure meeting you, despite the ... circumstances.”
Despite his vampiric perma-chill, he felt a warmth bloom in his chest from having met some good folk for a change. There was often an underlying competitiveness among vampires or other supernaturals that made it difficult to trust each other, but he felt like he could finally perhaps belong in a social circle.
Luis turned to look up at Leofric, suddenly oddly nervous that they were now alone. He offered an awkward smile, followed by a singular nod. “Yeah, I'm ready. Thank you ... I don't think it's too far, I hope it's not going to put you out of your way though ... ” He said, without any idea of where he actually was at the moment. Either way, he was going to try and prolong the journey as much as possible to savour every moment in Leofric's company.
Though he was a little unsteady on his feet and still not fully recovered from the injury, Luis was able to make his way slowly towards the car, being careful not to move too quickly and aggravate the wound. “ ... Of course, if it is really out of your way, you're welcome to stay over, if you want to.”

🌿 Demeter but especially because of our thread (alabonshay)
"Heh, that, that sounds like, like a fit, a fitting mood," Russell says, "And, and doing other things also, also keeps my, my own anx-anxieties aw-away."
For a time at least.
"And, and it's, it's productive I, I guess."

⚡️ WHICH GREEK GOD ARE YOU?- ASKBOX MEME ⚡️ Send an emoji to reveal which god you think their muse is channelling - for ✨science✨ Open to all muses. IC or OOC answers welcome. Chaos is encouraged.
🧨 Ares - You woke up and chose violence. Everything is a fight and you’re winning it.
🌊 Poseidon - Big feelings, big storms, possibly yelling at a seagull. You’re dramatic and wet.
🍷 Dionysus - You’re in your party era. May contain unhinged poetry, cult vibes, and wine.
🔥 Hades - Emotionally repressed, fashionably dressed, and you probably adopted a ghost.
🌕 Artemis - You could disappear into the woods for six weeks and never text anyone.
💨 Hermes - You’re fast, flirty, and probably running 12 side quests at once. Messenger of chaos with a silver tongue and sticky fingers.
🎭 Apollo - Music, sunlight, and a god complex. You’re brilliant and kind of annoying about it.
🌿 Demeter - You’re baking at 2AM because no one eats enough and you worry too much.
🦉 Athena - Absolutely done with everyone’s stupidity. You carry the whole group project.
💋 Aphrodite - Obsessed with love, chaos, and your own reflection. Might have 7 situationships.
⚖️ Themis - You are the moral compass. Unfortunately, no one listens to you.
🌩️ Zeus - An agent of chaos with way too many exes and bad decisions.
🐍 Persephone - You look soft, but you will end lives. Queen of duality.
🔮 Hecate - Mysterious and mildly cursed. You know things. People are afraid to ask how.
🍎 Eris - If you weren’t invited, you’re showing up anyway with a grenade and opinions.
🎨 Hephaestus - You made something that probably shouldn’t be alive. Oops.
🕊️ Hera - Constantly tired of everyone's nonsense but still the most put together.
🛡️ Nike - You would fight a god with a spork and win out of spite. Victory is yours.
🕯️ Hypnos - Always tired. Big “let me nap or I will haunt you” energy.

Gracie's visit yesterday had been lovely. It had been wonderful to reunite with her and get to play some games, just like old times.
But it had left him feeling rather pensive. During an evening jog, on seeing a family of swans with their cygnets in the large park pond, Russell had found himself stopping to watch them.
He had then gotten his wallet out, where a comforting picture sat, and then taken the photo out. A small smile crept across Russell's lips on looking at it.
It was a photo of a photo really. It was an old one that had been taken with a phone and then uploaded to Martin's social media page. Russell had printed it out for himself to have on hand.
It was from that camping trip around twenty years ago now. One of Russell's favourite Summer memories. He had been around nine or ten. In that photo, the sun was setting, and he and Lewis were sitting with strawberry and marshmallow skewers. Russell had accidentally gotten a dab of melted marshmallow on the end of his nose, and he and Lewis had been sitting there laughing about it when Martin had taken the picture.
"I'm, I'm, I'm gonna do, I'm gonna do, do a lot better for, for Gracie, Lewis," Russell said, "I, I promise."

"Well, I, I guess not," Russell said.
It would probably be best to move on from that, mainly because it wasn't healthy to dwell on it, and he didn't Koa to be wondering about why he had reacted that way.
Besides, she didn't need to feel bad because he was reminded of things that weren't her fault and had happened long in the past.
"Heh, I'll, I'll try not. I, I worry ab-about a, a lotta things," Russell said, hoping that sounded funny rather than sad. A joke at his own expense usually worked to lighten the mood again, "Th-thank you, that's, that's very kind of, of you to, to say. I, I just try to, try to be, try to be a, a decent man as, as much as possible."
It was a pretty low bar after all.
"I'm, I'm glad your, your homeland is, is safe from, from people you, you wouldn't want to, to go in there," Russell said, "Hmm... m-maybe I, I could take the, the price off a, a little, seeing as, as you, you shared some, some info? Maybe I, I could take, take off ten dollars so, so you only need to, to find thirt-thirteen of, of these notes instead."
Russell shook his head.
"No you, you don't need to, to apologise. When, when you, you love somewhere or, or something, sometimes you just get, get that urge to, to talk about it," Russell said, "And, and please don't, don't rush. I'll, I'll keep hold of a, a copy for, for you and, and a console so, so it'll be there for, for you no, no matter how, how much time you need. I'll even put, put a sticker with, with your names on, on them so we, we know they're, they're for you."
"But you couldn't have known that," Koa giggled lightly, finding it sweet that he seemed so worried about this, since she had no idea what triggered this in him. Yet, it still seemed to bother him somehow.
"So don't worry about it." Even though Koa didn't really understand why this bothered him so much, she wanted to at least try to ease his uncertainty about the situation. At least as best as she could. Koa herself was someone who usually expressed her thoughts freely and didn't keep secrets about her emotions. But she also didn't wanted anyone to feel bad or uncomfortable because of her and her personality.
Then she grinned broadly at him again. "Like I said, you're nice, and with nice people, I don't need to have any secrets," she giggled again. "I mean, it's not like you can just march into my homeland, because no stranger who doesn't belong there can just walk through the barrier…" she babbled before clapping her hands over her mouth.
"Sorry," she mumbled, her voice muffled by her hands. "Now I've told you something, even though I haven't collected enough green paper to buy the game yet…"
Yes, Koa took their deal more than seriously. But at the same time, she was also a big chatterbox who found it difficult to keep quiet.
She dropped her hands to her side once more and started running quickly in place. "I'll go right ahead and collect the green paper! I'll hurry, I promise!" Koa promised frantically.

PSA // I AM A LOW-MAINTENANCE RP PARTNER
what exactly does a low-maintenance rp partner mean? well… it means that I will never rush you for a reply ( ic or ooc ), meme or ask answer, or pretty much anything! take all the time you need, it really doesn’t matter to me. this isn’t a race, this is something that is done for fun! so, don’t feel obligated to do something or even be online, if you don’t want to. it doesn’t matter how long or fast it takes you to respond to me, if you’re my person, you’re my person. and if you go on hiatus, i’ll stick with you through it so when you come back it’s like nothing ever happened. never feel obligated to explain to me why it takes so long, i get it we all have other things we’re doing. some of us work full-time, some of us are in school full-time, some of us run multiple blogs and some of us just can’t find the will or motivation to write for a couple days on end… I never want you to feel pressured to interact/talk/associate with me. so, do what you need for yourself and just know i’ll be here in the background rooting for you!

"That's good, good to hear," Russell said, with a smile of his own.
At least it seemed the joke had gone down well, if that chuckle was anything to go by.
"That's, that's also good. I uh, I didn't want to, to be, be in-insulting or, or anything with, um, you know a, a little joke," Russell said. Especially with the fact it was meant to be at his own expense about his choice of attire, "Th-thank you. I, I uh, I app-appreciate that. Oh, I'm, I'm glad to hear that, and that it, it was only slightly. I, I used to get lost all, all the time when, when I first moved here."
But then it was probably best to head to the park. It was what they had met for after all.
"But I, I at least know where, where the park is, shall, shall we, shall we go if, if you're ready?"
Ed grinned. "My mornings been fine, thanks. Glad to hear you're doing good."
He chuckled. "I guess you kinda do," he agreed. Sort of, anyway. There was a big difference both legally where service and emotional support animals were allowed, and in terms of what they did. Though Ed assumed that the comment was meant to be funny rather than uninformed.
Ed's dog, Colossus, helped with allergy detection, anxiety management, and mobility aid on Ed's worst days.
"No worries, you're fine," Ed replied smoothly. "I do like the shirt, by the way. It's funny. And my journey wasn't too bad. Only got slightly lost. I hope yours was okay too?"

@sovereignofthefrenchpeople from here
Russell had definitely not seen this man around before. He was certain he would recognised the outfit, and the way he spoke. Very formal.
"Th-thank you," Russell said, in response to the polite greeting. He briefly wondered what such a distinguished seeming gentleman was doing here. But that made sense, "Oh, that's, that's real fair, sir. Sometimes the, the rain can, can surprise us like, like that. I, I still, I still hope you enjoy your time here. I'm, I'm sorry, my, my mouth doesn't, doesn't always work."
But then he took a moment to listen to the question. The answer of what a hidden gem was could be subject, depending on person to person.
"Well," Russell started, "It's, it's an, an expression to, to um, to mean something, something that's, that's good but, but despite that, not, not many people know ab-about it. So, so we focus on, on games that, that get made by, by smaller companies or, or teams that, that might not get, get as, as much attention on them."
Russell then picked up a physical Switch copy of Death's Door so the stranger could see for himself.
"Like, like this one for, for instance. It, it was made by, by just two, two people and, and, and not as, as known as, as some of the, the bigger ad-adventure titles out, out there, but it, it's one that, that does deserve some, some more at-attention for, for the skill and, and the passion that, that went into, into making it."
But then Russell's cheeks turned a bit pink.
"Sor-sorry, I, I rambled a, a bit much there. Sometimes I, I get a, a bit into it when, when talk-talking ab-about games. And I uh, I didn't even, even intro-introduce myself. I'm, I'm Russell."
